Who cares about being accurate. The point of being a journalist is to tell people what to do. But after twenty years of propaganda the punters are still not getting the message, so Faye Flam (her real name) thinks it’s time to stop using “climate change” and switch back to “global warming”. Apparently a five year old Yale Study suggests that it’s more scary, and Flam has discovered it just in time to wring a bit more propaganda value out of the Australian fires. “Lucky”. eh?
She seems to think that a George W Bush adviser tricked the world into using “Climate Change” because it was less scary.
Let’s Go Back to Calling It Global Warming
by Faye Flam, Bloomberg Opinion
Seems “Climate change” is vague and doesn’t convey enough urgency.
As scientific terms go, “climate change” is lame. It sounds like something created by committee. And it’s hard to understand as a crisis when we also hear scientists talking about ice ages and other natural changes to the climate happening throughout earth’s history. “Global warming” is something people have worried about for years, though. It’s essentially another term for the same thing, but conveys a planet-wide danger.
She was inspired by Australian Bushfires, because “Warming” means “Hot” and “Hot” means “Fires”.
There’s good evidence that global warming is exacerbating the wildfires raging in southern Australia, but when we call it “climate change,” non-scientists may well wonder what the connection is and how it could have been averted. Call it “global warming,” though, and it’s intuitively easy to understand that if the world is getting warmer on average, then of course some hot places will get even hotter, and eventually some really hot places, such as southern Australia, will go up in flames.
Apparently Southern Australia has just spontaneously combusted. Either that, or science has.
The caption of the photo of kangaroos jumping in the orange haze says: “When the earth gets hotter, some places catch fire.” Which explains why the Sahara Desert is nine million square kilometers of blazing sand.
It’s always an evil right wing conspiracy, even when left wing journalists run the media:
How, then, did the term “climate change” come to dominate its more descriptive predecessor? Some news organizations have pointed to memo, intended to be secret, from George W. Bush adviser Frank Luntz. In it, Luntz proposed avoiding the term “global warming” because it might scare people.
Ask yourself: were left wing journalists really such obedient patsies for a sole Republican memo or is this theory just so much junk?
Then figure out how a term too vague to be used in the media is “useful” for scientists:
But the term “climate change” also caught on among scientists, who have argued that it’s more encompassing, including all the side effects of the carbon dioxide buildup — not only warming, but also changes in rainfall patterns, sea level rise, more dangerous storms, floods and droughts. Seen that way, “climate change” should be the scarier term, but ironically, the Yale/George Mason survey found non-scientists had the opposite reaction — global warming carried a much stronger suggestion of potential catastrophe.
“Climate change” is far too useful for the scaremongers to give up, and next week when the blizzards strike, or the floods come, Global Warming will be quietly packed away again.
Go on — wear the T-Shirt — Global Warming causes Cold Snaps. See what I mean?
I’m glad it’s back to global warming.

It’s just a diversion, and they’re Trolling us anyway.
The Real Game is Diet Change, removing Beef Cattle, Man’s natural prey, from the countryside.
Even though many people don’t eat much Beef, removing it completely will cause a Public Health disaster.
Terrific news for Big Agra and Big Pharma, though.
519
“natural prey”
What are you talking about?
We’ve developed our civilisations on the backs of the Bovidae. We look after them ; they pull the ploughs; they provide the leather; the milk; the clothing , and finally the meat.
Prey animals indeed.
281
Cattle weren’t always domesticated.
Look up Auroch Cattle.
So, yeah, Beef Cattle are our Natural Prey.
Now, don’t go all New Age-y on me, and insist that Man is an Omnivore.
All the Great Apes, which we descend from, are either Carnivores
or Insectivores [Gorillas].
So, unless you’re claiming that Man is descended from Pigs or Rats,
we ain’t Omnivores.
111
Yeah nah. You’re full of it. And red herrings. Not to mention straw men.
101
Stop pretending you understand evolution.
For a start we were not descended from any living animal though we share common ancestors with all of them. We are a great ape, not a decendant of them.
Parsimony can assist in deriving ancestral (shared) traits but I can’t see how you decide that because we have a common ancestor that was a carnivore that it means we are also carnivores. Derived traits are those that evolved in our ancestors after the last common ancestor. Walking upright and our brain morphology are two which were not present in the common ancestor. Why didn’t you claim we are still arboreal?
BTW all gorilla species are mainly vegetarian while some have a diet that includes invertebrates. Chimps, bonobos and humans share a common ancestor with these. By your thinking chimps bonobos and humans are all vegetarians who dabble in insects.
104
Gorillas are Insectivores.
Those huge back muscles are used to tear bark off trees, then eat the grubs underneath.
Common sense tells you that there’s not enough fruits and vegetables in Mountainous areas to sustain a family of mice, let alone a population of Gorillas.
29
they are observed to eat >10kg of fruits and vegetation per day. It goes in their mouths and bits come out their bottom. You cut them open and it is inside them. And no… there are no insectivores that are anywhere near that size. the largest vertebrate insectivores have specialised mouth parts and digestive systems to enable coping with these.
Basically you are wrong and the “common sense” fallacy doesn’t save you.
112
Good for you Gee Aye.
Correct.
A green tick from me.
13
Chimpanzees are Carnivores, Baboon is their preferred diet.
Of course, no animal wants to be eaten alive, it puts up a terrific fight.
So, the Chimpanzee will eat whatever he needs to when he can’t catch meat.
Bonobos are just Chimpanzees, the idea that they are peaceful vegetarians is just more Big Agra Propaganda.
As Karl Radek proved, tell a Big Lie, then keep repeating it.

23
you don’t understand evolution do you? You’ve invoked it incorrectly and you can’t back down now, just as you have not backed down from your other fallacious statements. Even on this blog, just sayin’ stuff doesn’t cut it.
So do you know about parsimony and phylogenies? Do you know how to determine if a trait is ancestral?

Do you also deny that Australia must drastically reduce it’s Beef Herd to meet
it’s Paris Commitments?

We share a common ancestor with another great ape. We must be vegetarian/insectivores.

I’ve alreayt told you that , apart from Gorillas, which are Insectivores, all the Great Apes are Carnivores.

Beef heard has absolutely zero effect on carbon emissions.
Cattle are carbon neutral, they DO NOT create carbon
… nor do they release carbon that wasn’t already in the carbon cycle.
If the climate glitterati can get away with saying burning woodchip in Drax is carbon neutral,
then all animal based human food is also carbon neutral.
82
typo ….. beef HERD,
not heard.. mooo !!
32
Gorillas are omnivores, with a preference for plant based food
. Gorillas primarily eat green leaves, juicy fruits, seeds, tree barks, stems, pith (soft inner stem), bamboo shoots of about 200 such plant species.
Occasionally gorillas consume small animals too if food is scarce, such as rodents, snails, weaver ants, caterpillars, termites, and lizards.
Gorillas tend to favor plants of ginger and arrowroot families.
Gorilla’s favorite plants are Galium, thistles, nettles, and celery..
82
Man is also an omnivore.

Fallacious claims like he is a typical denier? Look at how popular his views are.

You don’t have to jump off the cliff just because you agreed to it. Doing a dumb idea is still dumb no matter what. Just say NO to dumb ideas.
The Paris Agreement has no teeth if you ignore it. No consequences. That was the agreement.

No animal can reach a weight of 160kg without an adequate supply of protein. Many species of primates actually occasionally kill other primates in war and eat them. Also, large herbivores digest the dead bacteria in their gut as their protein source. This is the normal bacteria which lives out its own life cycle aiding the digestion system of its host. Humans do not have this ability to absorb this bacteria and it is excreted.
40
Elephants, Etc.?
Insects are Fat and Protein.
That’s what the Gorilla lives on in optimum conditions.
If it’s starving, it will eat Carbs, just like a starving human, or even a starving Cat.
However, despite the Green Propaganda of the last many years, Man is a Carnivore, the Gorilla is an Insectivore, and your spamming the Blog can’t change that.
13
“That’s what the Gorilla lives on in optimum conditions.”
WRONG !!!
Gorilla is mainly a herbivore.

Hatband alleged:
So why aren’t you teaching at a university?
A pure carnivore’s diet is a bad diet for humans. It’s been tried. Right up to and through the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and even into the nineteenth century. Humans died early from it.
A pure Vegan diet is similar for most people.
An omnivorous diet however, with a good balance between all things — and the balance is different in detail for different people — is the life preserving and life extending diet.
If you want to be a carnivore then go ahead. It’s your health and, thankfully, not mine.
If you want to be a Vegan, then go ahead. It’s your health and, thankfully, not mine.
I will follow what my body wants. It’s not shy about telling me what it wants/needs.
If you want Australians to adopt flaky diets by ousting beef and other meat animals, my country, NZ, will meet your needs … at a much higher price.
I’m not even going to go into the whys and wherefores about our simple gut structure and how/why we needed to survive from previous glaciations of the current ice age.
And when you die before me, I won’t send any flowers nor offer any sympathy — it will be self inflicted IMHO.

One example will suffice:
The Inuit of North America lived in the most inhospitable conditions on Earth for 10 months of the year, eating Mainly Seal Meat, fish, and large Deer in the Summer.
Weston Price found that these people enjoyed robust good health on their natural diet, which was 100% Fat and Meat.
Price noted that they did collect edible roots in the Summer, but only as an emergency food source.
Here’s Weston Price’s book in PDF, for anyone interested: https://healthwyze.org/archive/nutrition_and_physical_degeneration_doctor_weston_a_price.pdf
N.B. Some very interesting comments about Australian Public Health made by a Professor Wostenholm of Sydney University in this book.
13
A pure carnivore diet does not contain Vitamin C. Other vitamins are usually absent too.
Pure carnivores, like dogs, can synthesise Vitamin C. Humans cannot. The difference is most likely due to our omnivorous diet where we list the ability to synthesise Vitamin C and cause our diet provided via fruits.
20
Your close Hatband. Weston Price was onto it….

10
But it was only after the human genome project that we finally had tools to look at what microbes are digesting and manufacturing for us.
For example, unfermented Cabbage does not contain anywhere near as much Vitamin C as fermented cabbage…..etc.etc…
Vitamin K2 responsible for orchestrating osteocalcin to bones instead of letting it build up in the arteries is created by Bacillus subtilis, in Natto and other fermented products. Humans can create very little vitamin K2
K2 is what Dr Weston Price was onto in the 60’s i believe..

Chemists can make Vitamin C out of Goal.
It doesn’t matter, because it’s not assimilable, whether it’s from celery, oranges, or a pill.
Man is a Carnivore, he does best on animal foods, Beef and Butter being the best of the best.

How will “. . . Beef, removing it completely. . . ” cause a ” Public Health disaster”?
141
FB.
As the US population has reduced its intake of red meat and animal fats, Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes and cancer have increased significantly.
The association is considerably stronger than that between CO2 and weather.
Like weather, proof in matters like this is problematic. We can’t put the planet in a test-tube and change just one thing at a time. We can’t (ethically) lock people up and feed the strictly controlled diets for decades, just to see what happens.
But some of us are changing our own diets, accordingly.
130
But that is not about beef. The health improvement comes from a substantial reduction in carbohydrate consumption and an[ energy-intake-balancing] increase in healthy fats.
131
FB.
Most of which come from a diet high in red meat.
40
You’re talking about healthy fats ? Dairy products from grass-fed cows are also included.
41
farmer braun:
What’s your objection to a Diet based on Beef and Cream?
14
I prefer lamb and goat. Also happy with reptiles .
But why the diversion?
Oh!
41
Fermented foods rule. Fermented meat is a much higher source of nutrition than non fermented meat that is merely cooked…the same applies to vegetables. They too are much higher in vitamins and nutrition and even feed the bacteria in our gut better than mere cooked or raw vegetables.
Dairy products are higher in nutrition when fermented than non fermented milk products and on an on it goes…Chinese 100 year old eggs are pretty good too if you can get them.
Bacteriarian diet rules…not vegetarian or carnivorous.
I promote the Bacteriarian’s diet. .
🙂
11
farmerbraun asked:
Man burns Saturated Fat as energy most efficiently, and Beef contains all Vitamins and Minerals necessary for vibrant health.
Cattle also produce Cream, the other essential source of Fat.
Everyone takes the availability of these things for granted, by those elements are not replaceable.
Ask yourself this:
Why did the Serf and the Peasant in England risk their lives just to catch a fish out of the local stream, or snare a rabbit in the forset?
Because he instinctively knew that meat was the essential diet, and so did the rulers.
Bottom Line:
Keep meat, especially Beef, out of the hands of the Masses, it’s much easier to rule over sick, malnourished subjects.
43
You’re floundering. First it was just beef ; now it’s all meat. Are you sure that you know what it is that you are trying to say , if anything?
33
What i’m saying is pretty clear.
Are you trying to whip up a Pile-On?
Because so far, Gee Aye is your only ally.
Credibility problem there, to put it mildly.

It was B.S , and now you’re trying to wriggle out of it. Have fun.
21
Since the human genome project, we find that we are over 90% bacteria and viruses and not human DNA at all.
Keep you bacteria happy, and they do all the digesting for us including the creation of seratonin and a lot more.
The strongest eat predigested foods like yogurt and cheeses and in particular, fermented grains to make Miso and Natto.
Especially Natto high in K2 disolve excess calcium in the arteries and ensure it goes to bones instead…
Our general civilisation is K2 defficient leading to heart disease, ultra poor bones, teeth and so on..
Diets high in fibre rich in oligosacharides, and fermented foods rule. Even fermented meat is higher in nutrition value than raw meat and fermented soy beans are another order of nutrition above the nutrition obtained from soy beans on their own.
Asians typically make their own fermented soy, Natto products etc to increase the nutrition value of simple seeds, vegetables and meat.
21
Dear god I don’t know where to start with this
01
And so…with very little grain, miso, or other variant can be made using a little salt, and with this resultant small batch of miso, a householder could feed a family in the most difficult times…or it could be saved and aged to improve the flavour complexity and improve the nutrition even further …fermentation, fermentation fermentation…Bacteria/Bacillus are the past and they may as well be the future yet again. Modern culture has gone backwards fast when it comes to nutrition…fermented foods are the way forward again….
11
Environmental Sceptic:
If we were facing an horrific famine, then yeah, stock up om Miso and bags of Rice. It’s better than nothing.
But we’re not facing Famine.
We’ve got the greatest abundance of food in the history of the world.
So, why live the way peasants with a Life Expectancy of< 40 did?
13
Bacteria that ferment our various foods according to my own self experiment, are way more nutritious than my previous diet. Being in my 60’s means my apparatus/body is very sensitive and so a great laboratory for this kind of experimentation….The results are good. And as a bonus, fermented foods are way more a lot tastier.
A bag of rice can make enough miso to feed a family for over a year, or a month of low level nutrition if just cooked up. It’s quality not quantity i am talking about and it is time to bring fermented foods into the food debate.
Fermented meat, fermented grains, fermented fish, fermented foods in general are infinitely more nutritious and better for us than the instant gratification of just eating the raw materials without the help of bacteria.
In all this greatest abundance, we are at the pinacle of K2 defficiency, contributing to osteoporosis, heart disease and so on..all western diseases. Correlation is very convincing i think. The people of southern, or was it northern Japan have very little heart disease and osteoporosis and they eat Natto…in the other region that does not eat Natto for cultural reasons, they do have the diseases mentioned in part, just like most of the west..
That is the kind of information that is becoming quite common now. Most GP’s and specialists are still in the 2000’s when we are now in the 2020’s. the science of medicine is being transformed..There are thousands of new papers being published on bacteria/the genome/fermentation/cellular metabolism etc per month, and the human microbiome almost exponentially since less than 6 years ago when the science of looking at bacteria and genetics began to blossom, due to the huge advances made possible for the first time in biology by the new analytical tools contributing to the human genome project and beyond that.
30
Lots of K2 in cheeses
Especially in the fermented ones
like Brie and camenbert
Maybe the blue vein ones as well
10
A great recipe i use for instant soup that is incredibly nutritious and ultra tasty is:
One heaped tablespoon of Dashi Miso (A favourite) and one heaped tablespoon of tahini, hulled or unhulled is better/tastier.
Blend together adding boiled water very slowly, not all at once. Serve!..Easy to digest for a late meal or on the fly……..or add a favourite fish, meat or vegetable. Sky is the limit.
Plenty of Umani.
“Umami means “pleasant savory taste” in Japanese. The popularity of umami has been rising since the 1980s when research about the fifth basic taste began to increase. In 1985, the Umami International Symposium held in Hawaii determined umami was the scientific term for this fifth taste.Oct 28, 2019

Peoples throughout the world who have employed bacteria to do the heavy lifting are an other order of nutrition when comparing apples and oranges and plain seeds and meat.
Cultures that employ bacteria to ferment food have a massive advantage when it comes to nutrition. Being a mere vegetarian or carnivore is just too wildly simplistic
22
And what’s with all the Capital Letters?
You only do NewSpeak?

The Real Game is making stuff up about fires in the countryside.
Even though something irrelevant, removing it will non sequitur.
Terrific news for conspiracy X and conspiracy Y (incorrectly placed comma) though.
61
The food thingy is just a sideline, the real game is whether there is a connection between CO2 and rising temperatures. With two decades of plateau behind us we can safely say the models have failed.
The high pressure blocking pattern is exacerbating this bushfire season to near catastrophic levels and, without fear of contradiction, I’m confident its a global cooling signal.
101
Wrong.
Our Paris Agreement [which Tony Abbott signed up up to] commits us to huge reductions in the Beef Herd.
Now, as much as Australia is just the World’s Quarry, particularly for Coal that we’re not allowed to use ourselves, Australia is also a huge Beef Ranch, the vast majority of that Beef being exported overseas.
Here are the issues:
1. The Herd reduction will only affect the Domestic Marker AKA Australians.
2.With their Market gone, and hopelessly in debt to the Banks, those Cockies will sell their farms to Big Agra for a song, to grow the New Australian Diet:
Lettuce, Carrots and Kale>
33
The Paris agreement is non-binding. I wouldn’t say that commits anyone to anything.
As we can all see. SFA happens , thank goodness.
21
Scott Morrison has stated that Australia will meet it’s Paris Accord commitments.
One of the 3 commitments apart from reduction in Emissions from CFPSs and Road Transport, is a Huge reduction in the Beef Herd because of [fill in stupid reasons here].
So, it’s slated to happen, and the Planning for a Cull that would have to be in the Tens of Millions will be well underway.
22
Beef cattle are Climate Neutral.
They do not, and CAN NOT give out any more carbon than they take in.

Mr Hat appears to be correct on this occasion.

‘The fear is that climate policies would do to meat prices what had been done to electricity.’ Oz
30
el gordo
After that string how about plain “Hatter”?
21
el gordo @ 3:10pm:
Pigs are raised commercially in Feedlots under cover.
There’d be various Carbon Abatement schemes in place, so while the total Biomass of farmed pigs would be included in the calculation of the 28%, there’s no justification under the Paris Rules to cull any Pigs.
I’d say the same would be true about Poultry.
If you divide Sheep numbers between crossbred meat sheep and Wool sheep, i’d say Crossbred Sheep would take the bigger hit, that means Meat Lamb numbers will crash.
Then you get to beef, which has 3 times the nutritional value of any other meat.
It will take the biggest hit, and given the choice between the hit landing on the Export Industry, who claim a Social Licence to Supply Protein to the World, and the Domestic Market, i’d say the Cattle raised for the Domestic Market takes the huge hit.
Which perhaps won’t worry the Factory Farmers in the Chicken and Pork Industries unduly.
Bottom Line:There’s going to be big Winners and Huge Losers out of this, and since the decision will be political, Australians are bound to emerge vastly diminished.
43
“Some commentators…”
wow.. that’s so… unimportant !!

We still have some carbon credits, that should give us a bit more time.

The RC needs first to look at climate change, call up Karoly, Ashcroft, Gergis and Michael Mann, plus assorted BoM people to tell us if this bushfire season is ‘unprecedented’. Then we look at green tape and arson as probable causes.

“heat” in the modest low 20s is being hyped in NZ.
So far Wellington has finally had two or three days that can be categorized as summery.
And all in the last week. 23 was the max.

Yet the shrieking intensifies.

The Keepers at Taronga should know:
“Gorillas are the largest of the primate species and are known as the vegetarians of the rainforest. They need to consume large amounts of food to survive. At Taronga we feed our gorillas four times a day on a balanced diet of fresh leafy vegetables such as lettuce, celery, endive and chicory plus other veggies including carrots, cucumbers and capsicums. We also give the troop branches which is a good source of fibre and the new leaves are also rich in protein. They receive a huge variety of foliage, from fig, hibiscus and even olive branches. In the wild they can eat over 200 different plant species. But why are their bellies so big? It’s because they eat large amounts of leafy green vegetables or bulky vegetation, which contain a lot of fibre, easily eating 20-30 kilos per day.”
31
For the last time, the Gorilla is an Insectivore.
Their main source of Insects in the wild is grubs living under tree bark.
That’s why Gorillas live in forests.
Now, Taronga Park isn’t going to be able to provide their Gorillas with their Natural Diet, so they’ve got to make up a Fairytale about the slop they feed them.
Otherwise, you know, people might start to wonder why Lowland Gorillas from tropical Rwanda are being kept in captivity in temperate Sydney?
23
Hatband…speak to me about fermented foods. This species of nutrition is something i have heard you say little about. I would love to hear what you you know about this.

E.S., it’s like this:
We’re only on this Earth for a short while, and since we’re Carnivores anyway, why spend that time chopping up cabbages, pounding Celtic Salt into it, then stuffing it into a crock for a month until it ferments, then transferring it to a huge jar that takes up heaps of room in the fridge, next to the huge jar of Kefir that you made from unpasteurised milk last week.
And so on, your whole life gets taken over by Food Fetishes. And you don’t really want to eat the stuff anyway.
Or you can keep it simple, and spend 99% of your time outside a kitchen by:
Taking your 5 kilo slab of cryovac Porterhouse out of the bottom shelf
Cut 2 slices off.
Cut all the fat off.
Roast the Fat in a small frypan, remove the roasted fat, drop the Steaks in, sear on both sides for 90 seconds, remove, eat the fat, then eat the meat, then get going.
All over in 10 minutes.

“For the last time, the Gorilla is a HERBIVORE”
Ignoring facts, easily found by any person on the web, is not a good look.
It makes people think that basically everything you say is a form of deliberate mis-information.
11
Gorilla’s are actually a lot like us….they are Bacteriorivores….we didn’t invent all the heavy lifting bacteria do for us. The bacteria eat all the herbs for them and create all the stuff gorillas need to survive.
All the cow needs to is supply bacteria with grass, and the bacteria do the rest…quaint isn’t it??
Lots of animals employ bacteria to do nutritional heavy lifting. All this is new science since the human genome project.
22
AndyG55…The human genome project shows, among other things, you and i, and even gorillas and cows heavily rely on bacteria to create food for them/us. In the gorillas case, all it needs to do is supply vegetable matter etc for its bacteria to eat, and the bacteria do the rest.
Any information sourced on the web prior to 5 years ago is basically ancient in terms of what what we/scientists 🙂 now know about nutrition….it isn’t the plants that provide the nutrition, it is what the bacteria do with the plants that supply the nutrition for the host and what they convert plants into for the host..
31
I am going to give it a rest and see what people think about these new scientific findings.
21
AndyG55, you are confusing Magilla Gorilla for a real gorilla.
Plenty of people got confused by Yogi Bear as well. They went for a drive in the National Park, saw Yogi, and went over to give him a pat.
That’s Americans for you.
Are you an American, Andy?
12
As I said, easy to find evidence that gorillas mainly eat plants and fruits.
So you immediately go down the “simple jack” route.
10
By far the main food of gorillas is plant matter of various types.
That’s just how it is.
10
NO, we don’t not eat bacteria , except by accident
Bacteria are a separate organism that lives inside us and every other animal.
Gorillas eat mainly plant food, of a wide variety.
Cows eat mainly grasses, hay etc
Lions much prefer animal flesh.
Humans are omnivores.
Apart from yoghurt or blue cheese, please show us next time you in prepare a delicious plate of bacteria for yourself. 😉
21
That’s to feed their intestinal gut flora as well. Many species employ bacteria in their gut to do all the heavy lifting.
11
“and even olive branches.”
Gotta keep the peace with animals that big !! 😀
10
Keep fighting the good fight GI

This is where the lie started, after the Hawke government put their own brand of “social scientists” in charge of the real scientists at the CSIRO in December 1986.
It’s not the cows they want to get rid of. It’s the small business capitalists who own the cows.
41
Erm, Ted …all the Fortune 500 Companies are supporting the Climate Change Agenda.
Last I heard, they were the Cream of the Capitalists.
Whatever spin you want to put on it, doesn’t matter.
The Government is committed to drastically reducing the Beef Herd,
there’ll be massive monetary compensation paid by the Government [Us, in this case]
to the Cockies, who will still be free to practice Capitalism, and the Beef [and the Sheep]
will be gone from our diet.
23
Zero chance of that happening. Cry all you like, the government can promise all they like.
Aussies won’t just do a Danish tractor parade, or a Yellow-Vest movement. They’ll come with manure spreaders, hay bales and pitch forks, and they’ll drive straight through that squat white building in Canberra.
31
Rubbish.
Get anywhere near Parly House with a pitchfork and it’ll be the last silly
thing you ever do.
But even if your fantasy happened, what next?
Government here happens by consent, and they’ve got the Megaphone
at the moment.
12
The media have the mega phone not gov.
And media consent to stakeholders….lol..not steak holders.
21
hatband. You should pay attention to Walter Buffett. It’s the subsidy collection that your “Top 500” are investing in, not the industries.
Who invested in Crescent Dunes?
00
Walter Buffett, Ted, or Warren Burley Griffin?
Whatever.
Who are your Capitalists then, Ted?
The local Uber drivers?
02
Tchk! Tchk!
I think you’ve got the bloke.

Global warming is much better. It’s much easier to question things like why is it so cold in the height of summer? Why is there snow on the mountains in summer? Why is there snow at all? Why is the northern hemisphere experiencing such cold?
But then for these people:
260
Regardless of the hype and without doubt the devestating fires, I would think the summer of 2019/20 has been rather mild. Heaters burning in my area until mid/ late December because it was quite cold. A few hot days, declared as heat waves by both BoM and media, but no sustained high temps. Currently my area has had twice the January average rain fall and more to come. All up my kind of summer.
210
At the moment I am in Dubbo New South Wales, yesterday it was 40 deg C and as a regular visitor to the Western Plains I am well aware that yesterday was a typically normal summer day here.
Dust storms are not new, long dry droughts cause them, and bushfires.
And I have been coming here since the 1960s.
190
Dennis,
HOW DARE YOU!!!!
The temperature and dust storms in Dubbo were catastrophically unprecedented.
AND the Melbourne snowflakes are also having to wash dust spots from their vehicles today.
Did j all see Greta in the overly sombre crowd at Davos. No doubt she got there by sitting on the floors of overcrowded trains. She is everywhere – except school. Who in their right mind could feel any sympathy for this pathetic young publicity-seeking “”actress”””?
40
It is a windy and dusty day here in Dubbo, temp late afternoon 40 deg C on vehicle gauge, dry heat of course and not any different to summers past.
My vehicle has a light coating of dust-soil but the drought is not over here and the locals are anxious of more rain.
30
I can report that the dust has reached the Great Dividing Range.
10
Dubbo’s average max for December was 4.5 deg above the 23 year average. I’d call that a heatwave. If it happens again next year it will mark a change in climate.
The summer of 1938/39 saw a similar aberration. It returned to normal next year.
11
23 year average? Strange duration baseline there Ted and strangely enough it happens to coincide with the crossover point of a cooling trendline from 1900 to 1997 and the a warming trendline from that date. In any case the single data point in isolation is a meaningless metric. For a (somewhat ridiculous) example if 11 years were plus 10 degrees and 11 years minus 10 degrees then a temperature of 4.5 would be above the 22 year average of zero but less than previous maxima. But a quick look at the last 130 years of Dubbo temperature history indicates that hottest year recorded was 1900. No BOM homogenisation (science speak for manipulation) because they simply disregard anything that old.
40
No, very nice young people here in Dubbo, they don’t seem to mind old blokes.
wink!
10
The 23 years would be since the establishment of that station, probably at the airport after urban development overtook the previous station.
00
That’s definitely been the case in South Gippsland as well. Fireplaces have been in use well into December and I think there were a few even in early January. We replaced our air conditioning September last year and have barely used it this summer. We’ve actually used it a few times for heating.
I keep asking for some global warming, but no one is listening. So what happens? We get rain.
200
Freezing in the Latrobe Valley victoria…gosh!….when do we get summer? Are we there yet?
And then instead of celebrating the rain and cool/cold weather, the media trashes it because it contained some dust. Clean, dust free rain will be a thing of the past..
“Brown rain falls in Victoria as dust storm and rain clouds … – ABC
https://www.abc.net.au/
1 hour ago – A dust storm picked up by a front moving through Victoria has led to a downpour of “dirty rain” across Melbourne, forcing public swimming pools to close and …
30
Think of how many swimming pools will be shut down if brown rain continues across the continent. The numbers are staggering.
40
At least its not yellow rain !!
10
Freezing here in northeast Victoriastan, we got the dust with rain last night but the stuff here is red not brown .
And yes the swimming pool is closed .
00
Closed pools?
Lightning perhaps? Hail?

Children will not know what clean swimming pools looks like.

Despite having lived in for almost 40 years now in the sub-tropical zone of south-east QLD,and entirely within the same local area of about 10 square km, I can attest to the cooling. We never had aircon, so am more used to interacting with the real weather via my skin sensors, like the early pioneers did.
In the 80s and 90s I can recall enduring the ‘dog days’ of February, in which it was a struggle to get the kids to sleep at night. During post-New Year summer nights the wind would die, and you’d endure the stifling atmosphere until a breeze kicked at about midnight or later. It really didn’t start to become autumnally cool until May.
All that has changed. February for the last 3-4 years has been mild and the autumn weather sets in much earlier in the year, round about March, give or take. In the summer though, we still have a range of high temperature days. But not as many, and not for as long in succession.
The bushfires in the south-east corner of the country this season have occurred despite this subtle yet definite national cooling trend being observed by many folk on the ground (a trend despite the scattering of normal or even ‘record’ high temperature days in December). Just as major conflagrations in the past did. The ambient temperature with its few degrees up or down is the least of concerns with fire risk estimation; the main ones being fuel quantity and dryness. Sustained spring and summer heat certainly contributes to dryness of course, but it’s the dryness itself that counts. Once you get lots of dry fuel then the risk rockets up significantly, although the atmospheric heat does play a role in the simultaneous elevation of eucalyptus vapour from the forest crown. However even here, auto-ignition of volatile compounds occurs at much higher temperature than ambient (e.g. ether at 180 C, only white phosphorus and silane igniting at temperatures found in the landscape).
100
Jo, you need to get with the programme. It’s now Global Heating. Way more scary than Global Warming.
60
Humpty Dumpty ‘words mean what I say they mean.’ Classic philosopher king/guru behaviour, change the word or slogan message as required. ‘Anthropological Global Warming’ not matching the whether? Change to all inclusive ‘Climate Change.’ ‘Climate Change not scary enough? Back to ‘Global Warming.’ Whatever mann-ipulation does the trick of keeping yr populace alarmed and feeling guilty, hence calling for philosopher king intervention… its Orwellian Politicks of Resentmant. How dare you!
30
But it wasn’t very successful last time so it will have to be shouted this go round
10
Thank you, Zoe, for your hard work.
Over my head as well, but it seems to make sense because it is well explained and slayed out.
This is confirmed in comments by folk who understand.
Loved your interaction with – oshansalgadodarcy, January 3, 2020 at 11:53 am
Hi Zoe, AllAboutClimate here.
120
Unix code….cool..I suspect a lot of data analysis is via some flavour of nix.
Just getting into ML on linux myself, but python based.
Python set up on windows is ugly though….
60
The install is easy but the lack of a good IDE is the hassle. There are a number of them available but I haven’t tried any. I got used to the using the shell in Windows.
40
Try the community edition of PyCharm. It’s quite easy to live with.
10
I use Bash, Awk, & Sed, and a few neat little tools.
Most of my code fits on one printed page.
It’s nice to see the big picture all at once.
70
I sometimes envy those who are good at scripting but I’m more of a modular programmer so I can focus on each task at a time and connect the building blocks into one package. I suppose there’s no single best approach for all cases. I actually started to use APL but it just got too terse. I then went to IDL for complex image processing – it was quick and easy to write really complicated packages even with widgets with much fewer lines of code compared to say Fortran or C++.
30
Your envy would fade the second you saw the run time of my code.
I’m a retired financial analyst. My code was great for 100000 line CSV-like files.
50
There will be a lot of coverage (in SA) of the Tour Down Under, and the usual comments in the past have been about the extreme heat that the bike riders have to endure. It was 13℃ at 7a.m. this morning (not unusual in the Adelaide Hills) but wet and windy so the wind chill factor made it feel very cool.
It will be interesting watching (for once) the evening “News” on the TV tonight. I cannot see even the ABC working Global Warming into the script.
The good news is that the hordes of wunnabes won’t be clogging up the main road today doing their usual imitations.
80
The wannabes will be out in force because the mild conditions are far easier to ride in than the scorching heat (wishing I was there to help clog the main road)
20
Given the speed that some motorists travel at, you might be welcome. Had one the other day who did a maximum (eventually) of 65K in the 80K zone and 60K in the 50K zone with me unable to pass safely for 12 kilometres.
But as a cyclist you may be able to explain why they never use the separate (multi-million) bicycle track (the Amy Gillet Memorial) but insist on riding on the road, when they pay neither Registration nor fuel tax.
30
Graeme did you know that the Freeway UpTrack was closed off for the TDU today ?
Why not use Greenhill Rd for the TDU ?
It’s far bigger steeper challenge !
10
Hi Jo, It’s curious what these alarmists do
In order to maximise the impact of their scary fairy tales
But is it worth an entire post ?
I think Not.
For me as an Australian
There are far more interesting things happening.
The “Flipping of the climate switch” story by the ABC
Provides a good news story opportunity
To show & discuss what actually drives droughts & floods
In our country.

20
Zoe and others, unless and until the alarmists can show Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming there is not a thing we should even contemplate doing.
50
Love your work Zoe. Now what would make such decadal and century scale cycles?
50
Useful Contribution Zoe.
After that the responses go completely off the rails due to hatband and all who replied to him.
51
Hatband is just a different sort of troll.
Deliberately trying to pull threads off-topic with baseless conjectures he has no proof for,
… and which are often easy to prove incorrect by simple web searches.
21
It’s officially been “Climate Change” since 1988.
That’s what the “CC” in IPCC stands for.
Climate change is generic.
Global Warming is a specific form of climate change.
But the “proper” leftist term needs to be more descriptive, and … and scary.
,
Here is what I recommend, based on thirteen weeks of focus group research and 13 kegs of beer:
“The coming climate change catastrophe extinction”
( Only cockroaches will survive, according to UC Berkeley Professor Englebert Lipshitz, Jr. )
20
I think you mean Cold Snaps cause Global Warming. The left live in an up-side-down world. So heat travels form cold to hot thus disagreeing with the Second Law of Thermodynamics.
30
“To embrace the possibilities of tomorrow, we must reject the perennial prophets of doom and their predictions of apocalypse.
“This is a time for optimism. Fear and doubt is not a good thought process.” – President Donald Trump.

There. Fixed that for you, Malcolm.
Do try and keep up, Malcolm, you miserable ghost.

Aren’t these the same spin doctors who flip flop between calling a bunch of people [they have made cranky] either “freedom fighters”, “activists” or “terrorists”?
[ in between whatever the Kardashians are up to ]
We are from the Global Investment Banks & we are here to help you!

Isnt the World Bank just a convenient one stop shop for the global banks?

Another unexepctd form of energy apatheid developing? Granted, some people do build in stupid spots, but…..
Sorry bush-based consumer, you are too big a risk to suppky power to…..?
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-01-23/power-prices-rise-blackouts-increase-bushfire-season-intensifies/11890646
“Australian consumers can expect higher power prices and more frequent power blackouts as fire seasons get longer and blazes more intense.
“The group representing the poles and wires industry, Energy Networks Australia (ENA), said retail power prices could increase due to constantly rising insurance costs for electricity networks.
“ENA chief executive Andrew Dillon said more frequent bushfires were putting pressure on electricity infrastructure, with “unprecedented” damage to power poles, lines and substations from the recent fires.
“”We don’t think there’s going to be an overnight increase of prices as a result of the fires of the last two months, but what we do see is as we have assets in areas where the risk of fire is higher than it was previously, that’s going to create challenges in the insurance and indeed the operations front that over time are likely to put upward pressure on prices,” Mr Dillon told the ABC.
“”It’s almost undoubted that the cost of insurance is only going to head north from here in terms of what products are available and their costs.”
“Mr Dillon said people living in bushfire-prone areas could see their electricity prices increase down the track, or have to go off the grid as power networks looked at other ways to deliver electricity.
“Part of this risk debate we are having around the industry is should we continue to supply those customers by traditional poles and wires approaches, or should we start to adopt new technologies — solar, batteries, back-up generation — to effectively take those customers off-grid to both tap into that cheaper supply to make power cheaper for everyone and also to reduce the fire risk from those assets,” Mr Dillon said.
20
It was, by the UNFCCC et al.
Bring back anthropogenic ‘globull’ warming anytime. It is easily falsifiable, and indeed was falsified c.1998 when the unpredicted Pause commenced. ‘Globull’ warming has also been dependent upon NASA/NOAA/BOM undisclosed outrageous adjustments, indefensible homogenisation, cherry picking, ‘lost’ raw data, poorly located/maintained reporting stations, UHI, invalid and useless general climate models, and a plethora of demonstrable meddling.
In so many ways, global warming like ‘climate change‘ represents UN political radiative forcing, a phenomena of scientivistic korruption hitherto unseen and by the way, rapidly unravelling. UN ‘climate change’ ™ or ‘global warming’ ™ ..whatever… less and less are paying attention possibly because they have been battered to habituated insensibility by a chronic diarrhoea of media hysteria, propaganda and indoctrination. The Left always overplays its hand and in this matter, the hyperbolic over reach becomes a graphic demonstration of absurdity.
Orchestrating chaos for political change is old hat (Cloward-Piven 1966). In any case, in so many places it is getting colder and wetter with cold records being routinely broken (and largely ignored), and there is greater snowfall. The Case Against Climate Science is made well. And Bloomberg opinion writers should be required to read JunkScience.com All the junk that’s fit to debunk. There’s plenty to comment on there.
Ms Faye Flam, seems like a self inflated leftist sock puppet who happily demonstrates her own ignorance.
But then, they always do.
But it won’t be for always, and indeed, may not be for much longer.
20
Well, what could you expect from a (dubious) journo whose name rings true to George C Scott’s immortal portrayal of the Flim Flam Man.
Spin and win, you can’t go wrong until, that is, the scam unravels as it may well be doing because of the need for a name change, again.
30
The thought of global warming causes Lefty Lunacy in weak minded individuals, and the Lunacy spreads into all corners of the political landscape, so many political agendas follow.
110
I knew it. It’s the Moon what done it.
70
It is, I understand, an brain infection known as the Lunar Tick.
90
Seen that first hand when someone rang my mum to try and “convert” her to the church of global warming…the words used were that “she didn’t *believe*”…..
60
Its Idiocracy the film in real life.
On a side note..a dirty fossil fuel car drove past me in green woke central, the Blue mts west of Sydney.
“Climate not coal”. was the sticker.
Your driving a fossil fuel powered car, returning to your fossil fuel powered house and put a stick like that on your car.
Welcome to the decline.. 🙂

As I drover in my diesel powered 4WD to Dubbo NSW yesterday I wondered how I would have achieved it driving an EV from the Mid North Coast NSW.
There is a recharge station at Heatherbrae near Raymond Terrace north of Newcastle but even if I drove a 500 Km nameplate EV …
500 Km recommended regular recharge of no more than 80% (40 minutes maybe) so 400 Km and then to account for highway speeds, hills, air conditioner and other factors discount 30% to be sure so range 280 Km.
Dubbo is just over 500 Km, my 4WD comfortably achieves 850 Kms.
160
Drove: I was not droving.
80
“Dennis’s gone to Dubbo droving, and we don’t know where he are”
I’m sure that’s what Banjo Paterson meant to write…
100
Well after that typographical error I am feeling sheepish, and when I told my lunch guests they said it had to be ewe.
20
You may find this road test interesting in terms of EV range factors. Some that are often forgotten:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Afb0W8GJd1A
20
I found a Tesla recharge station in Dubbo, not an EV in sight.

He’s only driving that car and using that electricity because he’s being socially oppressed by the oil and coal barons, man!

Is the globe warming? We have no evidence the future will be warmer, only dubious predictions. We cannot even say with certainty that it has actually warmed except perhaps over the last 40 years and then only slightly.
But sea levels are going up, they say but there does not seem to be proof of that either. Sea levels seem to naturally fluctuate considerably.
The glaciers are melting, they say but they have been melting for something like 12000 years. Is it global warming or is it just warm enough for them to continue melting. I don’t need to increase the temperature of the room to melt the ice in my drink.
Is there other evidence? Climate modeling is producing predictions but models only produce possibilities as predictions and perhaps some probabilities in the very short term.
I can make a guaranteed prediction of future climate. It will vary. Probably not noticeably (unless the media tells you) in your life and probably not up to to your ideal.
100
“The glaciers are melting, they say but they have been melting for something like 12000 years.”
Actually, many of the glaciers that they “say” are melting did not actually exist even in the Medieval Warm Period.
A lot of glaciers are the remnants of the Little Ice Age., as shown by the fact that tree stumps and human artifacts of often found under retreating glaciers.
120
That is convincing evidence that the climate has varied considerably in the past and provides a sound basis for predicting that the climate will vary in the future. Warming is certainly a possibility but I wouldn’t bet on it without large odds. Odds large enough that a loss would be insignificant and a win would be substantial. Of course, I would bet on cooling with the same conditions.
20
Anyone who is living in the fire areas will testify that whilst the temperatures have been at best normal or probably looking at the actual data less than normal with only one or two days over 40 and no more than a day or two in a row over 30 somehow the BOM will somehow miraculously declare 2019-20 summer the hottest evah! even though our lived experience tells us that it’s not true. At least if they return black to global warming it is a claim which at least sceptics can disprove. ( as long as they disprove it before they change the data) Climate change may or may not be less scary but is disprovable.
110
The magic of homogenisation. You get to keep revising the past downwards (All got perfectly good scientific reasons of course ;). ), making that the new scientific truth, allowing for endless “the hottest day on record”
100
“Anyone who is living in the fire areas will testify that whilst the temperatures have been at best normal or probably looking at the actual data less than normal with only one or two days over 40 and no more than a day or two in a row over 30 somehow the BOM will somehow miraculously declare 2019-20 summer the hottest evah! even though our lived experience tells us that it’s not true.”
Zigmaster … There are 20 ACORN stations in the the drought/bushfire areas of southern Queensland and across NSW.
RAW very hot day (40C+) annual averages:
1910-1963 : 14.61 days
1964-2017 : 12.48 days
ACORN 2 very hot day (40C+) annual averages:
1910-1963 : 10.34 days
1964-2017 : 11.78 days
Rainfall November to April averages:
1910-1963 : 73.1mm
1964-2017 : 72.6mm
From 1910-1964 to 1964-2017, the frequency of very hot 40C+ days at the 20 ACORN station in the fire areas has declined by 14.6% based on original RAW recordings, but increased by 13.9% when adjusted by ACORN 2.
However, average annual maxima at the 20 weather stations increased 0.22C in RAW from 1919-1963 to 1964-2017, and increased 0.41C in ACORN 2. Annual average rainfall dropped from 737mm to 718mm. Also, 2014-2018 at the 20 stations averaged 1.07C above the 1910-1963 RAW maximum average of 25.35C, this warm period due to average annual rainfall at the 20 stations being 137mm below the 1910-1963 average of 737mm (aka drought).
The long-term trends across eastern Australia are for increased annual rainfall, mostly in the north, and decreased frequency of 40C+ days.
In the drought/fire areas, it’s worth noting the 20 ACORN stations had an average 710mm in 2016 and an average maximum of 26.3C, whereas in 1915 they had an average rainfall of 432mm and an average maximum of 26.3, and in 1919 they had an average rainfall of 542mm and an average maximum of 26.4C. We’ve had a week or so of good rains and cooler temps with fairly normal conditions likely for the next three or four months, by which time ENSO should be shifting to either an El Nino or La Nina. Fingers crossed the latter.

So what’s it all about?
Take a look at the Davos demonstrators: socialism masquerading as environmentalism.
PM Tony Abbott was right.
160
I used to roll my eyes at people who said the activists were just communists in disguise.
And now here we are, and the climate activists are demand the end of capitalism. Starting to demand the compulsory state aquisition of things like coal power stations. For the good of society and the good of the planet of course.
110
It’ll be red swans next.
30
Well, yes recenlty the world bank was basically instructing the RBA to buy up ocoal power stations to “protect” us from climate chnage…er…global warming……er…the Big Lie.
That appears to be back door re-nationalization of power production.
I recall once someone wise said never give communist control of electical power, or youre cactus…..and here we almost are….
Add in smart meters, remote load shedding and IoT and you have a control grid like no other….
50
As can be seen by all manner of Liberals falling over themselves to do something on ‘climate change’ these days, as that’s where they now see their next voter coming from.
Mostly under thirty, I would think, who have been extruded from the brain washing factory (aka school, public or private) without any capability of knowing the truth of anything these days.
30
Except it totally backfired at the last election.
30
My recollection is that it was Maurice Strong who steered the shift from global warming to climate change, as in UNFCCC.
He was looking for the perfect scam, and smart enough to realise that calling it global warming wasn’t going to work in the long run.
120
Strong was a communist.
“Strong has also been caught up in a series of U.N. scandals and conflicts of interest. These extend from the notorious Oil-for-Food program to the latest furor over cash funneled via U.N. agencies to the rogue regime of North Korea, which involves, among other things, Strong’s creative use of a little-known, U.N.-chartered educational institution called the University for Peace. Above all, the tale of Maurice Strong illustrates the way in which the U.N., with its bureaucratic culture of secrecy, its diplomatic immunities, and its global reach, lends itself to manipulation by a small circle of those who best know its back corridors.”

Global Cooling -> Global Warming -> Climate Change -> Global Warming
Will the greenists revert back to Global Cooling as the effects of the Maunder Minimum hits its stride?

From Ms Flam:
By using the word “exacerbating” she’s let the cat out of the bag by admitting that global warming/climate change did NOT start any fires. Once started, the catalyst for the disaster was all the fuel (vegetation) laying on the ground. By then it was too late and it made no difference whether the temperature was 43 or 45 degrees C. Even 35C or lower would do.
The connection is irrelevant and there is nothing to avert.
140
Eucalypts can deposit 10 ton per acre ( probably per yer ) and the stuff they drop has same BTU roughly as brown coal.
Now imagine 15-20 years of no hazard reduction burning….assuming 20% of the stuff rots, were still talking 180 tons of dry fuel per acre.
Now wonder we have firestorms…..
120
Then there’s your answer!
Collect all the “hazard” wood and litter, compress it into wood pellets and burn it in a power station – all the advantages of fossil fueled power station (inertia etc) AND you are using a renewable resource AND you are removing the fire hazard. It’s win, win, win! Greens are happy on two fronts: no fossil fuels, less hazard burns. Real people are happy: reliable and cheap electric power. Let’s do some maths…
450 tonnes/hectare
9,000 tonnes/day/gw
= 20 hectares/day/gw
200,000 hectares of prescribed burn / year
=10,000 days of 1GW
10,000 / 365 = 27
Degrade a bit because wood doesn’t work as well as coal…
So 20GW all day every day for a year to consume all the prescribed burn.
Sounds like enough, even too much…
60
Too much effort and energy lost in that process
just let folks gather firewood in forests
To burn at home to stay bloody warm
In Winter
Dead easy !
Dead simple !
Dead DRAC !
30
Easy solution. Claim all the costs on carbon credits
20
What causes the firestorms is the foliage, the leaves and small branches, of the forest – trees way too tightly packed – burning all at once. The stuff on the ground helps the fire gain traction initially, but the fuel is in the living trees. That’s what causes the massive smoke columns in the sky. It isn’t just some pile of dry fallen bark at the base of the trees.
30
But hardly no fires start in the crown !
They always start on the ground
So getting rid of the fuel on the ground
Really helps prevent crowning
00
10 tonnes of light fuel if an awful lot of of material in one acre, let alone that dropped annually. Sounds a bit ambitious.
30
Very ambitious.
00
I for one, welcome our old Global Warming overlords back.
40
We need to make sure they define “Global Warming™” very clearly.
There is global warming, as caused by natural climate variability such as strong solar cycles, drop in tropical cloud cover, maybe seismic activity, other variations in solar outputs, magnetic field shifts… etc. etc..
Or there is man made-up “Global Warming™” which is caused by human emissions of CO2.
There is no evidence this latter version even exists, and plenty of evidence that it if purely a fantasy.
For instance, the absolute proof from balloon measurements that the atmosphere remains in thermal equilibrium, means the so-called “hot spot” can never exist.
It also means that the gravity based thermal gradient is the over-riding controller of atmospheric temperatures.
CO2 doesn’t even get a mention.
70
Gravity based thermal gradient. Well of course there is a thermal gradient due to density change with altitude and the limitations on the effects of vertical circulation in the troposphere as warm air rises, cools and sinks with latent heat transfer. This system is somewhat chaotic causing variations in pressures and moisture content over large areas, along with other influences causing weather. The amount of heat in the troposphere is a function of this circulation which is itself a function of surface heat. If the Earth’s temperature increases then the system will stabilise at a higher troposphere temperature. For your information, the troposphere has heated, proven by empirical measurement so stop claiming that it hasn’t.
Now the bulk of the atmosphere is transparent to the frequencies coming from the sun and to infrared which without greenhouse gasses would escape into space leaving the Earth with an average temperatire of some -23 Celsius. Thankfully CO2 and water vapor are excited by long wave radiation (infra red) transmitted by the warmed Earth. The primary excitation windows coincide. 15 microns for CO2 and 14 to 16 microns for water vapor. This means that the absorption at these frequencies is self limiting. Once excited (caused to vibrate or bend) molecules release that energy either by collision with other molecules that then go on to release the energy, or by direct re-radiation. The re-radiation is not constrained in vector so some of it gets back down to the ground warming the Earth above the level possible by the direct radiation of the sun. This is basic physics Andy.
23
Brian you say the Troposphere is warming but I have yet to see proof of it .
20
For goodness sake, research it.
10
Tragic.
00
The fact that the atmosphere is in thermal equilibrium precludes absolutely the existence of the “hots spot”.
It also precludes warming by atmospheric CO2
That is why you are totally unable to find any.
Thankfully gravitational mass maintains the surface of the planet somewhere around a livable temperature.
Just as the atmospheric mass on any other planet sets the
CO2 has absolutely nothing to do with it.
You cannot use the S-B rule on the Earth’s surface, or on a rotational surface with variable solar energy reaching the surface.
You certainly cannot just average it, like the stooges of climate science do.
This is basic physics, Brian..
Time you started learning some, instead of regurgitating parrot-like scientific fallacies.
There is no measured evidence anywhere of warming by atmospheric CO2.
50
oops, unfinished sentence…
Just as the atmospheric mass on any other planet sets the amount of energy that can be retained,
… hence controls the temperature.
20
The fact of the measured and proven thermal equilibrium, means that the gravity based thermal gradient is OVER-RIDING any other internal atmospheric effect.
Basic Physics, Brian.
30
No Andy, just repeats of the same deplorable pseudoscience that characterises this blog. With few exceptions people without any scientific qualifications and in your case knowledge, spouting the same unsubstantiated, unsubstantiable rubbish. For your edification equilibrium means the balance given conditions at the time. It does not mean stagnation. Joanne started good thing with thisn site but as always trolls take over.
10
This post is just more abuse.
The “contributor” has demonstrated on a number of occasions that he’s not here to learn and certainly cannot “research” as he’s telling others to do.
To research, you need an education to start with.
KK
00
“but as always trolls take over”
Is that what you are trying to do.
Back the SCIENCE, Brian.
You cannot provide science to dispute one thing I have said, can you. 😉
We are waiting. Seem you have nothing to offer.
Measured and proven thermal equilibrium, Brian.. 😉
00
It is great that you have just reached the Basic Physics stage, though Brian
Keep striving…….. for a few more decades. !
20
Unbelievable.
Low virtue radiation cannot lift the temperature of the region it originally came from.
20
He certainly has barely reached the “basic Physics” stage..
…. not sure he has passed yet, though.
All of that sounds just like a rehash of all the normal propaganda pap fallacies, with basically zero understanding of the actual physics of what he was talking about.
20
Exactly.
10
Please stop showing your ignorance Keith. Not once in all your comments in this thread and many others have you or Andy offered a single statement of fact.
00
Waiting for your “science” Brian
Or you can chose to remain empty. !
You have no facts, nor can you counter mine.
Atmosphere is in thermal equilibrium. Measured and proven.
That mean the gravity based thermal gradient is the over-riding controller of the atmosphere. PERIOD
Basic Physics, which you cannot dispute.
00
Eh, bit behind the times isn’t it. Both terms are old hat.
We’ve moved on to ‘climate emergency/crisis’ being the prescribed terms.
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/oct/16/guardian-language-changes-climate-environment
But in Germany using the term ‘climate hysteria’ is verboten.
https://www.dw.com/en/climate-hysteria-is-picked-as-german-non-word-of-the-year-2019/a-51994215
70
It’s funny isn’t it:
“We pledge”
“We believe”
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/oct/16/today-we-pledge-to-give-the-climate-crisis-the-attention-it-demands
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/ng-interactive/2019/oct/16/the-guardians-climate-pledge-2019
And it has nothing to do with a belief system, or groupthink, or anything like that. It’s about being “scientifically precise”. That’s why skeptics have been banned from the Guardian site. The science is too important to be muddied by skeptical questioners.
60
“skeptical questioners” ??
Realists!
30
And yet the real, measured science shows that warming by atmospheric CO2 is basically impossible.
Would not want that coming out, would they. 😉
30
Pretty sure they all know it by now anyway (or knew it all along). Just look at their own actions.
10
Now Prince Charles has “weighed in” (??) at Davos with the Great Greta.
In 2009 he said we have 100 months to save the world.
Now he says we have 18 months to save the world. Prophet of doom indeed.
I do not want King Charles as head of Australia.
120
Long live the Queen.
30
6 of one 1/2 a dozen of another.
Imagine if Lord Malcolm of Poopy-pants had succeeded in the Republic Debate – he could be el Presidente’ for life now!
[ & we would all be paying tribute to Glodman Sachs ]
30
There are well-known strategies for Bushfire Management. Logging to remove large trees to reduce Crown Fires. Livestock in Forest to remove vegetation at ground level. Cool Burns keep wildlife alive as it stays slow and cool at Ground Level. Safe Distance Clearing to protect towns and homes. Whether the temperate is 4 Degrees Hotter or Cooler will make very little difference under high Fuel Loads.
80
And NOT planting fire prone trees & vegetation
In our towns & cities !
There are lots of trees and shrubs
Which act as fire retarders !
20
The climate does change and has always done so but the political left’s problem is that this change is not caused by human activities. The reason why they changed to the term “climate change” from “global warming” was twofold. One part of it was that there is no global warming going on (in fact there has been unprecedented incidents of snow in the Sahara (and places like Egypt) in recent years and a lot of evidence that temperature records by authorities have been homogenised (changed) to make it look as though Earth has warmed in recent years when record cold events that have frequently occurred are not reported by the leftist main media. The other reason they changed to “climate Change” is that since everyone knows that climate change has been occurring naturally throughout history, all surveys based on the question “Does climate change exist?” would be answered in the affirmative by all people, even the majority who know that climate change does exist, but is not caused by humans and know that in recent years there is no global warming.
The whole scam, of humans supposedly causing climate change, global warming, or whatever else, is just fake news looking for a name. The lefty globalists are just jumping from one name to another desperately looking for the name with the best fake news staying power! Thats all this is.
80
Glowbull warming today is causing sea-ice growth , mind you ! Today sunshinehours came out with the latest news :
Now there is more ice than all of the last 6 years and the arctic sea-ice will increase further since the polar gyre is very strong strong this year keeping the cold air circling far north with limited outbreaks into the eurasian continent and the atlantic basin . North-america is taking most of the limited brunt whilst most of the cold is stuck and contributing to the icing of this years cake . A small consolation for the true believers in global warming will be the manipulated satellite temperatures for western europe . Davos skislopes will vanish because of all the sand under the arab billionaires sandals .
40
An extract from DJT’s sppech at Davos seems appropriate here
“This is not a time for pessimism; this is a time for optimism. Fear and doubt is not a good thought process because this is a time for tremendous hope and joy and optimism and action.
But to embrace the possibilities of tomorrow, we must reject the perennial prophets of doom and their predictions of the apocalypse. They are the heirs of yesterday’s foolish fortune-tellers — and I have them and you have them, and we all have them, and they want to see us do badly, but we don’t let that happen. They predicted an overpopulation crisis in the 1960s, mass starvation in the ’70s, and an end of oil in the 1990s. These alarmists always demand the same thing: absolute power to dominate, transform, and control every aspect of our lives.”
80
This is a link to Trump’s full speech on CNN:

It has a large number of comments and it appears all are negative.
Same speech on CNBC feed:

Note that the comments are mostly favourable.
The US media appears to operate on political affiliations.

These alarmists always demand the same thing: absolute power to dominate, transform, and control every aspect of our lives
40
I have a question – what has that to do with climate emergencies? (/s)
10
So will you be still calling yourselves sceptics? Or will you move to the more correct term of Denier?
[Enough. See my reply below. — Jo]
223
We agree on natural climate change, except you. Who is the Denier?
140
So denier it is then
219
Excuse me sir, you mean Denialati?
Notice the blocking high in the Tasman Sea is causing a continuation of the bushfire season. This is not a global warming signal.
90
Thank you Peter the Denier.
I hope others will refer to you as that and not some of the rude terms used otherwise.
70
For you & only
YOU
Fitz
20
So you DENY that the climate changes NATURALLY
You can produce no empirical evidence that man made-up global warming even exists.
You cannot follow or comprehend the real measured science that shows that the thermal gradient rules.
The only DENIER here is you
You are the one DENYING measured data and scientific proof.
90
“So denier it is then”
Yep, its your choice that you are a DENIER.
Until YOU learn some actual science ..
… and while you continue to post zero-evidence AGW mantra propaganda pap..
You will remain a natural climate change DENIER
50
You previously agreed with my analyses showing warming is listed to 0.5Deg per doubling 1/6th to 1/10th of the IPCC due to the fact that there is insufficient energy to support more warming than that. You agreed with my analyses of CO2 emission from Solar Wind and EVs being greater than Coal power and Diesel ICE engines respectively. Yet you continue to advocate for these things, so I have to ask you exactly who the denier is because you seem to be denying what you previously agreed.
I suppose Peter that it must be a tough ask for you to remain consistent ?
50
Sounds like he lives by
“What I said yesterday has no bearing on what I say today, nor will that on what I say tomorrow”
30
I thought skepticism was a good thing.
For example, Peter, I am skeptical of your intentions, but do not deny that you have some.
120
That’s ironic, Peter.
Climate alarmists rely on Fourier, a geothermal denier.
Climate alarmists rely on Clausius, the guy who thought radiation travels from hot to cold and cold to hot, who was subsequently debunked by Boltzmann and Planck.
The latter makes you a one-standing-wave-per-frequency denier or is Boltzmann/Planck denier better?
Lots of denial of hard won physics in the alarmist camp.
170
Zoe:
my understanding of Fourier was that he accepted the atmosphere did make the Earth warmer but rejected the notion of a Greenhouse as nonsense, because it would require a section of the atmosphere to solidify without a change in its optical properties.
But that was nearly 200 years ago and Climate alarmists are struggling to catch up with Archimedes from over 2,200 years ago judging by the number who think that melting of Arctic ice would raise the sea levels.
And the alarmists certainly deny Boltzman/Planck when they ignore any radiation from 99+% of the gases in the atmosphere. An obscure scientist called Albert shot down the trapping of heat by CO2 back in 1915. He pointed out that would mean 99+% of the atmosphere below freezing and a very small amount of hot molecules of CO2 (about 69℃). I wonder what ever happened to Albert Einstein – oh! that’s right, he got denied in 1933 in Germany, still a hotbed of warmist hysteria.
90
Yep, we’ll all be “Deniers” until the Newspeak committee decides to call us something else. “Terrorists” maybe?
It doesn’t matter that we believe in “climate change” as defined by the IPCC, the Australian Science Academy etc. We fail to toe the “emergency” line, and thus we are deemed DENIERS
https://www.science.org.au/learning/general-audience/science-climate-change/1-what-is-climate-change
https://archive.ipcc.ch/pdf/special-reports/srex/SREX-Annex_Glossary.pdf
50
Assuming they follow the Soviet play book, the next step is to declare anyone who doesnt believe the huge climate chnage lie to be “mentally deficient” , and thus warrant the attention of the State , for our own “protection”, of course…..and subsequently lock us up in State mental institutions nice and safe from speaking the truth……
Anyone noticed significant investment in “mental health facilities” recently?
Schools can now function as holding facilities as most of them now have 6′ fences around them due to govt grants….
30
Ah yes. “mentally deficient”. I think you’re right. Make sense, then the only right thing to do is lock us up. We’re mad after all, for only madmen would question the unquestionable truth of the catastrophic climate emergency.
20
What, precisely, is being “denied” Peter?
I think you’ll find that most here hold that the evidence does not support the hypothesis: “Man-made CO2 is the predominant driver of the 0.78 C° increase in global temperature over the period 1900-2003”.
https://www.ipcc.ch/site/assets/uploads/2018/02/WG1AR5_SPM_FINAL.pdf
Accordingly, the Null hypothesis holds.
If you have evidence that has not yet been seen, or that can refute the Null, then this is your chance to submit it. And, I mean evidence, observations, not some contrived output from any of the dozens of models that have been manipulated to show whatever the designers wish them to show.
https://www.ipcc.ch/site/assets/uploads/2018/03/TAR-14.pdf
(page 774; section 14.2.2.2 last para).
Otherwise you’re just blowing smoke.
40
What do we DENY that you can produce empirical scientific proof for?
You have been asked that question many times,
… and you still remain a TOTAL BLANK !!
You have NOTHING
You are a scientific abyss.!!
30
hey peter,
what should the global mean surface temperature be?
50
Peter, unless you can define “denier” in a scientific debate, calling skeptics “deniers” is petty namecalling. It’s a way of shutting down debate when the namecaller has no evidence to defend an argument.
To post here people need to be able to write logically with defined terms or the conversation is reduced to meaningless bullying, baiting, and inflammatory nothingness.
What observational data do skeptics “deny”? Which natural law?
So all your comments will be held until this is sorted.
250
Thank you , Jo 🙂
110
we could start with this

and then tie in the responses to this

as well as this

and from a business viewpoint
https://www.bis.org/publ/othp31.pdf
But at heart,
You yourself accept that CO2 has all the properties of a greenhouse gas, but reject the science behind what is happening as the quantity of this gas increases in our atmosphere. Why?
211
There’s your problem. I’ve explained and answered this so many times on the blog.
You assume with no idea and no quotes that I: ” reject the science behind what is happening ”
What is this mythical “The science”? It is merely the word of certified approved “climate scientistsTM” based on junk broken models. Some “consensus” which is neither a consensus, nor part of the Scientific Method, nor based on any empirical observations. Any approved scientists who say otherwise is sacked, exiled, left at airports while their uni “investigates” some imaginary breach in their absence. They get called a denier, and they get no grants. You merely propagate this political witchhunt, and call anyone who disagrees petty names.
For the 100th time, CO2 is a greenhouse gas, it is increasing partly due to man made fossil fuel emissions. It causes some warming. We argue that in line with raw unadjusted data, this is likely to be about 1/5th to 1/10th of what is claimed by the IPCC with broken models and doctored data. I accept and agree with nearly all the basic model underlying the theory of man-made global warming, but disagree that the models contain all the factors, paths or feedbacks. They underestimate the natural variables (obviously) since they cannot explain nor hindcast One Single Turning Point or peak in the last 10,000 years. But they appear to work from 1959 – 1999 for temperature, but not for 99.99% of the holocene, nor for key factors like the Antarctic trends, the southern ocean, the upper troposphere humidity or temperature. They are skillless with rain and clouds. They don’t include solar magnetic, solar wind, solar UV/IR changes.
The slight warming due to CO2 is beneficial, feeds the poor, stops more deaths in winter than it may cost in summer by a factor of 6 to 20.
See the papers listed here. You were a regular reader when I posted this, how can you claim to not know my position? http://joannenova.com.au/2019/09/epa-part-1-has-the-epa-done-due-diligence-on-the-ipcc-climate-report/
Rude. Poor reasoning. Namecalling. Unresearched.
120
Well as a moron (which is one of the least offensive things I’ve been called on this blog) I will agree that in future I’ll not use the term denier in reference to you or any that post on this site. Further I’ll agree not to use that term in relation to the refutation of any or all of the threads, or the comments underneath them.
I admit that when told by the mods on this blog to “toughen up” I thought it meant that I should give as good as I got. I further promise not in any was disparage any who post here.
51
Thank you. So you agree that Denier has no place in a scientific debate.
I’ve asked others not to resort to insults. But the difference between namecalling and an insult is that insults can be defined and substantiated. So I won’t ban them, though I discourage them.
The problem with allowing one namecaller on a thread is that many respond in kind and the whole thread becomes pointless. If you were to disagree politely, which means answering questions, being honest, admitting when you can’t answer, then skeptics will be polite in return.
Gaslighting politely is an oxymoron. Compris?
120
answering questions rather than shifting to more comfortable ground would be a revelation on here.
00
a caveat here though is the needless repetition of questions, often off topic, often multiple, often requiring highly technical and detailed answers, need not be answered. Such questions are better addressed by the questioner seeking out information for themselves and not expecting someone else to spend time researching an answer.
00
Moron actually is a technical term that defines a person with an IQ between 20 and 69. As a technical term it isn’t necessarily an insult.
More to the point though Jo, I have shown Peter the math which demonstrates that if models are restricted so as to not allow absorbed outgoing IR to exceed 100% (to not allow a breach of the law of conservation of energy in absorbed IR)
that warming tops out at 0.5Deg for the next doubling and 0.25 for the one after that.
I’ve also laid out the math for why Wind and Solar CO2 emission exceeds Coal emission and why the end to end efficiency (or lack thereof) of EVs means that they emit more CO2 than a diesel. Of course this is entirely consistent with what you just laid out. Global warming of more than around 0.5Deg per doubling is thermodynamically impossible because any more requires that CO2 traps more energy than is being emitted by the earth in CO2 absorption band.
Peter in the past has accepted these things yet seemingly forgets about them conveniently when he wants to call us names. I’m not sure he’s redeemable or trustworthy of giving a pass on this.
I’d like to see some consistency in his position.
40
Well said Joanne. I admire your tenacity but unfortunately I suspect that you will have to repeat your summary n+1 times (n being a number approaching infinity) and will still be unable to to get many of those on either side of the argument to read, let alone understand. The problem is that global warming which begat climate change which gave rise to climate emergency has achieved the status of a religious belief and logic will not sway a true believer. Peter F for example is a true believer of CO2 induced catastrophic climate change. Others on your site embrace the opposite extreme and reject the concept of greenhouse gasses as an essential influence for an inhabitable world. For my part the factors influencing the Earth’s energy budget and the impact of variations in these are both too numerous and too complex to model. We can identify the variations of the past but despite many erudite papers and hypotheses, the totality of factors causing these are unknown.
00
But his belief is based on absolutely nothing except scientifically empty propaganda..
With his continued inability to produce actual empirical evidence for even the most basic fallacy of the whole AGW meme, it is quite extraordinary that he still just “believes”
CO2 is a radiative gas, that is used in greenhouse to enhance plant growth
A greenhouse warms by blocking convection.
CO2 does not block or disrupt convection in any way what so ever.
The whole terminology is just wrong.
12
Gee, so Joanne is wrong. Brave call that Andy. Seriously, CO2 does not block convection, but it increases the surface warming through re-radiation that of necessity enhances convection. Do try and keep up.
00
Again, you need to provide measured proof of your conjecture.
Did you know that the atmosphere has been proven to be in thermal equilibrium,
That means that the gravity based thermal gradient is the controlling factor,
which makes any possible warming from atmospheric CO2 a total non-entity.
Do try to keep up,
You are so,so far behind in basic comprehension, its as though you exist purely on rote learnt regurgitated mantra.
00
Peter,
In 1859, John Tyndall proved that CO2 can be warmed by radiation.
Then he noted that CO2 doesn’t warm anything else.
Why do you think putting CO2 into a category (greenhouse gas) means it warms, when there ZERO scientific experiments to prove it.
I bet you also believe Venus is hot due to a runaway greenhouse effect, when in ACTUAL REALITY:
https://phzoe.wordpress.com/2019/12/25/why-is-venus-so-hot/
Evil calls good evil.
Stupid calls smart stupid.
You’re reading stupid and evil and lashing out against smart and good.
It’s the oldest trick in the book.
You don’t understand that’s what’s happening. That’s OK. That’s why we learn. Give learning a chance.
101
Here’s some zero for you to read.
https://agwobserver.wordpress.com/2009/09/25/papers-on-laboratory-measurements-of-co2-absorption-properties/
00
Gee Aye thinks the atmosphere is a bottle
Yes, we know CO2 is a radiative gas.
That does not overcome the fact that the gravity based thermal gradient is the over-riding controller of the atmospheric temperature.
00
Gee,
You can study the absorbing properties of sponges all your life, and it won’t mean it adds water to a spill.
I already said CO2 can be warmed.by radiation. You need to peove that it raises the temperature of the source of its radiation. You FAILED.
00
Are you a devotee of thinking photons and gravity?
00
1. Yes, you have indicated that you have a major thinking error.
The link contains absolutely zero evidence of anything.
2. Based purely on models that are based on erroneous assumptions and neglected science
Contains absolutely no evidence of warming by CO2.
3. Every statement in the preamble is just nonsense and model based speculation.
Again, just a re-write of all the fallacies of the AGW religion.
Contains absolutely no evidence of anything.
4. As I said, there is one heck of a lot of money to be made by supporting this scam.
So yet again, you provide a list of copy/paste propaganda links , that contain absolutely nothing in the way of evidence for the very basis of the whole “global warming™” farce
If you think there is actual empirical evidence in one of your links, then point it out by line and quote, so everyone can see the absolute emptyness of your so-called science.
51
Do you even understand the importance of the now measured and proven FACT that the atmosphere is in thermal equilibrium ?
Do you understand anything about any science, at all !!
51
Ridiculous statement. If it were there would be no weather.
00
So you admit you have zero comprehension.
OK, a small start.
00
“reject the science behind what is happening”
The “science” that you are totally unable produce any empirical evidence to corroborate.
Is that the non-science you are talking about ?????
We are STILL WAITING. !!
41
It is noted that yet again, the AGW zealot has absolutely no science of any kind to back up his alarmist propaganda statements.
We have yet to see any refutation of the fact that he is totally unable to present one tiny bit of empirical evidence for warming by atmospheric CO2.
We also see that he does not comprehend the facts of atmospheric thermal equilibrium.
He has not “given” anything, because he has nothing to give.
41
You keep throwing that NASA link around as proof of something you believe in and I keep telling you that it’s unscientific to say something that’s alkaline is becoming more acidic when it’s PH is above neutral .
When you were studying biology you would have failed with this thinking Peter .
50
Perhaps he did. Again and again. Until he finally wore them down?
30
Hi Jo,
Love your site!
Have you had a chance to get acquainted with geothermal denial?
It’s a very serious problem. I don’t know any other way to describe it, without using “denial”.
https://phzoe.wordpress.com/2019/12/04/the-case-of-two-different-fluxes/
Would love to hear what you think.

Someone drew my attention to the correlation between the UAH temperature record, and the 2 year lagged seismic activity.
Interesting to say the least.
Is there a causal link, I can’t find any proof that is tight enough to say one way or the other, so to me, it remains an open question.
51
Hmm, that’s an interesting question.
I don’t know how the seismic activity is scaled. Will have to see if the physics matches. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
20
Hi Zoe,
They are both anomalies, scale by “z” values about the time period mean.
where…. z = {(measurement-mean)/standard deviation}
20
I’ve heard some geothermal denial, though it’s more often: Don’t mention the great bulk of the Earth and maybe the punters won’t notice or care that we live on a seething ball of hot mush with a bunch of other stuff, all on the move.
Al Gore once slipped and announced that the Earth had an internal temp hotter than the sun (he’d just written a book on it!)…but that was for the purpose of promoting some white elephant tech. The luvvies forgave him, he kept his Oslo Emmy, and nobody cares if his many homes are equipped with geothermal jacuzzis only.
90
lol. that was really good.
20
“Global Warming”, pah, never mind that namby pamby stuff, the BBC and its in-house newspaper, The Grauniad, have moved on to “Climate Catastrophe”, much more scary especially in big letters on the front page..
100
It rained and the fires are gone. Wow, this climate change is reversible. Observations will continue to confirm natural variability. Even official BOM temperature records from 100 years ago remain unbroken by current temperatures. But there will also be populists like Greta and Flim Flam drinking the Kool aid. Keep up the good fight people. Truth in observations, accuracy and precision tell the real story not cherry picking weather events to emphasis some voodoo science.
60
Science is marketing, marketing is science. You watch David Attenborough for reality. You watch for science. In breaks between his science and reality you watch commercials where products have been proven good by bespectacled people in lab coats who use microscopes and dangle test tubes.
Women were slow to smoke till Freud’s nephew told them to grab their torches of freedom. Edward Bernays really laid it out for the new age: crowd psychology and psychoanalysis make their own “true”…and true=scientific, right? (Now that you’re liberated by science, remember that diamonds are rare, watch for the Grim Reaper, don’t forget to slip, slap, slop…and put out that lethal butt!)
Did you know that all was darkness and oppression till financiers and intellectuals drove out the priests and toffs who intimidated with hell fire? (You must have seen that movie where the Christians burn the smart chick and the priests burn down the library!) Unfortunately there are still creationists lurking under beds and climate heretics walk among us looking quite normal; so keep watching that flickering box for more fire updates. There’s an interview with a scientist about why the fires will get even worse because of you. Now watch some more flames. Those fires are, well…they’re sheer hell.
30
I’ve recently noticed some news outlets using “Global Heating.” Warming isn’t scary enough.
50
There is some subtlety in the terms heating and warming. Warming is the result of heating. A thermometer can be used to measure warming. A thermometer cannot be used to measure heating in all circumstances. For example, heating ice to convert it to water does not result in temperature increase.
Heating better fits the notion of Hansen’s missing heat. All this “heat” is going somewhere and will one day cause catastrophic change. The test for heating is much more difficult than a test for warming.
41
rare piece from BBC on this cold event!
BBC’s Divya declares the interview is about the “aftermath”, when – if you listen – it is very much ongoing:
17m55s to 22m22s Divya Arya: BBC’s Jill McGivering here to talk about aftermath of avalanches etc.
McGivering: snow is falling again. military helicopters can’t get in…
Divya: this severity – how unusual is it? it’s very unusual – in some regions they are saying it’s the heaviest snowfall in a hundred years.

28 Dec 2019: Hindustan Times: Record-breaking winter worsens, Capital shivers
by HT correspondent
The weather forecaster has said that the national capital could record the second-coldest December in a century due to significantly low day temperatures…
In the northern plains, Fatehpur town in Rajasthan’s Sikar district recorded the minimum temperature of -3° Celsius, whereas Drass in Ladakh recorded -32° Celsius. In most other places in the region, the minimum temperatures recorded were between 1° and 7° Celsius, a departure from the normal 8°and 10° Celsius…
Delhi is experiencing one of its worst winters, with an intense cold spell of 14 days and possibly the second lowest day temperatures for December recorded in a century…
On Friday, Delhi began recording cold wave conditions, when the minimum or night temperature at many stations was 4° below normal…
An intense cold spell, which was affecting several parts of north India, is even more severe now as minimum temperatures in these areas have started dropping significantly, leading to both a cold spell, when days are extremely cold, and a cold wave, when the nights are unusually chilly…
“We are experiencing a cold wave now because all stations have recorded a minimum temperature of around 4° C which is one of the criteria to declare cold wave,” said Kuldeep Shrivastava, head, regional weather forecasting centre…
Leh town in the Union Territory of Ladakh recorded a low of -20.7° Celsius and in Himachal, Kufri, Manali, Solan, Bhuntar, Sundernagar and Kalpa shivered in sub-zero temperatures, the regional IMD office said, adding that the minimum temperatures in Shimla and Dalhousie were 3.8° and 4° Celsius respectively.
RK Jenamani, senior scientist, National Weather Forecasting Centre, said: “The cold is extremely uncomfortable and feels severe because there is no respite from it during the day time. We are experiencing cold wave and cold day conditions now.”

You really are a sad lot.
Lets just pretend that the scientists are right, that they are competent and not on the take. That all this talk of snow on planes, thermometers that are not accurate, jet-streams, gravitational thermal gradients and all the other rubbish, is, well rubbish. Nature will continue on it’s merry way. Do you think there will come a time when you have to face what you have done.
315
Hmmm …
‘Nature will continue on it’s merry way.’
You got that right.
90
How dare you.
31
I believe that lots of geologists, stratigraphers, glaciologists, oceanographers, speleologists, cosmologists, archivists and archaeologists have determined quite a bit about climate change. “Right” is ambitious when we consider how much is not known about the deep hydrosphere, the unvisited parts of Earth (ie most of it below the surface) and all things beyond Earth. Competent and not on the take? There are enough good eggs to enable some trust.
Which is why I have trouble with the cheap slop marketed as “climate science” by political manipulators and loopy Fabians on behalf of the crime families we flatteringly call leaders. Now they really are a sad lot.
110
Pretend ?
Huhhhhh ?
You can ‘pretend’ all you like in your head Fred !
The rest of us will live with reality as actually observed !
51
‘ … jet-streams, gravitational thermal gradients and all the other rubbish …’
You’re clearly out of your depth, but what we know for sure is that CO2 doesn’t cause global warming.
At the Royal Commission we aim to illustrate that this extraordinary bushfire season is due to a quiet sun.
71
The scientists ARE right fred.
The reall science shows that the atmosphere is in thermal equilibrium
That means no “hot spot” can exist
It means that the gravity bases thermal gradient is the over-riding controller of atmospheric temperature
It precludes any possibility of warming by atmospheric CO2
I know real science is NOT something you know much about,
but at least TRY to produce some empirical evidence that human released CO2 causes warming
So far all you have done is regurgitate erroneous AGW junk messages.
YOU HAVE NO SCIENCE AT ALL.
92
What codswallop. If the atmosphere were in thermal equilibrium then weather could not exist. I don’t know what your background is but I would hazard a guess at advanced basket weaving. You see, I do have a science background, a Masters in fact and I have tried to keep explanations to a secondary school level but obviously a bit advanced for you. Put it this way. God said ∆Q = ρmCp∆T ∆h1 = ρmΠm∆θM1∆t and lo, variable temperature differences existed within the troposphere.
41
Ummm you claim “God said ∆Q = ρmCp∆T ∆h1 = ρmΠm∆θM1∆t”
And he did it just to create ‘variable temperature differences in the troposphere’
Ummmmm..You know to me that is not Science..It is some esoteric one up man ship designed to exclude anyone not a member of your specific cult from the conversation.
Better you go back to Genesis !
Much simpler !
🙂
PS I suggest you have grossly misinterpreted Andy’s use of the term “Thermally in equilibrium”
I interpret this to mean simply that the planet’s atmosphere as a whole does not change much. If it did then we would be seeking global increases/decreases in temperature in the satellite date from 1978 ..We do not see that.
But we do see changes in the temperature on a seasonal basis..and depending on the location of the earth in it’s regular orbit around the sun.
21
Denial of measured facts does not help your cause, Brian.
00
“Nature will continue on it’s merry way.”
Great that you ADMIT that the very slight but highly beneficial warming since the Little Ice Age..
… is TOTALLY NATURAL. 🙂
Maybe you are capable of learning
Small steps first though..
51
“Do you think there will come a time when you have to face what you have done.
Those who have supported this man made-up global warming farce, will certainly have a LOT to answer for.
Do you really want your name on that list ???
61
“snow on planes, thermometers that are not accurate, jet-streams, gravitational thermal gradients”
The really SAD and PATHETIC thing is that you DENY these obvious and measurable facets of science.
Yet are totally unable to produce any actual evidence that man made-up global warming is anything but a fantasy.
Scientific DENIAL is strong within the AGW cult.
Their whole meme rests on it.
42
Yes Fred, it is indeed a lot easier to believe than think for yourself.
51
…and the latest news broke the other day…
The climate change hoax has collapsed. A devastating series of research papers has just been published, revealing that human activity can account for no more than a .01°C rise in global temperatures, meaning that all the human activity targeted by radical climate change alarmists — combustion engines, airplane flights, diesel tractors — has virtually no measurable impact on the temperature of the planet.
Finnish scientists spearheaded the research, releasing a paper entitled, “No Experimental Evidence for the Significant Anthropogenic Climate Change.”
The paper explains that IPCC analysis of global temperatures suffers from a glaring error — namely, failure to account for “influences of low cloud cover” and how it impacts global temperatures. Natural variations in low cloud cover, which are strongly influenced by cosmic radiation’s ability to penetrate Earth’s atmosphere due to variations in the strength of our planet’s magnetosphere, account for nearly all changes in global temperature, the researchers explain.
As this chart reveals, more cloud cover is inversely related to temperature. In other words, clouds shield the surface of the Earth from the sun, providing shade cover cooling, while a lack of clouds results in more warming.
Cloud cover accounts for the real changes in global temperatures
This is further supported by researchers at Kobe University in Japan who published a nearly simultaneous paper that reveals how changes in our planet’s magnetic field govern the intensity of solar radiation that reaches the lower atmosphere, causing cloud formation that alters global temperatures.
Halleluja brother ! I believe in global warming. LOL..
130
The paper is more than 6 months old:
https://arxiv.org/pdf/1907.00165.pdf
Greta’s next fart will get more media attention than this paper.
As far as I can ascertain, Helsinki Times was the only popular press that reported the paper.

Advertising friends sites with links but not one word of explanation. Do you even understand the arguments?
Lol. Now the Team discover “cause and effect”? How precious, after believers claimed the ice cores showed CO2 controlled the temperature for two decades before the data showed it didn’t. Which one of them spoke out about that mass media failure? Millions of people misled and who cares?
160
all that aside, do you think this paper has any merit?
22
The title is nearly correct, (as stated below)
They are totally correct about clouds having a significant affect of solar energy reaching the surface and the oceans.
Clouds also give strong negative feedback to warming because they have to transfer large amounts of energy from the surface to even exist.
They are totally correct in saying the GCMs are basically clueless about clouds.
Is there anything in the paper you can argue against???
Look at the science.
[Snip]ED
31
Sorry, but “climate feedback” is a non-scientific opinion based regurgitation site.
It contains ZERO science.. Just like your posts.
It is noted that you still continue to run away from producing any empirical evidence of warming by atmospheric CO2
“Adventures of a climate criminal”, contains nothing about Mickey Mann or his cohorts.
….so is yet again, meaningless .
There title of the article is nearly 100% correct.
There is “No Experimental Evidence for
the SignificantANY Anthropogenic Global Climate Change.””You and your zero-science AGW cronies continue to emphasise that point by your abject inability to actually produce any.
40
Second link.
How about we start asking how much so-called “climate scientists™” are receiving via huge grants from the “climate trough™”.
That “climate trough™” being at least a couple of magnitudes larger than the pittance available to climate realists.
31
I am very happy this afternoon after a long chat with some older ladies who were born and raised on the land and married farmers, they know all about weather and this climate zone, droughts, heatwaves, bushfires, dust storms, thunderstorms, hot summers and cold winters and like to visit the coast from time to time for a holiday.
Greta would be shocked to visit the real world.
41
Oh dear.
12
Oh dear, indeed…
… scientifically, the made-up farce of “Global Warming™” is well passed it FAILED COMPLETELY stage.
Your little cult-like religion is being held together purely with religious whim, corruption of politics and science, and massive loads of “money-to-be-scammed”.
How long will that last, you need to ask yourself.

She seems to think that a George W Bush adviser tricked the world into using “Climate Change” because it was less scary.
No, the White House doesn’t dictate IPCC and mass-media’s terminology. ‘Global-warming’ was ABANDONED en-masse, in response to the intense mockery and panning occurring globally, each time there was a vigorous new cold-snap, which broke dozens of long-standing ‘coldest-evah‘ records. The media (not politics) swept the “warming” bit under the carpet as quietly as possible and coined a replacement term which was much more difficult to nail down and not as much fun to mock. Although the CO2 circus-clown was still front ‘n center.
But “climate-weirding” was the more appropriate term but how does the UN Sec-General trot out ‘climate-weirding’ every tow minutes and not end up sounding like a total lunatic? Thus climate-change won the day and 97% of the media and politicians went “Baaaah!” to signify mass consensus.
41
And all the sheep chanted
Global Warming bad
Global weirding good.
Global weirding bad
Climate Change good:
Climate Change bad,
Climate Disruption good.
Climate Disruption bad
Climate Extinction good.
Climate Extinction bad,
Global Warming good.
Baaah.

I can’t keep up with all the newspeak.
And what happened to “climate emergency”? According to the following video that was specially selected to have the scariest effect on the moron Sheeple.

21
Because he cared so much he didn’t want to mess with people’s heads and make them feel depressed and neurotic?
21
The lie of anthropogenic global warming is so heavily embedded, and the Sheeple are now so lacking in critical thinking skills, I’m not sure how this mess can be reversed.
Even with a rationalist like Donald Trump, I’m not sure his message is getting out, although he has certainly got rid of most warmist policies from Obama, and got out of Paris.
71
In Victoria, the worst fires happen with hot winds from the north, from the hot, dry interior.
The bad fires are not bad because of existing high temperatures in Victoria beforehand. The high temperatures that people associate with bad fires are from common weather systems, nothing to do with global warming, that move hot air and its high temperatures from the interior to the coast.
Victorian temperatures in the lead-up to fires are largely immaterial. They might dry out some forest fuels beforehand, but this drying before fires is mostly caused by the hot dry winds from elsewhere. It takes only hours to do that drying.
Some might argue that global warming is the cause of the interior heat that warms these winds. The question is then, how important is a global warming effect of one degree or so? Is it not the case that the interior gets hot enough every summer to help the fire cycle?
Global warming makes bushfires? No, that is too long a bow to draw. History supports other factors being important, not global warming.
110
BOM admits that the IOD is the cause of bushfires and drought.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-01-23/has-australias-climate-switch-been-flicked/11885300
Cracks appearing or do they actually not understand what they are talking about?
100
At this point in time I would think they are only saying that because they don’t know what they are talking about and think the IOD has something to do with anthropogenic global warming.
I don’t think there is any proper scientists in the BOM any more so there is virtually no chance they would understand, or care. Mostly they are just Marxist oriented paid political propagandists.
50
David M:
They only discovered the IOD in the mid 1990’s. They don’t know what the connection there is between it and the el niño, nor the link between the Indian monsoon and the SOI as postulated nearly a century ago by work in India (where they are keen to know about the monsoon).
Nor can they explain the “giant whirlpool” in the Indian Ocean offshore from Somalia** when the monsoon is going, nor the cause of the other one seen (well) off the coast of WA at other times.
But they are quite certain that the sun has nothing to do with climate changing, because it is constant. An idea that causes astronomers some “amusement”.
** Only known since 1862 if my memory is correct.
20
Not a word on the collapse of the subtropical ridge and blocking high pressure as the main culprit.
50
But which is the cause ?
And which is simply an effect ?
We are at the stage of describing what is happening
But have NO understand of any of the causes
Whether it’s the IOD or the SAM or the Sub tropical ridge ?
20
We know that a positive IOD will bring droughty conditions to Australia, but I question this because its clear to me that a blocking high in the Tasman Sea is the cause of the bushfire winds.
‘At the same time, Australian weather has also been under the influence of a negative Southern Annular Mode (SAM), bringing strong, dry westerly winds — bushfire winds — further north.
‘Last year’s negative SAM event was the strongest on record.’
00
Can anyone explain the causal links between all these weather features ?

14 Jan: NDTV India: Minus 57 Degree Celsius In Siachen, Troops Face Avalanches
There has been unprecedented snowfall in the last 48 hours at Gurez, Bandipur, Kupwara, Naugaon and Baramula in north Kashmir
Edited by Debanish Achom
New Delhi: Well-rehearsed drills to escape from natural disasters have saved the lives of over 200 Indian Army troops in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, where temperatures fall to as low as minus 57 degree Celsius.
There has been unprecedented snowfall in the last 48 hours at Gurez, Bandipur, Kupwara, Naugaon and Baramula in north Kashmir. The lowest temperature – minus 57 degree Celsius – was reported from North Glacier, or Siachen, the highest battlefield in the world.
At least 32 avalanches of different intensity have been reported near army posts, officials said. Over 200 troops at Gurez moved to a safer location before their post was hit by a big avalanche, officials said…
19 Jan: DailyPioneerIndia: Western disturbance triggers harsh winter
by Rajesh Kumar
Intensity of Western disturbance has impacted the wind pattern and its speed in winter this year. This has led to unpredictable weather and harsh winter. Due to frequent western disturbances, north and north-western India including Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand witnessed unprecedented snowfall, rains in December and January.
Cold wave conditions persisted in most parts of north India on Saturday with many places in Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh receiving rains, while the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh reeled under sub-zero temperatures.
According to India Meteorological Department ( IMD), this year, however, January has witnessed four western disturbances in just first 18 days of the month as compared to six in December last year. “A fresh western disturbance is expected on January 20, which affects western Himalaya regions and plains of North West India. This will also brings snowfall and rain with thunderstorm in western Himalaya regions,” it said…
According to IMD, western disturbances are very frequent visitors to north India during the winter months from December to March, with a ***normal frequency of around 3-4 per month. Research shows that ***the frequency of western disturbances has come down over the past few decades as around six to seven western disturbances per month used to affect the north during winters before the 1960s…
Due to third western disturbance, between January 13 and 14, multiple areas in North Kashmir, such as the higher reaches of Gurez, Bandipur, Kupwara, Nowgam, and Baramulla received unprecedented heavy snowfall. Temperature in North Glacier in Siachen fell down to ***minus 57 degrees Celsius, while fresh snowfall recorded in Gurez Sector amounted to 51 cm, with 117 cm in Machhil Sector, 56 cm in Keran and Tangdhar Sector, 122 cm in Naogaon Sector, and 61 cm in Uri and Gulmarg sectors…
The cold wave conditions persisted in the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh, with the two neighbours witnessing sub-zero minimum temperatures that led to frost formation on roads and caused inconvenience to motorists…

I see Climate Change/Global Warming as constructs to fund the IPCC, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a UN political activist body since 1988. It was built on the premise that humans are changing the climate, either way. However in the same year James Hanson and Al Gore decided it was all about warming. And don’t the bankers, insurance companies, green activists love it. Even the big coal miners like BHP agree. And the big oil companies. And all caring governments, especially a hundred military dictatorships with their hands out for cash.
Now 32 years later, the place is obviously not warming. This is according to satellites with world coverage and the essential hot spot does not exist and all the hottest years are grouped in the last ten, which is simply a way of dressing up no change as continued warming although it really means nothing has changed.
However in the light of nothing changing, the seas obviously not going to drown anyone and some very cold winters in the US and Europe, the decision has been made at the top
Do not defend Climate Change. Just repeat it endlessly.
Call anyone who disagrees a denier.
Never discuss science because not a single prediction has been true.
and do not call it Global warming!
Unfortunately, you cannot control everyone and a big bush fire in midsummer in Australia has everyone talking Global Warming again. As if bush fires are Climate Change. Still, as long as everyone agrees that carbon dioxide is a noxious emission, the climatebaggers could not be happier.
So as the bushfire seasons end and the cold in the Northern Hemisphere becomes the headline story, they will change back rapidly to Climate Change. Except what is Climate Change if it is not Global Warming? Global Cooling? Why not both? And caused by carbon dioxide? Whatever you do, do not attempt to explain this. Explanations are not necessary. 97% of scientists say so.
90
And how dangerous is +1.2C anyway. I doubt any plant, animal or human could detect such a change. It is less than the change from one side of the room to the other
and much less than the change across the street. Roughly it is equivalent to the lower temperature 100 metres up, so you can get Climate Change within cities. Even in an elevator. But who cares, any change is a reason for punitive taxes, payments, huge electricity costs and stopping the inexorable rise of CO2 with warming oceans.
No one points out that the say $15Trillion already spent and 400,000 giant windmills and hundreds of millions of solar panels have achieved nothing. We just need to give more.
Think of our children, and their children and so on. Give generously, to the UN/EU/Council/Government/Insurance company/Windmill owners.
90
Was talking to a local urban fire guy in the butcher today.
His one main comment was that he would be very glad when the schoolchildren go back to school after the holidays.
Much fewer fires to attend.

23 Jan: Reuters: UK’s Prince Charles says climate change is humanity’s greatest threat
by Luke Baker
DAVOS, Switzerland – Britain’s Prince Charles said on Wednesday that ***global warming and climate change*** are the greatest threats humanity has faced, calling on business leaders in Davos to act now to create a sustainable economic future…
“We are in the midst of a crisis that is now, I hope, well understood,” he said. “***Global warming, climate change***, the devastating loss of biodiversity are the greatest threats that humanity has ever faced and one largely of our own creation.”…
The 71-year-old prince, who chose to make the final leg of his journey to Davos by electric car rather than helicopter…
“What good is all the extra wealth in the world, gained from ‘business as usual’, if you can do nothing with it except watch it burn in catastrophic conditions?” said Charles, who was at Davos to launch a Sustainable Markets Initiative that aims to find ways to decarbonize the global economy…
He said he would hold a series of meetings this year with industry leaders in sectors ranging from aviation and water to fisheries, steel and agriculture, joking that “at the end of which I shall probably be dead”…
“Everything I have tried to do, and urge, over the past fifty years has been done with our children and grandchildren in mind, because I did not want to be accused by them of doing nothing except prevaricate and deny the problem,” said Charles, who met (Greta) Thunberg after his speech…
After leaving Davos, Charles will head (NOT BY ELECTRIC CAR, PRESUMABLY) to the Middle East, becoming the most senior British royal to pay an official visit to Israel and the Palestinian Territories…

Wallace Simpson made one strategic error — she failed to get pregnant ASAP to produce an “anchor” like Meg did for the pending divorce mega-settlement when Harry comes out of his trance. Meg’s got it all sussed.

Maybe because at her third marriage she was 43?

Good point. I wasn’t being particularly serious though. The circumstances are obviously quite different in so many ways, but Megan is a sharp operator. Spiriting Archie off to Canada was the tactical manoeuvre of someone wanting to hold the Royals over a barrel. That particular move has yet to play out in full.

Had megs actually done her homework, she’d have probably not got married to Harry, as she would have known what she was getting into….

She did her homework years ago. She knew exactly what she was getting into, what she wanted and how to get it. All she needed was a sucker prince to set her plan in motion. Meghan Inc is only just getting started.

With global warming affecting the planet, we’re seeing more and more extreme weather all over the world. We’ve written extensively about the bushfires (and now floods) ravaging Australia. But it’s not the only place to see unprecedented weather. A massive blizzard hit Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada, covering the area in huge amounts of snow…

19 Jan: Guardian: Reuters: ‘Snowmageddon’: cleanup begins after record Newfoundland storm
Blizzard dumps nearly 80cm of snow on Canadian city of St John’s as government says military reserves may be called up
The snowfall was an all-time record for the day for St John’s international airport…
“We have a real issue right now with access to the hospital,” O’Regan told reporters in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where the prime minister Justin Trudeau’s government is meeting for two days in a what it has called a retreat.
Commenting on the scale of the blizzard, O’Regan said: “It’s snow and a hurricane, and snow and a hurricane shuts down a city.”…
Earlier, the provincial premier asked the government for support, including “mobilising the Canadian armed forces”…
Thousands remained without power. On social media people described the storm as “snowmageddon”. Images showed people had begun to literally dig out of their homes after snowdrifts blocked their doorways…
“Help is on the way,” Trudeau tweeted.

The left wing MSM misinformation brigade are obviously now in full force, trying to maximise their agenda with fake news on the drought and fires. This story in the SMH yesterday on a Koala seeking water takes first prize for fake news on rainfall stats.
https://www.smh.com.au/national/koalas-drinking-from-human-hands-is-not-normal-20200108-p53px4.html
The main offending quote is here. “Australia has already warmed by one degree Celsius, and the Bureau of Meteorology tells us they are seeing long-term reductions in NSW’s rainfall”.
However, a quick inspection on the BOM’s long-term rainfall stats for NSW shows the rainfall is increasing since 1900 by 4.24mm per decade, which is the exact opposite of what is reported in the SMH article.
http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/change/#tabs=Tracker&tracker=timeseries&tQ=graph%3Drain%26area%3Dnsw%26season%3D0112%26ave_yr%3D
Also, there is nothing unusual about wild animals seeking water and feed from humans and I’m sure almost every person living near bushland will have a story on their interactions with wildlife.
What constantly amazes me is how these people can blatantly lie and yet avoid any scrutiny.
40
That’s always the case when people of authority (mainstream scientists) proclaim so often and loudly that CAGW is real. The MSM, politicians and education systems then jump on the bandwagon believing it’s all true, which of course it’s not. Not many do their own research to find the truth. So the lies keep rolling on largely uncontested while it snowballs into one big scam as the elite come into the picture to make huge slabs of money from it and help to keep it going as long as possible. It could be stopped in its tracks if the scientific community came out and admitted it’s all a hoax that has gone too far. Meanwhile countries like China continue to build coal fired power stations in the many hundreds making the West in general and Australia especially look like complete fools.

The constant theme in the recent left-wing MSM media stories contains the implication that only action by Australia on climate change will fix the fires and droughts that have persisted throughout our history. This is despite the fact that global emissions are rising by 3% per annum, which is the equivalent of one extra Australia every 4 months. Thus, even if the alarmist greens could have their way and instantly vanish Australia from the face of the earth, 5 months later the CO2 levels would be higher and still increasing by 3%, all due to the developing countries that have no binding commitments to reduce their emissions and yet are responsible for 2/3 of all emissions and rising rapidly. I think a good analogy with green climate policy is to compare bailing out a sinking boat, where the alarmist greens are demanding we use a small cup and ignore the whole barrel that gets added with each extraction by our small cup and still continue the line that this will provide salvation. Of course in the real world of CC we can barely measure the purported change which exists mainly in adjustments to historical measurements and flowed science and we live in a world where there are more people, more food and less poverty as each year passes, all in contradiction to the left wing mantra.

forget all the opening remarks by Trump & others on US economic success plus the world economy. as soon as the “hacks” get to ask questions, the first is about the “impeachment” process, and the second is the following:
22 Jan: White House: Remarks by President Trump in Press Conference | Davos, Switzerland
Q Yes, Mr. President. You were the keynote speaker here, but you shared some of the spotlight with a Scandinavian teenager: Greta Thunberg —
THE PRESIDENT: Oh, that’s very nice.
Q — who you had said needs to work on her anger. She had some very harsh words about —
THE PRESIDENT: I didn’t say “anger.” I said “anger management.”
Q “Anger management.” Yes, sir.
She had some very strong words here that the United States and other industrialized countries need to do more. Do you still feel that you’re doing enough? You talk about clean air —
THE PRESIDENT: How old — how old is she?
Q She’s —
Q Seventeen.
Q Seventeen now. Yes.
THE PRESIDENT: Oh. That’s good.
Q But what is your response to her —
THE PRESIDENT: She beat me out on TIME Magazine.
Q But did you hear from other world leaders and business leaders who said that they think that she has a message that you should listen to?
THE PRESIDENT: No, I didn’t, actually. But I would have loved to have seen her speak. I did not.
Q Do you still think climate change is hoax?
THE PRESIDENT: No, not at all. I think what is — I think aspects of it are. I think that some people are — they put it at a level that is, you know, unrealistic, to a point you can’t live your lives.
We want to have the cleanest water on Earth. We want to have the cleanest air on Earth. Our numbers, as you saw — we had record numbers come out very recently. Our numbers are very, very good — our environmental numbers. Our water numbers, our — our numbers on air are tremendous.
We have to do something about other continents. We have to do something about other countries. When we’re clean and beautiful and everything is good, but you have another continent where the fumes are rising at levels that you can’t believe — I mean, I think Greta ought to focus on those places.
But we are doing better right now than we’ve ever done, in terms of cleanliness, in terms of numbers. We have a beautiful ocean called the Pacific Ocean, where thousands and thousands of tons of garbage flows toward us, and that’s put there by other countries. So I think Greta has to start working on those other countries…

22 Jan: Forbes: Trump calls out Asia on coal
by Simon Lack
The U.S. Energy Information Administration recently published a forecast of global electricity generation, headlined with, “…less than a quarter of the world’s electricity generated from coal by 2050.” It’s drawn from their 2019 International Energy Outlook.
This sounds like good news, since coal is the dirtiest fossil fuel. It’s responsible both for harmful CO2 emissions and local pollution. So using less coal is a good thing.
But the world is still gong to burn more coal, because electricity production is expected to almost double by 2050. Coal will lose market share, but will still increase in absolute terms.
India is forecast to overtake China in many respects, and its 31 quadrillion BTUs increase in energy consumption over the next 30 years is 40% of the total world increase. India’s share of energy-intensive manufacturing will leap from 11% in 2018 to 25% by 2050.
So a big surprise is how little India will rely on natural gas to provide this increased energy. Although today China burns half the world’s coal, India is set to be the fastest growing user. The EIA projects that coal-based electricity generation in India will more than double over the next thirty years. As they dryly note, India, “…does not have an aggressive emissions reduction policy in place.”…
There are signs politicians are starting to take notice. UK PM Boris Johnson said, “There’s no point in the UK reducing the amount of coal we burn if we then trundle over to Africa and line our pockets by encouraging African states to use more of it.”
Precocious high school dropout Greta Thunberg recently lamented that, “Pretty much nothing has been done since the global emissions of CO2 has not reduced.”… As agents of change, she and her climate extremist partners are failing miserably. As Trump said, “…you have another continent where the fumes are rising at levels that you can’t believe. …I think Greta ought to focus on those places.” Greta, get over to Asia where the real problem lies.

22 Jan: Australian: Facts trump the fears
The US President Donald Trump was the clear winner at the World Economic Forum at Davos, despite the best efforts of climate doomsayers
by Adam Creighton
The theme for the World Economic forum in Davos this week is “Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World”. It’s a noble aim but one that’s looking increasingly unlikely…
Trump struck the wrong, upbeat tone at a conference convened on the premise of an urgent need for action to save the planet, revelling in the US’s new-found position as the world’s No 1 producer of oil and natural gas…
If Davos has made anything clear, it’s that any revolution will be powered by fossil fuels. The views of the democratically elected Trump will overwhelm those of the technocrats…
Without a rapid embrace of nuclear energy, it’s unlikely that fossil fuels will be phased out any time soon. The share of fossil fuels will decline only from 81 per cent today to 74 per cent by 2040, the International Energy Agency says.
“Despite the considerable investments, renewable energies, such as wind power and photovoltaics are still not capable of satisfying the growing global energy demand,” noted Eric Heymann, a top resource analyst at Deutsche Bank, in a recent analysis.
All the panels in the world can’t change that basic fact.

Surely wind should be added to the 3 harbingers of fires? Without it you’ll have bush fires, but will you have wild fires, or crown fires? At what wind speed do things begin to become very hairy?
10
Good question. Wind should definitely be added to the list.
All the media focus on dirty rain means I myself am worried about the recent “dirty rain” and the “brown rain” and in particular the idea that maybe clean rain will be a thing of the past. It’s been shutting down swimming pools. A whole generation might not never know what a swimming pool looks like!
10
Well I have been getting left behind. I haven’t found the time to pay full attention.
But I would be very pleased if they dropped the term Climate Change, because it has become meaningless.
I am pleased to see them come back to Global Warming, because that can be pinned to numbers.
Just don’t forget that the real issue is Carbon Dioxide.
And that the measure of their catastrophe was/is rapidly rising sea levels.
40
Take a step back.
Analyze what is happening.
The AGW / Warming/ Climate Change/Etc are all designed to generate fear, political action, directed investment, seizure of power, and to deny actual property rights in favour of “process rights” which, once again, deny actual rights.
This is a “herding” process. Frighten the populace, offer solutions at the expense of the populace, shroud it all in esoteric future calamity, and use the administrative state power to strip citizens of any property or process rights not “granted” by the politically motivated Administrative State.
This is nothing but a Power Grab. Regardless of how it is justified.
Think about defensive moves. Not arguments for eternity. Legally enforceable moves.
Fore instance:
If AGW is used as a justification for :
Increased property insurance premiums
Closure of thermal power generation
Loss of employment and/or industry
Increased Utility rates
Unreliable Power supply
& etc
Every one of these actions result in costs to the populace based upon no provable basis other than fearmongering and propaganda. There is no absolute justification. Simply models and opinions.
Why not require the advocates of “action” to post a dedicated bond equivalent to the foreseeable economic impact as compensation “if they are wrong”.
Otherwise, everyone is simply being bullied into submission without recourse and at no risk to the propagandists.
Not sure such is possible, but: Unless the fearmongers have “skin in the game”, they bear zero risk for their adventures and profits.

Hi Jo
Did you see ABC News breakfast this morning? They were talking about how international tourists are canceling their holidays in Aus because they think the whole country is now just one big charred pile of ash. Apparently people overseas think Melbourne is under a cloud of toxic smoke! I had to laugh as the presenters in their usual ABC unself-awareness looked at each other shaking their heads wondering how could this possibly be.
Could it be because the only story of note out of Australia in the last 2 months has been bushfires? That words such as unprecedented, catastrophic, disastrous etc. etc. were repeated over and over and over? That third rate tennis players looking for an excuse for their inability to play tennis made use of smoke haze to explain their dud performances? So on and so on. No wonder people outside the country think Australia is stuffed.
It was such good fun to hysterically report the fires as if it was the end of the world but now the cost of this media hysteria is coming home suddenly none of the media perpetrators can imagine how their doomsday reporting might have lead people think the whole country was finished.
Oh well on to the next story. The meeting of Saint Greta and Prince Chiller. Not since Greta met Attenborough have two acknowledged giants of climate scientology come together to issue such dire warnings of the end of days. oooo scary!

Crescent Dunes was developed with $737 million in U.S. Department of Energy loan guarantees and run by a SolarReserve-linked entity called Tonopah Solar Energy…

And last August, S&P Global Platts said the plant had only achieved a 0.3 percent capacity factor in the second quarter of 2019, delivering a paltry 765 megawatt-hours of power to the grid.
One of the highest-profile failures at Crescent Dunes was an eight-month shutdown caused by a leak in the plant’s molten salt thermal storage tank…READ ALL

Refugees whose lives are threatened by climate change can’t be sent back, ruling said
Speaking to Reuters at the World Economic Forum, Filippo Grandi said a UN ruling this week meant those fleeing as a result of climate change deserved international protection, and that it had broad implications for governments.
The UN Human Rights Committee made the landmark ruling on Monday in relation to Ioane Teitiota, from the Pacific nation of Kiribati, who brought a case against New Zealand after authorities denied his claim of asylum…
Potential drivers include wildfires like those seen in Australia, rising sea levels affecting low-lying islands, the destruction of crops and livestock in sub-Saharan Africa and floods worldwide, not least in parts of the developed world…
Yet the convention relating to the status of refugees, signed in 1951, made no provision for climate change as a reason for people to flee their country and seek asylum elsewhere. As climate impacts grow, legal questions become more complicated…

Three quarters of Scotland’s 2.6 million homes have some form of disrepair, a substantial increase on the previous year, a report has revealed.
The Scottish government published its analysis into the state of the country’s homes yesterday.
The Scottish House Condition Survey also revealed that 57 per cent of properties have “disrepair to critical elements”, up seven percentage points. The number of homes requiring urgent repairs increased in 2018 from 28 per cent to 30 per cent.
The survey also showed that fuel poverty rose for the first time in five years, with 25 per cent of households struggling with energy costs. It rose from just under 24 per cent the previous year…

Weather picks up over QLD and NT. ECMWF shows a large patch of over 250 mm within the next 7 days forecast for QLD’s Western Desert area, SW of Mt Isa, and immediately West of Dejarra down to Boulia, then over the other side of the NT border (all dry gibber desert there). There is an optimistic patch of 835 mm forecast over to QLD-NT border region. Channel country may get a flush from it. Falls begin from late tomorrow night, for 5 to 6 days, especially on and after Australia Day. The low travels generally SW from there towards Alice Springs and the rock then towards the Nullarbor. Most of the Top End and NQ should get 100 to 150 mm over the next 10 days, with higher areas in it, with weak monsoon. Looks much better for rain in the North first week of Feb. Tropical activity comes back. Areas north of a line from Sarina to Longreach, west to the NT border get most of the rain, the bulk of the rain falls over Western QLD to the north of that line all the way to the Gulf. Not bad a bad start it tracks roughly as forecast.

23 Jan: Carbon Pulse: Doubts emerge for China ETS launch amid new leadership, virus outbreak
Uncertainty is emerging over the amount of progress China will make on its national emissions trading scheme this year as responsibility this week shifted to a new senior government official, while the outbreak of the Coronavirus raises risks of a policy standstill.
Updated 23 Jan: Carbon Pulse: China coal-powered generation rise paves way for bumper CO2 allocation
China’s coal-fired power generation rose 1.7% in 2019 and is set to grow further this year, according to the main power sector industry lobby group, paving the way for CO2 allocation in the national emissions trading scheme to be nearly triple that of the EU market.
Updated 23 Jan: EconomicTimesIndia: China to stop subsidy for offshore renewables, eyes 2021 start for green quota trading
The move comes as China, whose renewable power installations make up about 41 per cent of total energy capacity, aims to cut a backlog of subsidy payments exceeding 100 billion yuan ($14.5 billion) and achieve “grid price parity”
BEIJING: China will halt subsidies for new offshore wind power and concentrated solar power (CSP) projects and adopt a green certificate quota trading scheme from next year, the country’s Ministry of Finance said.
The move comes as China, whose renewable power installations make up about 41 per cent of total energy capacity, aims to cut a backlog of subsidy payments exceeding 100 billion yuan ($14.5 billion) and achieve “grid price parity”.
“Wind and solar power is capable to compete subsidy-free with traditional energy sources, such as coal-fired power,” the Ministry of Finance said in a statement late on Wednesday.
However, new offshore wind and CSP projects, approved by authorities and expected to launch by end-2021, will still be granted subsidies, the ministry added.
Beijing has wound down financial support for renewable power projects that led to a turmoil in the industry and stirred concerns over its energy policy…
A senior climate change official last week told Reuters China expects to make a “breakthrough” in setting up a nationwide carbon emission trading scheme (ETS) by year-end, and is weighing setting targets for emission cuts to methane, a major climate-warming gas following carbon dioxide.

23 Jan: Carbon Pulse: Blame game ensues in Australia as climate action moment set to pass
The outlook for Australia to step up efforts on climate change in the wake of the massive forest fires is dimming as the government has shifted focus to hazard prevention and is blaming state agencies for failing in their responsibilities.

23 Jan: UK Telegraph: Davos Doom-mongers herald a new dark age for climate science
by Sherelle Jacobs
Western civilisation has ditched evidence-based rigour for adolescent hysteria
There is something sinister in the stiff mountain air at Davos this year. As ever, the spectacle is almost burlesque in its grotesqueness: the world’s elite has descended on the luxury ski resort in their private jets to discuss global warming over pan-seared Indonesian soy cutlets cooked by a celebrity vegan chef flown in from Canada. But underneath the seedy hypocrisy lingers an even murkier mendacity: an unthinking consensus on how to “save the planet”.
Take the speech by Greta Thunberg, who rattled off Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change figures pertaining to requisite cuts in carbon emissions. “I’ve been repeating these numbers over and over again,” she droned as gormless CEOs and UN apparatchiks blinked at the hoodie-clad managtivist standing before them, grinding on about missed deadlines and squandered targets.
Greta’s bland, corporate-friendly strategy is intriguing; it reinforces her ruse – that the science is mind-numbingly clear, the necessary actions are unquestionable, and that her task is simply to “continue to repeat” it until we are bored.
Naturally, Donald Trump was having none of it. He let rip at this paper-shufflers’ PR stunt, dismissing the “predictions of the apocalypse” and “prophets of doom”. In his own ham-fisted way, the president was groping at – if not quite grasping – the disconcerting truth. Global warming is happening, but the climate science itself is messy, mystifying and ambivalent; the certainty with which eco-warriors present their case is thus disgracefully dishonest.
The causal links made between global warming and the Australian bushfires is one example. Greta has tweeted her despair at the world’s failure “to make the connection between the climate crisis and extreme weather events and nature disasters like the #AustralianFires”. But the inconvenient truth is that scientists have not definitively linked the bushfires to climate change alone. It may be a factor among many. The Australian Academy of Science itself concedes: “Population growth, climate change, temperature extremes, droughts, storms, wind and floods are intersecting in ways that are difficult to untangle.”
The misleading bushfires rhetoric barely scratches the surface of the problems with this consensus…
You don’t need to dispute that man is contributing to global warming to question whether it is healthy to talk about the issue with such unwavering certainty, or to ask whether the situation is so urgent as to require the impoverishment of billions to fix it. Scientists have not indisputably proved that other factors are not also contributing. Studies of the heat going into the oceans by dissenters like the Israeli physicist Nir Shaviv, for example, suggest the Sun has a large effect on climate change. Eco-catastrophists have not credibly invalidated his findings, published in the prestigious Journal of Geophysical Research.
Such uncertainties matter when people are being asked to make vast sacrifices in the name of reaching net zero carbon…READ ALL

22 Jan: UK Telegraph: Ursula von Der Leyen threatens a carbon border tax, opening new front in the trade wars
By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard, in Davos
The European Union has thrown down the gauntlet on global climate, vowing to impose a politically-explosive carbon border tax on imports from recalcitrant polluting states…
Mrs von Der Leyen left no doubt that this means zero-tolerance treatment of “free riders” that drag their feet and persist in plundering the global commons, hinting that they would be shut of the “largest single market in the world” and risk losing their trading privileges.
“We for sure will be moving out of fossil fuels,” she said. A draft version of the border tax has been circulating in Brussels for weeks but it is now gathering unstoppable momentum.
The plan for a carbon border adjustment tax has become a neuralgic issue. China has already lashed out, calling it a lurch towards unilateralism and a disguised form of trade protection…
The EU’s Green Deal – “Europe’s man on the moon moment,” as she puts it – aims to cut CO2 emissions by 55pc from 1990 levels by 2030. This implies draconian curbs and a step-change in the whole policy structure. It is to be backed by €1 trillion of cheap investment funding from the European Investment Bank, giving renewable companies a capital cost advantage over the fossil industry.
Mrs von Der Leyen said 44 of the EU’s biggest investors, marshalling €6 trillion, had requested tough legislation to set the targets in place – on the grounds that they can prosper handsomely from the net-zero regime once the price signals are clear.
***“Asset owners are top of the food chain so this is a very powerful signal,” said Christiana Figueres, the UN’s former climate chief. “They pull the whole cavalry in, going right into the fabric of the economy.”…
Resisters may find themselves isolated in a shrinking polluters’ bloc. Trade access will become conditional on good climate behaviour.

do as we say, not as we do:
22 Jan: Reuters: Priority status for EU fossil fuel projects raises green hackles
by Jakub Riha and Marine Strauss
European lawmakers on Wednesday approved the European Union’s list of priority energy projects that are eligible for up to 30 billion euros ($33.5 billion) in funding, ignoring objections over its inclusion of fossil fuel schemes…
Environment campaigners and Green politicians have raised concerns that the list’s inclusion of fossil fuel projects and gas infrastructure is incompatible with the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the EU’s own ambition to cut carbon emissions…
Lawmakers who won the vote in the Industry committee of the European Parliament on Wednesday say gas is an important energy source in the transition to cleaner energy because it is less carbon-intensive than coal.
“Gas is, so to speak, a bridging technology on our way to achieving our ambitious CO2 reduction goals towards 2030,” German lawmaker Christian Ehler said…

23 Jan: Reuters: Norway court to rule in Arctic oil drilling case
by Nerijus Adomaitis, Terje Solsvik
OSLO: An Oslo appeals court will on Thursday rule on a lawsuit that seeks to stop Norway’s plans for more oil exploration in the Arctic on the grounds that it violates people’s right to a healthy environment.
The court is expected to either confirm or dismiss a 2018 ruling by a lower court that said giving oil exploration licenses in the Arctic to Equinor and other oil firms in 2015-2016 was in line with Norway’s constitution.
The case, which was brought by Greenpeace and the Nature and Youth group, may still be appealed to Norway’s supreme court…
Oil and gas extraction has helped make Norway one of the wealthiest nations on earth, with the third-highest per-capita gross domestic product and a $1.1 trillion sovereign wealth fund stemming from petroleum income…
The government handed out 10 Arctic exploration permits in the contested 23rd licensing round, including three in the southeastern part of the Barents Sea, near Norway’s border with Russia…
But while environmental groups said more petroleum resources had already been discovered than could be exploited without breaching the Paris goals, the government argued that any decision to drill was for parliament to make, not the courts.

23 Jan: BusinessGreen: ‘We ask for fairness’: Von der Leyen warns countries to price carbon or face border tax
by Madeleine Cuff
But such a proposal is controversial, not least because it could breach World Trade Organisation rules if not carefully designed and could inflame trade tensions with the US and China. Major emitters like China are likely to be hardest hit by any carbon border adjustment, which is likely to be first applied to sectors such as steel…
The Commission President praised states like California for implementing comprehensive carbon pricing mechanisms, and said China has also taken “the first steps” towards implementing a carbon pricing system…
Europe is plotting a path to becoming net zero carbon by 2050, the most ambitious of any continent in the world. The European Green Deal sets out how it plans to achieve this target, by mobilising $1tr of investment to make Europe a frontrunner in clean technologies, low-carbon industries and green financing.

That’s the big one, no trading with the EU except on its demented terms. The EU chief is acting as if it will be business as usual; I’m agog for the accompanying histrionics when the awakening arrives and other nations no longer want to contribute to the rort.

23 Jan: ITV Report: Government risks undermining net zero push without public support, poll finds
People are not aware of the changes that will be needed to cut the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050, polling suggests…
More than four in five people (82%) say they back the commitment to cut greenhouse gas pollution to zero overall by mid century, polling for the organisation by Opinium suggests.
But only 38% are aware they will need to change the way their home is heated, with most houses in the UK needing to switch to low-carbon heating systems.
Less than half – 44% – of the 2,002 adults polled realise there will be a need to switch to electric cars, with the sale of new conventional petrol and diesel vehicles ending in 2040.
New technologies such as smart thermostats, electric car chargers and home battery storage will also become widespread, changing the way people use energy.
Most people who are aware they will have to make changes are happy to do so, but the majority say they would need advice or financial support, the survey suggests…
Key concerns for members of the public include the cost of energy, having help and support, the changes they will have to make to their home and where to get help if things go wrong…
Citizens Advice warns that without public understanding of why the changes are necessary, faith and trust will be undermined, which could make achieving net zero impossible…

How populism will heat up the climate fight
Financial Times – 7h ago by Philip Stephens
Politicians know what they have to do, but must beware the ‘gilets jaunes’.
A large swath of voters look at green policies through the same prism as Trump…
The question I have is whether the liberals leading the decarbonisation charge are ready to finance the big income transfers needed to make it politically sustainable…

23 Jan: UK Telegraph editorial: Our elites need a dose of reality on how to tackle global warming
The annual gathering of the world’s movers, shakers and opinion formers in Davos has this year been dominated by climate change. The Prince of Wales yesterday called on international leaders to “bring the planet back from the brink” as he also met the teenage activist Greta Thunberg.
She had clashed the previous day with Donald Trump, who alone among the political luminaries attending the World Economic Forum refuses to acknowledge the existence of global warming and does not accept the need to do anything about it. Ms Thunberg and her followers were, he said, false prophets of doom. He may or may not be right, but he is like Canute seeking to turn back the tide.
The anti-carbon forces are now unstoppable whether or not Mr Trump trusts the science. He could, in any case, be out of office by this time next year, whereupon America’s position is likely to change.
What is disappointing about Davos is that once again world leaders lined up to make apocalyptic predictions of imminent disaster without focusing on practical measures to bring about a low or zero-carbon future. The very people who will be making the business and investment decisions to meet the various environmental targets should stop the talking and concentrate on the realities of fulfilling this policy.
For instance, do any of them yet fully appreciate the political implications of eliminating coal, oil and gas from the energy mix within 30 years? We are not talking about the Extinction Rebellion cultists, who see economic growth as the enemy and would happily crash the Western capitalist system as a means of curbing emissions.
Politicians have to live in the real world and sell to their people what will be considerable changes in lifestyle and ask them to pay the costs of killing off carbon. Yet an attempt by the French government to increase fuel prices on environmental grounds created the gilets jaunes movement and six months of violent demonstrations.
Prince Charles was right to call on business leaders to help consumers make sustainable choices that are also affordable. But this will not be easy in wealthy countries let alone in the developing world. Over the past 20 years there have been several protests in this country against relatively modest duty increases and these were nothing to what is coming down the track. ***We need to be prepared.

a few of the comments:
It is embarrassing seeing all these supposedly intelligent individuals whooping and applauding an ignorant teenager who has had a bad dream and been given a script. If that is a representation of the best leaders on the planet we have a serious problem and it is not climate change.
The man made climate scam is thrust upon us by the MSM using the phrase “the scientists tell us” but without ever producing the evidence upon which it relies. There is plenty of evidence available to show that ‘project fear’ is just that. The ‘science of climatology’, so called, is based upon theoretical assumptions put into a computer model. There is no empirical formulae to advise us that the fear is rational.
My energy costs are already 40% higher than 2014 and it will get worse with the subsidies being paid to the green industry. Total nonsense.
I will tell you how you deal with global warming.
You ignore it and publish all the real data, not the doctored data used by the climate hoaxers.
You tell the truth about the pacific islands, Great Barrier Reef, record grain harvests, global greening, fewer cyclones, floods.
You mine low emission clean coal and allow the poverty stricken in the developing world the cheap reliable energy that we all benefitted from to escape poverty and needless poor health.
Utter rubbish. Its just weather.

Not just the rarefied attendees are barking crazy the Journalists are completely bonkers as well. This truly has become a thoroughly ignorant global-cult expression of, “a little knowledge is dangerous“. One giant global maddening-crowd of ignorant fools, frothing about an imaginary UN-Model™ ‘problem’, and nothing you could or should ever change.
The danger of governments and usurped ‘authority’ of extraordinarily pompous fools is on full display. Everyone chatters about how amazing the Emperor’s new cloths are! The stuff of fables and dystopian horror novels. And they actually think they’re world leaders! They’re first class circus-clowns on business jets, scoffing down a lobster while whining about how much carbon the little-people emanate. Oh, something must be done, or I can’t keep living off the cream, I need more scams, and I need them now!

23 Jan: WSJ: Democrats’ War on Fracking Will Cost Them in Battleground States. Ohio and Michigan have more than 400,000 shale workers, and Pennsylvania alone has 320,000.
by Stephen Moore
The Democrats’ war on fossil fuels was on full display at the debate in Los Angeles last month, where Joe Biden, the supposed moderate, was asked if he would rein in America’s shale oil and gas production even if it meant “thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands” would lose their jobs. He unhesitatingly responded “yes,” to cheers from the audience of college students and professors. He then recited the familiar liberal riff about how investment in wind and solar power will save the economy. (Soon afterward he told a New Hampshire audience that unemployed energy workers should “learn how to program.”)…
Curtailing U.S. oil and gas production would be economically disastrous. At least $1 trillion of U.S. economic output is related to the shale revolution, and more than 1.5 million Americans are employed in the industry. A PricewaterhouseCoopers study for the American Petroleum Institute found that at least four million American jobs are tied to the shale oil and gas revolution in areas like auto production, construction, petroleum engineering, pipe fitting, service stations, steel production and trucking.
Democrats’ quest to eliminate these jobs would hurt them in the swing states they’ll need to win to unseat President Trump…
