The Trump-led resurgence in natural gas

    https://wattsupwiththat.com/2025/06/27/three-big-projects-offer-hope-that-our-energy-nightmare-is-ending/

Thanks to radical policies of the recent past, the U.S. and much of the world seemed hell-bent on phasing out natural gas and other reliable energy sources, racing instead toward endless cycles of brownouts, blackouts, and complete grid failures brought on by the inadequacies of “alternatives.”

In the nick of time, thanks to President Trump and other forward-thinking leaders, the turnaround has begun – and natural gas is leading the way.

The environmental costs of wind and solar – 36 Page PDF

      SARAH MONTALBANO

      Executive Summary

Wind turbines, solar panels, battery storage, and other “green energy” technologies are too often hailed as unqualified goods for the environment. However, there are no solutions, only tradeoffs, and the same is true for energy production and its environmental impact. All human activities have an impact on the environment.

Debates about the U.S.’ energy mix almost entirely overlook or minimize the negative environmental impacts of wind, solar, and batteries while diminishing the positive impacts of oil and gas, coal, and nuclear. Policymakers must consider the costs of wind and solar and the benefits of oil and gas, coal, and nuclear when determining the desirability and feasibility of ambitious energy transition goals.

Further, communities ought to be fully informed of the costs of wind and solar when debating the merits of proposed projects in their areas.

This executive summary is offered based on the findings of this report.

Someone wrote this on Australian social media.

No wonder so many young people have no concept of saving money.

And how many kids even have money boxes any more?

Found a fiver blowing down the footpath – So I thought I’d pleasantly surprise one of the neighbours kids ( about 13 years old ) who was nearby on bike – “Here you go Jodie. Found this out front. Bung it in your money box”
FFS – You should have heard the hesitation and questions – “where’s it from ?”, “why’s it dirty ?”, why’s it damp ?” etc. 🙄🙄🙄
When I was a kid if an adult neighbour I knew well said to me “Hey Pete, I found 20 cents on the footpath. Would you like it ?” then I’m telling you that you would not have to ask me twice……

There is a concept of “doom spending” where many younger people have no motivation to save because they see no future and feel they should spend all their money and have fun and party.

Also, with older people, I am aware that many are also spending excessively as well because they foresee that their hard-earned savings are not safe under a Labor Government either due to new taxes both implemented and those not yet imagined or imaginable. They feel they should spend what they have now before the Government takes it from them.

And certainly the Australian Government doesn’t set an example. They themselves are doom spending.

The Government is spending money without restraint and there is no effective political opposition party to stop them. The opposition party, the fake conservative Liberals with very few seats in Parliament, themselves don’t see excessive Government spending as a problem judging by their lack of pronouncements on the issue. Australia is now effectively a One Party State with an actual communist PM*.

Total Australian Government debt, federal, state and local, $2.113 trillion and increasing at a frightening rate.

I don’t think it was much publicised but the world’s largest iron ore deposit was discovered in Australia.

    https://m.economictimes.com/news/international/new-zealand/worlds-largest-iron-ore-mine-discovered-6-trillion-find-could-make-australia-unstoppable/articleshow/121688130.cms

World’s largest iron ore mine discovered, $6 trillion find could make Australia unstoppable

    Synopsis

A new iron ore deposit has been discovered in Australia’s Hamersley region. The reserve is estimated at 55 billion metric tons. Its market value is approximately $6 trillion. The ore has over 60% iron concentration. This discovery will boost Australia’s position in the global iron ore market. It will also bring major investments. New infrastructure development is expected in the region.

    Jun 07, 2025

    AND

    https://www.earth.com/news/geologists-found-the-worlds-largest-iron-ore-deposit/

Scientists say they have identified the largest iron ore deposit ever recorded. They point to an area in Western Australia that contains a staggering amount of metal worth billions. They have tested samples, analyzed isotopes, and drawn conclusions that may reshape the way many see iron on our planet.

Based on recent average iron ore prices of approximately $105 per metric ton, the deposit’s total value could reach $5.775 trillion USD. This staggering figure far surpasses the $5.9 billion initially reported and highlights the significant economic implications of the find.

Assuming the deposit is economically feasible to develop and there is a world market for more iron ore, then that means more rocks for Australia to export and do nothing with ourselves as we barely have a steel industry and are not allowed to use coal which is required to process iron ore into steel. No, it is not economically feasible to do it with “green” hydrogen made with windmill or solar electricity.

In the Australian way we will export the iron ore and metallurgical coal, have someone else process it and buy it back as manufactured products.

Unfortunately, if this mine is ever developed, assuming its not on sacred land etc., this will will provide a huge new tax base to the Australian Government which will allow them to continue with their wild and irresponsible spending.

It doesn’t matter how big it is, its what you do with it that counts!

No-one will buy iron ore from a country with the highest-paid workers in the world, it won’t be economic. No-one will be able to afford the iron ore by the time a Govt has added a 150% special mining tax to it in order to pay for everything else in the country. We’re not the only country with iron ore, we still have to compete.

Add politics to a greedy grasping rapacious Govt and we could be banned from dealing with China by our ‘Closest Friend’ America, politics changes daily in the White House.

International buyers know nothing and care less about our wage structure, it’s the FOB price and quality that matters.

Our FIFO miners are NOT overpaid, Sydney train drivers would earn far more and they are good at what they do. They do not go out to prevent efficiencies in the industries and we are many days steaming closer to our markets. A world recession could cause problems but that’s not the miners’ fault.

But they are very efficient and know what they are doing. During my visit to Marandoo, two RTIO staffers were asked how long it took to load the big 250 tonne dump trucks. One said 2 mins 43 secs, the other corrected him by adding a few seconds. It’s a very smooth choreographed process, with the next truck ready as the previous one drives away.

The MAGA Dig Dig Dig, Drill Drill Drill followed in Australia would result in substantially increased revenue for States and Federal governments via mining royalties, mining company taxes and employees, servicing companies taxes and employees and economic prosperity increasing with related after tax spending in the economy.

Lift to government restrictions on new ventures and extensions at existing operations.

The Albanese Labor Government plans to tax unrealised profits from superannuation schemes and no doubt extend to other areas after that, but what about unrealised tax revenue from locked away minerals and energy resources?

These articles don’t read as if the iron ore deposit has been fully evaluated for the purpose of funding and development as a mine. It is described as a “deposit “, “reserve”, “resource”. Note that the article is published in New Zealand. Where is it reported in Australia? Where are the reports that describe the deposit in terms prescribed by the ASX required JORC Code? If the deposit is secured by mineral tenements held by an ASX listed company then these reports are mandatory. Watching with interest!

One thing you can be sure of is that Australians won’t fund the development, that will fall on international companies and those buyers who sign early contracts will get favourable rates.

Sure as God made little apples ten yrs down the track Aussies will be whinging that international miners are “giving away” the ore to their mates, robbing Australia of what is “ours” even though we did diddly squat to find/fund/develop it. Look at the gas export industry and read the book.

Apparently the new Superman movie is somewhat woke but the full extent is not yet known.

However, it has dropped the idea of American exceptionalism as the catchphrase or motto

“Truth, Justice, and the American Way”

has been replaced in the movie by

“Truth, Justice, and the Human Way”

And DC comics had previously changed it to:

“Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow”.

I am guessing it will be another woke disaster story.

In her effort to try and understand why the Liberal Party (Australia), fake conservatives, lost the last election, which if she had a clue would be obvious, Sussssssan Ley said:

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-06-25/sussan-ley-marks-a-tone-shift-for-liberals-in-press-club-address/105458470

Ms Ley said the working group would be led by opposition energy spokesman Dan Tehan, and include Shadow Treasurer Ted O’Brien, opposition resources spokeswoman Susan McDonald, manager of opposition business Alex Hawke, opposition environment spokeswoman Angie Bell, and Dean Smith and Andrew Willcox.

That group will report directly to Ms Ley and Nationals leader David Littleproud, tasked with developing a policy with two focuses: a “stable” and “affordable” energy grid and reducing emissions so Australia is playing its part in the global effort.

The fundamental problems with that approach is that:

    1) It assumes “emissions”, presumably CO2, are a problem.

    2) It is not a “global effort” at all. Only the stupid woke countries like Australia are destroying their economies in the name of emissions. The world’s largest CO2 emitter, China, has CO2 emissions as high as the entire Western world and is also twice as high as the next biggest emitter the United States. Not that any amount of CO2 matters anyway. Neither the United States since TRUMP or China operate with any CO2 emissions limits. It’s all pointless even if CO2 were a problem (it isn’t).

The snowstorm which dropped 1 metre of impossible snow on Australia’s Snowy Mountains earlier this week arrived in New Zealand yesterday, with torrential rain in the north of the South Island flooding homes built on old beaches and river valleys, while in the deep south it’s freezing with warnings of heavy snow to low levels as another ‘eye’ forms off the coast of Dunedin.

I wonder how many Leftoids have any clue how important carbon is for organic chemistry, and hence life itself, or have ever heard of the carbon cycle?

And I find them constantly referring to carbon dioxide as “carbon” deeply disturbing because they really don’t even know what compound they are talking about but are prepared to destroy the economy because of it.

It’s like when these witnesses at a US House Transportation Committee were asked how much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and they had absolutely no clue:

              ‘ … provide evidence …’

There is ample evidence to prove, beyond reasonable doubt, that CO2 does not cause global warming. Recent news suggests that there has been less cloud in the mid latitudes over the past 25 years, making the planet warmer.

CO2 has no case to answer.

              Want evidence?
https://eartharxiv.org/repository/view/8942/ International Journal of Scientific Research in Physics and Applied Sciences, How the Magnetic North Pole and Energetic Particle Precipitation Control Earth’s Climate.
“The hypothesis that the position of the magnetic North Pole latitude ought to be very highly correlated with global temperature change has been tested and shown to be correct. Two new climate models are developed and tested, one includes
CO2, the other does not. Model 2 without CO2 predicts 89% of all modern warming and gives seamless hindcasts of the Roman Warm Period and LALIA, the Medieval Warm Periods, and a smooth transition through the Little Ice Age into the Modern Warm Period with the correct timescales and recent temperature amplitudes. As the Pole swings Northwards, the energetic particle interacting region shifts to higher ionospheric altitudes, and this reduces albedo and
hence increases forcing (figure 4) by virtue of changes to the world’s clouds. Calculations suggest that the EEP process is responsible for some 81% of recent warming, with the rest (up to 12.7% ) mainly of solar
origin. CO₂/other GHG/aerosols/aviation cirrus etc. at most, could contribute ~6% of all warming. The detail disclosed represents a profound and crucial discovery for climate science and its future direction.
But, of course, the only evidence you want to know about is anything, no matter how tenuous and manipulated, that supports man made climate change.

            >offered a job in the CIA but did not work there … offered a position as a “case agent with the CIA”, but declined the offer as it meant “I wouldn’t be able to tell my friends and family what I was doing”.

That’s ok, you can still work for us but not as a case agent, we’ve got a cushy job for you down under.
You can tell your friends and family what you’re doing, but you can never tell them who you’re REALLY working for.

Peering through the miasma, I don’t see a conspiracy theory there at all. Australia is well-known for its censorship on all forms of media, especially the internet. The subjects of the Govt have no right to free speech in law, yet the Govt itself has a politicians right to say anything they like encoded.

Even Wikipedia would educate you on that Miasma.

The early betting has Angus Taylor as the man to take the helm. Other hopefuls, Josh Frydenberg, Andrew Hastie, followed by Ted O’Brien and Tim Wilson.

Tim Wilson looks good, but his seat isn’t stable.

The rise and fall of Dick Smith Electronics

    https://youtu.be/lx1biRh20yA?si=hKi17Lh1YbApk1lK

It all went downhill when they moved into consumer goods like VCR’s and TV’s, and discrete components were all in a corner at the back of the store.
But at least you could buy 2 resistors in a blister pack for $1 at Tandy. 😆

      Very sad what happened.

It’s what you get when you have people who don’t understand or care for the hobby electronics market with no life experience or general knowledge or a clue promoted into “management” positions.

Back in the day, they had genuine geeks working there with whom you could even discuss your circuit and design ideas.

The downfall happened after Dick Smith sold it, I will hasten to add.

This sort of thing happens to so many Australian companies.

“It all went downhill when they moved into consumer goods”

Society had already changed, many items like radios and portable sound systems were mass-produced cheaply and couldn’t be repaired, the electronics were just a module. The customers who were keen for the challenge of building something themselves moved onto problem-solving games on computers, of which there are thousands, and the whole of society moved away from building anything themselves. How many people fix or modify their own car these days?

It frightening how many people don’t cook anymore.

Ice age humans crafted the oldest known European boomerang from Mammoth ivory

Scientists have discovered what may be one of the oldest boomerangs in the world, hidden in a Polish cave for tens of thousands of years. The mammoth ivory artifact, found alongside human remains, could date back as far as 42,000 years ago, making it significantly older than previously known examples of this hunting tool.

While boomerangs are typically associated with Aboriginal Australians, this find suggests that early Europeans were independently developing similar complex throwing weapons during the harsh Ice Age.

A Very Sensible Idea – Brake Lights on the Front of Your Car? They’re Being Studied—and Could Prevent More Crashes

There are numerous everyday traffic scenarios that could be made safer by cars with front-facing braking indicators.

      So many people..

..shouldn’t be allowed to drive! If you can’t estimate the speed & distance of an approaching car versus your acceleration, you shouldn’t be driving. ..or just wait until they are past you! I can see why they need self-driving cars.

Those clowns who drive autos will get deceived by any guy in a manual car who is using engine braking to slow down, what use would brake lights on the front be? Already the wrecking yards are filling up with cars that have had a minor front collision but are uneconomic to repair because of the expensive sensors that got broken.

    Electric Vehicle driver conditioning.

A carwash owner told me that many if not most of the not very many EVs that get washed in his premises, most visitors on holidays, when signalled to move forward into the wash bay and conveyor belt sit and wait for the EV to move forward automatically.

I noted last weekend that there is now a sign asking EV drivers to switch off the automatic function.

New cell organelle discovered! But.. but, the science was settled, we knew everything!

“A new organelle has been found by scientists at the University of Virginia (UVA). The super-small specialized structure has a role recycling material inside our cells… termed a “hemifusome.” They found the organelle by using cryo-electron tomography, an imaging method that freezes cells and creates three-dimensional images of their internal structures… “We think the hemifusome helps manage how cells package and process material, and when this goes wrong, it may contribute to diseases that affect many systems in the body.”
