Hiding behind teenage girls again — so they can’t be ridiculed for saying silly things

By Jo Nova

The Pagan Witchdoctors send forth their girlie pawns

The science is so overwhelming they need 16 year old girls to evangelize for them. The girls are human shields sent to deliver the agitprop and protect it from scrutiny. If a man asks a girl a hard question they’re a misogynist, and if a women does, she’s rude. Grown-ups can’t even laugh at their transparent hypocrisy. That’s bullying you know, say the same people who call half the world “climate-deniers”.

Izzy Cook is the 16 year old version of Greta Thunberg in New Zealand. She unraveled spectacularly as a political leader and a climate star during a radio interview last September. Right after telling everyone that it wasn’t really necessary for people to travel to Fiji because of the climate crisis, Izzy Cook had to admit under questioning that she had just got back from a flight to Fiji. Interviewer Heather du Plessis-Allant laughed out loud at her vapor-thin dedication to the cause. As anyone would.

Apparently Izzy couldn’t really get out of the trip because her parents wanted her to go. Well, shucks.

But now some government Watchdog in New Zealand has declared it was an unfair joke and the broadcaster was reprimanded and has apologized. Apparently the Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) thinks radio interviewers must not deter “passionate young people” from making fantasy declarations and issuing vaporous wish lists live to air. Who knew —  thousands of listeners be damned — it’s the job of interviewers to train the next activists?

You, silly thing, thought you were listening to the radio to be informed…

It’s time to ask why New Zealand needs the BSA? Just another Big Government censor to tell journalists what they  can say and interfere with what New Zealanders are allowed to hear as well.

Judge for yourself: Who is exploiting the children here? The one who set her up to play in adult politics or the one who asks the questions her mother should have asked…

Teenage climate activist ‘unfairly ridiculed’ by radio interviewer

By Andrea Hamblin, The Telegraph

Broadcaster reprimanded by watchdog for questioning travel methods of Izzy Cook, New Zealand’s answer to Greta Thunberg

New Zealand’s Greta Thunberg, who flew to Fiji for a holiday, was unfairly “ridiculed” by a journalist who questioned the teenager’s travel, a watchdog has ruled.

Ms Cook replies it was “ironic” but says she could not “really get out of it because my parents wanted to go”.

Her mother made her go to Fiji, forgot to tell her not to put the holiday shots on social media, then lined up the interviews and follows-up with “righteous indignation”. Perhaps she should be doing the interviews herself?

Ms Cook’s mother Rose Cook said it was her idea for her daughter to take the family holiday. She had “listened in horror” as the journalist “appeared to be bullying” her daughter.

Du Plessis-Allan viewed the teenage activist’s social media profiles to “discredit her personally and derail the conversation about climate action”, Mrs Cook said.

“Izzy does what she does because she cares… I try to help by proofreading and preparing her for media interviews where I can,” Mrs Cook said.

New Zealand Media and Entertainment [NZME], the owner of Newstalk ZB has apologized to Ms Cook.

The BCA want to scare talk-back radio hosts into softball promotion of the BCA’s favourite silly ideas, but they’ve just revived and spread the train-wreck interview, so even more people will hear it. The interview was played all over the world last September. That can’t be good for Izzy. But it might work out for Newstalk ZB.

On twitter, the most common reply is “and they want to give 16 years olds the vote”.

New Zealanders who see biased, offensive, unbalanced and inaccurate reporting can complain to the BSA. New Zealanders who think the BSA is a parasitic Orwellian threat to free speech and decent radio can complain to the Minister of Broadcasting and Media — Willie Jackson.

Young alarmists need lots of safe spaces,
To prevent getting egg on their faces,
As they quickly unravel,
Caught out on air-travel,
To exotic and faraway places.

I know all too well what it’s like to be bullied, and this doesn’t even come close to making the bully-ometer needle twitch.

The bulls***-ometer though, that needle spun around so fast that I think it changed the earths orbit.

Someone forgot to tell her that air travel is only acceptable for Leftist Elites in their private jets.

And exotic holiday destinations are only for Elites or Leftist activists who identify as “scientists” to go on taxpayer-funded adventure holidays to exotic places like Antarctica or tropical islands to investigate “climate change”.

The Left are exploiting this child to perform adult activism.

Her activism does need to be challenged even though she is a child.

The challenge is fair. The blame lies entirely on the Left for their inappropriate exploitation of this child.

If they want the child not to be uncomfortably challenged or embarrassed, then don’t exploit her.

It’s really no different in principle to how criminals try to get children to commit crimes on their behalf so the criminal themself is not held responsible. Should the exploited children not be stopped for their crimes in thst case?

Interestingly, note how the Left both in Australia and the US and presumably elsewhere want to lower the voting age from 18 to 16 so children such as this can vote. I wonder why….?

It amazes me how resilient these young people are – or not! They just want to have fun and to be noticed and I’ll cry and my mascara will run. Their teachers may have taught them about the Hydrological cycle and the “Greenhouse”, but they are young and rather vacuous and it’s rather the vibe. By the way. whatever happened to that articulate German girl Seibt? who had some prominence years ago? At least she was on the money.

Izzy was not bullied. She was caught out and like any good leftist, she uses one of the get out of gaol free cards (racism, ***phobe, hat speech or bullying) to deflect from her hyprocisy.

I’ve talked to a number of young people about the climate and alas most are totally clueless, but some are very smart and definitely understand the data.
But the Greens loonies have been yapping for years about lowering the voting age to 16 and even blind Freddy knows why they relish this idea.
I’m also sure the mad Labor left would also like to lower the voting age as well and that would definitely include the Albo and Bowen loonies.

Fair shake of the sauce bottle folks.

This was not the fault of the young girl who was only parroting the garbage she has been fed. It is not the fault of the broadcaster who understandably cracked up at the hypocrisy of the girl’s response. It is not even the fault of the BBSA which was only doing what it is paid to do.

The fault lies fairly and squarely with the so-called “educators” who have spent a decade filling the girl’s head with nonsense propaganda thinly disguised as “science”. Plus the politicians who have allowed this use of schools as indoctrination centres to continue for nearly fifty years now.

It is exactly the same here in Oz.

What a classic gotcha moment. Years ago I once listened to “their” ABC radio and Steve Bracks (former Labor premier of Victoria) was being interviewed by Jon Faine. Bracks had recently been appointed as the Australian car manufacturing champion. The industry was having a rough time, declining sales of locally manufactured vehicles, increased imports, reduced tariffs etc etc. Who better to have as your “champion” than Bracks. Former premier of the state with probably the biggest centre of Australian car manufacturing ( Ford, Toyota ) and number 1 ticket holder of the Geelong Football Club. Geelong, where a Ford engine manufacturing plant was located. Brack’s job- talk up Australian made cars. During the interview Faine asked Bracks what type of car he drove personally. There was a long pause, a bit of mumbling and Bracks replied “I drive an efficient, environmentally friendly family vehicle”. It turns out Bracks was driving an imported Peugeot Diesel SUV. There is something with the left side of politics – they have no shame and they’re not good with irony.

This is just one example of billions of the enormous harm the Left have done with their decades of lies, misrepresentation, BS, and most importantly and most seriously, their dumbing down of the education system over the last five to six decades under Rudi Dutschke’s “der lange Marsch durch die Institutionen” started in 1967. This girl is one of the billions of feeble products of that “education” (indoctrination) system. No critical thinking skills or general knowledge whatsoever.

Would be fine except that Jackson is a far-left radical, primarily focused on enshrining preferential treatment of Maori in law (race based neo-aristocracy), but with the usual intersectional trimmings of pushing anything measure that increases govt power – and so happy to jump into bed with unhinged misanthropic watermelons

Puts the Hip in Hypocrisy all right. I would say we are in for a series of young Know-nothing zealots. Meanwhile people like Jo and the late David Bellamy are cancelled for wrong think. The world is devolving to a cargo cult. A certain momentum is present in the system, but when that is ground to a halt we have a “Mad Max” scenario. If the politicians promise cheap energy while blowing up our baseload generators, it is going to be quite grim. The Chinese seem very pragmatic- and it is likely they will allow us to educate our nascent overlords.

I’ve been working for some time to assemble something to help to counteract the ‘climate change’ cult propaganda, and the start of it is this ‘introduction to an introduction’: http://www.galileomovement.com.au/media/SaveThePlanet.pdf (A most appropriate name for it perhaps!)

There’s a link on page 21 to one of the optional ‘side bits’, and this one is about propagandising schoolchildren, probably by teachers who have themselves been propagandised!

I would be most grateful to receive feed-back from any of Joanne’s followers – criticisms/suggestions. Thanks!

Strangely enough, the JONOVA blog features here and there …..

I have an enduring interest in climate and weather because it has been a key factor throughout my engineering career. and many of my daily activities. A sprinkle of rain interrupted my plans briefly today.

At a young age in my working career, I had responsibility for securing the most productive iron ore export terminal in the world against the onslaught of intense cyclones. After the cyclone past, I had responsibility for ensuring the operation was free from serious damage and ready to receive ships. Everything we did at the operation had to consider the potential impact of cyclones, from wind loading, to storm surge to power outages, to keeping conveyor belts not acting like guitar strings and so forth. The designers responsible for developing the operation had to cater for these things based on limited climate data. I later became the manager of engineeru=ing teams designing similar operations that had to withstand severe weather conditions. I did well enough to end my career advising on engineering risk related to all manner of engineering risk including natural catastrophes.

I would never downplay the significance of climate or weather. Climate is a key consideration for any capital intensive project. Even building a house. Avoiding a flood plain is quite obvious. Every morning I look out the window to assess the value of the weather report from the evening before and am always prepared to alter my daily activities to suit the weather.

There are a few key points with regard climate that put it in perspective:
      1. Climate is always changing. Earth’s place in the universe grantees that every day will be different to the last and there are long term trends due to the changing orbit.
      2. Earth is predominantly a water planet and the presence of water on the surface and in the atmosphere provides powerful feedback mechanisms that keep the climate within a narrow range of possible extremes. Humans have learnt to survive in those extremes.
      3. There are two reasonably obvious examples of two of those feedback mechanisms. One is the formation of sea ice that limits heat loss from oceans so liquid water never gets below -1.7C under a thin veneer of sea ice. The other is the ocean surface temperature limit of 30C. It is physically impossible for open ocean water to sustain a temperature higher than 30C. Open ocean water at that temperature forms monsoonal cloud that prevents sunlight reaching the surface to increase the temperature beyond 30C. Any excursions above 30C are always fleeting.

So I would never downplay the impact of climate or weather events. Understanding climate in any location is the basis of good decision making. From driving a car through floodwaters, to playing football during a thunderstorm, to selecting a building site for a house, to parking/sheltering under a large tree during a storm. and so on. Climate is important.

Humans have very limited capacity to alter the weather or climate. Even acting collectively, it is a fool’s errand. The best approach is to make good decisions based on the available climatic data. And know that projections are not data. Evidence rules in these decisions. If a location flooded in the past 200 years there is every possibility it will flood next year. If a location had snow 30 years ago, there is every possibility it will have snow this year.

There was no point in any of my formal education that stressed the importance of climate to engineering decision making.

I heard a story yesterday about the need for counselling services in Lismore because children and adults are suffering from stress disorders following the floods. A lot thought they would not survive when the water was rising to roof level. So many people had got complacent about building houses on flood plains. Now they suffer the consequences of poor decisions.

Any educational effort on climate should focus around what has happened in the past and how you build resilience around that. Climate change is a relatively slow process and history remains the best guide to the future.

In my days consulting to insurance companies I would always ask the cost of building greater immunity. Most engineers involved at the design level were staggered by how little it cost to go from immunity to a 100 year ARI floor event to a 2000 year ARI. Some construction projects had such low margins to flooding that they were almost certain to suffer insurable flood damage during construction and yet it was trivial change in sequence or cost to avoid that.

        Thanks for your summation!

Should you check the link that I have provided you will see that this is the introduction to what follows; but the purpose is not only to (gently!) introduce people to ‘modern’ nuclear energy – both fission and fusion – but also so they may check the reality of weather history (and the sheer ignorance of using the word ‘unprecedented’ to describe a weather event now) and the financial/political manipulations behind climate alarmism. Also, to alert the gullible to the sheer stupidity/futility of trying to provide electricity with so-called ‘renewables’.

And it is the political manipulations behind it all that are perhaps the most concerning – especially as the target market are children! “Give me a child until he is 7, and I will give you the man!”

You can’t blame the poor girl.
She’s the product of an educational system that rewards them for regurgitating what they’ve been fed.
That’s all she knows, what’s been shoved down her throat.
She’s only showcasing what a good student she is and advocating for the morals she’s been indoctrinated in.
The enemy is us for allowing our children to be subjected to this form of child abuse.
The value of a secular education over a religious education used to be that children were not being indoctrinated.
Now secular schools are infested with the woke-left religion with which they’re colonising our kids’ thoughts, minds, morals, and their subconscious.
She’s only doing what she’s been taught.
We need to do our job better and do what she’s not afraid to do, spread her message.
The interviewer skirted a bit close to hysterical/crazy with too much Kamala Kackle, but a big reaction IS actually what was needed.

Jo, I’m glad you’ve posted this (was going to send a link but – again! – your award-winning reporting beat me to it).

I heard this interview ‘live’ as it was happening last year: I’m not one to ‘kackle’ though I did ‘hoot’ with glee as the young climate worrier shot herself in the foot. Fiji, or not Fiji, that is a conundrum, unable to be understood by one such as Dizzy Izzy and her even-more ditzy mother.

Wonder how ‘the child’ explains away the 4-day summer snow blizzard we had last week… weather?

BTW the new co2 Coalition study I linked to above uses a lot of the data that Dr Koonin used in his best selling book.
And Willis Eschenbach also used similar data sources in his earlier WUWT “where’s the Emergency” article.
Dr Koonin easily won the debate with Dr Dessler in AUG 2022 and Dessler also had to apologise to Dr Koonin for some of the loony abuse from inside his own supporter group.

The behaviour is unfortunately enabled by parents who are perfectly aware of the monetary reward involved. Thunberg’s parents, who were evidently gainfully employed in the legal profession before discovering that exploitation of their daughter’s psychosis was more lucrative, quit their jobs to become unemployed beatnik impresarios for their disturbed offspring’s public emotional breakdowns.

Greta Thunberg’s mother did actually quit her job. She was an opera singer and you can hear her on YouTube as the Queen of the Night hitting the high notes in the famous aria from Mozart’s Magic Flute (also her turnout for Sweden in the nauseating Eurovision Song Contest). Her daughter badgered her into giving up her career because of the amount of flying between opera houses and the resulting carbon debt.
