Yet another fraud of a “green power” scheme. And $1 billion gone!!!!!!!!!!

Count the duds, all justified in the name of “saving the planet”:-

    – the green loans fiasco
    – the free insulation debacle
    – the “cash for clunkers” dud
    – the NSW solar rebate blowout
    – the solar hot water rebate rorting
    – the Copenhagen circus
    – the wind power that vanishes with the wind
    – the desalination disasters (http://www.heraldsun.com.au/opinion/desal-insanity-will-cripple-us/story-e6frfhqf-1225951499715)

The complete green system is actually designed to restore feudalism and abolish liberal system of free competition and free investment. Industrial feudalism cannot be based on allotment of soil as tenure to serfs. Then they try to achieve feudalization of key production factors like energy; that is why their lordships seek for carbon to become feud of our age. Yet they want to impose feudal tenure regime on all production indices of their subjects.

Thanks to JS for pointing out that license is technically licence, and to make things extra confusing, the wordpress spell checker is not happy about a “licence” and tries to convert it… (which is why I thought, silly me, that “license” must be the US spelling). For anyone who wonders: license means “to permit” and licence means “a permit”.

    FijiDave,

The English did a great job of modifying the language long before Americans had a go at it. We are simply following a tradition that is as old as language: used languages change. Only dead languages from dead civilizations are static.

I offer as evidence, the following proclamation from King Cnut the Great to his earl Thorkell the Tall and the English people written in AD 1020. From: Wikipedia Old English

“Cnut cyning gret his arcebiscopas and his leod-biscopas and Þurcyl eorl and ealle his eorlas and ealne his þeodscype, twelfhynde and twyhynde, gehadode and læwede, on Englalande freondlice.

And ic cyðe eow, þæt ic wylle beon hold hlaford and unswicende to godes gerihtum and to rihtre woroldlage.

Ic nam me to gemynde þa gewritu and þa word, þe se arcebiscop Lyfing me fram þam papan brohte of Rome, þæt ic scolde æghwær godes lof upp aræran and unriht alecgan and full frið wyrcean be ðære mihte, þe me god syllan wolde.

Nu ne wandode ic na minum sceattum, þa hwile þe eow unfrið on handa stod: nu ic mid godes fultume þæt totwæmde mid minum scattum.

Þa cydde man me, þæt us mara hearm to fundode, þonne us wel licode: and þa for ic me sylf mid þam mannum þe me mid foron into Denmearcon, þe eow mæst hearm of com: and þæt hæbbe mid godes fultume forene forfangen, þæt eow næfre heonon forð þanon nan unfrið to ne cymð, þa hwile þe ge me rihtlice healdað and min lif byð.”

In face of that kind of change, why should we worry about the difference between “licence” and “license”?

The closing of the Australian mind……….

Many Australian parents have been surprised to learn (Al) Gore’s (An Inconvenient Truth) “will be incorporated in the [new] national [English] curriculum ), as part of a bid to teach students on environmental sustainability across all subjects”…

Australian schools are being transformed from institutions that impart a rigorous education into social reform factories that manufacture right-thinking (which is to say, left-thinking) young clones ready to be admitted into the chattering classes…

Lionel, you’ve got me there! Is that your second language? 🙂 Might come in handy addressing the IPPC!

I remember hearing on the BBC, an interview with a language professor who said that there are many words in the English language that have been in use for at least 1500 years. He pointed out that (as far as I can remember) in Winston’s famous speech, “We will fight them on the beaches…but we will never surrender, etc.,” every word was old English except “surrender”, for that is French!

I know you are right, but I still get peeved that these changes are foisted upon us by the Yanks.

I am still awaiting a proper response from the Minister and the Premier on the Thompson issue. I think they are too scared to go up against the public servants in their departments who, like the ABC seem to be brainwashed into believing the likes of ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ where we are lead to believe all forms of ‘Climate Disruption’ are the result of rising CO2 levels. They really only have to look at some well known Australian literature to learn that drought, floods, and fires are a common part of the Australian experience. They should read Henry Lawson, not Al Gore, or read one of our must famous poems, ‘My Country’ by Dorothea Mackellar (1885 – 1968)

    My Country

The love of field and coppice,
    Of green and shaded lanes.
    Of ordered woods and gardens
    Is running in your veins,
    Strong love of grey-blue distance
Brown streams and soft dim skies
I know but cannot share it,
    My love is otherwise.

    I love a sunburnt country,
    A land of sweeping plains,
    Of ragged mountain ranges,
    Of droughts and flooding rains.
    I love her far horizons,
    I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror –
The wide brown land for me!

    A stark white ring-barked forest
    All tragic to the moon,
    The sapphire-misted mountains,
The hot gold hush of noon.
    Green tangle of the brushes,
    Where lithe lianas coil,
    And orchids deck the tree-tops
And ferns the warm dark soil.

Core of my heart, my country!
    Her pitiless blue sky,
When sick at heart, around us,
    We see the cattle die-

But then the grey clouds gather,
    And we can bless again
    The drumming of an army,
    The steady, soaking rain.

Core of my heart, my country!
    Land of the Rainbow Gold,
For flood and fire and famine,
    She pays us back threefold-
    Over the thirsty paddocks,
    Watch, after many days,
    The filmy veil of greenness
    That thickens as we gaze.

    An opal-hearted country,
    A wilful, lavish land-
All you who have not loved her,
    You will not understand-
    Though earth holds many splendours,
    Wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
    My homing thoughts will fly.

    Dorothea Mackellar

The English we speak is quite different from the English of William Shakespeare. The English he spoke is quite different from the English of Geoffrey Chaucer. The “English” of Chaucer was the result of England being a bi-lingual country for two centuries, with people speaking either proto-German or ancient Norman. It goes without saying; the English we’re using now will have drifted into something pretty strange in a few centuries.

FijiDave: Is that [Old English] your second language?

No. Neither is Australian/British English. I speak Mid Western American English, write General American English, and use various computer languages on a daily bases. Fortunately we can communicate with each other most of the time in spite that fact. I think that is what counts far more than argumentation over swapping a few letters now and then.

I just speak the English bequeathed to me by my parents, grandparents and all of my predecessors in this country. I’m no more responsible for how it differs from Australian or British English than I’m responsible for sunrise every morning.

It’s the same for you in Australia. You speak what was handed down to you.

It all gets modified over time, no matter where. Does anyone in the UK say, “…this avo?” As far as I can see that’s strictly Australian.

So question: Do we not have more important things to discuss than the differences between our two English variants? Does it matter now that the “yanks” changed anything? We’re simply too far down the road to make an issue of it.

    10

  • #

    Roy,

You mean you are NOT responsible for the sun rising in the morning? Gasp! What will we ever do? I suppose we will have to depend on my rooster crowing in the morning to wake up the sun.

Hmmmm. Maybe that is why its getting so cold lately. My rooster died six months ago. Actually I terminated him with extreme prejudice because he attacked my friend’s leg twice and drew blood each time – lots of blood. I haven’t replaced the rooster yet and likely won’t. Unfortunately, the sun keeps waking up later and later. If this keeps up, we will be in eternal darkness and a deep freeze quite soon.

See? There is a connection between a discussion of English variants and the forever pending, getting worse as we speak, Global Warming catastrophe. Its simply not by first order logic. You have to freely associate, think outside the box, and go beyond the pale to get there.

I agree with Roy that we have got side tracked from the real point of this thread, which is the march of jackboots over the freedoms so hard-won by those who we remember today.

My mum and dad had years a battling with bureaucratic tyranny, but their battles were more with stupidity than this poisonous, insidious lunacy. I really feel for the Thompson’s, but fear that the green juggernaut will overwhelm them. One can only hope that enough noise is made by the voters to make those who rely on them to remain in their seats of power, to sit up and take notice.

    I’m not holding my breath.

Germany gets ugly with climate skeptics
Posted on November 11, 2010 by Anthony Watts

“When I first saw this I thought to myself “maybe posting this isn’t appropriate on Veterans Day”. Then, after additional reflection, I realized this is exactly what our American veterans and the allies fought for: freedom of speech and freedom from tyranny. The seeds of tyranny appear to be taking hold again in the German government at least when it comes to climate change issues. – Anthony”

    Back to the issue:

Industry mad as hell and not going to take it anymore

[T]he DBCCA report, shows the number of climate change lawsuits brought each year, divided into categories. The big jump in 2010 is obvious. While the filings have been dominated by activists groups in prior years, the tables were turned this year as industry groups have responded with their own lawsuits—mostly against the EPA and its subsequent rulemaking.

Other WA industry will eventually wake up to the problem.

PS: A “postcard” from my local MLA (Labour) seeks to blame the Premier for the rising prices of electricity and water. Well it’s ALL governments of all colours in WA that have contributed to the current need to hike prices; to a large degree to “pay for the environment”.

The stupidity of RECS; of changes in land management that has more than halved catchment efficiency in 30 years; a refusal to build more water reservoirs for a population that has tripled; a refusal to scale up and diversify reliable power generation capacity. All while squandering taxes on useless wind farms and subsidies for solar that don’t generate enough power to run desalination plants.

MORE STUPIDITY FROM A DANGEROUS “GREEN” FRUITLOOP!!……….

Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore is championing alternate energy systems (http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/health-fears-over-gas-fired-generators/story-e6frg6nf-1225952326880) to control the levels of “Carbon Pollution” produced in the city that may well kill us all in a hundred or so years if left unchecked. So she wants a network of gas-fired engines to power the Sydney CBD. Just one slight problem with that and also with their concern about pollution that now is sounding typically hypocritical:
THE network of gas-fired engines that are planned to power the Sydney CBD could emit up to 660kg of harmful nitrogen dioxide every hour.
That is more than the combined emissions from the Shell and Caltex oil refineries in the region.
Furthermore, emissions from about 200MW of power would result in those nitrogen levels being breached “across the CBD”.
High levels of nitrogen dioxide (NOx) and other nitrogen compounds in the atmosphere are linked with a raft of serious health issues, such as respiratory illness and asthma. Children are considered particularly vulnerable.
So here we have yet another green solution …..Fail. But at least they won’t emit as much CO2 “pollution” that “may” cause us a problem in “maybe” a hundred years time.

Following on in that vein I see the ABC thread here:

    http://www.abc.net.au/environment/articles/2010/11/03/3056199.htm

has gone quite hostile with Frosty spouting denial, denier, denialist etc as many times as he can. I posted the following in response to his latest rant:

The only real mystery at this point is why the ABC mods don’t think repeatedly hurling the denier insult isn’t worthy of moderation.

Have fun in your echo chamber Frosty.

To the ABC moderators… in case you have not wised up to this already, please realise that labelling someone a denier is clearly an association with Holocaust denial, which is a crime in several countries. Effectively Frosty is calling anyone skeptical of the IPCC a criminal.

    For reference see:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocaust_denial

If the ABC thinks this is appropriate for a public forum then I think the bias is patently obvious.

I honestly think this word needs to be moderated in cases like Frosty’s but clearly the ABC is quite comfortable with respondants implying that skeptics are criminals.

I really wonder if it is going to take a crazy AGW type to kill a “denier” to get the media’s attention on this issue. How long do we tolerate this language? I, for one, do not believe in political correctness, but freedom of speech should not imply freedom to slander without consequence.

    A bit O/T,

An ABC moderator has tried to justify to bulldust letting the insult denier and denialist through their moderation at this article:

    Mod,

So how about the non word denialist which is thrown throughout these comments.

Take a look at the following and tell me that the implication has nothing to do with the holocaust (look at the suggestions):
    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/denialist

The fact that as a moderator you condone the cheapening of the deaths of over 7 million people – some of whom for only holding views that were against the Nazi consensus shows that you are either ignorant of History or callously ambiguous to the holocaust.

Suffocated By Red Tape – 12 Ridiculous Regulations That Are Almost Too Bizarre To Believe

Okay, it’s American but certainly licenses (however spelt) are a cash cow
    Just a couple:

A U.S. District Court judge slapped a 5oo dollar fine on Massachusetts fisherman Robert J. Eldridge for untangling a giant whale from his nets and setting it free. So what was his crime? Well, according to the court, Eldridge was supposed to call state authorities and wait for them do it.
In the state of Texas, it doesn’t matter how much formal interior design education you have – only individuals with government licenses may refer to themselves as “interior designers” or use the term “interior design” to describe their work.
In Lake Elmo, Minnesota farmers can be fined $1,000 and put in jail for 90 days for selling pumpkins or Christmas trees that are grown outside city limits.

Sarkozy Castrates French Ministry of Sustainable Development

Peirre Gosseling writes on his NoTricksZone blog:

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has pulled the plug on the French prestige project, a super ministry of environment, dubbed “Medad” (Ministère du Développement durable).

Medad was a bureaucratic monstrosity that would have regulated everything. Sarkozy killed it. The omnipotent ministry that treehuggers had been salivating over for the last 3 years has been reduced to a boring second-tier government department.
