Oh No! A cold spell now will spawn Climate Change Illiteracy

It’s another great day in science. Marshall Shepherd, once a meteorologist at NASA GISS, warns us that a cold snap will destroy reading skills. Don’t let the kids out!

A Cold Start To Thanksgiving Week Will Spawn Climate Change Illiteracy

Marshall Shepherd, Senior Contributor, Forbes

Luckily this only happens in Thanksgiving week, eh?

As the climate cycles turn to cooler trends, expect to see a lot more of this kind of bizarre conjecture and weapons grade excuses. There’s a flock of believers to guard from reality.

Shepherd seems to be trying to preempt and inoculate believers who might get exposed to skeptical comments at Thanksgiving dinner when they meet all those relatives:

Like clockwork, I will also start to see Tweets and Facebook posts claiming that global warming or climate change is not real because its cold. These types of Tweets belong in the Hall of Fame (or Shame) of Climate Illiteracy.

So now believers are primed to gasp or snigger at the right moment round the dinner table. Marshall goes on with a longwinded explanation of how it’s cold now because a rock hit the Earth when it was a baby-world and made winter. He even links to a childrens page at NASA — possibly because most believers are child-like, or he thinks they are not too smart.

Then he winds up to the clincher moment of social shame:

“Friends don’t let friends draw conclusions about climate

based on one day or week”

Of course they don’t. And if Marshall Shepard was my friend I’d ask him when he last wrote to the journalists and politicians who keep saying that the hottest day ever means something about climate change? Isn’t he concerned that the constant junk science reporting about short hot trends only fuels this feeling that short cold trends are valid too?

So if anyone leans on you, ask them which friends of theirs they have they saved from humiliation and ignominy. Or did they let them make unscientific pronouncements that one hot week, day, night,  or long weekend was “caused by a coal plant”? Friends don’t let friends embarrass themselves, after all.

And if he wants to talk long trends, let’s talk long trends. The Earth has been cooling for 2,000 years. It’s cooler than it was 7,000 years ago, 120,ooo years ago, and 120 million years ago.

GISP, Greenland, Ice Core, Temperature, Holocene.

7,000 years of cooling in Greenland.

Greenland is not the whole world. But Antarctica has been cooling for 2,000 years too. And pretty much everyone agrees we’ve had 50 million years of cooling.

Friends don’t let friends worry about minor changes in an ever changing climate.

PS: Our British Friends don’t have thanksgiving, but spare a thought for them. Minus 17 is being mooted, and a newspaper has even used the phrase “a potential mini ice age winter”.

Let’s see how the windmills and the solar panels keep everyone warm during the cold spell.

It didn’t work so well in Texas law winter did it?

Don’t worry, the gas supplies from Russia and elsewhere will help ! 😉

Seriously though, there could be real problems if this cold hits all of Europe as well !

Just passed the solar minimum. The coldest winter in northern hemisphere for eons coming next. Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. All predicted long ago by a janitor who later became a professor. What would a janitor know?

Methane, oil and coal prices sky high. Out of reach for the poor.

      BIG guv solution

      Ban coal.
Cease oil & gas exploration to reduce reserves.

      Result

Many deaths. Nothing beats freezing to death in your own home caused by your own elected government.

      Policy reaction by bureaucracy

More of same. Gaia worship writ large.

I agree with Mr Shepherd, one week isn’t a basis for climate as everyone knows earths climate started during the Rio Earth Summit 1992.

Even of the whole earth was covered with snow, they would find some excuse to keep promoting their climate change crap for the simple fact it has nothing to do with the climate and everything to do with governments and the elite trying to satisfy their hunger for more power and control over the people, and big businesses to make more profits.

I believe the world really is cooling.

The Chinese know this and that their society has never faired well during periods of natural cooling.

While the West is trying to control the climate by cooling by not producing CO2, the Chinese are burning over 10 million tonnes of coal per day trying to produce CO2 to warm the planet. Of course, CO2 has no such effect on temperature. Both strategies are pointless.

While societies genuinely do suffer due to global cooling, I am not aware of any society that has suffered during periods of natural warming. I keep asking Leftists to give me an example and they can’t. The Minoan, Egyptian, Roman, Medieval and present warm periods are examples where civilisation has thrived during natural warming.

This is the graph that terrifies the Chinese.

As you say, pretty convinced that China is aware of the probable cooling approaching

I don’t think they really buy into the whole CO2 warming malarkey, but are more intent on making sure they have the energy supplies to at least attempt to weather {lol} a protracted cooler period.

On the contrary Clarence. I think they see it as a great way to cripple the west while leaving themselves stronger so they are totally committed to talking up the retoric (while of course doing nothing at all on the action front).

They aren’t doing the “crippling”, the west are doing it all to themselves…

… with climate “resilience” memes, and the jab.

China is just helping it along a bit.

That old saying… Never interrupt a foe when that foe is fighting/destroying itself..

The graph which should inform the world is shown at 12:30 in Professor Weiss’ video. An extraordinary analysis, it relies on only two cycles, one the sun and the other the induced ocean cycle. And these were found by blind Fourier analysis, which is great science.

Unlike Mann’s hockey stick, the temperature graph matches the Chinese graph for the last 250 years, after the Dalton minimum but shows an amazing fit and a solid prediction of the 2015 plateau followed by a steep drop after after 2020. It is happening now. We are experiencing a rapid fall of 1.5C undoing all the ‘Global Warming’ in just a decade, turning around in 2033.

So by 2026 the world will be 1C cooler on average. But the money machine which is Climate Change will swap to an explanation that CO2 causes (as yet undecided) which causes cooling, overwhelming the warming.

There is just too much money in Climate Change. Only the old school talk Global Warming, dying polar bears and globes on fire. That is so yesterday. It’s Climate Change now.

And the UN is cementing its place as a world government with Climate Change, just as the EU is demanding that its courts are above National courts. Unelected multi national bureaucrats with other people’s money. We saw it in play at COP26, 300 people from Zimbabwe alone. Why? Who paid?

The bureaucrats are not going to fire themselves short of revolution. And the Chinese Communists are infiltrating every committee and seizing control, which is why the world is in lockdown. In Australia we are not going to suffer too much, but in the frozen North of Scandinavia, Canada, Japan, Russia, it’s going to be a frozen hell. I hope they do not run out of fuel.

Fifteen degrees centigradevhere the last few days on the south coast of Devon. Supposed to turn much colder on Sunday with the possibility of a little bit of snow on upland dartmoor.

We rarely get frosts here on the coast and the mini ice age seems a tad unlikely, although it would be the only circumstance in which our leaders and the Met office might take notice

So it’s hard to say whether he is supporting continuing warming or just that Climate Change means cooler is on the menu too.

That’s the point about Climate Change as it morphs inevitably from Global Warming into Global Cooling. We will find that Climate Change means having a bet either way.

As for ‘the’ Science. It predicts whatever you want it to predict. Warming oceans for example. NASA now claims seriously that the oceans stole the warming which has particular meaning for Australia and the Great Barrier reef as fossil fuel increased CO2 which caused Global Warming which heated the air but the oceans stole it. So we have to stop coal mining to save the Great Barrier reef. Ditto for Global Cooling.

And I still do not understand what Malcolm Turnbull’s $444 Million gift to his wife’s committee is going to do to ‘save’ the Great Barrier reef. Even the small group which received the unbelievable gift had no idea what to do with it. It is never mentioned. Obviously ‘saving’ the reef was a failure and we have to close the coal mines anyway.

At an equivalent 7 tons of gold, $1.2Million a day for a year and no tax payable, it is the greatest theft from treasury in my lifetime. A personal gift from Lord Turnbull, except it was not his money. But the press are not interested. For Malcolm and Lucy, it was noblesse oblige, their sacred duty to rip off the public for their favorite cause without any attempt at explanation. The Great Train Robbery was 2.6million pound, in today’s money 1/4 of what the Turnbulls took for their own Medici like gift to save the planet. Except it hasn’t. So what happened to the cash?

Climate Change means never having to say sorry.

          cheese-eating surrender monkeys!

Having only ever impersonated a speaker of d’ lingua franca, your “meme chose” translates to ‘same thing’ or ‘thing same’? Aspiring ventriloquists want to know.

There must be a YUGE and overpaid Semantics Orifice Division (SOD) deep within the bowels of the UN/COP/CCC edifice, churning out endless adjustments, word-tweaks and ever-morphing turns of phrase: hence the ‘journey moving forward’ from warming, to change, to crisis, to emergency, to tipping point… then back to good old innocuous ‘change’ once more.

Round-and-round they go – in their attempt to nudge the flock into falling for the fear/hype/guilt – yet that’s how Earth’s climates have operated since… since… well, yonks! [a long, long time]. What’s that saying again: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Just heard on the radio that the University of Wellington ( New Zealand not the Wellington in Victoriastan that only has a few farm houses) is sending an all female research team to Antarctica to study how global warming will affect the Ross ice shelf and how much this will affect sea level rise. Apparently science, whether good, bad or indifferent should only be done by gender specific groups, ya know its the only way to get the right answers.

True but in fact it was always Climate Change since the World Meteorological Society managed to get an international platform at the United Nations which they called the Inter governmental Panel for Climate Change. And to be part of the United Nations, the argument is implicitly that humans can change the climate. Of course the idea of all governments is to stop change, no matter how much it costs us. Like the white roofs at $7000 additional cost. In ten years they will legislate black ones again and tax the owners of white ones. Just like diesel replacing petrol in France and then taxing all the diesels as ecologically destructive.

So in the same year of 1988 Climate Change was discovered dramatically, an urgent problem requiring trillions in funding and an all powerful multi government political committee, the IPCC. At the time Global Cooling caused by man was the story but thanks to James Hansen, expert on the atmosphere of Venus which some people say is a different planet, it became Global Warming caused by man. Of course. Now 33 years later we will just go back to Global Cooling.

“Friends don’t let friends draw conclusions about climate based on one day or week”

What utter nonsense. This is Climate Smugness. The people who know everything about the climate. Not a meteorologist among them because the weather is utterly irrelevant to the Climate. It is a classic example of group smugness. The people who know everything, even if in fact they know nothing but what they are told.

However it’s absurd. You cannot have climate without weather and what is the climate but the sum of all the weather on all the days? So if we have a very cold winter, as we have had last year in Melbourne with hardly a day over 30C in much more than a year, it is actually warming? And people believe it?

As for sea level change, there has been none at all. The average person cannot tell a few mm in sea level change, on top of the tides and the waves. And as far as I can see in all the cities of the world I have visited, there is no evidence at all of a problem in the last 150 years. And even the dreaded 2C, who could tell? And what difference does it make anywhere? Antarctica is not going to melt. It’s a high altitude iceblock 3.5Km high twice the size of South America with a temperature of -50C most days in a country where the sun does not rise for six months.

So why does Prince Charles give us a few years to fix the problem, as he has done for a quarter of a century? What problem?

And what is the difference between the weather and the climate? An exceptionally cold winter is an exceptionally cold winter. And they are becoming common across the world, from China to Germany to America. But that’s not the Climate? It sure is. And its colder.

Last Monday NZ Govt Agents (the munted media) shouted that the city of Napier would suffer the “first heatwave of this summer” during the week. NB. The same ‘agents’ mentioned NOTHING about last weekend’s frigid snowfalls over south-eastern Australia.

Napier, on the east coast of the North Island, regularly gets warm/hot – it’s a renowned fruit growing region after all – due to predominant westerlies causing a downwind foehn effect, similar to Christchurch’s nor’wester off the Southern Alps.

By Wednesday a small press release was issued stating the ‘heat wave’ never eventuated – aw shucks. The max temp was 29°C on Monday and within three days it was back down to 25°C, all over rover. Again, NOTHING was mentioned about the sub-zero snowfalls in the South Island occurring at the same time, thanks to leftovers of the Great Australian Blizzard of November which was pushing warm westerlies ahead of it. Meteorology 101 yet taxpayer-funded NIWA disappear it.

I’m in Perth, Western Australia and in recent years in the middle of our summer they warn of “Extreme weather event coming!!” when the temp is forecast to reach over 35 degrees C. This is perfectly normal for Perth yet they warn people to keep drinking plenty of water and to check up on elderly people because of the unprecedented horror. It reminds me of soccer players ‘diving’ and writhing around in agony when the replay shows the offenders foot missed by about a meter.

Thanks for that insight Greg, the UK Met and BBC are having a fight over the weather and presumably climate change.

‘Most know from bitter experience that meteorology is far from an exact science, but Britain’s two leading weather forecasting services have given completely contradictory predictions on what we can expect this winter.

‘The Government-run Met Office has forecast a mild winter, but the BBC’s service predicts it is likely to be cold and harsh.

‘Experts last night described the opposing long-range forecasts as unparalleled and they risk causing havoc for businesses such as energy suppliers, transport firms, supermarkets and airlines which rely on forecasts to plan ahead.’ (Daily Mail)

An extreme heat wave affected much of Western North America from late June through mid-July 2021.[3] Rapid attribution analysis found this was a 1000-year weather event, made 150 times more likely by climate chang

You see, this is rapid analysis that explains many degrees above average in this region of 1.5% of the landmass in this one year because the Earth has warmed half a degree in the past 30 years.
Making a big deal about another ridiculously cold weather event affecting more than half of America is a knee-jerk reaction.

    Press Release

“London, 20 November — A report commissioned by the Norwegian government has contradicted Boris Johnson’s recent claim in Parliament that offshore wind costs have fallen by 70% in a decade.

It confirms that the UK’s newest offshore wind farms remain high-cost operations. Indeed, the academics who produced the report have said the forthcoming Dogger Bank wind farms will be unprofitable, and are essentially worthless, with a value of around minus £1 billion in current terms.

Remarkably, the findings have not been disputed by the developers.

The findings, however, are just the visible tip of a very large iceberg of unprofitable offshore wind projects that are threatening to hit pension funds heavily invested in similar renewable energy schemes.

The report confirms as series of findings published by the GWPF and others [1–5], which show that offshore wind costs are very high, at best are only falling slowly, and are far above the auction strike prices being agreed.

Andrew Montford, Deputy Director of Net Zero Watch said:

“We have been warning since 2017 that there has been no revolution in offshore wind costs. Every time we get new financial data from offshore wind farms, the cost estimates go up. Just this week, our estimates for the Seagreen 1 wind farm have increased by nearly 20%, and those for Dogger Bank by a similar amount.”

The Government’s Net Zero plans rely on a five-fold increase in the wind fleet, mostly from offshore developments, and an extraordinary decline in the cost of the power it produces.

The latest findings mean that the costs of delivering Net Zero will increase by hundreds of billions of pounds, and probably by trillions.

Craig Mackinlay MP, the chairman of the parliamentary Net Zero Scrutiny Group, said:

“It is becoming increasingly obvious that our dash for renewables, notably wind, is failing on the two key criteria of energy security and affordability. An avoidable energy crisis is approaching but sadly our government is yet to recognise it.”

Dr Benny Peiser, Net Zero Watch director said:

“The Climate Change Committee’s Net Zero plan has already been shown to have used wildly optimistic assumptions on the cost of renewable energy. The Norwegian report is another nail in the coffin of its credibility.”

At least with off-shore windmills, at the end of their very short life you can just sink them, and let them become toxic artificial reefs.

Commenting before reading comments as I’m sure this has been rationally discussed – Why does the graph, which seems to show some sort of cooling trend, stop at 1950 minus 95 years?

Richard Alley, a climatologist and author of the Greenland data says,

“So, what do we get from GISP2? Alone, not an immense amount. With the other Greenland ice cores… and compared to additional records from elsewhere, an immense amount… Using GISP2 data to argue against global warming is, well, stupid, or misguided, or misled, or something, but surely not scientifically sensible.”
