Trump is now planning to take over French colonial territories in America, under the Monroe doctrine. The French colonies of French Guiana, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin, and Clipperton Island are to be freed from French colonialism, under the Monroe doctrine. This is in response to Macron sending French troops to Greenland in violation of the Monroe doctrine, to fight against the USA, in defence of Danish colonialism.
The anti-colonialist Starmer rules over seven British colonies on the American continent, but is more concerned about recruiting old white men, to fight against illegal immigrants, crossing the Ukrainian border.

How to promotee new thinking!
Should we “liberate” the Solomon Islands? What’s to stop us?
Ohyes!,
50
That would be a change. It wasn’t all that long ago that East Timor was given its independence.
On the other hand, aren’t the pacific islands all due to disappear due to Klimate Wierdness or whatever it is called this week.
170
Note to any Pacific Island nations who are about to abandon them because you were talked into thinking that they are about to be flooded, I am willing to purchase your (supposedly) soon-to-be-flooded islands for a minimal amount of money. Will pay $A cash or cowrie shells.
270
That would be a good deal. The Chinese would also be bidding. They, at least, still believe in facts unlike our PM and cabinet.
150
That’s because the CCP is behind much of the nonsense driving the western Left these days.
91
Great point David.
Akin to buying a gold mine for pennies on the dollar.
70
Here is the UNICEF propaganda about how Tuvalu will be:
Tuvalu is made up of atolls and reef islands and has an average elevation of 1.8m.
Regardless of supposed sea level rise or not, it was an extremely stupid place to build a country on a temporary geological structure like that. It is bound to sink or wash away at any moment.
Warmists wouldn’t and don’t understand that because they think the earth is static and unchanging.
161
Tuvalu is growing in land area.
50
World politics and geo-colonialism has been reduced to a board game. Maybe we could call it “Monropoly”.
BTW – the Monroe Doctrine was obeyed by the Europeans according to the this clip.
40
Wasn’t it called “Risk”?
There was a comment in a recent Coffee and Covid newsletter that the key to winning in that was to hold Alaska, Greenland and Venezuela. Just saying!
31
The world would cheer if he invaded Haiti, too easy.

This is how Orwell saw the future cut up, how accurate was he?

More or less correct except our present Australian Government is more ideologically aligned with Eastasia than Oceania.
80
Yep, we’ll be part of the Global South.
Not an outpost of empire, free and independent states doing a healthy trade under the BRICS umbrella.
Europe will bring the Kremlin to its knees, but this time around the West will intervene to avoid the rise of another demagogue. Encouraging the different states to flourish under capitalism is a first step towards democracy and rule of law.
Orwell never imagined that China would become a super power.
07
“Europe will bring the Kremlin to its knees”
Laughable, Europe is barely functional. Is this before or after the Caliphate is declared?
190
We must be reading different propaganda, the only threat to Europe is a madman in Moscow blowing up a nuclear power plant.
Europe might look like a basket case now, but after the war the situation should stabilise. Monies spent on military hardware should slow to a trickle.
06
Yes we read very different sources. The only threat to Europe is itself and the loonies in Brussels. Europe looks like basket case because it is. It’s exactly what they have created.
I hope they recover but they won’t be bringing anyone to their knees this century. Their time has past.
110
So who’s going to protect Europe in the future?
The europeans shirked their financial responsibilities re defence for decades.
Are you saying they should revert to spending virtually nothing for the defence of their countries?
This is lunacy.
50
‘So who’s going to protect Europe in the future?’
Without any enemies the EU will return to prewar levels of expenditure.
03
‘Their time has past.’
The EU could break up after the war, which would be a good thing, independent states trading with the rest of the world without cumbersome restrictions.
11
Yes the EU experiment has failed.
When we lived in Switzerland in the early 2000s , a leaflet appeared annually in the letterbox from a group that opposed Switzerland joining the EU. It was sort of a scorecard of EU stuff ups an the impact it would have had on Switzerland. If it still exists now they would be having a field day
61
‘but this time around the West will intervene to avoid the rise of another….country they can’t control!
They’ve been doing it to the rest of the world since the 1800s, and is the world any better off? I’d say the exploitation of third-world countries and the rape of their minerals under some Western stooge Govt seems to be the norm..
12
In 1991 the USSR collapsed and the West did nothing, this time they will offer the states the opportunity to accept BRICS or Swift.
We have to walk away from the past and start afresh, Donnie has been the catalyst for change and we should thank him for that.
43
But most likely the Middle Kingdom.
30
A quarry and tourist destination.
02
The Middle Kingdom is isolationist and that is imbedded in the culture.
01
Yeah, nah. Apart from the surrender-monkeys (French), even those European nations that were once great powers have self castrated. Their ‘military’ powers are a joke.
Another excuse to quote John Cleese:
“The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Syria and have therefore raised their security level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit Cross.” The English have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from “Tiresome” to “A Bloody Nuisance.” The last time the British issued a “Bloody Nuisance” warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.
The Scots have raised their threat level from “Pissed Off” to “Let’s get the Bastards.” They don’t have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.
The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from “Run” to “Hide.” The only two higher levels in France are “Collaborate” and “Surrender.” The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France ‘s white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country’s military capability.
Italy has increased the alert level from “Shout Loudly and Excitedly” to “Elaborate Military Posturing.” Two more levels remain: “Ineffective Combat Operations” and “Change Sides.”
The Germans have increased their alert state from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs.” They also have two higher levels: “Invade a Neighbour” and “Lose.”
Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels .
The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.
181
Brilliant Monty Python humour. The Australian navy may be able to replace the Spanish navy in that skit in the near future.
10
“Europe will bring the Kremlin to its knees”
I guess when Russia gives thanks for Europe completing the “fuster”?
30
‘This word is now obsolete. It is last recorded around the early 1600s.’
Are you referring to Victoria Nuland’s exploits?
02
wal1957:
The expenditure by the UK from 1934-1938 on military matters was higher than Germany.
As someone noted the Germans spent their money on arnaments whereas the British spent it on Public Servants.
Not quite true, but the Germans decided on what they wanted whereas the British fought among themselves for their own patch. e.g. the anti-aircraft group insisted on their own (rather good) tractors for their (high angled) guns. They resisted any effort to use their 90 mm guns against tanks, whereas the Germans use the same models for both uses.
10
FWIW
The Haynes “Rolls Royce Merlin Workshop manual” notes that Chamberlain “argued the case for rapid rearmament in parallel, with particular emphasis on aircraft production”.
in which time Merlin “shadow factories” were set up at Crewe and Hillington as were other “shadow factories”
10
And the scouting of manufacture at Ford and Packard got rolling
10
The deal with Ford (USA) didn’t go ahead but Ford (UK) “was under no such notion of neutrality” and “produced a total of30,428 Merlins at Manchester”

What was it Patton was supposed to have said?
I’d rathler have two German divisions in front of me than one French division behind me.

Does anyone have a link to an article about the IPCC change from no cause/effect of humans on climate change, to an official position that humans cause climate change?
I have a vague memory of a Climate Audit account in which a US official at AR2 or AR3 disregarded to position and made a unilateral announcement in a dirty business manner.
I am reluctant to accept that the Blob has succeeded in burying it. I have done a lot of searching, no result, maybe I am using wrong search inputs. Ta. Geoff s
121
Interesting.
I always thought the entire purpose of the IPCC from its very inception was to manufacture evidence no matter how flimsy that CO2 was the global temperature control knob. And to bury any contrary evidence regardless of the truth of the matter.
Put another way you may not be able to narrow it down to one US official doing one dirty act. My recollection is that it was all of them all of the time.
140
Let’s start with this “expert”:
“We need to get some broad based support, to capture the public’s imagination…So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements and make little mention of any doubts…Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest.”
Prof. Stephen Schneider, , Stanford Professor of Climatology, lead author of many IPCC reports
Or:
“Kevin and I will keep (skeptic papers) out (of IPCC) somehow – even if we have to redefine what peer-review literature is”
Phil Jones – Climategate emails.
Perhaps:

One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. “In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill….All these dangers are caused by human intervention . . . and thus the “real enemy, then, is humanity itself . . . humanity requires a common motivation, namely a common adversary in order to realize world government. It does not matter if this common enemy is a real one or . . . one invented for the purpose.”

Government in the future will be based upon . . . a supreme office of the biosphere. The office will comprise specially trained philosopher/ecologists. Effective execution of Agenda 21 [since rebadged as Agenda 2030] will require a profound reorientation of all human society, unlike anything the world has ever experienced, a major shift in the priorities of both governments and individuals and an unprecedented redeployment of human and financial resources. This shift will demand that a concern for the environmental consequences of every human action be integrated into individual and collective decision-making at every level.
Quote attributed to US President George H W Bush at UNCED (Rio Conference), Rio de Janerio, Brazil, 3-14 June 1992.
For those who don’t know Agenda 21 (since rebadged as Agenda 2030) is a comprehensive plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the United Nations System, Governments, and Major Groups in every area in which humans impact on the environment. Agenda 21, along with the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the Statement of principles for the Sustainable Management of Forests were adopted by more than 178 Governments at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED, also referred to as Rio Conference), held in Rio de Janerio, Brazil, 3-14 June 1992
“In this day nation states must today – should today, I say – be ready to give up sovereignty.”
From a speech given by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, speaking at a Konrad Adenauer Foundation event about Parliamentarianism Between Globalisation and National Sovereignty, November 2018.
(Angela Merkel: ex STAST operative, trained by “reformed” nazi Abwehr agents? That Angela Merkel?)
The UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a radical plan for a global “Green New Deal” to redistribute trillions of dollars by capping wealth and introducing a global minimum rate of tax.

Anybody else seeing a bit of “convergence of interest” here?
“Climate change deniers, and those shamelessly peddling pseudoscience and misinformation, are perpetuating ideas that will ultimately destroy the planet. As a publisher, giving them a voice on our site contributes to a stalled public discourse. That’s why the editorial team in Australia is implementing a zero-tolerance approach to moderating climate change deniers, and sceptics. Not only will we be removing their comments, we’ll be locking their accounts. We believe conversations are integral to sharing knowledge, but those who are fixated on dodgy ideas in the face of decades of peer-reviewed science are nothing but dangerous. It is counter productive to present the evidence and then immediately undermine it by giving space to trolls. The hopeless debates between those with evidence and those who fabricate simply stalls action.”
Misha Ketchell,
editor of the (mostly) publicly funded: The Conversation, which prides itself on its Academic rigor and journalistic flair.

It’s worthwhile noting that when these international climate conferences were first setup, many genuine scientists, experts in their field, were invited and became involved, seeking to expand their subject knowledge. Then they realised that despite their scientific inputs, the statements generated were NOT representative of the prevailing body of opinion, and were only interested in pursuing political goals. So they withdrew from any involvement.
90
IIRC didn’t Ben Santer have something to do with it?
Rewriting the conclusions of the IPCC Committee that had originally said that there was no significant human impact.
I see that he is still fighting his corner at Woods Hole.
10
>IPCC change from no cause/effect of humans on climate change, to an official position that humans cause climate change?
I haven’t seen the article and I wasn’t aware of any change. As far as I know the attribution to human causation was an initial core assumption.
It’s in their blood.
I consulted DeepSeek which provided the following:
60
Another, if it were needed, reason to defund the UN. It has been unable to stop one war or skirmish in its long and useless history but now seeks to control the weather. We should know by now that the UN has become an extension of World Communism. In the land of communism lies are an acceptable way of achieving a desirable end. The climate scam relies on telling lies and having gullible fools who believe them, people like Bowen and Albo. Others, like Al Gore and Twiggy, know they are lies but use them to their advantage.
160
I can’t answer your question GS but this quote from the IPCC climate change First Assessment Report and 1992 Supplement indicates that the panel had a more objective attitude in the early 90s. I can’t imagine them making a statement like the one below nowadays:
I skimmed through the initial sections of the report. Interestingly, CO2 is not singled out as the main driver of climate change, it seems untainted by Mann’s hockey stick narrative. There is probably a point in time after 1992 when CO2 became the chief culprit for climate crimes.
https://www.ipcc.ch/site/assets/uploads/2018/05/ipcc_90_92_assessments_far_full_report.pdf
10
Earlier than that. In June 1988 a worldwide UN conference was setup by Bert Bolin and Maurice Strong, where agreement was reached that efforts should be made to reduce CO2 emissions. Booker’s book, referenced above, details each step to the formation of the IPCC by Bolin and Strong.
50
Geoff, the lead author of AR2 Chapter 8 was Ben Santer. He was the person that rejected all, or mostly all, of the scientific papers and re-wrote Chapter 8 himself. A good book that details all the machinations that went on in the IPCC is “The real global warming disaster: Is the obsession with climate change turning out to be the most costly scientific blunder in history”, by Christopher Booker.
71
Others that were involved in justifying Santer’s re-write were Timothy Wirth, Sir John Houghton, Stephen Schneider and of course Al Gore. Even Nature at the time said that they were concerned about what had happened.
40
I keep seeing some advert for an AI suite that will supposedly help you run your business better by harvesting “intelligence” from emails, phone call logs etc..
The increasing reliance of businesses (and others like Government departments or military) to do their thinking for them is a serious concern, especially as most younger people seem to believe whatever AI says. (And even worse for DEI hires who may want to make up for their deficits by extensive use of AI.)
AI is not infallablile and is also known to “hallucinate” or make up answers.
Back in the day, people were familiar with the concept of GIGO, Garbage In Garbage Out. Seemingly forgotten today, along with critical thinking skills.
It should only be used sparingly when you have enough knowledge to know when an answer is plausible or not just aa you would if you looked up any conventional information source that you trusted.
310
Yes. I’ve seen similar. There’s a sucker born every minute.
In time the herd will figure out that the so called AI is nothing more than probabilistic pattern matching to guess the most likely next word.
It has no way of distinguishing between truth and falsehood. If 10 people have said that 2 + 2 = 5 then that’s what it will spit out. When corrected it will apologize and agree that 2 + 2 is really 7 if that’s what you want it to say.
And as you say David. That can’t be good.
210
Scams and snake oil just move with the times.
AI is the current one.
On par with Windows Registry cleaners, they extract cash from the naive quite well.
80
The company I used to work for, (foreceably made redundant, with only 4 years to retirement, well 4 years to pension age!) I was recently speaking to one of my ex work colleagues, and they said they were testing AI to see if it could be used to support their role, as well as others in the team. Apparently the roles they have AI was unable to do, that’s the thing with quality roles, there’s not much AI could do, as quality needs feet on the ground and eyes out in the production floor to ensure quality standards are being met. AI may be able to help with developing quality processes, but these are typically company specific, so it would be very basic.

For Vitamin D / magenesium consumers, what is the right ratio of Vitamin D to magnesium?
Mg is needed for vitamin D binding and to maintain calcium balance as it increases absorption of Ca.
Of course, such approaches ignore what might already be in your diet or the amount of Vit D produced by your body.
NOT MEDICAL ADVICE, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH.
https://youtu.be/ARefzHcbF7s
140
Thanks David,
Sounds good.
While I knew Vitamin D and magnesium are cofactors, I’d not seen any quantification of their relationship. Very glad to hear his mention of “cofactors”.
And I’d not seen any suggestion that zinc was a cofactor of vitamin D although I learnt of its importance from Dr Zelensky back in Covid’s early days.
I liked his presentation about blood levels of D, but was disappointed he didn’t mention vitamin C (although he may have covered it elsewhere?)

Zelenko.
Sorry.

Lancet has just published a study refuting FDA/RFK claims that paracetamol/Tylenol/acetaminophen use during pregnancy may be responsible for autism.
Thoughts?
81
Thought 1: I am very skeptical of the evidence that Tylenol is linked to autism.
Thought 2: I lost all respect for the Lancet when it fell hook, line and sinker for the Proximal Origins paper in 2020.
Therefore, I am very skeptical of BOTH claims.
210
Maybe all the studies should be considered rather than focusing on a single one?, you know, like scientists do.
48
Agreed. Better yet would be to look at the scientific merit of the various studies as well.
130
Who is focusing on just one study Ponzi?
The original report claiming an association between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism examined 54 different studies of which 27 reported a positive correlation with autism, 9 null and 4 negative.
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12351903/
The latest Lancet paper examined 43 studies and used 17 in a meta-analysis.
Most people lost trust in The Lancet after their support of the Official Narrative during covid. E.g. publication of a paper claiming no benefit of hydroxchloroquine for early stage covid treatment (taken according to appropriate protocols). Huge numbers of people would have died because of lack of access to that treatment as promoted by Dr Zelenko and the protocol he established and successfully used for treatment. And that was even before any “covid vaccine” was available, so there was nothing to lose as HCQ is regarded as an extremely safe drug, whether such treatment was effective or not.
At least they eventually withdrew the paper but the damage was done.
https://www.thelancet.com/article/S0140-6736(20)31180-6/fulltext
180
The initial report is now highly questionable due to subsequent new data, that’s science for you. The great majority of studies can’t show a link.
Why the eagerness to prove a link?, nothing to do with the great orange savior ?
17
Naa. A scientific consensus is often very wrong. Gastric ulcers were caused by stress. The cure was no hurry, no worry, no curry. Total medical consensus. That is until one guy said no you are all wrong. Gastric ulcers are caused by a bacterial infection. Vilified as wrong by the “establishment”. Who’d a thunk it. Stars suffer one nova event at the end of their life. One guy stands up and says no. Stars can have a recurrent micro nova. The establishment says you are barking and keep your silly ideas to yourself. About 5 years later – ooh look what we have found. Stars can have a recurrent micro nova. Aren’t we clever. No such thing as continental drift. Just one crackpot’s theory. Ohh look, we just discovered plate tectonics. 100 scientists against Einstein. “One did not need the word of 100 scientists, just one fact” . Astrophysics is littered with entrenched ideology. Unicorns and dragons are about as valid an explanation as cold dark matter and cold dark energy. I could go on. The idea is not to look at the number of people, but take a good look at the theory. As soon as the “consensus” word comes out you know you are dealing with ideology over facts, pay cheques over scientific integrity and egos over rationality.
250
Well said Welwala.
Any “science” that’s done by “consensus” is not science, it’s politics.
190
So much for the theory of evolution, for example, the consensus is almost universal !.
The consensus results from the facts , Dave , where are yours ?.
012
I thought David had clearly indicated that consensus is not a scientific construct but a political one. It’s worthwhile looking at Richard Feynman’s lectures where he explains what science is really about. And it certainly ain’t consensus. So I’m not sure where or how “facts” enters this discussion.
110
Consensus is regularly used to convey overwhelming evidence, read Feynman further.
011
Re “Consensus is regularly used to convey overwhelming evidence”
And attempted overwhelming propaganda
70
Scientific consensus.
‘ … a claim that meets the burden of proof by proposing a possible cause-and-effect mechanism supported by the totality of evidence, leading to agreement among experts.’ (wiki)
The cause and effect, if you take CO2 out of the equation its possible to see that natural variability rules, we are still coming out of the LIA.
40
Even in the media consensus is a red flag for BS. When the ABC rolls out their go to “experts” and agree with the headline narrative , you can be pretty sure its just the propaganda mill one more time.
40
Especially, if it is one bristlecone pine tree.

“Trump blamed autism on this pain pill. Now, the gold-standard evidence is in”
Seems that one study is the ‘gold-standard’..according to the SMH. Trump and Kennedy used two papers that showed a weak correlation.
“Trump (wrongly) warned pregnant women not to take paracetamol”
“Trump’s false claim didn’t take hold because it was rejected swiftly and bluntly by health bodies…“It will have some effect but I don’t expect in Australia the impact on pregnant people to be massive,” said Leask, an expert in vaccine hesitancy.”
The propaganda wars are intense these days. Just “Trump is bad” on everything, and our local experts are faultless.

Is there any other type of pregnant people apart from women (XX)?
The “woke” is strong in that reporter.
230
I am interested to hear from the resident Leftists as to what other type of “pregnant people” there are apart from XX genotype females.
150
Why the fixation with trans people?, have they done anything to you ?.
110
No fixation.
I was inquiring about “pregnant people”.
What other type of “pregnant people” are there apart from XX genotype females?
It’s the Left who are obsessed with “trans” people and constantly telling us biological absurdities like “women can have penises” and “men can have babies” and Australia’s sex discrimination commissioner not being able to explain what a woman is.
So again:
What other type of person than an XX genotype female can be pregnant?
140
No Dave, look back at your history and you’d have to realize you’ve got a real thing going on there .
012
You are still ignoring the question.
110
Such a dumb question Dave, only women can have babies.
In the old days you’d be kicking the gays.
09
You keep ignoring my questions, like, where’s your reviewed evidence Dave ?.
09
You’re lying and defaming as usual Ponzi.
I guess Leftists have no other argument than ad hominem attacks.
And gays were not the issue. And I wouldn’t never have attacked them. Liar.
80
Your non stop drivel about the ‘leftists’ isn’t ad hom ?.
You still can’t provide evidence against AGW
08
‘You still can’t provide evidence against AGW.’
Industrial CO2 output is minuscule compared to the natural outgassing from the oceans, as temperatures warm.
Paleo climate history is unequivocal on this question, the increase in CO2 follows a rise in temperature.
100
A Crocodile Dundee moment perhaps? 😆
20
Surely you mean Crying Game moment ?
17
Possibly because politicians, civil servants, the media and even medical bureaucrats have been pushing the idea that imaginary genders are real for several years now.
30
Are “pregnant pauses” still allowed?
(DDG Search Assist
A “pregnant pause” refers to a moment of silence that suggests something significant is about to follow. It is often used in conversation or storytelling to create anticipation.
Wiktionary ogmagazine.org.au)
I guess that might be The Lancet between retractions?

NZ’s ex-President used that term, ‘gold standard’, far too often in her daily diatribes, eventually becoming “an expert in vaccine hesitancy” as flocks of folk gathered outside parliament shouting NO. Oddly, she jumped ship and ran away overseas before being pushed/voted out of office… good riddance.
140
Yeah, while claiming she had ‘..no petrol left in the tank..’ Turns out she had just enough to get herself to the U.N.
70
..and seeing its all downhill under the UN she doesn’t need petrol in the tank, she will just coast from now on…
40
Sorry David, meant green. I never touch the stuff now. It gave me chest pains 3 times in one year when medics, dentists recommended it for various problems. Aspirin is much better for me.
30
Is anyone familiar with the movie Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970) about a rogue AI?
Well, the real Colossus 2 built by xAI / Elon Mudk is about to become the world’s first GW size training cluster.
It is expected to come online in April 2026 and will consume up to 1,563 MW.
It produces its own power on-site with natural gas gas turbines, plus a former Duke Energy power plant, it also uses Tesla Megapacks (batteries) for extra power during peak loads and also uses a grid connection.
Note to Australian Government (who claim Australia can become a renewables-powered AI superpower and renewables superpower/stupidpower), it does not run on wind or solar because that would be economically and practically impossible. And stupid. https://www.renewableinstitute.org/australian-government-consider-mandatory-ai-investment-in-renewable-energy/
Note: There is a plan to build a 100 MW nameplate solar farm in future to help power Colossus 2 but I assume that would just for subsidy harvesting and virtue signaling. It will contribute very little. The real power for Colossus 2 comes from proper gas power plant.
170
As with most things I am right behind private enterprise using its own money to power itself however it sees fit. If they want to install solar panels as a power source then good for them. Same for using batteries to time shift intermittent power.
My personal reservations around Musk centre on the government contract work and taxpayer subsidies he attracts.

“Update on Australian NetZero efforts”
“People have queried what is happening in Australia with their push for a decarbonised all renewables/ Net Zero grid since the last update in 2023. The answer is not much progress but massive amounts of money spent.
Renewable power has gone up to 9% of energy consumption, but energy productivity and intensity trends are flattening out. Power prices have risen above the rate of inflation and there is near terminal de-industrialisation. Despite massive LNG exports, there is a gas shortage, including for power stations. Biomass still provided more energy than wind and only a little less than solar. Most energy production is exported – the coal and gas shipments that people don’t want to be reminded of as that pays for the virtue signalling. The promised nirvana of cheap plentiful carbon-free power is probably further away now than it was then. Reality is just so cruel to the idealistic dreamers. Probably best summed up by a quote from Nick Cater “Sadly, our climate and energy policy remains in the grip of an intelligentsia that lacks the wisdom to recognise the boundaries of its own ignorance”. ”

“Screw Your Comfort: How Nature Became a Nagging Preacher”
“There was a time when publication in Nature signaled restraint. Not correctness, not consensus, but seriousness: an awareness of uncertainty, an allergy to grand prescriptions, and a reluctance to turn provisional findings into marching orders. That version of Nature treated science as a method, not a ministry.
The version now publishing climate-policy optimization exercises like “Large carbon dioxide emissions avoidance potential in improved commercial air transport efficiency” operates very differently. It does not merely describe the world. It scolds it. It does not explore trade-offs. It resolves them in advance. It does not ask whether its preferred objectives are justified. It assumes they are, and then works backward to discipline behavior accordingly.”

“Australia’s social media watchdog cannot confirm she would be safe from prosecution if she returns to the US following her social media crackdown, as the US Congress demands she testify about her attempts to mount a “global censorship regime”.”
Maybe Trump will do a Maduro for us to get rid of her… She’s already dodging any responsibility for what she did-
““We’re engaging with chairman Jordan and the committee, and no, no determination has been made yet. But I think I’ll defer to the government. [Jordan has] asked me questions about my regulatory role, but he also has expressed concerns about the policies and laws of this country, of which I’m not the right person to, I guess, carry the water on those things,”
101
The fake conservative Liberal Party appointed e Safety Kommissar is indeed responsible for most of Australia’s censorship policies and has been a zealot for censorship at talks to the WEF and elsewhere. She has gone way above and beyond the expectations of Labor/Liberal/Green censorship wishes.
The US Congress wrote to her in her capacity as a US citizen and global censorship advocate:

While ‘man on the street’ videos of that sort are entertaining, they are not representative of anything other than the handful of morons that make the final cut. For all we know, that gal interviewed hundreds of people and has hours of footage, but only included the dumbest responses in that 4 minute clip.
Plus, some of that was a bit on the ‘gotcha’ side. I might blank on the ‘what anniversary is coming up?’ question, because we don’t really mark 9/11 as a national day of remembrance or anything like that. So I can see how a kid who wasn’t born when it happened would struggle to come up with that off the top of their head, just like I would have struggled to come up with the ‘important anniversary before Thanksgiving’ (JFK assassination on 11/22/1963) if someone asked me because that happened a few years before I was born. My parents generation had that date seared into their brain. My generation … not so much.

Pretty common really, its just the “before my time” syndrome.
I was reading the other day that the recent Longwood fire in VIC was “unprecedented” its like the 2009 fire that destroyed multiple towns and took 173 lives never even happened. Yeah, we ‘muricans struggle with the international usage of the term liberal.
I think that’s because up until the end of the Cold War, the left really didn’t have any representation in the American two-party system. Democrats were left-liberal (in the international sense) and Republicans were right-liberal, with the far-left and far-right being completely locked out of positions of power. Over the last 30 years, Democrats have sprinted left to embrace socialists and borderline communists, while Republicans have pretty much stood pat. The result is left-liberals are now kind of out in the cold, and can either bunker down with their former opposition or become independents.
Adding to the confusion is the fact that our mainstream press identifies anything to the right of Pol Pot as ‘far-right’. They call Trump far right, but honestly, he’s a triangulating 1990s Clinton Democrat on most non-economic issues. Go back and listen to some of Clinton’s speeches on immigration and crime and you will hear almost verbatim the same stuff Trump says. On economics, he’s more of a Reagan type, who wants to slash regulation to the bone, slash government spending to the bone, slash taxes, and do anything/everything he can do juice economic growth, jobs, and wages.
91
Thanks Steve, insightful, what do you think of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani?
He refers to himself as a Social Democrat, but others might see him as a borderline communist.
10
We’ll have to wait and see how he governs, but in terms of rhetoric he has multiple tweets and youtube clips prior to running for office where he spouts ideas directly pulled from the Communist Manifesto and Mao’s little red book. He has literally talked about seizing the means of production. And many of his appointees are cut from the same radical cloth (Google Cea Weaver).
Fortunately, the job of New York City mayor is largely constrained in what it can do by the state legislature and governor in Albany NY, so he’s not going to be able to implement many of his silliest ideas. I suspect he’ll be a failure as mayor, but not as catastrophic as many on the right think he will be.

There is a major polar vortex disruption taking place and the Beast from the East is expected in Europe very soon.
22
Yes, 40C is much more preferable to freezing in the dark as the anti-energy lobby would have for us.
When I was in Israel last August it got as high as 49.7C (121.5F) which I found to be surprisingly tolerable when outdoors, although indoors and vehicles were air conditioned of course.
Israel has three windfarms. I saw the Genesis Wind Project in the Golan Heights, 207MW nameplate. As usual, a terrible blight on a beautiful landscape There are at least serious attempts to protect bird and bat life. A 161kV power line was buried underground for 27km plus there is radar to detect birds and the turbines automatically shut down. (Radar-Assisted Shut Down On Demand (RASOD).) Israel is part of a major bird migration path between Europe, Asia and Africa. An excellent place for bird watching e.g. Hula Valley for water birds, Eilat for passerines and raptor type birds.

I won’t give you a thumbs down for liking 40+ days. I absolutely hate the heat. Prefer nothing over 20, but then I don’t think I’d enjoy endless -30 etc. 15-20 is ideal for me. Not a heat lover but I love swimming and summer thunderstorms – which have been very lacking this summer.
20
More like preferring them instead of minus 10C or lower. I’m most comfortable at +25C.
Heard from drillers that worked in extreme minus environments who used to compose their names in yellow liquid that snap froze on walls for their amusement.

This was on another blog some time ago. The reporter’s brother was a heavy lift chopper pilot who was moving a rig on the wrong side of the Arctic Circle. Temperatures in F –
IIRC
Outside the crew tent at night it was -53
Inside it was -43.
The chopper was only certified to -40 so they had to wait till it warmed up to start work
And they had 3 hours of daylight
10
A long time ago, when we could collaborate, I did a training course with some Russians who were waiting to be mobilised for a drilling campaign (oil and gas). They were waiting for enough ice to build up so their rigs could be moved safely.
Other colleagues/friends have been based in Tyumen and Sakhalin, always with stories to tell about the ridiculous weather.
I haven’t worked in extreme cold, only extreme heat, tropics, and North Sea equivalent conditions. They all have their downsides, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

The massive bank bailout you didn’t hear about
The Federal Reserve has quietly delivered nearly half a trillion dollars to Wall Street with few strings attached over the past few months through an obscure government financial program intended for banks struggling to make cash payments.
These cash infusions could signal instability in the broader financial sector — and come as the central bank is besieged by potentially market-rattling turmoil following the Trump administration’s launch of a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

Thoughts of a Sunday afternoon
“Mosquitos and Detection by Radar
Detection of the de Havilland Mosquito
Design Advantages: The de Havilland Mosquito was primarily made of wood, which is a poor conductor of electricity. This material choice contributed to a lower radar signature compared to metal aircraft.
Radar Returns: The Mosquito’s design, including its smaller cross-section and rounded fuselage, resulted in a significantly reduced radar return. This made it harder for radar systems, like the German Freya radar, to detect.
Impact on Operations
Operational Success: The Mosquito’s combination of speed, agility, and lower radar detectability allowed it to perform various roles effectively, including bombing and reconnaissance missions.
Countermeasures: While the Mosquito’s stealth was not a primary design goal, it became a significant operational advantage, allowing it to evade enemy radar detection more successfully than many other aircraft of the time.”
