    https://www.fresheconomicthinking.com/p/fet-50-mark-diesendorf-on-why-a-renewables

A few weeks back, I had engineer Ben Beattie on the podcast to explain some of the unappreciated costs of transitioning to a renewable electricity grid.

Before this, Aidan Morrison had explained how many of the costs required to deal with variation in when and where energy is produced from wind and solar were excluded from the (in)famous GenCost report from the CSIRO.

Today, Professor Mark Diesendorf, who has studied the electricity grid and energy markets for many decades, provides the counterargument to these claims and makes the case that renewables will be cheaper in the coming decade.

The Trump administration is moving so fast the Cimate Scam has been put in last place. Trump just slammed the bags shut. Simple. And watch it reverberate through the entire chain of dependency, from energy to medicine to aid to defence to the IPCC.

How many people in the US and throughout the world have been funded secretly, like the Wuhan Institute of Virology? A quick settlement in Ukraine will be very embarrassing for NATO and Germany, the UK and France. And GAZA is still settling, despite the stage drama by HAMAS and Iran. Trump is shipping the weapons Biden (or likely Blinken) refused to ship. GAZA is uninhabitable, but the Arab states may have to rebuild it or accept GAZA terrorists as immigrants. Not much choice there.

And the South African Government is exposed after their extraordinary ICC attack on Israel as being morally bankrupt legalizing the theft of farms without compensation and the collapse of the rule of law. Legislated murder and robbery, as in Zimbabwe and Uganda, the return of tribalism.

How long before Australia has the embarassment of Kevin Rudd’s and Mr Wong’s credentials being refused? Trump has already refused both potential UK ambassadors Milliband and Mandelson. But Starmer is doubling down on the Ukraine war, offering to send British soldiers to a war zone to keep the peace without a peace deal. He must have a list of things to do to make himself unpopular.

It’s certainly been an interesting three weeks in world politics. And only just starting as the sneering politicians of Germany, France and the UK convene to deal with Donald Trump. They are no longer laughing in his face. He was right about their exposure to Russian extortion. And JD Vance called them out and dared to meet with the AfD.

And routinely, every conservative politician is compared to Hitler as if Hitler was ‘extreme right’ when he was a socialist, head of the German workers party. Globalists are on the run. And the first out the door are the bankers, followed by the billionaires.

America first is doing a great impression of a waking Gulliver in Lilliput. And as sole defender of the free world, not before time.

Elon Musk’s DOGE Team Uncovers Over 25 Million People Ages 100+ in Social Security Database, Some Older Than the Constitution: “There are a Lot of Vampires Collecting Social Security”

Elon Musk’s DOGE team has unearthed jaw-dropping irregularity from the U.S. Social Security database.

The numbers are truly mind-boggling: over 25 million Americans registered aged 100 and older, with some purportedly older than the U.S. Constitution itself.

Late Sunday night, Musk tweeted a staggering claim accompanied by a table of ages, suggesting that the Social Security Administration might be paying out benefits to “vampires.”

“According to the Social Security database, these are the numbers of people in each age bucket with the ‘death’ field set to FALSE. Maybe Twilight is real, and there are a lot of vampires collecting Social Security,” Musk quipped.

      The table Musk provided shows:

      Age 0-9: 38,825,456
      Age 10-19: 44,326,480
      Age 20-29: 47,995,478
      Age 30-39: 52,106,915
      Age 40-49: 47,626,581
      Age 50-59: 45,740,805
      Age 60-69: 46,381,281

      Age 80-89: 15,165,127
      Age 90-99: 6,054,154
      Age 100-109: 4,734,407
      Age 110-119: 3,627,007
      Age 120-129: 3,472,849

      Age 170-179: 6,087
      Age 180-189: 695
      Age 190-199: 448

It is more … that there are those with still active Social Security Numbers, because their ‘death fields’ in the database are set to ‘FALSE’.

        More on that here –

“I added up the numbers for our cherished, specially abled readers in Portland. Based on Elon’s chart, the total count of active SSNs is 398 million. That means there are +64 million more active SSNs than the entire population of the United States (334 million).

Let me say it again: sixty-four million zombies. Needless to say, it’s totally impossible, at least under our current scientific understanding of human mortality. The diligent, hardworking, apolitical employees in the federal government appear to have diligently preserved a shadow army of dead or nonexistent “Americans” on the books — zombies — with tens of millions of them potentially still receiving benefits, filing tax returns, and “voting” Democrat.”

The implications for this are also that any population-wide / demographic statistics, eg health stats – should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Like the whole ‘blue zones’ of people living longer because of diets turned out to be rubbish, just frauds in social security.

The social security database should be the most heavily audited as money goes out from it – other databases should be expected to be in much worse state!

The UK has a lot of problems constructing new high speed rail as its a small country with many inconvenient things-such as towns-in the way. Any time savings are very small in our small country and building high speed rather than just very fast doubles the cost and causes more engineering problems.

Presumably that is not the case in Oz.

Is this route popular and worth the expenses?

It’s the existing railway line that can’t take a fast train. It has too many wiggles going up the hill from Picton to Mittagong. A new line via Badgery’s Creek airport would be a good idea. Plus an ability to actually build it.

It’s currently less time on the road Sydney-Melbourne than it is on the train.

I used to think that. Then I discovered that there are no mountains to cross on the southern half of the route.

I would still oppose a “300 km/h VFT”. An old farmer’s engineering intuition says that the last 50 km/h might cost more tham half the project, for both construction and maintenance.

Set your sights on 200 km/h

If the Government asks them to look for “sacred sites” you can be certain they will be found, especially if something valuable is or is proposed to be located there such as mineral deposits, pipelines, freeways, railways, power stations (real ones, not windmills or panels) etc..

Sometimes the significance of the alleged sacred sites is not even known or obvious as they are invisible such as happened in the Arapiles where only certain people could see the alleged rock paintings and rock climbing at the famous rock climbing area was banned.

      https://www.skynews.com.au/australia-news/politics/victorian-government-accused-of-economic-vandalism-over-mount-arapiles-rock-climbing-bans-to-protect-indigenous-heritage/news-story/2c24901617cb3178a85f29468a860cc5?amp=&nk=3f641fed5f4457a333804855e1d18786-1739820436

The 3AW host also questioned the justification for the rock climbing bans and pointed to reports that much of the rock art at Mount Arapiles cannot be seen with the naked eye.

Australia doesn’t have the population density to justify high speed rail. You need too much infrastructure, like hundreds or thousands of kilometres of track as opposed to flying where you just need an airport at either end.

High speed rail in Australia is mostly a Green/Left or Elite/Left subsidy harvester fantasy, who in any case would continue to fly commercially or on private jet.

If some routes such as Melbourne to Sydney could run at a reasonable speed, that would be satisfactory. This can be done without dedicated high speed rail. For example, the Melbourne Sydney route has an average speed of around 80kph which is much slower than driving or even a bus.

Standard rail, if straight and level, can support speeds of 200-300 kph and that would be enough. With stops, if a train could average 160kph between Sydney and Melbourne, a rail distance 953km, at an average of 160kph such a trip would take about six hours which would be acceptable to many people if it was much cheaper than flying (which it may or may not be).

In any case, like any major (potentially useful) project in Australia, they’ve been talking about it for decades and it will likely never happen, and if it does it will be hugely expensive, the Left will oppose it and if it does eventually happen it will run at a loss.

Australia could benefit from better intercity rail, but not just for passengers. A solid rail system would really help with freight movement, reducing the number of trucks on our already inadequate highways.

” A solid rail system would really help with freight movement, reducing the number of trucks on our already inadequate highways.”

..and remember the vast amount of stuff that was stolen when the railways moved everything. The pub was a bigger market than any chain store. You would need trains to be as efficient as trucking companies in trace and track, and anti-theft systems.

The Fate of Europe is Doomed –

“Vance’s speech at the Munich Security Conference called Europe out for what it is. It is now out in the open that they rigged the Romanian elections and dare to claim they will do the same if the AfD wins. What is taking place from sources in Germany is that the AfD is now seen as not some conspiracy theory but legitimate after Vance’s speech. Looking closely, you will see that Vance did not receive any respect. You will see the military leaders there, and nobody applauded. They want war. My sources in Germany say that commentators are already saying that F the USA and Europe now have to send in troops to Ukraine, and other sources are stating that there is serious consideration of forming a European army for war with Russia. Zelensky is on the edge of his dream to invade and destroy every Russian on the face of the earth. Our May 15th target may involve this breach with the USA, and Europe is already saying they will not follow whatever Trump does.

My sources in Europe are saying that they now MUST send an army into Ukraine and call them “Peace Keepers,” but this will be the start of World War III. Zelensky is outright saying that the USA has no business interfering in European affairs.

Let’s be honest here—the Minsk 2 Accords were negotiated by Germany and France back in 2015. Merkel publicly stated that they NEVER intended to honor those agreements. Europe has been discredited and has lost any authority to sit at any table to deal with Russia. Why should they be trusted after what they pulled off to start this war? Only Trump has the authority to negotiate. Zelensky is a worthless puppet who does NOT represent the Ukrainian people and should be dragged out of his office as a traitor to his own people and put on trial as a war criminal.”

The war in the Donbas has been raging for 20 years, not ten. And it is a war waged by Kiev on the native Russian speakers in the West and Crimea who want to defect. MAS flight 17 was shot down in 2014.

As for ‘invading’ Crimea the same year, everyone there was Russian. The army posts just changed hands. Soldiers swapped sides. No invasion was necessary.

Crimea has always been the heart of modern Russia, as the UK and France know well after the Crimean war Britain and France waged on Russia from St. Petersburg to Sebastopol in 1855. There was no excuse for the war, a ‘punitive’ war. Officially it was over ownership of the keys to Jerusalem. That was the official excuse.

But the Crimean war was about breaking up the Russia empire. And the Turks were our allies. In 1918 it was the Turks turn as the UK partnered with Greece to break up the Ottoman empire, which they did in 1922. And carved it up, which created the French and British defined countries and eliminated real countries like Kurdistan. They created Palestine and Jordan and Trans Jordan, now a Hashemite kingdom, the preferred and successful medieval form of government in the Middle East. But it’s all just lines on maps in regions which have been in flux for 13,000 years.

So once again, as in Sarajevo, it is the West siding with anyone who wants to secede from Russia and attacking anyone who wants to secede from Europe. And there is always the story of saving someone, but it remains eternally anti Russia, an attempt to destroy the biggest country on earth. Now playing directly into the hands of the CCCP who want the same thing.

And the pretend keys to Jerusalem was a real issue for both sides. Amazing with today’s athiest governments.

Armstrong economics are not a reliable source of information. The independence of Ukraine was guaranteed by the US UK and Russia back in 1992. In return Ukraine agreed to remove its nuclear weapons. This original invasion 3 years ago was caused when the US withdrew abruptly from Afghanistan leaving its allies in the lurch.

This emboldened every tin pot dictator including Putin, China North Korea and Iran.

Starmer has said we need to send troops into Ukraine AFTER a peace agreement has been devised. No one is suggesting they go in whilst war is still raging.

“Why should they be trusted after what they pulled off to start this war?” What on earth does this mean? Putin has a reputation for nibbling bits of territory and according to his own speeches is eyeing the Baltic states. He wants to recreate the old empire.

I find it hard to understand why communists hate Jewish people. Messrs. Albanese, Rudd, Wong, Bandt. Now even black South Africa. I can only think it is distraction politics. To create economic havoc and blame it on a single ethnic group.

As for the diversion of ‘Islamaphobia’, it is equally improbable to look at politicians hoping to capitalise on the Islamic vote in a modern world.

This happened in WWII when even the Japanese were anti semitic, despite their completely alien religion, traditions, background. And as I have written, Islamaphobia is the whole point of terrorism, random lethal and brutal attacks on non combatants behind the lines. That our leading politicians should use it every day to get votes is a new low in Australian politics.

The Australian government has been captured. All of the leading politicians are openly communist acolytes, especially Chinese communists. As with Tim Walz who ran for US Vice President. Are they all on the CCCP payroll, like Daniel Andrews in Victoria?

For the same reasons that have been common for many, many thousands of years, now worldwide. Envy, with the concomitant annoyance at the example Jewish entrepreneurs set for individual aspirations. Similarly with Asian entrepreneurs – they must be controlled, you see.

Spiteful envy is one of the most corrupted of hidden attitudes – and one of the most common. Most people seem to grasp that it is a shameful feeling so they hide it under rationalisations. But it is easily manipulated by those of a political bent.

    Mark Steyn on Europe –

“I confess it’s a wee bit demoralising to find JD Vance has stunned Europe with a speech that contains nothing that would be remotely surprising to any reader of this website for the last quarter-century. Of course, he’s the Vice President of the United States and I’m a “niche Canadian”. And in fairness JD was still in high school back when I started boring on about this stuff.

Nevertheless, the German defence minister Herr Großer von Wichser spoke for the entire European establishment when he magisterially pronounced Mr Vance’s remarks “not acceptable”. Germany, France and the rest of Western Europe are dying before our eyes, but it remains “not acceptable” to notice it.

For one thing, Vance was speaking at the MSC. The Mark Steyn Club? Ah, sadly not. This was supposed to be the “Munich Security Conference”, which is the western world’s most prestigious beano on “international security”, where heads of government and the like are supposed to identify “emerging global threats” so that Bill Kristol and David Milliband can get their updated funding applications in to USAid. Yet, instead of volunteering the next bunch of illiterate goatherds who’ll get to spend twenty years kicking Nato’s butt, the Vice President argued that the greatest threat to Europe came from Europe’s leaders – and thereby totally ruined the weekend for everybody else.”

    FERC must restore reliability.

A simple way to save the grid from more wind and solar
    By David Wojick
    https://www.cfact.org/2025/02/17/a-simple-way-to-save-the-grid-from-more-wind-and-solar/

Key excerpts: “The President says he would like to stop new wind power development from wrecking America’s electric power grid. There is a simple and sensible way to do this that stops solar as well. Simply ban hooking these destructively intermittent generators into the grid.

The States have the authority to build power generators but approving their connection to the American grid is a federal function. The lead agency is the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in the Energy Department. This authority is delegated to the Regional Transmission Operators (RTOs) subject to FERC oversight.

The present situation is absurd as the RTOs have queues of connection requests from renewables developers that in total megawatts exceed their peak demand. The unpredictable intermittency of generation from these renewables threatens to wreck the grid.

FERC has the authority and the responsibility to ban the connection of intermittent generation. They just approved a proposal from a regional transmission operator to prioritize approving the connection of dispatchable generators ahead of intermittent ones. It is a simple step for FERC to go from prioritizing dispatchable generation to mandating it by not approving the connection of destructive intermittent generators.

FERC’s mission statement is clear: “FERC ensures reliable, safe, secure & economically efficient energy for consumers at a reasonable cost.”

There are two very good reasons for FERC to do ban new intermittency connections — reliability and cost. Intermittency destabilizes the grid and costs a fortune. In theory storage could fix this but it is impossibly expensive. There is no feasible cure for intermittency.”

“Setting Fire to the Deep State”

“A new book by two Ivy League professors, offering a “scholarly” defense of the administrative state, provides just such an opportunity — not despite, but because of, its complete lack of academic merit. The book is exactly as predictable, stale, and superficial as one might expect; and under normal circumstances would deserve little notice. But if “the old order of things” is indeed passing away, then this volume and others like it might be reconsidered in a new light. What makes a book like this newly interesting is the glimpse it offers into how elites of that old order understood themselves. It reveals how the economic corruption of the progressive administrative state, however bad that may be, is dwarfed by its moral and intellectual corruption.”

    ” Grab Your Mallet”

“I’ve been trying to explain how I feel with what’s happening in the country, and with what Doge is doing…

Beyond becoming addicted to the Doge site… which is sad and pathetic, but then you guys knew that. I mean, that I’m at severe risk of becoming addicted.

But there is a feeling behind all this, and I finally pinned it. It’s the feeling when the wall came down in Berlin.

I don’t think I can fully explain how amazing, wonderful, shocking and maybe a little scary it was to those of you born and raised after the fall of the wall. or even to those of you who were in elementary school at the end of the cold war.

For me, for my generation, particularly those of us who grew up in Europe (which includes any number of you guys who grew up in military bases) there was the overwhelming certainty at any moment the whole thing would go hot, and we’d have maybe a second to kiss our asses goodbye before being vaporized.”

Rabies Recipes: How sane doctors were defeated by the insane scientists 140 years ago.
Viruses and vaccines are the same thing – both are manufactured poison pushed under false theories and faked statistics by the insane scientists with a God complex.

True cases of rabies disease are vanishingly rare. Rabies can ONLY be diagnosed post-mortem, and ONLY by fraudulent never validated non-diagnostic lab testing methods where decaying brain cells are mixed with numerous cytotoxic chemicals, no controls are used, and causation claimed from microscopy images of the resultant products of cell death. CDC claims fewer than 10 human cases a year, in a population of 330M, and of course, has never provided any details nor independent verification of this claim. Do you trust CDC? I don’t. They are proven liars. As of recent statistics, over 70% of Americans don’t trust CDC either

John. Rabies kills about 60,000 people every year.

        https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7159301/

Cases of rabies are not rare in the third world.

Quarantine keeps some countries free of rabies: “Rabies-free countries are: American Samoa, Antigua, Aruba, Australia, Barbados, Belgium, Bermuda, England, Fiji, French Polynesia (Tahiti), Guam, Hawaii, Ireland, Jamaica, Japan, Malta, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Saint Lucia, Scotland, Singapore, Sweden, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Turks and Caicos Islands, United Kingdom, Vatican.” (Just showing quarantine can work.)

There are many diagnostic tests for rabies: See https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10954107/

“FAT, fluorescent antibody technique; dRIT, direct rapid immunohistochemical test; RIDT, rapid immunochromatographic diagnostic test; RFFIT, rapid fluorescent focus inhibition test; FAVN, fluorescent antibody virus neutralization test; ELISA, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay; CSF, cerebrospinal fluid; RVNA: rabies virus-neutralizing antibodies; RT-PCR, reverse transcriptase–polymerase chain reaction; RTCIT, rabies tissue culture infection test; MIT, mouse inoculation test; H and E: Haematoxylin and Eosin”

        Sigh.

CAN AN ELECTRIC AIRLINER BE FEASIBLE?
With electric cars (EVs) now on the road, the question of electric air travel is raised occasionally.
Let’s look at what would be required to make the equivalent of the Airbus A380:
    • The maximum take-off weight for the A380 is 569 tonnes.
    • The maximum fuel load is 320,000 litres (jet-fuel) which weighs 278 tonnes.
    • The specific energy of jet-fuel is 11.9 kWh/kg.
    • The specific energy of Lithium-ion battery is 0.243 kWh/kg.
    • That’s a specific energy ratio of 49:1
    • So, to build a battery with the same energy as the jet-fuel it would weigh 49 times 278 tonnes.
    • That makes it 13,622 tonnes of battery.
    • But the maximum take-off weight for the A380 is only 569 tonnes.
    • The structure of the aircraft would not survive such a load even just standing on the tarmac.
Until a battery technology is developed to match the energy density of jet-fuel there is no chance of an electric airliner.
Despite the enthusiasm of many activists, the prospect of an electric airliner is nonsense.

COVID-19 mRNA Injections Linked to Serious Kidney Injury

..among 120.7 million reports from the WHO’s global database on drug side effects, three main kidney issues were found to be significantly associated with COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, with higher-than-expected reporting odds ratios (RORs):

Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) – Sudden decline in kidney function.

ROR: 2.38 → Individuals who received COVID-19 mRNA vaccines were 2.38 times more likely to report AKI compared to the general drug database.

Glomerulonephritis (GN) – Inflammation of kidney filters.

ROR: 13.41 → The strongest association was found for GN, with cases being 13.41 times more frequently reported after COVID-19 mRNA vaccination, indicating a significant safety signal.

Tubulointerstitial Nephritis (TIN) – Inflammation of kidney tissue.

ROR: 2.43 → The likelihood of developing TIN was 2.43 times higher in recipients of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines.

These conditions spiked significantly after 2020, coinciding with the global rollout of COVID-19 mRNA vaccination campaigns.”

On this day in 1930, Pluto was first discovered by Humans. Of course, it had been there for a long, long time.

Pluto, once believed to be the ninth planet, is discovered at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona, by astronomer Clyde W. Tombaugh.

The existence of an unknown ninth planet was first proposed by Percival Lowell, who theorized that wobbles in the orbits of Uranus and Neptune were caused by the gravitational pull of an unknown planetary body. Lowell calculated the approximate location of the hypothesized ninth planet and searched for more than a decade without success.

However, in 1929, using the calculations of Lowell and W.H. Pickering as a guide, the search for Pluto was resumed at the Lowell Observatory in Arizona. On February 18, 1930, Tombaugh discovered the tiny, distant planet by use of a new astronomic technique of photographic plates combined with a blink microscope. His finding was confirmed by several other astronomers, and on March 13, 1930—the anniversary of Lowell’s birth and of William Herschel’s discovery of Uranus—the discovery of Pluto was publicly announced.

I was just reading that the BOM has changed the name of the next cyclone (should it form of course). It’s being changed from Anthony to Albert. We can’t go having a potentially destructive tropical cyclone being named after one of the worst Australian Prime Ministers now can we, can’t be having it match reality now can we?

“Former Soviet Dissident Warns For EU Dictatorship” A title from article written in 2006.

Vladimir Bukovksy, the 63-year old former Soviet dissident, fears that the European Union is on its way to becoming another Soviet Union. In a speech he delivered in Brussels last week Mr Bukovsky called the EU a “monster” that must be destroyed, the sooner the better, before it develops into a fullfledged totalitarian state.

The ultimate purpose of the Soviet Union was to create a new historic entity, the Soviet people, all around the globe. The same is true in the EU today. They are trying to create a new people. They call this people “Europeans”, whatever that means.

    Rest in the article here

Finally, if my memory serves me right, they laughed at him during his speech.

“The Great Texas Blackout Revisited: Market Failure Not”

“It was not so much the story of freak weather triggering a market failure writ large. It was a classic application of the political economy of government intervention: the seen and the unseen, expert/regulatory failure, and unintended consequences.

Don Lavoie, a preeminent thinker in the field of market-versus-government planning, once warned:

If the guiding agency is less knowledgeable than the system it is trying to guide—and even worse, if its actions necessarily result in further undesired consequences in the working of that system—then what is going on is not planning at all but, rather, blind interference by some agents with the plans of others.” [1]

    (My bold)

    Planned chaos, in other words.

The failure of governmental electricity in Texas humbled many electricity design experts (including technocrat Lynne Kiesling); the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT); the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT); and the Texas Legislature. Other players at a distance were the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), North American Electric Reliability Corporation [né Council] (NERC); and National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC).”

“Here is the thing, we need to define failure.

Blackout, rolling blackouts metering to control power to the customer are all failures.

These are not an acceptable compromise. We all know there are things out of our control that can cause loss of power, solar activity, weather even accidents. The problem we are dealing with and the biggest failure in my view is the government accepting even mandating forms of energy production that are unreliable, not constant, very expensive, disrupt the grid are not recyclable and are not long lived. The government involvement is an absolute failure. The only fix is to get them out of the mix to the greatest extent possible and undo all the devastation they have caused.”
