According to Nature these corals do not exist

Jennifer Marohasy dives on Beige Reef near Stone Island with Walter Stark, and Emmy Award winning cinematographer Clint Hempsall.

The aim was just to record what was there… don’t believe your lying eyes.

Fortunately, this science is not peer reviewed.

    Nice work from Prof. Marohasy.

That popping sound you hear is Terry Hughes’s head a-popping!

    Hands-on sure beats a fossil-fuelled fly over … https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/mar/25/great-barrier-reef-aerial-survey-reveals-extent-of-coral-bleaching

“Now, using both planes and helicopters, Hughes has found what he says is the worst bleaching in the region he has ever seen.”

So Jennifer has filmed some pretty coral and you want to extrapolate it to say the reef is fine?.
I call that beige ( light brown ) science, no wonder Jo doesn’t want any peer review.

Michael, you haven’t lost the old magic!

Now tell us again about peer review and publication and all that. We’re rather inclined to forget out here in the shed.

Then tell us again about peer review and publication. It’s like I Love Lucy. Never gets old.

Well if he’s so hung up on peer review a simple search of Jenifer’s website will find straight off the bat,

‘I AM a scientist, natural historian and writer. I have more than a dozen technical papers published in peer-reviewed climate science journals and as book chapters. I have also published on mangroves, midges and many other things.’

But like a good little warmist Michael will shift the goal posts to fit the agenda, oh and the whole point of the exercise was to show corals exist in places some scientists & non-scientist experts claim they cannot because of the misheld belief of AGW/CAGW.

There must be a lot of that pretty coral out there eh?

This a fairly recent, deceptively cunning. and simple theory.

Humans are a type of ‘heard’ animal.

If Jones ‘heard’ Smith say something and then ‘heard’ Brown say the same thing, then Jones is convinced it is so and could not be otherwise.

        Michael262,

Tell me the story about how climate scientists accepted weaknesses in algorithm choice and incorrect use of statistics in their peer reviewed and published papers, as pointed out by other climate scientists in following peer reviewed publications. And how that process, of having flawed papers withdrawn, with lead author’s politely acknowledging the polite response of their peers, has led to a significant improvement in the quality of climate science publications over time.

Which is, of course, why climate science holds one of the esteemed positions in the modern era of science publication, as having been shown to not suffer from the replication crisis afflicting so many science fields.

        Right!

This evidence for AGW is really something. It manages to grow like lantana in contradiction of centuries of patient geology, stratigraphy, glaciology, oceanography, speleology, archaeology and history. But all that old stuff must have been before we had…(drum roll, please)…peer review!

Dr Marohosy observational pilot study seen above exemplifies how desperately broken the pseudo-science of climatism alarmism always was and remains. Without a complicit MSM, dull witted politicians or neo-Marxist globalist ideologues in politics and institutions, the meme would completely unravel in a matter of a few short weeks.
The classical peer review process is clearly and intentionally broken.
For example, the Lancet took 12 years to fully retract the Wakefield nonsense, which should never have seen the light of day and thereby allowed an unchecked MSM to peddle the anti-vax MMR /autism meme for more than a decade leading to the present measles crisis. Current academics recommend internet censorship as a solution, the same solution they suggest for climate denialism. It seems to be the neo-Marxist globalist hallmark.
Climatism will lead to economic failure, destitution, and death. Do we really have to do and go through all that before we reject the nonsense? The demented Left has a murderous litany of historical failure and continues to peddle its wares. It has no place in a rational future World.
The sordid vax story may be read here. It is almost an exact parallel with the climatism charade.

              Latus,

Wakefield is a subject I have followed for many years. Both sides of the story. I read your link. It is accurate to the degree that it gives an account in accord with what was published that was critical of the article published in the Lancet. But there’s a lot more to it. And it’s no where near an exact parallel with the climatism charade.

You might want to read Wakefield’s book, “Callous Disregard”.

Latus has replied, but no. This is far off topic. Not at #1. Move to unthreaded OK? – Jo

Those scenes have clearly been produced using special effects and probably taken somewhere in another country. Such reefs haven’t existed around Australia since before the industrial age. I asked the BOM and they did some homogenisation and confirmed that the video has been manipulated. I trust the BOM as they know all about manipulation.

Of course not. There’s no point in looking for coral in places where the computer program says there aren’t any.

Wow! Nonexistent corals and in living color too. Wonders truly never cease. It must have taken years of magic spells and incantations to get them to pose for their picture.

It’s too bad that being non existent will keep them from accepting lucrative speaking engagements all over the world. Just think about how much the suckers out there would pay to get a glimpse of these corals that aren’t here. 😉

Apparently in response to reports from Ridd and others that good coral was to be found around eg Stone island, the powers that be sent another well-heeled academic out there to check the Nature paper, which duly reported back that the findings in Nature were accurate. Trouble is, they stopped 30m short of abundant coral in their second newer survey, which survey, like the first, was likely carefully selected to not find anything. This logic escaped the well heeled academic. (Any child could have found the coral-‘look Mommy just over there-pink coral!. ‘Don’t go there darling, that’s outside the University designated survey area’.).

They can’t even get it right when they check things, because these surveys and academic papers are often arranged in such a way as to get a pre-determined result. It often requires an outsider to see these things, who is more likely to not get asked in the first place.

Institutionalised bias can be a difficult nut to crack, but the public are a different matter, I believe the public will eventually wake up, just like the above child-‘look just over there!’

… imagine what would happen if they found all was ok .

That’s a more accurate statement about human nature than you think. We all want some attention from our fellow man. It’s built in. Call it recognition or need for a following, it has many variations. Now if you realize that you should accomplish something worthwhile because that gets you recognition that lasts, that won’t be constantly challenged then you stay honest and you aren’t a problem to anyone. But if you want a following and don’t want to do the work it takes to get it, there is one surefire way to do it. You simply tell people they have a problem even if they don’t know it yet. And oh, by the way, only you can solve it for them.

And there you have among many other notables, Mr. Al Gore, right down to the silly look on his face as he self-righteously proclaims his warning of the end of civilization. The list of such people is too long to recite.

We fight ourselves in this climate change war. Who will not listen if told there’s a serious problem? We all listen. Some of us know to ask questions and some don’t and that’s what makes the difference. But we all follow something because it’s human nature to want to belong to something, hopefully something important. And what could be more important than preventing the end of civilization. It catches so many that if we were fish every fisherman in the world would starve for want of his daily catch.

Roy, a little OT ( and speaking of fallible human nature) a revealing comment by farmers about how land is locked up so it cant have hazard reduction burns. Not sure what the US is like for this green disease.

        https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/safety-in-numbers-as-a-horror-fire-season-looms-firefighters-are-struggling-to-attract-new-volunteers-20191115-p53avi.html

“But to the residents of Congarinni South it just looks like not enough is happening.

“Since they’ve locked the bush up, this is what’s gonna happen. We need to start doing controlled burns again, every winter,” says local Ben Donnelly, who has been bulldozing fire trails into land from Kempsey to Macksville over the past week.

““Every winter we need to light the ridge tops and just let it creep down to the gully, like they used to 15, 20 years ago,” he said, adding that there was not enough credit given to local farmers who had lived on the land for generations, who “know the land”.

“It’s a similar line to that pushed by Nationals Leader and Deputy Premier John Barilaro in Parliament on Wednesday, as he lit the fuse on a brawl over staffing levels inside the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Every winter we need to light the ridge tops and just let it creep down to the gully, like they used to 15, 20 years ago

That statement tells you what to do.

On our community forum here I tried to get a serous discussion going about the real reason the recent fires have been so severe. But no, that’s forbidden and they ultimately censored me. I pushed back and they didn’t like that either so I deleted my account. I may go back at some point but for now they refuse to address the real problem and I don’t need the fight.

The article you linked could have been written here. The details would be different but the problem is the same.

I used to think that government imposed solutions to things was he way to go. But somewhere along the road to now, life convinced me otherwise. The best solutions to problems happen at the lowest possible level. That’s where the people with the legitimate vested interest are.

I hope that answers your question and I apologize for going into angry mode.

What would happen if they actually picked cherries rather than cherry picked their data? At least then they would be doing something useful rather than just sucking on the body politic. Even then, they would be paid much too much and doing more damage than good.

One more time: stop feeding them and they will go away.

And Venice Italy is now sinking because of rising tides.

No mention of the city being built hundreds of years ago on sand spit mounted on hardwood piers that are sinking and/or rotting now.

My first visit to Venice on a holiday was in the mid-1970s and we were surprised one evening after dining in a restaurant to find St Marks Square covered in water, and it was at that time a local explained the sinking and why so.

Not a lot of glacial history on Hawaii, but very fertile soils.

No Glaciers ? As a radio tech , I had a terrible time getting an earthing system installed for the radio gear on a hill top . Tried drilling a bore hole with a drilling rig , nearly lost the pneumatic drill head off the rod as the sides of the hole caved in on the rod . Just digging a trench with a back hoe was a major job as rocks the size of a fridge had to be moved . The hill is comprised of a big pile of loose rocks of varying size . From the size of your fist to the size of a car . The hill was left there by a glacier when it stopped and receded ( one hell of a bulldozer ! ) . This in Southern NSW .
I think Ian Plimer mentions glaciers in his terrific book ” Heaven and Earth” .
As for the ABC : perhaps they should be put on ice ( or under it )!

There is still the basic problem with Global Warming, let alone man made Global Warming. +1C in a hundred years is not going to have any effect on anything. Water temperatures at the Great Barrier reef alone vary by 7C, South to North. So how does anyone expect that any effect of this slow tiny change, not detectable by any animal or plant can possibly produce a problem? How can 1C in Siberia or Colorado make a difference as it goes from -40C to +40C?

It’s a bit like Scotland. There are two seasons, June and Winter. +1C would improve both, but hardly enough.

Yes, a basic problem with global warming is that in the bigger picture it clearly ain’t.
      Lloyd PJ (2015)
The Holocene records up to 8000 years before present, from several ice cores were examined. The differences in temperatures between all records which are approximately a century apart were determined, after any trends in the data had been removed. The differences were close to normally distributed. The average standard deviation of [centennial] temperature was 0.98 ± 0.27C.

Business as usual. The noise of Climate variability drowns the theoretical signal of global Climate change. Local climate change appears largely indisputable – artificial lake formation, deforestation, enforestation, urban heat island etc…

But there is an unspoken assumption that the world is perfect right now and any change is bad. That is amazing. And unlikely.

I don’t think there is any climate in the world where if people were asked, they would not change it if they could. Living in a land of droughts and flooding rains is not a great idea. Never having enough water and then far too much is a real problem. We should be addressing the changes we want and need, not trying to stop any change at all, man made or not.

Given the huge natural variation in ocean temperatures over the 100 million years since corals became widespread (there is evidence of them since 535 million years ago but they were not widespread) where did the idea even come from that they couldn’t tolerate a slight (supposed) increase in temperature? Even NOAA admits to the temperature tolerance of corals.

    https://oceanservice.noaa.gov › facts

In what types of water do corals live?

    – NOAA’s National Ocean Service
Reef-building corals cannot tolerate water temperatures below 64° Fahrenheit (18° Celsius). Many grow optimally in water temperatures between 73° and 84° Fahrenheit (23°–29°Celsius), but some can tolerate temperatures as high as 104° Fahrenheit (40° Celsius) for short periods.

    80

    • #
      Graeme No.3

      David Maddison:
Yes there were corals so long ago, but the End Permian Extinction wiped them out.
Modern corals are only about 245 million years old. They survived the end Triassic extinction and other “difficulties” such as the asteroid impact, ice ages etc.
The coloured types exist on the GBR over about 2600 km. then into PapuaNewGuinea. Also not the Red Sea where temperatures are up to 5℃ warmer.

Well done Jennifer. I think making videos about the issue is the way to go. The public cannot latch onto written technical papers or critiques of those papers.

Just as Tony Heller is doing with his videos,, so successfully I encourage Jennifer and others to keep doing it. Obviously it can be more costly but I’m sure there supporters out there that will help.

It is interesting where I am now seeing Tony Heller’s videos being linked into conversations on all sorts of sites/blogs. Similarly I have seen this Jennifer’s video spreading to other sites, already. Piers Corbyn’s recently released set of 4 videos are spreading around quickly.

Could someone of greater wisdom please explain how man made ‘climate change’ directly damaged the reef? How does it work?

Or is it that man made Global Warming changes ‘stuff’, even a ridiculously small 1C and this is a significant change so it must be Climate Change and therefore bad. And all bad stuff is due to Climate Change. Is that it?

Is there any proof of this idea that 1C bleaches the reef? Of course computers prove nothing and models are just models, not the real thing. Like all programming systems, garbage in, garbage out. Evidence is needed. Is there any? Or is it a wild even absurd conjecture, like bushfires and floods and species extinction?

In fact is there any proof of any bad stuff from the 1C increase over 100 years? Man made or not.
Personally I find it amazing that the world is so sensitive and that the status quo is automatically perfect. And any variation is automatically bad.
Besides, no one could even feel a 1C change.

When Sir Isaac Newton gave an opinion on the new science of temperature, he suggested 100 degrees as a standard should be water so hot you could not keep your elbow in it. Now we are setting the world’s hottest year by 0.004C. You would get that variation from turning a light bulb on and off.

I have a mate who is a science teacher at Adelaide high.
I sent him the link to Jenniferr’s Beige Reef on Youtube.
    Here is his response :
“If these guys were genuine and thought that claims of coral bleaching is a left wing conspiracy, then why not fund the research and have the findings published for consideration by other scientists (peer review). But, no, they prefer to make a propaganda video so they can reach the public directly, to influence public opinion. These guys are dishonest Bill. ”
This from a science teacher !

I notice one “newspaper” is running articles that appear to align coal, right wing politics, Christianity and badness, whereas the Left, unreliable renewables, and scientifically unprovable climate change & “virtuous” values are embraced.

Interesting, the old saying goes, if you sup with the devil, you best have a long handled spoon. Has anyone told the Left this?

    https://www.smh.com.au/national/that-s-the-bloody-disgrace-australia-is-burning-but-nsw-is-cuddling-up-to-coal-20191114-p53ai7.html

“Thoughts and prayers? Miracles? Seriously, Mr Morrison? It was already 29 degrees by 9 am Tuesday, when hundreds gathered in Macquarie Street to protest against our governments’ strenuous addiction to coal. The rally was smaller than the climate strikes but every bit as poignant, outlining as it did the coal-shaped hole in our democracy.

““People are dying from climate change,” 38-year old Aaron Crowe told the crowd. “We’re not prepared.” His self-built Manning Valley house had burnt down on Friday night. Now, holding his small daughter Pepper, Crowe tipped its ashes from a tin compost bucket onto the footpath outside Parliament House. “Thoughts and prayers are not reliable. It’s not sensible policy. The time for miracles is over.”
    ………………..
“Read the science. Read the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Yes, the scientists erred – but on the side of caution, significantly underestimating both the scale and the pace of climate catastrophe. A Scientific American article this month notes that planetary ice is melting “as much as two orders of magnitude faster” – that’s a hundred times faster – than predicted.

    >>> OK…that would be the 50 models that are completely wrong then?
    ……………………..
“A sky that’s screaming danger,” recalls mid-coast mayor David West of Brimbin. “Like Armageddon,” says Maria Doherty of Port Macquarie. “A skyscraper of flames.”

    >>> The sky is falling,…..apparently…..or something…..
    ……………………..
“We need dissent. William McBride, the Sydney medic who died last year, realised in 1961 that the anti-morning sickness drug thalidomide was causing appalling birth defects. For six months The Lancet would not publish his work. The distribution company Distillers (says a new book) lied “on an industrial scale”. We need dissent because orthodoxy is never impartial. Orthodoxy can be wrong.

Yet dissent is what our governments increasingly and deliberately inhibit. Scott Morrison’s move to ban secondary boycotts, and his constant characterisation of protesters as anarchists, are the latest in a long line of moves, including repeated cuts to renewables funding, monitoring bodies and climate research, designed specifically to impede dissent from the fossil-fuel orthodoxy.

    >>>> Funny how secondary boycotts are illegal for a good reason.

“”As to planning law, last Tuesday’s climate-protest was part impelled by a new Bill that responds to the courts’ recent rejection of coalmines for their greenhouse emissions by prohibiting consent authorities from placing conditions related to emissions released from the burning of export coal. That’s the bloody disgrace.

“And so to the inexplicable way Christianity, with its right-wing elements becoming ever louder, has joined the push to degrade the very environment supposedly created for our delight. Dante depicted hell as an inferno and here it is, glaring at us with hot red eyes. If there is a devil, tempting us, it’s coal.

    >>>> Clearly Christianity is to blame for not going along with the CAGW climate lie……/sarc
    >>>> Actually, if you want an image of hell, its Communism. Ask anyone who has had to endure it, like my uncle who escaped Hungary to get away from it.

Why reef’s regeneration will be so special this year
    Adelaide Advertiser – 16 Nov 2019
It’s regarded as the greatest live sex show in the world, and scientists are buzzing about what they will get to see this year on the Great Barrier Reef…

16 Nov: Guardian: Book of the day: Science and nature books: Reef Life by Callum Roberts review – miraculous and threatened
‘Thunderclaps of wonder’ … a moving memoir by a marine biologist who has spent decades exploring coral reefs
    by Caspar Henderson
In August of this year, Gail Bradbrook, a co-founder of Extinction Rebellion, called for the widespread ingestion of psychedelic substances to help bring about a transformation in attitudes to the climate crisis and the living world. The proposal may sound far-fetched, but it has some science behind it…

In 2013, Roberts is in Australia supporting scientists and environmentalists who are trying to slow and even reverse the impact on the Great Barrier Reef of the development of new port facilities for the export of coal…
It is poignant to read this in 2019, long after Australian voters have returned a government that does not appear to believe that the climate crisis should be a cause for concern.
“I don’t know a single coral expert who is not haunted by doubt,” Roberts writes. “It is already possible to glimpse the most dystopian of futures.”…

Meanwhile here’s something that *actually* doesn’t exist: that recent ‘study’ by 11,000 scientists declaring a climate emergency.

    https://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2019/11/11/drive-bys-all-report-fake-climate-study/

    https://www.scientistswarning.org/the-alliance-of-world-scientists/
https://scientistswarning.forestry.oregonstate.edu/ Here it is (sort of)
Ha ha! “Signatures unavailable – Viewing signatures is currently unavailable. We are working on the issue.”
But wait! Check via Archive.org (wayback machine.) The ‘issue’ is that sometime in or before October they cut off access to the signatures list. “Access denied” Later they changed the message to something pretending they are trying to fix some problem. (The problem is their list is crap, and they can’t let anyone see it now.)

Here’s a comment from someone who doesn’t pull punches:

Update to below: I cannot even begin to describe what a bust this is, and how huge it is that the left actually fronted a lie of this magnitude and pushed it on everyone, through EVERY LAST OUTLET THEY OWNED PLANET WIDE, knowing full well it was a fraud. This is an earth shattering revelation that should destroy the left for time and all eternity.

The “11, 000 scientists” claiming global warming was real was a lie – they were just ordinary people who signed a page on an obscure web site.
Rush Limbaugh reported this. From what I found, the actual report by Rush is not getting linked to directly. Here it is. And here is a key quote from it:
“RUSH: Our buddies over at Power Line discovered something. Last week (I don’t know if you saw it, there was a story, and it was big out there) “that 11, 000 scientists had issued a report contending that the Earth faces a ‘climate emergency.’ NBC News … described a ‘study’ produced by an ‘international consortium of more than 11, 000 scientists.'” There’s a “screen shot of a Google search illustrates the coverage, ” a page of a Google search:

“NBC: More than 11, 000 Scientists Issue Fresh Warning: Earth Faces a Disaster.’ ‘CNN: Climate Emergency: 11, 000 Scientists Warn of Untold Suffering.'” The Guardian, Al Jazeera, U.K. Independent newspaper. It turns out there was no study, there was just a press release. And it wasn’t 11, 000 scientists, it was 11, 000 random people who put their names on a web page.” This was a total managed lie. There was no study. There were no scientists.”

My comment: And in typical leftist fashion, this lie was used to put in place carbon taxes that are now averaging $5, 000 a year for many Canadians. The carbon taxes have gas prices spiked in many parts of the globe. And it is all being used to fund a one world government hell bent on smashing Western civilization.

Look who reported this falsehood as fact: NBC, CBS, ABC, NYT, ALL OF THEM who claimed to be real, reported this hoax as real. An error that I, working alone, would not have made. I’d have at least looked into the web site that made the claim. 11, 000 signatures is a PUNY web site. That’s 0.314 of ONE PERCENT of what hits this site, and this site is not even what I’d call big. ONE THIRD OF ONE PERCENT of the traffic that hits this site was used to front a multi trillion dollar tax scam and get Burger King to cough up a soy burger.

How thin and how shallow is the scam MSM in this country, and around the world? We just found out. A few pukes can sign a web page, not even claiming to be climatologists, and hoax a global agenda. And these are the same media people posting shitty billboards of Trump in Times Square and asking us to believe them during their sham impeachment while they spin a low IQ girl into the spotlight as some sort of champion, when really, if manipulated the same way, she could be made to think a My Little Pony glitter pony was kryptonite and then burn Wal Mart down over it.

DO NOT BELIEVE THE MSM – IT IS ALL A HOAX FOLKS. A GLITTERING PATENT HOAX.

It is a standard ecological technique to have a defined transect and then monitor the changes over time that occur at that exact location. However, there is a catch to using this analytical approach.
    Transgressive system tract anyone?
Has the law of superposition been repealed?
Does anyone in ecology actually know any geology?
See my essay on carbonate depositional processes observed on the island of West Caicos, the jewel in the crown of the Turks and Caicos archipelago.
