Enjoy the global warming while you are there Annie. Currently we have another minor flood warning, sheep weather alert, snow predicted to 1300 metres and potential for local frosts, thunderstorms and hail. Padocks are saturated, capeweed is going mad and the big lake up the road is hovering around the 99%. If the sun ever shines it will be the best season in a decade.

It’s up to mid 30sC here and rather humid.
It sounds like roads are flooded nearby. With Eildon so full it is worrying for graziers along the river.
        The capeweed is a nightmare.

Our own little precious sold the communications system down the drain and pocketed the cash to shore up their unfunded super in what they called and I am not joking, ‘The Future Fund’.

Certainly wasn’t the future of small business as we have wasted a large portion of our productive capacity sitting on a call centre queue trying to sort out the latest upgrade.

if the PM were to end renewables subsidies millions of union members super would disappear, thats why Morrison changed his tune from carrying coal into parliament to pretending to support renewables. he would have a riot if the unions lost their super funds.

The UK intends to build the worlds first nuclear fusion plant

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2022/10/05/beacon-of-bountiful-green-energy-uk-to-build-first-nuclear-fusion-plant/

Hmmm. I remember visiting the research centre for fusion in the south of England 50 years ago. They are still researching and fusion seems to be as far away as ever. The site? On one of the last remaining coal fired power stations we have left due to close early next year. You couldn’t make it up

A commercial fusion reactor has always been 50 years away, although, admittedly it does seem closer than that now, maybe only 30 years.

In any case, you watch the Left oppose the building of any commercial fusion reactor.

      Why?

Because the policies of supposed anthropogenic global warming are not about a harmless trace gas, but starving non-Elites of energy for the purpose of power and control over them. It is a reversion to pre-Enlightenment and pre-Industrial Revolution times.

E.g. the Left remain strongly opposed to fission reactors, despite them being the safest of all means of power production, and safer than unreliable energy production in terms of lives lost.

Nuclear energy is to renewables what Ivermectin is to mRNA vaccines – a kryptonite alternative which threatens to render both obsolete. As such, they must be banned, not because they are not viable or effective, but because they remove the justification for renewables and vaccines.

On the basis that, as we can see with Putins efforts this week, you don’t have to be in control of another country’s territory in order to annex it., I have decided to do some annexing of my own.

Firstly, the champagne region of France. I will be deciding on tax rates on bottles shortly but can offer jo’s readers a good price. Then I will be annexing several of the biggest ski centres in the Swiss alps and will need to make a visit there shortly to select some swanky chalets to serve as my administrative centres.

I will then be annexing Sydney and Perth but shall offer the latter to jo for a good price which I am sure readers here will be pleased to crowdi fund

Referendum? Of course I carried out a referendum but the data is classified for the next fifty years but you can take my word for it that the results are robust

I will be a benevolent dictator. You have nothing to fear from me, provided you pay your taxes

Please annex all the East coast to the edge of the Great Dividing Range and cut them off from the productive areas… We’ll create the wealth and sell stuff to them so they can pass the money round and round, but they aren’t allowed to raid us for tax!

Also, their stupid environmental laws don’t apply over the hills…

The U.S. Needs To Change Course Right Now in Ukraine

That overly simplified and Manichaean position, in short, is one of Ukrainian maximalism: Putin is evil, Volodymyr Zelensky is noble, and — here is the big logical leap — the United States will thus support the Ukrainian effort to retake every square inch of territory in the Donbas and Crimea from its nuclear-armed adversary, seemingly no matter the cost to the U.S. taxpayer.

At this stage in the war, virtually all of this pablum is asinine and counterproductive to the actual U.S. national interest in these contested areas. Our national interest in the Ukrainian theater is not coterminous with Zelensky’s absolutist stance; our interest is for de-escalation, detente, and peace. But if we want to achieve those ends — especially as the threat of nuclear warfare is bursting out into the open, many in the West recklessly double down on calls for Ukraine’s ascension to NATO, and the war-hungry Zelensky is himself calling for a NATO-led “preemptive strike” against Russia — Biden needs to recognize reality and change strategic course immediately.

Elon Musk attracts controversy as he doubles down on proposals to end Ukraine war

Tesla billionaire Elon Musk has continued to agitate political pundits with his proposed solutions to the Ukraine conflict.

          October 7, 2022

In his latest string of tweets, Musk claimed peace between Ukraine and Russia could be achieved by redoing “elections of annexed regions under UN supervision”, with Russia to leave “if that is the will of the people”.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky shot back at Musk’s recent opinion on how to end the conflict with minimal further violence, accusing him of supporting Russia in a Twitter poll.

Ukranian diplomat and lawyer Andrij Melnyk went even further, writing: “F**k off is my very diplomatic reply to you [Elon Musk].”

He has since doubled down on his effort to bring the conflict to end in a way he believes to be the most peaceful, attracting criticism for posting an electoral map from 2012 showing widespread support for Russia in Ukraine’s east.

“Assuming you believe that the will of the people matters, we should, in any given conflict region, support the will of those who live there,” he said.

“Most of Ukraine unequivocally wants to be part of Ukraine, but some eastern portions have Russian majorities and prefer Russia.”

While he has shown clear support for Ukraine’s fight against Vladimir Putin’s “special military operation”, spending US$80 million via SpaceX this year on providing satellite internet for the war-torn nation, some believe his latest comments show overt support for Russia.

    Essay:
On the Subjective Mental State of Liberals

(Note, “liberals” in the US sense meaning regressive Democrat Party Marxists, not the “classical liberalism” of thinkers like Friedrich Hayek, Milton Friedman, Ludwig von Mises, Thomas Sowell, George Stigler etc. as the term “liberal” is understood outside the US.)

    https://theworthyhouse.com/2018/11/04/on-the-subjective-mental-state-of-liberals/

    QUOTES

    [..]

I conclude that liberals have four key qualia, ones unique to liberals, compared to normal human beings. I note, by the way, that all human beings share most of their qualia. There is no reason to believe that liberals perceive, say, the color red differently than the rest of humanity, or the taste of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Here we are seeking the qualia distinctions that explain political action.

    [..]

The first quale is that liberals do not see reality as it is. What their eyes perceive is not the truth, because everything is filtered through an ideological lens, which removes anything that contradicts their ideology before it can enter their minds. Reality is totally subordinated to political ends, which are derived purely from abstractions.

    [..]

The second quale, related to but distinct from their divorce from reality, is that liberals use key words, first inside their heads and then spoken out loud, only after mentally assigning them new meanings designed to serve their abstract political goals.

    [..]

The third quale, again related but distinct, is emotivism ruling rationality. Any matter perceived by a liberal that affects his political worldview is not analyzed objectively, nor are his conclusions supported logically, but rather with unbridled emotion. Occasional efforts at rationality are made, but upon any examination or challenge, emotion swamps any such attempt.

    [..]

The fourth quale is breathtaking arrogance, blended with a nebulous, yet unshakeable, conviction of their own moral superiority, both tied to the belief that history is a wave and liberals are destined to ride it like the Silver Surfer. The origin of this is not anything rational, such as an analysis of the past and measured predictions about the future, but an insatiable desire to lord it over supposed inferiors, feeding the human desire to feel that one is on a higher plane than others.

Test case on the mental state of “Liberals” based on the 4 listed quales:
1 – Reality – the climate is changing. Response when viewed through the CO2 ideological lens – it must be fossil fuels and nothing else matters. Shut them down, stop exploration, deny their infrastructure development.
      [..]
2 – They are not listening – they are deplorables, deniers – silence them.
      [..]
3 – We have an answer – solar and wind will save us – it is clean and cheap.
      [..]
4 – Why are producers of fossil fuels making enormous profits? Who still uses that stuff? I don’t understand. Tax them out of existence – that should fix all our problems.

In the words of TdeF a few blogs ago:
They are virtue signalling while undermining their own existence and the viability of the country.

    Difference between Orwell and Huxley

“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one.

Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism.

Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance.

Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture….”

“Bad news for the US Electric Vehicle industry”

“The Department of Labor plans to add lithium-ion batteries to a list of products whose components are known to be made using child or forced labour. This means that there is not a single EV assembled in the U.S. today that would fully qualify for the $7,500 per unit subsidy contained in the IRA. That’s a huge financial hit to Ford, GM, Toyota and other U.S. auto-assemblers if it is not changed – OR – if the U.S. doesn’t somehow develop its own mining and processing industries for these critical minerals, an effort that would take decades and hundreds of billions more dollars than are contained in the Inflation Reduction Act.”

Oops, Electric Vehicles Are Exploding After Water Damage from Hurricane Ian

President Joe Biden, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg all want you to buy electric vehicles in the future, with Newsom even aiming to ban gas-powered cars by 2035. Just be prepared that your new automobile might explode if the battery gets too wet.

Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s Chief Financial Officer & State Fire Marshal, tweeted Thursday:

There’s a ton of EVs disabled from Ian. As those batteries corrode, fires start. That’s a new challenge that our firefighters haven’t faced before. At least on this kind of scale. #HurricaneIan

American EVs aren’t the only transportation devices experiencing this problem. Indian English-language daily the Deccan Herald details numerous reports of batteries in electric scooters exploding, sometimes causing death:

Totally agree and an “unsung” consequence IMHO is the fact that all the rain caused by that event remains in the saturated ground making it very low temperature so the summer winds blowing over that space are going to be cooled. We are of course not at the permafrost level but certainly very far from the dry heat conducting level of previous summers.

‘Love hormone’ oxytocin may help mend broken hearts (literally), lab study suggests.

Oxytocin, sometimes called the “love hormone,” may help heal broken hearts — literally. In a new study of zebrafish and human cells, scientists found that the brain-made hormone may help heart tissue regenerate after injury and, in theory, could someday be used in the treatment of heart attacks, according to the researchers.

Because the new study was conducted in fish tanks and lab dishes, however, this theoretical treatment is still far from realization.

The new study, published Friday (Sept. 30) in the journal Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology(opens in new tab), highlights yet another potential benefit of oxytocin: At least in zebrafish, the hormone helps the heart replace injured and dead cardiomyocytes, the muscle cells that power heart contractions. Early results in human cells hint that oxytocin could stimulate similar effects in people, if delivered with the right timing and dose.

The ethics of resurrecting the dead for organ harvesting

With little attention or debate, transplant surgeons across the country are experimenting with a kind of partial resurrection: They’re allowing terminal patients to die, then restarting their hearts while clamping off blood flow to their brains. The procedure allows the surgeons to inspect and remove organs from warm bodies with heartbeats.

Transplant surgeons and several bioethicists argue that the procedure is appropriate and crucial to boosting the number of organs that are available for transplant. But critics — including other bioethicists and the nation’s second-largest physician organization — warn that surgeons are trampling the line between life and death.

Did Uncle Sam, a.k.a. Wile E. Coyote, Blow Up the Wrong Pipeline?

After “parties not-so-unknown” bombed the Nordstream gas pipeline, Anthony Blinken celebrated the “tremendous opportunity.” He assumed the whole Nordstream operation was out of commission. That would have given US producers the chance to make billions of dollars robbing Europe blind selling overpriced gas.

But Blinken may have celebrated too soon.

After the suspected sabotage of the network last week in a series of explosions, Gazprom said on Monday three of the lines were affected and one wasn’t. The gas giant has lowered pressure on the unaffected line B of Nord Stream 2 to inspect the link for damage and potential leaks, it said in a statement on its Telegram account.

    An Unz Review commenter explained:

“The vaunted US Navy screwed up. In the murky depths of the Baltic Sea they planted their explosives to blow up the ***FOUR*** pipes of the NS 1 & NS2 gas pipelines.

None of this conspiracy speculation is worth a bean, the damage is only temporary. Repair is ‘easy’, routine even.
Some people have said possible sea water entry is the end of the world, it isn’t, drying cleaning and renewing the internal anti corrosion layer is part of the repair process.
      The Americans know this.
Far from Russia gaining nothing, they also know it is temporary, and therefore risk nothing as far as future gas sales go.
In the meantime they cause another panic response in the gas market, and have everyone scrambling to send military resources to protect all their undersea cables and pipelines like the UK is.

Sweden, Denmark and Norway block Nord Stream from examining pipeline
      Nord Stream, the company.

Nord Stream, the company which owns and operates the gas pipeline hit by suspected sabotage last month, has said it cannot examine the pipeline because it has not been given permission by the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian authorities.

The twin Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines have been leaking huge quantities of gas since they were damaged in a series of suspected explosions on September 26th.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Nord Stream AG, the company which owns and operates the pipelines, said it had so far been unable to carry out its own inspections.

“As of today, Nord Stream AG is unable to inspect the damaged sections of the gas pipeline due to the lack of earlier requested necessary permits,” the company, which is 51 percent owned by the Russian gas giant Gazprom, wrote.

“In particular,” it added, “according to the Swedish authorities, a ban on shipping, anchoring, diving, using of underwater vehicles, geophysical mapping, etc. has been introduced to conduct a state investigation around the damage sites in the Baltic Sea.”

“According to information received from the Danish authorities, the processing time of the Nord Stream AG request for the survey may take more than 20 working days.”

      https://www.thelocal.no/20221005/sweden-denmark-and-norway-block-nord-stream-from-examining-pipeline/

As MrGrimMcnasty (cute name btw) effectively said, pipeline sections are installed sequentially so salt water intrusion is not a real issue.
Believe what you want, but if you get it wrong…you work it out…

USDA now asking people to register their vegetable gardens for national database

In a move that has many folks scratching their heads, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has renewed its push for the People’s Garden Initiative which now includes registering vegetable gardens nationwide. According to the USDA, the move is to foster a “more diverse and resilient local food system to empower communities to address issues like nutrition access and climate change.” But those who have been following the USDA closely for years know that they couldn’t care less about your health and nutrition.

To register your garden with the USDA, one must meet several easily obtainable standards.

School gardens, community gardens, urban farms, and small-scale agriculture projects in rural, suburban and urban areas can be recognized as a “People’s Garden” if they register on the USDA website and meet criteria including benefitting the community, working collaboratively, incorporating conservation practices and educating the public.

These standards essentially define every community garden in the country. Now, the government organization that shells out billions every year to companies whose products, like high-fructose corn syrup, are responsible for a massive epidemic of obesity across the planet, will have a database of them.

Top doctor Nick Coatsworth issues blunt warning about children as young as five getting the Covid vaccine as he urges Australia to SCRAP jabs for kids: ‘The benefit just isn’t there’

. Dr Nick Coatsworth demanded review into Covid vaccine for healthy children
. UK has stopped offering the jab to children who turned five after August 2022
. In Sweden, health officials are now longer offering jabs to 12-17 year olds
. In Australia, the jab is free and recommended to anyone over the age of 5

Spread Professor Clancy’s wonderful essay far and wide. It is an excellent summation of the problems we have experienced in this pandemic.

In September last year he had an excellent letter published in Quadrant, headlined: “A black day for Australian medicine”, responding to the prohibition order placed on Ivermectin. He had other letters on Quadrant, too.

I note now that this essay was written in 2022 for the class of 1965.

      Now I’ll read Dr Coatsworth.

Seen this the other day here somewhere and struggling to get my head around how 1 ton of coal can emit 2.8 tons of CO2 when burnt ?

I take it you’re going by atomic weight C12 and O16 by which one could suppose the ratio should be one ton yielding 44/12 or 3.6 tons so there must be something other than carbon in that ton of coal. More than likely the statement is simply wrong which has become the norm of this new dark age.
