We have lived in an all electric house since 1989. The electrons come from hydro power of the Great Columbia River, in Washington State. I think we are the next to lowest cost electricity in the USA.
The house was built in 1982. We put new shingles on a few years ago, and this year added more insulation in the attic.
Melissa with the two kids may enjoy the electric house, but what that has to do with smoke from brush fires or being green (not for her I think) is a mystery.

John makes a good point here, and he’s correct where he says second lowest, as Louisiana is the cheapest, but only by 0.4 cents/KWH.
He pays 9.65cents/KWH, and when converted to AUD that’s 13.5cents/KWH, around half what I pay here in Queensland.
It’s all there on this Table from the EIA, as shown at this link.
Now, as you look at that Table, you can see a number of things. Those three States in New England where it is so expensive, be aware that those States import virtually all of their power from the States which actually have power plants in them.
The U.S. average (right at the bottom) is 13.1 Cents/kwh and that’s around 19 cents/KWH when converted to AUD, about two thirds of what we pay here in Oz.
Also note the difference between the unit cost for Commerce and then Industry, and Industry is (on the whole) around half the unit cost for residential power. There’s nothing untoward in that as the average Commercial bill would be (average) residential multiplied by 20, and the average Industrial bill would be Res X (around) 100+.
Also, when you look at New York, look at Commerce there, and then just try and imagine Manhattan, which consumes more power than, well, say ….. Africa.

The ACT is not 100 per cent renewable energy, that Territory Government deception relies on the Territory Government having invested in wind and solar installations around the State of New South Wales and theoretically, based on the combined output, the electricity offsets the about 80 per cent of electricity from the grid being generated from power stations and fossil fuel.
Once again the Installed Capacity deception is used, Capacity Factor ignored.
Regarding the EV story, note the wish for government/taxpayer funding subsidies !!!

Gas is by far the most efficient way to heat your home in the ACT. It is instantaneous when kicking in on those cold -5degC mornings while the reverse cycle crowd just aren’t up to it. The energy source when not needed is conveniently stored in natural reservoirs underground.

When are we going to find journalists with just a smidgen of engineering competence. Nobody will stand around waiting for batteries to charge. They will use swappable batteries! Quicker than filling up with petrol.
That can also overcome the intermittent supply problem. The vehicle can be at work while the battery is charging or waiting to charge. The only problem is the cost of the batteries. Which can never be less than the raw materials they are made from.
But how are supercapacitors coming along? If graphene can emulate the silicon chip as to production costs, that might create a new world.

…..”swapable” batteries have been tried ( Tesla, Renault, and separate corpoations) ..and rejected as unworkable, financially or logisticly….its a dead duck.!
And Supercacitors ahve a whole host of issues when applied to mobile use…..most notably their energy density and voltage discharge profile…
IE. they require 4+ times the volume for an equivalent kWh capacity, and their voltage drops dramatically (80%). as the capacity is consumed. Unlike lithium which only drops 25%)
Major technology changes are required before battery applications really become sensible.

Infact there has not been any significant development in fundamental battery metrics since the early nineties….nearly 30 years since the Lithium cell was commercialised !

Hi Joanne-thank you for shedding light on the darker, troubling, and even evil aspects of the US presidential campaign, wrapping in three weeks.
I know that our Anglophone cousins Down-under will be much affected by whatever leadership emerges from that elephant (USA) in our common cultural sphere, and therefore have a definite interest in the outcome.
Tonight on FNC, Sean Hannity leads with the declining memory of Democrat candidate, Joe Biden. I hope this segment gets posted online soon so I can share it because, as Sean points out, no US media is covering this aspect of Biden’s unfitness for the highest office.
Sean points out that this memory decline from Monday alone includes not knowing where he is, confusion about what office he’s running for, and what was the name of political opponents he’s worked with or against.
Late in August or July, an email from a former Biden staffer appeared online. She decried his elder abuse because she reported that he was put on anti-senility drugs, but was coping with side effects like incontinence and exhaustion. Thus, what adult diaper to wear and how to conceal it was among the challenges being faced by his staff this past (Northern) summer.
Ultimately, she recoiled from this sad and severe situation, she declared, quitting from the campaign staff.
Obviously, people debate whether or not this account was real or an imposter.
Personally, I accept this account as likely because it fits in with early senility and memory decline that I seen in family elders and in Biden himself. But if one has not seen these clips of his garbled word salad and marked struggles to find words and names that an older man undamaged by age can find, like a Trump, one can well doubt my endorsement.
In the US, the corporate media exists to shield their Leftist party from problems like their Brownshirt city rioters and gaffs by their pols and Biden from vetting.
Just as with climate science lies, we have to examine the evidence.

Given the incumbent bureaucracy our swamp is much worse than the one Trump is trying to flush out. So what hope is there of Australia escaping anarchy? As long as we have the kind of leaders in place today; none. We would need all state and federal leaders to be like Trump. Of course that’s never going to happen, at least not in our life times.

We’ve had a few charismatic leaders in the past that made significant changes. Menzies and Hawke are just two of them. Also you overestimate the powers of a US President. He has to deal with very similar issues as our PM, such as Congress and the Senate and on top of that at times even the Supreme Court. The distinction between a Republic such as the US and a Democracy such as ours is minimal. Only in people’s mind do they see huge differences, such as in the idealistic Pure Democracy, which never existed in the modern world.

Mr Eccles and Mr Ashton’s two-minute phone call occurred in this critical six-minute window. Something he denied under oath.
Now that records have been made available, Eccles ‘appears to have made’ the phone call to the Police chief he swore under oath he did not make. But he resigned so that he did not distract from all the work to be done. Criminal prosecution is almost not enough for these progressive villains. A good jail sentence at a minimum. Or they can work on the Covid front line themselves.

There is increasing public reaction to Wind farms in Germany, leading to increasing regulation and planning restrictions for new installations.
Some authorities are making new installations commercially unviable, and together with the windback of subsidies,.the wind power industry is in a stagnant ( declining ) period.
GDr Government are in turmoil over the huge costs of RE conversion and are considering “importing” much of their future power needs ,..in the form of Hydrogen ? !)…from cheap producers overseas (Saudi etc)
Net result is that its very likely in 2021 Germany will decommission more Wind turbines than new ones are installed.
Atlast, some reality enters the debate ..( well, until the Hydrogen solution entered the discussion 🙄 )

As Donald Trump has pointed out, Germany is absolutely dependent on Russia for gas, like most of Eastern Europe through to Ukraine. America for the first time in 72 years is energy independent and a nett exporter. How can NATO work as a deterrent when they are all dependent on Russia? Germany of all countries knows this.
Germany like Victoria has ample brown coal which it will not use. It’s all a form of political madness, with not a skerrick of actual science. It’s like surgery being abandoned and people taught instead about biorhythms and yoga and deep meditation.

It is quite enlightening as to how the German govmt is rethinking its RE strategy now it realises the costs and practicalities of the introduction of RE into their systems.

All they have to do is what the Netherlands do; buy renewable certificates from the Norwegian (and Swedish) hydro systems. So about 50% of the emissions there are written off as ‘renewable”.
Burn a bit of wood, say half a million tons and keep burning household rubbish as they do now without it counting as CO2 released.
The other possibility is to keep their nuclear plants going once fears of a tsunami roaring up The Rhine subside.
It is great business for Norway in particular, 98% of their electricity from hydro or hydro + cheap (wind) electricity from Germany**. Cheap electricity, no carbon tax to pay and on top of that income from certificates. The only worm in the apple is droughts.
**The last time I looked they were buying electricity at 26€ per MWh and selling it at 83€ per MWh.

The lunacy is that CO2 is not the slightest problem to anyone. Who has a problem with it? Not a single prediction of imminent disaster has come true in 50 years. And that is without the real science which says the level is not man made anyway, so it is all a terrible waste.
Still Germans want a perfectly Green world. They were always passionate Greenies. Tree worshippers. Animists. Many Russians as well. Wind, fire, water and ancestors.
But wind power is not cheap, not adequate, not predictable and the list goes on. Coal is the only answer. You just wonder where humanity would be if the $1.5Trillion a year wasted on replaceables was spent on limitless, pollution free fusion development.
In the meantime, we could not change the CO2 level even if we wanted to do so. The Climate ‘targets’ are not based on any arithmetic, just fantasy. And what proves CO2 levels are natural is that is that no one is able to show any change at all in CO2 levels caused by human events, like the Wu Flu shutdown or bushfires or volcanoes or anything else. None of it is science and none of it is true.
Besides Carbon 14 levels show less than 5% man made CO2 at any time. What a massive waste of money, except that money is never wasted. It makes the owners of windmills rich, so that is one benefit. AGL for example.

A young friend, having finished his 11 pm shift and keen to get home, was cruising along the highway within the speed limit. Cars were racing past but he kept to the limit, being a P plater with an unpaid fine.
All of a sudden there were no cars to be seen and then one turned up and began to follow him, then tailgate. Still no other cars within cooee, so my mate increases his speed a little thinking they are Lakemba hoons looking for a fight, or a drunk trying to stay in the speed limit by following someone travelling at a moderate pace.
The car then pulled out and took off at phenomenal speed, blazoned on the back in large letters POLICE. Which sort of explains why no other cars passed.
I spit on their behaviour, my mate got a speeding ticket.

Nitrous Oxide is really nothing new.
Remember the CO2 Tax introduced by, well, wotsername now.
Part of that was an all encompassing Tax on not just CO2 but a whole slew of other gases as well, in an effort to
make as much money as possible, sorry, save the World.Part of that Australian Legislation, (umm, still on the books you know, ready and waiting) was the following table of those 23 gases and their equivalence rating to CO2. This table was lifted directly from the UNFCCC UNIPCC.
Each of the gases is given an equivalence rating with respect to CO2.
Note that on this table Nitrous Oxide at number three is given an equivalence of 310.
Okay, now what that means is that CO2 is the base level of one.
Whatever price is set on CO2 emissions, then, using Nitrous Oxide as the example, then it is that CO2 dollar cost multiplied by 310, so at that original cost on CO2 of $26/Tonne, then that means Nitrous Oxide comes in at $8060 per Tonne.
I suppose now you gain an inkling on how this might have an effect especially on the farming and grazing Communities, not just on the cost of the actual gas itself, but the levels of bureaucracy for measuring, calculating, and recording the emissions of said gas.
As you look at this table, all those other gases are air conditioning and medical gases.
That’s why with the introduction of said CO2 tax here in Oz, the cost of airconditioner servicing skyrocketed.

This data is presented a little differently to what is usually offered because it considers the energy balance over the oceans to show the amount of heat rejected as OLR plus SWR. It is not a power flux but rather the total energy rejected from longitudinal bands at the specific temperature.
The main point to note is that the curve is approaching 30C asymptotically. Stated differently, the maximum temperature of any longitudinal band will only approach 30C; never exceed that temperature.
To put this in perspective, the possibly unnoticed red curve at the base of the chart is the monthly energy contribution from doubling CO2 according to the MODTRAN calculations, utterly insignificant compared to what tropical storms achieve in rejecting energy.

Further to my weekend unthreaded comment on the US polls, the numbers on the ground tell the real story of Biden’s alleged popularity v. Trump’s. Some random examples:
• Over 30,000 cars + boats came to the Miami Latinos for Trump rally.
• Biden supporters managed 15 cars at a rival Florida drive-in rally.
• Pence drew over 4,000 supporters to his Florida rally.

I have just received proof that the result of sensitive Freedom of Information requests can depend on who does the actual work in applying the various Sections of the Act which can cause some parts of a document to be redacted (blacked out). This is very disturbing because these sections are designed to protect either the privacy of individuals not involved in making the request or the release of potentially distressing information relating to the person who did make the request. In this case I am referring to Section 47F – Personal Privacy.
There ought to be consistency no matter who (as part of a team) does the work. More than one person is involved in any request and the final decision on what’s released rests with the manager. However in my case there was a clerical error made and the office concerned sent me much sensitive information I did not ask for!
In the past five years I have made several FOI requests to my former employer, a department in the Australian Public Service. Earlier this year I requested documents for a specific date range in the 1990s. It took a long time because in those days everything was still held in paper files. These had to be fetched from interstate and scanned into the computer. Eventually they started going through the documents to answer my request.
It turns out that with the information I did NOT ask for the department duplicated an FOI request I made five years ago without apparently realising it! In more than a dozen instances they released redacted Section 47F information to me which was withheld five years ago. Some of it is distressing to me but also valuable.
They already knew I had made a request five years ago which took 18 months to run its course with appeals for reconsideration and then referral to a higher authority. You would think they would have checked that they were not working on something previously requested!
I would not dream of making the same FOI request years apart in the hope of achieving what I received by mistake! I will soon inform the department and see what happens.

Florida looks good at the moment, but don’t forget the other swing states, and the Electoral College votes they bring. Remember that US elections have nothing to do with how many people vote…it is THE VOTE IN THE SWING STATES THAT COUNTS!
