In crash-test dummy land, we solve teenage girl climate anxiety with $500b in fantasy weather experiments…

By Jo Nova

And so we arrive, a nation of people looking at TikTok as they cruise down the freeway

This week, our national energy policy is an Agony-Aunt letter — poor Alexa, 21, has been suffering from ‘climate anxiety’ since she was 15. Instead of asking her grandparents (who don’t rate a mention) she dreams of telling her grandkids that she did “everything she could”. Everything, that is, except for talking to her own grandparents, listening to climate skeptics, or seeking alternative views.

Instead of doing her homework, she gate-crashed the PMs promo event so she could be used as emotional bait in a battle between the deep-state-banker-blob and the workers. She probably thinks she’s on the side of the workers (though she’s also probably never met one).

Channel Nine reports on her mental health disorder in the middle of an election campaign, not to help her heal, but to exploit her to push for the climate policies, and political winners that Nine shareholders probably want. See their first line. It’s not “news”, it’s political advertising.

Alexa, 21, has been suffering from 'climate anxiety' since she was a teenager. She's not alone

Alexa, 21, has been suffering from ‘climate anxiety’ since she was a teenager. She’s not alone

Young voters are forming a rallying cry for the federal government to address one of their greatest concerns: climate change.

Alexa Stuart, 21, has already spent years of her life anxious about the climate.

In other words, (twist-the-knife) — to solve her mental illness, we should turn our electrical network into a weather modification scheme at a cost of hundreds of billions, right? (Either that, or we could send her to a pub for fish and chips with a few climate skeptics. It’s so much cheaper.)

No country on Earth has made its own climate nicer with solar panels, or cricket burgers, and most of them are not even trying, but we should, they imply, because only horrible people would not be touched by her sad story. And after all, electricity runs on hope, faith and diversity, not on three phase power. If we follow the fantasy here — coal power causes heart palpitations.

Agony Aunt, (April Glover) digs deep for science, and finds psychological coleslaw instead:

One in 10 Australian adults is experiencing “significant eco-anxiety” like Stuart is, said the Black Dog Institute’s Chloe Watfern.

More than 80 per cent of 16 to 25-year-olds are worried about climate change, according to research published in The Lancet.
Watfern said this currently undiagnosed feeling can be akin to “the feeling of homesickness that you have when you’re home” or even pre-traumatic stress.
It can also be known as “ecological grief”, which is “a sense of mourning for ecosystems, biodiversity and species lost to environmental damage”.

So 10% of Australian adults have a mental illness that has three different names and is “currently undiagnosed”? It’s like pre-traumatic stress, she says, which is the trauma you get from events that haven’t happened, right? Just call it paranoid fantasies, OK?

If Alexa is stressed, it’s because she had a terrible education and grew up in a journalistic wasteland. Articles like this in Nine Media exploit vulnerable teenagers to scare money and votes out of nice people and feed that money to institutional banker funds. Speaking of which…

Channel Nine’s major shareholders are institutional banker funds:

What a surprise. As MarketScreener tells us, the major shareholders of Nine Entertainment are largely large index funds which invest in renewable energy and even if they don’t, they all prefer the kinds of governments that waste lots of money, write sloppy massive legislation full of loopholes, support glorious subsidy schemes, and pointless boom and bust cycles.

Nine  Entertainment pushes these cloying stories as a way to keep both sides of the Uniparty in line. They win either way. Even if the Big Green Labor Party doesn’t win, the Opposition candidates know what policies the media giants want, and are, for the most part, cowed into timid submission. Only Trump, who called them the Fake News Media, has used their terrible reporting against them, and outflanked them with social media. The people hate being lied to.

Any real opposition must turn the tables on the crooked media, in the politest possible way, and ask the questions that the fake journalists won’t ask. Say, do your shareholders benefit if you exaggerate climate change?

Mental illness is very serious. Should we treat it with national energy policy?

Ronin, school education is totally different from when I was at school. We had barely any climate propaganda. Now kids are bombarded with it at an early age when they’re the most susceptible

In the 70s they were worried about global cooling. I went to school in the late 1990s to early 2000s and it seems that global warming was just starting out on the school curriculum here in the UK.

Critical thinking is key to everything.

The problem is not people being uneducated. The problem is that people are educated just enough to believe what they have been taught, and not educated enough to question anything from what they have been taught. Educated does not mean wise or smart.

David, critical thinking along with that other necessity of life, EXPERIENCE. Young Alexa is allegedly 21 so at a maximum she may possibly remember 15 summers and winters, most likely many less, not much to base your life experiences on and certainly not enough seasonal changes to make her aware of cycles in anything.
Also at that point in life where parents and grand parents opinions are not sought or highly thought of. Still when she is supported in her thinking, no matter how flawed, by activists and given the spot like (like that little Swedish kid) she actually thinks she is right.

Most school science curriculum are accurate and don’t over-state the quantum or implications of warming. “Doing your own research” can lead to some pretty strange places, you might even end up here.

Reason- and science-based sites like this might be uncommon and not in accordance with the Official Narrative Simon, but we keep telling you that scientific fact is not established by consensus.

One Hundred Authors Against Einstein was published in 1931. When asked to comment on this denunciation of relativity by so many scientists, Einstein replied that to defeat relativity one did not need the word of 100 scientists, just one fact.

Also, belief in anthropogenic global warming is not a scientific belief, it’s an extreme Leftist political ideology disguised as science.

Actually the warming started in the 18TH Century. Sir Joseph Banks – President of the Royal Society – sent a formal letter to The Admiralty in 1817 pointing out the loss of ice in Greenland in recent years.
He thought that the NW Passage might be soon available. Probably didn’t realise that this would still be the case over 200 years later.

When you teach that manmade CO2 is the cause of global warming you are being intellectually dishonest.
When you teach that manmade CO2 is causing a global catastrophe you are overstating both the quantum and the implications of warming.
They have been overstated since 1988.

        >“Doing your own research” can lead to some pretty strange places, you might even end up here.

The alternative, not bothering to do your own research, leaves you in a stranger place with no reference points outside that Overton window so you’re left with no idea where you might be in reality.

Simon – it shouldn’t even be in the curriculum. It is a concept presented as fact – no wonder the poor kids are freaking out.
You need to be able to walk before you can run – therefore you need a solid understanding of our planets physical geology and geography, as was taught to us in the 1960’s and 70’s.
I’m constantly amazed at the total lack of understanding that my grandkids have of physical earth history – geology and geography in particular – they had no idea what a glaciated valley looks like, and stare blankly at me when told that our first nations people actually walked to Tasmania from the mainland during the last ice age.
So sad – they have been let down by our school system.

When I was at school in the 60s we learned in our geography classes that the earth was divided into climate zones – ie tropics, sub-tropics, temperate, sub-arctic – and Arctic and that the only changes were seasonal – why do we worry about a couple of of degrees when the yearly changes amount to 50 degrees or more?

I have a friend whose daughter went to one of Melbourne’s top private schools. She came home crying a few years ago because she’d been taught that day that the planet was heating up and all the plants and animals would die. The mother called me to counsel the child and I told her she had been lied to and the planet most assuredly waa not dying etc..

I found a science-based, anti’woke book for children on the subject and bought it for her. I don’t recall what the book was called. In order to find the book just now I used Goolag to search on the term “book climate change for kids” without quotes and couldn’t find it but the amount of garbage that comes up with that search is unbelievable.

Anyway, I told the mother I would be happy to complain to the school on her behalf and would even give the kids a lesson myself to counter what had been indoctrinated into them. The mother didn’t want me to contact the school as she was concerned about repercussions for her child.

Anyway, it turns out it wasn’t a teacher from the school that taught this. It was someone from a Government agency that travels to schools giving these lessons. Incidentally, there is also compulsory visits from another Government agency that sends indoctrinators to achools to teach them about “gender”. This was in Victoriastan from a few years ago.

Unfortunately the education system is now based around the goal of teaching kids what to think, not how to think. Recently a friend of mine was doing maintenance work on some equipment in a school lab and there were 4 teachers in there have a meeting about the years curriculum. The subject of climate change came up and the woman who was obviously head of department said that last year some of the kids had been asking questions about some of the man made climate change facts. She made it very clear that this should not be allowed. Her position was that all climate change is man made and any so called scientific papers that questioned this are obviously pseudoscience and funded by big oil. It must be made quite clear that these papers cannot be considered as real science with any basis in facts. They are all lies for someones financial benefit. The kids must be told that man made climate change is real and a threat to their very existence. Any other ideas are lies and propaganda and must be stopped from spreading at all costs.
Modern climate change and scientific teaching in action.

That’s a very ageist boomerphobic comment Peter.

      Peter Fitzroy,

It’s nothing to do with which “generation”. When boomers were young they were the hippies, the anti-Vietnam protesters, etc. This girl looks like she’d fit right in; just exchange the voguish “anxiety” for some tie-dye and a peace sign and it’s done. And I can picture her equally in 1930s Germany’s League of German Girls. Young people are keen to fit in with the group.

With age, by and large, comes a bit of perspective. For most people, interest in their peers’ opinions gives way to family interests. By now, most boomers realise how stupid they were when they were young.

There will be just as many old curmudgeons voting in this election as previous ones. The number of “boomers” who’ve dropped off the perch will be balanced by the number of “gen-xers” who now see how stupid *they* were when they were young.

Children—notably Nordic white girls with braids and red cheeks—were often used in [National Socialist] propaganda. An old Goebbels technique! Looks like today’s progressive Left is still learning its game from an earlier Left in the 1930s.

If you do a Goolag search for “climate anxiety mental illness” without quotes you will get huge numbers of returns, all of them predicated on the idea that it is a legitimate cause of anxiety because “climate change” is a supposedly existential threat.

It’s tragic how so many people are being indoctrinated by the Left and are no longer able to engage in critical thinking.

Here are some examples. The BS just never ends.

    https://www.weforum.org/stories/2024/05/climate-anxiety-is-on-the-rise-heres-what-we-do-about-it/

The fear of our once relatively stable climate breaking down is threatening people’s emotional and mental well-being all around the world.

In the largest survey of climate anxiety, conducted in 2022, climate anxiety was associated with negative mental well-being in 31 out of 32 countries. In a 2021 survey of 10,000 sixteen-to-twenty-five-year-olds spanning ten nations, three-quarters of respondents affirmed that “the future is frightening,” and a majority agreed that “humanity is doomed”.

Researchers and clinicians argue that climate distress (a loosely defined mixture of fear, anxiety, sadness, anger, dread or powerlessness, typically referred to in the literature as climate anxiety) is not pathological. Rather, it is a normal and appropriate thing to feel to some degree, given the escalation of climate events like hurricanes, droughts and floods, and clear evidence that our planetary boundaries are being overshot.

    https://www.climatecouncil.org.au/resources/mental-health-disaster-recovery-resources/

Every Australian is being impacted by climate change. Whether we’ve paid exorbitant prices for produce at the supermarket, choked our way through bushfire smoke blanketing our communities, faced evacuations during dangerous extreme weather events or lost our homes in a bushfire or flood, life as we know it is being disrupted in many ways.

The ongoing emotional toll of climate change is affecting Australians in a number of ways.

The Climate Council recently conducted an extensive study to build a clearer picture of climate change’s impact on Australians’ mental health. It found more than 80% of Australians have experienced a disaster in the past five years. Of those, half said they’d experienced a mental health issue as a result.

This only takes a few minutes to find online, but all the bankers, pollies and many so called scientists etc prefer their BS and fra-d.

It’s probably a similar anxiety that exists in young women and young males too, it seems, who are confused about their gender and want to change it. Maybe now that the British High Court has ruled that gender is decided by natural causes and POTUS 47 has legislated in favour of a strict biological result young people can once again be young people. Prepare themselves with Law and logic for a future that is not dominated by representatives of the ‘turd’ world via Tic toc, paid influencers etc and the internet in general. Use their eye gate instead of their Ipad. We can no more alter the suns rays or change our God defined gender. Learn to recognise peer pressure as an early warning alarm bell of bullying. Of course we need to recondition parents and teachers to this old fashioned paradigm.

If that floats her boat, okay.
My suggestion, her being in Perth, is for her to enroll in one of the engineering programs at UWA. There are many benefits to an occupied mind without the demon-witch molecule taking up all the space therein.

BTW the BOM Aussie cyclone data has been updated from 1970 to 2024.
The trend is lower over that period and graph clearly shows the data.

Thanks Neville. Nothing really changed much has it? Non severe cyclones on a downward trend with severe cyclones perhaps neutral trend / slightly down. But even though the data clearly shows less cyclone activity the good ol’ boys at the BOM still have to add “Additionally, increases in storm surges and extreme sea-levels are very likely to occur in association with tropical cyclones under future climate change”. So, no acknowledgement of the real data, just the imaginary future data. Have to keep scaring the school kiddies.

I wonder why the child is pictured with a sunflower?

Is it because sunflowers are associated with the 1960s hippy movement? But hippies are boomers and the Left hate boomers.

Or is it because sunflowers are associated with the Ukraine, their national flower?

In any case, seed oils are bad for you. Too much omega-6.

Has anyone confirmed that she is a real person and not a creation of AI or the Green Labor marketing department?

It looks like the sort of image that might be generated if you instructed AI to “draw an image of a young hippy-looking adult female with eco-anxiety standing in a field of sunflowers”.

Nah, I’d expect someone better looking than her!

I just searched the web following your instructions:
        young hippy-looking adult female
The timing was the mid-1960s. Those not around then might find the images informational.
Using the word ‘male’ gets an odd assortment of things, perhaps not actually of that time.

    Jo,
Sadly, these days it’s just as likely her Grandparents could be brainwashing her to believe in the “climate crisis” as crap media, the “woke mind virus” is able to attach itself to anyone of any age and there are plenty in the older, supposedly wiser generation who are devotees to the climate cult, look at some of the recent “Just Stop Oil” cultists throwing paint on art etc, a few in their 60’s,70’s. Our very own catastrophist, Simon, may well be one of these?
It would be interesting to see stats on generations and percentage who are climate catastrophe believers, I’d like to think Gen Xers are in the lower percentage.

They disgust me with their absolute refusal to call out this heavily tax payer subsidised environmental destruction. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Just had a look at the V9.0 Australian Y10 Science Curriculum. – Science Understanding – Earth and space science. Below is an extract:

Global systems, including the carbon cycle, rely on interactions involving the biosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere.
    Elaborations
    • investigating how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are reducing Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions through the reinstatement of traditional fire management regimes.
    • investigating how human activity affects global systems

    • modelling a cycle, such as the water, carbon, nitrogen or phosphorus cycle within the biosphere

    • explaining the causes and effects of the greenhouse effect

    • investigating the effect of climate change on sea levels and biodiversity

    • considering the long-term effects of loss of biodiversity

    • investigating currently occurring changes to permafrost and sea ice and the impacts of these changes

    • examining the factors that drive the deep ocean currents, their role in regulating global climate, and their effects on marine life

Whatever happened to physical geography and geology?
These poor students have no real concept of the physical workings of this planet – I suppose that’s why they build on floodplains and then complain about getting flooded.

They might be taught science at school but they’re not taught relativity or proportionality. There’s no discussion of the risk: reward scenario. Probably that was never taught, you just learned that in other ways. Well, I did, but was raised on a farm, where you evaluated risks very quickly. A few years ago when coaching sports at high school level (Y11:12’s) the subject of CO2 and climate came up. Think it was 2 elections ago. I asked them what the level of CO2 was in the atmosphere. No clue. So told them (around 400 ppm or 0.04%) and then did the sky 100 squares x 100 squares thing to equate to ppm. They were quite shocked how little of the atmosphere was indeed CO2. Then I told them to look at other things in the sky like sun, clouds and compare. In the science education they’d received, it was only CO2 bad and the earth is going to die. So probably like poor Alexa. Mind you, poor Alexa probably also still wears a face mask.

Almost everything she uses or touches will be made from or associated with oil in some way.

Including her clothes, the string of her necklace, and personal care products like shampoo etc.. Even the tractor for planting and harvesting the sunflowers. And how did she get to the sunflower field? Even if by EV, which likely wouldn’t have the range from her inner city location, it would be charged mostly with coal.

The only way Leftoids can avoid oil is to go back to the Stone Age. If they want to live like that, fine, but don’t drag us down with it.

They used to teach this sort of stuff in Boomer and even Gen X school, back in the day.

She’s reminiscent of Thunberg who sailed across the Atlantic in a high tech carbon fibre yacht to avoid using oil in a plane. WTF does she think the materials of the yacht were made from?

These Leftoids just don’t have a clue. Just like they think ammonia and liquid hydrogen are “fully safe and effective” alternative fuels.

Here’s a real lesson from Dr Koonin in his debate with Dr Dessler and he links the recent lunacy in Sri Lanka with the more stupid Demorat states in the US.
Dessler is a fool and of course Dr Koonin easily won this debate and eventually received an apology live on stage.
This only takes a few minutes but we can all learn a lot from the persistent Dr Koonin.

Never even heard of climate anxiety in the 50’s and 60’s when I was a kid. Too busy getting a real education that set me up for life. And when I wasn’t at school I was surfing, fishing, adventuring and earning a few bob doing people’s gardens.
As for today’s climate anxters, what a waste of a life so far. Ditch your social media and get back to reality.

Just checked the OWI Data global death rates in 1931 or 177 and in 2024 or 0.01.
That’s 17,700 times higher in 1931. Check it out at my earlier link.
BTW Dr Koonin is very safe when he claims that today’s death rates are just one fiftieth of the early 20th century death rates. Again that’s from all extreme weather events.
Of course our extremist left wing donkeys still believe their BS and fra-d merchants.

Again here’s the death rates from fires and burns 1980 to 2021.
Australia is the lowest today at 0.2 per 100,000 people and is 6 times lower than the 1.2 Aussies in 1980.
All countries and continents have lower death rates today including Africa and the world or global death rates.
It’s wonderful how fossil fuels now protect us and provide us with a much higher standard of living and the safest world in Human history.

Climate anxiety solution – turn up the heat on discussion of conscription.

Now that is something to be anxious about.

Maybe best not enrol to vote if you are young – where else they going to look for a register of conscripts?

Schools are government controlled thus teaching fake science to make the solar and wind scammers extremely wealthy by destroying grasslands, forests and resulting in massive loss of natures environment that supports ALL LIFE. Fact is CO2 grows trees (all plants and corals)which is its only purpose in the atmosphere now just a tiny 400 ppm WHICH WAS 200 ppm before the invention of the catalytic converter for all vehicles by EUGENE HOUDRY in the 1970’s made compulsory in the 1980’s for all new vehicles WORLD WIDE. Itg took 30 years to end the SMOG problem. The converter instantly converted Carbon Monoxide Poison (CO) into CO2 THE ONLY SOURCE OF CARBON FOR PLANTS THAT HAS BEEN GREENING THE WORLD EVER SINCE.

For anyone in Oz who is worried about their contributions of CO2 to the atmosphere, I would recommend looking at a paper of mine on Anthony Watt’s site that shows where CO2 comes from and where it goes to. I’m sorry to say that Australia is totally irrelevant.
