The Chinese Communist Party linked to funding for climate activists in the US and UK

The Chinese Communist Party just wants to save the Earth, right?

Even though China is the largest single user of fossil fuels on Earth, for some reason The Energy Foundation China — an NGO dedicated to worrying about carbon emissions — spent nearly $4 million working on reducing US emissions instead of Sino ones. They also spent some  undisclosed amount helping the Grantham Research Institute in London last year. So we have donors in a developing country giving generously to the US and UK because the rich first world is too poor to fund their own environmental philanthropy groups, right?

Energy Foundation China

The Energy Foundation China (EFC) generously wants to help the US phase out coal and electrify their cars. But that’s just the nice political power that the CCP is (the kind that also builds fortified islands in shipping lanes):

CCP-Tied Group is Quietly Fueling US-Based Climate Initiatives: Tax Filings

By Thomas Catenacci , Joe Schoffstall Fox News

A climate-focused nonprofit with significant operations in Beijing has wired millions of dollars to fund climate initiatives and environmental groups in the U.S., according to tax filings first obtained by Fox News Digital.

While the Energy Foundation’s financial filings indicate that the group is technically headquartered in San Francisco, a Fox News Digital review determined that the majority of its operations are conducted in China with a staff that boasts extensive ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Its recently filed tax form show the group, which refers to itself as “Energy Foundation China,” contributed $3.8 million to initiatives in the U.S. like phasing out coal and electrifying the transportation sector.

The Fox authors list several examples of how the EFC spends their money on climate policy activism. For example, the Chinese group gave $375,000 to the Natural Resources Defence Council (NRDC) — a non-profit in the US that files legal challenges to stop oil pipelines, drilling, coal plants and other mining activities. The head of the NRDC says they get no money from China, and protests that the Energy Foundation is based in San Francisco, but the Fox authors explain that not only does the group lease office facilities in Beijing, but their CEO and President used to be the deputy director general of China’s National Centre for Climate Change Strategy. The program director of the EFC’s “industry program” spent eight years at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The US Energy Foundation gave birth to the Energy Foundation China

Energy Foundation (USA)

The Fox news article could have explained the relationship of the Energy Foundation with the Energy Foundation China. They are separate now, but for twenty years they were one and the same.

According to InfluenceWatch, the large, original Energy Foundation was set up in the US in 1991. Later, in 1999, the Packard Foundation would help to set up Energy Foundation China. In 2019 the Chinese branch officially split from the US larger group, except it based its headquarters in San Francisco too (which seems odd if they are trying to influence China?).

The parent US “Energy Foundation” is so huge it gave an amazing $52 million dollars (US) to groups around the world last year. Ponder that somehow the Energy Foundation China was fully enmeshed as a part of that giant machine from 1999 to 2019.

China, dragon flag.

‘A quintessential “pass through” for donors…’

InfluenceWatch notes that way back in 2014, a US Senate committee already felt the Energy Foundation was a conduit for donors to funnel money to left-wing activism without being easily traced:

A July 2014 report by the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works’ Republicans called the Energy Foundation “a quintessential example of a pass through” for donors who want to fund left-wing environmentalist activism while avoiding accountability for traceable connections to activist groups. The report also stated that the foundation, which cannot support political campaigns directly, transfers money to other groups that can thanks to loopholes in the tax code.

More profits and power for China

China controls the rare metals market, builds the wind turbines and solar panels, and now also the EV’s. Obviously, on a pure self-serving business level, the CCP would be crazy if they weren’t amplifying Green fantasia in the West in order to sabotage the competition. And the idea of undermining energy security and the general industrial power base of the West might also appeal to CCP leaders. And hypothetically, if it did, what would stop it happening — investigative reporting from The ABC or the BBC? As if.

    What a surprise!

    Not.

Who makes and sells most of the world’s renewables junk but uses predominantly coal fired.

Now Albanese , That’s what a renewables super power looks like , not some pissant, grovelling nation of 30 million which spend billions to ruin its grid sends its coal to China to fuel its grid and becomes totally reliant on China to keep the lights on.

We heard years ago that the Russians were funding the stop gas movement in the UK so it should not surprise anybody that China would take advantage of the West’s stupidity. If we know this then the government must also know this and yet they remain silent while we pay the price. Can anyone be trusted to keep us safe and can any government be trusted to look after our best interests? It seems the answer is no and our MSM are staying quiet as well.

Lawrie, you’ve only got to look at our supposed national broadsheet newspaper- the Australian. Today, Perry Williams has an article regarding the big battery that is going to be built on the Liddell Power Station site in NSW. The headline for this article mentions this will be a “boost’ for NSW. This paper also carries lots of sponsored content from “green power” products. Every week in the Motoring section there is usually some article praising the latest Battery Powered Vehicle. So , no, you cant trust the MSM, we learnt this during COVID.

In a few short years the Oz has become woke. Take out a few opinion writers (eg: Albrechtsen, Cater, Credlin) and a single journo (Adam Creighton) and it varies from LINO-soppy to full on AFP/The Times hard leftism.

Any individual or body funding disruptive climate activism (or any disruptive illegal activity) needs to be faced with fines commensurate with their net worth. Take 10% of their net worth for every illegal act they sponsor. It is vandalism or terrorism wrapped up as activism.

There is no point going after useful idiots making enough to support their drug habit and having fines paid. The effort needs to be focused on the groups funding these activities.

Fines will probably be covered by them setting up a GoFundME site for anyone that is convicted of these sorts of crimes by these usually well organised zealots. It might end up not costing them a cent. I think that it would be better to throw them into jail for a spell, at least that might make them think twice before the next time that they try it on. A good minimum of six months sounds about right.

Thanks Jo for exposing the CCP efforts to wreck our grids, but Data Scientist Aidan Morrison has now forced the CSIRO and AEMO’s ISP to admit that their modelling doesn’t include Snowy 2 and all of the transmission costs etc that must be paid for by the ordinary customers. Cheapest system for the INVESTORS but ruinous cost of electricity for the poor customers who just have to cop it in the neck. Here’s Aidan Morrison’s interview with Chris Kenny on Monday night.

The mongrels are lying by omission, again, trying to convince us that unreliables are cheaper, had a look at your power bill lately.

The Chinese government might be wicked but they’re not stupid.

They fully understand how destructive unreliables are.

For an industrial society to commit to unreliables is PRECISELY the same thing as shutting down power stations.

This effectively eliminates China’s competition in the West in their quest for world dominance. This itself will create an interesting interaction with the followers of a certain seventh century warlord who have already invaded Europe (by invitation) and plan to do the same thing (world dominsnce). They don’t plan for this time to fail like last time which took centuries to repel the invasion, culminating in the Battle of Vienna in 1683. (And a big thank you to the earlier efforts of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar and Vlad Dracula among others.)

As the West shuts down its lifeblood of electricity, all that’s left is a trickle of windmill and solar power which will end up being a few hundred watts per household. This is enough for some night time lighting, a mobile phone device to enable Government to track you when outside not on curfew hours; for you to pay with compulsory digital currency; and a Telescreen-like device (reference Orwell) for you to receive Government-approved propaganda and to watch you via a camera.

The Chicomms can do all this dirt cheap because they already have a slave army of Sinophile useful idiots (some of whom post on this blog) who work for free for them and who already hate the West and what little we have left of the free enterprise system.

Of course it was China’s fault that Australia decided to demolish their energy infrastructure. The decisions were made in Beijing and here we are blaming the Australian government. How stupid we are, it was Beijing that sold Australian coal to China to fuel the Chinese power stations so that they could make solar panels, power cable etc etc that all this renewables junk requires. We paid them hansomely, how terrible of them to accept our offerings of cash for making renewable junk. They even subsidised the making of solar panels. You are right, it is the CCP’s fault, Australia is blameless. Australia is simply brilliant for letting Beijing decide that Australia should implement the renewables self immolation.

      David B:
Much as I don’t like sticking up for James Hansen I would point out that his 1988 speech was well after others (including Steven Schneider warning (in 1981) global warming (of Arctic Ice) would see Buckingham Palace 7 feet underwater.
Hansen was famed by backing up for (failed) Presidential Candidate Al Gore and for various predictions that haven’t come true. But he certainly collected far more income than his mere $150,000 salary – I cannot remember the amount but more than 3 times that he reported one year on his income tax.

And the claim that burning coal would see the Earth too warm for humans goes back to 1911. That was before the barage of claims about climate warming, Arctic ice and other glaciers melting from scientists in the 1920 to 1940.

      90

      • #
        Anton

And there was the Charney Report in 1979.

But against Hansen is his jinxing of the air conditioning during his summer 1988 in Congress on a very hot day. US funding for climate science rose 15-fold in 6 years after that.

So, Daniel Andrews made trips to China during his time as Premier of Victoria, including one just recently. Unaccompanied by journalists, we have never been informed the nature of these visits. All highly secretive. Was the Dictator signing us up to some of this money in return for solar or wind contracts? We’ll probably never know. What about the rest of Australia, is the EFC ( not the Essendon Football Club ) active in this country as well?

It should be possible to find out how much Australia is spending on solar panels and wind turbines every year that are made in China (even if they have brand names of other countries).

This information is in the national interest.

      So where is it??

The largest wind farm in NSW is owned and operate by a Chinese company using Goldwind turbines made in China.

Climate change is most likely caused by natural phenomena (e.g. solar flares) and occurs in regular long-term cycles. So it was/is easy for vested interests to influence the world’s activists (who seem to not look at history nor logic) with dubious reasons for climate changes and thereby start up a new business venture (renewables) to siphon off $$$$ from wherever they are able to. An example of the climate being affected by natural phenomena is the effect of the 2022 Tonga volcanic eruption that is expected to affect weather for about 8 years see these articles – https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-02-16/tongan-volcano-impact-australian-weather/101978886 https://www.skynews.com.au/australia-news/weather/move-aside-el-nino-heres-how-a-tongan-volcanic-eruption-almost-two-years-ago-is-affecting-australias-summer/news-story/7ee8557cc3c404b20d15cb413a9905ab
It is interesting that the articles include the following quote attributed to the scientist – Dr Jucker said they expected a very slight warming influence, on average, across the globe and a strong warming influence for parts of North America during their winter for the next seven years.
If this is true, then climate activists will be claim there is global warming for the next few years and most likely never refer to the Tonga volcano being the culprit.

Amazing how just 0.014% increase of atmospheric co2 emissions can be so BENEFICIAL for Human flourishing?
In 1800 about 0.028% and today about 0.042% or 140 ppm increase.
In 1820 fully 75% of the 1 billion Humans were living in extreme poverty but in 2018 only 10% of 7.9 billion Humans were in that category.
The drop in Humans living in extreme poverty has also dropped faster after 1950 and yet only 2.5 billion then and another 5.5 billion increase in the last 70 + years.
IOW nearly all Humans lived in extreme poverty for 99.9% of the last 300,000 years but today that has dropped to just 10%.
Funny thing but I can’t see their EXISTENTIAL THREAT or CRISIS or any dangerous Climate EMERGENCY at all.
But then again I’ve never considered myself to be a stupid left wing idiot.

It is China’s fault, not the fault of the Australian government. We should all unite behind the Australian government and blame China for the energy mess. The Australian government should get a free pass. If it wasn’t for Chinese NGOs promoting renewables – nobody in the west has ever promoted fossil fuels, as we know – then none of this would have happened and we would be living back in the 1980s.

It is so easy to distract people when they are paranoid.

China is acting dislexic.Their labour costs have doubled, the US is moving production out of china – eg Tesla Texas and many many others using the inflation reduction funds. They are reliant on coal, oil, gas and food imports by sea. Imports from the mideast are under threat and even china’s ships are being attacked, but the ping mouthpieces are complaining that the west is funding forces to stop this trade interference WTF. Thanks to fracking the US does not need mideast oil and its obvious they are leaving, meanwhile they fund climate action (like us)- to keep the china economy alive and stop their pension funds going broke. Last the china population demography is a disaster – the sudden move to cities will destroy their domestic market in 5-10 years (Zeihan). All in all Canberra has tied our fortunes to a falling star!
