Extinction Rebellion’s real target are old English men

Exstinction Rebellion Logo

Extinction Rebellion leader says its not about climate — it’s about toxic white European racist heterosexists, especially old Brits

Basden o-chosen-one is here to save us from our delusions — if you thought fossil fuels caused climates to break, you are in denial. Storms and floods are really a symptom of the toxic infection that is European civilization!

Apparently even the IPCC are denialists that the real cause of bad weather is old white English men.

I’m so grateful to Stuart Basden, one of the first 15 XR founders, for explaining what XR is really about. Thanks to Charles the moderator at WUWT, and Chris D for sending the Medium essay.

Share this link widely I say, the more people who read this the better.

Extinction Rebellion isn’t about the Climate

by Stuart Basden

…  I’m here to say that XR isn’t about the climate. You see, the climate’s breakdown is a symptom of a toxic system of that has infected the ways we relate to each other as humans and to all life. This was exacerbated when European ‘civilisation’ was spread around the globe through cruelty and violence (especially) over the last 600 years of colonialism, although the roots of the infections go much further back.

Feel the hate.

As Europeans spread their toxicity around the world, they brought torture, genocide, carnage and suffering to the ends of the earth. Their cultural myths justified the horrors, such as the idea that indigenous people were animals (not humans), and therefore God had given us dominion over them. This was used to justify a multi-continent-wide genocide of tens of millions of people. The coming of the scientific era saw this intensify, as the world around us was increasingly seen as ‘dead’ matter — just sitting there waiting for us to exploit it and use it up. We’re now using it up faster than ever.

Thought I was joking about old English men?

Euro-Americans violently imposed and taught dangerous delusions that they used to justify the exploitation and reinforced our dominance, while silencing worldviews that differed or challenged them. The UK’s hand in this was enormous, as can be seen by the size of the former British empire, and the dominance of the English language around the world. There is stark evidence that everyday racial bias continues in Britain, now, today. It’s worth naming some of these constructed delusions that have been coded into societies and institutions around the world:

The delusion of white-supremacy… blah…etc

The delusion of patriarchy,…  Eurocentrism, The delusions of hetero-sexism/heteronormativity and class hierarchy

Note the reasoning: “If you don’t agree with me you are a brain-dead idiot”:

To focus on the climate’s breakdown (the symptom) without focusing attention on these toxic delusions (the causes) is a form a denialism. Worse, it’s a racist and sexist form of denialism…

Make that a racist, sexist brain-dead idiot.

It appears this self hate is what happens when civilizations get too comfortable. There’s no cause to fight for anymore, all the big problems are solved, like dysentery, famine  and small pox. There’s too much food, too much education, too much welfare, but not enough time to remember we are the luckiest generation on Earth.

Before I read this article, I thought XR was a movement I could support and believe in. Now, frankly, I’m just confused….

XR describes itself as movement that is ‘participatory, decentralised, and inclusive’. Yet here your are, ‘pulling rank’ in order to tell people what messages they should/shouldn’t be communicating….

XR purports to be an ‘apolitical network’ that wants to go ‘beyond politics’. Yet this article manifestly politicises the issue…..

It has always been about control of the untrustworthy citizenry. Fear of “Climate” is the lever to achieve submission.

“Let’s say that science, some decades from now, said ‘we were wrong, it was not about climate’, would it not in any case have been good to do many of things you have to do in order to combat climate change?.” https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/earth/environment/climatechange/10313261/EU-policy-on-climate-change-is-right-even-if-science-was-wrong-says-commissioner.html

If we ever needed any more evidence that this is a cult.. I support giving them a voice – a megaphone even – so ordinary people can see starkly that the climate, and ‘science’ is precisely what this isn’t about.

        Good Morning,
And it is indeed a good morning!?!
The beauty of irony is that it is often lost on those who; believe, preach & display it!! (Aka. thoughts, words & deeds!!)
I won’t be at all surprised if some people try & delete this “Own Goal” from the public record in the next couple of days.
This of course would be much like … Greenpeace have long contested that Patrick Moore is one of their founders (because he no longer toes the “Party Line”!); Townsville’s James Cook University sacking both Dr Bob Carter (may he rest in peace) & Prof Peter Ridd (same, same); The science community’s ousting of Susan Crockford for her inconvenient truths re. Polar Bear populations; and many others I have no time for here.
I truly hope that Stuart Basden’s little tirade of self-loathing is very widely circulated over the coming days/weeks!!
Humanity will be much richer if it is!!

Mentally, they have not left childhood and their night terrors of invisible monsters under their beds and in the dark corners of their closets. The monsters are actually hidden in the unexamined dark corners of their unused minds.

As a faulty psychological protective act, they must pretend that the rest of us are the monsters. What they really fear is that they are the real monsters and can’t allow themselves to be aware of that fear.

It gets better….tourists are a climate catastrophe….so stay away from Canada…..

It seems the “climate virus” is self terminating when its “host” dies….

        Loopy is as loopy does….

        https://canadafreepress.com/article/torontos-climate-emergency-tourists-need-to-stay-away

“It is now official; after Mayor John Tory (aka Johnny Short Pants) whined Canada’s largest city has a “climate emergency,” city council voted unanimously that we in this city indeed have a crisis. This was accompanied by the usual claptrap about having zero carbon emissions in 2050, a year in which the current city mothers will be out of office, some of them dead.

“Of course we can write this off as mere virtue signalling and not do anything to immediately attempt to deal with this crisis. But those who care about the city can and should take immediate steps to combat this emergency. And there is something that can be done.

“In the city once referred to as “Toronto the Good” murders and gun crimes are prevalent.
We are constantly being told what the cause of this climate catastrophe is. As with the Soylent Green the population will undoubtedly end up eating to save the planet, “it’s people.” In order to fight this emergency, we simply have to reduce the number of people in the city. That’s what the left’s beloved consensus of bought off scientists say.

        …..

“So how do we do this? Well luckily we have already taken steps to reduce the population. Since Canada has no abortion laws, terminating pregnancies helps reduce, in the words of Scrooge, “the surplus population.” And on the other end of the age spectrum Canada is now endowed with assisted suicide laws. Those who really want to help can go to a “free” doctor and begin the process of being put down.

“There is only one other thing the city can do—we have to discourage tourists from coming to Toronto and adding to the problem. Now in fairness, the politicians have already done a lot to discourage tourism. There is total gridlock on the streets. If you can manage to drive the speed limit, you can hold your breath until you reach construction; it ain’t impossible or even difficult. And if tourists think they will come to Toronto for a weekend and get around on the subway, they should think again. Weekends usually find portions of the subway lines closed for repairs.

“Tourists, especially those driving in from the US need to stay away. They’re helping to kill people. The city has a climate emergency: we’re going to die if Americans and others keep coming here.

Bit of a contradiction. Much of the UK parliament is made of old English men who are dead against leaving the EU and in favour of climate action to save the world. Oh I just remembered; they are the elite so they are exempt from criticism. Therein lies the real issue; both major parties are out of line of the silent majority. It explains for example what’s happening (actually not happening) with BREXIT. In that case it’s time to stop voting for them. The same pattern is developing here in Australia. The cancer is spreading. The irony is we have the democratic power to force a peaceful change but we repeatedly fail to exercise it. So who is to blame? The people of course. The quotation “the definition of insanity is repeating the same actions over and over again and expecting different results” rings so true.

Like Greta, XR is a corporate-sponsored media product.

XR is brought to you by the producers of Megan Markle, fake measles outbreaks and Kentucky firing-range footage used to frustrate any compromise in Syria. Just turn on your television set, there will be no charge. You can even watch ad-free on the ABC or Beeb. The show is all paid for, just soak it in. Old white males can chafe and threaten (vigilantes!), but the normalisation of all that was abnormal will proceed. Your property and privacy, your borders and family structures, your traditions and ethnic connections…they’re all toast. Because somebody says so all the time, and you don’t know who the somebody is but you know they must know best or they wouldn’t be inside your television box.

How do we know artificial product from real? Look at the Yellow Vests. Though heavily infiltrated by now (as was inevitable), they remain an actual popular uprising, far more than the “French” Revolution which was supposed to mark the beginning of “modern” history. The Vests have been raging away unnoticed while corporate-sponsored radicals like XR and the Thunberg theatrical troupe, the mushy left of globalism, are all over the news like a cheap suit.

The only alternatives to empire are being trampled. The nation state is already just one weak vote on a committee refereeing between lobbies. Soon corporatism won’t even need the referee. It won’t even need Stuart Basden, but as a good little imperialist of the new sort, he’ll do for now.

We can still take it back. Start by turning off their refuse media. Send the media broke, as a start.

“This was exacerbated when European ‘civilisation’ was spread around the globe through cruelty and violence (especially) over the last 600 years of colonialism, although the roots of the infections go much further back.”

      Wrong.
European colonizers were able to use firearms, armies and ships to control civilizations they encountered.
However, none or virtually none of the civilizations they encountered were pure passive peaceful persons.

      • Slavery was a worldwide practice.
      • Torture was a worldwide practice. Indeed, a perfect storm is when the Spanish, Incas and Toltecs exchange torture methods.
      – – There are Mayan carvings depicting tortures like pulling finger and toe nails.

      • In virtually every one of these allegedly pure cultures, women were somewhere between chattel and slavery. Native Americans valued women with good teeth; because women chewed leathers to soften them for wearing as clothes.
      – – Yes; Native American women were capable of achieving Chief or Shaman status within a tribe; but this misrepresents the average Indian woman status and roles.

As Europeans spread their toxicity around the world, they brought torture, genocide, carnage and suffering to the ends of the earth.

      Balderdash!

Much is made of Native American life. Except the supposed honorable plains tribes, the Sioux, Cheyenne and related sub-tribes were all dispossessed from their original lands by European settlers. They then displaced, enslaved or absorbed the small tribes living in the Great Plains out to the Rocky Mountains. Keep in mind that most tribes practiced stealing women for marriage; sometimes arranged, otherwise by force.

      • Native Americans were already experts at carnage, torture, slavery and causing suffering.
      • Rumors common nowadays cite the Indians learning scalping from the Spanish.
      – – Native Americans already knew how to skin a living person, documented in Mayan carvings.
      – – What the Spanish, and later the French and British taught the Indians is how to bring scalps to prove they killed an opponent. It seems the Europeans didn’t like receiving advanced decomposition heads.
      • This was easy to initiate and foster as the Europeans had wealth undreamed of in undeveloped cultures. With enough enemy scalps, a brave could exchange them for a firearm, bullets or blackpowder.

      • Not one culture encountered by the Europeans were strangers to war, slavery, torture or causing suffering.

“Their cultural myths justified the horrors, such as the idea that indigenous people were animals (not humans), and therefore God had given us dominion over them. This was used to justify a multi-continent-wide genocide of tens of millions of people.”

      • Many of the names attributed to these disparate cultures were from words the cultures used to describe themselves. Words that describe the local people as people, family, friends, allies, etc. etc.
      – – While the names these native cultures assign to other cultures or other nations translate as enemy, enemies, unworthy, untrustworthy, devil worshippers, etc. etc.
      • What is clear is that many cultures used a word for themselves that amounts to saying “us” and words for anyone else as “them, do not trust them”.

XR communiques and actions bear an uncanny resemblance to the evils they attribute to:
      A) Great Britain
      B) Europeans
      C) Old white men…

WR are typical elitist leftists projecting their own sins.

Obviously, these XR twits are not only deluded about climate change, but also lacking in education. Did they miss the history class that taught about the early Babylonian civilisation? The one that invented Arabic numerals, irrigation and trade? Did they miss the Egyptian civilisation? What about the Minoans, the Assyrians, and the ancient Indian and Chinese civilisations?

Then there was the Greek civilisation, which spread further around the world than many others at the time thanks to Alexander the Great, who was Macedonian. Not to mention the Roman Empire, which conquered most of Europe and North Africa. Of course, the Roman Empire also resulted in the spread of Christianity during the following millennium, but then the Moslem religion also had its great period of expansion throughout Asia in the 1500s and 1600s, tailing off with the spread of the Ottoman empire into Europe in the 1800s.

And perhaps XR never worked out that the Iron Age could only have come after mankind found out how carbon strengthens iron, and hence the value of coal in the production process.

But no. It must all be about some old white men from the UK.

Obviously Basden has never read about the true nature of all those global tribal cultures that British white men somehow ‘spoiled.’
Life was initially a vicious, brutal intertribal struggle for survival and power which the British eventually forged into a near global Rule of Law accompanied by the abolition of a worldwide practice of slavery that had been dominated by other cultures for thousands of years.
Britain built successful unified nations that had never previously existed and then handed them over to the indigenous peoples some of whom did very well out of it and some of whom trashed all that they had been given.
As just one simple example read a true historical account of the vicious way of life under Chaka the Zulu. And then there were the Aztecs.
The western institutions need to fight back against these promulgations of unreality instead of kowtowing to the likes of the sad misguided Gretas of this world.
Unfortunately our institutions are currently ridded by leftist authoritarians who seek to divide the successful, magnanimous and charitable western white men from all those who have benefitted from their endeavours over centuries.
Only by turning the rest of the world against the creators of civilisation can those leftist authoritarians ever hope to gain absolute power.
Once they have such power the world will become far worse than ever before in history.

Economic Systems: The alarmists keep telling us their concern about global warming is all about man’s stewardship of the environment. But we know that’s not true. A United Nations official has now confirmed this.

At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.

“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,” she said.

Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added: “This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”

The only economic model in the last 150 years that has ever worked at all is capitalism. The evidence is prima facie: From a feudal order that lasted a thousand years, produced zero growth and kept workdays long and lifespans short, the countries that have embraced free-market capitalism have enjoyed a system in which output has increased 70-fold, work days have been halved and lifespans doubled.

Figueres is perhaps the perfect person for the job of transforming “the economic development model” because she’s really never seen it work. “If you look at Ms. Figueres’ Wikipedia page,” notes Cato economist Dan Mitchell: Making the world look at their right hand while they choke developed economies with their left.

The white western males are the innovators, inventors, creators of our first world civilization. Take inventory of your surroundings at any moment and note that almost everything, if not everything, was invented by a white western male. The industries required to produce our luxuries were built by white western males. Asians, Africans , South Americans are great at copying – but not innovating.
Of course there was no war, disease, death nor destruction before the white man. Tell it to the victims of the Aztecs, Apaches, Egyptians, Babylonians, Pacific Island cannibals, African tribes (who sold their brothers into slavery) and lets not mention the Persians, Arabs, Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan. Of course Mao, Pol Pot and Mugabe were taught genocide at the feet of white western males.
All of these anti civilization nuts should give up their western white male innovations – live in a hut, eat off the land, crap in a hole and wipe with leaves

So these people are claiming developing nations have not benefited from the technology developed at enormous deprivation and social cost by western nations during the industrial revolution. Developing nations would be far better off without radio communications, aircraft, motor vehicles, computers, refrigeration, environmental monitoring equipment, modern antibiotics and other drugs, modern surgical practice and acquired medical knowledge and so on? These are all things western society has developed and provided to developing nations.

So it is far more sexist to open a door for a woman than to stone a woman to death for the crime of being raped? Its quite OK and not at all sexist to prevent women from driving a car, preventing them from going out in public without a male escort? Far less significant than failing to acknowledge there are N different genders not just 2, and its a hate crime to define woman as :noun adult human female. After all, transgender people would be soooo much better off living in the middle east than in a modern western society? Are these people really so blind that they dont see the often worse restrictions and stereotypes other cultures impose on their populations? Do they really think less developed cultures are free from, often far far worse, sexism, racism and religious bias? The tiniest flaw in our society is magnified into world shattering proportions while far far more serious problems in developing world cultures are totally ignored.

No, our society is not perfect and probably no society ever will be according to all people but personally I am proud of what our society has achieved both with regard to our standard of living, our respect for each other, and what we do to help other cultures to develop. I am also proud of our willingness to see and address our shortcomings. Yes we do extract some payment from developing societies to whom we give the technology we developed, usually in the form of cheap labour (by western standards). I note there are some who insist we should give that technology away for nothing and certainly we sometimes go too far and degenerate into exploitation but I also note that the overall effect is that, while western societies went through centuries of hardship to get to where they are now, these countries with our input manage the same transition in a few decades and often with less hardship – remember the work houses of 19th century Britain. Is that really such a bad bargain?

I think western society has a great deal to be proud of.

I suspect most developing nations are pragmatic enough to realise if the West falls so will they, at least for the foreseeable future. The “lefties” of course don’t see it that way. They want to destroy the West and they don’t realise if they ever succeeded in doing so they would be hated not just by the West but also the rest of the world, except for most of the Islamic states. It pretty much exposes which side the “lefties” prefer to support.

This is the popular diversity, equity and social justice movement taken to extremes. It is a widespread and powerful movement, including at the respectable corporate level. I see their stuff all the time. They have even coined a new word — minoritized — meaning that minorities have been put there (by old white guys).

Diversity is old but equity means the diverse should immediately have power.

5 seconds may be all you can stomach of the visual (no idea if the woman behind Stu is with him, or simply a passing stranger!):

Youtube: 13min: 5 Oct: Reframing Conflict with XR co-founder Stu Basden | Extinction Rebellion
    posted by Extinction Rebellion
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSsJk2bFL1I

think Stu is radical? for theirABC, he’s just a normal, commendable climate activist. ABC provides the pics. Bristol supplants Stroud:

9 Oct: ABC: Who are Extinction Rebellion and why are they blocking your commute to work?
    By Michael Collett
PIC:For some key figures in the movement, it’s not just about climate change. (AAP: James Ross)
Extinction Rebellion, also known as XR, began in April 2018 when a small group of British activists met in Bristol to discuss how to achieve what one early member called “radical social change”…

Sam Knights, who has been part of the movement from its inception and co-edited This Is Not A Drill: An Extinction Rebellion Handbook, wrote in his introduction to that book:
“The challenge we now face is extremely daunting. Because the problem, unfortunately, is not just the climate. The problem is ecology. The problem is the environment. The problem is biodiversity. The problem is capitalism. The problem is colonialism. The problem is power. The problem is inequality. The problem is greed, and corruption, and money, and this tired, broken system.”

***Stuart Basden, who describes himself as one of Extinction Rebellion’s co-founders, wrote an essay in January urging members not to reduce it to a climate movement:
“XR isn’t about the climate. You see, the climate’s breakdown is a symptom of a toxic system that has infected the ways we relate to each other as humans and to all life. This was exacerbated when European ‘civilisation’ was spread around the globe through cruelty and violence [especially] over the last 600 years of colonialism, although the roots of the infections go much further back.”…

The movement was founded on a rejection of traditional protests, according to Roger Hallam, one of its organisers…
However, XR says actions taken in its name must be non-violent, drawing inspiration from the American civil rights and Indian independence movements.
“As soon as you allow violence into the mix, you destroy the diversity and community basis upon which all successful mass mobilisations are based,” Mr Hallam wrote…

PIF: The decision to protest outside the BBC in London was part of XR’s media strategy. (Reuters: Simon Dawson)

The organiser of XR’s families arm in Melbourne, Christine Canty, told RN Drive she’s not prepared to be arrested because she’s got a psychology registration…
But while many of the XR activists risking arrest are young people, not all of them are.
In April, Farhana Yamin, a lawyer who had been a lead author for Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports, was arrested when she superglued her hands to the ground outside Shell’s headquarters in London.
“I wanted to show how ridiculous it is that a law-abiding — indeed, law-making — mother of four should be handcuffed while the world’s major polluters remain unaccountable for ecocide,” she wrote in Nature…

Yesterday, journalist Chloe Adams, a mother of two small children, described why she chose to join the movement despite having lived a law-abiding life.
“I am haunted by one image: the moment my children are old enough to understand the gravity of the climate crisis, and they look me in the eye and ask, ‘but what did you do Mummy?'” she wrote.

    Orson Olson

Basden is a dupe of lying “history” by the malicious communist Howard Zinn of Boston University, professor of political “science” activist. Here is how Zinn open’s his ‘A Peoples History of the United States:’

“…Columbus’s description of the Arawaks. They are “well-built” and handsomely featured. Having never seen iron, they accidentally cut themselves on the Europeans’ swords when they touch them. The passage ends with Columbus’s now infamous words: “They have no iron. Their spears are made out of cane. . . . They would make fine servants. . . . With fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want.”

The ellipses in this passage are Zinn’s, not mine [nor Columbus’]. Those omissions are essential to Zinn’s dishonest retelling of the Columbus story. By leaving crucial words out of the quotation, Zinn makes Columbus say something very different from what he actually said.

[In other words, Zinn forces Columbus to say different things in order to advance the generic communist causus bellus of rapacious capitalist greed. Zinn ‘proves’ it with “SEE! How evil Europeans are!!!!” misquotes]

It’s unlikely that he even read as much of “Columbus’s journals” …
    [snip]

Desires to find new lands for more resources and to escape enemies and persecution are not impulses unique to Europeans. The natives of North America [themselves were new to North America]…

When he encountered naked natives instead of the Asian merchants he was expecting, Columbus did not jump to thoughts of working them to death for gold as Zinn, following Koning, suggests. For example, in his log entry for October 12, 1492, Columbus wrote, “I warned my men to take nothing from the people without giving something in exchange”—a passage left out by both Koning and Zinn.

But Zinn’s most crucial omissions are in the passage from Columbus’s log that he quotes in the very first paragraph of his People’s History. There he uses ellipses to cover up the fact that he has left out enough of Columbus’s words to deceive his readers [!!!] about what the discoverer of America actually meant. The omission right before “They would make fine servants [to other natives attacking this island]” is particularly dishonest. Here’s the nub of what Zinn left out: “I saw some who bore marks of wounds on their bodies, and I made signs to them to ask how this came about, and they indicated to me that people came from other islands, which are near, and wished to capture them, and they defended themselves. And I believed and still believe that they come here from the mainland to take them for slaves.”

“The cultural unity of the Taino [the name for this particular tribe, which Zinn labels “Arawaks”] greatly impressed Columbus…. Those who see Columbus as the founder of slavery in the New World are grossly in error. This thought occurred to [Samuel Eliot] Morison (and many others), who misinterpreted a statement made by Columbus on the first day in America, when he said, ‘They (the Indians) ought to be good servants.’ In fact, Columbus offered this observation in explanation of an earlier comment he had made, theorizing that people from the mainland came to the islands to capture these Indians as slaves because they were so docile and obliging.”

Zinn’s next ellipsis between “They would make fine servants” and “With fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want” covers for Zinn’s dishonest pretense that the second statement has anything at all to do with the first. The sentences that Zinn joins here are not only not in the same paragraph—as he dishonestly pretends by printing them that way on the very first page of ‘A People’s History’— but they’re not even in the same entry of Columbus’s log. In fact, they’re from two days apart.
    [snip]

But literally the explorer’s first concern—the hope that he expressed in the initial comment about the natives in his log—was for the Indians’ freedom and their eternal salvation: “I want the natives to develop a friendly attitude toward us because I know that they are a people who can be made free and converted to our Holy Faith more by love than by force.”

(SEE MORE HERE “Howard Zinn lied about Christopher Columbus. Here’s how” by Mary Grabar. https://www.thecollegefix.com/howard-zinn-lied-about-christopher-columbus-heres-how/ )
    ———–
According to Zinn, ideology teaches a greater moral truth than facts do: the evil of property owning and the roots of capitalism, naturally.

    ***“They would make fine servants”***

And from such a decontextualized ‘admission’ as Columbus gave, as Zinn claims, comes the current idiotic fad that even reaches The New York Times, that the US was founded in the ‘sin’ of racial slavery. Why? Because of Europe! And evil Europeans just as bad as Columbus.

Slaves from Saudi Arabia to Mauritania in the South and North to Lybia today. Hence, today’s ‘Extinction Rebellion’ perceive just cause to destroy the ugly European. Never mind the millions of slaves, and mostly black slaves held by Muslims. (THIS must be Islamophobia!)

Thus, xR’s moral mission, transcending all petty dots for “eyes” and crosses for “t-s” anti-moralisms. “Cause Heads Unite!” as the satire “PCU” (1992) could put it.

So XR are using a tried and true tactic of demolishing a minority. In Australia we have two such groups to vent our bile on – refugees who come by boat, and newstart recipients. We will spend inordinate amounts to make sure they don’t break some made up rules.

Here is a task that I tried and failed at.

This is ER’s own web page – the front page of the organisation. https://rebellion.earth/

I’ve looked through the pressers and a view videos, manifesto type statements etc under a number of the tabs and have found no support for anything that says they hate white men (or things to that effect). Can anyone else?

In fact I found quite a lot of evidence that old white english blokes are boots and all a part of ER

    https://rebellion.earth/2019/10/17/breaking-extinction-rebellion-targets-arms-industry-disarm-to-decarbonise/

    https://rebellion.earth/2019/10/17/statement-on-todays-tube-action/

Is this just another tedious example of finding something/anything that someone associated with a group says that is not the official line and then claiming that they’re accidently revealing the secret/hidden/real agenda?

    Nah, not on this blog.

    12

    • #

Success, there is a link to Stuart Basden’s blog. The ER site avoids any specific mention of Basden’s views on OWM and so on but does acknowledge that he believes that structural change is a part of what needs to be achieved. It is only mentioned on one line in the context of short bios of the founders.

There are other more tunnels in the rabbit warren that suggest that ER does not have much control about the utterances and of the hierarchy nor their non-ER associations. Looks like the sort of organisation from which all sorts of splinter goroups will emanate.

That is the point of ER, like Occupy which is the spiritual founder of the new protest movements, the whole idea is that you do not have a strict, hierarchical organisation, but rather, a a distributed sovereignty, where as long as you identify with the aims of XR, you are part of XR.

So instead of focussing on ideological purity (think Stalinism, or Fascism) you are made into part of groundswell of like minded individuals, who crucially, maintain that capacity for individual thought and action. This may seem like a recipe for splintering, but as the Hong Kong, and Yellow Vest protestors are showing, it is a very good model in a world with blockchains and mobile communications.

There was an energy and a buzz at the protests that we haven’t seen before…
We also spoke to veteran activist Andrew Basden, 70, from the pot washing station at the Marble Arch site. He’s been involved in environmental activism since 1980, but felt the Extinction Rebellion was creating a new phase in the climate change debate. “At last somebody is talking about climate change and environmental responsibility,” he said. “I’ve been waiting 30 years for this.”

He added: “I see signs that it is different now compared to what it was in any of these environmental protests before, there seems to be a change in the amount of discussion going on, and it just so happens that it’s coincided with David Attenborough’s climate change action, Greta Thunberg’s school strikes, and it’s coincided with a break in which we haven’t been talking about Brexit so this could enter the discourse.”…

Stu allegedly got arrested at one of these reckless protests, which MSM worldwide (including ABC) reported with little or no criticism:

10 Oct: City AM: Extinction Rebellion protester lies on top of plane at London City Airport to disrupt flight
      by Stefan Boscia
Paralympian James Brown has climbed up on top of a plane at London City Airport as a part of an Extinction Rebellion protest…
Brown, who is reportedly blind, apparently boarded the plane before backing out and climbing on to the top of the aircraft.
Brown was arrested after lying on top of the plane for about half an hour…
The man can be heard saying in the video: “I don’t wish to travel with you but I don’t wish to get off.
“We have two generations of human civilisation left if we carry on doing what we’re doing.”…
BBC political editor (Newsnight) ***Nicholas Watt was on (another) flight that was disrupted…
Activists have labelled the action as a “Hong Kong-style” occupation of the airport in an attempt to disrupt flights…

My flight from London City airport to Dublin has just been grounded by a climate change protestor. On runway and about to take off when smartly dressed man in late middle age stood up with iPhone to deliver lecture on climate change up and down aisle.

Cabin crew calmy and very politely asked protestor to resume his seat. Politely but persistently he declined and proceeded to deliver his lecture on climate change in aisle. Some passengers annoyed, others listened to lecture with humour as cabin crew alerted pilot.

Plane was at the end of runway. So the pilot taxied back to gate where plane was met by throng of police. They came on board and escorted the protestor off the plane. No skirmish and protestor left the plane.

Well now, where have we heard this before? Don’t answer that, it’s been answered to many times already. No matter who is dissatisfied with history, some slight, some horrific event, whatever it is, the first thing you do is condemn and point the blaming finger at the past and at those now alive who represent that past, jeez, that’s me an old Englishman. Well, I’ve got news for you creeps, we built nations while all you can do is piss all over what someone else has built. We can get along without you but the converse is not true, you need us to get along.

How many of you know enough to be able to feed billions of people everyday? How many of you can light a city at night? How many of you know how to remove a diseased appendix and for that matter, how many of you have enough knowledge of human anatomy to even locate an appendix? You think you know all the answers but you know nothing except how to condemn and tear down. We’ve seen you before and the funny thing is all your previous incarnations are gone and we’re still here. And after you’re all gone we’ll also still be here.

Take the hint before you waste your lives, get a job and do something useful because you have no future the way you’re going. Shape up or get off our planet.

Erewhon; or, Over the Range, satirical novel by Samuel Butler, first published anonymously in 1872′.

    https://www.britannica.com/topic/Erewhon

‘The name of the realm in which the novel is set, Erewhon, is an anagram for “nowhere”. The novel begins as an adventure story, using the convention of travel in an imaginary country. To the story’s narrator, Erewhon at first seems utopian in its disregard for money—which lends status but has no purchasing value—and machines—which have been outlawed as dangerous competitors in the struggle for existence. Erewhon has also declared disease a crime for which the sick are imprisoned, and crime is considered a disease for which criminals are sent to the hospital. As the unnamed narrator further examines the institutions of Erewhon, his illusions of utopia and eternal progress are stripped away’.

‘The novel’s two main themes, religion and evolution, are examined in “The Musical Banks” (representing the Anglican church) and in chapters called “Some Erewhonian Trials” and “The Book of the Machines” (which grew out of Butler’s reading of Charles Darwin)’.

‘Butler’s sequel, entitled Erewhon Revisited (1901), lacks the freshness of the original, which remains a noteworthy satire of life and thought in Victorian England‘. Young white man critiquing old white men?

Erewhon Station and Erewhon Ski Area (Mt. Potts) are real places and still exist * up the Rangitata Valley in the middle of the South Island. [* it would appear it’s been sold, RIP]

27 Jun: Crikey: Why I’m on board for the rebellion
Extinction Rebellion’s UK protests were whimsical and reckless, but they also worked. Now they’re starting in Australia…
    by Jesse Noakes
(Jesse Noakes is currently doing voluntary media work for Extinction Rebellion, and was not paid for this piece)
Last Saturday I joined a couple of hundred others in the Perth CBD for the launch of Extinction Rebellion WA…
Another founding member, ***Stuart Basden, wrote a Medium post earlier this year titled “Extinction Rebellion isn’t about the climate”. “If we only talk about the climate, we’re missing the deeper problems plaguing our culture,” he says. “To focus on the climate’s breakdown (the symptom) … is a form of denialism … that takes away from the necessary focus of the need for all of us to de-colonise our selves.”

At the Perth rally, the two largest banners read “Rebel for Life” and “Decolonisation”. Local elder Uncle Ben Taylor spoke about how Noongar people have been warning about climate change and damage to country from the start. “But we are still refugees in our own country,” he said. “It’s spiritually, mentally, physically heartbreaking.”
Noongar writer Cassie Lynch speaks about Aboriginal cultures as a model for repairing our relationship with the natural world and responding to climate change…

Celebrated British theorist Mark Fisher spoke of “capitalist realism” — the collective subjectivity that he described as “a pervasive atmosphere, acting as a kind of invisible barrier constraining thought and action”. Margaret Thatcher was pithier: “There is no alternative”. Fisher’s central idea is that “it’s easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism”.

It’s increasingly apparent that it’s a choice between one or the other. In one sense, though, Thatcher was right: at this point there’s no alternative but to pick a side and fight, us or the machine. Time to get out on the streets and bring it to a standstill.

18 Apr: France24: AFP: Extinction Rebellion: the green movement with global ambitions
The organisation, formed by academics in Britain last year…
“I believe that breaking the law is necessary because it shows the population that something is wrong here,” ***Stuart Basden, one of the group’s organisers, told AFP.
“I want to demonstrate my view that the government as it stands is criminally negligent… by allowing the system to continue.”

The 36-year-old former web developer spent a week in jail in 2017 for his protest activities and is now training climate activists on how to “mentally prepare” for prison if it comes to that.
He said the movement now paralysing parts of central London had attracted people from far and wide in Britain, with hundreds quitting their jobs or university courses to join in.
“We didn’t have to convince people, we just gave them the information,” Basden said.
“They want to be involved. They realise how serious the situation is,” he told AFP…

It is now present in 49 countries, and attracted high-profile supporters from US intellectual Noam Chomsky and actress Emma Thompson to young Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg…
On its British website, the group says it receives “small donations” from individuals and “larger sums” from organisations like the Berlin-based ***Guerilla Foundation, which donated 18,000 euros ($20,000) for its launch…
    https://www.france24.com/en/20190418-extinction-rebellion-green-movement-with-global-ambitions

    ***InfluenceWatch: Guerrilla Foundation
The Guerrilla Foundation is a German-based grantmaker that finances radical left-of-center activists throughout Europe. Antonis Schwarz, heir to a pharmaceutical fortune, started the foundation in 2016.
Guerrilla Foundation reportedly supports the radical environmentalist pressure campaign Extinction Rebellion (XR).
The Guerrilla Foundation is a German-based grantmaking organization that professes to be “working towards bringing about major systemic change across Europe.” The organization backs “ethical and sustainable economy not predicated upon unrestricted growth.”…
The organization says it has financially supported more than 53 “activist collectives.”…

Schwarz is an activist and philanthropist with inherited wealth he used to fund social causes since 2011. At age 16, Schwarz came into a family fortune when his great-grandfather, sold a pharmaceutical company that he helped found for 4.4 billion euros, or about $5 billion. His family had established Schwarz Pharma in 1946 and sold it in 2006…
The organization says a criteria for grants requires a grantee addressing the “root cause” to attain “systemic change.” A grantee must also embody left-progressive values, and the spending must have a “multiplier effect.”…

The group also focuses heavily on what is calls, “the story,” or changing what it considers “distorted narratives,” to promote “pan-European collective action.” The organization quotes New York Times liberal columnist Paul Krugman about the need to correct “learned ignorance.” …
One of the key recipients of Guerilla funds is Extinction Rebellion, a radical environmental group in Britain that calls for civil disobedience to call attention to a supposed “climate emergency.”

All through history there have been invasions. It is a myth by the touchy feely crowd that the Mongols were nice, the Vikings were good after all, the Huns and Goths and Visigoths, Franks and Picts and Scots were in reality really friendly. Even the Celts invaded England. As for the Saxons, that was the name of a dagger and the Angles were famous for human sacrifice. Violent conquest remains the norm except today. Unless you consider ISIS as an invasion.

You can hardly do anything else in the invasion business but for some reason the civilization of the British trading empire is seen as historically the worst, when in fact it was welcomed in places like India. So much so that a simple British trading company, the East India company run by 20 clerks in London ended up one of the biggest empires in history with its own army.

So this railing against the English and white men in particular is absurd. Does anyone remember the rape of Nanjing, or is that lost to history. Or the sack of Carthage? When ever were armies so wonderful and caring? Then the Black Death, the endless plagues. The sack of Constantinople? Then small pox plagues and syphilis from South America? Cholera, rampant in Melbourne Australia until like London we retrofitted sewers to Marvellous Smellbourne. There 3,000 cases in one year in Malvern. London had 30,000.

In this new version of reality, people lived in peace with running water, refrigeration and plentiful food and books until the British turned up. What absolute nonsense, especially in Australia. As top predator man was his own greatest enemy and it had nothing to do with colour or race.

All mixed up with Climate Change, made up science mixed with made up history and with no connection to reality.

Extinction is what will happen if people follow such nonsense. The quality of life in Western democracies is the highest in history, but there are always the doomsayers, demanding cash with threats of the end of the world. The only danger is that someone might believe this garbage. It is all aimed at people who scare easily, as always. And it is always about money.

The only good part of this is that it is an utterly ridiculous and obviously contrived story, like every part of man made Climate Change, supported by tens of thousands of professional opportunists. Like every man made religion. If even one of the world’s many religions is right, what about all the others?

a simple British trading company, the East India company run by 20 clerks in London” – cough!

“The British East India Company established a monopoly on opium cultivation in the Indian province of Bengal… Other Western countries also joined in the trade, including the United States, which dealt in Turkish as well as Indian opium. Britain and other European countries undertook the opium trade because of their chronic trade imbalance with China… The opium trade, which created a steady demand among Chinese addicts for opium imported by the West, solved this chronic trade imbalance”.

My, how the tables have turned. And let’s not ever mention ‘Hong Kong’ again, huh?

Wonkypeedia have a little more info on the simple dubious monopoly franchised out, under Royal Charter no less, to such (in)famous names as Jardine, Matheson, Sassoon, P&O… and lest we forget the First Opium War, the Second Opium War, the Never-Ending Opium War (ongoing to this very day): “a simple British trading company“??? Rule Britannia – cough!

The messed up know-it-all teens or 20-somethings who are now intent on constantly wanting to reinterpret written history from a viewpoint of the complete lack of understanding of the issues and context of events of the day, can only be the fault of the ‘teachers’ who have failed them. Else, they’re just fools who failed themselves and are destroying their own life and future in the process. If they don’t breed I’m OK with that. Spectator & Times behind paywalls:

16 Oct: UK Spectator: What Extinction Rebellion and the People’s Vote campaign have in common
    by Tom Slater
Extinction Rebellion (XR) has announced it will finish its ‘Autumn Uprising’ earlier than planned in order to make way for the People’s Vote march on Saturday. The two groups have been in informal discussions for some time aimed at avoiding getting in one another’s way, according to a report in the Times.
Even if the Metropolitan Police’s draconian city-wide ban on XR may have made such a deal unnecessary, it reminds us how much the groups have in common…

15 Oct: UK Times: Extinction Rebellion protest ban ‘an assault on human rights’
    by Tom Ball, Ben Webster
Rights campaigners have criticised the decision by the Metropolitan Police to ban Extinction Rebellion protests anywhere in London.
Scotland Yard issued the order last night, stating that the group “must now cease their protests within London” and “anyone who fails to comply with the condition is liable for arrest and prosecution”.
It said the order was being imposed because of “ongoing serious disruption to the community”.
The Met had previously said Extinction Rebellion could continue to protest within the pedestrianised area of Trafalgar Square…
Extinction Rebellion is to bring forward the final hurrah of its two week-protest by a day to “make way” for the People’s Vote anti-Brexit march…

    By Pete Hughes
FILM and TV director Armando Iannucci is paying for coaches to take people from Oxford to London this weekend so they can join a ‘People’s Vote’ march demanding a second EU referendum.
The Oxfordshire resident, best known for his BBC political satire The Thick Of It, is sponsoring travel to the ‘Together For The Final Say’ demonstration in the capital on Saturday.

It is the third time he has paid for coaches to take people to a People’s Vote march, having also done it last October and in March this year, when a million people demonstrated in London.
It is the third time he has paid for coaches to take people to a People’s Vote march, having also done it last October and in March this year, when a million people demonstrated in London.
More than 170 coaches have already been booked by local campaign groups across the UK to get to the Together For The Final Say march.

Mr Iannucci said: “I’m delighted to once again be able to support the People’s Vote Campaign by helping to get campaigners from Oxfordshire to the Together For The Final Say march this Saturday.
“This Saturday, the Prime Minister is planning to be inside the gates of Parliament for an emergency debate on his Brexit. But outside, the people – young and old, rich and poor, left and right will be marching through the streets of London.
“Why? Because the people know that Brexit can’t be just left to the politicians like Boris Johnson. The only fair and democratic way to solve this crisis is to have a People’s Vote.”

    by Valerie Richardson
Nobody has done more to sink the claim that climate change is endangering polar bears than zoologist Susan Crockford — and she may have paid for it with her job…

UVic Associate Vice President Michele Parkin responded with a letter challenging the assertion that Ms. Crockford was let go for “telling school kids politically incorrect facts about polar bears.” She was referring to a recent headline in the National Post of Toronto.

“There is no evidence to suggest that Dr. Crockford’s adjunct appointment was not renewed for ‘telling school kids politically incorrect facts about polar bears,’” said Ms. Parkin. “The University of Victoria, in both word and deed, supports academic freedom and free debate on academic issues.”…

The delusions of hetero-sexism/heteronormativity propagate the idea that heterosexuality is ‘normal’

Just got to call out this sort of idiotic nonsense within the linked blog of errant drivel.

It’s generally accepted that child-birth does not result from male-on-male sodomy or from female-on-female scissoring.

Sexual reproduction is exclusively a heterosexual capacity, and thus defines normal sexual activity. Heterosexuality is overwhelmingly preferred and far more popular than homosexual sodomy or scissoring.

    [snip. too much IK.]

What is curious though is why this ‘Extinction Rebellion’ boofhead felt his view of attempting to ‘normalize’ “deviant” sex, justified advocating gluing one’s person to a roadway, in an attempt to right the sexual wrongs of an entire planet. I mean it’s been decriminalized, you can do it, no one will stop you. Please us wet-wipes.

But don’t go expecting normal people to regard it as ‘normal’ because they won’t be doing that, simply because it isn’t. Gluing yourself to a train or a random revolving door is not going to alter normal people’s view of that.

    Fair enough?

The Extinction Rebellion crowd are doing what they believe is something important … saving us from ourselves, because they believe they have the privileged truth about climate change and problems of the world. I’m not one that subscribes to locking them up. No, I would rather the people who have sold them the lie be locked up.

I happen to know a young man who is involved in with Extinction Rebellion. He is a quiet lad, who isn’t a big thinker. He is however, a walking talking recorder of information feed to him. He just doesn’t question the narrative or notice the huge gaps in rationale of the Extinction Rebellion. He believes he’s on a quest to save the world.

One night I started to ask him a few questions, he answered and I pointed out to him some inconsistencies to his argument, as which point his girlfriend promptly told him he was wasting his time and shouldn’t talk to me about such things.

And that’s the way they work, through ostracization of those with a different view, while recruiting people who don’t have the facts or the time to dig deeper into the subject and go with their emotions and gut.

The big question is … what’s really behind the climate change lie?
