Climate Propaganda burns out: neither hope nor doom works on audiences anymore

Hard to find some good news out there today. But here’s a bit:

People are immune to climate hopey gloom

Researchers tried to figure out whether to make their climate propaganda more scary or more uplifting but found instead that they might as well show 500 people “the history of smartphones”. (That was the control video). Nothing works anymore.

It was a complete wash. No new activists were made.

However, despite these emotional responses, neither [doom nor hope] video was associated with significant differences in climate change risk perceptions, likelihood of behavior change, or likelihood of climate activism. These null results suggest that the impacts of a single hope or fear appeal can be overstated…

After watching the online movies, nobody thought climate change was scarier, nobody want to change anything they did, and no one wanted to be climate activist either, unless they were already one to start with. After 30 years of propaganda, people have heard it all. Pounding them them with more isn’t going to work.

It didn’t matter which movie they saw.

Climate communication. Research. Graph. Hope and Doom debate.

Neither doom, hope nor placebo did a thing.

The multi-billion dollar industry of climate propaganda was hoping to tweak their advertising and find the right point on the Dial of Fear. Instead they showed it’s all a waste of money. Just like research like this.

If they had shown something new, like, say, a skeptical video that the audience had never seen, that would have shifted perceptions, risks, and activism. (Remember when a one hour debate with Christopher Monckton shifted fully 9% of the audience?)

There’s a lot of upside there to Red-Pill people with a story that many haven’t heard. Which is exactly why climate believers have to turn up the censorship screws. So get out there, share the message.

This paper was submitted last April, but not accepted for eight months. It must have been hard to figure out how to spin those dismal results:

Do we need more scary climate change articles? Maybe

Kate Yoder on Grist

Ettinger’s new research, published in the journal Climatic Change, suggests that the whole “hope vs. fear” argument might be overblown. For the experiment, 500 Americans were shown different videos meant to evoke either hopeful or fearful reactions to climate change. (One group got a message along the lines of “Humanity can stop climate change and create a better world for all!”; the others heard, “Unless we take major action, humanity is doomed.”) While both videos evoked the intended emotions, in the end, neither one altered people’s willingness to change their behavior or participate in climate activism.

Climate change is part of the New, Global Long March to Communism and one world government. It is good to know that many people are onto the scam. Now if we could find truthful news and social media in all the countries, perhaps we could stop this New Long March to Communism and one world government.
    This is indeed good news.
    Thank you Joanne Nova.

At least the ongoing failures of the “green energy transition” are starting to accumulate. Billions spent around the world to make our energy grids less reliable and even fail just when we need them the most, in periods of extreme, but frequently occurring, weather. The common person is starting to learn the consequences of ideological driven energy programs. When they realise that these programs have been entirely funded by taxpayer revenue, and are simply incapable of economic survival without ongoing streams of more taxpayer revenue, even as electricity prices dramatically increase, they might start looking for representatives who offer alternative policies.

The trouble is that politicians, being basically ignorant of all things STEM, won’t change their behaviour until that groundswell marches to their doors in protest. And conservatives rarely express their displeasure with mass movements.

The climate clowns have got a very big problem arriving soon, it will be the collision between the desire to build more and more unreliables and the imminent arrival of millions of EV’s, a match made in heaven.

No problem with EV transition, just do what Germany and other nations are doing and restrict recharging times, limit the hours permitted each day to support unreliable energy businesses.

Have any of the ‘congestion charge’ zealots considered that combining this with the general unpleasantness of big city public transport during the “rush hour” might well result in people being unwilling to accept jobs in the Big City. Then the beeeeg office blocks close down since the company either migrated to ruralshire, decentralised, or even went to ‘remote working’. Then just what happens to the city’s tax take? In Johannesburg, this is already happening in the new, shiny office blocks of Sandton – some of which are only 10% occupied. (OK – this is part of the “virus lockdown” effect – but could be permanent if city managers don’t wake up!

Tanya Plibersek tried to convince Alan Jones tonight that the cheapest energy was rooftop solar. Last quarter I produced roughly the same amount of power as I used. Due to my usage not necessarily coinciding with my production my bill was $437 after my export rebate. In 2006, before the madness really kicked in my bill would have been about $300 using good old Liddell which we could see from our farm. (for the house alone)

    People are not paying attention.
Even as winters are getting incrementally cooler over the last 5 years (especially in the Northern hemisphere), they don’t seem to get the message that it’s all about the rapid 1°C in 150 year rise in global temperature that is going to kill everything. Nature can not keep up with this rate of change!
So, the CO2 rise must be causing colder winters and climate science must clarify this by publishing more imaginative research papers as we move to an even more extreme climate crisis.

That’s the thing – the greentards have been crying wolf for so long that the public has finally noticed the utter failure of their predictions and the ever pushed out timelines. Add the rising energy costs as “cheaper” renewabubble generation has become more widespread and the lies are becoming unsupportable.

The only thing the greentards can do is try upping the ante with even wilder claims of upcoming catastrophe but it’s gotten so hyperbolic that the general public aren’t accepting the memes anymore. Polar bears keep increasing numbers, we’ve had the coolest summer for over a decade while the northern hemisphere has frozen, the Maldives are still above water and the Great Barrier Reef refuses to die.

As with renewabubbles, failure to deliver undermines CAGW

        Ideology not fact.

        Is the problem my friend.

I was taught to believe in Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, The tooth fairy and If I don’t eat carrots, I will go blind.
It wasn’t until I questioned and thought for myself that I realised that it was all bunkum.

        This is the problem.
Not too many, today, think or question. They just wait to be told by someone in power or authority.

If they cannot think for themselves. They become a slave to what they are told.

Google Fires Ethics Heads for Questioning the Global Warming Impact of AI

    Guest essay by Eric Worrall

When the woke outwoke the woke. Back in December, Google fired AI Ethics Unit co-leader Timnit Gebru, in relation to her paper “On the Dangers of Stochastic Parrots: Can Language Models Be Too Big?”. Google have now just fired their other ethics head, Margaret Mitchell, apparently for trying to gather evidence while investigating the ousting of Timnit.

    Hysteria is exhausting.

    Why it is “unsustainable”.
And after 4 decades of Doom Doom Doom, the normal reaction is “Enough Already”,as in here is a plastic bag to use as a mask from the Dread Covid.

Those gullibles who infest the Cult of Calamitous Climate are having more real concerns rammed down their throats.
As they are beginning to assimilate just how much their own governments loath them.

That and an unhealthy dose of Satanism.

Its interesting – from my own Christian perspective, as we watch the actions of the most active arm of the N W O currently, the CCP on one hand says it athiest, but if you boil its extreme cruelty down, they do appear to have a religion, which is Satanism.

There are always piles of useful idiots, the Devil has offered the unhinged and given them power. The Bible says God owns the planet but the Devil runs it. Ergo, as God allows things to occur, we can assume the bulk of the wierd and just plain nasty stuff is demonic in origin. Now while this might be a bridge too far for some people, from a Biblical persepctive, its perfectly understandbale. There was one incident that a man was chained to rocks near Galilee who was possessed by multiple demons. The other critical point is this – demons cant take over someunless they are invited to – ergo, what youre seeing now inb the same madness that took over the world leading up to WW2 is now manifesting itself again.

The new “saviour” of the world ( the UN ) was created by the same Elite bloodline families people now running amok drunk with power and making everyone miserable through the current medical dictatorship.

The good news is that Christians expect the return of Christ soon, but it will get much much worse before it gets better….

Global warming is dead. Long live Climate Change. Imagine trying to sell a Global Warming message in America right now.

Or Melbourne, Victoria. Another midsummer week of 21C. Hardly a day over 30C this year.

And where are those Global Warming Climate Change bushfires this year? And those tropical storms? Those predictions of more hot and dry and business as usual at the BOM predicting doom and gloom. Gloom indeed.

The place is wet and green and feels like mid winter instead of mid summer. Ah, Climate Change. It’s getting cooler and we haven’t had a summer in a decade. Those windmills must be working, the modern version of the Easter Island statues. And at the same cost. At least future archaeologists will marvel at what strange beliefs required them to be built in a cooling world.

The BoM were forecasting coral bleaching on the GBR for this summer, but it never happened because it takes a strong El Nino. So they need to put a sock in it, otherwise the electorate might think the organisation is making stuff up and demand an Audit.

You would think that their supercomputers and infallible models could predict El Nino and La Nia and the Indian dipole and all the major ocean heat engines, but they cannot. So it’s their eternal excuse.

Lucky. Blaming wrong predictions on something they admit they cannot predict. So what good is a global climate model if it cannot predict the biggest events. And they ask us to believe that they can predict decades ahead because only CO2 matters in climate? And that CO2 levels are exclusively man made? And that a 50% growth in CO2 has a noticeable effect? Where?

And where is the expected dramatic drop in CO2 growth in the last Wu Flu year? I can safely predict that grounding all the world’s aircraft , stopping all car traffic in major cities was not even noticeable in the CO2 chart, any more than giant bushfires and volcanoes. Because CO2 is in equilibrium with the vast oceans and our human related output is tiny compared to the massive continuous exchange with the oceans. So why punish and tax the aircraft and cars? In this massive world wide practical experiment, cars and aircraft do not affect CO2 levels. Proven.

And CO2 keeps going up steadily but temperature pauses, so that is busted too.

So Jim Hansen and Al Gore made it all up. Burning all fossil fuels “would make most of the planet uninhabitable by humans.” And that was 33 years ago. It seems quite habitable, but now we are told that 2050 is coming and we must get rid of those cars and aircraft and fossil fuels or it’s only another 29 years for the end of the planet. And Jim Hansen will be 109.

From Melbourne (37 South) to Houston (30 North), we do miss that global warming we were promised.

        191

        • #
          TdeF

As I have pointed out before, 99.7% of the earth surface heat is stored in the oceans. If computer models cannot predict the movement of this heat, they are useless for predicting anything long term.

The oceans have an average depth of 3.4km and it’s 1 atmosphere per 10 metres, so the oceans weigh 340x as much as the air. And water has 4x the heat capacity of air, so it’s 1400 to 1 in heat storage, 99.7:1. And the oceans contain almost all free CO2, 50:1 or 98%.

So the long term computer climate models should be of the sun, the source of heat and the oceans the store of heat, not the air. All weather is water and heat based, but they model the air because that is what they see. Effects not causes. Can anyone see a problem with this?

I have just heard the remnants of a speech by David Attenborough (OM GCMG CH CVO CBE FRS FRSB FRSA FLS FZS FSA FRSGS) a 94-year-old man of Letters but what do they all mean?) He was droning-on about the end of the World and how it’s too late for humans to have any effect on the ultimate, fatal, result. This man, who not that long ago, was guilty of promoting a 2017 Netflix film depicting walruses committing suicide by leaping over a cliff due to climate change. This was a hoax! Does anyone seriously believe they care? They don’t need us to agree with their agenda. The Great Reset(s) will force upon us all the changes they like to make. It can only be stopped if voters wake up and stop voting for any party that promotes the climate change/emissions reduction scam. In Australia that means stop voting for LNP and ALP+Greens. Otherwise, we the people will be endorsing their destructive policies on energy. We the people have the power to stop all this nonsense dead in its tracks by protesting peacefully in the streets en mass and voicing our concerns at the state and federal elections. We just need to exercise that power but sadly it looks like we won’t until it’s too late.

With the CSIRO and BOM calling this year as the start of the end of snow in Australia it’s going to be interesting to see how the prediction pans out for them , bearing in mind it has been a cooler summer everywhere but in BOM’s books.

      Robert,
The earlier predictions were no snow next centuary, after 1999.
Hansen said no Arctic ice after 1999. That was to the congress in 1988.
A 12 year prediction. It is 33 years ago.
How wrong do you have to be to lose credibility?

I use it frequently and the gullible thank me for opening their eyes.

It is like the kid with kittens when Shorten walked past. Bill asked him about his kittens and the boy said that they were going to vote ALP.
Three weeks later he walked past with Plibersik and asked the question again to impress Tania.
The boy answered they’ll vote Liberal. Their eyes are open now.

The study really shows that the propaganda machine is doing its work. 60% of participants are alarmed or concerned about Climate Change. That is not a bad number for the believers. A trivial 14% is doubtful or dismissive. Then there are a few agnostics.

I cannot fathom the meaning of the scale on the chart “Mean” mean of what?

The study was invalid because the proposition that anthropogenic climate change exists is false.

If they had shown the videos to science rationalists such as most of us who see no evidence for anthropogenic climate change we would be noticeably distressed by seeing the enormously destructive, dangerous and deadly lie repeated yet again.

Anyway, the Left have new SCARY STORIES to move on to now such as COVID which are more effective at economic destruction than anthropogenic climate change ever was.

Last year my local council, Mitcham, proudly declared that it is “climate ready” and in this month’s newsletter boasts that its contribution to dealing with the “climate emergency” is to “upgrade” footpaths with permeable paving 70% of the time to reduce stormwater runoff. Other initiatives are to change nearly 2000 lightbulbs in two council properties, pave one road with recycled plastic bottles (an Earth Day project) and to harvest rainwater with “TreeNets”.

Current Mayor, Dr Heather Holmes-Ross, got elected on promises which included a 100% coverage of residential dwellings with rooftop solar panels. Apart from the prohibitive cost this is obviously impossible to achieve and I haven’t heard a word about it since!

Another councillor talks about batteries and electric car charging points and the others vaguely touch on it by talking “green” somewhere in their report.

All politically correct and they have been seen to be doing the “right thing”.

Harvesting rainwater with tree nets?! Did they note the recent strong winds and torrential rain? How long would such things last?! I remember a heavy hailstorm in Mitcham some years back; that would be handy; it wrecked our apricot crop.

Also what is wrong with reducing landfill by making urban structures? Why is that woke?

What is wrong with getting more water into the soil where it falls instead of sending torrents of garbage filled water into out freshwater systems? The porous idea has been around for a long time, has been well researched and looks to have multiple benefits. Hardly a mad green idea.

China emits more carbon dioxide than Australia does in a whole year

Every 16 days China emits more carbon than Australia does in an entire year, according to new research released today by free market think tank the Institute of Public Affairs. This means the annual effect on global emissions from Australia mandating a net zero emissions target would be cancelled out by China in just over two weeks.

“The complete de-industrialisation of Australia would have no discernible impact on global emissions but would inflict significant and irreparable economic and social damage,” said Cian Hussey, Research Fellow at the IPA.

The analysis identified that Australia’s carbon emissions per capita have declined by 15.4% since 2004, while China’s emissions per capita over the same period have increased by 83.5%.

China is responsible for 63.3% of the increase in global carbon emissions since 2004, while Australia is responsible for just 0.35% of the increase.

In absolute terms, China’s annual emissions have increased by over 5 billion tonnes since 2004, while Australia’s annual emissions have increased by only 27.4 million tonnes.

“It is reckless and futile for the political class to impose on Australians further severe cuts to emissions which costs jobs and livelihoods, while China – the world’s largest emitter– continues to rapidly increase its emissions without consequence,” said Mr Hussey.

“Calls for Australia to adopt a net zero emissions target ignore the significant economic, social, and humanitarian costs which would inevitably be the result of such a target,” said Mr Hussey.

Yes, it is absurd. And a per capita increase of 83.5% when on an absolute basis with 64x the population in China is a 5,344% in total CO2 emissions against a 15.4% drop in Australia. The People Against Australia cunningly argue that Australians are the greatest per capita polluters in the world. It’s the old guilt argument, which seems to work on Christians and not anyone else.

And no one points out that we are part of the only 2% of humanity living below the tropic of Capricorn and that 98% of the fossil fuel CO2 comes from elsewhere on the planet. So why are we paying carbon taxes?

I think it is good to get publications like this out there as it gives evidence to what we all suspect is true – that people have seen the evidence presented in many forms for almost 2 decades now. Why would anyone think that presenting it all over again is going to do anything other than annoy people. I also like the detail the authors presented which should be useful to actual media production people.

Going forward, I’d suggest, the only way for people changing their opinions is if something new is discovered or something develops that can’t be reconciled with the individual’s current opinion.

ENSO is the temperature control knob over short duration, but the PDO should dictate the course ahead, which for the sake of argument means an absence of El Nino.

The solar astronomers are, as you know, predicting a Solar Minimum over the next 50 years. The reaction to this will be telling.

The BOM will ramp up its homogenisation and “adjustment” programs but in the end it will become pretty obvious that it is cooling, or at the very least not in any way warming.

As we know renewables are a complete failure and combine more disruptions like Texas except of a far more serious nature and there will indeed be a pushback. Reaction against Covid dictates was damped down because of Jobkeeper and Jobseeker – in this case there will be no compensation for huge business disruptions and the job losses will be substantial.

Scomo can rabbit on all he likes about net zero but that will not change the climate one iota and I think that will become obvious to all in the next decade or so.

It is important to consider how politics works and that perceptions are very important.

The PM has made it very clear that the government would never accept taxes to achieve a net zero emissions result, and would only consider advances in technology to achieve it if possible, while focusing on building the economy.

The government he leads had a slim majority and is now in an even more vulnerable position with the resignation of Craig Kelly MP.

Most often governments in Australia take office with a small majority so close to fifty per cent of voters support the government, and as many do not. Voters are our own worst enemies when we allow politicians to dictate. In other words to allow climate change hoax to become a political issue and points of argument. Of course the majority left leaning media pack are influential in spreading propaganda and too many voters are easily persuaded, they can even be convinced that there is renewable energy.

I know many people who switch off mentally as soon as the television news weather person begins …. hottest ever day, month, year.

People in advertising or used to dealing with advertising executives understand that audiences can be influenced by advertising but repetitive advertisements soon fail to impact on most of the target audience.

I read the study about climate change propaganda.

The climate change “debate” is not really a debate, because people on one side ask questions, but people on the other side refuse to debate.

Ask too many questions and you are ridiculed and character attacked as a “science denier”.

On one side are people who know little about climate science, but don’t realize how little they know. These coming climate crisis promoters write articles, make speeches, and make videos, to sell their climate fantasy.

They are selling their climate fantasy to regular people who also know little about climate science, so most of them just accept what “the experts” claim.

The so called climate “experts” completely ignore the fact that everyone on our planet has lived with global warming for the past 45 years, and it has been harmless.

    Pleasant, actually.

Their only interest is scary predictions of the next 45 years of global warming, which they claim will be completely different — horrible.

Unfortunately, too many people believe the scary predictions.

A small minority don’t believe the “experts”, and no additional propaganda will change their minds.

Unfortunately, their opinions are almost always based on instincts, rather than knowledge of climate science.

Former president Trump was one of them.

Instincts such as not trusting “experts”, or not trusting government scientists, or not trusting anything leftists believe in.

I would like to see more people considering their own experience with global warming — all of their lives, for people under 45 years old.

The question is who to believe — Your own experience with global warming, which was pleasant, or predictions of future global warming … that is completely different — a “climate crisis”.

It’s sad how many people are willing to ignore their own experience with 45 years of actual global warming, the whole time listening to climate predictions of doom … which have obviously been wrong for the past 45 years!

After 45 years of hearing wrong predictions of a coming climate crisis … they still believe predictions of a coming climate crisis, because the propaganda works.

The “coming climate crisis” is always 10 years in the future … and will always be 10 years in the future.

Because the coming climate crisis is not real — it is just a figment of over-active leftist imaginations — their ‘CO2 is the devil in the sky’ fairy tale.

Their ‘do what we say, or the climate boogeyman will get you’ strategy is used to ramp up their political power.

And that strategy works, so it will continue.

How many different ways can you cry wolf?

Global warming, man made global warming, climate change, Anthropogenic climate change, global extinction, global dying. We have only a decade to act, we must act now, this decade/year/today is the point of no return. Global extinction in 12 years, but that was two years ago and we don’t hear about it anymore.

Each new description becomes more shrill, if you believe Tim Flannery Melbourne and Sydney ran out of water a decade ago, but the but the outcome is always the same, NOTHING HAPPENS.

Exactly neil. We all remember the doomsday prophecies of Tom Foolery and his ilk; ie: “no more water for Sydney…dams will dry up” ; “no more polar bears etc etc”. Just because we had one super El Nino in 1998, we get this garbage from the Church of Climatology. I’ll wait for another 5 years of data, but it looks like the Earth is in a VERY temporary temperature pause. I still think the long term trend is very slightly upwards (following the MWP), but eventually we will return to another Ice Age, no matter how much CO2 is released. My long-term fear is METHANE, not CO2.
