We have to achieve Net Zero first.

Humans are resilient, but the demographics aren’t looking too good.

The big take out of this paper, stem cell therapy improves the reproductive potential of monkeys and presumably humans.

The linked article starts off saying that biblical characters from the old testament lived many hundreds of years, so why don’t we.
Ancient people measured lived age by life events, often by lunar cycles and other ways.
When you have an agrarian society the moon cycles rule along with the seasons.
So those long lives could be divided by 12 or 4.
    At 71, I could be 284 or 852.
That said, I would like to live a long life without the cellular decay, but I suppose by world standards I already am.

The “4 seasons” concept appears to be more recent than biblical characters. Moon cycles did play a vital role for ancients. With 13 per year, Methuselah, who is said to have lived for 969 years, would have reached about 75. With this in mind, you are older than Methuselah! Congratulations.

Genesis 5:21 “When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah.”
‭‭65 divided by 13….Kinda rules out the lunar cycles interpretation.

Genesis 6:3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.”
120 divided by 4….There goes the 4 seasons.

The only thing miraculous in all this is that they lived so long without a single booster shot!

Ben Lewis, stage actor including lead in Phantom of the Opera, passed yesterday from bowel cancer at the age of 46. Thoughts and prayers to the ones affected by this tragedy.

Now the tough love: His wife Home and Away actress Melle Stewart, when aged 40, suffered a stroke two weeks after her first AstraZeneca jab. Her story including her long road to recovery and decision to sue for compensation was covered in this 9NEWS 2023 report which the DM story on Ben’s passing also links to.

The 9NEWS story includes claims that:
While Stewart remains pro-vaccination and continues to plan to have booster jabs, she wants compensation for her horror ordeal.
      And
The couple say they remain pro-vaccination – even booking booster jabs next week.

It would appear from the booster appointment comment that Ben would have taken an initial shot and was prepared to continue with boosters.

Further to JC II ‘s comment about A.I., yesterday I watched a video of someone asking two different AI (ChatGPT and Claude , from memory) the same question , and got two completely opposite answers.

The question was ” was Charlie Kirk killed by zionists?”

Curiously, I can no longer find the video , which apparently was immediately banned on the “U.S. Tik tok” channel.

Clearly AI can “select” what it wants to consider. Or is trained to do so.

Reminds me of the university paid “scientists”question to the funders of their “research” :- ” what would you like the result to be?”

    Nothing about current affairs etc.

On their way to the church to get married, a young Catholic couple
were involved in a fatal car accident.

Being good Catholics the young couple find themselves sitting outside
the Pearly Gates waiting for St. Peter to process them into Heaven.

While waiting, they begin to wonder: could they possibly get married in
    Heaven?

When St. Peter finally showed up, they asked him.

St Peter said “I don’t know. This is the first time anyone has asked.
Let me go find out” and he leaves them sitting at the Gate.

After three months, St Peter finally returns, looking somewhat
bedraggled. “Yes” he informs the couple ” I can get you married in
    Heaven”.

“Great!” said the couple “But we were just wondering, what if things
don’t work out? Could we also get a divorce in Heaven?”

“You must be bloody joking” says St. Peter, red-faced with
frustration, slamming his clipboard on the ground.

“What’s wrong?” asked the frightened couple”.

“OH, COME ON!” St. Peter shouted “It took me three months to find a
priest up here…..do you have any idea how long it’ll take me to find
    a lawyer?”

Two travelling salesmen drive into a small Irish village and one screams for the other who is driving to stop the car. He then leaps out of the car and races into the village church where he enters the confessional and states “Forgive me Father for I have sinned. I have been with a married woman.”

The priest responds “Would that be Mary O’Driscol on Chester Street up to her old tricks again?” “No Father” replies the salesman. “Oh dear Mother of God! Kathleen O’Dowd on Drury Lane hasn’t been tempted again has she?” “No father”. Having failed in his guesses the priest says “Stop your sinful ways, 20 Hail Marys and be off with you”.

The salesman leaves the confessional and races back to the car where the incredulous driver comments “Patrick, I didn’t know you were so religious”. “I’m not” replies Patrick, “I just got us two hot dates for tomorrow night”.

Apparently , content generated by A.I is banned on tik tok.

The meaning of “generated” seems to be deliberately ambiguous; that would explain the discrepancy described in my comment.

Is the person who asks AI a question the generator , or is it AI itself?

It’s not what it used to be since they stopped using the same family sedans Joe and Joanne Six-pack could buy off the showroom floor.

And when we had Australian manufacturing which actually made most of the cars used.

I used to attend, back in the day. Now it means almost nothing to me.

It’s still Mt Panorama to me, not Wahluu. I wonder how long before it’s declared a native sacred site and tribute is required to be paid or racing and other activities banned? (It’s already a sacred site for the settler population.)

Here is a look at the race by American NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip from 13 years ago. https://youtu.be/kLkLtBkUVuo

I drove a new Holden EH sedan on dealer trade number plates in the 1960s, a Bathurst special edition and a couple of hundred build by GMH to meet race requirements.

How times have changed, that EH had sintered trim brake linings and a power booster, twin carburettors, exhaust system modifications, heavier shock absorbers and spring rating but not much different to a production in line six engine sedan.

I drove it from Sydney GMH factory to a country dealership.

FWIW – Scribbling over “common knowledge”

“President Trump is making markers great again. Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal ran a delightful and timely story headlined, “Sharpie Found a Way to Make Pens More Cheaply—By Manufacturing Them in the U.S.” The subheadline added, “Newell Brands moved production without cutting employee count or raising prices.” For my entire adult life, I was told this kind of thing was impossible. The writing was on the wall. They said: America just can’t compete with lower Chinese labor costs.”

China is aging rapidly. In just 25 years, China will have the oldest median age of any country on Earth at 54yrs. USA is aging slower due to its immigration and desirability for high tech workers. USA median age is currently 1 year lower than China and ageing at a slower rate.

So China is facing a productivity wall. Aged care will be an increasing factor in China.

Pre ’66, in the old money, in Aussie slang “a dollar” was 5 bob ie 50c now. This was a throwback to the war when GIs could spend their green freely. Taxi drivers, shopkeepers etc used an exchange of 4 to a pound. I’m sure there was a little fat on the side for the trader but the Yanks were rich and found the price acceptable.

At the current exchange [long term, rule of thumb] of 66.6c/US$ we have depreciated 66.6% during my lifetime.

Yesterday I asked it to check something about delay-and-sum acoustic beamforming and it got the relative delay of the microphones the opposite of what it is meant fo be. I pointed out its error and it agreed it was wrong and it apologised.

France’s Le Maire resigns hours after Prime Minister steps down

France’s former finance minister, Bruno Le Maire, who was appointed head of the Ministry of the Armed Forces on Sunday, announced his resignation less than 24 hours after taking the job, amid ongoing political turmoil that rattled stocks and bonds in Paris on Monday.

Bloomberg noted, “President Emmanuel Macron’s decision late Sunday to return Le Maire to a ministerial post, in charge of defense, sparked a political backlash, including from within the administration.”

By Monday evening, Le Maire wrote on X that President Macron accepted his resignation and expressed hope that his departure would help efforts to form a new government, reaffirming his ongoing commitment to serving France and the public interest

Deloitte will refund Australian government for AI hallucination-filled report

The Australian Financial Review reports that Deloitte Australia will offer the Australian government a partial refund for a report that was littered with AI-hallucinated quotes and references to nonexistent research.

Deloitte’s “Targeted Compliance Framework Assurance Review” was finalized in July and published by Australia’s Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) in August (Internet Archive version of the original). The report, which cost Australian taxpayers nearly $440,000 AUD (about $290,000 USD), focuses on the technical framework the government uses to automate penalties under the country’s welfare system.

Tom Tugendhat, former Security Minister during the previous UK government (Conservative party), has written an article saying precisely what I have been saying for some time: that China is exerting a high degree of control on the current (Labour) government. He cites examples of this overt influence including giving away the UK’s highly strategic Indian Ocean base in the Chagos Islands, which clears the way for China to assume control, selling the former site of the Royal Mint to China so that it may build a new ‘super embassy’ (complete with dungeons for dissidents), closing down the North Sea oil and gas fields thus increasing the UK’s reliance on Chinese windmills and solar panels (made using cheap coal power) and, last of all, deliberately scuppering a trial involving alleged CCP spies.

There’s more of course. I strongly believe that the majority of social unrest (no matter what the supposed cause) is fomented by China. I believe the CCP has a army of internet trolls sabotaging discussions and driving argument, division and hatred. Their influence is everywhere.

But it’s heartening to hear an actual government minister say it out loud, even if he no longer serves. It really is past time that the west woke up.
