Voodoo-science strikes again: Climate change is awakening volcanoes

By Jo Nova

Don’t panic, but the unleashed fossil spirits from The Ford 150 are about to plague us with volcanoes

If only you bought your oranges locally, instead of flying them in from California, the lava would have behaved.

If ever you have doubts that we are merely 3 genes away* from being mammoth hunting tribes of prophets and bone pointing shamen, look no further than modern captive science. These nice geochemists haven’t even published a paper yet, but five minutes after giving a speech at a conference, it’s already click-bait headlines and advertising for The Blob. Not that the captive researchers seem to mind (more’s the pity).

We are about to enter the doom loop where climate change melts glaciers which trigger volcanoes, which melts more glaciers. The press release even says “explosive time bombs”.

Except, of course, this is really about the Great Ice Sheets melting from the last ice age, not about humans raising global temperatures by a thousandth of a degree. And we’ve known about this since 1992 when Sivaldason et al reported that a kilometer thick block of ice slowed down volcanic eruptions in Iceland during the depths of the ice cold climate. The new team have just shown this happened in Chile too.

Melting glaciers are awakening Earth's most dangerous volcanoes

Melting glaciers are awakening Earth’s most dangerous volcanoes

European Association of Geochemistry

Scientists have discovered that melting glaciers could unleash powerful volcanic eruptions by removing the weight that keeps magma trapped deep underground. Antarctica may hold hundreds of these explosive time bombs. Melting glaciers may be silently setting the stage for more explosive and frequent volcanic eruptions in the future, according to research on six volcanoes in the Chilean Andes.

The Guardian goes full Absurdium: “A barrage of explosions”

After the Patagonian ice sheets melted 12,000 years ago, volcanoes increased two to six fold they say…. as if increasing atmospheric CO2 by 0.01% somehow compares to removing a block of ice that was 1.5 to 2 km thick and weighed 540 trillion metric tons:

Melting glaciers and ice caps could unleash wave of volcanic eruptions, study says

The melting of glaciers and ice caps by the climate crisis could unleash a barrage of explosive volcanic eruptions, a study suggests.

“Previous research has shown volcanic activity increased globally by two to six times after the last ice age…”

“A recent review by scientists found there had been relatively little study on how the climate crisis had been affecting volcanic activity. They said more research was “critically important” in order to be better prepared for the damage caused by volcanic eruptions to people and their livelihoods and for possible climate-volcano feedback loops that could amplify the climate crisis. For example, more extreme rainfall is also expected to increase violent explosive eruptions.”

Should we toss darts at Voodoo dolls?

The witchdoctors of modern science are one-variable thinkers, and every answer is “climate change”.

We don’t even know how many volcanoes there are on Earth. Most volcanoes are underwater and a couple of years ago we found another 19,000 of them that the experts didn’t know about. Sometimes we only find new seamounts when we run into them in a nuclear sub, like the USS San Francisco did in 2005.

We also don’t even know when underwater volcanoes erupt today, let alone whether they were more or less active in 21,000BC. It’s hard to believe, but we can see a volcano explode on Io, easier than we can see one in a deep sea trench. Eruptions under two  kilometers of water can be somewhat muted.

The feedback doom loops suggested here are vicarious guesses. Who knows — when the great ice sheets squashed down volcanoes on land, the magma might just have been squeezed out of undersea trenches instead. And underwater eruptions rewrite all the rules. Sudden heating of water might divert ocean currents, it might unleash nutrients that feed vast phytoplankton blooms which in turn emit benzene and toluene aerosols that rise up and increase cloud cover, cooling the world.

*No disrespect intended. There probably weren’t many dumb mammoth hunters in the northern Tundra in an ice age.

(Presume you meant Glacial, as we have been in an Ice Age for a very long time.) Probably the folks back then were too bust trying to stay alive and find enough to eat.

Good Grief do they know about Mt. Erebus in Antarctica…..,

    Geology and volcanology

Anorthoclase crystal (45 mm long) from Mount Erebus
Mount Erebus is the world’s southernmost active volcano. It is the current eruptive centre of the Erebus hotspot. The summit contains a persistent convecting phonolitic lava lake, one of five long-lasting lava lakes on Earth. Characteristic eruptive activity consists of Strombolian eruptions from the lava lake or from one of several subsidiary vents, all within the volcano’s inner crater.

    That’s a great word: “Absurdium”.
Considering the misleadium and theftium being carried out on us it’s possibly a bit mild in tone.
The Grauniad totally distorts truth and reality and the motivation behind that is varied.
Reporters say the things they do to hold a well paying job.
Media owners are guided by politicians as to what is acceptable media content; and politicians have wonderful packages for pushing the message.
Question is: who ultimately decides on the message.
There’s lots of inducium flowing through the system to maintain control, power and wealth.

My eruptions of flatulence have increased somewhat so it’s not entirely my diet or age causing this. The only other cause can only be climate change or Trump!!.

So how come Mt Toba the largest volcanic explosion occurred during the Earth’s last full glaciation 74,000 years ago?
Some scientists even claim it reduced the Human population to a few thousand people.
So when is it either too cold or too warm and what can we do about it?
Fair dinkum we could all go barking mad if we take any notice of these loonies.

Also the largest eruption (that we know of) occurred from Lake Taupo (NZ) about 300.000 years ago and didn’t cause an interglacial. The ‘latest major’ eruption occurred about 25,000 years ago with much the same effect.

I have asked my new best friend what is common between SMO and AGW ideology ?

She (it talks with female voice) said:

Russia’s Special Military Operation and Western climate initiatives both enjoy special status in their systems. The SMO bypasses legal norms, commands vast resources, and is shielded by state ideology. Likewise, climate projects like the Green Deal or Inflation Reduction Act receive regulatory privileges, huge funding, and ideological backing. Both limit dissent—through repression in Russia, and social pressure in the West—while redefining national priorities around a central cause.

    Why did I bother?
It is about the latest untimely death of Russian official.
I heard this morning some Olga Romanova (not of Romanov’s dynasty) who since Yeltsin times specialised on Russian court cases of any significance. She is a veritable wiki on the subject and she was all about “fight for justice” for decades.
    Not any more.
Sorry – may be she still is but she has no time for “idealists” anymore. Her “lists” are full of ministers, governors and many-star generals.

The key words are Contract Granting Without Tender.

It’s ludicrous the whole infantile humans control the planet story. Even today in The Telegraph, “The Hottest Spring on Record”. Who trusts them after the Hottest May on record turned out to be fake, warm nights in the Scottish highland moving the average. But you have to love this hyper scare “as the UK braces for its third heatwave in four weeks.” Why not seven heat waves in one week?

How many droughts can you fit in a year? In Australia six months without rain is a drought. In the UK six weeks.
And 40C is hot. In the UK, 30C.
It’s all climate fantasization by the press, hyper reality.

Even Captain Cook never saw Antarctica despite three circuits. Now it is controlling our climates and we are controlling Antarctica. And the Great Barrier Reef.

But the culprit, total CO2, is almost a perfect straight line and near horizontal. So they show you rocketing ’emissions’.

    Fake Climate news.

But the culprit, total CO2, is almost a perfect straight line and near horizontal

That depends on how you build your dataset and scale the Y axis. Make the scale tiny enough, jigger it around with a variable scale, or throw in some selective tree ring data, and you can make a horizontal line look like anything you want.

Most people implicitly understand climate control from day to day life. You can enter a car and regulate the temperature within minutes. It will probably take a little longer to heat or cool your home. In turn, a workplace such as a warehouse is a bit trickier and requires more energy or insulation.

How can you possibly regulate the temperature of a planet? If anyone stumbles upon the earth’s thermostat, please let Bill Gates or Klaus Schwab know.

Strange fact is that more global volcano deaths occurred during the 19th century when co2 levels were supposed to be safe, than during the 123 years from 1900 to 2023.
Just check on my OWI Data link above.
Just more solid proof that they are delusional and don’t understand very simple sums.

      The best scenario :

The earliest (within 1 year time) total collapse of Australia as we know it.
Neither manufacturing, nor transport, nor education, nor services (W&S, medical, police, financial…) works for 2-3 days, maybe a week…
As soon as the electricity is back the GG calls for national emergency election which anti-warmists win so decisively that warmists voluntarily leave their public posts and return their illegally gotten riches. Very slowly Australia become re-industrialised and re-educated.
That is the best part – millions of young people, many of them clever and ambitious, wake up from intellectual coma and gainfully apply themselves to all branches of industry & science, including geophysics and vulcanology.

      The realistic scenario:
Shortly (within 3 years?) the excuse we have national grid collapses. The blackout lasts long enough for backup storages to drain out totally and take out many vital services.
As expected social disturbances occurs in main population centres. Luckily, criminals & rioters are not that scary without their mobile phones and Army deals with them ruthlessly.
Upon return of electrical supply the government reconvenes and declare the victory over AWG deniers. The “scientists” blame Trump, Soros, coal industry and P. Hanson. Strangely no one mentions Coalition.
The worst part – our youngsters are reinforced in their idolatry.

In 2010, a study was published – “Explosive volcanic eruptions triggered by cosmic rays: Volcano as a bubble chamber” . It examined 11 eruptions from volcanoes where the magma was rich in silica (silicic acid). This applied to eruptions in the period 1700 to 2005. In 9 of these 11 cases, the sun was in an inactive phase in terms of sunspots. This means in practice that the solar wind – which protects against high-energy cosmic radiation – was relatively weak. When protons (cosmic radiation) hit atomic nuclei in the atmosphere, a process occurs that ends up forming µ-ions , which are electrically charged particles that can penetrate tens of meters through rock and other material. Such particles have been measured both underwater and 700 meters down in the mountains.

It is not a stretch to imagine that other geological activity may be influenced by cosmic rays. However, this is not proven. It is a hypothesis, but unlike all the claims about our CO2 emissions causing dangerous global warming, the chances of being able to confirm or deny this hypothesis are greater.
We just need to have enough measuring stations placed around the globe so that there is always someone near where earthquakes or volcanic eruptions occur.

Fortunately, there is a possibility to place a large number of such measuring stations. You just have to use the same method as was used in SETI – the search for signals from space.

In a project called ” The international Cosmic-Ray Extremely Distributed Observatory (CREDO) project”, which started in 2016 in Krakow, Poland, 12 countries have committed to participating in such exploration. In this context, an app has been created for mobile phones – CREDO for Android – for IOS the name is COSMICRAY.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=science.credo.mobiledetector&pli=1

    – which can be used to detect cosmic ray hits. If a sufficiently large number of people use this app, one could get a reasonably good detection capability across the globe.

Reminds me of another “credible” commentator (well, as credible as Al Gore anyway, i.e. not very!) who linked AGW to impending earth-shattering doom:

In an interview with an Australian news outlet [Danny] Glover said the Haitian quake is linked to the lack of progress at the recent climate change conference in Denmark. “When we see what we did at the climate summit in Copenhagen, this is the response, this is what happens, you know what I’m sayin’?” Uh, no. Earthquakes are older than any conceivable human.
