Australia has always had at best fair, but usually extremely bad Governments but the present federal Government, and most state Governments are by far the worst ever. Trekking in Nepal as I am now, it is amazing to see the number of older people in their late 60’s or 70’s doing so. My guide told me he even took an 82 year old to Everest Base Camp, about a 12 day walk. And these are not easy walks, they are typically one to two weeks or longer and require high levels of physical exertion 6 to 8 hours per day. Of course, if you need urgent medical care, it’s just not going to happen, but that applies to all age groups. In the more woke countries like Canada the Government would be urging people in those age groups to be euthanised so it’s good to see them here enjoying themselves.

As a keen hiker I wonder how they got insurance? When I reached the age of 75 I discovered that British companies that used to insure my trips quite happily would not only give me quotations with premiums that went through the roof compared with the previous year (despite the fact that I have only once in my life made an insurance claim and that was over 30 years ago) but their conditions had become much more onerous. One company that provided me with insurance the year before that covered me up to an altitude of 7,000 metres would only cover me for treks up to 2,500 metres. I suspect I could get insurance through some mountaineering societies but that would probably be extremely expensive.

The skies are darkening over Europe’s economy and politics, all thanks to their determination to wage war against Russia. The euro is plummeting to its lowest level in two years. Will the Euro stop at 85 cents in the year ahead? European leaders know that the Eurozone is crumbling, and instead of reform, they have chosen war and to use that as the excuse for the collapse of the Euro in the years ahead. In Putin’s address to the Russian people, he stated that
“Russian military facilities in the Bryansk and Kursk regions were attacked by Western missiles.” According to him, “the conflict in Ukraine has taken on global elements.”
The European press is either stupid or is cheering war on as aversion to the collapse of Europe from the nonsense of climate change & Wokeness that infected Europe as well. But the number one rule is never to admit a mistake – point the finger at someone else.
Any press that refers to Putin as a “dictator” instantly knows this is being fed by the NEOCON propaganda machine. They will not tell the truth that Putin was elected and the people supported him BECAUSE the alternative is a Russian NEOCON and a return to the USSR. Ursula von der Leyen is the dictator, for she did not stand for election and was part of the World Economic Forum voted in only by political heads of state that are all preaching the same agenda – WAR – WAR -WAR.

Europe has no desire whatsoever to go to war with Russia. A member of the European family was invaded by Putin despite their 1994 agreement whereby their sovereignty and borders were guaranteed and as a result Ukraine’s Nukes decomissioned.
The conflict in Ukraine took on “global” elements last year when Iran and North Korea supplied Putin with Drones and artillery and North Korea has now supplied 10000 troops actually now fighting in Ukraine.
Europe has put no troops into Ukraine and permission to use Western Weapons into Russia only given when it was clear that Putin was bringing in material from his allies.
As a Brit I have no liking for the EU or Von Der Leyen but the Russian Bear has been hungry for some time and they have been the belligerent party for decades as witness the cold war and their rule over Eastern Europe (still very vivid), Georgia, Crimea and recent events.. Incidentally Von der Leyen was elected by the European Parliament in as meaningful a way as Putin was.

My understanding is the Russians pulled out of Eastern Europe in the early 90’s following an agreement that NATO would not expand into the vacuum.
Cold War victory over Soviet communism.

Countries voluntarily decide to join Nato and have to be approved by existing members. Watching Ukraine unfold, If I were the leaders of Sweden and Finland I would want to join NATO. Russia did not voluntarily “pull out” . Their economy collapsed, troops didn’t get paid and their ability to threaten those countries under them disappeared.
In the early 1990’s Russia guaranteed Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence and amongst others the UK and US were party to the agreement and have an international treaty obligation to maintain this independence. As a result of this, Ukraine ceased to be a nuclear power. If it were still such a power Russia would not have invaded. So it was Russia that broke the treaty.
Surely we have learnt not to appease aggressors? History from the Danegeld to Hitl*r surely tells us that. Look at a Map. Russia has enabled nuclear capable missiles in Kaliningrad. That vulnerable corridor is being reinforced as Poland and the Baltic States feel threatened.
If you remember just days before the invasion-planned for 18 months- Putin insisted he had no intention of invading.

The Maidan revolution occurred because the then leader reversed a democratic decision to join the Eu and instead tilted towards Russia. Russia had amassed sufficient troops for an invasion in 2014 very soon after those events which were in position before the revolution took place. They don’t just turn up in a few minutes. it takes 18 months of planning as we saw in Ukraine itself.
Putin rules by fear. Who on earth would dare oppose him? Those that do end up in Gulags or fall over balconies as we saw with the opposition leader who returned to Russia and was convicted on nonsensical charges and died a few months ago. I have no love for the EU but their President isn’t elected through fear and intimidation.

Are you seriously saying these North Korean troops are imaginary? They were sent as part of a mutual assistance treaty signed in October and acknowledged as such by Putin at the end of that month..
Ukraine troops have undoubtedly been trained in the West (some near us) they were shown how to use hi tech weapons. There are no remotely significant number of Nato troops in Ukraine defacto or otherwise. Putin would have highlighted them if they had been defacto troops but has only managed to capture or kill a few foreign mercenaries.

I’m with tonyb on this. After the breakup of the Soviet Union, deals were done between Russia and Ukraine which delivered Soviet assets, such as a navy, to Russia. They also formally agreed borders and non-aggression. Vladimir Putin’s Russia reneged on those agreements when it invaded Ukraine.

Ukraine has 3 fulltime Professional soccer leagues, comprised of 54 teams/clubs. The 2024/25 season is well underway with 12-14 rounds played.
The Ukraine National Soccer Team is involved in the UEFA Nations League 2024/25 season. Ukraine plays its Home Games at the Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kyiv.
In 2024 Ukraine continues to be one of the worlds leading producers and exporters of grain products.
There are now more bars and restaurants in Kyiv than before the conflict began…

The conflict in Ukraine is far from straightforward. The communities east of the Dneiper River are Russian speakers and Russia has claimed that they not only have historically been part of Russia, but that the population largely wants to be part of Russia.
I have always believed that the United Nations should have supervised elections on the question. Many years ago Australia was enlisted by the UN to supervise fair elections in Cambodia and the UN successfully intervened when Yugoslavia descended into division after the death of Tito.

Fair comment. But the elections needed to be held before Russian forces moved in and “insisted” the inhabitants voted correctly. We have a number of refugees round here who were intimidated into voting to join Russia.

John Mearsheimer did a youtube which included a map of Ukraine and voters choice (for I think the 2010 election). Very interesting as those voting for the Russian-leading (and elected) candidate showed a majority in the east of Ukraine and a heavy majority in Crimea, but also in regions to the west (where various bits had been donated by Stalin after WW2).
Mearsheimer pointed out that the current policies by the West would result in war.

Thanks for your sober words, Tony. The case can not be more clear – a mad monster is hellbent on reversing the history and subduing half of Europe to his personal rule. He already rules over a quarter of Earth land but his bloodlust is stronger than his love of his own children. What was the need for killing hundreds of thousands people when he already had them in his fist culturally and economically? My family, all my neighbours spoke Russian and, if asked before the war, might have preferred Russian passports. Not anymore.
Why would otherwise clever and educated people here listen to ritters and mearsheimers when today with minimum effort you can hear what Putin says himself?
By the way, some of it is so factually wrong I wonder if he attended the same state school which I and other millions went through?

40000 civilians have been injured, some 12000 killed and another 10000 have life changing industries. Bombing has often been indiscriminate including schools hospitals and shopping centres.. Some 100 ,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed.
Putin kills dissenters which is why we see so few of them.
Putin has said he wants to recreate the empire and has clear designs on Poland and the Baltic states as well as Ukraine.
He needs to be stopped. Why so many here like to red thumb any condemnation of him I do not know.

They just do what they are told to by America. Straight after WW2 Britain and America started planning on how to destroy Russia, the only other power in the world. Luckily Capitalism out-performs Communism every time, but even when the USSR broke up the West couldn’t stop themselves from trying to break Russia.
We will see if Trump is still alive when it is time to take power, and how effective he is at breaking up the military/intelligence complex. That will be the only chance for world peace. Russia doesn’t have 800 military bases all over the world and troops stationed in the UK and Australia. Britain and Australia will find out what the troops are really for the moment they go against America.
Ukraine has never been more than a weapon to deploy against Russia and a money-laundering scheme for the Bidens.

Not living in the US and being basically ignorant of the personnel details, we can only hope what you say has some truth to it and is not just wishful thinking, as so much has been and still is.
US Attorney General is a really critical position as we have seen during Donald J’s first term. In my experience, a position of such power just cannot be filled with full trust in the appointee. The DoJ, the FBI and the CIA will find a zillion ways to destroy any transparency.
As a corollary, I doubt Trump’s nominations will all be appointed smoothly, if any are. Too many wanna-be’s, too many vengeful characters, too many hidden money pathways. There was an explanation I read recently about Presidential appointments through some “Recess mechanism” (apparently held out as a way to avoid the Medusa). That explanation ran to 4 or so pages of absolute gobbledegook … not a hope.
Of course this viewpoint is depressing, but that is because of the relationship of human characteristics to powerlust. “I want to make a difference”, so the spiel goes, but never are we told the details of the desired difference.

I find myself having to point this out almost every day recently. Our governments and media are, in my opinion, deliberately hiding or minimising a serious, continuing problem for western nations. They do this through the use of the term ‘net migration’.
Today, we are expected to celebrate Sweden’s efforts to control immigration, because they have announced their ‘net migration’ is currently down to zero.
But beware the term ‘net migration’, which can be used to hide a serious change in demographics. Put simply, it is the total number of immigrants arriving, minus the number of emigrants leaving. In Sweden’s case, at this time, they cancel out. However, where is the analysis of exactly WHO is entering and WHO is leaving? Zero net migration could mean that twenty thousand native, Christian, highly educated and economically mobile Swedes left, while twenty thousand Muslims from Africa and the Middle East arrived, with no money, no education and only low level skills. The ‘net’ effect of this on Swedish society could be catastrophic.

Here is the latest video from Dr John Campbell talking about a peer reviewed paper of three case reports of people with advanced cancers using the veterinary anti-parastitic drug (also used in humans under a different name) Fenbenzadole and apparently being cured.
Because the drug is cheap, apparently effective and presumably out of patent (or nearly so) there is little to no chance of it being approved in the Left/Big Pharma coalition countries like Australia but I think there is a good chance it will be approved for further investigation under TRUMP/RFK.

I had thought to reflect on the power of the US Constitution still today, some 235 years after its ratification..
Specifically, I was thinking of the First Amendment after Trump has set about to uphold its element of free speech so completely.
Trump speaks freely. He offers absolutes where there is sometimes a degree of uncertainty. In my view, that is good leadership. For example, can he stop the Ukraine war in 24 hours. Maybe not but look at how the globalists are trying to escalate the war before Trump gets into office so it reduces his chance of sorting it in 24 hours.
The UN treaty on human rights does cover freedom and expression:
Australia is party to this treaty so anyone banning an individual from a platform is in breach of a fundamental human right.
A few of us here could probably build a case against renew economy, and many LSM platforms.
