Former NASA GISS climate scientist tells new NASA head to stop funding “corrupt, carpet-baggers”

A new incendiary blog by Dr. Duane Thresher  and Dr. Claudia Kubatzki unleashes on NASA Goddard Institute (one of the two main motherlodes of climate activism), calling for them to be defunded because they are “ignoble”, with “herds of do-gooders”, and “NASA GISS is a monument to bad science that truly should be torn down. Take the money and buy a rocket.”

They are a husband and wife team, both producing peer-reviewed climate papers. He worked at NASA GISS for seven years. Since they came out as skeptics in California, they’ve had to move house.  Thanks to Marc Morano for the tip.

His latest post calls on the new NASA head, appointed by Trump, to just turn off the tap, cut the cash:

Bridenstine, Climate Scientists Are Not Noble, Stop Paying Them

Everyone assumes climate scientists are noble. Fighting to save the planet. What nonsense. Not even close.

They write about a wave of new money into climate science and the decay of the field:

Enter opportunists, carpetbaggers, the corrupt, the ignoble.

What to do?  Stop paying climate scientists. The good ones are so into their science they will work for food, maybe less, maybe even pay to do it. French President Macron has invited the rest to move to France so they will be fine.

Start with defunding NASA GISS where this whole global warming nonsense started. It was started by James Hansen, formerly head of NASA GISS and considered the father of global warming. It was continued by Gavin Schmidt, current head of NASA GISS, anointed by Hansen, and leading climate change warrior scientist/spokesperson.

Thresher is an MIT graduate in electrical engineering, and went on to study Atmospheric Science (climate modeling), has done Antarctic research, got a PhD from Columbia and worked for James Hansen and Gavin Schmidt at NASA GISS. His wife Kubatzki, is a meteorologist, climate modeler, pollen proxy analyst and a a native German. She’s worked at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Germany.

Being a whistleblower is always risky:

If you think neo-Nazis are bad, try being a global warming skeptic in the Bay Area of California, where we had to move from for our own safety.

Gavin Schmidt “couldn’t make it” in maths so he became a climate scientist

Thresher is scathing of the quality of the talent that flowed in to the field with the sudden influx of money:

And then there are the not qualified who become climate scientists. When the science bureaucrats (if you can’t do real science be a science bureaucrat) decided global warming was the next big thing, there was a huge influx of money, which meant a huge influx of unqualified into climate science since there just weren’t enough qualified and the money HAD to be used. Enter opportunists, carpetbaggers, the corrupt, the ignoble. Physicists and mathematicians who couldn’t make it in their own fields, like James Hansen and Gavin Schmidt (who actually told me one reason he became a climate scientist was because he couldn’t make it in his degree field of mathematics). People who just wanted instant success as fake heroes or showmen rather than doing years of hard slow obscure real science.

This influx into climate science of unqualified [people] also meant they threw out good scientific practices, like not pretending climate models can actually predict climate when they were just invented to study it by experimentation.

Given the save-the-planet nature of the field, the unqualified included herds of do-gooders, particularly women. (Note: Dr. Claudia Kubatzki agrees with this assessment.) They love committees. Protection by the herd. Power without sticking your neck out.

NASA GISS has got nothing to do with space:

[NASA GISS is] a small group over a restaurant (Tom’s Restaurant from the TV comedy Seinfeld!) in New York City, nowhere near any other major NASA facility. Just the dedicated data link to the nearest NASA facility, GSFC in Maryland, is a big expense. GISS is the Goddard Institute for SPACE Studies. If you don’t need a rocket to get to it, it’s not space.

He could have pointed out the irony that NASA GISS uses land based thermometers and ignores the satellites.

No tip-toeing-about on the about page. There are “huge weaknesses” in both models and proxies

We are the most qualified real climatologists to ever come out as global warming skeptics (including even more than Dr. Richard Lindzen and Dr. Judith Curry, although we acknowledge their revolutionary courage). Unlike most scientists counted in the scientific consensus on global warming we are real climate scientists. Our graduate careers included numerous courses in climate and we have done extensive research in climate, including climate modeling and climate proxies (past climates). Doing both is unusual. Not only have we actually used and run climate models but we have actually programmed them and so fully understand their (huge) weaknesses. Unlike many we don’t just ignorantly use the climate proxy data produced by others but we have taken courses and done research on climate proxies and so fully understand their (huge) weaknesses.

Six reasons skeptics will not get published

Thresher and Kubatzki argue that publication and funding bias will produce a “consensus”.

Climate model/proxy research that does not show global warming will not get published or funded because of:

  • Non-publication of negative results (no global warming found)
  • Fearful self-censorship
  • Conflict of interest (a need to get results, regardless of validity, that further careers)
  • Corrupt and/or unqualified scientists
  • Censorship by consensus scientists in a fundamentally-flawed peer review process
  • Corruption of climate science overall (e.g., see Corrupt German Climate Science)

Scientific revolutions are called revolutions because before a wrong theory was overthrown there was a scientific consensus that it was right.

I believe that klimate science is an offshoot of meteorology and environmentalism.

I also have a suspicion that qualified meteorologists probably don’t like being linked to the mess that is CAGW.

Having scanned some of the coursework associated with Climate Science degrees I came away with the distinct impression of a science lite course.

Maths, physics and chemistry just don’t get the attention they deserve and it shows in that ideas from a hundred years ago, Arrhenius and CO2 for example, are trotted out as the backing for the scam.

I am amazed at the silence of real scientists who are forced to watch the farce of politically inspired CAGW forced onto their fellow citizens.

Locally we lost a thousand jobs when the Kurri aluminium smelter was closed down and now face imminent loss of the plant at Tomato. Because of climate change?

As a meteorologist, it is refreshing to have someone that has a similar viewpoint as mine. Climate science is based too much on the results of speculative mathematical models which we are taught in college that they are a cancer to forecasting without verifying there results because we don’t know the full functionality of the Earth’s climate system and the inherent problems associated with these models. A lot of us meteorologists in the U.S. disagree with CAGW theory. Even, two of my college professors are skeptics. I have looked up some of the CAGW pro-scientists and they have a Bachelor’s degree in geography major before they went into climate science for their post-grad degrees. What a joke! Geography degrees don’t give you the fundamental proper training in math (calculus & differential equations), physics, chemistry, and atmospheric dynamics that ones needs to understand weather and the Earth’s climate system. In fact, the first two years of a meteorologist’s coursework is similar to an engineer’s early coursework. My math and physics classes in college had mostly engineer and meteorologist majors in them. Basically, as you said, the “radiant greenhouse effect” is based on debunked physics from Victorian-age scientists that predated the laws of thermodynamics and quantum physics which both firmly debunks CAGW theory. I try to inform people in the U.S. on this, but the funny thing is that “oh” you’re a meteorologist and not a climatologist. I laugh at them, because, like you said, they don’t know what coursework a meteorologist has to take to get our degree and probably most of them couldn’t complete that coursework to obtain the degree. Thank you for your efforts in exposing these frauds and keep up the good work.

Climate science (cough, cough) is another aspect of the long journey of Cultural Marxism towards Socialism. It started in the 60s, infesting our education system and continues to spread into all aspects of life in order to achieve the final solution.

Those emerging from our education system over the last 40 years have never been taught the true impact of Socialism. Only those whose parents experienced it in the war years and taught their children have an idea of what it involves.

Fighting the ‘warming worriers’ is just another campaign against Socialism.

      3%?

I recall that Jo explained that “paper” with its 97% to us at the time, and my recollection was that the real applicable number for the question ” is global warming mostly man made” was 32.6%..

Somehow that bunch of psychos, (behavioral scientists as I remember, not climate scientists), were able to massage that 32.6% all the way up to 97%. Wonderful stuff!

Time to shout this from the rooftops!

Long ago the 97% figure of scientists agree about AGW. Has any survey been taken between then and now?

      20

      • #

No one with $10k for a survey really wants to know the answer to that, but the closest thing was done by Strengers et al 2015 and shows that only 43% of climate scientists agree with the pure IPCC 95% certainty that more than half of the warming recently was due to man-made emissions.

          From your 2015 article:

“To venture a guess I would say that among skeptics the dominant hypothesis is that some factor to do with the Sun is far more important than man-made CO2. To the end that skeptics need an alternate hypothesis”

One only ‘needs’ some alternate hypothesis if there is some valid hypothesis!
This is lacking. All the Climate Clowns is political nonsense to try frighten the masses\peons\pheasants into obeying the self appointed betters.
That nonsense needs be destroyed so that some thinking folk can start to try to understand something\anything of how this Earth’s atmosphere\oceans may possibly work! Consider what the academic meteorologists\climatologists\Clowns claim! There is absolutely no science in these claims; only fraud!

Meteorologists claim this planet has some global average temperature that is increasing because of something man-made (anthropogenic). This is false and the basis of the SCAM. Some average of temperature cannot be a temperature by definition of the ‘word’ temperature itself. Temperature is, and only is, the value measurement of the sensible heat of a fixed mass with fixed specific heat, nothing else but a measurement. The average of two measurements is never itself a measurement. A measurement can by definition can have no causative effect!
These very same meteorological Clowns claim that temperature or differential temperature causes the atmospheric effects we observe. This is false and the basis of the SCAM. Thermometric temperature can only be the result of some physical action. If these same meteorological Clowns would even try to identify the action required to achieve some measurable temperature The Whole SCAM would be over!
          Meteorologists:
1.)Do not know the mass of the atmosphere, nor its specific heat, sensible heat or latent heat. Nor do they know how to measure, calculate, or guess at those numbers. All ‘heats’ are accumulation\dispersion of power\flux by mass!
2.)Do not consider effects of ocean below or of atmosphere above 12 km.
3.)Never consider the geometry of this Earth! Kinda spherical, rotating, asymmetrically illuminated by the Sun, with an atmosphere held in place only by the gravitational compression of Earth’s mass.
4.)Have never once considered the effects of Earth’s centrifuge on the bizare motion of Earth’s atmosphere.
5.) Never consider the changing angular momentum of each solar system massive bodies and the resultant effect on Earth’s local sensible heat as measured by local temperature.
Such is not an indication of science, but of total complete incompetence!
Total continual ridicule of such scammers is the only solution. Hypotheses is but claiming to know\guess! Stop it!
          All the best!-will-

There have been a few similar “surveys” about peoples views with similar high results. For example at the last Democrats Convention attendees were asked: “which is the best Party in the USA”. The Consensus was that 97% of people asked thought that the Democrats were the best Party

Of course we know the power of consensus. It has kept the Earth flat, stopped the movement of the continents, forced the sun and stars to orbit Earth in eternity, and led to the supreme power of the USSR eclypsing the capitalist western economic system using the power of Lysenkoism. Consensus allowed national socialists in pre WWII Germany to define who had the right to live and who should be disappeared. Consensus led to the bannnig of DDT based on no evidence so that millions of African children could live very brief and miserable lives cut short by malaria instead of becoming productive adults.

By all means use consensus to tell us how we should abandon industrial society and move back into our unheated caves, while foraging for berries, nuts and firewood. Just because 97% of taxpayer funded scientists and bureaucrats whose livilihood depends on raising alarm, and who only really ever agreed that “yes it has become a bit more pleasant out and yes humans may have played some unmeasured role in that” is not a reason to ignore what real science and evidence tells us, unless of course you are a politician or the Pope.

The thought of how many trillions of dollars have been squandered, misappropriated, in the name of climate change is staggering to think about.

And then closer to home, that 1 in every 8 Australians now live in poverty, thousands of children too.

But much more of the money Australian governments have squandered/gifted and where it has gone.

I have been trying to change the climate for decades and in my experimental work, the latest findings are breathtaking.

For example, i now have empirical evidence that can be reproduced that proves we do not need heaters or split system air conditioners to stay warm which are extremely inefficient.

My latest electricity bill is 120 dollars. Last year i had an electricity bill of 250 dollars and that was just for running a split system in my bedroom study. The rest of the house stayed cold. very frugal use of the airconditioner to stay warm….

This year i decided to actualize my experiment and used a hair dryer to blow hot air under my jacket thus creating a kind of hot air balloon effect to stay warm. From time to time i would inject the hair dryer nozzle under my jacket and turn it on to produce the required warming effect.

Since i was only warming myself and not inanimate objects around the bedroom and only myself, my more recent electricity bill for this quarter was only 120 dollars.

Clearly we can afford to close down more power stations and i suggest supply hair dryers to stay warm for all the climate activists who really do want to save the planet….and it would give them something to do…..during this intensifying Maunder Minimum….

And of course styrene foam….the latest generation of bee hives use the very best insulation and cut bee hive power consumption so the bees can produce more honey without the need to expend honey to create warmth or to fan their wings in the heat to cool down the hive.

I myself personally have started using these new insulated beehives and expect to verify the claim that these new insulated bee hives increase honey production by better than 30%. The bees will love their new home…. Of course insulation this powerful….

Hair dryers. That’s what muggins Malcolm calls innovations, EC.

However, it has no long-term future because the EU Commission is in the process of blowing it by pulling the plug on hairdryers that dry hair too quickly.

A draft EC-commissioned study says hairdryers’ power input ranges from 900 watts to as much as 2,300 watts, and needs to be reduced by 30%. Nevertheless, it admits: “of course, more powerful dryers may dry hair in a shorter time but heck, what’s the rush”?

This, of course, is based on a German scheme which awards energy efficiency labels to products which: “achieve power savings of at least 30 per cent compared to standard appliances”. Which is what Mrs Merkel is destined for at the up-coming German erection. She’s no standard appliance.

I asked Clint, my local snipper at Dr Snippy’s Barber Lounge (204 Hay St, Subiaco) as he ran his fingers luxuriantly through my somewhat thinning locks, about that just the other day. He said “that sucks”.

He went on to say: “perhaps you need to attach yourself to the exhaust end of a Hoover? It might be a bit dusty, but come on Sam, it’s recycling”. “And you might enjoy it”.

“Warm and moist too”, Clint, I re-joined.

We, on the other hand, know it as “hot air”.

In the current commentary about Australia’s power dilemma we see very little reference to one of the main drivers of the dilemma… the obsession with the “CO2 is evil” message of IPCC, Flannery , Obama and Gore. Thus far only Miranda Devine , in a Western Australian newspaper, a year or so ago, has had the journalistic courage to point out the fact that an Australian with relevant qualifications, Dr David Evans, has largely debunked the IPCC modelling that has helped steer Australia into high-priced , unreliable energy. Which other Oz journalists have the courage to make their readers aware of Evans’ “fact check” of the IPCC gospel?

As most real scientists are employed by governments, few dare say anything. The number of retired scientists who call Climate Change/Global Warming crap is legion. Were the 350 full time PhD level scientists employed by the CSIRO allowed to say anything? Or would it cost them their jobs? Heads down, just turn up. Write stuff. Draw graphs. Great jobs.

There is also the phenomenon of the true non scientist talking about ‘the science’. I would include all those environmental activists like Flannery and now employed by councils, companies, lawyers, politicians as advisers on ‘the science’. How hard must it have been for Flannery to get a job as an expert in extinct dead giant marsupials? The attack of the macropods could have been avoided if only Flannery had a high paying job? An expert in Sumerian sociology would be more employable. How could he have reached Australia’s Chief Climate Commissioner (a fabulous made up title) by actually getting a degree in real science like meteorology?

Complete independence is fantasy. The bread and butter still rules. The best method is to have a non partisan public service, which in Australia we did have before Whitlam and Wran in NSW.

With the CSIRO the management became partisan in December 1986, when the Hawke government appointed a new board with Neville Wran as chairman. That is when the rot set in.

The more I think about the energy crisis, and that’s only one consideration, I see crime. The ACCC has just stated that AGL Limited is “anti-competitive” in the electricity market. Surely there are others?

And what about picking winners and losers in that market by subsidising inefficiency and penalising efficiency?

Add to that price fixing by allowing the market players to price electricity against the highest cost generators and enabling them to sell lowest cost generator electricity at the calculated retail price, even though the subsidised highest cost generators are (wind and solar) about 5 per cent of the electricity supply?

How does this comply with, for example, the Trade Practises Act?

apparently his coupled model is skilled at volcanos, although he did fail to count the ones in Antarctica.

    novel-length:

12 Sept: NYT Sunday Magazine: What Could We Lose if a NASA Climate Mission Goes Dark?
Researchers are racing to replace the pioneering Grace satellites, which are threatened by both dying batteries and Trump-era budget cuts.
    By JON GERTNER
Without question, we’re living at the start of a dark era of warming climates. But we’re also living in a golden age of environmental data, in which our technology in space can deliver surprising measurements with profound implications. After a big hurricane like Harvey or Irma dumps extraordinary amounts of water on a region, for instance, a pair of NASA satellites known as Grace, which is short for Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment, is able to assess how much water floods in and how it dissipates as the storm recedes…

Yet Grace also illustrates how tenuous the golden age of data really is. The two craft, which were launched in 2002, were originally expected to orbit the planet for five years. They are now dying, and in fact the batteries on one of the satellites are so depleted that it periodically goes to sleep. Since 2010, NASA has been planning and building replacements, and if all goes well, they will be in orbit early next year. But if Grace goes dark or perishes before then, there will be a break in NASA’s continuous observation of Earth’s gravity field and water dynamics. Climate researchers will be confronted with what’s known as a “data gap,” which can leave them at a loss for drawing scientific conclusions about environmental trends…READ ALL

Hey, that’s what happened at BoM.

It didn’t stop them from drawing conclusions about trends.

Pat, since when did ‘climate scientists’ worry about missing data ?

They seem to be very good at ‘losing’ inconvenient data and have a myriad ways of ‘creating’ sources of data that furthers and helps ‘the Cause’.

Nice to see this post and the evidence, unthinkable a clutch of years ago, witnessing the slow unraveling of climatism before our very eyes. Yet it remains nothing more than a monumental distraction, a Trojan horse for the implementation of the UN “transformational” sustainable development agenda, unadulterated eco-Marxism screwing the Globe for all its worth, with power and control the sole objectives.

That most of the Western governments fawn and posture in genuflecting subservience to this Leftist Global bowel movement is the far deeper concern. I’m waiting for the moment of global detonation when the penny drops and all peoples see the Emperor wears no clothes.

Indeed, the EU may have moved inadvertently a little closer to this moment in an act of transparent self-betrayal: “Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the European Commission called for the European Union (EU) to rapidly push ahead with the creation of an EU army.”

    RealEngineer2
A “European Union” WITHOUT THE UK, centered on Germany, at odds with Poland over immigration, at odds with Russia over a border dispute (Ukraine-Crimea), propagandizing the USA, with a growing Jewish hating population demographic… now consolidating the armies of surrounding nations. (Now WHERE did we all see THAT before?)

Meanwhile, how many here know that The European Union and Australia signed a Framework Agreement to deepen cooperation?

Manila, Philippines, 07/08/2017 the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, and Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop, signed the EU-Australia Framework Agreement.

The signing of the Framework Agreement marks the beginning of a new era of strategic cooperation between the European Union and Australia.

The Agreement will enable the European Union and Australia to tackle challenges in foreign and security policy, sustainable development, climate change, and economic and trade matters. It will encourage closer links between leaders across government, business and civil society.

PS: “Civil Society” and the lingua franca of the press release has the finger smudge marks of the UN all over it. Note also that “civil society” is the third arm of the UN and is a uniquely defined UN term.

It’s now way past time wake-up time, Australia.

Manfred, don’t overlook the other things Juncker called for

      A single EU President

A single EU finance minister – and already announced are moves towards centralised (EU) tax setting and tax raising, bypassing and overruling national governments. (Ireland will suffer very badly under this)

Every member state to give up its own currency and join the euro.

All EU member states to be bound by EU decisions and enforced by the ECJ (court)

An end to any member state veto, and no opt-outs.

EU funding of political elections – BUT only for political parties the EU deems ‘acceptable’, i.e. No funding for any party that wants to give their nation a referendum on Leaving the EU or opposes an EU policy.

EU wide approved candidate lists for election to the EU parliament – if you have ever criticised the EU then you’ll never get to be an MEP !

Member States are ‘subject nations’ and whether their people like it or not, agree or oppose they are about to be forced into the EU Federal State.

Small wonder that for the Eastern European nations this is beginning to feel like the centralised statist control of the USSR, something they believed they had escaped from and had found democracy.

The EU doesn’t like ‘democracy’ because the ‘little people’ who vote can’t be trusted to make the ‘right’ decisions.

Does anyone here truly believe that the “Globalists”, being so so close to de-industrializing Australia, will turn back ?

Malcolm Turnbull, and anyone who follows, will do as they are told.
      AGL WILL shut down Liddell.
AGL said there is no future in coal, how much plainer does that statement have to be.
The RET will continue to increase, no matter how long and loud we complain.
There will be at least 50% renewables plugged into our grid. With more and more coal fired Power plants to be closed.. Who is next ?

It is the same story in the USA. Trump has upset the apple cart, thus the total chaos going on there. Hillary was to provide an easy path to the finish line, but that has gone, but the “Globalists” will not give up with the goal being so close.

The only answer is to run your illegal diesel generator and hope you don’t get caught, or fire up the tar pots and start plucking geese.

The only way is to drive out the evil that is hidden amongst us.

State deficit, to buy huge batteries, subsidize uneconomic smelters and build solar power systems for Public servants.
Federal spending off budget, including Snowy II, Very Fast Train, the NBN and more.

    from the Skull & Bonesmen:

12 Sept: Yale E360: Taking the Long View: The ‘Forever Legacy’ of Climate Change
Climate change projections often focus on 2100. But the geological record shows that unless we rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, we will be locking in drastic increases in temperatures and sea levels that will alter the earth not just for centuries, but for millennia.
By Rob Wilder and Dan Kammen
A century or two from now, people may look back at our current era — with its record-breaking high temperatures year after year, rapid disappearance of Arctic sea ice, and gradually rising sea levels — as part of a much cooler and far more desirable past. The spate of extreme weather events in the past month — which have devastated America’s fourth-largest city, Houston; spawned a massive hurricane that tore through the Caribbean and Florida; and swamped large swaths of India and Bangladesh — may well be a prelude to more monster hurricanes, Biblical rain events, and coastal inundations brought about by extreme weather and vastly higher sea levels.

If getting the public, the media, and politicians to pay attention to what might happen to our planet in 2100 seems hard enough, it’s even more difficult to focus on how high — according to the latest research — sea levels may be only a couple of centuries in the future. Yet recent findings lend urgency to the need to contemplate what the world might look like 200 or 300 years from now if greenhouse gas emissions are not brought under control. “Urgent” may seem like a wildly inappropriate word when applied to such a long span of time, but the truth is that humanity’s continuing failure to bring our enormous carbon emissions under control will have planet-altering impacts that could continue not just for hundreds, but thousands, of years…

Many solutions are well known and are readily at hand. The first step might be enacting simple and transparent carbon taxes that begin to reflect true current and long-term costs of dumping CO2 into the atmosphere — costs that are in no way factored into the present-day global economy…

(LOL) There is some reason for hope. Numerous European Union countries including Germany, and several U.S. states such as California, are making steady progress toward decarbonizing their economies. China is doing a lot more lately, though far, far more is needed. Sizeable segments of the private sector — including tech giants like Google, Apple, and Microsoft — are choosing clean energy solutions…READ ON

I have heard many different arguments over the years since the 1970’s, when this started out as Man was causing a Global Ice-age and we all be frozen to death by the mid 1980’s sometime. Then that was proven unlikely. They switch gears as the deadline was coming up, and it became Global Warming and became a Liberal Political Agenda item for votes.

Remember, Global Warming? It was to have the Earth become a Green House and kill everything, melt the Polar ice caps and submerge the Coasts and islands around the world by around 2008-10 according to Mr. Gore and other talking head for $$$$$.

The problem with the Global Warming argument is that numerous studies show the cycle of warming between about 1980 and 1998 had ended and since then, we’ve actually had temperatures DROPPING! Plus once the old outdated temp sensors were relocated away from heat sources (HVAC’s) and the real data was “recovered” using old Microfiche Newspaper weather reports, which they got from the US Gov to begin with. It became clear a organized fix was in. Remember the Climate Gate emails?

When Global Warming was disproved and did not happen, they needed something for a Political Agenda and Meal Ticket and moved on to “Climate Change”.

The whole Politically supported agenda as fallen apart now going on what 3 times and yet they still are hanging in there.

Grasping for straws they even blamed the 1st Cat3+ Hurricane in 10+ years hit the USA Mainland on Trump and Global Warming/Change. But they avoid explaining why no such other hurricanes in 10+ years or why its the USA fault?

FACT: The tropical waves that generate most of these hurricanes start 1000’s of miles from the USA? Many start coming off the west coast of Africa. Others start in the Gulf below Mexico. So are they to blame?

I am sure the next thing the Liberals dream up will be “Climate Shift” or something else that won’t happen for another 20-30 years down the road so they can abused it and collect $$$$ and votes.

    I liked this part:

Given the save-the-planet nature of the field, the unqualified included herds of do-gooders, particularly women. (Note: Dr. Claudia Kubatzki agrees with this assessment.) They love committees. Protection by the herd. Power without sticking your neck out.

While I would never say anything derogatory about women – particularly not here – I have often had very similar thoughts. The “committees”, “protection by the herd” and “power without sticking your neck out” I see as traits favoured by the left in politics.

The “going it alone” and “putting yourself on the line” are traits of the right, IMHO.

    30

    • #
      TdeF

Personally I notice people like to pidgeon hole.

While the herds on the left of politics hail the latest cause celebre as if they were being told what to protest next (Captain Cooks Statue, Robert E Lees statues, Nelson at Trafalgar), people who do not have the group think of the left are presumed to be on the ‘right’. It’s a handy categorization for people who do not want to be told what to think, but the people on the right are largely free thinkers and the derogatory view of the left is that someone like Tony Abbott determines what you are to think, what to say. This is absolutely wrong. There is no clear right in politics, simply a contrast with the extreme left.

I personally have found no right of politics, simply a lot of people who thought Captain Cook was an incredible man with unbelievable courage and skill who dedicated his life to service, that the American Civil war was not about human rights but money and that Lord Nelson saved a nation in a fearsome conquest against terrible odds equal to the battle of Britain. However it would not occur to me to think otherwise, because this is all factual.

So there is no warming. Tiny 0.04% CO2 does not heat the planet. Cars do not increase CO2. None of the nonsense is true, but the left of politics and it is entirely the left of politics have their own fantasy version of science. In their ‘the science’, whatever they want to be true is automatically true. Alkali oceans are acid. Hurricanes and bushfires, floods and even wars are caused by CO2. Polar bears are suffering and cars are killing the Great Barrier Reef and tiny South Australia alone can save the world but shutting down all business and everyone can work for the public service.

No, none of it is true, but it is so obviously mandated by the political leaders of the left of politics. On the right you have
individuals who think for themselves. They are not the ‘right’. They are simply not the oppressive, group thinkers, the lemmings of the left waiting anxiously to be against something else.

I also need to say that in a mere 200 years there are vastly more aborigines in Australia than at any time in the previous 50 thousand years and everyone has good reason to be grateful for white, Christian, British society, science, law and freedoms, none of which are much liked by the Left. How many people have been saved by Australian Howard Florey’s discovery of penicillin, just to name one. There is a marker in the floor of Westminster Abbey to his memory. In today’s world, a statue would be risky.

      51

      • #
        graphicconception

The irony about the statues in the US that “the left” want to destroy is that they are mainly of southern slave owners. According to Dinesh d’Souza, all the slave owners in 1860, which is just prior to the Civil War, were Democrats! It was the Republican, Abraham Lincoln, who abolished slavery in the US.

American Democrats have continued to be what they would call right wing right up to the present day with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama eulogising Robert C Byrd – a KKK Grand Cyclops. You really can’t make this stuff up.

this is so funny on so many levels:

13 Sept: EnvironmentalResearchLetters: OPEN ACCESS: Public willingness to pay for a US carbon tax and preferences for spending the revenue
Authors: Matthew J Kotchen, Zachary M Turk and Anthony A Leiserowitz (Yale)

    Abstract
We provide evidence from a nationally representative survey on Americans’ willingness to pay (WTP) for a carbon tax, and public preferences for how potential carbon-tax revenue should be spent.

The average WTP for a tax on fossil fuels that increases household energy bills is US$177 per year. This translates into an average WTP of 14% more on average for households across the United States, where energy costs differ significantly across states.

***Regarding the tax revenues, Americans are most in support of using the money to invest in clean energy and infrastructure.
There is relatively less support for reducing income or payroll taxes, returning dividends to households, and other expenditure categories. Finally, Americans support using the tax revenues to assist displaced workers in the coal industry enough to compensate each miner nearly US$146 000 upon passage of a carbon tax…

    Acknowledgments
We gratefully acknowledge financial support of the 11th Hour Project, the Energy Foundation, the Grantham Foundation, and the MacArthur Foundation in fielding the survey used in this study.

don’t hold your breath waiting for FakeNewsMSM to report on this:

13 Sept: RFI France: 12 jailed for huge French carbon-trading fraud
A Paris court jailed 12 people for terms of up to nine years on Wednesday for their part in a gigantic carbon tax credit fraud that cost the French state 146 million euros. Another 36 people are to face trial in a related case in a series of scams worth an estimated 1.6 billion euros in total.

Millions of euros were swindled between 2006 and 2009 through a scam on the carbon quota market carried out largely by French-Israeli citizens in what has been dubbed the “fraud of the century.”
In an attempt to find a free-market solution to climate change, the European Union introduced carbon credits, which established quotas for carbon emissions and allowed companies that do not reach them to sell their credits to companies who have exceeded theirs…
The scam took some time to come to light and Wednesday’s sentences follow eight-year jail terms handed down to Marco Mouly and Arnaud Mimran in June…

The heaviest sentence – nine years in prison and a million-euro fine – went to Cyril Astruc, described as the “instigator and primary beneficiary”.
But he and nine of the other defendants were not present in court and an arrest warrants have been issued for them.
Richard Touil, who is also on the run, was sentenced to eight years and a million-euro fine for being “one of the organisers and beneficiaries”, while Kévin El Ghasouani and Grégory Zaoui, who were found responsible for much of the mechanics of the operation, were sentenced to seven years and a million-euro fine and six years and a million-euro fine respectively.

Another participant, Eddie Abittan, also received a six-year sentence and a million-euro fine.
Seven other defendants, most of them nominal heads of companies set up for the scam, were given sentences ranging from one to four years in prison, along with million-euro fines.
All those found guilty were ordered to collectively pay 146 million euros in damages and interest to the government.
Three defendants were found not guilty.
Turkish bank Garanti Bankasi was fined eight million euros for its role in laundering the proceeds.

New trial over bigger (CARBON) fraud
A further 36 people are to face trial in an even bigger carbon tax fraud case.
Judges believe the Marseille-based gang pocketed 385 million euros in unpaid VAT.
The alleged leader was former teacher Christiane Melgrani, who is in prison awaiting trial, as is her alleged lieutenant Gérard Chétrit, while a warrant has been issued for another key defendant, Eric Castiel.
Lawyer Arié Goueta is also believed to have played a key role in the swindle and Grégory Zaoui, who was sentenced in Wednesday’s judgement, is also named in the forthcoming case…

the only other English language mention in recent weeks shows Le Monde published a whole series of articles on the trial, yet our FakeNewsMSM has chosen to ignore the sensational story altogether!

17 Aug: RFI: French press review 17 August 2017
    Vast VAT fraud
This week Le Monde is telling the fascinating story of the “scam of the century”, which cost the European Union six billion euros, of which 1.6 billion were stolen in France, according to Europol.
The plot is thick with shady deals, offshore accounts, and plenty of money laundering and each day, Le Monde is bringing us a new episode of the saga, based on a trial which took place last year…

Le Monde delves into the lives of these multi-million-euro fraudsters.
Some of them started off as small time crooks in the streets of Paris or Marseille, before going on to make astronomical sums, which were never recovered.
One of the group’s masterminds, Cyril Astruc, says he was making over 600,000 euros a month at one point, enjoying a lavish lifestyle and mixing with movie stars…

one day the really big CAGW fraudsters – from the world of science, politics, business & media – need to be held to account for the untold billions they have scammed, not to mention the trillions they have in their sights.

This ought to be MASSIVE news. Not one but two top-level ex-NASA climate scientists turn full Stool Pigeon on the climate scam because, well, it isn’t happening because ‘the settled science’ actually doesn’t make a viable case. Gavin Schmidt “couldn’t make it” in maths so he became a climate scientist

And so on right down the line from the looks of it.

The new guy is better than the old but there’s still much too far to go. 🙁

NASA should never have been allowed to mess around with anything but what its name implies, National Aeronautics and Space Administration. They were never called the National Climate Science Administration. GISS always meant Goddard Institute for Space Studies. Where did anything else come from? Out of thin air, that’s where.

NASA and the huge industrial base that supported it managed to put men on the moon. I doubt that they accomplished that with fudged numbers and a generally dishonest and unaccountable organization.

In spite of losing 3 astronauts in a test run and Apollo 13, their record was sterling. They were disciplined and had standards second to none. Now look at them.

That criticism may be a bit severe. I’ll bet there are still many people at NASA who’re worth keeping. But when the leadership is bad the organization is thrashing around like the proverbial fish on the dock.

“Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar are set to receive subsidies of up to $2.8 billion a year up to 2030”

Sure, but that is at wholesale. I expect we, the public, pay double this. The rest is profiteering. In business, you roughly double your costs, so 9c kw/hr becomes 18c kw/hr. Given that you do not have to buy your LGCs until long after you have received the double, this is pure profit, payment for nothing. It is why people can get electricity at half rate. This goes on in every business and often you still cannot make a profit, but to get double the money for something you do not have to pay is a dream.

AGL are retailer and wholesaler. The profitability is fully realised under the one roof. No wonder they do not want coal. Those mugs will go out of business. Even if the Liddell plant was free, they do not want to have to pay the RET on their own output!

I still believe the so called RET is illegal. It is an abomination in law as it breaks the ancient rule to not enrich others by order of the government. Retailers (on our behalf) have to pay a third party for the right to buy coal/gas/diesel electricity. Carbon is not mentioned. This is not a tax. It does not go to the government at any time. We are ordered to pay people for electricity we have generated ourselves from coal we own and receive no benefit at all.

Governments are allowed raise taxes for the normal business of running governments. They are allowed to charge for services. They can fine. However since Magna Carta they have not had the right to legislate that you must pay strangers and for nothing. In avoiding a Carbon Tax, the Act deliberately does not mention carbon at all and no government body let alone General Revenue receives the cash. Under our Constitution, all taxes must go into General Revenue. This $6Bn (not $3Bn) does not go to the government.

With all the talk of the High Court, someone needs to challenge the Constitutional basis of the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000. It is not within the power of any government to pass such an act. It is not a tax. It is government legislated robbery.

Thank you doctors and here is wishing you more wonderful years together.
I have gathered (I believe) over a thousand pages of material and for that I have to give credit to so many people.
But I also have info from archives which I do not believe anyone else has
All of that which is being used for a book I am writing, five of the main, but not the only poinyd are
    1) Human nature has not changed. Just had ACC to the list of beliefs which are both silly and terrible. Belief in witchcraft eugenics (Hitler came to the United States to observe what we were doing and was extremely impressed.-he just took it to a higher level) and much more.
    2) additional CO2 is a terrific benefit in many ways. Especially in the fact that antithetical to the green movement, the increase in CO2 has made the earth greener by as much as 20% as shown by satellite.
    3) Some serious environmental problems are barely being addressed, especially water. Where it is, Where it isn’t What is in it and what it is doing.
    4) Eventually, the whole of the science world will not be trusted, including good and honest scientists who still practice the elegant scientific method as it should be.

    5) Problems attributed to ACC are really problems of mismanagement and poor land usage and more.

Finally, in what should be called a science fiction movie ” Before the Flood” is now coming out. It is being produced by National Geographic to whom I wrote a scathing letter. A local university forced first year science students to watch it. I have written to three science professors, two politicians and some activists who presented it. I told them (especially the scientists) to just think about the silliness of the points which are made. Be scientists, be skeptical. With the skill of Hollywood, Leonardo Di Caprio guides us through it, Emotional, yes. Foolish and transparent, yes to us but not to a captivated audience. Even the factory emissions are back lit to look ominous. When I stated that really the burning of fossil fuels is very much like respiration in that the fuel combines with O2 to produce CO2, water and energy. (middle school stuff) and just like water condensing in a cooler environment it can be seen like our winter “breath” I could actually get arguments like well, there is good carbon and bad carbon. If I was still teaching, I would have members of a class bring in as many errors as they could find.

I did have to add that some fuels, especially coal, has some things that should be scrubbed Like Mercury and arsenic ions. The greatest additional substances are sulfur ions which are acid producers. But like volcano emissions, this group, referred to aerosols actually cool the planet. No arguments, but no convincing.

Finally, it was known a hundred years ago that CO2 was saturated with respect to the IR frequencies it could absorb. However, that was before quantum mechanics and atmospheric transfer of energy was understood. The whole anthropogenic idea rests in the feedback to H2O which has some of the same, but a larger absorption spectrum than CO2
So, those of you who have the background in quantum mechanics
here is an abbreviated explanation and question. the feedback should show certain observations, especially a warm spot around the equator (more surface water) with a cool area at higher altitudes. That has not been happening.
I am asking anyone to comment or challenge me, on the fact that considering that energy exchange in the now saturated lower atmosphere, the time between collisions is much less that the time for excited atoms to re-emit a photon. Therefore the energy exchange in the pressurized lower atmosphere is almost totally kinetic. and there is no increase in downward radiation, and photons being absorb and re emitted in the broadened wings of the absorption spectra would have almost a transparent window to space

ANY COMMENTS? to challenge or help this old teacher out. I have seen documentation showing the average time for photon re-emission is on average ten times to up to seven orders of magnitude times larger than the time for the mean free path of photons between collisions. If re-absorption does happen, it is well known that there would be hundreds, perhaps thousands to absorptions and re emissions before being absorbed by the earths surface.

There is plenty of rational to support the idea that the climate sensivity of CO2 is really zero. You have mentioned only a small part of the rational namely that LWIR absorption band radiation is not a major heat energy transport mechanism in the troposphere. For me the biggest problem with the AGW conjecture is that the radiant greenhouse effect does not exist anywhere, in a real greenhouse, in the Earth’s atmosphere, or on any planet in the solar system with a thick atmosphere. The insulation effect of the atmophere has nothing to do with the LWIR absorption properties of a few trace gases but is a function of the heat capacity of the atmosphere, gravity which causes the pressure gradient, and the depth of the troposphere.

    ROTFL.

The Great Scam/Con is slowly coming apart.
It’s Wonderful. It’s been a long time coming and it has a long way to go, yet. I’ve been expecting it.
And Trump has done more than many to enable that. It’s a shame a Knighthood is not permitted by US Law …

Studying climate science is not really NASA’s job and the federal government should not be waisting money funding the wrong agency. According to Gore the science is settled so there is nothing new to be learned so no more funding is required. Following the sceince, the climate change we have been experiencing is caused by the sun and the oceans over which Mankind has no control. There is no real evidence that CO2 has any effect on climate and plenty of scientific rational to support the idea that the climate sensivity of CO2 is zero. The AGW conjecture is severely flawed. For example, the AGW conjecture is based upon a radiant greenhouse effect that has not been observed anywhere in the solar system including the Earth. The radiant greenhouse effect is science fiction. Hence the AGW conjecture is science fiction. Our government should not be waisting money on science fiction which is really the domain of the entertainment industry.

The whole aim of Environmental Religion is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins global warming, climate change, AGW, CAGW, etc….., all of them imaginary. ~ H. L. Mencken Enhanced 9/15/17 with all respect.

This should be Great news. Not one but rather two best level ex-NASA atmosphere researchers turn full Stool Pigeon on the atmosphere trick since, well, it isn’t occurring on the grounds that ‘the settled science’ really doesn’t put forth a suitable defense. Straightforward as that. It’s precisely the sort of trustworthy confirmation from inside the atmosphere cartel that ought to be utilized to undermine and complete off this racket. I won’t hold my breath.
