UPDATE: See the video below
So Monckton snuck onto a microphone and dared break the sacred tabernacle of climate. There are some things you just can’t say…
E &E Newswire story
After the news conference, and as diplomats gathered for the climate conference president’s assessment of how close countries are to agreement, Monckton quietly slipped into the seat reserved for the delegation of Myanmar and clicked the button to speak.
“In the 16 years we have been coming to these conferences, there has been no global warming,” Monckton said as confused murmurs filled the hall and then turned into a chorus of boos.
CFACT are always busy at these conferences.
Release: Call to suspend climate treaty negotiations at CFACT press conference
PS: I hear Andrew Bolt discussed it with Steve Price today (but I can’t find that reference).
UPDATE: MaxL finds it here (thanks) Andrew Bolt and Steve Price (2GB) talked to Lord Monckton here.

FLASHBACK — Monckton has been getting evicted from things since Bali 2007
Monckton, David and I were thrown out of convention centre halls, and out of the security precinct when we protested with Christopher Monckton in Bali.
One of the high points was getting this dangerous banner above through the security gates:
They confiscated the banner– but only after reading it. It contained the incendiary words: “No Kyoto 2. New science drives out old fears”. So the IPCC thinks Greenpeace has a scientific message, but eight people armed with 17 degrees (including 3 doctorates) and a tame banner was too much? After many pleas we got the banner back, and took it away…
I’ll never forget David Evans (my other half) smuggling it back in past the same armed guards 30 minutes later. The rest of us smuggled the lab coats through. (God forbid — lab coats?) A 7m banner is no small thing tucked into a backpack, and there were a lot of guards, and they did search the backpacks. He dazzled the guards by giving them all free copies of The Great Global Warming Swindle. They loved it. I’m sure Martin Durkin would be pleased no end. 🙂 See all those photos…

UPDATE:The Video
This video clearly shows the moment Monckton dared make the sane point no one else in the room would make. But the sound is edited — complete silence from 0:48 – 1:03. And most of the mic’s in the room would be muted, so the crowd response would been mostly inaudible in any case. (Shame. It would be good to have had our own camera panning the crowd.).

Bully for him! Monckton is always a thorn in the butt of fools and idiots. Imagine being booed by such a crowd. What an honor.

An honour indeed, Monckton is a legend
141
He sure is, in fact more like a living legend. How can we honour a man who has single-handedly cured AIDS, MS, Graves Disease and sundry other ailments* as well as exposing Barack Obama’s birth certificate to be fake? Not to mention correcting Rachel Pinker’s conclusions from her own paper. His talents know no bounds.
He should be given a Noble Prize (oh wait, he already has one).
* I’m told it works on stubborn stains as well.

Hi KFC
I agree that Lord Monckton is a great ambassador for scientific truth even if his method of doing that is a little unconventional.
By playing the harmless but highly visible “Stirrer” he brings attention to the fact that maybe the Climate Change agenda is not about Real Science but about Real Money.
Looking back through history we can see how populations have been led into things that have not been in the best interest of the majority.
World Wars 1 and 11 were about the Elites getting their economic noses out of joint.
Then Korea, Vietnam and the constant Africa meat grinder.
In global Warming, AGW, CC or whatever label you want to use we have the latest successful attempt at mass mind entrainment under the guise of Noble Cause or “for the good of mankind”.
A great many of the usual elites at GE Mobil, Shell and so on have profited from the AGW clamour at the expense or mr and mrs average taxpayer.
Can anyone explain for me the difference between world War 11 and Global Warming.
They appear to be the same money grab in different Monkey Suits.

Please don’t worry JFC. No one will ever mistake you for so tough an adversary that they would rather throw you out of a meeting hall than try to counter your argument. You’re quite safe in the background while Monckton takes the beating for you.

Yet you are still here ! ???
70
Andy,
In the case of trolls you need blight removal, not stain removal.
Best one-liner I’ve seen in a long time though.
30
In the case of real trolls, just wait for sun-up 🙂
30
Andy, have you been reading The Hobbit again? You know what happens when you do that. 😉
10
Actually, its been a very long time since I read The Hobbit..
I don’t even seem to have a copy on the bookshelf..
(LOTR looks very near needing replacing, but then, my daughter read that twice before she was 9 so its done some work !!)
10
Andy,
Your daughter has good taste in reading.
I know Harry Potter is popular these days if not a legend in its own right. But it doesn’t hold a candle to Tolkien.
10
And you have to admit the Lord M is one smart cookie. Faced with the inconvenient fact that global warming since 1995 is now statistically significant, did he cave in? No, he is so smart he just changed the start date! What a whiz!
07
Bullshit Brooksie.
40
No, its really true Sonny, he is a smart cookie!
03
John Brookes tried to convince people on his absurd claim HERE and got answered several times that exposed his unsupported assertion as being well absurd
You are wrong as shown HERE by Werner Brozek who blew your absurd position away:
EXCERPT:
FrankK also answered you and you avoid him since too HERE:
I am sure you will avoid MANFRED completely because he used prominent warmists own words against you.
=============================================================================================================
I see that you have not replied since to anyone and I would consider that if you want to gain credibility them you have to back up your assertions with data as FrankK has urged you to do.
CAWG believers like you Johnny are trying to do the impossible and forget that the IPCC predicted a warming of .20C for EACH of the first two decades and it is not happening at all.The prediction is a 500 pound millstone around you warmist necks and made worse when a new recent peer reviewed paper came out that showed the “hot spot” does not exist as shown HERE.
It is too funny to see warmists squirm over trivial warming trend claims these days that are well below their beloved IPCC and DR. Hansen’s MINIMUM warming predictions.
20
Monckton isn’t a legend; he’s a very naughty boy.
He’s a gadfly, an iconoclast, albeit a very intelligent and well-credentialled one.
What infuriates the Warmists is his ability to playfully skewer them at their most vulnerable points (which is to say ridiculing them), and it is no surprise to me that he is the recipient of the most vile abuse perhaps of any of the prominent skeptics. I don’t remember reading that anyone “would like to feed a teaspoonful of DDT to” Steve McIntyre, for example.
Warmists have to belittle him, and when they do so, they avoid the scientific grounds on which he would crucify them, and resort to the usual ad hominem tactics such as deriding his class (“the potty peer”) or, despicably, his chronic illness in the form of Graves’ disease (“swivel-eyed lunatic”).
He is the Warmists’ worst nightmare made real, a seemingly comic figure who nevertheless has all the facts to hand, is constantly polite and gracious, and publicly takes it up to the deluded Green sycophants — his lengthy Copenhagen interview with a Norwegian member of Greenpeace is worth the admission money alone.
The Warmists will never come within coo-ee of understanding Monckton; he stages these bizarre stunts because that is his way of releasing the enormous anger he feels at the wilful damage that the Green movement is doing worldwide purely to fuel its own self-importance and at the expense of the most vulnerable members of society.
Yes, he is a very naughty boy. But I was wrong; he is a legend as well.
420
Rick,
You captured Monckton perfectly. Only one problem — for we who don’t know the colloquialism, what does “coo-ee” mean?
Thanks
20
Roy.. coo-ee is a sound that is used in the Aussie bush to call attention to one’s whereabouts. For some reason this particular sound carries a lot further in the bush than yelling “hey. I’m over here”
Sort of like an Aussie form of yodelling !
So, “not coming within coo-ee”, means you were still a long distance away
40
They left that one out of Crocodile Dundee I guess.
Thanks
10
The newspaper report says he was booed, but on listening to the whole speech, I can not hear any. Confused mumbling is about all.
But yes.. Well done M’Lord ! 🙂

I suspect that the main reason COP18 was held in a dictatorial country was just that. To be able to shut all dissent.
The UN-SSR wants to destroy all dissent, and wants to control everything from the climate to the internet. The disgrace is that some ‘democracies’ seem to be complying with the UN-SSR’s first among equals mister Bonky Moon.
140
Perhaps a better reason would be that holding a meeting in the Persian Gulf significantly lessens the possibility of the Gore Effect (record cold weather / blizzard / snowfall) hitting Doha during the meeting. Remember Copenhagen got blasted with cold last meeting. Doesn’t make it impossible; just less likely. Cheers –
160
Monckton wasn’t booed
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=mwjC-MMKwRY
120
Yep – sure doesn’t look like he was booed at all. He also showed a lot of respect for the host country – unlike some other people that could be mentioned.
80
I thought he spoke quite well, clearly and succinctly, and also the President seemed to take it very well with a respectful and amused smile
80
Janama, there is complete silence — the tape has been edited. No sound 0:48 – 1:03.. From this video we don’t know what the response of the crowd was, and in any case, booing from people who were not near an active mic would not be recorded.
Thanks for finding the video.
50
I can hear him being hissed initially, and then being jeered AND booed near the end. Just keep clicking on the 0:45 mark to play 0:45 to 0:49 a few times until you hear it at about 0:48. You may need headphones. There is a low note of boo, and a mid range jeer, and also a whistle, all mixed together.

It doesn’t matter as the climate conference is irrelevant with a legacy of 18 years of failure and no real plan to lower CO2. It has ended up being like every other UN shake down criminal enterprise. Cut the funding to these political hacks now!
230
Yes cut the funding and force the UN to downsize and to operate within its original charter, throw the socialist politicians out and the other hangers on who treat it as a gravy train.

almost no MSM coverage on this incident, because the 16 years of no significant warming would have to be mentioned no doubt. no bbc coverage, and no abc coverage that i can find. however, this is on “our abc”:
7 Dec: ABC: Sara Phillips: The zeal of the newly converted climate sceptic
THE WOMAN IN THE VIDEO below is a proud American. She’s 60 years old, she listens to Bill O’Reilly, the American version of Alan Jones. She’s heard O’Reilly’s words and she knows climate change is a hoax, hogwash, and bunkum.
Then, for some reason, she decided to see a documentary about melting glaciers.
Her reaction to the film is worth watching. It goes for one minute and 43 seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xzw1dZNWiL8 …
She’s virtually in tears. “There must be something I can do,” she repeats. “Every human being in the world should watch this movie. Everyone!” She is almost aggressive.
You are watching the zeal of the newly converted. She is fiery, passionate, frightened.
Most people who are committed environmentalists have experienced this moment. That point in time when they suddenly see with clarity the enormity of the problem; the importance of it; the urgency. That point when the thinking shifts from ‘somebody should do something about that’ to ‘there must be something I can do’.
Gandhi’s attributed pronouncements start to make sense “Be the change you wish to see.”
As do Edward Everest Hale’s: “I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. I must not fail to do the something that I can do.”
I’ve watched this moment of terrifying realisation in a number of people over the years. I noticed particularly after Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth there was a rash of new awareness. Pledges were made, meat eschewed, car use limited…
Meanwhile, the latest analysis (pdf) of how global temperatures are tracking against the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) forecasts show the world is on track for the warming predicted. The IPCC forecasts a rise in temperatures of 1.8 to 4 degrees. Sea level rises may in fact be worse than predicted.
And this is all before the increasing wealth and associated carbon emissions from the Chinese, Indians and other developing countries are factored in. Just wait until they all can afford a car, a TV and air conditioning. Just wait until the world’s population grows some more and all those new people have a car, a TV and air conditioning…

Imagine if all of the money that is being wasted on a political agenda that is based on normal Earth Cycles and creative manipulation of related data was being spent on improving lives.
110
Exactly.
And the reason why that is not occurring?
The money would not get to the “right” people.
This is a manipulating transfer of money to a group of self elected elites.
One example:
Somewhere in Africa a deserving population was identified.
Some doo-gooder charity of whatever arranged for Wind turbines ( who profits) to be installed to give power
to this underprivileged group of natives.
At least that’s what the donors were told.
On the ground in darkest Africa it seems that the wind power was successfully installed; all good so far.
It was installed next to a WALMART, which apparently takes ALL of the power for itself.
Thank you suckers.
The world goes round and round.

Utterly and incontestably priceless – the value of science in the right hands – a razor sharp needle precisely placed into the hyper-inflatus buttocks of the climate buffoons of Doha, a protected sub-species of rodent (def: A taxonomic subdivision of a species consisting of an interbreeding, usually geographically isolated population of organisms).
Thank you m’Lord for this truly outstanding Christmas present.
80
I have asked Santa for the deciphered contents of the Climategate II attachment.
On a Christian theme, I am confident that the CAGW hoaxers will end up in a place much hotter than planet earth.
30
Well the warmists aren’t the only ones who believe these are The End Times.
Using warmist logic, it seems the data proves that rising CO2 levels are causing more earthquakes. Repent for your original carbon sin, and ye shall be saved!
10
Or maybe it proves:
1. That we don’t have a long enough earthquake record to know what’s really unprecedented.
2. That the Internet allows any scare to reach global proportions at nearly the speed of light.
3. Bad news gets more attention than good news.
4. If you want a constituency you need to tell people that they have a problem and only you can help them (sounds like the UN and followers, huh?).

maybe the mafia boss in in Doha?
7 Dec: ANSA Wire Service, Italy: Mafia arrests for Sicily renewable-energy infiltration
Cosa Nostra ‘got wind-farm, solar work to help boss in hiding’
Italian police on Friday arrested six people and seized 10 billion euros in assets in a probe into suspected Mafia infiltration of renewable-energy facilities in western Sicily whose proceeds are believed to have gone to fugitive Cosa Nostra head Matteo Messina Denaro.
Police said Mafia members got contracts for work on wind farms and solar-energy plants near Agrigento, Palermo and Trapani. A wave of arrests over recent years have closed the net around fugitive 50-year-old Agrigento-based boss Denaro, one of the world’s 10 most-wanted men, who took control of Cosa Nostra after the 2006 arrest of Bernardo Provenzano…

2010: BBC: Fears over ‘widespread’ EU fraud involving the Mafia
On the Italian island of Sicily, one recently-defected Mafia boss revealed just how some of this money was channelled into Mafia hands.
Not wanting to be seen speaking to the BBC in public, Antonio Birrittella agreed to a meeting in a private room in a backstreet hotel in the island’s capital Palermo.
“All these funds from the EU were seen as a gift to the Mafia, easy pickings, especially the development of wind farms and renewable energy,” he said…
“First the Mafia had an interest in many of the companies which obtained public funds, and they owned many of the companies which won the contracts to build wind farms, and finally they claimed fake transactions and issued double payment invoices.”
He says the organisation used intimidation to obtain the plots of land it needed to build the wind farms, and threatened any construction firms who refused to pay its extortion fees.
“It started with arson on their premises or building sites, burning their trucks and machinery. That was followed up with threatening phone calls. At that point they usually got what they wanted.”…
According to the regional anti-Mafia prosecutor Roberto Scarpinato, some of the wind farms here were developed by the Mafia using EU subsidies, which were then used to fund a money-laundering empire…

Posted this at Jennifer’s blog this morning.
More bi-polar delusion from the Gillard idiot.
http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/gillard_opposes_the_power_prices_rises_she_wants/
She’s as mad as a hatter, just look at the evidence. That’s everyone except Gav, he doesn’t like to read facts or evidence.
First we’re told mitigating CAGW is the greatest moral challenge of our time.
Next we’re told we must have a co2 tax to reduce emissions so “we can tackle CC and take action on CC.” Nearly every member of her barking mad govt has stated the above.
Next we’re told by Garnaut and Gillard etc that forcing up our electricity prices is a good thing and will HELP to focus OZ on a clean energy future. Like I said she’s barking mad.
Meantime while forcing OZ to pay heaps more for power her idiot govt is trying to increase exports of coal, iron ore and gas etc to anyone who’ll buy. All that extra emitted co2 evidently doesn’t count according to this bi-polar donkey.
Ferguson her resources minister even wants Victoria to process their huge brown coal deposits so they too can export black coal.
He claims this could be so large that the Latrobe valley could become another Pilbara. But all that extra co2 doesn’t matter either according to these two brained dummies.
I could go on . Now this loon of a govt wants to actually reduce electricity prices because they can start to feel the political heat.
Of course China, India etc power on regardless and our tiny reduction in co2 will not make a scrap of difference to co2 levels or the climate or the temp.
All our wasted billions $ could be flushed down the drain forever and the difference to climate and temp would be exactly the same. Just ask GAIA brain Flannery.
140
I think what she’s doing is relying on cognitive dissidence of the people.
People will hear whatever they want to hear. So if she makes every statement every which way, the people will hear only those things they want to believe, her contrary statements will be rationalised away.
It’s a perfect gambit.
00
Lord Monckton was not booed. It appears the delegates did not react at all, which is something worse. They are so used to hearing all sorts of banal alarmist announcements, that these “expert negotiators” are unable to tell a contrary viewpoint, when it hits them. When you spend so much time and effort cocooning people from the challenging reality of what is happening in the real world they only know to shout down someone offering alternative views when prompted. Like a communist party assembly they clap when cued and denounce when cued.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=mwjC-MMKwRY
60
I think your right Manic. The delegates are so removed from the day to day living experience, they have lost relative-rationality.
They are focusing on the problem and the solution (as handed to them unchallenging). But they don’t do the “back of a matchbox” calcs to check if the question is the correct one, or the solution will make a difference. They have their job to do, and they will focus on that, not wheather any of it is sensible.

Hi Jo,

Lewandowsky is back:
The real debate on climate is happening in San Francisco
“The Doha negotiations coincide with the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in San Francisco, a five-day conference attended by 20,000 scientists, myself included…”
Who will think of the poley bears? Not the high flying loony lew!

I want to know what purpose a psychologist has in going to a GEOPHYSICAL conference. Did you Aussies pay for his boondoggle there?
00
He impersonated a Myanmar Official just to get into UNFCC pretty sick stuff but more importantly he was also caught impersonating a arab businessman wearing the standard arab costume .. Regardless of his fake science views and other antics…Its not an acceptable practice by any caucasian to wear the traditional arab dress as it is seen as a symbol of national identity and tradition. In many gulf states it is illegal not sure if Qatar is one but lucky he never got more then just a boot out of country, Also many of these Gulf State arabs would assume that it was either a piss take, or a fraudulent attempt to curry favour, and in either case would find it offensive and insensitive.
Monkcton being stoned or whipped in public now that would make some news for him
229
Ruth, calm down !!!
80
c.kracknell @ #21 says;
many people would, in your own words, “find it (your statement above) offensive and insensitive”.
70
You should perhaps look at the video- I did, even though I suffer from a decidedly rural internet connection. He is wearing a dark striped suit and tie. Do people get arrested for impersonating arabs in that kind of outfit?
Wierd.
40
It did seem odd to me that The Monck would take it upon himself to dress like a local when every image of Western and Asian politicians visiting the Persian Gulf I have seen has shown them dressed in their own usual two-piece suit. They don’t go native.
In a minute of Googling Ms Cracknell could have discovered more of the back story:
Evidence of offence being caused is… erm… nowhere in the news???
120
Yeah i did google and see that but i also thought that is total BS as said previously Its not an acceptable practice by any caucasian to wear the traditional arab dress as it is seen as a symbol of national identity and tradition and In many gulf states it is illegal…
I suspect his story that he was given this is also BS as the arabs protect their national identity and tradition fiercely .. I would say he managed to purchase one so he could sneak into UNFCC .. if he was in normal suit tie he surely would be noticed …
His original intention was to arrive in national dress
gnome go look at internet he was dressed inside UNFCC in arab dress but obviously changed to suit before or after he was thrown out from asking the question … Maybe he should of told them about his cure for HIV / AIDS and all his other breakthroughs
07
Ruth’s role as the silly old biddy with psuedo-dementia was brilliant..
But she’s gone now… and we can all watch re-runs on Tv if we need to ….

What else could he do? His other suit was at the cleaners.

Scratch that now I get it: they’re writing form The Future! A Climanator cyborg has been sent back in time to meet with the chosen one, Ben Cubby, so that he may inform the masses of the catastrophe that awaits if we don’t bow to the green master.
81
Phew! I was going to say that sounded like rubbish…
02
Mmmm, well I note that the hot bed of radical left wing group think, The International Energy Agency has said we are on track for 3.5 degrees by 2040 and 6 degrees warming by the end of the century. Perhaps Chris should talk to them?
I wonder what the financial services industry will be trading by then? Sand options maybe?
212
roflmao..
and of course, by promulgating the myth, they don’t stand to gain anything, now do they.
And anyone with any cents left will have left the carbon market ages ago !
50
And this proclamation, regardless of who’s making it, is based on precisely what?
There’s a heck of a lot more people who are saying the world is going to end in two weeks.
Just because a lot of people are saying it doesn’t make it any more true.
At least the Maya Armageddonists have got a lump of carved rock to hang their quasi-religious cultist beliefs on. Promoters of global warming have got nothing, nada, zip.
The whole cult was based on a purely natural, cyclical period of warming, but even that ended a decade and a half ago.
.
Global warming doomsayers and their hangers-on – like the International Energy Agency above – are beginning to sound more and more like those Christian Cultists who keep predicting the Second Coming, and when it doesn’t happen – again – just keep moving the date back a few months.
.
As JP Barnum once quipped – “There’s one born every minute”.
120
You’ve got that one right. IEA is up to it’s Lefty/Pagan neck in the low carbon energy game and all the usual associated sustainability nonsense. No wonder IEA is peddling the 6C global temperature rise. It provides the rationale for it’s low carbon energy passion:
http://www.iea.org/aboutus/
“What we do.”
“The IEA is an autonomous organisation which works to ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for its 28 member countries and beyond. The IEA’s four main areas of focus are: energy security, economic development, environmental awareness, and engagement worldwide”.
30
So long as they can keep the politicans with the public purse strings footing the subsidies, they will be happy !!!
00
JFC I assume you were a good little boy who believed everything what daddy told him about the Worldy worldy?
One question for you gullible fool…
Why will the rate of warming be faster between now and 2030 (3.5 degrees in 18 years)
Than between now and 2100? (6 degrees in 88 years)?
And can I get your opinion on how much temperature rise we’ve had since the last century?
I.e in 12 years?
30
JFC,
You’re so well up to date on all the latest climate knowledge, so understanding, so empathetic to the plight of unbelievers and so wise. I remember my mother always told me, “Son, it’s important to learn from the wisdom of others.” Or was that my father? Nuts, I’ve forgotten! It could have been Confucius (I’ve heard he was very wise too; are you related?).
Anyway, you have convinced me so I’m forthwith converting to the church of AGW. No more denier for me. Everlasting Nirvana here I come!
Naturally, as a new member of your church I want to learn how I should live. So what do you recommend I do to bring my life into line with the teaching of AGW?…
…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…falls off his chair… …picks himself up… …dumb willy, you fell asleep… …it’s just a bad dream… …a nightmare really… …need more coffee!
20
Hmm. With no particular justification, my bet is 2 – 4 degrees celsius. However I won’t be around to see it…
04
Yes we better “do something” for the sake of our children grandchildren and future cute puppies.
We CAN control the weather.
(I’m not joking we actually can it’s called GEOENGINEERING)
And we can pay for it with our taxes.

read carefully. these are the same smart meters logan council, SE Qld, claims they want to install in low-income family houses to help them save money:
8 Dec: SMH: Sarah Whyte: Pique period begins for some smart meter users, but others see the light
THE Melbourne experience of smart meters, where they have been in operation for three years, is mixed: since implementing a smart meter in
his Fitzroy home three months ago, Roger Dargaville received his highest energy bill – which was more than $200 higher than his previous bill for the same period.
But this increase does not faze the father of two, who says the smart meter with Origin Energy will help him save more money in the long term – once he gets the hang of how to be more efficient in his usage…
Mr Dargaville, who says he is an ”energy nerd”, monitors the website that provides information on his electricity consumption (albeit with a 24-hour delay) every couple of days.
He thinks his latest bill was high because the meter was installed during winter and he is now copping higher electricity tariffs that come with the switch to smart meters…
But the chief executive officer of the electricity price comparison website GoSwitch.com.au, Ben Freund, who also has a smart meter, is not so convinced by their merits.
”I don’t see them as a tool that will bring down the cost of electricity,” he said.
***Mr Freund said families with young children were particularly at risk of incurring huge bills as they could not control when they consumed electricity.
”Your bill is more likely to go up than down unless you engineer a change in your lifestyle,” he said. ”Unless you’re going to start working the night shift at a call centre and sleep by the day, you’re going to be consuming the technology during peak hour.”
Mr Freund also said the smart meters gave consumers an ”illusion of choice”. ”Of course you get information, but what can you do with that?”
At the COAG meeting on Friday, the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, again pushed for a national rollout of smart meters, saying they would save families $250 a year on bills…
There are 400,000 smart meters installed in NSW. Victoria has been the only state to mandate a rollout.
A series of reviews has found that one of Victoria’s big mistakes was that it rolled out the meters to all consumers, including those who have little capacity to shift from peak to off-peak power.
Consultancy Frontier Economics estimated that savings from peak demand reduction were likely to be between $4.3 billion and $11.8 billion over the next 10 years, but the benefit would vary considerably from state to state.

***as with so much our govt does, it’s actually the poor who will suffer most. higher costs for peak-time electricity usage is definitely going to affect those who have to bathe the children, have dinner early, catch a bit of TV and get off to bed early, while the greenies can laze about the pool drinking cocktails, before entertaining their friends at a late-evening dinner party!

No shit?
Or is it, No shit!

Agree. It always works so that the rich, clever and organised do better. Unless you have the nous to change your power usage patters, it will cost you more. Poverty is really annoying. If you are rich, you probably own a fuel-efficient turbo diesel and are using 5.5 l/100km. If you are poor, you own some old bomb that eats petrol. Same with phone contracts. If you go on a $50 per month plan, you’ll never use all your capacity, but someone trying to save money on a $30 a month plan will have regular blowouts where they exceed their usage and have to pay $100.
However, smart meters will change usage patterns, and as a result will delay the time when we need new power plants. That is, it will reduce peak consumption – and peak time is the only time that all your power plants are needed.
06
No shit?
What it will actually do is put the people you most want to help into an even worse situation than they’re already in. I guess you’ve never actually lived under the conditions that energy rationing will produce. But when you don’t have refrigeration anymore you’ll begin to understand.
You really are a damned fool, John.

Well done, Christopher.
Throwing in a few empirical measurements among the Dohar faithful is akin to tossing alarm pheromone into an ant colony.
And where is our head tilting, blocked bile duct poster of late? Wondering how to extricate himself from the 6 degree-C rise in temp. debacle, no doubt.

The best scientific estimates suggest that the last time it was this hot was during the Eocene, more than 30 million years ago”
Eocene?
This is the dawning of the Age of the Eeyorecene mate where A. A. Milne meets Lewis Carroll.
Numbers, as well as words, now mean precisely what their authors intend them to mean.
Donkey data, gotten by pummeling the Pinata until it yields its goodies, are good for a bit of fun but, when used to underpin nations’ futures, lose their comedic aspect!

doha without monckton would be a total bore, but i have a tale to tell as i gather links while watching the england/india test match. will break it up:
an attempt to downplay what Obama meant, and max and min predictions of price rise given at the end, but that he said it is irrefutable:
Politifact: (Republican Congressman Mike) Pence claims that Obama said energy costs will skyrocket with a cap-and-trade plan
It didn’t take us long to find Barack Obama’s original quote, which came from a videotaped interview he did with the San Francisco Chronicle editorial board very early in the presidential campaign, January 2008….
“Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket,” Obama told the Chronicle . “Coal-powered plants, you know, natural gas, you name it, whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.”
Despite those potential cost cuts, there’s still little disagreement that consumers will pay for cap-and-trade, whether it’s $3,100 a year or $340. Because that hasn’t changed since Obama first said that utility rates would “necessarily skyrocket,” and because Pence got Obama’s words just right, we give Pence a True.

7 Dec: ABC: Candice Marcus: AGL fights price cut plan in court
Electricity retailer AGL has been granted an urgent hearing to challenge the energy regulator’s plan to cut South Australian electricity prices.
In a draft determination, the Essential Services Commission of South Australia (ESCOSA) foreshadowed a 8.1 per cent reduction in electricity prices for standing contracts…
Dick Whitington QC for AGL said the draft decision to reduce the standing contract by $27 per megawatt hour was made in error.
He said the Commission had exceeded its jurisdiction by pre-determining there were special reasons for a price change…
Mr Whitington said changes in the market, influenced by the carbon price legislation, did not apply to AGL because it was the sole supplier in South Australia.
“Fundamentally what they overlooked is that there is only one standing contract retailer in the state; my client. But my client has to look to supply customers under the three-year term of the price contract and my client has looked to long-term price lists and therefore is relatively unaffected by the types of market considerations that ESCOSA has had regard to,” he said…
The court will hear AGL’s application on December 17 to stay the Commission’s decision.

AGL top pick by SMH/AAP cos they’re fighting to stop the reduction:
7 Nov: SMH: AAP: Stocks to watch at close on Friday
AGK – AGL ENERGY LTD – up 10 cents at $14.34
Electricity retailer AGL Energy is seeking a stay on a foreshadowed move to reduce power costs in South Australia in the new year, a judge has been told.

27 Nov: SMH: Brian Robins: First electricity, now gas prices set to take off
Hard on the heels of steep rises in household electricity prices, gas prices are set to follow suit, with AGL seeking to raise prices by more than 10 per cent from the middle of next year.
The gas company has applied to the NSW government pricing regulator IPART, the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal, to raise gas prices by 10.4 per cent, which includes the anticipated rise in the consumer price index (CPI) for 2013-14.
The rise will mark the start of a steep round of price rises as the impact of rising gas exports from eastern Australia flows through to domestic prices.
It follows large rises in electricity prices, with a 20 per cent increase taking effect from July 1 alone.
With gas, several large gas export projects are being developed in Queensland which will push up domestic gas prices to international levels, which are around double those households pay at present.
The impact is compounded by the fact that AGL’s long term gas purchase contracts from gas producers are expiring over the next few years, leaving it fully exposed to the anticipated surge in gas prices…

check the AGL stories on price rises, or the court case above, both of CONSIDERABLE interest to the public, and see how little coverage they get in the MSM. then google “With the world at steak, eat more veggies” and u will get page after page after page of coverage in every possible Fairfax regional rag for the Meat Free Monday campaign of “Do Something” which receives taxpayer money, & has celebrities such as Lamb Man Sam Kekovic, darling Sir Richard (Branson), Pat Rafter, Maggie Beer etc to spruik for CAGW.
5 Dec: Herald Sun: Jordanna Schriever : South Australia leading nation on green energy, says Tim Flannery
SOUTH Australians are leading the nation in renewable energy uptake, a Climate Commission forum in Adelaide was told tonight.
Chief commissioner Professor Tim Flannery said wind energy made up about 26 per cent of the state’s electricity production, while one in five homes now had solar panels – the highest in the nation.
He said the decisions made this decade about the future of renewable energy would be “absolutely critical” in moving toward the best possible outcomes for the planet’s future.
“Energy use and prosperity are starting to de-couple and that’s what we need to see into the future,” he said…

SOONER RATHER THAN LATER, THE PUBLIC WILL FIND OUT – DESPITE THE MSM – AND WILL FIGHT BACK.
END OF STORY.

oops, the cricketers have gone for lunch, so i might as well add that i do realise the govt is desperately looking for ways to reduce electricity prices without touching the CARBON DIOXIDE TAX, but i do also realise the energy companies that have been in the scam from the very start – think ENRON – deserve to be thrown under the bus!

Here’s something that might interest you guys. Here is a scientist absolutely tipping the bucket on other climate scientists about their model assumptions and projections of CO2 emission reduction. It’s 58 minutes but full of interesting stuff. He is very scathing about how they do not update the inputs into their models to reflect new realities.
http://www.bris.ac.uk/cabot/events/2012/194.html
25
Here’s a hint.. A REAL scientist checks that every statement they make, especially in the introduction/abstract..is CORRECT !!!
A climate scientist,… parrots propaganda.
40
So what your saying is the models are shit. We knew that.
I have a new model called the JFC comment circulation model.
It only takes one input and that’s the official party line on CAGW and is especially sensitive to inputs such as “it’s worse than we thought” and “we have to do something” and “the science is settled” and it slavishly outputs those same sentiments.
Unfortunately this model doesn’t tolerate any new inputs unless they guarantee the same output and therefore it’s not a particularly SKILLFUL model.
One could some up the JFC comment circulation model in four words:
Shit in Shit out
60
Yeah, mod that one out. It was pretty obviously just baiting a conspiracist nutbager and as such a bit out of line. Sorry.

Bingo! I mean really, is there anything posted that will not draw an “conspiracist nutbager” comment from Catamon?

roflmao.. foot in mouth again KFC !!
at least read the introduction !!!!
he says “living in a world with a climate changing at rates unprecedented in human history”… BS !~!!!!!!!!
yet there has been little if any change in the last 16 years, and zero acceleration of warming since the LIA, just normal ups and down with the expected underlying warming since the LIA… thank goodness
When someone starts from the brainwashed stage, everything afterwards is not worth even bothering with !!

Oh dear, the warm mongers really have no sense of humour, do they?
About a year ago several of us at a party were having our ears bashed by someone twatting on about how renewables would solve all our problems for less money and save the world, to boot.
I interjected that he was preaching to the choir since I, at least, made extensive use of wind and solar and it was just fantastic.
He seized my hand like a long lost comrade and demanded to know what sort of system I had at my place.
“I hang out my washing.”
It took a minute or two for the penny to drop but the good news is he’s never spoken to me since.

Climate change, dead man walking!

don’t think Fiona wrote this for laughs, but that’s the effect it had on me. it’s let’s blame the hosts, using anonymous sources for the most part:
8 Dec: Guardian: Fiona Harvey: Climate change talks deadlocked on final day of UN summit
Talks on a new climate deal ground (???) on through Friday night in Qatar, as countries failed to agree on key issues including: rescuing the Kyoto protocol, finance and compensation for poor countries suffering the effects of climate change, and how to structure a proposed new global climate change agreement…
“We have worked without a break and people realise we need to go home with something,” said one delegate…
Rumours and counter-rumours were flying as ministers met in small groups and huddles of twos and threes to hammer out compromises. Some meetings were fractious, with delegates conscious of the need avoid a breakdown, which would be disastrous for the image of these talks with the eyes of the world upon the 195 governments meeting in Doha…
One participant said: “It’s like the Qataris think it’s a World Cup, but this is not a game of football – these are serious negotiations about the future of the planet. They have not taken this seriously – they have not got a grip.”
Jake Schmidt, international climate policy director at the Natural Resources Defence Capital, said: “There’s a cultural mismatch between the Qatari team and this process. They think deal-making is beneath them. They are not managing very well.”
One delegate accused the Qataris of going home early on Thursday instead of working through the night on the draft texts, as hosts are expected to…
Qatar, the world’s third biggest exporter of natural gas, is also the world’s biggest per capita emitter of carbon – 50 tonnes a year, compared to 17 for the US and 1.4 for India. The country makes the majority of its $170bn annual income from oil and gas…

Of course, Reality will win the contest !
The Democratic donkey representing Maya could as well be shown by the Republican elephant.
Integrity will be restored to government science and sanity restored to society when both creatures go over the rapidly approaching Fiscal Cliff – Reality, again.

So did daH Monkster get the flick because he told porkies and dressed up to get in to the place and then expose himself, or just because he’s an idiot and promoting the whole “no warming for XX years” garbage.
Maybe a good caption for that photo of the robed Monkton would be:
“Show me the change rooms little man, and i’ll show you my microphone that’s thiiiiiiiiis big.”
Still, hopefully it keeps relevance deprivation syndrome at bay for the poor man for a while and gives everyone a good giggle.

Yes Cat, I think the IPCC should hire Monckton as their “skeptic” joke spokesman. The good bit is he doesn’t have to change what he is doing at all.

Catamon, John and JFC… Where are all your friends at?
Why do we see no more than about 3 or 4 pro government, pro agenda 21 patsies on this website?
10
Bingo! I mean really, is there anything posted here that will not draw an “Agenda 21″comment from Sonny?
00
Catamon, Why don’t you do your own research on my comment history and provide a statistical analysis of the proportion of my comments which feature reference(s) to “Agenda 21”. I would hazard a guess of 1-2% (oh my god that’s 21 backwards! Coincidence?!)
Why do you guys try to ridicule discussion of Agenda 21? It’s as if you want to make us out as conspiracy nutjobs for speaking about a document which is readily available…
Again, it’s a matter of research. Google is your friend.
