Last week the NSW State government foolishly gave Malcolm Turnbull a pedestal to advertise his favourite ideology (and possible also help the investment profile of his son.*) Then they remembered why he was so unpopular he nearly lost the 2016 national election — even though he’d been handed the gift of a record 90 seat majority created by Tony Abbott. They also remembered what a bomb the climate debate is in any election — where 90% of everyone says they care about the climate but almost no one actually votes to try to change global weather.
So one week later, Toxic Turnbull has been dropped like the radioactive-Labor-lite-rock that he is.
What were they thinking? In the last ten years, the only time “climate change” has been a winner is when a politician campaigns against it — like the Axe The Tax plan of 2013. In 2019 Labor lost the unloseable election by being anti-coal. The recent historic crushing of the conservatives in WA who had an anti-coal agenda must have shaken the party controllers to the core.
Last week Turnbull was offered the gift position to chair a new body called Net Zero Emissions and the Clean Economy Board. Two days later the MP for the Upper Hunter (a coal mining area) resigned because of rape allegations. Suddenly a byelection was called — and the conservative state government was faced with an existential dilemma. They couldn’t afford to lose one seat, yet Turnbull — who was unaware of the byelection coming — was creating headlines calling for moratoriums on coal mines when the voters the NSW government suddenly cares about are in a coal mining electorate.
One Nation and Mark Latham (a former Opposition Labor leader, for foreign readers) pressed the obvious DefCon1 button. The Turnbull appointment “anti-coal” and an “insult to the electorate”.
“Malcolm Turnbull should never have been appointed as the NSW Government’s Climate Chief, because, in reality he is an anti-coal activist with clear property financial interest that have led him to lobby against job-creating coal projects in the Upper Hunter region,” Mr Latham said.
Malcolm Turnbull sees a media conspiracy, not a voter backlash
Up pops the Big Conspiracy Shield:
Malcolm Turnbull dumped from role on NSW government clean energy board after ‘media backlash’
Former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull says the NSW government has capitulated to a “ferocious campaign” from the media after his appointment to a clean energy board was overturned.
Mr Turnbull, who has been a fierce critic of News Corp, said the government had caved to pressure from the Murdoch press by reversing his appointment. “There was a pretty ferocious campaign, a vendetta, really, in the characteristic way that News Corp operates,” Mr Turnbull said. “Its goal was to bully the state government into not appointing me chair of this net zero board.”
–– ABC and or MSN (Microsoft News?)
And thus the conversation wheel turns back to the media. Nobody mention the voters.
If there is any bullying here, it’s by the electorate who are fed up with the regressive UpperClass, anti-coal, anti-jobs and anti-cheap energy plans. This is the power of the voters. (Isn’t that a great and marvellous sentence to read in 2021?)
Appointing Turnbull was like getting my “pants pulled down” says NSW Deputy leader:
That bad eh?
NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro said on Nine Radio this morning that he was embarrassed he had agreed to Mr Turnbull’s appointment.
“I gave the benefit of the doubt to the Liberals and the benefit of the doubt to Malcolm Turnbull and he pulled my pants down within 48 hours,” Mr Barilaro said.
–– ABC and or MSN (Microsoft News?)
The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) calls it “bad timing” and “bad luck” for Turnbull, who “probably had to go” given the situation — but would have been fine if he’d been appointed after the election (because who cares what the voters want?).
But the SMH editors suddenly care about coal workers and argue that committing to the anti-coal agenda would help the coal industry, because since five minutes ago they are investment gurus and global coal supply experts:
Since coal demand is likely to fall, if too many new mines are approved, it will likely cause an oversupply in coming decades. Such a coal glut could threaten the financial viability of the coal mining companies, which in turn raises serious concerns about whether they will have the cash to remediate the scars all over the upper hunter left by open-cut mines.
How to lose elections — Flog the climate scare:
Turnbull tried to push through an emission trading scheme in 2009, and lost to the climate vote as opposition leader, he nearly lost the National Election of 2016, he lost the party leadership again in 2018 trying to force through a National Energy Guarantee. The Climate Horse is so dead it’s a fossil. When will they learn?
*Does Malcolm Turnbulls son Alex still benefit from a pro renewables policy in Australia?
[2017] Malcolm Turnbull should come clean and explain to his party and the public that his son, Alex is heavily invested in wind power outfit, Infigen and did so at a time when it was on the brink of bankruptcy.
In one of the luckiest bets of all time (see our post here), Alex Turnbull managed to buy in when Infigen shares were a measly $0.20, just before his Dad signed Australia up to the Paris Climate Change agreement, after which they rocketed to $1.20.
If Turnbull’s family invests in renewable energy, why isn’t that mentioned each time he talks about it?
Posts showing that voters don’t vote for “Climate Change”
- 42% of US adults don’t want to pay even $12 a year to stop climate change
- 54% of Australians skeptics of man-made global warming, 80% don’t donate to environment or vote for it
- Even after heavy loaded survey lists climate disasters, half of Brits don’t want to pay a cent
- A fickle faith: Climate change concerns evaporate in US polls
- Not climate change: 70% of Australians want cheap reliable electricity, 61% biggest worry is “cost of living”.
- 50% of Americans don’t want to spend *even one more dollar* on renewables
- 2019 poll: 54% of Australians are still skeptics of man-made climate catastrophe
- 2017: Everyone wants “clean energy” but they don’t want to pay for it.
- 62% of Australians don’t want to pay even $10 a month for renewables
- Australia: more skeptics than believers, and few really care about “Climate change”
- Only 3% of Americans name “environment” as top issue.

Common sense appears to have prevailed…

No, it is just plain old political expediency of a temporary nature. Give NSW Energy Minister Matt Kean a month and he’ll be back flapping his jaw and pushing windmills down our throats again. He’s the current golden boy of the powerful lefty Photios/Sinodinos faction of the NSW Libs. I wouldn’t doubt that they had a finger in the Turnbull pie until electoral loss became more important than jobs for the green boys.
650
Beowulf you nailed it.
280
What’s the betting he’ll be back just as soon as the by-election is out of the way?
I can hear them now, telling toxic Mal the greenies’ pal: “Just hold on Mal, we’ll give it back to you as soon as we’ve fooled the electorate in the Upper Hunter by-election”.
“In the interim you can give Newscorp a serve, but leave us out of it – we don’t want to get the journo’s off side”.
300
Yes. As I have insisted before, politics WILL NOT correct itself. Neither will the insanity they have all signed onto, as a lifetime commitment.
270
Give him a month he might be out of a job. His commitment to this appointment was too strong to recant so easily.
00
That’s got to be the shortest term of Chairmanship in History.
Well done Waffles, you’re still a leader. Go brag about your new found found fame now!
Now, where does Matt Kean live??
90
In 2020, the majority of Australians (59%) continue to view climate change as a critical threat to Australia’s vital interests in the coming decade.
https://poll.lowyinstitute.org/themes/climate-change-and-energy/
On average, Australians are prepared to spend $4 billion p.a. to prevent climate change:
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-12-17/what-youd-spend-to-halt-climate-change-and-what-you-could-get/11784704
159
Well truth be told while the money printing machines are still warm after going brrrrrrr all 2020 why not 4 billion more?
240
So why do less than 10% even pay the few dollars to ‘carbon offset’ for their flights?
Every virtue signaller will tell a survey that they’d pay thousands of dollars a year. Unfortunately, what they tell a survey is about as believable as your average climate model.
560
Half the population don’t think its a problem.
270
Yes Simon. But if they have to fork out for the telephone no power bills they will immediately think otherwise. Perhaps we should spend the $4 billion on helping alleviate poverty in the Third World, where I have actually lived and worked, unlike most here. That would actually do something rather than line merchant banks and renewables carpetbaggers pockets…
You and your lunatic friends need to take a cold shower and actually read the science here rather than the scaremongering hand outs from activists masquerading as “science”.
Perhaps you may like to consider the latest satellite temps from UAH. https://www.drroyspencer.com/
Gone nowhere since the late 1990s unlike those false constructions proferred by NOAA, the BOM and others, or the models that never ever work, or over 40 years of alarmist and completely false predictions.
And the climate is always changing. Its only the deluded who somehow tell us that we need to be trying to do something about it. Maybe reading about King Canute jousting at the waves may wake you up to what is happening here.
350
UAH 6.0 1979-2021 shows a statistically significant warming trend consistent with that expected from an increase in atmospheric greenhouse gas concentration.
120
They don’t know what the expected increase in atmospheric temperature is, by a rising CO2 concentration.
The actual physical science behind the theory is so broken they just make up numbers and tell you it’s all true.
And the existence of the Medieval Ice Age (1300 – 1870) demonstrates it’s all nonsenses.
200
The side bar alarms Simon, then adds a stupid comment and heads for the hills. A shinkicker.

China’s coal use offsets global cuts
A big increase in coal-fired power stations opening in China offset all the closures in the rest of the world last year, a report says.
Coal plants with a collective capacity of 37.75 gigawatts were retired globally last year, with the US shutting down 11.3 gigawatts and the European Union 10.1 gigawatts, according to analysis by Global Energy Monitor, a group that monitors fossil fuel trends. The total reduction was close to the record of 37.8 gigawatts that closed in 2015.
However, China opened 38.4 gigawatts of new plants in the same period, just over three quarters of the global total of 50.3 gigawatts of new coal-fired capacity. China is building 88.1 gigawatts of coal power and a further 158.7 gigawatts are planned, totalling 246.8 gigawatts, half of all new coal plant capacity in development globally.
China’s continued reliance on coal is undermining the UK’s plan to make the closure of coal plants a key theme of COP26, the UN climate conference due to be held in Glasgow in November.
Coal supplied only 1.6 per cent of the UK’s electricity last year, down from almost 25 per cent five years ago. The country’s three remaining coal-fired power stations are due to close by 2024.

Simon, with the PDO going into its long negative phase we can expect temperatures to remain subdued. La Nina or neutral conditions will prevail because of a quiet sun, so the new hiatus should continue on its merry way.
Its not in the AGW script.

The My World Survey and Analytics, brokered by the UN, shows a different picture.
The survey commenced in 2015. On April 29 2020, The data records responses from 9,736,484 people, from a wide range of countries, education levels and age-groups. The gender balance is close to 50%.
The first priority is a good education, followed by better health care, better job opportunities, an honest and responsive government, affordable and nutritious food, and protection against crime and violence.
Action taken on climate change comes LAST.

but if the question was ” would you spend 4B$ knowing China won’t reduce, so the 4B$ is does nothing, and is wasted? ” the numbers might change.

I don’t think Turnbull is LaborLite so much as he’s UltraGreen
350
Ultra – Malcolm. Any colour that it takes?
170
Angus
ruthless merchant banker.
40
Since I brought this up in the previous post, I would like to know why is good that Turnbull gets hounded out of a position for speaking out, where when Peter Ridd did the same, that was bad.
/Two faced
151
Not really, just the difference between academic freedom and political trash weasels really. Plus in most jobs you would think your performance would be under close scrutiny for the first few months at least where if you put a foot wrong you would be in trouble. the fact Turnbull only puts feet in the right direction for private family profit is another issue entirely.
510
Free speech is not free speech, but contingent?
/two faced
042
It is in the world of political appointments, we can cry foul on any issue whether it be political appointments or long term highly regarded academics but one of the main issues would come up to procedure. JCU completely ignored theirs while the Turnbull removal was just the changing of political wind in those ‘jobs’.
Now if we got rid of these carpet baggers that are political appointments I would fully endorse a more robust protection of people speaking their ‘truth to power’.
210
keep digging, you are almost at China
233
Keep digging? Intellectually barren. Are you by chance an academic because you sure sound like many that I work with.
50
Are you an academic too?
04
Well Shortie
Also Turnbull is committed to destroying the Libs. He has the Labs on side to retain carbon trading, but there is always the danger that Libs in power will gropw a spine and destroy his gravy train. For the last two elections he has white anted the Libs. Any Lib who supports him is being disloyal to the party. Also stupid.
180
“Also Turnbull is committed to destroying the Libs.”
That isn’t so. He is committed to destroying the Conservatives and the rest pf the Rabid Right which is both entirely different and a very worthwhile commitment indeed. All power to his arm.
The sooner Conservatives are consigned to the dustbin of political history the better. Mind you, if left alone Conservatives will gradually fade from the political landscape but a bit of a kick-a-long to speed their demise wouldn’t go amiss.
04
Amazing how ill-willed and intolerant the left can be isn’t it?
If only you knew what a conservative was?
60
“If only you knew what a conservative was?”
I think I do Jo as I used to be one. At least I thought I was. I don’t like the power trades unions wield. I thought Howard, by and large was a good PM. I believed in working hard at my job and taking pride in what I do. I thought small government was preferable. That Australians, should as far as possible, not expect the government to bail them out. That the effect of humans on climate change is not well understood. That the major problem with climate models is that the programs used are constructed by humans who do not know all the factors that impact on the climate.
I gave Conservatism away when Turnbull was stalked by Abbott and eventually resigned. I consider myself a small l liberal and definitely not a Conservative.
The comments below are In answer to your statement “If only you knew what a Conservative is”
Conservatives have no understanding of the problems faced by many who cannot get a job. Conservatives believe everyone can get a job so not having one is “your fault” and that the unemployed should receive no more than around $40 per day.
Conservatives consider universal health care is not s good deal and those that can afford it should pay for private health care. That, of course, results in a two tier system that disadvantages the poor.
Conservatives are convinced that universities are hot beds of left wing academics trying to usurp the Australian way of life. From personal experience I know that is very fart from the truth.
They are also convinced teachers are trying to subvert our children and so destroy Australian values. My wife is a teacher and she states that is certainly not the case. In her words ‘our major emphasis is trying to control the little buggers”.
Conservatives firmly believe that climate change is a conspiracy and a scam generated by scientists to line their own pockets. The weight of evidence while not by any means as conclusive as climate scientists claim, is that humans do affect the climate’
Conservatives are anti-immigration and believe it should be stopped as “Australia is full’. As Australia has avery low population density that claim is not supported.
As with climate Conservatives believe renewables are a scam and the government should ban subsidies and build more coal fired power stations. As private developers are not prepared to do that the question that Conservatives never ask is why don’t they?
04
Just to refute one aspect of your diatribe,
This is due to the distortions in the energy market (caused by subsidies to the renewabubbles and the get out of jail free card of being designated as “semi-scheduled” so they don’t have to guarantee their pricing bids) making for huge uncertainty in the economics of operating a base load thermal power station.
I’ll leave it for others to point out the failings in the rest of your post.
40
Gave you your answer last thread oh two faced one ! Turnbull has been sacked by the liberals three times on the climate issue ~ Three times !
Do you think he could maybe get that to four or five or even six and you both would still be shocked and surprised together?
430
Turnbull is another of those green fools that are blinded by their egos.
He, however, takes the cake for being the most egotistical fool of the lot.
Why it takes the Liberals (and the Nationals – in this case) so long to wake up, is one of those mysteries of the universe. Do they not understand the concepts of “Vested Interest”, “Conflict of Interest” and “National Suffrage”?
320
Because the very rich and well connected can do you a lot of good. Note the number odf Libs who persued other careers when MT lost his job. They are awake but distracted.
00
The point – you missed it again, so your score on that matter is perfect.
All you (and this you extends to all posters on this blog bar a few) care about is a dogmatic adherence to a discredited ideology and an inability have an opinion without having sky news telling what and when.
136
Back at you Pete and word for word almost but in your case there are just ideologues whereas we are the realists .
240
I don’t watch Sky News, or, indeed, any TV news, really, aside from rare occasions, such as when the French president is announcing new lockdown rules, or similar. I do look at a variety of other “news” sources though.
Does that mean I cannot form or have opinions on anything?
170
According to Peter Fitzroy’s logic: yes, that’s what it means.
He’d like you to: “shut up and go away”.
190
Frankly I think he should be barred from this site for being intentionally obtuse. I can conclude with conviction that he lives in a coconut.
50
“Frankly I think he should be barred from this site for being intentionally obtuse. ”
Course you do Glen Michel. Conservatives are all for Free Speech as long as it agrees with their, outmoded, beliefs but if it doesn’t it should be banned. Yeah right.
And as for being intentionally obtuse that is far better than being unintentionally obtuse
07
Fitz.
You are right Fitz.
I will watch the ABC, so I can be told the truth.
I won’t watch sky news.
I will read the guardian.
My ideology needs correction.
So I will not read or view anything by:
Rita Panahi
Daisy Cousins
Amanda Vanstone
Ashleigh Gillon
Graham Richardson
Sharri Markson
Catherine McGregor
Jacinta Price
Nicholas Reece
Stephen Conroy
et al
We can’t let my ideology get in the way of truth.
120
‘ … inability to have an opinion without having sky news telling what and when.’
As we discussed the other day, if Bruce Gordon hands over WIN to Nine then Sky will vanish. On the surface it appears to be only a commercial consideration, but its more than that.
The people who come to this blog are global warming sceptics, our opinion cannot be easily changed. In fact we are leading the charge and the Sky team come here for the latest, keep up the good work as counterpoint.
151
Maybe you could start a Malcolm Turnbull FUND RAISING campaign to fight against this massive injustice Peter!
I reckon you and Lucy could raise enough funds to donate $440 Million to Lucys mates in the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
And then Mal could get his job back (unemployed poor man) and earn a quick quid!
And if there’s any left over, they could fix the Marovo Lagoon that he poisoned with his money making logging company!
290
If Peter Rudd’s family was heavily invested in ensuring the demise of JCU then the two cases could be considered similar.
200
People power got shod of the clown, good riddance.
190
Peter Ridd was hired to do research, which requires objectivity.
Turnbull never got hounded for speaking out, that’s a load of rubbish as you perfectly well know … you invented this “fact” like you always do. He was hired for a new position specially created so he could do advocacy, based on a preordained conclusion. Turnbull doesn’t represent a considered objective opinion, he represents a solution looking to justify itself by finding a problem. No one doubts Turnbull’s commitment to make money out of Climate Change, that was never in question … we simply don’t like the man and don’t want him in any seat of power.
440
The difference is PF, is that Turnbull is speaking 100% garbage.
Ridd is talking science.
Please, prove me wrong.
120
Peter Ridd was speaking truth to science, Malcolm Turnbull is a promoter of the AGW scam, speaking truth to further his investment portfolio against the wellbeing of the national economy., and the majority can see that.
210
Coal over supply? only if you ban exports. Africa, India, China proceeding full steam ahead (pun intended). Although I guess China wont want any of our nasty coal in their current precious always offended state.
250
Malcolm Ex.
300
The day I heard that Turnbull had rolled Abbott there was a mental rust chip indicating that I should remember a pertinent reference.
Which later surfaced – it was to a chapter in Kahlil Gibran’s “Thoughts and Meditations”- “The Silver Plated Turd”
I guess that toilet freshener manufacturers have known for years that it is hard to get rid of a cloying old fart
210
“I guess that toilet freshener manufacturers have known for years that it is hard to get rid of a cloying old fart”
Well I guess the Manly voters showed how it can be done
04
The by election coming up in Hunter was the only thing stopping the LINO’s from their goal !
180
G’day r r,
I doubt the backflip will be enough to get the by-election win for Gladys. The coalition, with its initial decision to give Turnbull any job, but that one in particular, demonstrated extremely poor judgement at Cabinet level and absolute disregard for either coal workers and/or realists who want reliable and cheap electric power.
The reversal in retrospective panic will not hide that poor judgement.
(But I guess there may be someone who could outstrip one of the independents…???)
Cheers
Dave B
PS I have to vote in the by-election, and am still facing the dilemma of how to put 3 or more candidates last.
300
Agree with you completely David, too little too late and yeah so you’ve got Liberal Greens, Labor Greens and then you have The Greens that’s a tough choice I don’t envy you at all .
200
Dahhh,
It’s easy, Overnight I realised that we have optional (!) preferential voting for the NSW Parliament, so I can just take the option of not voting for the nasties.
Don’t know how I failed to remember that as I posted my reply yesterday…
Cheers
Dave B
80
I agree, voting nowadays is like arranging losers to appear like winners but remember not voting is not a protest, its a surrender.
140
Malcolm Turnbull gets sacked because he spoke truth to power. Coal is too dominant and wrecking the planet, so he had to go.
The very dark fossil-fuel cabals that run NSW came out in force to have him machine-gunned. They’ll replace him with a nice tame FF sock puppet. I trust the FF shills are really proud of their work!
252
I think someone needs a hug !
170
Or something.
It’s really strange that anyone would expose themself like that.
90
“Coal is too dominant and wrecking the planet ….”
Too dominant? Wrecking the planet? Is that you Greta?
340
Or worth considering, Hunter Valley coal mining …

Aside from residential and commercial interests, the new Prime Minister also owns 20 pastoral rural properties in the Upper Hunter, Scotts Creek and Rossgole in NSW through his private company,…
180
The NSW Liberals do not understand “vested interest” or “Conflict of interest”.
Malcolm Turnbull has his nose so far into the trough he needs to be on the public drip feed to breathe.
210
Ssshhhh! He is speaking truth to the power point.
Go on Tilba, we are fascinated … tell us more about the cabals … who are these people really?
210
TT thinks Turdball is not white enough to criticize or something like that. Another sponge brain from the factory of indoctrinated education.
30
He’s just giving us the third degree again
00
“Truth to power” Oh dear, another one of those catch-phrases that doesn’t mean anything to anyone with more than half a brain. Turnbull is a multi-millionaire ex banker, and ex politician, he personifies “power” in Australia.
It’s always amusing to see supposed free thinking, egalitarian champions of the people, and opponents of authority eagerly supporting multinational corporations, banks, and potentially corrupt (ex)politicians who are very clearly taking advantage of situations to increase their control over the populace while increasing profits.
If you are so definite that there is some sort of fossil fuel cabal, how about you tell us the names of all these people? how about you share evidence of their dealings with fossil fuel companies? Otherwise, it sounds exactly like something you’d be more than happy to label as a conspiracy theory.
190
James Murphy you write
“If you are so definite that there is some sort of fossil fuel cabal, how about you tell us the names of all these people? how about you share evidence of their dealings with fossil fuel companies?”
Here’s a link that shows just that.
https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/rnc-2020-trump-climate-denial-a9687851.html
Here’s a snippet.
“Throughout his presidency, Mr Trump has cosied up to the oil and gas industry. At the height of the pandemic in April, he tweeted: “We will never let the great U.S. Oil & Gas Industry down. I have instructed the Secretary of Energy and Secretary of the Treasury to formulate a plan which will make funds available so that these very important companies and jobs will be secured long into the future!”
03
‘ … he spoke truth to power.’
You have a nice way with words, but unfortunately CO2 doesn’t cause global warming.
211
Hi Mike reed here
Well what do you know? Malcom’s son Alex made a motza out of Hunt signing up to the Paris accord when Mal was the PM.Okay there must be again some
advantage (financially) for Matt Kean to be pushing – the climate change malarky -only to feather his own pecuniary nest -either directly or indirectly.Cheez what a self interest con job are we being put through every time to save the planet from a failed climate change conjecture.
Cheers Mike Reed
290
Ok ,
Turnbull -his son makes money from Infegen after signing Paris Agreement through Hunt. Now Matt Kean want’s (Turnbull to give kudos even more Green Schemes) to probably enhance his financial interest -directly or indirectly.-its kind of clear.
Cheers Mike Reed

I remember reading the “42% of Americans poll” about five years ago when I first realized the support for the “fighting climate change” movement was a mile wide and an inch deep. based on how little money people would voluntarily pay for the “fighting” climate change effort,
Then I though about biases in climate change polling that would make the results look even worse than they were:
I believe:
People will be biased to say climate change is a problem because that is popular to say.
People who disagree may lie, or say they don’t know, as a habit to avoid leftist backlash on the subject.
In a poll, any question about how much money one would be willing to pay to fight climate change does not require spending any of your money.
It is too easy to pretend you would contribute more when it is just a poll question, to virtue signal, with no money changing hands.
So I believe polls are biased toward having people exaggerate their concern about climate change, and exaggerate how much money they would be willing to pay to fight climate change.
I’m not sure I could answer a climate change poll honestly — the questions would be worded in a way that my opinions could not fit in.
I love global warming here in Michigan USA and want more.
My plants love more CO2 in the air, and want more,
And I would be willing to donate my life savings toward climate change — to promote MORE global warming … at least until we can retire our snow shovels.
Of course my life savings are only $45.75 so far … but thats growing bigger every day with 1% interest !
make yourself feel goos.
220
Yes you are correct.
Turnbull looks down on those people, thinks he is the smart guy in the room, and it would be impossible for normal people to think for themselves. The only explanation he can come up with is News Corp.
The voters understand that unless they fight hard, they will be stomped on. That’s become the reality unfortunately … the ruling class simply cannot leave well enough alone.
300
There was a time when I would have rejected the notion of people believing that there was a “ruling class” in Australia. However, within the NSW Liberal Party, that belief seems to be alive and active.
Turnbull is one of those.
He’s a snob. He’s up himself. He thinks his defecations don’t smell.
It’s enough to make a voter vote Labor in Upper Hunter.
I would. And, it would send them a strong message that, to the voter, coal is anything but dead.
241
I would say that in every culture there are some people who end up making decisions for other people … even in Australia, and it was the same going back the the British Empire.
However, there’s still degrees to it. Suppose the question of nuclear energy comes up and various people (hopefully knowledgeable) write up various proposals and then we vote on it … those people putting forward the yes / no campaigns need to make their case in a way that ordinary people understand. There are risks, there are costs and there are benefits … making the whole thing a difficult decision, but necessary to figure it out.
Obviously some key people will come out influential, but only because they could put forward a clear and understandable case. I’m OK with that type of influence, although there might be imperfections, at least it represents a genuine discussion.
This advocacy stuff that Turnbull was getting hired for is something else … there never is an actual vote on the issue, nor even genuine discussion … what we get is a small group of people given a massive megaphone to shout down opponents and demand their way is the only way. They aren’t interested in a good faith weighing up of the pros and cons, they want to push out every other option like coal, gas, and whatever. I’m perfectly happy for Turnbull to have a debate, explain his argument, attempt to convince and audience … but I doubt that will ever happen.
That’s why the voters are rapidly hostile and distrustful these days … because they don’t get consulted.

If Politicians in all States and Territories of Australia are so adamant that RE is ‘the go’ then surely all government buildings would only operate when RE is available, NOW?
Otherwise they are subsidy sucks!

Turnbull is the very definition of a narcissist, he despises the coalition because they dumped him when they realised he could not win and election. But in his mind they dumped him because they knew he would win and they didn’t want to cede total power to him. Since then he has waged a hate campaign against Morrison and the coalition.
How over the last 14 years have we had Rudd, Gillard, Turnbull, three individuals with obvious sociopathic personality flaws become PM?
260
Totally disagree with your comments neil.
Turnbull is the very definition of the elite who realised they could never win an election without bullshitting.
If the NSW elite were fair dinkum then they would allow high rise inner city buildings all around point piper and kick sydney university off the hectares they waste.
80
People could see Turnbull as Labor in disguise but you sum up the core personality nicely, psychopaths will only accept one outcome, theirs!

Neil,
“How over the last 14 years have we had Rudd, Gillard, Turnbull, three individuals with obvious sociopathic personality flaws become PM?”
Just lucky , I guess.

I see that Gladys is defending Malcolm. Therefore, she has lost my vote. When are the Libs going to wake up that Malcolm and Matt are not one of them, but green pieces of crap that foul the political landscape? I am getting sick and tired of these “no life” politicians like Kean, who has never had any real life experiences of what is actually HAPPENING in our world.
260
Kean has just been politically king hit.
‘Facing a cabinet revolt and defeat in a critical by-election, Matt Kean has privately apologised to colleagues for appointing Malcolm Turnbull to a government emissions reduction board.’ (Daily Tele)
The Deputy Premier was talking to Peta last night and said he took some of the blame (to maintain Coalition solidarity) but the green Libs were the drivers in appointing Turnbull.
Gladys is safe with her renewable zones, but anything beyond that would indicate she doesn’t have political nous.
130
There should be no such thing as “green libs”.
Liberals can have genuine care and concern to apply sensible preservation and management policies to the environment (proper management of forests to prevent fuel load build-up, weed control, feral pest control etc.), but “greens” like Kean and Turnbull belong in the Greens Party itself.

Totally disruptive, the word Megalomania comes to mind?

A. Because this one has Flim Flannery!

He is chairman of Low Carbon Australia, a board member of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, ”
And the nsw fire chief, in chief, is there to advise on how to ensure that the fires just keep on coming.
Otherwise how could you have a global warming council.
We are being insulted, abused and spat upon by these unworthies. Figureheads for a fee.

Have the Liberal party thrown Turdcoat out yet and if not, why not. ?
110
As far as I know Malcolm Turnbull is still a member of the Liberal Party. I agree that he should not be.
At this time almost half of the serving Liberal Members and Senators in the Federal Parliament voted for Turnbull. They have to be swept out as well but it is not an easy task.
40
Do you all remember that quote from Paul Keating “unflushable turd ” regarding J Howard – thats Malcolm all the way.

Just sayin’
Seems that due to “advances in US low water use toilets” you can now buy an accessory known as a “turd masher”

The COVID-19 pandemic reduced man-made CO2 emissions by 5 times Australia’s annual emissions.
However, this made no measurable impact on atmospheric CO2 levels
https://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/ccgg/trends/
The oceans contain 50 times more CO2 than the atmosphere and when the oceans warm CO2 is released as per Henry’s Law.
If Australia reduced its CO2 emissions to ZERO this would also have no measurable impact on atmospheric CO2 levels.
The “Greenhouse Gas Effect” THEORY proposed by Svente Arrhenius in 1896 was debunked four years later by Anders Angstrom
150
Australia contributes .156 ppm to the global CO2 burden, so it is patently clear that we have zilch to offer the warmists except propaganda value.

Warning to Biden: Tony Blair splurged wildly, too — and left the UK broke
By James Delingpole
Private Finance Initiatives – Sums up Liberals in NSW, as does Kean & Liberal Cabinet Stupidity in nominating TurdBull
Blair’s re-election victory in 2001 gave him a larger majority. Then the mask slipped and the spending spree began.
By 2010, when the Conservatives finally returned to power, Labour’s outgoing chief secretary to the Treasury left a note on his successor’s desk. It read — accurately — “I’m afraid to tell you there’s no money left.” In that period, government debt as a share of GDP had almost doubled to 71.3 percent, up from 39.9 percent.
Britain was effectively bust.
Blair and his sidekick Brown might never have got away with this reckless profligacy if they had been more honest. But devious to the end, they hid the true scale of their pillaging through sleight of hand: A large chunk of the spending was concealed “off balance sheet” in so-called Private Finance Initiatives, whereby private companies were paid to build and manage public infrastructures. The catch was that taxpayers ended on the hook for roughly three times more than it would have cost normally.
Only one good thing could be said for that economically suicidal era: If Blair had known about “Quantitative Easing” — a k a money printing — it would have been a lot more expensive still. Biden, however, does know about money printing and no doubt believes that Modern Monetary Theory lends economic legitimacy to the notion of spending money you haven’t got on projects the public mostly doesn’t need.
But what happens when that Magic Money Tree has no more leaves to pluck? Under Biden, it seems likely that the US economy is going to find out sooner rather than later. The answer is unlikely to be pretty.
And also summed up, surprisingly, by ABC Series “Utopia”
Worth watching now in hindsight.

The trouble with Malcolm is he became Australia’s “wannabe” Al Gore. I think he saw his chance at political stardom based on the ideology of AGW/CC back in the 1990’s. But similar to Al Gore he couldn’t get to be leader of our free nation using the AGW/ Climate change alone. He had to wait for a Tony Abbott misstep to become PM. Boy, did Australia miss a bullet by not having him PM earlier. In the short time in that role he really wrecked the Liberal Party brand of politics.
120
Misstep?
No, an illusion …
https://web.archive.org/web/20180807112958/http://stopturnbull.com/relentless-undermining-2009-2015
30
Before Abbott was attacked PM Howard and Treasurer Costello were undermined and when in 2007 the Howard Government was defeated by Rudd Labor and the Liberals chose Brendan Nelson as their Leader in Opposition he was undermined.
The stated objective (stopturnbull) long ago was to wreck the Liberal Party (and Nationals) and create an alliance of left leaning MPs including Labor and Greens to form a single almost impossible to defeat at elections governing cooperative.
40
I was originally going to write “whitening”, but I thought I would tone it done a little. The misstep I was referring to was the Prince Phillip knighthood. Which, personally I didn’t think was a bad thing when you consider all the charity work Phil the greek has done. Also his “The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award” which a lot of Australians benefited from. Unfortunately, the woke media didn’t see it that way and there was a bit of a news vacuum at the time. When you say “illusion” – is that another way of saying white ghost?

The Liberal party is basically a joke now. They represent nothing for the conservative. I cant think of one thing, and a slightly lower tax rate and converting from coal to gas doesn’t count. If Menzies were alive he would start another party. They’re a disgrace.
80
The Liberal Party has split but not publicly, internally the left faction or Turnbull Party as the Coalition was called when the PM by that name was appointed (Black Hand Faction) are in a power struggle with the traditional Menzies Australian Liberal Party centre-right. Unfortunately the leftists have gained power and influence inside the Liberal Party executive and parliamentary members. However, the left are losing ground slowly but surely and, for example, they stopped the democratic preselection by electorate branch membership of candidates standing for election to parliaments and head office made the appointments, that has been changed recently and branches are again in control preselection.
But Union controlled Labor have major problems as well, consider Joel Fitzgibbons MP (former Labor Defence Minister) very public opposition to the Labor left and his support for coal mining and coal fired power stations. Mark Latham, a former Labor Opposition Leader now with One Nation, wrote in The Australian Financial Review years ago about the many Labor factions, factions at war with one another, the far left and much more.
It seems that globalists, socialists, have infiltrated both major sides and gained considerable influence.
And the crony capitalists are involved.
60
Three points in response:
1. Both major parties have always had factions: the Coalition has had “Wets” and “Drys” since Menzies’ day, and the ALP has had the Right and Centre-Left / Left forever … they are a feature not a bug.
2. Neither major party is even remotely close to being “socialist” – you and everyone else is entitled to throw the term around as an insult, but all that happens is that it loses any useful meaning – “Communist” is the same – quite laughable.
3. Australia’s political parties have always been “globalist” (as that term is normally understood – and again, I don’t quite get why some people think it’s a handy term of abuse) – Australia has always relied on international trade, recognising that splendid isolation can’t work for our small market, that we need a lot of foreign investment, and steady immigration, and we ship bulk goods to the world.
We have been very good world citizens in terms of ratifying and observing international treaties and agreements (and I know this can excite some of our more conspiracy-minded types).
I would expect that 95% of the clothing, shoes, and accessories that one could buy in Melbourne today are made in China or thereabouts. This didn’t happen overnight, and it was definitely not caused by the leftier ends of either major party.
Capitalism works that way – and money flows to where it can make the best profit. Ask Rip Curl, Billabong, and Country Road. For the same reasons we no longer have a vehicle manufacturing industry.
11
Don’t cry for me, Australia
The truth is, I never left you
All through my wild days, my mad existence
I kept my promise. Don’t keep your distance
Give me another go
Have I said too much?
There’s nothing more I can think of to say to you
But all you have to do is look at me to know
That every word is waffle.

[…] JoNova; Climate overboard? Panicking NSW Conservatives appear to have abruptly placed political survival […]

This won’t make any difference for the Libs unless they get rid of Matt Keane . He’s a Turnbull protege and he’s the one who should be sacked. Gladys should be so far ahead in the poles but having someone who is left of the Greens in charge of energy, is a really dumb move politically. Jo, you are so right ,anyone who makes climate change as their no 1 priority is politically doomed
50
Cross-posted from Tuesday Open:
I’m no Turnbull fan – and even though I thought he was miles better than the Mad Monk and the current Bozo – I think he’s in the wrong party, and he wasn’t a good Lib leader as a result.
But realistically, who are you going to select as the chair of a new body called the Net Zero Emissions and the Clean Economy Board? You can hardly give the job to a crazed coal-burner or a global-warming sceptic, can you?
It’s not about whether global warming / climate change are election winners – it is whether you’re fair dinkum in setting up a new body like this. If it’s not just cynical greenwashing – then what do you want it to do?
11
[…] h/t JoNova; Climate overboard? Panicking NSW Conservatives appear to have abruptly placed political survival ahead of climate appeasement, in the face of a sudden unexpected by-election in a coal jobs district. […]
10
The new body is called Net Zero Emissions and the Clean Economy Board. Who do you think should chair such a body? If they’re fair dinkum it cannot be a crazed coal pusher or an ideological climate-denier. Who should do it? What is its role?
14
Why would you think that such a body should exist. For what purpose exactly. Do you consider it meaningless?
70
Greta Thunberg but the puppet one.
30
‘Who should do it?’
A lukewarmer like Bjorn Lomborg.
‘What is its role?’
Pointless, CO2 doesn’t cause global warming.
40
If it isn’t CO2 then what is causing global warming?
22
“If it isn’t CO2 then what is causing global warming?”
Per the IPCC AR3, “The climate system is a coupled non-linear
chaotic system, and therefore the long-term prediction of
future climate states is not possible”
Nothing else is required to explain global warming (or cooling).
30
‘If it isn’t CO2 then what is causing global warming?’
A combination of factors since 1976 has given the impression that rising CO2 is making the world warmer. Nothing is further from the truth.
It was only a coincidence, the sun had been overly active and they called for the precautionary principle,

https://www.iup.uni-bremen.de/gome/solar/mgii_composite_2.png
The oceanic oscillations, ENSO, NAO, PDO, IOD and AMO, set the atmospheric tone. The impact of a negative PDO and AMO is underrated, global warming has come to an end.
20
Interesting idea – given that the ten hottest years ever recorded have occurred in the last fifteen years. Or is that more fake news | bad measurement | rigged data | mere coincidence | whatever?
13
‘ … ten hottest years ever recorded …’
That is only weather, we need a 30 year trend for climate. In late 19th century Australia there was a warmer decade, if you’re interested I’ll dig out the detail.

May I recommend we each write to those who made this popular decision and congratulate them on their wisdom and electoral appeal?
And write scathingly to those who condemned it, complaining about their behaviour?
If we are the silent majority for too long, we will end up still being silent but no longer a majority.

Oh boy. I see that the same ole same ole questions about CAGW are being bandied around. IMHO, natural forces (ie: Sun + Oceans) are the primary factors in the current GW period…virtually nothing to do with humans. You have intellectually challenged individuals like Turnbull, Rudd, Flannery et al using such mouthpieces like the ABC ang Getup! to try and brainwash the populace. All of the aforementioned individuals are suffering from a God Complex (which is natural for ALL politicians). As for Kean the Green, he has no real life experiences, so he is irrelevant.
