Youtube censorship gone wild removing Michael Moore’s documentary

Michael Moore’s Planet of the Humans racked up 8 million views in a month, then when they extended the free views for another month, YouTube finally found a reason to shut it down. Apparently 4 seconds of video isn’t “fair use” in a documentary any more, and thus for copyright reasons, the video got pulled. If Youtube took down every 4 second violation of copyright there’d be no Youtube. Which may be about to happen anyway, when the young hip revolutionary teens realize the conglomate power is heavily censoring their access to “news” in order to fool them into obedience for corporate profit.

It’s so predictable. A month ago, Myron Ebell, CEI, said “Quick. Watch it before it’s banned”.

Everytime Youtube does this it makes it easier for a competitor to take their top spot. Bring it on.

Moore put it on Vimeo, but searching there finds nothing too. Has Vimeo been “got to”?

Doesn’t matter, because Moore’s now moved to Bitchute. https://www.bitchute.com/video/KQnVEMOOYuJd/

Long live Bitchute.

The documentary was banned by the film distributors right from the start, but when people started tweeting “now that it’s banned, I want to see it” they reversed their decision. But there are many ways to ignore something without actually banning it. So a big Thank You to Youtube for being so cack-handed. This will make both the documentary and Bitchute more popular.

For Michael Moore, this must be an eye opening transition as he falls from Green-Left Grace to become just another of the unspoken untermensch. For him, it might be the first time he really wakes up to the weapons grade corporate power that may have thought he was fighting previously. A Red Pill day. At this point he either does something grovelling to claw back to his former position (but they won’t trust him), or this move pushes him far into skeptic-land. Many a great skeptic is borne from the claws of Censorship.

It may also open some eyes among other namecalling lefty editors, like those on Deadline who still use the petty “deniers” label.

‘Planet Of The Humans’ EP Michael Moore & Director Jeff Gibbs Blast “Blatant Censorship”

The documentary, especially coming from the unassailably left-wing Moore and Gibbs and not right-wing climate-change deniers, was bound to provoke a strong reaction. Among the environmental champions leading the charge against Planet of the Humans has been Josh Fox, the Oscar-nominated director of Gasland. Fox led an earlier campaign on Twitter to get the docu “retracted by its creators and distributors,” calling the film “shockingly misleading and absurd.”

The effort by Fox triggered its own backlash, with the writers organization PEN America labeling it attempted censorship. In his statement to Deadline, Gibbs once against decried any attempt to keep the film from reaching the public.

Here is Gibbs’ full statement to Deadline:

This attempt to take down our film and prevent the public from seeing it is a blatant act of censorship by political critics of Planet of the Humans. It is a misuse of copyright law to shutdown a film that has opened a serious conversation about how parts of the environmental movement have gotten into bed with Wall Street and so-called “green capitalists.” There is absolutely no copyright violation in my film. This is just another attempt by the film’s opponents to subvert the right to free speech.

Opponents of Planet of the Humans, who do not like its critique of the failures of the environmental movement, have worked for weeks to have the film taken down and to block us from appearing on TV and on livestream. Their efforts to subvert free speech have failed, with nearly eight and a half million people already viewing the film on YouTube. These Trumpian tactics are shameful, and their aim to stifle free speech and prevent people from grappling with the uncomfortable truths exposed in this film is deeply disturbing.

PEN America, which was founded in 1922 and fights for the free speech of artists in the U.S. and around the world, came out strongly and denounced the initial attempt to censor this film, and we hope all champions of free expression condemn this act of censorship. We are working with YouTube to resolve this issue and have the film back up as soon as possible.”

My thought on Planet of the Humans: It’s like someone read all the major skeptic blogs in the world on renewables and turned them into a documentary. Shame though he still sees humans and fossil fuels as a plague on the planet. One step at a time.

Welcome to the Deplorables club Michael Moore.

Myron Ebell, Competitive Enterprise Institute describes the film:

Much of the analysis is taken from a 2012 book, Green Illusions: The Dirty Secrets of Clean Energy and the Future of Environmentalism by Ozzie Zehner, who was a co-producer of the film and gives a key interview in it.

A better title for the film would be, The Luddite Left Eats the Climate Industrial Complex. Every type of green energy is exposed as phony, useless, and inextricably dependent on fossil fuel production and large-scale hardrock mining. The targets include wind power, solar power, ethanol, biomass, battery storage, electric vehicles, and seaweed. After revealing the manifold shortcomings in each type of renewable energy, Gibbs, who narrates the film, remarks, “It was enough to make my head explode. I was getting the uneasy feeling that green energy was not going to save us.”

The film also goes after the leading green energy promoters and profiteers. Bill McKibben of 350.org is the leading target, but Al Gore, Michael Brune and the Sierra Club, Michael Bloomberg, Goldman Sachs, Elon Musk and Tesla, Arnold Scwarzenegger, the Nature Conservancy, Vinod Khosla, the Union of Concerned Scientists, Van Jones, Richard Blood, and Jeremy Grantham are also featured. And—of course—the Kochs.

No idea if there was advertising revenue on the Youtube platform for Plant of the Humans. However with only 211 views so far in Bitchute I doubt it has the same earning potential as when on Youtube.

I cannot recall if the film had advertising enabled on Youtube – anyone remember?

Ironically, it’s the attempted censorship that’s making the film become far more publicised and therefore attracting far more viewers to the re-eduction session. It’s also amusing that the ‘left’ identified this censorship blow-back effect soon after the video was made public and with gritted teeth, bravely resisted the urge to pull the video down, only to cave in when they realised the video was becoming more popular than a Marvel film. And of course Youtube also becomes a victim of itself as people discover BitChute, now seen as a champion of free speech. There are more own-goals than a blind school’s soccer match 🙂

That they are eating their own from all sides is a good indication to those of us who accept that the scientific method, and not the IPCC, is the only legitimate arbiter of what is and what is not science.

And this is why when other movies that appear that threaten the agenda and give you a window into the machinations of the deep state ( like plandem ic ) that it get censored like crazy. That just makes me want to view it even more as clearly there is something they don’t want people to know.

True story – I tried a proper scientific approach to get info on vaccination status of people presenting with a specific illness the vaccine was given for, from govt health authorities. Clearly if you test the concept of taking an approach then measuring the effectiveness it tells you how well things work. Seems reasonable, right?
Back about 10 years ago I was able to get the data & had to sign an NDA to get it. Boy , it was an eye opener.

About 3 years ago I tried to get an update and was blocked, shunted off into ethics committees & treated like a naughty school child for daring to ask for what should be openly available ( coz they “work”, right? ) public health data. What it did was make me dig even deeper. Now they have no trust from me, with the predictable result. I tried 4 different govt authorities in different localities with same result.

I get that some people are trouble makers, some are lunatics and some are just dumb. But when you’re a polite, well mannered , technically educated intelligent person who is polite and just wants base anonimized data, why block you?

Anyway, it made me wary, and recent occurrences seem to indicate my wariness has been worth it.

CO2isnotevil….but there’s evil afoot in Australia IMO.

It’s just incredible that policymakers ie Morrison and his Turnbull/GreenLabor Cabinet… plough on like some menacing juggernaut with the massive upheaval of their ‘transition’ of Australia …to make it the only 1st world nation on earth whose leaders are deliberately harming it by ensuring Australia will be the sacrificial goat for this threadbare fraud against democracy.

Morrison et al are apparently hell bent on making Australia the only country on earth whose ‘leaders’ are replacing strong…cheap …reliable… stable simplicity with unstable…possibly dangerous…unreliable…100% weather-dependent …unfathomable complexity… in our essential service …the system on which absolutely everything that happens in this country depends.

Their juggernaut…like some monster rig with no human at the controls… seems impervious to any facts…any developments…any science…not a word from Morrison on the film even though Australia is reportedly going the biomass route…no comment on Labor Premiers’ penchant for blowing up coal plants [ presumably he approves]…nothing about the corruption of science and scientific method as Ridd’s Counsel warned about in court yesterday…no worries has our PM about the sacking of dissenting scientists…he apparently doesn’t give a damn if Australians including our children…and his own policymaking…. are subjected to and misinformed by lies on the issue of the millennium…ie if taxpayers’ money and Australia’s foreseeable future and security are all squandered because the truth was suppressed…censored out…demonized….without comment.

Morrison is focused on his own PR and his own image which he knows the LW CAGW-peddling journalists will polish and promote for him …so long as he …like Bob Hawke he goes for the talkfests with union bosses…and just lets the mayhem rip.

Just another reason YouTube is doomed. YouTube wants to become the new TV/cablevision. the reason people flocked to YouTube in the first place was that it wasn’t TV/cable. They loved the individual creators with their raw authenticity or craziness. Bitvchute seems the most likely Alt Tech at the moment.

Joe Rogan is also leaving youTube for Spotify. I believe he is getting $100 million to move?

YouTube also removed some MedCram videos, which is mind-bogglingly stupid. Comrade Susan Wojcicki has better jump ship before the stain of killing YouTube sticks to her resume.

Exactly! The traditional left media has been sacking staff a few hundred at a time for years due to their audiences moving to internet based sources. You might think this would scare them into ditching their obsession with socialist only content but socialists don’t do business logic. Thus they drive towards bankruptcy at 100 miles an hour and squeal for sympathy when they arrive there.

I have heard from other conservative Christi ans that they are getting thrown off many social media platforms due to not conforming to the Leftist agenda the social media companies appear to be driven by.

So, Moore will likely be “ex-communicated” from the Leftist cult….

The internet is now infested with leftist activists, all very busy trying to shut down or remove dissenting (i.e. conservative) voices. Of course, this is standard procedure for the Left, but even I am surprised how near-complete their mission is, with hitherto remote corners of the internet fast being trodden underfoot by the socialist stormtroopers.

How far does this go, you might ask? Well, we’ve all seen how blogs such as Jo’s slowly become targets for the lefty trolls, with growing numbers of ‘contributions’ from people who are clearly there just to agitate and sow disharmony. I have seen this with a number of conservative sites over recent years and, I am ashamed to say, I have usually just left rather than spend my time in futile squabbling – like mud-wrestling with pigs, it eventually dawns on you that the pigs actually enjoy it.

The most recent example for me was, of all places, a photography forum based in the Netherlands. I knew that the admins leaned hard left, due to the fact that any critique of leftist figures would be shut down pronto, while any amount of Trump-bashing was happily accommodated. Even I was surprised though, when an off-topic discussion of coronavirus led around to China’s part. I stated that I didn’t trust any data or claims coming out of China and was immediately set-upon by a few members who inexplicably rose to China’s defence. Fair enough, but when I put forward what I thought was pretty compelling reasons for that mistrust, I was promptly banned!

Seriously folks, when having conservative opinions gets you banned from a PHOTOGRAPHY FORUM, it’s time to realise that the Left has pretty much taken over the internet.

The long march through the institutions never ends.

Subverting society to the leftist’s cause by infiltrating and sabotaging institutions such as the media, education, professional organizations and professional journals will continue until such time as conservatives get organized and fight back.

Should we be looking to legislate controls for “corporate censorship”.?.

Corporations could only censor material that satisfies a predefined test…..e.g does the material incite violence, does the material break or encourage others to break existing laws…etc….

Even current sympathisers must be aware, Some day..some topic..you wont agree with them either

I doubt requiring sites like YouTube to subject content to tests of civility would make things any better. If anything, they would use such tests to affirm their stance. ‘Their’ ABC boasts that it has been subjected to inquiries into bias and the investigatory panels find no bias. But the panels are made up of ABC sympathizers. YouTube would be the same.

I’ve always thought the ABC got away with it’s bias because they claimed they criticised Labor and Liberal equally. The problem is that the criticisms and most of the rest of their content comes from the left.

Apparently the copyright payment for trying to tell the truth about many things, including climate change, would be far too expensive for our mediocre ruling classes to pay. They just love all that filthy lucre they have amassed from telling lies, but it is all going to fall apart one day … because it always does.

KK awhile back wondered about limits to free speech. All the freedoms in potential in life for man derive from the gift of free will. but there is a price for anything; there are limits in this mostly limited world; there are universal laws anyway including karma, there is a price for youtube, for government, for serving life, you name it. to have a discussion group like this one is valuable opportunity, necessary even that both speech and listening come into balance with silence, communing, proving one’s idea or mettle in practice, and so forth yes, Jo, it does require some organization, but mores there must be some vision, some inspiration, some harmony, some insight, some peace so that any project can find its way of unfoldment. life’s a long road. we have come a little of the way. living in California i could speak of these things that are upon Australia. it takes a lot of patience though to put up with one’s fellow man, with the ongoing ignorance, complacency, compromise, and even to try to face the intentional betrayals. as you can see if you weather the world and its ways.
        cheers anyway; take care. rd.

Nowhere is there any idea that Michael Moore is a skeptic. This ban is to protect the same multi trillion dollar businesses of wind and solar and biomass. The film is not the slightest bit skeptical. The film says simply the solutions are f*kes, run by very big business and even more destructive of the environment than fossil fuels on which they depend.

The pulping of the Joshua trees is particularly evocative. Environmental destruction in the name of the environment. Like shooting brumbies from a helicopter. As for the lonely Orang Utan in a single tree, that is just ridiculous stuff, a tear jerker finale which made no sense.

A real difficulty is that the documentary did not lie. Renewable energy is a fr*ud, as if that was not obvious after thirty years. And rapidly rising sea levels. And rapidly rising disastrous temperatures. And now millions of voters know it. And China is the beneficiary.

With thousands of people a day dying from Wuhan Flu which WHO said categorically was not dangerous, there will be worldwide backlash, against the government of China and their windmills and solar panels. Pandemic after pandemic. And now the major profiteers from renewables, useless disposables. And the utter fantasy of electric cars running on coal electricity to save the planet. 5-26 Comments on YouTube videos containing the terms 共匪 (Gòngfěi), meaning “communist bandit,” and 五毛党 (wǔmáodǎng), meaning “fifty-cent party,” are automatically deleted from the site shortly after they are posted. The latter is a derogatory term referring to Chinese internet censors who are allegedly paid 50 cents for every internet post that they erase.
A YouTube spokeswoman acknowledged to the Washington Free Beacon that the website’s algorithm has been deleting any comments containing either of the two terms within seconds of their submission. She blamed “an error in our enforcement mechanism” for the deletions, rather than an effort to stymie criticism of the authoritarian government. https://freebeacon.com/national-security/youtube-censors-criticism-of-china/

It’s fair to ask this question:
Do people who are skeptical about climate change try to suppress information from those who support it?

It is tempting to ask this question in shorthand form:
Does the right censor the left?

This is much less precise. Clearly environmental issues in general, and climate change in particular, are only ‘left-right’
because one political side wants to attach itself to the issue to gain adherents to it’s political coalition.

Once both sides agreed early on that clean air and clean water were good things to have, the role the government would play in delivering same
assumed a familiar form. And, since the government became involved in something that some on the right or in the middle supported, the lefts saw leverage
and went to work, as the do on every issue, turning their views into a catechism and seeing to suppress the opposition by any means necessary.

And like good little Jacobins always do, they go way overboard and end up eating their own.

Sometimes they recover, but sometimes the guillotine falls first.

Mr.Moore has always been unapologetic about making a profit on his films, and protecting his copyrights, and buying nice homes rather than pretending to poverty,
so perhaps it was inevitable that his small streak of realism would catch up with him.

And that the unappealing and authoritarian side of the left, never far from from the surface, would show the apostate its fangs.

    Run Mr Moore, run.

But hey, misery and destruction of peoples lives is what its all about, right? – surely that’s the definition of evil?

The lock down may have been of medical necessity, but as usual, the Leftists have to politicize it.

Big media along with AI, big banks and IT megacorps, then big pharma too, are a real threat now to completely take over the USA. You’d have to live here to understand the predicament. However, one can do research on it. I have to point to a problem of late which is the following exchange:

Peter C May 24, 2020 at 10:02 pm The major Pharmaceutical companies are a huge resource in our struggle against microbes, not the enemy. I don’t know why they get so many negative comments.

I can’t think of a better example of the advantages of free enterprise as an incentive for public benefit and scientific/technological progress In the World….All the naysayers attribute lots of bad things to the “Minions of Big Pharma”, whoever they might be.
    ………..
I say: Maybe so in Australia. But in USA big pharma and its worldwide tentacles are a $trillion scammer, 95% in very corrupt direction. USA got very corrupted up high.
Big pharma is now increasingly a worldwide danger thanks to its mesh with central banking, the money beast. I’m sorry you are so naive, but one must learn something of the rude world without losing one’s contact with fresh air.

I agree totally with Dinn, rob. For god’s sake guys, do some research on big pharma. A lot of their research is scooped up from universities. Their dream is to have patented something, that patients need to take every day, for the rest of their lives. There is little interest in the major disease problems around the world. OK it’s a free market, and we see it in medical services to Eastern Sydney. That’s where the money is. But the level of greed and corruption with big pharma is off the charts. ie the joys of fentanyl, and the pushing of other seriously addictive pain killing drugs.

Of course climate change is a scam. The climate change believers tell us there is scientific proof that increasing CO2 and methane levels are causing global warming and climate change so they demand that we use energy produced from renewable solar panels, and windmills, and we all drive EVs, and we all stop eating meat, to stop climate change, in other words stop droughts and flooding rains, and heatwaves. As has been discussed on sites such as this, and it has been written about for at least 150 years Australia is sunburnt country, a land of droughts and flooding rains. In other words, heat, droughts and flooding rains are the climate in many places. But if governments do what the climate change believers keep demanding, that if the droughts and flooding rains and heatwaves were stopped, that would be changing the climate, in other words climate change. The Townsville area is one of those that has a climate of droughts and flooding rains. Meanwhile, about 2000 Kms South west of Townsville, is Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre. The lake area has an arid climate and gets water from flooding in places like Townsville. So if the droughts and flooding rains are stopped in places like Townsville, Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre does not fill, so the climate in Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre changes as well.

      AGW. Anthropogenic Global Warming.
Whether the world heats or cools, whatever dire prophecies about the future are made,
I ignore it all. It’s unimportant because the effects of any climate change will be what they
will be – unless they are driven by human endeavour.

Ergo, the only question that matters is: Anthropogenicity?
Ignoring all else, my challenge to any ‘true believer’ making life difficult by spurious
argument, is: Show me the scientific and statistical data that proves climate change is driven
mainly by man and I will believe you. Don’t give me the old run around that ‘the majority of…’.

The usual response then is, ‘there are thousands of papers proving….. ‘. So I then ask, ‘just give me the reference of a couple’. The argument ends and the blogger disappears.

In this entire argument on AGW, the only thing that matters is the ‘A’!
It is a waste of time arguing computer printouts, prophecies and movies.
Falling into the trap arguing outcomes as right or wrong simply muddies the water and
allows the Green – Government – Big Business movement to move on behind the scene, and flourish.

We already knew….but it was good to see it up there…how bereft of any factual base are the rabid stances of those making unimaginable fortunes and wielding enormous power out of their CAGW hysteria rackets.

All authority falls away and we see scared rabbits when they’re faced with a questioner who can’t be easily silenced.

Even Gibbs himself can’t resist desperately seeking and pretending to find non-Left scapegoats…..in Capitalism and ‘Trumpian tactics’…and their aim to stifle free speech and prevent people from grappling with the uncomfortable truths’.

Gibbs has a way to go before he really opens his eyes to see that the shutdown of freedom of speech and the corruption of science on this issue is the preferred MO not of sceptics but of his own LW cohort….proudly proclaimed by them right from the start when they declared a ‘consensus’ that could not be questioned…claimed the science was ‘over’…began the ongoing assault on dissenting scientists to the extent of sacking them….and seeking to totally ruin them…as in Ridd..Salby…Carter to name a few.

I’m sure the epiphany Gibbs and Moore have experienced so far has been painful…but they signal that the LW groupthink still has a grip on them…hopefully they’ll look further.

If journalists were worth a cracker they’d be running with this now instead of burying it in the hope the film and the truth of the matter ‘disappear’ before too many of their own victims of their ongoing censorship of news get to see it…and question the ‘transition’ to 3rd world Australia ‘journalists’are flogging them.

If Youtube took down every 4 second violation of copyright there’d be no Youtube.

Sorry, but you kids need to switch off Fortnight once in a while. YouTube takes down videos for 4 second copyright claims constantly, and, spoiler, there is still YouTube.

This entire ‘censorship’ is bordering on Fake News. If I understand correctly someone has made a Copyright Claim against Moore. (This is what happens on YouTube constantly.) YouTube has taken down the video pending investigation. (This is what happens on YouTube constantly.) The creator has then got right of reply and can either bend the knee, re-edit to remove, accept demoneyitising for that video, or tell YouTube that they know what Fair Use is and the claimant can go jump. (This is what happens on YouTube constantly.)

If I understand correctly the video is now back on YouTube (This is what happens on YouTube constantly.)

Is this sort of thing Lawfare? Sometimes. The larger companies have bots that troll through posted vids looking for content they believe they own. My understanding is music is claimed constantly because it is easier for the bots to detect, but they can also match video. There are ways and means around this – ask a content creator for more details as my knowledge is via osmosis – and since most of the claims are caused by bots they are quickly over turned by human moderation in most cases.

The damage for the creator is their ad revenue comes from how popular something is at any one time. 100,000 views in 24hours will make you more sweet cash than 200,000 views over several months. Creators therefore want to have their video posted and all their fans, subscribers and casual randoms watch it in the first 48 hours or so, causing the video to get higher on the magical YouTube ranking system. Having your video delayed for two or three days can hurt them (on top of the extra work to re-edit etc)

So, did this guy deliberately claim his 4 seconds as Lawfare against Moore? Hmmm… maybe… Probably maybe I guess. Attention seeking is also a possibility.

Deliberate attention stunt by Moore’s side is also possible. “Look at me! I am being BANNED! They want me SILENCED!!! oh… and also my video is back up. Like, share and subscribe.”

Point is that YouTube is being YouTube. It is how they operate. There is no hidden star chamber attempting (this time) to control you and what you can say. Those people work for Twitter and Facebook.

      03

      • #

JanEarth, no feeding peanuts to anyone. You’ve only been commenting here for two months. Readers who’ve been around for ten years know that Youtube add labels and free correction “links to Big Gov adverts” to only one side of the political spectrum. Guess which side?

Google own Youtube and also happen to be run entirely by self admitted Democrat voters who were “deeply offended” that Trump won, and in saying that to a large group of employees, the assumption was that they all shared the management view. Watch the video.

“Sergey Brin, co-founder of one of the most influential companies in the world:

““As an immigrant and a refugee, I certainly find this election deeply offensive, and I know many of you do too.”

Walker says that Google should fight to ensure the populist movement – not just in the U.S. but around the world – is merely a “blip” and a “hiccup” in a historical arc that “bends toward progress.”

CEO Sundar Pichai states that the company will develop machine learning and A.I. to combat what an employee described as “misinformation” shared by “low-information voters.””

But both Youtube and Google tell the world they are unbiased. But they target and demonetize one side of the political spectrum. And when that side files a lawsuit, the judge finds that Youtube is allowed to be politically biased: “that YouTube was not a public forum subject to First Amendment scrutiny by judges. “
        https://www.reuters.com/article/us-google-lawsuit-censorship/google-defeats-conservative-nonprofits-youtube-censorship-appeal-idUSKCN20K33L

It’s the ultimate “have cake, eat cake” position. All the benefits of looking like an impartial platform while they use AI to filter and punish views they don’t like.

If it isn’t a public forum, then it’s a publisher and should be subject to all the same laws as other publishers (copyright, defamation, false advertising, anti-trust etc). Instead they sit in this vulnerable but powerful quasi-monopoly role of global “news and truth server”, legally protected by the Deep State which they support and endorse for obvious reasons. The last thing they want is a government that doesn’t hand out lots of money and enforces the constitution.

Wind revolutionary Germany is constructing a pipeline to Russia to import gas for electricity generation in power stations.

During 2019 the German economy was in recession -0.5% and their forecast for 2020 before the pandemic was for GDP growth of +0.5%

The Australian newspaper reported today that investment in renewables world wide has fallen.

Above too the plea for donations from readers …presumably including from conservatives and sceptics who have been expressly banned from commenting on their craven groupthink blog because we tend not to toe the line without questioning….too sceptical as Misha told us.

…above their ridiculous protestations this week they dispatch two writers to tell Australians why gas is too dirty to use as transition fuel and that we must go the full weather-dependent.

I tend to agree that gas …if all emissions are counted…is at least as GHG-emitting as coal…as quite a few experts say…and we’ll hear more of that as the RE carpetbaggers put the mockers on every possible alternative to their intermittents…including pumped hydro.

But one of these writers is a member of the German Greens Party and is funded by international ‘philanthropies’ plus German and other Left Wing governments and she says …with bat-crazy malevolent hypocrisy …that Australia must phase out gas as well as coal…even as Germany increases gas …,continues to burn coal and biomass and has a snowball’s chance of displacing with intermittents the more than half its present generation that comes from gas…coal…oil….nuclear and biomass…and even if it did…it would still have the option of getting electricity that’s generated by those reliable fuels from neighbouring countries…ie reliable baseload forever…an option we don’t have.

Isn’t it important to expose the wind farm promotional material claims that are always based on installed (nameplate) theoretical capacity and not AEMO capacity factor?

This new wind farm could produce energy to power 2 million homes.

    Theoretically.

But when the wind blows over time on average 600,000 homes and that energy is a tiny contribution to grid baseload demand.

In case anyone missed it Ian1946 at #32 notes it is back up on Youtube. Presumably without the 4 seconds.

In my experience, videos are often taken down for even a few seconds of stolen material.

The assumption that this was the work of the evil promoters of useless replaceables is reasonable. However it is far more likely to be the work of automated lawyers. In a litigious world even 4 seconds is found and actioned. Web crawlers check every document, every video, every recording to match against the database of works owned by groups like Pinterest, Getty, Sony and more. You then get a threat in the mail. They rapidly match the digital signatures and if even a single image is on your web site or in your video or an old newsletter, they will find it. Even on the way back machine. Usually you pay up.

The music you use is checked and you cannot use Copyright music without permission and payment. So you submit and it is checked and rejected. Even four seconds is actionable. Remember the late Greg Ham of Men at Work who lost everything for an allegedly stolen riff. It was a simple happy tune by a young girl in a public competition in the 1920s. A necessary condition of entry was to sign over the rights, at the time almost worthless. A legal group ultimately bought the rights and sued Men At work, more than half a century later. They won. A few bars wrecked Greg’s life, possibly a memory from childhood. He died young at 59.

Copyright used to end at 40 years. It has now crept up to 70 years. The modern copyright bonanza is because Walt Disney in particular keep spending billions pushing back the termination of copyright so they still own Mickey Mouse, Donald, Daisy, Pluto, images which fund Disneyland. Even the 1960s Beatles music should be public by now, but it isn’t now until 2030+, until few people alive remember them as young men from Liverpool and Paul McCartney will be 88.

So a presumably edited Planet of the Humans is back up with already 300,000+ views, so more popular than ever.

Along with another video allegedly debunking the claims. It seems everything wrong with solar and wind and biomass has been fixed. Of course.

Youtube, Google, Twitter, FB, instagram etc claim to be “platforms” and not “publishers” which effectively allows them to sidestep any threat of legal conviction under Section 230 of the US Communications Decency Act 1996 for their content. However, they might occupy the position of platforms legally but they have exerted editorial control of what is broadcast by independent content providers or censored independent content providers. Seems a misapplication of the law since they are acting like publishers.

If anyone brings legal action, which is almost always a lost cause since these tech companies have deep pockets. But these companies have used the defense that they are private companies, not public spaces, which entitles them to decide what they allow on their platforms. Catch 22 for free speech!

Pressure on government needs to be brought to bear to bring the tech companies under the same kind of legal status that utilities have which prevents them from denying service to customers for political views. They also need to be recognised as the modern public space where free speech must be enforced. I also advocate their monopoly positions be broken up.

Remember in the recent past western societies were once very careful not to allow individuals and companies have media monopolies or cross-holdings in several media companies?
