Walking in the Valley of Political Death, after Trump, Farage, and One Nation took all the risks and paved the way out of the Climate Swamp, the Liberals have finally been dragged into saying a definite “No” to Net Zero, including repealing the toxic Safeguard Mechanism.
What they haven’t done as a party is show leadership.
A few brave souls in the party have spoken out (like Andrew Hastie and Alex Antic) but the official Liberal policy, as explained last November, is still that lowering emissions is a worthy thing for no good reason other than being pagan weather controlling witchcraft. Do the Liberals still think that they should pander to the Paris agreement blob? That’s what they said last year.
The thing about “playing it safe”, as the Liberals have done, is that they were waiting for The People to figure out Net Zero was a pile of voodoo before they would risk being called names by the teenage girly monsters. The problem is that once the people realize Net Zero is an international parasite thriving on grift and graft, it’s about a nanosecond before they want a real leader who will take a blow-torch to the parasites. In that nanosecond they flip to the party of true leaders — the ones who took a position based on principle and led the way.
Until the Liberals take some risks and face down the namecalling vipers, the voters won’t believe they have the mojo to take on the whole cartel of Blob Bankers, Blob Bureaucrats, vested Blob industries and foreign interests who depend upon our climate-patsy compliance with the fantasy.
The Liberals need to start to sell the absurdities of “Net Zero” with conviction. The way to win the Teal seats is not to pander to the fantasy, it’s to mock it mercilessly.
Every day the Liberals wait for the polls to shift they are that much closer to extinction.
It was a good speech, but it could have been a great one…
Extracts of Angus Taylors’s Budget Reply Speech
Second, prioritising net zero and emissions reduction above all else has seen cheap, always-on power dismissed for expensive, sometimes-on, industrial-scale renewables – mainly sourced from offshore.
Power prices have soared – causing households to struggle, businesses to close, and industries to move offshore. Far from a future made in Australia, our future is being made abroad.
Australians have been fed the lie that our economy can function on solar, wind, and batteries alone. But the truth is fossil fuels continue to drive our economy and our prosperity.
In this Budget alone, Labor has $18 billion in new net zero spending. Labor’s net zero obsession is driving up inflation and destroying our economy. That’s why net zero must go.
…
The Coalition will also abolish Labor’s great big carbon tax – the so-called Safeguard Mechanism.
This tax jacks up the price on essential building materials like steel, cement, and glass – driving up the cost of new homes.
If the Liberal Party have a rebellious spine, or courage under fire, it’s been excised. Those brave souls who spoke out when the costs of saying something was high were often pushed sideways or right out of the party (like Craig Kelly and Gerard Rennick, or Barnaby Joyce and Pauline Hanson).
If the Liberals hadn’t tossed out people like this, they wouldn’t have wasted half a year voting for Susan Ley as a leader in a doomed holding pattern.
The party is a shadow of it’s former self. They did drop Net Zero targets last November, and promise to get rid of the Safeguard mechanism, but then they still thought the Paris Agreement was useful.

Sadly TOO late.
The trust is gone – at best, they are pretending to be conservative.
Their covid behavior has passed unaddressed – able to be repeated if the masters wish it.
Their behavior to free speech is just as appalling.
The trust is gone and they did it.
920
If the Libs etc are fair dinkum, TELL US by introducing Bills into parliament
to get out of the Paris agreement and the UN and scrap the fictional net zero.
Then MAYBE we’ll start believing them;
But I know that’s a long bow.
710
If the Coalition were to campaign from now on by saying that the first item of business in the next parliament will be this resolution, “ that that global warming / net zero scheme has been a swindle on the Australian people and an economic catastrophe, and this government will now eradicate its legislative and regulatory basis completely and utterly as a matter of national survival, “ then they may have, and even deserve a chance. Otherwise, not.
200
I couldn’t agree more wholeheartedly. The Libs have been given too many chances. For mine, I won’t be happy until the Liberals are an Historical artifact, and the ground covering their grave has been thoroughly salted. Most other Australian “Conservatives” need to join them under the cold, cold salty ground, because true Conservatives naturally see the need to unite. ON is on the pathway to enlightenment, and they must be supported.
700
Please stop helping Labor to spread relentless negativity and based on the Labor governments notably Victoria and Queensland that imposed State Emergency Legislation passed by State Parliaments on State responsibility and powers Public Health, Hospitals, hotel quarantine detention, interstate border closures, vaccine mandates via State Health, restrictions on our movements and related undermining of businesses and employees, etc.
The National Leaders Cabinet was for Premiers and Prime Minister and based on Council Of Australian Governments but limited to leaders for pandemic period, the objective of the Prime Minister was to gain cooperation and coordination between States that have the powers required.
It was said the Federal Government could have legislated Commonwealth Emergency Powers to override State constitutional laws based powers, the Attorney General advised and spoke on television explaining that to override States that way would risk damaging the Federation and without doubt result in time consuming High Court challenges. In a period unforeseen that arrived here early January 2020 and nothing like it experienced since Spanish Influenza early 1900s. There is a Federal Health Department pandemic plan created while Tony Abbott was Minister for Health in the Howard Government but implementation is only possible with State cooperation, and Labor used that pandemic Premiers and Opposition Leader Albanese to undermine Morrison Government.
Similar tactic 2019 bushfires, also Premiers and State Emergency Services responsibility and authorities based, and when any Premier or Prime Minister is on leave, even a family holiday in Hawaii, the Deputy is Acting Premier or Prime Minister, Morrison absent was a Labor deception and too many voters and media talked it up.
910
Before somebody posts Morrison funded the States no he did not, Federal funding was for economic stimulus required for national economy purposes as State economies were in decline. States have GST distribution revenue, many State taxes and for example they promised to get rid of stamp duty and payroll tax in return for GST revenue.
62
Finally, on the edge of extinction, the Australian opposition start to fight on Net Zero – One has to wonder why now? AND what will the sheeple think? Have a Great DAY everyone.
00
Until I hear words to the effect that the LNP will legislate pulling out of the Paris Agreement & are able to convince me that it WILL HAPPEN, I will not trust them to carry thru with their claim. Divorcing that dumbass agreement is not popular among the moderates, Jane Hume being one of them!
Over to you Mr Taylor, I am only one of millions who’re waiting to see exactly who / what you’re made of. Don’t wait too long we’re running out of patience!!!
820
and kick Turnbull out of the party
340
Everyone of those that voted for Sussan Ley in the recent leadership vote need to go as well. The moderates are simply waiting their time and they will do to Taylor what they did to Abbot. I do not think that the Liberals can be reformed. I have seen how it works as I used to be a member and I can tell you the local branches are not picking the candidates,
21
The Liberals face extinction but this is a welcome change in that Labor cannot get away with its nonsense, without scrutiny.
We must hope that Labor will come under more scrutiny and less adulation (except on the ABC and some newspapers).
460
Labor isn’t loved by most, scraping through the last election with only a third of primary votes. Our preference system elected them, not the people.
432
Even Labor is sensing the shift in the local and international political landscape. This week they all but cancelled funding for green hydrogen energy projects. Albo and co have followed Twiggy Forrest’s cue and blamed Trump for this measure. The aspiring PM’s words are worth reflecting on, the opposite of what he said has come to pass:
To be fair, he didn’t start the scheme- it was Canavan and Taylor who granted $500 million to the Australian Hydrogen Fund in 2019. They could regain some credibility if they admitted making a huge mistake by tipping a massive amount of tax dollars into a money pit. It’s taken 7 years for the Uniparty to admit green hydrogen is presently an unfeasible energy source (in saying “admit” l mean they’ve just parked the project on the back burner until it fades from public memory).
https://www.theage.com.au/politics/federal/trump-spurs-billion-dollar-cuts-to-labor-s-green-hydrogen-dream-20260513-p5zw9e.html
210
Out of desperation for votes, not conviction. To me, that is hypocrisy. No better than the Labor-rhoids.
590
Yes, the LibNats hoist their flag and it continues to follow the direction of the wind. We’ve all seen their colours – yellow with a red centre – not to signify the heart of Australia, but to signify the heart of the Communist blob they worship.
They adhere to the doctrine that Peter Garrett once spoke out loud – that they’ll say anything and then do what they want. We’ve seen this from them before. When Pauline gets her nose in front, they dress in her clothes and tell people “No, we’re Pauline!” Once the election is done, the costumes and makeup comes off and it’s back to blob business as usual.
There’s only one Pauline Hanson. Vote for authenticity.
291
I won’t accept their climate credentials until they loudly and proudly announce BEFORE the election that they will withdraw from the Paris Agreement as TRUMP did. And stop calling Net Zero “aspirational”.
Their policy must be to erase all “renewables” and related policies and return Australia to the energy environment it had before Howard started dismantling the elelectrical grid in 1997.
Their past anti-energy (a), anti-free speech (b), anti-freedom policies (c) ETC. have done tremendous damage to the party. It’s probably not fixable, and I wouldn’t believe anything they said anyway.
The Liberal Party remains infested with Leftists, the so-called “moderate” faction, which used to be called “the wets” back in the day. Particularly bad in Victoriastan.
I’m not even sure they know what conservatism means.
It’s time for a fresh start with One Nation.
Notes:
(A) E.g. Howard got Australia involved in the Kyoto Protocol by signing but not ratifying it. This was the defining moment of Australia’s self-destruction using the “renewables” weapon. Other Lib/Lab regimes followed. In Victoriastan Libs voted with Labor to put a fracking ban in the state constitution. Weird!
(B) E.g. The draconian e Safety Kommissar was a Liberal invention, fully supported by other Lib/Lab regimes. Libs also voted with Labor to ban social media access to under 16s thus removing them from access to many educational materials on YouTube or opinions there or elsewhere. They now only receive the Official Narrative taught in the dumbed-down “schools”. We now know that adults who aren’t willing to provide biometric ID can’t access certain scientific blogs as I reported the other day. E.g. as reported Dr Philip Altman, see post https://joannenova.com.au/2026/05/sunday-158/#comment-2910525 This will also transition into compulsory digital ID for all Australians. (That was reported by someone on this blog within the last few weeks.)
(C) E.g. https://nswliberal.org.au/news/digital-id-program-in-disarray-under-labor QUOTE: Digital ID is a proud Coalition reform. Under our leadership, we established the Australian Government’s first digital identity, MyGovID, and set up the foundations for a truly national, whole-of-economy ecosystem by delivering a $256 million investment, called the Digital Business Package, as part of the 2020-21 Budget. END QUOTE
601
Liberals should also start unwinding BS inconvenience laws like the bans on free plastic shopping bags and plastic drinking straws.
480
OTOH having to pay for those “shopping bags” is probably a “useful” incentive to be frugal in their usage, whether they are paper, plastic or mystery fiber.
Yes there are number of once used paper bags on the floor of my back car seat
30
Sorry, I wasn’t convinced. He didn’t sound to me like a man who was 100% in. I’m not sure whether he himself had personal doubts about the Net Zero bit, or whether he knew there were still too many holdouts sitting behind him.
I think they were trying to be Labor Lite – now I think they are trying to be One Nation Lite.
440
The Liberals under Scott Morrison also banned offshore oil and gas exploration in the Sydney Basin.
Fortunately that ban appears to have been overturned in court.
It all demonstrates the wrong attitude by the Liberals.
500
UK is following in AU’s footsteps.
“The UK government will introduce legislation banning new North Sea oil and gas exploration licences as part of its Energy Independence Bill.”
https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/UK-Moves-to-Ban-New-North-Sea-Oil-and-Gas-Licences-Permanently.html
Sheer lunacy.
210
Note the source – Anthony Albanese.
“Aug 23 (Reuters) – Australia’s BPH Energy Ltd (BPH.AX), opens new tab said on Tuesday it was conducting a review of options, including potential for legal avenues, after reports said former Prime Minister Scott Morrison used his power to block an exploration project of the company.
Morrison had secretly appointed himself minister for home affairs and treasury during the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to the health, finance and resources portfolios previously revealed, current Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said last week.”
Later Prime Minister Albanese was forced to admit that advice he had received from the Solicitor General was that the alleged secret self appointments was in accordance with Constitutional Law and that the Governor General had carried out the appointments requested by Prime Minister Morrison.
Another example of classic Labor propaganda that is so often lacking important background information.
Maybe the exploration application turned down was for very good reason.
14
Thats OK, I was all in for Windmills for Wharringa, just to support Zalli Stegall.
80
Whatever Taylor said EXPECT the opposite.
They’re STILL part of the UNI-PARTY.
And will NOT change.
332
Exactly my thoughts , they are governed by focus groups and right now focus groups are saying they need to out do One Nation by using some of their 60 – 40 policies just watered down a bit so as not to upset the moderate liberals . When they / if they get in their policies will revert back to align with the uniparty mentality .
281
If that created for political purposes was true please explain why only recently One Nation has publicly commented that they would like to join the Coalition two parties to defeat Labor in return for appointments to the Coalition Government Cabinet of Ministers?
Why would the One Nation proud minor party group want to join Uniparty?
23
Pauline definitely said, “We DO NOT want ON ministers in a coalition with the Nats and Libs.”
And Pauline has said that MORE than once.
Keep your scuttlebutt away.
72
They don’t.
One Nation has offered to support the Coalition to form government if it would defeat the Labor/Greens. Not join them.
But what if One Nation has more seats. Would it work the other way around?
Pauline Hanson explains her reasons here!

Oil is the key to wealth.
Our only sure source of huge reserves is Coal-to-Liquids. It dwarfs the 4 Billion barrels taken from Bass Strait.
We have a lot of coal.
Start converting it and the cost of the process will fall.
There are four processes available.
China knows how to do one of them and will process 500 MILLION tons of low quality coal this coming financial year.
Sasol would love to do it here. Their country is toast.
A leader in Victoria would be on a plane to open discussions with both of them. We have no such person. Jess Wilson’s plan is not cutting hard enough fast enough. It will require a A$50B Federal government bailout in 2027.
Over to you Pauline. Take Matt Canavan with you. Ask Doug Burgum to attend. He has 350Bt of lignite in his back yard. Copy Chris Wright.
Ask Japan for the finance. Ask Singapore for the financial management.
Get on with it otherwise the collapse of Victoria is going to bury Australia.
440
If they’re short on technology there’s plenty of experienced technicians available in South Africa. Sasol has been extracting oil from coal since start of operations in 1952.
Sasol Chemicals is listed on Johannesburg & New York stock exchanges.
Two plants operate in South Africa at Sasolburg & Secunda. 2 towns established to around the plants.
What ever is extracted from oil is extracted from even low grade coal. Fuels, fertiliser, plastics…..not to mention independence from sources in hostile regions, don’t forget employment, & export. This technology is a winner.
340
South African Sasol engineers, technicians and managers are the type of immigrants Australia needs, not terrorists or terrorist sympathisers (and future Labor voters).
TRUMP is taking South African farmers as refugees, let Australia take their energy people.
As South Africa “decolonises” they have made it clear they don’t want “colonial” education or ways anyway. They are happily regressing to their native lifestyle and so don’t need energy or colonial technology. Good for them. It’s what they want.
380
South African refugees were welcomed here under Morrison and Abbott. Burke is keen to send them home. This is the same moron (traitor?) who imports potential terrorists.
I also note that Zimbabwe is realising, too late, that white farmers know how to farm. The blacks who took the farms, usually at the point of a gun, have no idea and are lazy. As a result Zimbabwe is going hungry. Couldn’t happen to a better mob. It might start restricting population growth.
330
And the Turnbull regime also rejected SA farmers.
241
Turnbull Government lasted three years and ended late 2018, Turnbull is no longer a Member of Parliament and resigned several years ago.
As long as I have been following politics there have been good and bad periods of government, even the best governments made bad decisions at times in my opinion.
Right now in 2026 with two year or less until the next Federal election (months to VIC State election) I am most interested in now and the future of our nation, the past is not changeable. And the politicians are elected and leave to be replaced. Rear view mirror gazing risks a future crash
19
Rhodesian tourism officials used the name of the Zimbabwe ruins, a stone structure thought to have been built by unknown peoples way back in the mists of time, as a catchphrase….. “ visit Rhodesia and see the Zimbabwe ruins”.
This of course has now been reversed in keeping with current times & is now advertised as “ come to Zimbabwe and see the Rhodesia ruins “.
30
I did some work for Sasol 2-3 years ago, via their London office. I can’t speak for the company as a whole, but at least in their oil and gas sector, they use contractors for a lot of their geoscience and engineering work, though this is not an uncommon thing in oil & gas generally.
They have quite large drilling operations in Mozambique. I wanted to visit, but the visa process and timing was… complex!
They are also committed to hiring locally trained people in Mozambique, including university graduates. That was a pleasant surprise, given how “local employment” can be, and is misrepresented by other companies.
30
To get the oil from coal mission moving I’m sure that Sasol Chemicals may be interested in developing / investing in an Australian oil from coal project. They already have a proven base ( approximately 74 years worth ) from which to work. Who knows how much additional technology may develop with Australian input!!
A partnership like this would cut years from having to develop this type of industry from scratch!!! That would of course also depend on the leadership in Australia being serious about developing independent industries???
60
If they’re short on technology there’s plenty of experienced technicians available in South Africa. Sasol has been extracting oil from coal since start of operations in 1952.

130
I’ve been to Secunda. It makes Johannesburg air seem clean. The Sasol plant is one of the largest point sources of SO2 in the world. This is not a technology you would ever want to import.
116
So filter out the SO2 or be a vassal state of China. Which will it be?
290
Neither. There are lots of technology options out there. Net Zero isn’t optional, it is something that has to occur this century. Otherwise, there will have to be massive translocation of massive populations from no longer habitable areas. This is not something your more fervent anti-immigration supporters would be in favour of.
127
And the climate models are your Gods….
180
Climate models are based on physical laws which have been unchallenged for over 150 years.
125
The proof of a good model is how well it predicts the future. Even James Hansen’s crude 1982 GCM which ran on an IBM XT PC has been much more successful than the people you defer to, who rely on Fourier transforms, dodgy non-linear regressions, and lots of hand-waving.
017
I assume that was his model that said that even if CO2 expanded by a factor of 8 in the amount of CO2, which is highly unlikely in the next several thousand years, will produce an increase in the surface temperature of less than 2 deg. K.
60
@Simon:
>Climate models are based on physical laws which have been unchallenged for over 150 years.
Physical laws have been based on long-term reliability, climate models not so much.
RCP8.5 Is Officially Dead

Utter rubbish. No AGW/global boiling prediction has ever been vindicated. AFW/global boiling is such a lie it cannot even hindcast; that is their models cannot even predict the past and what has already happened climatically;

About 1 BILLION people are going to be on-the-move next month as their countries run out of diesel.
Please tell us how Net Zero policies would help? Now and one hundred years from now.
00
Don’t be so simplistic – it depends on the sulphur content in the feedstock.
100
Lignite has almost no sulhur or heavy metals. No SOx or NOx is produced.
What you fear Simon is a solution that does not involve a solar panel or windmill.
No Green ANYTHING.
CO2 is also valuable. There is not enough of it.
30
Geoff Croker:
I am not sure that we need more Chinese influence in Victoria, but YES use lignite to oil seems the quickest way.
Especially as Victorian lignite (brown coal) is quite low in sulphur etc. once the water content is reduced, as we have a CSIRO method to do that.
I would wonder whether the SASOL (Fischer-Tropsch) or the Karrick process would be the better choice (it was used in Australia during WW2).
The Bergius process was the main one used in Germany during WW2 but seems the less likely.
What was your fourth process?
150
Solvents or steam.
Solvents dry out the coal. One treatment and lignite becomes hydrophobic.
Currently experimenting with magentic fields.
Do what works at scale first. Improve it when its installed.
We have run out of “looking into it” time.

Geoff, Oil shale is less costly in both capital and mining than Coal to oil. There is lots of it in Queensland. The coal quality matters for coal to oil. One needs a high volatile, hard black coal with low ash for the best yields. That coal is in NSW in the Sydney basin. The only use for brown coal (in Gippsland Vic. which has over 60% moisture) is to burn it to produce electricity. Natural gas is too valuable to be burnt as a fuel to make electricity as found by the UAE which has built 4 *1400 MW nuclear power plants.
10
Best volatile daf yields are from lignite not black coal.
Shale oil needs lots of methane for heating.
Happy to try solvents on it but have no access.
I have tested lots of lignites and other organics.
Gippsland has 33 Bt of proven, 395 Bt of inferred and another 1,200 Bt under Bass Strait of lignite. A gas separation plant. An oil pipeline to a refiner with a port.
If Qld can compete on a resource and infrastructure basis, fantastic. Do Gladstone.
NSW can compete at Newcastle. Extract the oil from the black coal at the port before shipment of the carbon.
Now we have three sites. Do ALL of them.
10
The Coalition have lost the trust of the majority of Conservative voters and I think they must now insist we pull out of the Paris agreement BS and fra-d.
Lomborg and Gore’s mate Dr Hansen called Paris BS and fra-d at the time and yet we’ve now waited for over a decade to pull out of this dangerous lunacy.
The facts prove that we now live in the safest period in Human history and yet the jelly backs still haven’t got the guts to use the evidence or facts to prove their case. IOW why are they not using the evidence every day to prove their case?
241
The funny thing is that Lomborg believed (believes?) in climate change. His argument was the windmills and solar panels were the least cost effective methods of abatement. The left just heard somebody against wind and solar and went berserk. They have their beliefs and brook no disagreement.
Australia could significantly reduce CO2 emissions whilst still retaining a reliable grid by building a swathe of new, efficient coal plants, but the left insist on destroying the west with poor quality Chinese windmills and solar panels.
81
Sorry SteveM but what could be more fatuous than setting a path to “significantly reduce CO2 emissions”?
As TdeF tirelessly reiterates, atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration is controlled by the temperature of the ocean and no amount of combustion at the scales available to human industry will alter it say I.
100
Sorry about the tirelessly, but I never read it anywhere else and it is why I comment.
The other is that with radio(active) carbon dating, you can show the amount of fossil fuel CO2 is only 2% of CO2. From 1958!
That was my first check when I heard this incredible story. I thought it would all just disappear as it is so outrageously silly. But after $20Trillion dollars spent on trying to reduce CO2, you would have to say just being right has no impact on this Henny Penny fantasy.
180
And I was wiped out from Quora for defeating every crazy expert with simple scince facts, graphs, data, equations and not abuse. So they executed me and removed thousands of comments and references and simple proofs. It’s a huge industry this nonsense. And a lot of people make their entire living from this scam. Plus the many politicians who are part of it and all the public servants and pseudo scientists whose jobs depend on it.
250
Not only that, but enormous numbers of people base their entire identity on “believing in global warming”. So proving them wrong obliterates their entire sense of worth and reason for existing. As such, simply questioning their beliefs represents both a personal and physical attack on their life, hence the disproportionately vicious reaction.
40
Don’t apologise for that TdeF; there will be people reading who haven’t seen your earlier contributions. It doesn’t do the rest of us any harm to be reminded of those CO2 facts either. Thankyou for all your efforts over the years.
10
Read some history and you will find examples of kings and rulers who ‘led from behind’ only to find their people despised them for it and switched their allegiance to the warrior who actually did the fighting and won the wars.
250
Examples of former: Darius III (Persian Empire), John Balliol (Scotland), Kaiser Wilhelm II (Germany), Muhammad Shah (Mughal Empire), Rudolf II (Holy Roman Emperor). .
Examples of the latter: Alexander the Great, Charlemagne, Genghis Khan, Shivaji Maharaj.
Australia’s non-leaders are probably closest to Rudolf II who sat in his palace pursuing alchemy and astrology (today’s equivalent being Net Zero), whilst ignoring the greater real issues around him. Although in fairness, he wasn’t all bad as he espoused Renaissance values and the Scientific Revolution, something our non-leaders despise and he was also against the Ottoman Empire and their expansion (although militarily ineffective). Our non-leaders love the Saracens.
180
Talking of ‘Saracens’ another example of a successful warrior king was Saladin, an early proponent of Jihad.
40
The Coalition have lost the trust of the majority of Conservative voters and I think they must now insist we pull out of the Paris agreement BS and fra-d.

IOW they should hammer the clueless Labor, Greens and Teals every day until the next election.

Sorry I don’t know why my comment doubled up. I’ll have to do better.

I doubt it’s you. Weird things happen at times I find, especially on mobiles.

Why is it the Woke never wake up? It’s not just Net Zero. That’s just the last non science sound grab for something which was always demonstrably false.
BLM, DEI, ESG are BUM ideas pushed on the public by politicians who ape the latest nonsense pushed by the activist media. The media stopped reporting actual news and real public opinion and even basic science or facts decades ago. Most journalists are leftists who spin everything to the latest left agenda. You can only survive a posting in Washington or New York if you flow with river and in 2016, 98.4% of Washington voted for Hillary Clinton and hate Donald Trump. And still do. And corporations sense the political wind and agree as modern governments with their communist leanings will punish any company which dares to challenge the anti Carbon creed.
In Australia our largest steel company, Bluescope, offers financial support to any entrepreneur who can make Green Steel, steel without generating CO2. It’s the holy grail like alchemy, lead into gold. Just change fundamental Chemistry because politicians are universally terrified of the element Carbon. Because they want support from the press to climb the greasy pole, not because they have any principles themselves. Of course they know it’s all fake. Honesty is the first casualty in a desperate political career. Except for Trump, Farage and Hanson.
It would be interesting to work out how many hundreds of billions have vanished in the search to eliminate CO2 from our lives when in fact CO2 is the gas from which all life is made and which powers all thought, all action and all living things. It is the one sign of living things as all living things breathe out CO2. Now we are scared of our own shadow and even apologize endlessly for the industrial revolution which really freed the slaves and dragged a planet from universal poverty and for democracy and Christianity which told us all men should be created equal under the law. Which in Australia is no longer true.
450
With the latest legal decision in the Giggle vs Tickle trial, the Libs will not have to worry about gender quotas for their election nominees.
The Libs can get rid of the sex discrimination commissar, not only because of this decision but also as she cannot define what a Man/Woman is, or does this decision excuse her defence of not being a scientist? It seems even judges cannot find any difference

What is outstanding in the Victoria Liberal party is their hatred for very qualified Moira Deeming. From the Victorian President down. And their unlimited and fiscal support for lawyer John Persutto who tried to destroy here financially and professionally. And still continues to do so. Is it just the transgender issue? The incessant attacks on Pauline Hanson span 30 years completely without explanation, even though she is now their ticket back to government and even John Howard, who openly detests Hanson, says so.
I am not understanding what makes the modern politician tick. Almost none are conviction politicians. They all seem to just blow with the wind and spend more time trying to destroy any popular conservative politician, as with Tony Abbott. In America RINOS and in Australia LINOS. I can only think they have Chinese sponsors as it’s easier to destroy the opposition and let communists like Albanese win by default. Albanese had a landslide victory with a lower vote than Bill Shorten who lost? You can sleet that home to the Liberal party and in the UK to the Tories.
And net zero is nonsense. It makes no sense except to non science people. Perhaps based on the total ignorance of chemistry like “Turning lead into gold, a legendary alchemical goal called chrysopia, is historically rooted in the belief that all matter stems from a single formless essence.” So you can ban carbon like you ban plastic bags. There is nothing a government cannot legislate. (regardless of the Constitution)

A lot of what’s wrong with Victorian politics is not about Labor at all, it’s with the fecklessness and incompetence if the Liberal Party.
Nothing short of a carte blanche clean up by Jeff Kennet is going to change anything.
Or just vote one nation.
100
‘Trump, Farage and Hanson.’ Three real people who never wanted to be politicians in the first place. Real people resonate with real people.
270
The LNP is a lost cause. They embraced the UN globalist agenda from Howard’s Renewable Energy Theft; Turnbull owning wind farms; Angus Taylor was energy minister when the Snowy 2 money sink hole commenced and Morrison embracing Net Zero. Only Abbott showed resistance but lost confidence.
LNP lack guiding values. That makes them followers not leaders.
Pauline Hanson has been steadfast on quality of immigrants and resisting apartheid and race based enclaves. Malcolm Roberts has consistently fought the UN Climate Change™ hoax. Both have been visible and vocal advocates on freedom of choice and free speech. ON has not changed. The voters are realising they have been constantly lied to and Labor’s UN globalist agenda accelerates the economic and moral decline into poverty.
451
ON will never win enough city electorates to form government but it is invaluable as an electoral cattle prod.
Both major parties (yes, I know the LNP is not really a “major” anymore) are now running scared of the ON cattle prod in the regions and outer suburbs.
This turnout is the best I’ve seen for over a decade. The cattle prod needs to be maintained for a lot longer yet but it will have a useful effect.
80
Never is a long time.
I doubt anyone voting for ON at the last Federal election thought they would be supporting the top polling party in May 2026. I know I didn’t.
Australia still suffers badly from TDS because people hate admitting they were wrong and taken for a ride by UN sympathisers who infest academia and government funded bodies like their ABC and CSIRO.
There is still a work ethic in Australia. It is probably more alive now than in my younger days because there are more small business owners and fewer large unionised industrial sites. In any case, Labor no longer represent the working class.
240
Whenever I read criticism based on “LNP” I realise the author is not across the political parties because Liberal Party and National Party are in Coalition partnership, in Queensland only they merged and became Liberal National Party of Queensland
33
Yep, anyone thinking Angus Taylor or even Matt Canavan will be the new messiah are deluded. Both were in government or ministries when the worst of the climate blob objectives were enforced. Taylor at one stage ( as Minister) was promoting a pumped hydro project in South Australia. The guy just looks too dull and I think not a hard worker.
70
For what it’s worth Ross, Taylor is a Rhodes scholar. The guy is smart but it’s not clear he has the Mojo to fight this battle. If he gets rewarded for speaking up a bit, will he, maybe, grow into it, will he develop that confidence to smack down the nonsense unapologetically? I don’t think he will, but wartime sometimes brings out surprises.
Otherwise, we know Hastie has the fighting spirit. And Canavan. Jacinta. Antic. But true warriors are few and far between.
It is possible that in a coalition which includes One Nation, with Barnaby and Cory Bernardi steering the ship the Liberals might realize it’s a battle to the death and they must clear out the deadwood and find a real leader.
But they urgently need to stop bad-mouthing One Nation, it’s only driving former Liberals further away. It’s their Deplorables moment.
261
I have heard him speak at a Sydney Institute function. I agree, he is smart – of course he is. But he has been curiously unresponsive in the past to the grievances – indeed the despair – of conservatives. I have personally questioned him about the state of the Liberal Party in this regard – and he was just weirdly perplexed. This, admittedly was a year or two ago. But he is only now starting to “rev up” his attacks on Labor. It may be too late.
Canavan, of course, is a fighter, and has borne the front line fighting for a long time. He has at last won the leadership of the Nats – where he belongs. Alex Antic is another smart and dedicated conservative. A shame he is in the Senate, although surely he could acquire a seat in the Reps to acquire the leadership of the Libs – though Lib jealousy may prevent it. Jacinta is an incredibly impressive speaker – bright and passionate. She will make an excellent Minister in a Coalition government. Hastie is another outstanding resource – he has unassailable integrity, which, unfortunately, may restrict him in the pragmatic game of politics. His hostility to BRS may detract from his popularity.
To all and sundry, it is obvious that the Libs (and/or the Nats) must form a Coalition of sorts with ON to gain government. Although recent polls have shown ON passing Labor, this is unlikely to translate into ON forming government, even with some preferences from the Coalition. I believe that they must form a formal Coalition. And many believe that this is an impossibility.

Pauline Hanson first a Liberal MP and since 1997 Pauline Hanson One Nation recently shortened to One Nation and until recent Farrer by election not one elected as One Nation MP in House of Representatives, 29 years of Senate only and four Senators since 2025, Greens have ten.
Taylor and Canavan are far better qualified and with private sector business backgrounds than that comment suggests.
The pumped hydro SA, I am not aware of it, would be a State Government project proposal, Snowy 2.0 is different because Snowy Hydro Limited is Federal Government owned.
Primary responsibility for electricity supply, privatisation of power stations and transmission lines started by NSW Labor 1990s involved State public assets sold.
Transition to renewable energy and away from fossil fuels is Federal legislation but required State legislation and approvals, development applications, land and environment and so on.
Morrison Government for example proposed a new coal fired HELE power station to QLD Labor Government and Federal funding underwriting and the offer was rejected. Also offered one gas turbine generator plant for VIC and QLD and two NSW, as far as I am aware only NSW has proceeded with one plant owned and to be operated by Snowy Hydro Limited.
24
Consider Senate seat compared to House of Representatives seat, Senators represent the State they are elected to serve and represent in the Commonwealth Federal Parliament, House of Representatives elected to serve and represent constituents in electorates, much more demanding of time responsibilities involved and three year terms compared to six year terms for Senators.
Remuneration packages for both are far above private sector occupations that require constant attendance to duties performed, a career that not only pays well but offers a comfortable retirement package as well, and Senate arguably the best position compared to House of Representatives.
One Nation focus often stated is balance of power in the Senate, they know that forming even opposition from their minor party status base right now is not possible, at least not in the foreseeable future and definitely not Victoria later this year and Federal 2028 or maybe earlier if Albanese Labor panic.
Not surprising that One Nation recently suggested being accepted as a third Coalition partner party in return for cabinet portfolios if returned to government.
The major problem for me is that disunity and One Nation constantly publicity seeking and attacking Coalition and members, also attacking Albanese Labor, and referring to a Uniparty that does not exist, no such party registered and while there are areas of similarity look closer, Abbott attempted to overturn Labor transition to renewable energy legislation but the Senate blocked the bill. Morrison and Taylor Energy Minister as ministerial media releases covered had many changes underway and most incomplete when Albanese Labor was elected May 2022, now four years ago.

The common enemy of Catholics, Protestants, Buddhists, Hindus, Jews and others is atheistic Communism/anarchism/socialism. In the same way leaders/supporters of LNP, PHON, UAP, Family First, etc., your enemy is the left. STOP fighting one another. The LNP may have gone astray, but there must be 1000’s of LNP officeholders/members who have the experience and branch networks that the other party’s could benefit by the sharing their knowledge. Be respectful of your ideological allies, and try to ensure that all conservative preferences stay on our side, come voting time. Promote your party by positive comparison to the left, not fratricidal attacks on your allies.
70
I think taylor meant what he said. But i dont think bragg, kovacic, hume and the other wets from the nsw lib division will let it happen. And thats the reason they cant be trusted. The photios faction has to be removed from the party.

Barnaby Joyce was asked by the ABC what he thought of Taylor’s budget reply. He said, “I think they should acknowledge one nation policies past, present, and emerging.”
😄

That is funny. Have you got a link?
I went looking for something but only found this:

Barnaby is warning about Taiwan coming. I think there will be some behind the scenes discussion between Trump administration and Taiwan leadership in the coming weeks.
Could you imagine if US asked Australia to stop exporting iron ore, bauxite and coking coal to China. China retaliates with no manufactured goods to Australis. That would cripple Australia’s economy. And it then makes Australia a big target. Ships are built from steel and planes/drones, missiles from aluminium.

I prob should have posted a link but I originally only saw it as a Facebook short clip. But wasn’t sure anyone wanted to endure some ABC.

Ferguson was unusually respectful. Some butting in but not overly aggressive. I can see some bridge building going on. Her first interview I have watched till the end.
And comments open so left this one:
The ON government can save a bundle by setting your ABC free to establish a subscription model. You will need more than 8k Youtube views to make a living.

Trump speaking on talks with Xi.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nt7hGfIs5Tc
They agree on Iran not having nuclear weapons but recognise that Iran is an important supplier to China.
Trump states that Taiwan is very important to Xi. They do not want a fight over it. Xi does not want Taiwan to seek independence though. At 4:54 Trump states he will need to talk to the President/Leader. I doubt he would say that if he had not discussed the basis of such a discussion with Xi. It is, indeed, interesting times.
Xi has never met with Lai Ching-te despite Ching-te requesting a meeting. Maybe Trump can do some oiling. But it would need precision better suited to the smooth talking Rubio. I don’t think there is a Chinese cultural expert in the current Trump administration although there was an advisor in the first.
It is quite apparent that Xi and CCP are not going to allow Taiwan independence. That is a big deal globally now.

I am genuinely curious. Why does RickWill not get any green or red ticks?
Is it something he/she said in the past?

Some of us dont live on here
Rick is a valued contributor
60
Yes you’re absolutely correct. I need to be more patient.
10
Maybe start a campaign to “Tick the Rick”!
That was a classic opening line by Barnaby. I think the ABC may have ordered a smoking ceremony to cleanse his sarcasm from the studio afterwards.
90
And yes, I gave him some ticks. Not out of sympathy, I did them before l read your comment James.

Thanks to Lib/Lab policies Australia is an energy poor country (domestically).
But unlike other energy and resource poor countries like Israel, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland and Tawain, who use their brains to produce high tech products, we don’t do that either.
Unfortunately Australia has adopted the worst of both worlds under Lib/Lab non-leadership.
Australia might not be fixable, even with a conservative government like One Nation because years of damage starting when Howard initiated destruction of the energy supply is just too great because of the wealth renewables has consumed and destroyed and the debt and deindustrialisation created.
240
FORTE NIHIL DIFFICILIUS. ( nothing is too difficult for the brave ).
Try it Australia, it works. Don’t put the start up date on hold!! Start NOW!

Australia is totally fixable , absent politics. With politics, as you say.

Everyone posting here (except for a few climate die-hards) has been predicting this ultimate collapse of the climate cult for almost twenty years and the reason is simple. People will always reject being moved from a position of prosperity to one of poverty. A recent poll in QLD found that 54% of households can no longer put food on the table every day and that’s the final nail in the climate coffin. It’s why people are rejecting the major parties because they all sold the same lies. The first lie was that RE would lead to cheaper and more reliable energy. The second lie was that if we acted alone on CC, then the other developing countries would follow.
After 20 years of CC action we now have an energy poverty crisis, a collapsing economy and almost two trillion dollars of total government debt. And, since the UNFCCC agreement was signed, the rest of the world have driven up their emissions by 2.5x, causing an 80% increase in total global emissions over this period, despite the 10% fall in emissions from OECD countries. Non-OECD countries now make up over 70% of global emissions and total emissions will more than double in 2050 from their UNFCCC baseline point in 1994. And all of this was 100% predictable because it was the only possible outcome.
Is there a greater failure in human history than what has unfolded here ????
All of this leaves me wondering why and how on earth did we reach this point ?. Why did governments and so called “elite” academics and the university educated community embrace such retarded thinking and lead us to this tipping point of economic and cultural collapse ?. This is where we need to focus in our woke climate post mortem. We need answers because this can never be allowed to be repeated.
360
Your answer is “politics”. It seems to destroy the brain cells of many humans
90
The basic reasons behind this enormous disaster are essentially those of human behaviour – nothing new except the scale.
Amongst the informed scientific groups, there are many who are genuinely appalled at what they regard as terrifying environmental damage continually growing from industrialisation. Some of these are vindinctive enough (they regard huge population numbers as overwhelmingly greedy) to have looked for ways to ratchet this process down and down.
CO2 as a gas offered real scope here, as it is a ubiquitous end product of almost all industrialisation processes, it is invisible and without obvious odour (so the bulk of the population can be easily scared about it) and cumulatively reducing its’ generation through removing hydrocarbon use cuts energy supplies so industrial growth is cabin’d, crib’d and confined. CO2 physics, chemistry and geology are regarded as too arcane (and difficult) for most of the populace to grasp in any detail. And it is a very weak “greenhouse” gas. In short, a perfect fall guy.
Enter the deeply cynical, greedily power grasping politicians (governmental and corporate), practised in the arts of population manipulation. This group overcame the scruples of honest scientists about cynical and dishonest inaccuracies by separating the IPCC Reports into two parts – a political and easy to read first section (always released first and made widely available) and a scientific, hard section full of tables, figures and dense academic language (always released long after the first propagandising section and much more difficult to obtain in full). One could not reconcile the two sections. The prize was/is a new worldwide marketplace with untold power and wealth for those who are able to grasp the opportunities, such as Chinese EV’s. And they point to the IPCC reports, science section 2, for a “keep quiet” lever, although 95% of the population cannot read it.
The major obstacle was people’s obvious reluctance to reduce their standard of living, and a solid obstacle it was and still is to a degree. So conditioning through the constant, never-ending media din of imputed guilt was deployed. We know from long human history that imputed guilt works on very large segments of the population, particularly if constantly hammered. This ploy, combined with the gee-whizzery of “new” technology (although windmills are hardly new, and the first electric cars were produced in the very early 1900’s) to convince most that the fall in living standards was modest, was sufficient to turn the apparent tide.
That ploy is seen as tarnished now by significant numbers of its’ victims, but nonetheless, another very old and stubborn human trait has now presented itself: most people can never admit they have been fooled, so admitting they were wrong, even in degree, is almost impossible. I also think that wide-spread resistance to any change, whether expressed through voting or market behaviour, will be met at the bottom with real violence.
40
We’re supposed to be a western cultured society of critical thinkers, where we aren’t bound by group think or ideology. That’s what made the west great and drove a long history of scientific discovery and invention from Newton and DaVinci to Einstein. Where and how did we lose the art of critical thought and become beholden to political narratives and rigid ideology that were so obviously wrong, even the bloke at the pub with no tertiary education could spot the problem in an instant ?
10
The People with the money used to have the power and made the decisions. There was no left compliant media. That wasn’t so good either, but the pendulum has swung wide in response. The sensible middle was probably passed somewhere between 1945 and 1960.

The other thing the coalition need to do is embrace One Nation and do the preference deal with them now , but unlike in Farrer no lying attack smear campaigns against One Nation or their candidates.
Was a bit rich hearing Matt Canavan continually bag David Farley when Matt Canavan was a paid up card carrying member of the Communist / Marxist party .
160
He had a falling out with the Trots.
‘While at University, Canavan identified as a communist until a political disagreement with volunteers for the International Socialist Organisation.’ (wiki)
That is history, at the moment he has been assigned the task of saying CO2 doesn’t cause global warming. He will get a lot of flack, yet the debate which follows is a prerequisite for abandoning the Safeguard mechanism.
62
The Safeguard Mechanism is the most devastatingly stupid, greedy and illogical tax in history, designed to destroy the other 2/3 of the energy which is not on the ‘Grid’. The war with Iran has exposed the fact that 2/3 of our energy is nothing to do with the grid. Shipping, trucks, smelting, farming, flying. All to pay 35% CO2 tax. And the public is not to know about it, which has worked out brilliantly.
The government is using the same tactic they used in the awful State Sales Taxes which were out of control. Unlimited. But you could get a big discount if you hid them from the public, as with the RET. It’s ultimately about destroying the country, robbing the people and making sure they have no idea.
The 35% CO2 tax is never mentioned by any politicians, as far as I have read even Canavan. But they are afraid to jack up petrol prices because of the backlash. So watch everything you pay jump massively with this punitive taxation which reaches its maximum in 2029 It’s illegal, based on Gillard’s ridiculous science free carbon credits, utterly destructive and not in the budget at all because once again the money never goes back to the people like ordinary taxation. Legalized robbery.
Do politicians lie to us? “There will be no carbon tax in a government I lead” means “you will not know about the carbon taxes in any governement”. And they won’t be taxes as the people never get the money back.
260
I don’t understand why a single big company does not take the Safeguard Mechanism to Court by refusing to pay and appealing to the High Court of Australia on the grounds that the compelled payments are illegal because they do not go into General Revenue. Therefore they are not taxation! The money vanishes, leaves the country and impoverishes everyone. Not roads, infrastructure, education, health, defence, productivity but gone, laundered.
Since Magna Carta the principle has been that the government has a right of taxation and returns the money to the people in benefits, but not the right to force you to pay third parties for something worthless like carbon credits. And the people who write the laws know this. The politicians know it. The gnomes of Canberra know this. It would take only one major player to object, but they seem either sycophyantic to the government or more Woke than their struggling share holders. How will Qantas survive with a 35% CO2 tax? The Tasmanian ferry? Just pass it onto the public? What else can they do? Refuse.
We should not be paying for endless illegal CO2 carbon credits. This was known in Howard’s deceitful original Renewable Energy(Electricity) Act 2001. The Act does not anywhere use the word Carbon. Nor the word Tax. So no ‘Carbon tax’ but that is all it is. It was so deceitfully original that it was copied in the UK. The first of many Carbon tax which hide their true intention, to steal from the people of Australia outside the taxation system. And funnel that massive flow of cash to their friends. We paid for all the windmills but we don’t own them.
All it would take is one appeal to the High Court. It’s not taxation, it’s trillion dollar carbon theft which makes Snowy II look like an investment.
250
I asked John Howard about this carbon tax. He did not answer and deflected, stating that he was ‘agnostic’ on Climate Change. Really? Can we have the RET money back? Can we own the windmills panels because the people who owned them didn’t pay for them. Then perhaps wind power would actually lower electricity bills instead of forcing them up? Or perhaps they could pay for Snowy II and not everyone else?
150
This is the problem, Australians are concerned.
https://news.csu.edu.au/latest-news/australians-worried-about-climate-collapse-new-report
The Greens and One Nation are both warning of imminent social collapse from different perspectives.
35
Firstly I thought that Charles Sturt Uni was in Adelaide (until it amalgamated with Adelaide Uni).
Secondly I would say that the Greens are worried, really worried, about funds being cut-off. It’s been a profitable scare for them.
Thirdly, One Nation may well be worried about Collapse in 25 years; which may be the apparent wish by the current lot in Canberra (including those bureaucrats who think that LIFE WILL GO ON FOR EVER).
And now, I must see my letter to the local Paper about the lack of evidence about global warming due to CO2.
50
We need credible scientists to capture the ears of Canavan and Hastie, to open their minds on the science.
This is the only way to jump the MSM hurdle, all we demand is a scientific debate.
52
Good reference. “high levels of concern among Australians”
Rubbish. More fake surveys. Who are these Australians? On a par with “some people say”. Fake surveys on fake science presented as news.
There are tens of thousands of credible scientists in Australia who could demolish man made CO2 driven rapid tipping point Global Warming. But they would be fired. And their superannuation cancelled. It happened to Prof Peter Ridd. So they say nothing.
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing” 18th-century philosopher Edmund Burke.”
120
This is credible science, when Australia was two degrees warmer than present, CO2 was at its lowest level in the ice core record.

Political reality.

I found Patrick De Deckker, perhaps you might like to recommend someone? We’ll draw up a short list.
22
All it would take is one appeal to the High Court. It’s not taxation, it’s trillion dollar carbon theft which makes Snowy II look like an investment.
I thought I would never say this – but, quite frankly, I don’t have great confidence that the High Court would agree. A court which has deemed it unconstitutional for illegal immigrants to be held in ongoing imprisonment, and further deemed ankle bracelets and curfews illegal, does not give me confidence.
100
This is far more fundamental, not an interpretation a reading between the lines on immigration, arguable. There is nothing in the Constitution which gives the government the right to rob people. That is fine for governments to force people to pay someone for nothing. That is the definition of robbery, taking money by compulsion with nothing in return. No Constitution gives that right, although it is increasingly common practice in Australian because no one challenges it. In fact we challenge no laws in my experience. Governments are now a law unto themselves and most people have no idea of their rights.
If the High Court were to support it, the High Court is worthless. The government does not even get the money! They administer these electronic ‘certificates’ and payments but make sure not to touch the cash. Were the Australian High Court to approve of payment for fantasy Carbon Credits, the Australian government would be exposed as a criminal operation, supported by the courts. But as you suggest, that may be the case.
40
There is an admission to the illegality of these ‘carbon’ ‘taxes’ that they are collected indirectly, by stealth. What you see are inflated prices for goods and services. And the government does not report on the tax because it is not a tax. This is done to avoid the explanations and avoid the electoral backlash, to keep people ignorant, to avoid questions in parliament, to avoid reporting at budget time, to avoid explanations. Those are all sure signs it is illegal and the authors of the law know it. And it is never mentioned in parliament because it doesn’t exist as a topic.
40
Sadly buddy, one thing the whole 2020 fiasco taught me is that most people enjoy keeping themselves ignorant.
They don’t like asking questions, they certainly don’t want uncomfortable answers and for the most part just go along to get along.
The Constitution is a map that tells people where to go to find good governance … but it is not in itself anything more than a piece of paper unless large numbers of people read it and follow that map.
The Australian Constitution clearly says that any tax at the Commonwealth level can only exist, if that tax serves the purpose of the Constitution as a whole. Well there’s nothing in the Constitution about Carbon, nor electricity, nor global temperature.
But people aren’t interested, they worry about the neighbour’s barking dog, or what’s on TV or which dress is in fashion this year.
30
The Liberal Partry? Still fraught with reminiscers trying to conjur up past Liberal Party greats like Menzies in the hope of getting the old Liberal Party pizazz back. There’s no pizazz, it’s long dead, its epitaph reads: “lost and gone forever”. What substitutes for the Liberal Party now should be called the Controlled Opposition Party. Any perceived real opposition from those “few brave souls” will have an uphill, time wasting battle against the white-anting of the factions from within. S..t Creek sandwiches are available at the Hard Road Ahead canteen.
30
What if it’s all only lip service to calm the angry mob (us) to improve their chances of election relevance, I think that is a far more likely reason of their change of tact than the Liberals actually giving a rats about Australians or Australia’s well being both economically or sovereignly.
The only reason for them to survive is as a minor partner to O.N to remove the communist Labor / Greens alliance.
40
Great article , I agree with the lot . Those that spoke out early paid dearly . Malcolm Roberts nailed it very early . I worked out that the whole Glowbull warming thing was a scam and a tool to destroy the economies of western nations about the same time . Angus Taylor made a great speech , better than I expected but yet I still hope for an even stronger response . He could not have made that speech a year ago without massive scorn and ridicule , but the Overton window has shifted a great deal in recent months . The spell has broken .
Now we need to not just pull out of Paris , we need to dump the UN and the WHO : both a threat to our sovereignty and welfare .
But as someone on Sky News commented : There are still a few wets ( leftards ) in the Liberal party who will try to cling onto the UN and it’s damaging policies . So Angus will have to tell them to come on board to repair our damaged nation or go join the Greens .

It appears to be ignored that Sussan Ley was the first LINO left leader since Turnbull was replaced by Morrison late 2018, and she received a very narrow Liberal MP vote majority to replace Dutton after the 2025 election. Almost immediately she stated all or most polices taken to the 2025 election were off the table and there would be revisions and new policies discussed but the National Party Coalition partners disagreed and a Leader and Deputy Leader of the Opposition parties commenced and resulted in a split between the parties.
Ley not even one year as Leader was replaced by Taylor with two-thirds substantial majority Liberal MP votes, the National Party Leader resigned from that position and he was replaced with no opposition candidate by Canavan. Both Taylor and Canavan had been Minister for Energy in previous Coalition governments and I have posted links here covering the post-Turnbull 2018 Morrison Government initiatives 2019-2022 relating to overturning transition away from fossil fuels and others, noting Dutton Plan later to retain all electricity technology installations and add seven, two one generator plants and five multiple generator power stations nuclear technology to replace closed coal power stations capacity and addd extra generating capacity.
The Farrer by election result with One Nation gaining their first ever House of Representatives MP elected, the other transferred from National Party after the 2025 election and being returned as a National MP former Leader and Deputy Prime Minister two times. One Nation is now four only Senators and two only House of Representatives MP noting that to form government the minimum required is seventy six (76) MPs House of Representatives.
I have also posted the broad based timeline history from Howard and Kyoto Japan COP 1997 (ratified later by Rudd Labor after they formed government in November 2007.
And the terms and conditions Howard applied including;
* Emissions reduction based on new technology developments
* No damage to the economy
Those conditions remained Coalition policy ever since and at Glasgow COP 2021 Prime Minister Morrison despite pressure applied by POTUS Biden and UK PM Johnson and others (UNIPCC of course as well) refused to “sign up to” and instead stated Australia will have “an aspirational goal” based on (Howard first) new technology developments (later Duttin Plan zero emissions nuclear power stations) and no damage to the economy.
Abbott Coalition tried to repeal Labor transition to renewable energy etc legislation 2014 and the bill was defeated in the Senate, they did however agree to abolish Labor’s carbon tax.
As many understand the system of government here is based on the Federation of States that formed Commonwealth of Australia and the Constitution 1900.
States have far more powers and areas of responsibilities than the Commonwealth or Federal Government the States created.
And both State governments and Federal have upper and lower houses – Senate or Legislative Council and House of Representatives or Legislative Assembly. Federal legislation is usually backed up by State legislation and regulations including State Local Government Councils responsibilities. The system is difficult to deal with by any Federal Government like Abbott example and if Abbott had succeeded in repealing Labor legislation next would have been to convince the States to cooperate. Without control of both houses and noting the influence of Greens and the Teals masquerading as Independents that most often vote with Labor Party.
Also do not ignore the United Nations and octopus tentacles attached organisations and the pressures they apply to member nations with compliant member nations assistance to any country government that dares not to agree and cooperate, including tourism (Great Barrier Reef threats by bad publicity to international tourists) and trade (note Lima Agreement/Protocol 1975 that POTUS Trump has been trying to deal with) all adding to the pressures governments must deal with even if opposed to climate politics agendas.
Timeline history records reveal that Australia’s best economic and finance management governments have been Coalition Liberal-National (was Country Party originally). And that following Labor periods in government budget repair management has delayed implementation of policies and achieving surplus budgets to repay debt. Howard Coalition handed over zero debt November 2007 and by September 2013 Labor had racked up over $400 billion debt based on combined 2013/14 Labor Budget stated gross debt that the insoendebt auditor reported had exceeded Labor’s debt ceiling limit and that the deficit was under stated – various 2013/14 Budget commitments such as the NDIS no provision made to pay so more debt required for the already signed agreements with every State and Territory government, Gonski Education Grants to States, and so on.
Looking backwards into a rear view mirror and often repeating Labor relentless negativity propaganda is not going to get rid of Albanese Labor Government and budget repairing that would follow. Uniparty might be catchy but ask why recently One Nation publicly declared that they would like to join the Coalition parties to form government in return for cabinet portfolios, two MPs now elected and maybe some more 2028 if the One Nation publicity seeking media attention disunity of conservative side of politics ends now.
Since being elected Leader and Deputy Opposition Leader Taylor and Canavan were campaigning pointing out Australia has everything needed to be self sufficient, more prosperous and more secure. The Budget Reply speech added a lot of detail but as to be expected the negativity continues, no immigration number stated they say – Taylor did explain why being exact number depends on the population 2028, availability of government services for existing population including housing supply, and access to all government departments.
I have posted the Immigration statistics Howard from 2000 to Albanese to 2025 and that Coalition average is well below Albanese and Rudd government terms.
We know what climate change politics is really all about, Christiana Figureres former UN Official told a meeting of delegates October 2015 before Paris Conference that the main game is destroy capitalism (socialist description of free enterprise that is Menzies Liberal Party Australia policy since day one) and based on the business opportunities transition to renewable energy etc. Of course the left side of politics including the LINO left being similar to Labor right (as compared to Albanese Labor far left factions now in control) are into wealth creation and vested interests have been hanging around political parties ever since, and when they are not getting as much as they want they fund politicians who will lobby on their behalf if elected.

I’m sorry Dennis, whatever achievements the Liberals had have been superceded by the damage done since they ousted Abbott.
As we now know, these “conditions” were meaningless, and have been utterly breached, costing the nation billions, with the loss of whole industries, sovereign capability, security vulnerability etc. The Libs helped that destruction along. They put in the Net Zero Target. They installed the Safeguard mechanism. They voted for digital ID online. They allowed the Universities to prostitute themselves to foreign interests.
The world has changed, and voter loyalty has been burnt at the stake. It is irrelevant if One Nation only has a few seats, they got nearly three times the vote of the Liberals in the last byelection. The Libs tell themselves the ON seat numbers to make themselves feel better.

I follow politics and current affairs and it has been a hobby like interest since I was a teenager. Many observer commentators realise as I do that One Nation is polling very well in the popularity contest, they won a few seats in the South Australia State election but Labor was returned to government comfortably. They did not win the by election in Victoria, the Liberal candidate won and Teal backed by Union GetUp and Climate 200 was second place in votes received. Farrer One Nation won comfortably but consider the circumstances – Liberal MP re-elected 2025 resigned and left Parliament causing a by election one year after the national election, she was leader for less than a year and quickly made unpopular decisions including dumping policies taken to the 2025 election and getting National Party offside, a clash of leaders followed and soon both were replaced by their party MPs, Taylor two thirds vote majority and Canavan unopposed, both new leaders former Minister for Energy portfolio holders and both opposed to net zero emissions agenda and focused on returning our nation to self sufficiency and security, prosperity.
One Nation with now two only House of Representatives MP and four Senators cannot gain the minimum 76 electoral seats to form government 2028, or earlier maybe 2027.
By complaining about the Coalition the result for conservatives is what Labor PM Hawke once warned about when Labor was having problems – disunity is death in politics

Farrer by election National candidate received about 10% of the votes, not a National held electorate for many years past but was earlier,Tim Fisher was a very popular National MP.

Most of the prominent scientists who call CO2 warming a hoax are financially independent, like Dr Tom Quirk. Prof Ian Plimer. And more.
In the US, the most vocal critics are retired scientists. Judith Curry left the university and consults with corporations who want correct predictions and her story is the common and true one that the weather is determined by solar cycles and ocean cycles, the greatest source of heat and the greatest store of heat on the planet surface. And of course when the warmists are completely wrong, they blame the ocean currents anyway, El Nino/La Nina which covers half the planet.
So I consider most politicians simply main chancers. They know it’s all rubbish but they want votes and follow the Communist creed, tell people what they want to hear and when you get power, you do what you like. Career liars. Albanese has made this an art form, promising the world and breaking every promise and denying that he has. There is alway someone who believes you and the others would not vote for you anyway. But the biggest reason CO2 crap has survived is that both sides of politics push it. BREXIT was a classic case where the Tories were dead against it but it gave them power and they are still all besotted with the EU. And Climate Change.
And in the field of politics, major forces like Trump and Farage are financially independent. They don’t need the job. In all likelihood they really don’t want the job but there is no one else. As for Pauline Hanson, she did her time in Prison for even trying to get started as a political party. And all have had the Media against them, sneering, ridiculing. Pauline Pantsdown, favorite of their ABC. Now the US media are counting the days to the end of the Trump Presidency when they can bring Global Warming back and drive the US back into rapid decline, like California and Chicago and Seattle and New York. Murder, mayhem, violence, riots, drugs and poverty. No go zones. Like parts of Stockholm.
As for net zero, it’s really anti science. All equilibrium, like a see saw, all actual science is based on ratios, not arithmetic. Only a demented accountant could come up with Net zero. Do nothing, stay very, very still and hand over all your money.

Nor sure if this fellow is financially independent, but we can add him to the list.

Yes, he seems to run his own consulting business in computer software. Lives in Geneva, Switzerland. I don’t think poor people are allowed in Switzerland. Cheese, chocolote, Clocks, the three ‘C’s and millionaires. Capitalists and bankers.

Yes and No, Jo. I agree that conviction politicians are needed who argued consistently against Net Zero during the recent Dark Age. But the argument should not be conducted on economic grounds. It should be made on scientific grounds. Only that is robust enough to defeat the Climatistas. Arguments that ‘climate change due to CO2 is too expensive today’ will not rebut the idealism in teenagers that, channelled correctly, is a boon. Arguments that ‘climate change is nonsense’ will.

I know I repeat my comments, but I could not understand one specific fable/fairy story/parable, that of Henny Penny/Chicken Little, ‘the sky is falling’. Those were some stupid animals. Loosey Goosey. Henny Penny. Who would believe that? And hide in Foxy Loxy’s house?
But here we have it, 38 years of Al Gore’s ‘The sky is falling’ from billionaire Foxy Loxy himself.
And while NONE of “The Science” is actual science, it’s a massive industry and its destroying Australia and Europe. As intended. China took it over from Al Gore many years ago. But all those laws to steal from Australians were not China, they were our very own public servants in Canberra. And where did the billions go?

Here’s a small clue … Canberra has now got so big it has outgrown the ACT.

G’day Anton,
I suggest it’s worth starting with:
Ian Plimer’s “CO2 is plant food”;
and adding;
TdeF’s “atmospheric CO2 is in dynamic equilibrium with oceanic CO2”, assuming I’ve summarised him correctly.
Cheers,

I’ve recently realised that the US “right wing” would be in favour of Nut Zero for political reasons.
And then it all began to make sense: the way the science never mattered, nor the blatant nudging of the temperature data, and the total lack of push back from the right wing politicians and media … it all made sense.
The science never mattered, because it was never about the science. Hundreds and thousands of us could have marched naked to our respective parliaments demanding real science, and both left and right would have been happy to ignore us and every issue brought up by “sceptics”.
There was never any chance that Trump would do anything to stop the fiddling of the temperature data.

Somehow I don’t count grok as an ally.
Overall Assessment: The article usefully documents a political pivot in Australia amid rising energy reality checks and global populist shifts. It rightly slams ineffective centrism. However, its polemical style and demand for instant purity test risk missing pragmatic opportunities. Effective opposition requires detailed cost-benefit alternatives (e.g., nuclear, gas, pragmatic adaptation) alongside repeal—something hinted at but not deeply developed here. Net Zero’s economic and technical challenges are substantial and growing, making this a timely (if belated) debate.

Unlike many Western governments, Singapore largely focused on maintaining competitiveness rather than overburdening productive sectors with excessive bureaucracy or energy self-destruction policies.

They haven’t changed, they’re just trying to win back votes. It’s not the same thing, and it’s why the LNP has to go.
