Who knew? The Australian Bureau of Met just made last summer hotter, and history colder (again)

The cheapest way to prevent man-made global warming is stop the BOM altering the data

First the BoM had “high quality” data. Then, with fanfare, after we asked for an audit they had the miracle of ACORN circa 2011. Then early this year ACORN 2.0 was quietly birthed  with major adjustments as expert data became “more expert” but the BOM strangely didn’t want to mention that what was so good is now even better (apparently). The unofficial BOM audit team — especially Bob Fernley-Jones and Chris Gillham — have unearthed just how large the latest rewrite of history is. These men are truly independent, they have no funding, and nothing to gain either way. Please thank them for their unpaid dedication.

In this brazen latest round, even the summer of 2018 just got warmer. After all the headlines, after it was measured on supposedly modern first class equipment, even data just 18 months old is being re-fiddled. The temperatures read out on the news in January 2018? Nevermind what they said then. Those hottest ever records then were even hotter than the BoM thought, thanks to amazing new discoveries that the BOM doesn’t think are important enough to issue as a press release.

This time around the BoM have increased the warming rate by an astonishing 71%.

Who knew? Temperatures in 1910 are still getting colder. Pretty soon we’ll need to send blankets back with Dr Who so our grandparents don’t die of hypothermia.

Whopper #1: Bureau of Meteorology covertly (secretly?) made summer hotter

Part 1: Guest post by Bob Fernley-Jones

In 2011, the BoM adjusted Australia’s temperature records with the objective of making corrections for the varying measurement conditions back in time.  Controversially, they deleted all data before 1910 by ruling them unreliable (especially the notably hotter values) and by adjusting the surviving early 1900’s values generally downwards.  Amid the controversy, this program received much official praise and publicity that culminated in a government sponsored report of 2017 declaring it to be among world’s best practice. Despite that acclaim, in October 2018 they found it necessary to quietly launch a new program that further increased warming rates. Whilst there was no media release to inform the public, it was presumably well received by the IPCC.

The two adjustment programs employ a methodology known as homogenization which is described under the acronyms ACORN-SAT (2011), replaced by ACORN-SAT version 2 (hereafter v1 & v2). The discovery of what follows arose from enquiries to the BoM made last year over existing concerns with v1 data and the fortuitous archiving of BoM data and graphics that no longer exist on line (but which are easily proven).   It resulted in citizen researcher awareness of v2 despite the lack of media release and thus in recent interest to compare outcomes.

The first example below animates the changes to the all-Australia summer averages (Southern Hemisphere DJF).  This selection was made to avoid any suggestion of picking the worst case that might otherwise result from regional variability, and it is not the worst case. It is derived from a BoM online download archived in early 2018 compared with the replacing v2 copy and shows a v1 warming rate of 0.07 0C/decade to 2018 and for v2; 0.12 0C/decade to 2019. That results in an increased warming rate of an incredible 71%.

Australian Summer Maxes, animated changes from 2018-2019. Bureau of Meteorology.

 Animation by Chris Gillham (waclimate.net)

The extraordinary value in 2019 clearly has an impact on the increased v2 rate but the v1 data were also archived. This has enabled determination of the v2 rate less the 2019 value, as follows:

Australian summer maximums, changes to data 2018 - 2019.

From this, the increased warming rate v2 over v1 for 1910 through 2018 is 57% on top of that already accomplished in ‘world’s best practice’ of v1 over the original data.  Typically, cooling adjustments randomly increase downwards towards 1910 and oppositely towards 2019 (the dotted trend lines intersect and pivot roughly in the centre = minimal net adjustments around the centre).

But, it gets worse.  In Part 2, an increase in warming trend of 87% will be revealed, together with another problem where the State average data show inexplicable changes as late as in 2018 when none of its individual stations do (As also with the above but discussed in Part 2).

Man made climate change has now been confirmed!

I have often wondered if the original homogenization outputs from 1980 are still within the error bars of 2019 homogenization outputs.

No they’re not. They understand exactly what they are doing in the full knowledge that no Coalition government will ever call them to task and order an independent audit of their work.

Just as well nothing significant depends on the integrity of their work. Oh wait……

No BOZ, I believe that there is no incompetence. There is sizzling competence and unadulterated purposeful, machiavellian deceit.
Looking at the NASA / NOAA data, their published data, a matter of the historical record, Tony Heller demonstrated precisely the same malfeasance. The ‘adjustment bureau’ is no fiction.
The evident scam-at-large has become so blindingly and glaringly obvious it epitomises dumbass credulity or deliberate political embrace. The purpose, globalism by hook or by crook.
As I have often said, were the MSM suddenly have an on-the-road-to-Damascus moment, the entire ideological edifice from the UNEP/IPCC/UNFCCC on down would crumble within a few short weeks, along with the Green Death narrative peddled by the Squad, or the zero carbon claptrap spouted by hijab wearing Comrade Cindy, the minority Marxist PM of NZ, or most recently the programmed ranting at the UN of a manipulated, indoctrinated cross between Damien of the Omen and the Children of the Corn.

The adjustment, fiddling and screeching polemic, aligned with the absurd ‘impeachment’ nonsense, betrays the game.
Meanwhile, 6 countries: Phillipines, Poland, Hungary, Russia, Turkey, Pakistan have officially banned George Soros and his globalist ‘Open Society’ organisation.

If scientific endeavour and history were left to the BOM, they’d write that nothing accurate or of note ever happened before the 1900s.

In just about every scientific endeavour the discoveries of the past still stand today, yet the BOM believes that those same people couldn’t make simple temperature measurements.

What an absolute disgrace and insult they are to all the people that brought knowledge, enlightenment and technology to the world well before Australia even became a nation.

As it happens, being sick of being told of the results of someone else analysis of data, I have just started to write software to extract data from the BoM’s cdio weather data. I will eventually write functions to compare this data with ACORN.
I do make the assumption that the cdio weather data has not been molested!

The freely downloadable cdio data is one file per weather station per data set ie: highest temperatures. As such it is a lot of files.

The freely downloadable cdio data not of high resolution, ie. daily. Higher resolution is available by request and cost.

I want to automate the download of these files, but the method they ‘dish out’ these files makes that quite difficult.
At he moment it is a matter of manual search, download and extract to get these files. I am only using a few sites to develop this software. DARWIN POST OFFICE, DARWIN AIRPORT, MELBOURNE REGIONAL OFFICE, MELBOURNE (OLYMPIC PARK)

Here is the results of the two highest temperatures from DARWIN POST OFFICE. (less than 1 sec to retrieve)

Bureau of Meteorology station number: 14016
        Station name: DARWIN POST OFFICE
        Year site opened: 1869
Year site closed: 31 Dec 1962
Latitude (decimal degrees, south negative): -12.46
Longitude (decimal degrees, east positive): 130.84
Height of station above mean sea level (metres): 24
        State: NT

        17-Oct 1892 40.4
        14-Dec 1886 38.8
        28-Nov 1889 38.8
        12-Oct 1901 38.8
        13-Nov 1905 38.8
        09-Oct 1889 38.6

            Yes Kalm Keith
A fair bit of work, but it will keep me off the streets:-)
Tonight is only my third night working on it.
Apart for extracting the data from the file in a usable format, the only working function so far is find x amount of highest temps from a particular station. (Above is actually the top 3 temps from DARWIN POST OFFICE.)
The next one is a comparison were the data overlaps with an old shut down station and a new station in close locations, such as DARWIN POST OFFICE to DARWIN AIRPORT. Could prove interesting.

Great work Jack, thanks for the reply, I know Darwin has been a contentious site for some ‘manipulations’ and poor ‘adjustments’!?

To be fair and honest!, here is the top 3 for DARWIN AIRPORT, still open.

Bureau of Meteorology station number: 14015
            Station name: DARWIN AIRPORT
            Year site opened: 1941
            Year site closed:
Latitude (decimal degrees, south negative): -12.42
Longitude (decimal degrees, east positive): 130.89
Height of station above mean sea level (metres): 30
            State: NT

            18-Oct 1982 38.9
            18-Oct 2009 38.0
            11-Oct 1991 37.8
            17-Oct 2009 37.8

DARWIN AIRPORT and DARWIN POST OFFICE have an overlap of 21 years, I am now writing a fiction to compare such overlaps.

Other important information would be when the sites ‘upgraded’ from mercury to electronic measurement. I am not sure were to find this information.
Also I look forward to comparing cdio to ACORN1/2., give us a couple of weeks.

Tell me if I’m wrong. I use the eldersweather site, drawn from the BOM.

As I remember it was Ken Stewart, using BOM published stats and Excel, who blew the whistle on the BOM’s pre ACORN homogenisation. Apparently one of its faults was that it showed a substantial number of maximum recordings lower than the minimum for that day. For me that condemned the BOM’s competence, and indicated that the BOM had not even checked its work.

Prior to that time I had wondered why the detailed recording did not make better use of the technology to give a more complete account, This had been improving, and may have by that time got to ten minute reporting plus immediate reporting of sudden changes. But after the embarrassment the method of reporting changed, with multiple readings for a given time and maybe other irregularities. I had to wonder : Was this to make it impossible for lay people to do what Ken had done, i.e.run the data? In more recent times t has been fixed.

A look at the ten minute data in recent times shows some remarkable variation from one to the next. I can’t imagine that a merciry in glass thermometer would vary as much in that time. I don’t know what equipment is in use or when changes were made. It shouldn’t be hard to “homogenise” that record satisfactorily, but what of the maximum and minimum readings? Are they making a proper comparison with older technology?

            Hi Ted
Thanks for pointing out the Min/Max discrepancy, I will write a function to check this.
I could imagine in the days of manually recording, errors could be made, but in electronic recording it would be very poor programming to have such a thing to happen.
The cdio data they release, which I assume (maybe foolishly) to be undoctored. Each piece of data has a Quality Flag. I would expect inconsistencies like Min > Max would now be flagged, but who knows, expectations of Government departments lead to disappointment.
In regards to migration from mercury to electronic senors, you would expect a tested and proved algorithm to ensure the electronic senors behave the same as the previously use thermometer. Comparison of data between the two becomes worthless if this is not the case.
It’s hard to say Ted, it seems that Governments and their departments are working to some hidden agenda, because surely they can’t be that incompetent.

Yes, an undeclared agenda, but my observation says that they can be that incompetent.

For many years I have pointed to the Sydney tide gauge at NOAA Fort Denison. It showed a remarkably steady rise of 0.65 mm a year over more than 100 years. Then after 2010 they stopped updating their front page chart. Last time I looked it still terminated at 2010. Peculiar!

After a while I started searching for a more direct access to Fort Denison, and discovered what I believed to be a new website for Fort Denison.

I am sure that that website told that the tide gauge is cleaned and recalibrated every month.

I raised an alarm about this recalibration. What the H*** is going on? Sadly I don’t know where I recorded this, though I did write to various people.

I could not find that declaration when I went looking for it again, but did later see that the gauge is cleaned and calibrated monthly. “Calibration” still needs explanation.

So, why did NOAA terminate that front page chart at 2010? Could it have been because it ran contrary to their narrative? I think that somewhere in the NOAA record is a new chart showing… a hockey tick.

Some crooks are not very good at covering their tracks. But they try.

Jack – WELL DONE on deciding to do your own analysis – FINALLY ! I don’t think you’ll find any conspiracy, in fact I think you’ll find BoM will mount a vigorous defence of homogenisation. But you go for it.

You will have to decide what happens when you discover real breakpoints in a time series – a sudden up or down presumably from a site move or change but I’ll leave that to you.

Informing this hallowed blog with an alternative analysis would actually be a step forward.

It is blatantly obvious, to anyone with even one eye open, that the Australia temperature station network is totally unfit for the purpose of performing a realistic climate trend analysis.

Federation was 1901. The Federal BOM started in 1909 but recording had started decades before in every State with Stevenson Screens and even post offices and railway stations and schools. There is plenty of data as good as 1900.

The BOM inherited all those state records. There was no change in technology. So why hasn’t the BOM incorporated all the state records including the period 1901-1909 when it was a Federal legal responsibility but especially as we know that the Federation drought was so hot and dry for a decade? A hundred years later the data is still missing.

This clearly allows them to create a trend line from 1910 without showing any sign of the hottest, longest drought in Australian history. Is that so they can support the World Meteorological Association and their spinoff, the IPCC?

As the biggest island in the world and with only 2% of the world’s population lives below the Tropic of Capricorn and the best records prior to 1909, Australia can prejudice the entire world temperature before 1909 and certainly prior to satellites. It must be very tempting to leave out the Federation drought. With only 500 people and 110 years to do it and claiming world leading technology, the omission is glaring and inexplicable. Why?

Yes, I have read the story that the data is poor and unreliable and ‘biased’ towards higher temperatures and therefore apparently useless. Except that is unbelievable nonsense. It was the best in the world at the time and the only data for the Southern Hemisphere and adequately accurate at the time. Best left out then.

Then you get the usual warmist rubbish, as in the Guardian “January was Australia’s hottest month since records began“. No.

Man made GLobal warming assumes scientists have accurate records for the last few thousand years by a measure of proxies, say Michael Mann’s Hockey stick which data is his personal property and not to be shown to the public. As established in the Supreme Court of British Columbia when he agreed to show the data and then refused to do so. In passing that means Dr Tim Ball’s alleged slander that Michael Mann belongs in the State Pen not Penn State stands legally unchallenged, at least in Canada.

So when you have modern people with actual thermometers taking careful daily readings for decades in schools, post offices, railway stations and even privately in houses, that information is not to be trusted but tree ring proxies and ice cores are fine and accurate? That’s ridiculous, no matter how many times the ABC and the Guardian say so.

Australia is different to the rest of the world. Refusal to accept any data prior to 1909 is the world’s loss, a denial of our responsibility as part of the WMO and only has one explanation. It destroys the narrative, the Hockey stick and even the idea of a Global Temperature and especially man made Global Warming. The temperature history in the Southern hemisphere is nothing like the Northern hemisphere. Australia has its own independent climate. That much has always been obvious. And it’s a land of droughts and flooding rains, despite what dead kangaroo specialist Tim Flannery says.

You would think the 500 professional staff of the BOM could do better than this in 110 years. Even private individuals can do better for no pay, government superannuation and holidays. Sell the BOM, the ABC/SBS and the CSIRO. $50Million a week for misinformation is a disgrace.

Thanks for the reminder of how Australia, in the past, was a country that valued the little things in life like just doing your job properly and being diligent at least 97% of the time.

The state of the public services today is disturbing in that the primary focus is on “getting in”, enjoying the salary and perks and doing what’s deemed necessary to stay there.

There’s something seriously unscientific about making seemless temperature records from sources that should only ever be examined as separate records.

In no way is it acceptable to blend and homogenise temperatures from mercury thermometers, tree rings, satellite measurements and electronic sampling.

To blend these is not science but an incredible abuse of public trust.

There is one positive from this. The behaviour of the government institutions in this matter is clear and suggests that similar skullduggery is probably at play throughout our “government”.

Why is there no management and political accountability or has accountability been homogenised too.

2/3 of the staff at a University are not teachers. They are political, politically correct and the enforcers of race, religion, thinking and money. Take the millionaire salaried Vice Chancellor of James Cook University when the head of Physics dares to express an opinion on the subject in which he is the expert. Fired.

The public service are worse, climbing the greasy pole by agreeing with everyone else, even and especially the career scientists. One wrong word and you are shown the door.

Public Trust? We have none in the public servants who dominate our political systems, our councils and our scientitic organizations and our universities. They stifle debate, declare that Australia is stolen, that we should pull down statues and get rid of Captain Cook and John Batman and anyone who did anything to make this country what it is today.

Our public institutions are a disgrace, all so anxious to please each other and to pull down politicians who disagree. One hundred genders. Reparations. Destroy the past. A second parliament for a race to apologise for being racist.

And over it all, Climate Change, obeisance to the UN and apologies to China for all the pollution our factories have generated before we shut them down by punishing ourselves.

At what point is there a popular revolt as there is in the US, UK, Brazil, Hungary, Italy, Poland, France and now Holland with farmers on tractors protesting the protesting. It has to stop. Zero carbon is zero life.

I keep hearing about some bloke called Zero Carbon Bill – he sounds dull and lifeless, not my kind of buddy.

Meanwhile, at school: “A new wave of posters and stickers promoting a recently-launched white nationalist group have been spotted at the University this week… A small group of students staged a protest on campus this morning”, fresh from last week’s kreta klimate krisis protest I guess.

Tony Heller has an excellent video on Homogenization.

    https://realclimatescience.com/2019/08/new-video-how-homogenization-destroys-climate-science/

Essentially, by mixing modern day data sets heavily influenced by UHI effects, and deleting older temperature records that showed hotter temps in the past, the result is a “cooler past” and a “warmer present”, which is exactly what they wanted to see in the first place.

In net effect, they created an alternate reality more closely aligned with their agenda. Creative, sneaky, agenda driven, data manipulation.

One could as well mix past mortality rates with present day rates, and plot that against postal rates and show that the Post Office is killing people. Same lie, different data set.

    “Figures lie, and Liars Figure”.

The guy doing the food garden at the top of Galeries Lafayette in the middle of Paris said that the big advantage of his site was the earlier and longer growing season. Even a strawberry knows about UHI.

Check how the clusters form for mean max upper percentile at an old rural site without much alteration. See how the lines bend at the end for an old urban site. You can play hockey with the 95th+ percentile reading from Sydney Obs. With Newcastle Nobbys you can only play cricket…and that with a bendy handle.

Australia is a huge political entity. Weather stations are scattered based mostly on where people are, not where weather is. (Weather doesn’t cluster where it can catch a wave, raise sheep or get phone reception. It’s everywhere.)

A temperature based on min/max is already a feeble if not useless statistic (because cloud, duh). But a “national” temperature where results from unrelated climate zones can neutralise or enhance one another chaotically is a truly useless statistic, even by statistic standards of uselessness.

I have no prob with the possibility of some overall warming in recent decades, so I have no position to defend. Temps can only go up or down, If up, big deal. But think about it: a mild year in Perth cools down a scorcher year in Newcastle. A cloudless Oodnadatta contributes summer heat to an overcast Cairns. Some extra afternoon cloud in Darwin reduces the max for Hobart. Why? Because these climatically unrelated places fall within the bounds of the vast Commonwealth of Australia.

    It’s exquisitely silly.

There is in fact no basis in statistical sampling theory for the area averaging used in these regional and global temperatures. The method was invented in the 1980s by the leading alarmists Wigley and Jones.

Sampling theory say you must take a random sample of the population. Area averaging is the opposite of random sampling. Different thermometers get different weights depending on how many there are in the grid cell. Homogenization makes it even worse, much worse.

        Hi David,

A good example is Alice Springs which is located almost at the centre of Australia. Back in 1910 its currently published area weighting was 8.8% of Oz (huge). However, as new stations progressively opened, its share dropped and today it is down to 3.3% out of the 104 existing stations used for national averaging (still big). However, in 1956, Giles in outback eastern Western Australia opened with a share of 6.6% and it is now 6.1%, almost twice as great as Alice Springs.

Another interesting aspect is that Giles is warmer than Alice Springs by 1.6 degrees C in terms of Tmin standard climatology (1961-1990 averages).

Where is the highest recorded temperature in ACORN V2? I thought pre V1, it used to be Oodnadatta?
Forget Cloncurry and Burke because everyone knows before 1910 people were too dumb to read a thermometer!
Then with ACORN V1 I heard it was Albany WA, you know that town on the southern coast facing those ferociously hot Roaring Forties??
But last I heard that miraculously changed (V2? lost 6 degrees – must have been a wind change!) and now it is somewhere near Carnarvon??

CoIA … ACORN 2 has returned the hottest ever day title to Oodnadatta. ACORN 1 listed Albany as having Australia’s hottest ever day in 1933 (51.2C vs 44.8C originally and adjusted back to 49.5C in ACORN 2).

ACORN 2 has made Oodnadatta the hottest day ever recorded in Australia (51.1C on 2 January 1960 vs unadjusted raw temp of 50.7C). ACORN 2 lists Carnarvon as having Australia’s second hottest ever day in 1953 (51.0C vs 47.7C originally).

Further data at http://www.waclimate.net/acorn2/index.html, which has downloads that might make the software plans by jack – higher in this post – a bit easier.

The data is not data and the process is not science. It is confirmation bias done the worst possible way. Where you decide first what results you want then generate the number set that gives you those results. Then make it appear as if the number set was generated from actual measurements by some super secret (unpublished) method.

It is not even as good as witchcraft combined with old wives tales and astrology. I would much rather depend upon the color bands on Woolly Worms where light brown is warmer winter and dark brown is colder winter. For which the proportion and position of each color determines what kind of winter you are going to have. At least the Woolly Worms have a much stronger connection to the actual weather than do the climate alarmists.

I would just like to thank the people reading the thermometers around 1970, clearly the golden years of meteorology, given no ‘adjustment’ was required to their readings.

BoM should analyse what these people were doing differently so that they can apply the same rigour, that clearly existed for those 2-3 years around 1970, to the way they are currently taking readings, so that they will no longer need to adjust modern data going forward….

I’ll be showing my age/era with this, but hey, I’m a rich old po’ middle-aged white male with no dependants and no mortgage – I don’t give a hoot!

The first LP album I bought with my own hard-earned cash from my part-time after-school job was Crime Of The Century by Supertramp (you either loved ’em or didn’t) and the 2nd was Royal Scam by Steely Dan. Kind of gives you an idea of not only my musical tastes at the time but also my philosophical outlook on the world, ie. the criminals and scamsters running the show. American Prayer by The Doors, Caravanseri by Santana, and Crisis? What Crisis? by (again) Supertramp soon followed. Hey, it was the 70s, I was a teenage surfer with a driver’s license and a Morrie Minor and I loved road-trip music (cassettes on a portable tape-player!). OK, maybe I am old 🙂

While some people have recently used the simile of the Trojan horse to describe the takeover of modern politics by the Climate Change meme, I feel that it may divert attention from the real issue.

We could get fixated by the horse and lose sight of the main issue: The subversion of democracy.

I would suggest that we not use the analogy of the Trojan horse.

There may however be a way to use it effectively.

All we have to do is imagine that horse stuffed full of U.S. hundred dollar bills (useable anywhere) and small gold bars.

That image would convey the true meaning of CAGW, explain the hypervigilant, histrionic media output and make voters think about why the U.N. and EU actually exist.

Unless we can prove that the past was lowered to raise the present, then theoretically the world is coming to an end in 12 years.

It maybe better to accept their dodgy data in the knowledge that there is a natural explanation for this warming trend, besides CO2. We could say the sun has been exceptionally warm since the mid 1970s and although its quiet now, there is still a lag because of the oceans.

Turn right at the taxi way
And then feed jet fuel to the engines again
              To proceed to the terminal
That directs jet exhausts straight at the BOM Weather station.
              About 150 meters away.
And as you say there has been a lot more traffic in recent years.

              Is ‘dispersed’ by that distance.

Mean does not equal average, Peter, even in the context of data.

Average is when you add up all samples, then divide by the total number of samples.

          Example:

          Samples:- 1, 2, 3, 4, 90
          Add together = 100
          Divide by 5 = 20
          Average is 20.

Mean is when you place all samples in order and pick the middle one in the sample range

          Example:

          Samples:- 1, 2, 3, 4, 90
          Middle one is 3
Mean of sample group is 3

As you can see they are not the same. The usefulness depends on what data you are attempting to analysis and what you are attempting to discover.

Now the other important thing you need to understand is in the examples above we are detailing with a data set of 1, 2, 3, 4, 90. What they prove is open to discussion. However, when you decide that “Hey, I don’t like what they prove, let us change them to 2, 2, 3, 4, 89, despite the fact that average is still 20 and mean is still 3, you are CHANGING THE RAW DATA TO SUIT YOUR PURPOSES.

You might think that is no real harm, but try doing the same trick with your next tax return and see how far you get.

Also, before you ask, I am not Mean. I am Horrible Person. Also a crustacean. Subtle but important difference.

you can download all the raw data from all the stations at any time. The ACORN dataset is different, it uses a subset of all stations, and is adjusted to smooth out differences when a station is moved (Darwin is a good example). The ACORN data is used for climate and can also be downloaded (as was done here at the to of this post). Interestingly both the raw data and the ACORN data are used in the same model, one for weather and the other for climate.

Yep – the base of the model is the same – gridded cells around 200K a side, for climate, and 5k for weather. This is why, as an example clouds are so difficult, as they only represent a fraction of a cell.

The weather Model uses the original values* as stated

*Some adjustments are made for missing values (ie station missed reporting) or abnormal values – more that 2 std Deviations away from nearest neighbour (ie calibration error)

Does anyone know the origin of CO2 makes weather more ‘extreme‘?
Who announced this and when and how does it work?
In the abscence of any proof that CO2’s hothouse effect is real (no warm hot air over the equator), what is the explanation for the absolute prophecy of
increased weather extremes? Surely there is some logic?

    Then

How does CO2 make Climate Change if it has not changed the air temperature?
and even the alleged change in an average is tiny.

How does CO2 make the oceans warmer (say around the Great Barrier Reef) if it has not changed the air temperature?

Then how does CO2 make bushfires? Or make them ‘more extreme’?

How does CO2 make more hurricanes/cyclones/tempests/tropical storms?

And why does the extra 50% in CO2 matter so much, as against the basic 100% in 1900? Is it special CO2, pollution CO2, oil/gas/coal CO2?

If there was no CO2, apart from extinguishing all life on earth in a year, would the weather be any different?
Does anyone really believe that only CO2 is keeping the world warm with its tiny narrow band of CO2 absorption in the infra red?

Where in all the ‘peer reviewed’ science publications is all this explained. After all, why else would there be a ‘Climate Emergency’ and
$20Trillion spent to stop it and say 500,000 windmills and governments promising to crippled only Western democracies and the UN demanding $100Billion a year.

Where is ‘The Science’? Or shouldn’t we ask?

After all, Dr. Michael Mann, the IPCC hero who proved sudden apocalyptic man made warming and that the Middle Ages warming, the Roman warming, the Little Ice Age did not exist (even though we have the pictures and records of skating on the Thames) has refused to release his data.

He claims he was accused of criminal fr*ud when it was just funny. He made it a trial of his honesty as a science. All he had to do to prove slander was reveal the data and he agreed to do so and then would not do so. By his own actions he stands convicted in court of fraud by implication of this refusal. What other reason was there not to reveal his working data?

When does this allegation of any scientific basis to man made Global Warming fall apart?

How can you deny something which is not true? His hockey stick was a fr*ud, a lie. How are we to believe otherwise?

BREXIT first. Then the whole money machine of carbon indulgences, crippled cars, agriculture, manufacturing and in Australia, the world’s highest electricity prices with the world’s cheapest production. It’s all about the middle men.

I know the extreme weather thingie was live in the 2001 (first) National Climate Assessment, because I wrote about it. They used two computer models — the Canadian and the Hadley. The idea is that increasing the energy in the atmosphere will shift the probability distribution, increasing the extremes. No observational support but they do not care. To them models are science, the whole science.

        Thanks.

So that’s just a wild hypothesis then without a shred of proof or science logic. No particular paper or proof or actual theory, just conjecture that a statistical distribution of storms becomes dramatically wider as it shifts very slightly. I would argue with equal lack of evidence that if hurricanes really became more frequent, they would be equally likely to be smaller, not bigger. And in doing so the number of extreme storms would drop, not rise.

In decades I have read nothing to support this conjecture of increased and more extreme events but it is now the hallmark of Climate Change, quoted as a physical law, established science, fact. Now in hindsight it is completely wrong. My equally silly conclusion fits the facts better, more smaller storms.

Our science free Australian Of the Year Flannery was so lacking in logic and desperate to scare profoundly with his unique kangaroo wisdom that he announced our regular droughts would be both much longer and more frequent. Does no one think these things through?

However I do not read any qualified science commentator rubbishing extreme events. I guess it’s hard to attack something no one ever proved but everyone believes. It is a bigger lie than Carbon Dioxide rapid warming or rapid sea level rise, a meter a year according to the former ABC Science guy Robyn Williams without even a simple check on reality.

How is it that Climate Change is always a disaster. Consider that mankind relies almost totally on rain, a warmer world would mean more evaporation and that means more rain. What’s not to like?

As all plants and thus all life is made only from CO2, H2O and sunlight as carbohydrates, why isn’t more CO2, more H2O and a warmer planet a good thing. And after 110 years of rapid sea level rise, 31 years after the dire warnings, where exactly is there a problem?

The world cannot be on it’s last 12 years to live, for the fourth time. Surely not. And how did anyone come up with 12?

The same year the UN-IPCC pontificated about signatories to the Paris Accord Target happening by 2030, i.e. being put into national laws before that time.

So basically from that evidence, it’s on the UN’s calendar to initialize moves to become the World Government by or before 2030 and to complete the process by 2050.

A friend and I were playing a “what if” scenario discussion this morning thinking about th erising hard left and the constantly collapsing power infrastructure.

The end result we both agreed on as possible was :

                – Most australians are too ignorant or indifferent to realize whats going on until its too late

                – That its likely the eventual aim was to slowly collapse Australia economically and socially to make it like California/SA.

                – That in its neutered/collapsed state of affairs, that the govt in “desperation” would invite in UN “peacekeeping troops” who would never leave…and Australia might become a true UN vassal state effectively under UN (communist) rule.

                – That it was also likely that guerilla warfare would break out against the UN “peacekeeping” force ( probably successfully, given Australians reputation in war time. )

So it wasnt a pleasant experience, and hope it never gets to that state of affairs.

If one checks this graph below against the actual yearly summaries, we find that every yearly average max mean appears to be adjusted up.
For instance, according to the summaries, 2000, 2001 and 2011 were below the average yearly mean. Now only 2000 is below and appears to be adjusted by about +0.2C.
1914 has been adjusted from +0.5C down to +1.2C.

    http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/change/#tabs=Tracker&tracker=timeseries

For example, here’s the summary for 2011.

Getting out of the UN will achieve very little. The main problems are within; the voters and our two main political parties. Too many Australians are still asleep, indifferent or couldn’t care less as to what is happening around us locally. While the cost of living is climbing rapidly in an almost recessive economy the squeeze might eventually wake people up. It will be interesting to see what happens after that. We need a new party to leap frog the LNP and ALP+Greens, both of which have become useless.

What is interesting today in global politics is how we see people in the west wildly protesting to change the system from capitalism to totalitarian socialism. Whilst people in Hong Kong, who are now being pulled back into the communist regime are violently protesting to retail capitalism and freedom.

One thing is certain, those people in Hong Kong know exactly what happens inside a totalitarian socialist state, whereas young people in the west are completely clueless and remain captive to the fake propaganda spin of a green nirvana where work is optional, a high living wage and housing is provided to all and everyone gets to party and smoke drugs all day.

This global struggle between freedom and totalitarian control has one sided support from the UN, who desperately want full control along with the money and power that it delivers. The UN clearly understands that only capitalism and democracy together = freedom, because freedom is at the individual’s level and capitalism allows the individual to determine their own fate and prosperity. Ironically, it seems that the fate of freedom in the west now resides with Donald Trump, who is its last political ambassador.

The old people of HK have resigned themselves to the takeover by a totalitarian state, which was decided before these young protestors were even born. The UK parliament is in disarray as the world slips into a deep recession, democracy appears to be in tatters.

Here in WV USA we are having near record warmth. But out in Montana they are having super cold with four, I say four, feet of snow Sun- Mon. Of course this too is blamed on global warming — messing up the jet stream don’t you know. All bad weather is now claimed to be due to AGW.

This adjustment was somewhat predictable. For those people who have examined the online data, one thing that stood out were the February figures where almost no warming was evident. I recall pointing out this stat on a discussion thread on a BOM temperature report to the die hard alarmists on The Conversation a few years back (Before I was banned) and knew these numbers would have to go. After all, if summer isn’t getting much hotter and only the other seasons are warming then it becomes a good news story.

A comforting thought : Australians you are not alone in this matter . The rest of the western world is doing exactly the same thing . Under the pretext of homogenation all data from the past , before 1950 , is downgraded and any new coldrecords are erased under the pretext of socalled doubtful measurements . Last year I noticed that here in Holland official temperature-records were changed upward within 24 hours , when they were not consistent with the global warming narrative . This same thing happens all over europe and the usa , like other bloggers are confirming nearly daily .It is about time we should call this eufemistic climate-change with the proper wording : Data-change and data-manipulation .This is executed by civil-servants fully paid by the government , in reality by the tax-payer , and for instance here in Holland and Germany on a lifelong salary . Nearly untouchable even when they commit the worst falseness in word and writing and generally covered by a legal system fully in control of climate-zealots . Even the heads of states are fully out of control and heading our societies into the abyss and poverty . Pray that common sense may overturn this .

30 Sept: WorldNetDaily: Top climate scientist breaks ranks with ‘consensus’
‘Our models are Mickey-Mouse mockeries of the real world’
    By Art Moore
In his book “The Global Warming Hypothesis is an Unproven Hypothesis,” (Dr. Mototaka) Nakamura explains why global mean temperatures before 1980 are based on “untrustworthy data.”…
Last week, a group of 500 scientists and professionals in climate science wrote a letter to the United Nations contending there is no climate crisis and that spending trillions on the issue is “cruel and imprudent.”…

Richard Lindzen, an emeritus professor of atmospheric sciences at MIT who has published more than 200 scientific papers, says in a video produced by PragerU “it seems that the less the climate changes, the louder the voices of the climate alarmists get.”
He pointed out that the United Nations International Panel on Climate Change, the IPCC, admitted in its 2007 paper that the “long-term prediction of future climate states is not possible.”…
So, why are so many people panic-stricken, including some who are warning the world has only 12 years left to save itself?
He points to politicians, activists and ***media…

nothing at ABC on Nakamura, nor on the letter from the 500 sceptical scientists; the following is the single result that showed for “Richard Lindzen”:

10min to 12min54sec: LINDZEN: 2 degrees is a political number. 1.5 is a political number. this has nothing to do with science…it has to do with global governance…i don’t know why they go aong with it… I don’t know what to make of this…all your questions are predicated on the reality of this and I don’t think that is the correct assumption…

Is the St Greta phonomenon a managed stage play?

    Translated from Dutch:

    https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=nl&u=http://www.novini.nl/greta-thunberg-professionele-mediahype-van-grote-spelers/&prev=search

“If you look at the impression that is being created in the mainstream media, you would think that the Greta Thunberg phenomenon spreads more or less naturally, supported only by the power of conviction and dedication, to the world. The American president Franklin D. Roosevelt, however, already knew: “Nothing in politics happens by chance. And if something happens, then it was planned that way. ”It goes without saying that Greta Thunberg is an instrument of politics.

“The misconception starts earlier. Namely with the assumption that the Fridays for Future movement was created by the young Swedish. That’s wrong, the plan is a few years older. While the media hype around Greta Thunberg erupted in 2018, the Plant for the Planet Foundation held a global youth summit three years earlier in Bonn. An outcome of this meeting can be found on the website climastrike.net, where it is called: “At the Global Youth Summit in May 2015 we came up with the idea of a global school strike for climate protection.” It then took three years for people to the background had found Greta Thunberg as the appropriate spokeswoman, then attributing her the authorship of the idea for the school strikes.

    “The people in the background

“Who could be in the background with those people becomes clear when you find out who set up the Plant for the Planet Foundation and equipped it with the necessary resources. Those are enlightening enough the Club of Rome and the German Marshall Fund.

    “Club of Rome

“The Club of Rome was founded by David Rockefeller and gained worldwide fame when it published the book ‘Limits to Growth’ in 1972. Two central predictions in particular impressed. Firstly, the prediction that due to the death of forests around the turn of the millennium, there would no longer be any forest in Europe. Secondly, the prognosis that the planet’s oil reserves would have been used ten years later. In reality, the forest surface in Europe increased and more oil was found annually than consumed worldwide. However, these failure forecasts apparently do not detract from the name of the Club of Rome. In the mainstream, this club serves as a benchmark for environmental protection.

    “German Marshall Fund

“The establishment of the German Marshall Fund is attributed to the former German Chancellor Willy Brandt, but here too you will soon come across Rockefeller, who has been the president of the organization. In addition to Rockefeller’s Chase Manhattan Bank, other well-funded American clubs are popping up, such as the Aspen Institute and the Carnegie Foundation. Nothing to the detriment of Willy Brandt, but besides such big names his influence would have been rather small.

    “Plant for the Planet Foundation

“Just as Willy Brandt was used as a calling card for the German Marshall Fund, the Plant for the Planet Foundation used the same system as later around Greta and put a child first: Felix Finkbeiner. According to the official lecture in 2007, Finkbeiner set up the foundation at the age of nine. There are other similarities with Greta Thunberg. Just like her, he teaches with prominent figures such as Prince Albert of Monaco or the Hollywood film star Harrison Ford. And just as Greta chats with Pope Fransiscus, Felix delivered a speech to the United Nations.

“Felix Finkbeiner in Mexico, 2018 (photo: Victoria Kolbert)
But let’s face it: somehow, the foundation story must have turned out differently. A nine-year-old cannot set up a foundation himself. His father Frithjof must have helped with it. He is closely involved in the Club of Rome (what a coincidence!).

    Alte Mu

“Greta Thunberg’s Fridays for Future movement is closely linked to the Plant for the Planet Foundation on their German website. Both organizations are intimately entangled. In the imprint of the Friday for Future website there is one Ronja Thein with an address in Kiel. However, Mrs Thein does not seem to exist. When inquiring, reference is made to safety considerations. However, the address in Kiel is known as that of a left-alternative ‘cultural center’ (read: squat) with the name ‘Alte Mu’. Numerous leftist organizations are located there. When asked for a bank account number for FFF, reference is made to the bank account of the friend of Plant for the Planet Foundation.

24 Sept: ConservationInternational: Climate Week: Youth, morality and the fate of the Amazon
By Bruno Vander Velde, senior communications director for Conservation International
If this year’s UN Climate Summit is remembered for anything, it might be the blistering speech that climate activist Greta Thunberg delivered Monday to world leaders in New York…

            Science, policy and the church
A handful of scientists, an indigenous leader, a government minister and two Catholic priests walk into a conference room.
This actually happened Monday. The resulting discussion, at a side event to the climate summit, was a heady mix of science, politics and philosophy aimed at addressing the 2015 encyclical published by Pope Francis, “Laudato Si,” which staked out the Catholic Church’s positions on ecology and climate change.

One speaker at Monday’s discussion — one of three globally renowned scientists on the panel — started the conversation in no uncertain terms.
“We in the scientific community feel that the overarching message that the Pope shared [in Laudato Si] is that we are threatening the very creation of God,” said ***Johan Rockström, chief scientist at Conservation International and co-directorof the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.
“It is the same thing as humans threatening the stability of the Earth’s systems.”
And the systems of the Amazon, Rockström’s counterparts noted, have never been in graver peril…

Fixing the Amazon, said Thomas Lovejoy — a distinguished conservation biologistoften referred to as the “godfather of biodiversity” — must be a collective effort. “It’s not reasonable to expect Amazonian countries to pay for everything that has been done,” he told the panel. “Wealthiercountries must contribute.”…

“Suddenly the Earth is under so much pressure that we need to redefine the global commons,” Rockström said. No longer simply Brazil’sor Bolivia’s or Colombia’s problem, he said, the health of the Amazon — indeed, all of Earth’s remaining natural ecosystems — is “everyone’s preoccupation.”
Rockström quoted Laudato Si: “Humanity still has the ability to work together in building our common home.”…

            It’s an emergency
At a panel discussion earlier in the day, alongside the ***Club of Rome, Rockström helped to launch the Planetary Emergency Action Plan, making the case for declaring a planetary emergency and providing policy options for addressing climate change, biodiversity loss and human well-being.
Calling for an emergency may sound drastic, Rockström said, but it was necessary.
“The kind of incremental change that governments are currently suggesting is just not taking the planetary change seriously. And we will fail to secure the future of humanity if this behavior continues.”
“We do not take a declaration of planetary emergency lightly. It’s such a serious step that we can only do it once.”…

Yeah, but, the children won’t stand for it! The poor possums get worn out just being chauffeur-driven to the protests – that’s why they all sit down, they’re knackered, worn out – no stamina, know nothing.

This could be a tongue-in-cheek prank or for real: Pope Francis promotes ‘Chrislam‘ with new stylised logo combining a cross and a crescent new moon. ‘Jim Stone’ (who runs the above, linked site) is anti-AGW/CCC/UN, anti-Pelosi, pro-Trump, also has a pic of Angry Girl with Arnie Terminator – you know when the world’s two worst actors get together for a photo op the whole shebang falls apart. Talking of:

              https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/breaking-vatican-police-raid-secretariat-of-state-looking-for-evidence-of-financial-corruption

VATICAN CITY, October 1, 2019: “The operation was ‘linked to complaints’ made last summer by the Vatican Bank, officially known as the Institute for Works of Religion (IOR), and the Office of the General Auditor about a number of financial transactions ‘carried out over time'”. Banking is God’s Work? Of course, it’s the Club of Rome.

The big problem these manipulators face is the lack of effective actors. While the globo agenda has massive funds and resources, good acting is one thing they can’t just buy without employing known professionals. Even the ultra-rehearsed Thunberg with her rigidly controlled scripting has trouble making tears, despite the face-twisting and dry sobbing.

Growing concern over central banks, and the Fed especially, resulted in an inexplicably successful off-Broadway musical glorifying Alexander Hamilton. If you’ve seen clips of the all-black cast rapping and dancing this utter drek you’ll know just how bad bad can be. Yet the internet and press were swamped with interviews and promos of the talentless author/star, to such a degree that anybody thinking to criticise him or the work (if he was, in fact, the author) would have been refused the salt-shaker at any dinner party east of Chicago. Even Mike Pence bravely made his way through hissing crowds so he too could be bored.

One solitary thing in our favour: as all know from post Christmas lunches, you can only do so much with ham.

    A Royal Commission to determine:

    * Who should be sacked (for those found to be incompetent);
    * Who should be charged (for those found to be engaged in malfeasance); and

Now that I think about it a little more. This could become the blueprint for inquiries into each and every government boondoggle.

A message needs to be sent and reinforced to “public servants” about the gravity of their actions (and inactions) and the consequences of not taking them seriously while benefiting from public monies.

Question Bob Fernley-Jones: when you write “they deleted all data before 1910” am I to understand that the physical records were simply ignored but can still be found or, more congruous with the meaning of “deleted”, that the documents were secured and sent to data destruction facilities around the country?

    70

      TdeF

So the data in 1909 was far inferior to the technology of 1910? What nonsense from the BOM. They have had 110 years to capture this data.

        TdeF,

I keep writing that under the Meteorological Act 1955 (Cwth) and the Public Service Act 1999 (Cwth) it is an offence for any public servant to not securely store or to delete any primary scientific data collected under an Act of Parliament.

Punishments and penalties are rather severe, and public servants are not protected from prosecution in any way.

Therefor all the collected data should exist so that it can be re-processed properly with protocols such as “quality control”, which is an ongoing issue in the ACORN-Sat databases.

      Serp,

Sorry, deleted was a bad choice of words, discarded or omitted (for the purpose of ACORN-SAT) would have been better. The “raw” data are still available although there is some doubt about just how “raw” those data are.

That’s a tad better than Canada with deletion of inconvenient data according to this:

Off topic but continuing on the iceberg story from yesterday, “Known as D28, the giant iceberg is roughly the size of urban Sydney, Australia, covering 1,636 square kilometres (632 square miles) and reaching about 210 metres deep (689 feet). Altogether, it amounts to some 315 billion tonnes of ice – the largest iceberg produced by the Amery ice shelf in more than half a century.”

While the articles say this is nothing to do with Climate Change, that has never stopped anyone. The point I note is the depth of 210 metres, which means 10% or 21 metres out of the water. That is 210/4000 or 5% of the depth of the Southern ocean which can reach 7km but often around 4km. So while it is a large iceberg in area, it is nothing like the solid 3500metre ice thickness of Antarctica itself. This was really a relatively thin shelf which broke. The tallest ice bergs have been 300 metres high and thus nearly 3km deep.

Still who needs a perspective when someone can claim with rapidly rising temperatures as proven by the BOM, Antarctica is falling apart. And we are not to blame China or India. Or for the plastic straws and bags in the ocean. Climate Change has nothing to do with reality.

I wonder if any of the proponents of Climate Change can say how the last 150 years of Climate Change has affected them in their lifetimes. I mean it’s not rocket science. This is supposed to be making life impossible. So in what way have their lives becomes impossible, full of fear, lack of something?

Or are they like Tim Flannery, sunning on the beach in front of his riverside house in the mouth of the Hawkesbury river. Or Al Gore with his waterfront apartment in San Francisco. Or Barack Obama at the waterfront on Martha’s Vinyard on a near island in the Atlantic with a private walk to his private beach? Or even angry Donald Sutherland in Florida, at one of his three houses to which he commutes by air, railing against Climate Change. And why can’t Leonado Di Caprio actually meet anyone in LA or SF instead of flying to Sicily for the Google meeting.

Don’t do as I do, do as you deplorables are told. Barbra Streisand flying her dogs across the Atlantic with staff to attend her concert. All angry at people flying, eating meat and Donald Trump. Deniers all

As I understand it the manual adjustments and their rationale, plus overlapping original data across sensor changes and moves is not fully available which means the model can’t be fully replicated or validated. Only if the model can be completely duplicated using the published material can this be considered science. Maybe V2 is different in which case I might consider checking it but somehow I doubt it.

Jim Dehlsen was one of the original wind carpetbaggers and rent seekers. His father was Danish, if that means anything… He founded Zond Corporation in California, a wind turbine outfit heavily reliant on tax credits. Unable to refinance, it was sold cheaply to a gang called Enron in 1996. Enron had a powerful lobby team in Washington and was one of the major forces promoting the renewables scam. It went bust in 2001 after booking unrealised future profits in a huge accounting scandal. Next GE took over the wind division…

Having cashed out, James Dehlsen’s latest schtick involves using underwater turbine technology designed to harness marine currents to generate electricity, operating out of Santa Barbara.

Last time I wrote on this subject (ACORN-Sat II adjustment) I predicted they would have to adjust again soon (cool the past)as the current measured temperatures refuse to warm enough to keep up with the trend expected from their artificially steepened graph.

And so it comes to pass.

It is now even more the case that the adjustments are significantly larger than the global warming signal claimed to exist in the data.

The BOM historical temperature series has for some time not been fit for purpose, this latest adjustment makes it even more so.

Its time for private meteorologists to construct a new Australian temperature series from long-term stations away from the urban spread UHI effects.

But can the original measured data (unadjusted) be obtained, or has it already been destroyed as suggested by some?

    Hi all,

Does the BOM make the raw data available? It would be interesting to have a look at the types of data massage that is going into the current data sets.

    Cheers,
    Josh

Raw temperature and rainfall data can be accessed via this BOM link

      http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/data/?ref=ftr

However one needs to know the weather station one wants to see . & then request the maximum temperature or minimum temperature, or rainfall. It’s multistep process for each station.

When one has the data from the selected weather station one can then access the BOM’s own notes about that station..These notes are what Ken is using to check compliance with BOM’s own guidelines.
Which i why assessing each station takes time and is slow.
But the info is all there !

Yes ED. Michael and his team of citizen investigators unearthed. researched and verified most of this information in the last couple of years. It is all on his site and he’s currently listing it all again Although you won’t read or hear about it from the ABC and various other MSM, there have been ongoing investigations in the USA for many years with Charles Ortel being a leading player. He and Michael have been exchanging information for some time. Michael is providing the verifying links to the quoted source documents as he sets out the various reports he will be sending to the FBI.

Our US election is doing a good job of exposing the watermelons among the climate change floggers.
Absent these used-to-be-secret socialists, the fruit patch is fairly empty.

If the Australian BOM was not operating in the interests of the Church of ‘Climate Change’, there would be calls now for a Royal Commission into the running of the BOM.

OK: clearly there is no reason (other than political, deliberate deception of the public) to adjust weather records retrospectively. what do we do to get a Royal Commission happening? Who has firm copies of records before and after, are there whistleblowers who will come forward voluntarily?

Would it be possible for a few people in possession of some facts and comparisons, to create a downloadable form letter requesting a Parliamentary Enquiry? This could be for example downloaded from Jo Nova’s website by subscribers and sent to our members of parliament.

Why don’t we take some action?
Can we fix this – yes we can!
