Australia: 2019 was not the hottest summer say satellites — it was just as hot in 1991

All that global warming and nothing to show for it?

Headlines rang out telling Australians that last summer was the hottest ever. But, according to the UAH satellite series, the hottest — just barely — was in 1991, when CO2 was a wonderful, safe 356 ppm. Since then, humans have emitted more than half — fully 58% — of all the emissions we have ever emitted since we crawled out of those dank caves. CO2 levels are almost 50 ppm higher now, and temperatures are almost as high.*

Wonder if this summer will get close to the summer of 1991 (and we wonder if Victoria will keep the lights on).

Australia, summer temperatures, Graph, 2019, UAH, satellite, hottest summers.

The UAH data comes from NASA satellites, which cover all the Australian land mass every day and night.

The BOM (and NASA) prefers to use Australian ground data which is based on sparse thermometers that keep changing sites and equipment, are located near airport tarmacs, buildings, and cars. When readings are too cold, the BOM sometimes deletes them. Temperatures from thermometers hundreds of kilometers apart are magically homogenized and “corrected” through a secret computer process and two thirds of our warming comes from those adjustments, not from CO2 or whatever is warming the planet. To measure climate change, the BOM compares new readings from super-fast electronic one-second measurements in small 60 litre boxes to old readings from slow glass thermometers in 240 litre boxes. The agency carefully calibrates these different thermometers then throws all that data away. What’s not to like?

Here’s the BOM temperature map for summer 1991

Summer 2019, Bureau of Meteorology Map

And for summer 2019

So, 28 years later the Australian summer was about the same in the places where 24 million people live. But possibly it was hotter in places where we have almost no people and hardly any thermometers. Maybe. In the BOM’s defence it was wetter in Northern Australia in 1991 than in 2019. However this just means that if 2019 was the “hottest” then it was due to the drought, not our CO2.
Summer 2019, Bureau of Meteorology Map

Drought means higher maximums

As Roy Spencer, Ken Stewart and Bill Johnston have independently shown, rainfall cools the maximum temperatures in summer in Australia. Obviously, in summer, wet ground is cooler ground and so is the air above it.  Tom Quirk has reported that the biggest differences between UAH and the BOM are in December and February.

In Australia, if the climate gets cooler we may get more droughts (due to less evaporation off the ocean), This may mean higher extreme maximums in summer than what we got during a lovely hot spell. Whatever happens, of course, a PR Bureau will call it “climate change” and they predicted it, even if they predicted the opposite.

* Unlike “expert climate scientists” I’m not claiming anything about CO2 because of one hot summer then or now. I claim that CO2 is largely irrelevant because the trends are not increasing, 28 million weather balloons couldn’t find the hot spot, 1,000 tide gauges show the seas are not rising fast, nor are they accelerating. Plus the climate models are wrong on the Antarctic, and hopeless on most things.

The luke warmer view ie the fundamental physics of the Greenhouse Theory is correct, but the estimated climate sensitivity to CO2 is very small.

That is ok. For myself I am looking for evidence that CO2 can help cool the Earth surface. It might seem an extreme PSI view, but it can be argued. My search was assisted recently by a contribution from the last weekend unthreaded, including a comment by Gee aye!

Hopefully I can put something together by Sunday.

‘Hide the decline’, obvious there is (in the first graph) a decline from 1998 – 2012. So as CO2 was supposed to be increasing then, why was there a decline?

A change in temperature implies heat transfer which is an engineering subject and has been since the father of Sadi Carnot first wrote about it in 1796. Other engineering subjects are thermodynamics, mass transfer, fluid dynamics, reaction kinetics etc. Anyone mentioning physics with respect to climate assessment does not know what they are talking about.

        Mass, heat and momentum transfer.

The concept of global warming being caused by human origin CO2 has an analogy of sorts.

A large elephant walks regularly across a bridge in the jungle and one day a mosquito flies down, sits on his back and hitches a ride. Neither the elephant nor the bridge feel a thing.

In theory it might be possible to put so many mosquitoes on the elephants back that, when piled high, the extra weight might overwhelm the elephant or cause the bridge to collapse.

There are two problems with the human origin CO2 idea, the first being that in the atmosphere the concept of an operational “greenhouse” mechanism being present is a nonsense. The second point revolves around quantitative analysis which shows that even if the mechanism was functional, the human origin CO2 has no measurable effect.

You can’t fit that many mosquitoes on the elephants back.

Modelling of global mean annual near surface temperature (GMAT) appears predicated upon top-of-the-atmosphere solar irradiance and total surface atmospheric pressure.

“Our analysis revealed that GMATs of rocky planets can accurately be predicted over a broad range of atmospheric conditions and radiative regimes only using two forcing variables: top-of-the-atmosphere solar irradiance and total surface atmospheric pressure. The new model displays characteristics of an emergent macro-level thermodynamic relationship heretofore unbeknown to science that deserves further investigation and possibly a theoretical interpretation.”

So what caused the following year’s drop, nay, plunge? Almost 2 degrees of (cough!) change.

It was the hottest of times, it was the coldest of times, it was El Niño / La Niña Extreme!

Proof the planet sporadically goes bi-polar manic-depressed. The cure? Lithium of course!

Not sure and not an expert, but may be due to Pinatubo, which erupted in 1991.

Pinatubo was clearly the cause of the temperature decline, a haze encircled the globe for a couple of years.

True that. El Niños now cause volcanoes – which is our fault – according to the ‘new’ science. /facetious /flippant /sarc

I returned to NZ from the States in Aug 1991 to be greeted by EPIC snow conditions across the South Island. The following year was just as epic – deep, cold, endless snow which saw us boarders hiking & riding till New Year’s Day (summer in these parts). Some of the old skiers were reminiscing about the ‘big snows’ back in the 1960s and 70s, clearly aware of cycles and good/bad years. The mid- to late-90s settled back to ‘average’ snowfall amounts, yet monster dumps still occurred, even one from an ex-cyclone in early March (high summer) which went right over Queenstown before dredging up cold southerlies, turning the hills white with a fresh coat of summer snow.

It’s looking like your ‘Alps’ are in for a little more winter, early next week, with sub-zero temps and a touch of white on the tops:

Maybe Angry Girl should be angry at SO₂ (sulphur dioxide) instead of CO₂ (carbon dioxide) – or maybe she doesn’t know the difference: it’s ‘old’ white man science after all.

As has been previously mentioned and on many occasions, it is cloud cover that makes the difference. The adjective and convective mechanisms that can lead to lower diurnal ranges when winds and clouds come into play. Some people cannot understand this and that the ocean and atmospheric coupling is essential for cloud formation and rain.

Just to add is the intrusion of the Humboldt current(Alexander von Humboldt being one of the greatest scientific explorers) this cold, low saline water pushes up from the South and interacts with equatorial waters. Temperatures are a fabrication when in reality there is no background warming- or none that can be ascertained.

      https://s3.amazonaws.com/jo.nova/graph/temp/aust/2019/uah-australia-temps-summer-2019.gif

The El Nino might explain the spike to +.78C in 1991 but not the plunging temperature to-0.84C in 1992. That is a temperature drop of 1.62C in just one year!

It is these large short term variations that make me wonder about errors in the UAH data.

At the same time there is about a 7% variation in insolation over the course of the year due to the eccentricity of the Earth’s orbit about the sun. Yet this variation does not show up at all in any of the Global temperature series.

Mount Pinatubo intervened to account for the sharp decline in temperatures.

Nature caused a spike and nature caused a precipitous fall, CO2 had no part to play.

Conservative Wagga surprises with climate emergency declaration

    Whoa! Wait. What?

“Families have kept weather records on their farms … that go back often 100-120 years.

And looking back through that they’re seeing the droughts and flooding rains.

Funnell’s family were among the first European settlers in the district.

“I damn well know what’s going on in the climate,” he told Guardian Australia.
“If you look back historically, it’s very similar to what we went through right through the 20th century.
    Every decade there were droughts.”

    “I love a sunburned country
    A land of sweeping plains,
    Of ragged mountain ranges
    Of droughts and flooding rains”

But it seems now the BOM insists that we have to expect a land of predictable temperatures,
evenly distributed rainfall, no regional droughts
and no variation from any mean and certainly no tropical storms.

Now that would require an extreme Climate Change.

What would a young girl who had lived through the Federation Drought know?

Obviously more than the BOM, which refuses to include the records from before 1909
and the State records from before 1901, records which have always have been their
      exclusive and unfulfilled responsibility.

Surely Australia owes it to the world to set the record straight. Otherwise people might be

No TdeF, I have been unreliably informed on blogs that Dorothea was a bohemian city girl who made the poem up, a work of fiction.

The increasing number of leftist bloggers who make that claim obviously indicates that “droughts and flooding rains” are threatening words for the hoax scientologists.

I understand that Dorethea’s brother was a pastoralist and that she spent much time on his properties.

Well Dennis, you can put them straight. Dorothea had the poem published when she was 19. Her father was certainly a well-to-do Sydney doctor, but the McKellar family had a couple of bush properties where they spent extensive time. She chose to spend many of her teenage years on the family property “Torryburn” on the Paterson River about an hour and half north of Newcastle in the foothills of the Mt Royal Ranges. That’s where she saw the “green tangle of the brushes, where lithe lianas coil” in the rainforests thereabouts. A “brush” is the old name for a patch of rainforest.

After the Federation Drought’s impact on the district she would have had plenty of inspiration, and flooding rains are also a regular feature of the district. For instance, after the 1965-66 drought broke, we had 13 floods on the Paterson in 1967. I grew up a few Ks down the road from Dorothea’s place. The local Historical Society put out a small book on her, which I have loaned out or I could give you more details.

She also used to visit her brother who had a grazing property near Gunnedah on the north west slopes of NSW. Between those two properties she had enough material for ten poems.

Whilst being nursed in her final days, she revealed to her nurse that My Country was written at Torryburn.

        Totally agree, Tdef.
The BoM should be able to supply all the rainfall records, at least back to 1870,
The BoM time series goes back to 1900 and shows 1902 and 1905 as the lowest rainfall totals for the past 120 years.
They would only have to go back to 1896 to show the full extent of the Fed Drought.
It also shows far less rainfall prior to 1970 than after 1970.

Recently, I had a retired academic (from thr humanities) refute what I said about water vapor being a greenhouse gas. He was in his mid nineties, and very erudite, but a believer in CAGW. You can never stop learning.

      70

      • #

But you can see clouds because all the light reflects and light is heat, as people in front of a radiator know. Also you can feel the warmth of the sun and know it is missing if blocked by clouds, so clouds cool as well. When flying, the clouds below are brilliant white. From below they can be black.
Water vapour controls our weather. We would have no weather without clouds and no rain. It’s more than a Greenhouse, it’s a steamroom.

Plus a clear night is much colder than a cloudy night, especially in the mid latitudes. It is freezing in the desert on a clear night after being so hot during the day. Why?

Then unlike water, clouds, snow, ice, steam, CO2 is invisible, which means it only blocks a part of the spectrum in the infra red, so it is a far weaker greenhouse gas than water
and there is so little of it, 0.04%.

The other difference is that the CO2 is the same every day, like a perpetually cloudy day. So it makes little difference if CO2 goes up from 0.03% to 0.04%. If it was a blind, the bulk
of the effect is already in place. Making it a little thicker hardly matters.

So the histrionics about the increase in CO2 is completely without basis. Whatever greenhouse effect exists is already in place and constant. Even if the increase in CO2 was not natural, it would have little effect on the planet’s temperature. All of that is simple stuff, even for an Arts graduate.

The 1876 September #snowstorm was so bad, it caused floods in Goulburn and the Blue Mountains.

    SNOWSTORM 1876.
[ From this paper of 13th September 1876.]

A change in the weather that will prove very beneficial took place on Saturday morning, when a few slight showers of rain fell.
The weather was afterwards very warm.

In the afternoon a thunderstorm passed over the city,·and rain continued at intervals during the night.

About seven o’clock on Sunday morning snow and rain commenced; but shortly after eight o’clock the rain ceased, but snow continued to fall inlarge ‘flakes till three o’clook in the afternoon.

Between one and two snow came down in a manner that is said never to have been witnessed here before, the whole atmosphere being darkened through the thickness of the fall.

“Warming the planet” … pure eco-Kool Aid.

No warming in the United States since at least 2005, according to updated data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). USCRN temperature stations show no warming since 2005 when the network went online. If anything, U.S. temperatures are now slightly cooler than they were 14 years ago. There is also good reason to believe U.S. temperatures have not warmed at all since the 1930s.

“The IPCC climate sensitivity is about one order of magnitude (i.e. 10 times) too high, because a strong negative feedback of the clouds is missing in climate models. If we pay attention to the fact that only a small part of the increased CO2 concentration is anthropogenic, we have to recognise that the anthropogenic climate change does not exist in practice, write Kauppinen and Malmi. “The major part of the extra CO2 is emitted from oceans, according to Henry‘s law. The low clouds practically control the global average temperature. During the last hundred years the temperature is increased about 0.1℃ because of CO2. The human contribution was about 0.01℃.”

Well G3 – 10 thousand years ago the world came out of the last ice age, and temps shot up to roughly levels experienced in the 1900’s, between 6 and 4 thousand years before present, the temp was higher than that, and showed a .5 decrease during the 4 thousand years until roughly the 1900’s, and then it has increased by 1 degree in 100 years, while CO2 has gone up by more than 100 ppm.

That’s a nice long list and so quickly assembled BUT what is there about the last 10,000 years? There’s a bit about the Medieval Warm period which I assume you now agree happened, especially in Greenland. Even Brian Foley (conviced warmist) noted that wheat was grown around Trondheim in those times. And H.H. Lamb pointed out that grapes were grown in England as far north as York (and in what would have been a frost hollow).

As for your claim that the past temperature was about that experienced in the 1900’s could you be a little more explicit? The cold time in 1905, the warm 1920’s and 30’s, or the cold times in the 1960’s and 70’s when a lot of scientists were predicting a new ice age? And you have exaggerated the increase in temperature in the last 100 years while glossing over the years 1850-1875 when glaciers in Europe showed such remarkable melting without the benefit of an increase in CO2.
Still I have changed my mind and will concede that you do indeed have the brains of a raspberry seed.

No G3 – I accept that there were variations due to various solar cycles. However, as those reconstructions attest, nothing compares with the 1 degree rise in the last 100 years, and that is coincident with the rise of CO2

NH was most definitely warmer than now during the MWP

Most of the last 10,000 years have been MUCH warmer.

You also failed to cite: the Temperature (deuterium proxy) and CO2 Antarctic Dome-Concordia ice core analysis, Jouzel J et al. (2004) and Siegenthaler U, et al. (2005), demonstrating the major global hot/cold cycles and lag of CO2 behind temperature, graphic: G LeBlanc Smith PhD, AIG, AAPG, Sci Nat (2006).
As the average SD of centennial variation of temperature through the last 8000 yrs of the Holocene was 0.98 ± 0.27C (Lloyd PJ 2015), so excluding the absurdity of the globalist adjustment bureau, things have changed in a cooling direction, a point Tony Heller illustrates from the unadjusted data published by NASA and NOAA before the adjustment bureau at GISS began the k-orrupt meddling of (then) settled politics

The attempt to misrepresent reading tolerances for temperature measuring devices was dealt with in some depth previously:

            Tolerance?

There was a recent analysis done on tolerance.

That sort of analysis is always difficult but not impossible.

A similar assessment was made on tollerance earlier:

“A thorough analysis of the comments was attempted in order to assess the truthfulness, or otherwise.

The nominal assessment being to deterine impact on the blog and clearly the end point anticipated by the assessment must be defined according to its charter.

But that is only true if the precursor of the anticipated end state is accurately predicted prior to the enactment of the process under assessment.

Should that mid process data not be available then the initial baseline would be eliminated from the assessment resulting in substantial disconfirmation of the proposed analytical pathway and complete collapse of this important project.

Unfortunately the data was so badly homogenised during transfer to the computer that final analysis was impossible and tolerance could not be assessed.

It’s hoped that more funding will eventually be granted for this project.

Neither is BOM, BOM-ACORN is an adjusted fabrication of URBAN temperatures

Urban area take up 1-2% of the planet’s surface, but through their smearing of stored and created heat over large non-applicable areas, make up some 90-95% of the “CALCULATED” surface temperature. Sparse, irregularly space, massively urban affected. Overall totally UNFIT for climate purposes….

This means that the Calculated surface temperature is NOT even a remotely good approximation of global surface temperatures.

Just because you clueless about how the UAH data is extracted, means nothing

Everybody KNOWS that ACORN-SAT is massively adjusted and based on CRAP sites and has massive urban contamination.

It is also sparse, irregular and missing lots of data that has to be fabricated.

      Only fit for AGW propaganda.

UAH doesn’t have these issue, it is a consistent even distribution of measurements

Poor PF doesn’t understand that satellites move, orbit decay and these are KNOWN issues that have to be accounted for. (The ignorance is very strong with little PF.)

VERY different from just guessing that maybe a station has moved, or not but let’s just fabricate anyway.

BOM are totally clueless about the condition of the stations that provide their data.

They make unknown “adjustments” for unknown, unproven reasons on a whim, they smear large urban heat signatures over huge areas.

ACORN 2 is a mathematical and statistical CORRUPTION of real data, nothing more, and its only purpose is to meet the propaganda needs of the AGW scam.

The Feldman paper again.. It has been DEMOLISHED time and time again

      A zombie paper at best!

It also shows absolutely NO LINK between this MODELLED forcing and actual temperature

The Alaskan site actually COOLED by 4C over that period

And the other site started at the base of a La Nina and ended at the top of an El Nino then the temperature dropped down to the same as the La Nina temperature 2 years later

SO absolutely NO CORRELATION TO TEMPERATURE CHANGES..

Not only that, but the 0.2 or whatever it was they TORTURED out of the data after 5 years, is magnitudes LOWER than cloud variability forcing< the temperature changes mentioned above had forcing that TOTALLY OVERWHELMED the pitiful so-called "forcing" from CO2

So your link is totally MEANINGLESS.

It “says” it found a tiny change in a tiny narrow band of WEAK forcing WITHIN the climate system, but warming forcing has to come from OUTSIDE the system

NOWHERE does it link anything to temperatures.. BECAUSE IT CAN’T

…..is the reason they’re here in thumbsey land arguing with strangers. If they actually had evidence, sites like this wouldn’t exist.

            I’m curious here.

If that’s how you really think, then why do you even bother coming here at all? That always puzzles me.

Why not just totally ignore us, if you (seriously) think that we’ve got nothing? If you think like that, then we’re irrelevant in your opinion, so there’s no need to address anything we say at all. It could only be because you must have some lingering doubt though, and perceive those of us here as some sort of threat, otherwise you wouldn’t even bother at all.

Why not just go to sites that confirm your religious belief structure. Then you wouldn’t have to put up with all this, unless that’s what you get off on, or you’re being paid for it.

            Tony.

Yes, I can see that and I agree with it, but we have a number of people here who have a serious knowledge base in their chosen fields of expertise.

Not only do these other people not believe a single word of what is said, they call us liars and cheats, and inflame with their constant abuse that only engenders some retaliation, but they also make up falsehoods about us and perpetuate those. They constantly change the subject to deflect away from the original comment, and then they flood the comments with their irrelevancies, usually very short sneering one liners so they can fit more of them in, so that people will stop reading or just respond only to the irrelevant comments.

I know that in opening this site up to those commenters, it shows us to be a level above ALL those sites which just ban us flat out, but they couldn’t care less about that at all, as, in effect, they use that against us. They perceive their job is to just come here and attack attack attack, and drive away people who become sick and tired of seeing what they are doing. I mean, there are probably people who would like to contribute and even ask questions, but when they see what the ‘regulars’ get in response, they just don’t even bother to comment.

They’re just laughing, and in fact, probably even informing others that we allow them to comment, so more of them can come here and join in.

                Tony.

I know what I know about my subject of expertise, and thirty years of working in the Trade and teaching it back that up, and the last twelve years of constant research and writing about it only further back that up.

I just love it when you guys come in and try to respond, but mostly just change the subject, because what was written was so far over your heads. All it does is accentuate the vast monstrously hugumungous lack of knowledge that is out there on your side of this, umm ….. ‘debate’. You really DO have no idea at all, and when I see that when it’s on my knowledge base, then I question that it might really be the same with everything you copy from somewhere else.

However, it’s those people who actually DO want to know about these things who are scared off by the constant attack mentality of your side.

Vishnu, _ with respect, I have most enjoyed your comments, especially the ones calling for tolerance from both sides.

Unfortunately many do not show tolerance and perhaps we need more university studies on it.

Ah AndyG55 is getting worked up – into the caps now – throwing random thoughts. The fact that you’re conflating radiative balance, temperature and atmospheric dynamics – well I had such laughing fit – coffee all over the keyboard. Only if you had stayed in school and done science.

And of course, the warming comes from outside the system explains AndyG. Even uttering irrelevant insights like this shows you are clueless. Gee climate science never knew that. And you’re lucky the CO2 forcing is as weak as it is – or you wouldn’t be here. AndyG would be on Venus saying “this is bunkum – this is NOT HAPPENING!! – scream – bleat …” followed by sizzle …

Glad to see you admit you are ignorant and that there is no link in the Feldman paper between CO2 and temperature.

Also that CO2 warming, if any, is basically irrelevant.

That would explain why it has never been measured or observed anywhere in the planets atmosphere.

Venus is hot because of the extreme surface pressures,

Your ignorance in not knowing that says everything that needs to be said.

You are having great brain-fades coming to grips with the fact that without urban heat smeared over vast areas, there really isn’t much warming.

The satellite record clearly shows that the only warming is coming from El Nino ocean events, so are solar forced and nothing to do with atmospheric CO2.

Vostok cores show that even at peak CO2, it failed to stop the planet COOLING, in fact, at peak CO2, the planet was always cooling.

Comprehension coming from youtube videos and ignorance of how the atmosphere works make you look like a complete and utter moron.

There is no evidence heat is being trapped in the system

          OGLWR matches the atmospheric temperature.

If energy was being retained, they would diverge

Movements of energy WITHIN the system are irrelevant.

Just like wind or convection, they are part of the balance, all controlled by pressure gradients.

Why are you SO, SO IGNORANT about basic functions of the atmospheric system, Vishy ??

Yes Vishym OLR increases as the solar energy warms the planet.

But using a corrupted data set like GISS immediately shows you have an agenda and are interested only in the propaganda aspects.

You do know that the “adjustments™” in GISS exactly match the CO2 increase, don’t you. Linear trend with a R squared of 0.99 iirc.

              NOT FIT FOR SCIENCE.

The CERES data actually matches UHA atmospheric temperature , with no divergence.

              No energy is being trapped.

Of course there has been some minor warming out of the COLDEST PERIOD IN 10,000 years

be very grateful for that fact

A series of very strong SOLAR CYCLES will do that, pouring LOTS of energy into the oceans.

Feeble CO2 so-called back-radiation from high altitude, in a tiny thin band, certainly cannot warm the oceans, only a complete scientific illiterate would think that.

At the end of the Eemian Interglacial the temperatures jumped 10 degrees in 50 years, before the long slow slide into glacial conditions 115,000 years BP.

Do you know what may have caused that warming?

EG, be careful of the sin of context. Context is simply not allowed in the strict boarding school of the green faith. They don’t cane, but, my how they can exclude.

Referring to the regular shifts from interglacial to glaciation within the Quaternary is almost as naughty as mentioning the fluctuations during the last twelve thousand years post-Younger Dryas. As for recent warming episodes like the Optimum and Saharan pluvial, that’s like breaking one’s wind in a lift. One simply doesn’t.

It’s okay to say “science” a lot, as a sort of prayer. But too much actual science can lead young climate warriors (and even old GeeUppers) astray.

Global mean annual surface temperature is predicated on total atmospheric pressure and total top of atmosphere solar irradiance.
Venus with its 1.911 greater solar irradiance (30% closer to the sun than Earth) and atmospheric pressure x90 > Earth (equivalent to 3000′ below the Ocean surface) bears not a slightest relationship to conditions on Earth.

The whole climate catastrophe is meaningless (without reference to anything in the real world). Yet, “they” continue to destroy your power network in the process of destroying your economy. Soon to be followed by your civilization.

    Why?

    130

    • #
      David Wojick

Because a lot of people believe the scare. Fitz for example. It is a massive social and political movement, like Communism 100 years ago. That climate scare is merely the latest (and by far the biggest) in a series that began in the 1950s, each bigger than the last. It is a war on fire, because fire puts out a lot of stuff. A core concept of the movement has always been “zero discharge”, which is a special case of Zero impact.

It is a negative reaction to a civilization which is messy, crowded and dirty. Ours. As it must be. It is no accident that most of the proponents live in big cities.

NO, you have made it patently obvious that you do NOT understand science, or evidence or accept facts.

You are TOTALLY UNABLE to produce any scientific evidence for warming by atmospheric CO2, just model based baloney, which are NEVER scientific evidence.,. You have admitted that fact yourself.

You are also TOTALLY UNABLE to produce any scientific evidence of any human influence on the climate in the last 40 years,

You can’t even tell us what changes have actually happened, let alone link them scientifically to human influence.

You totally IGNORE the total lack of scientific evidence, and just keep ranting the same garbage AGW mantra.

You IGNORE THE FACT that the only warming in 40 years has come from El Nino events, which have zero human causation.

Let’s see you present one paper based on empirical science, and no, not the Feldman paper which shows absolutely no link between CO2 and global temperature

“Facts and evidence” … honestly, you have to be kidding.
In the main it is worthless invalid models that are being utilised (not the accurate Russian model) precisely because there is no compelling empirical data that supports a bankrupt and vacant hypothesis that failed the null hypothesis in 1998, before the unfalsifiable term, ‘climate change’ was installed by the eco-Marxist administrators at the UNFCCC, those same folk who openly confess that their mission has nothing, NOTHING, whatsoever to do with the environment.

Yesterday more biased (and anti its Charter) reporting on Climate from ABC. The evening news in Sydney on 3/10 inexplicably had a piece about how the temperature in Guyra had warmed 2.3 deg C since 1981.

Trouble is, when you use the BOM site (which I hate) their numbers are much less for Guyra!!!

The ABC has abandoned its charter to “inform” “educate” and be “independent” when it comes to climate change. It just spews out climate propaganda that has no factual basis at all and shamelessly barracks for it.

      G’day Aussie,
It happened again last night, using RAAF Richmond, and starting in 1970. I’ve managed to take screenshots for each of the four I’ve seen and will send them to Jo on her return, together with a link which demonstrates the fraud (when I find it.).
ABC Iview let me get the screenshots of Tuesday-Friday, but alerted me to the fact it only keeps a few days available.

The obfuscation is clever. Scales are given on each axis(!), and the numbers are clear. But the display time is brief, and while the graphs look similar, the starting year in each is different, and miraculously starts with a nice low temp.

3 Oct: MarketWatch: Tesla stock reels after electric car maker’s missed sales
    By Claudia Assis
Telsa Inc. shares were slammed on Thursday, after weaker-than-expected third-quarter deliveries prompted at least one downgrade and plenty of downbeat analyst commentary.
Tesla TSLA, -4.15% shares fell more than 6% and traded as low as $224.28, but recovered some ground by session end and closed down 4%…

“To put it another way, yesterday’s announcement was the first time since covering the stock that we found ourselves wondering whether demand growth for (Tesla’s) cars might be leveling off,” said the analysts, who were led by Joseph Osha.

Analysts at Cowen, who kept their equivalent of a sell rating on the stock, went further, saying that Tesla’s year-on-year “growth story” likely has ended.
“We don’t see much to get excited about in the near term, and believe bulls need to be big believers in the China factory, Model Y, and autonomous narrative to justify valuation,” said the analysts, led by Jeffery Osborne…
Tesla has set a goal of delivering 360,000 to 400,000 vehicles this year, which means more than 100,000 vehicles would have to be delivered in the fourth quarter to even come close to that goal. Analysts surveyed by FactSet are expecting 357,000 units for the year…
Tesla shares have lost 31% this year, contrasting with gains of 15% for the S&P 500 index SPX, +0.80% and 12% for the Dow Jones Industrial Average. DJIA, +0.47%

3 Oct: The Hill: White House nixes climate change language from vehicle emissions proposal

The White House removed language calling climate change a “serious challenge” from a proposal that limits California’s ability to set tougher vehicle emissions standards, according to reporting from E&E News (LINK).
A draft of the document obtained by E&E shows the White House striking the phrase “while global climate change is a serious challenge” before explaining its rationale for why California should not be allowed to set more stringent emissions standards than the federal government…

3 Oct: WesternProducer: University’s climate change ad sparks controversy
    By Jeremy Simes
A controversial University of Alberta billboard advertisement touting the benefits of climate change has caused concern among producer groups.
The ad, which read “Beefier barley: climate change will boost Alberta’s barley yield with less water, feeding more cattle,” drew heavy criticism because many people thought it conveyed the message that climate change is good, even though scientists have long warned it is detrimental for the planet.

Following the backlash, university officials said they were removing the advertisement and that it would have never been approved if it went through proper vetting. The vice-president of university relations, Jacqui Tam, resigned after the controversy.
The ad was based on research in 2017 that found Alberta barley might improve in growth and require less water if the climate is warmer and wetter…

While producer groups support the peer-reviewed research, which was funded in part by the former Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency, they say the ad could have offered more context…
Charlie Christie, chair of the Alberta Beef Producers, said the ad was delivered poorly.
“It delivered no context,” he said.
“It delivered the message that there is an upside to climate change, but that’s not a message we want to convey. We want to convey that climate change is an issue to deal with.”

However, Christie also took issue with how the public reacted to the ad.
He said people should be able to have discussions about adapting to the warming climate without fear of being labelled as a climate-change denier…

Other university alumni also weighed in, saying they were embarrassed and disappointed by the message.
However, before her resignation, Tam defended the billboard in the university blog, writing that the university was trying to highlight the complexity of its research.
“Different, even divergent, approaches are pursued by researchers across the University of Alberta; this is necessary work, even when it challenges expectations and assumptions,” she wrote.
The university said it now plans to review its approval process for advertisements and figure out what went wrong with the barley campaign.

4 Oct: B&T” “It’s The Media’s Responsibility To Call Out Nonsense”: Barrie Cassidy On Politics, Climate Change And Alan Jones
    By Edward Pollitt
That was the message from former host of the ABC’s Insiders discussion program and high-profile journalist Barrie Cassidy in Melbourne last night.
Speaking for the first time in his role as RMIT adjunct professor, Cassidy took the opportunity to deliver a firm assessment of the current media ecosystem.
“So much of what we see and read is now straight out propaganda,” he said.
“It’s the media’s responsibility to call out nonsense when they see it, to distil the dishonest rhetoric from the debate, and to try to put the shrill accusations from all sides into perspective, not contribute to the process…

On climate change, Bon Hawke’s former Press Secretary took the opportunity to have a quip at another high-profile media personality.
“The science is in,” he said.
“The most recent was presented to the United Nations summit last week. Presented by the World Meteorological Organisation.
“Now I’m no expert. And neither is Alan Jones. But I reckon the World Meteorological Organisation probably are. And what do they say – with absolute conviction? That the last five years has been the hottest five years ever.”…

“I think it started some 10 years ago, when News Corp publications started running nonjournalists as op-ed commentators,” he said…

2 Oct: WashingtonFreeBeacon: Libs Owned Again: D.C. Journalism Museum to Close Amid Financial Difficulties
Democracy dies from lack of funding
    by Andrew Stiles
The Newseum, a self-congratulatory monument to the media located in our nation’s capital, will close at the end of the year amid longstanding financial difficulties, proving once again that President Donald J. Trump cannot stop winning and will never stop owning the libs.
The organization said it “has struggled financially for a number of years and continuing to operate in our current location has proven unsustainable” in a statement released Wednesday…

It was funded by a group of media companies, primarily the Gannett newspaper chain, to the tune of $572 million. On a somewhat related note, hundreds of Gannett employees lost their jobs in 2019 in a round of brutal cutbacks…
Unlike most D.C. museums, it charged for admission—$24.95 for adults. A paywall, so to speak. It was the first museum of its kind: By the journalists, for the journalists, and of the journalists…

The Newseum, which will remain open until Dec. 31, is offering a 15 percent discount on tickets and is currently running a special exhibit — I swear I’m not making this up — on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

20 Sept 2016: Newseum: Media the Focus in CNN Program
CNN’s lead political anchor Wolf Blitzer moderated a lively discussion Sept. 19 in the Newseum’s Walter and Leonore Annenberg Theater about the issues involved in the unprecedented 2016 election and the media’s coverage of it.
But Blitzer and his panel of fellow CNN correspondents found themselves in the hot seat when a few audience members questioned the media’s apparent reluctance to question Trump’s veracity, wondered if the media had been “taking sides” in the election, and thought coverage was “based on personality and not issues.”
“Isn’t it true that … because of yours and all your colleagues’ belief in fairness, false equivalency and objectivity, you won’t call [Trump] a liar? You won’t point out the false equivalency?” asked one questioner, to much applause.
Chris Moody, senior digital correspondent, said many people in the news media realize that “we’re playing by different rules than we have before. I think our fact-checkers have been on overdrive.”…

8 Feb 2018: Daily Caller: The Newseum Is On The Brink Of Collapse While Its Executives Receive Fat Salaries
    by Joe Simonson
The CEO of the museum’s top donor, Freedom Forum, stepped down from his position in August 2017 after failing to clean up the museum’s finances after the nonprofit put in nearly $500 million since 1997.
With hundreds of millions pouring in, the Newseum seemed to exercise little fiscal restraint. A third of the museum’s expenses were spent on salaries, benefits and payroll taxes in 2015. Top executives like CEO Jeffrey Herbst took in $259,108 in 2015 for only five month’s work. His predecessor, James Duff, earned $1.2 million the year before — all while the organization sustained losses totaling in the millions from 2011 to 2015…

Poor fundraising has led to Freedom Forum to carry a $300 million debt, raising questions about how much longer it can possibly prop up a museum that has been criticized by members of the press itself. Jack Shafer of Politico once wrote that the museum “deserves to die.”…
“It’s a slow-motion disaster,” an individual with knowledge of the museum’s finances told WaPo.

Maybe in his next term Trump will make moves towards exiting the UN and taking a like minded coterie of sovereign states into a new international grouping. I agree that would be an interesting exercise but only an academic one. The real issue is not whether the climate is warming or not. The real issue is no one is really taking it seriously enough since hundreds of new coal fired power stations are being built as we speak with many more to come. So if cutting our emissions is supposed to fix the alleged problem and the alarmists are yelling and screaming at the West for not cutting them more drastically by shutting down our coal fired plants and stopping export of coal to other nations then we have a far greater problem on our hands. The problem is terrorism against the West masquerading as climate action. It is time for our Western leaders to come out and put an end to that before it will destroy us if we do nothing. The only way to do that is to use the UN on itself and formulate an agreement for all nations to cut their emissions drastically for the common good. Isn’t that the UN’s purpose, fighting for the common good? Of course it won’t go far because countries like China will resist but at least it will expose the hypocrisy of it all. Then we all can go back to building more coal fired power stations as the alarmists are shut down (or arrested for terrorism if they continue their violent protests “for the common good”).

3 Oct: NationalFile: BREAKING: Nancy Pelosi’s son was Exec at Gas Company that did business in Ukraine
    Nancy featured in Company video
    by Patrick Howley
A 2013 interview (LINK) with NRGLab’s lead technician Zeev Drori reported that NRGLab was funded by environmental businesswoman Ana Shell, who writes about Ukraine energy issues on her blog (LINK)…
“In brief, SH-boxes are environmentally friendly generators which employs the use of poly-crystal technology to producing electricity from environmental heat. With the SH-boxes, electricity could be generated more efficiently and cleanly at a lower cost,” the interview with Ana Shell notes…

NRGLab’s website states that the company is based in Singapore and notes, “The company’s additional projects include a strategic partnership and investment from Viscoil Holdings to recycle waste materials into eco-friendly diesel fuel. NRGLab has obtained an exclusive license for the Viscoil Technology for the South East Asian region for all raw materials.”
Viscoil Holdings is currently suspended by the California Secretary of State…

***17 Jul 2014: WashingtonFreeBeacon: Company Cofounded by Paul Pelosi Jr. Charged with Securities Fraud
SEC: Environmental investment company Natural Blue Resources run by criminals
    by Elizabeth Harrington
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged a company cofounded by Paul Pelosi Jr. with fraud on Wednesday after learning that two convicted criminals were running the business.
Paul Pelosi Jr., the son of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), was the president and chief operating officer of Natural Blue Resources Inc., an investment company he cofounded that focuses on “environmentally-friendly” ventures…

Pelosi cofounded the company in 2009. The SEC said Natural Blue’s mission is to “create, acquire, or otherwise invest in environmentally-friendly companies, including an initiative to locate, purify, and sell water recovered from underground aquifers in New Mexico and other areas with depleting water resources.”…
According to Bloomberg Businessweek, Pelosi served as president and chief operating officer of Natural Blue Resources, Inc. until January 11, 2010. Joseph Montalto is listed as the current president. However, the Mountain View Telegraph cited Pelosi as Natural Blue’s president last year, and (governor of New Mexico from 1983 to 1987, Democrat ***Toney Anaya) was still leading the company as chairman and CEO at this time…
    https://freebeacon.com/politics/company-cofounded-by-paul-pelosi-jr-charged-with-securities-fraud/

***Wikipedia: Toney Anaya: As governor, Anaya focused on energy alternatives, water development and conservation, the environment, education, and economic development. Known as a visionary…
From August 2009 to January 2011, Anaya served as Chief Executive Officer of Natural Blue Resources, a Woburn, Massachusetts-based penny stock company specializing in investments in environmentally friendly companies, including a New Mexico-based initiative to sell purified water. In July 2014, Anaya entered into a civil settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission relating to charges that he committed fraud…Anaya agreed to a five-year ban from penny stock offerings and a cease-and-desist order without admitting or denying the charges.

29 Jan: Snopes: Is a ‘Nancy Pelosi Crime Family’ Meme Accurate?
And where does the ‘Pelosi Crime Family’ fall on a scale of ‘innocent’ to ‘Gambino’?
    by Dan Evon
We’ve examined each of the accusations leveled within against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, her husband, her father, her brother, and her son individually and found them to be largely overstated, misrepresented, or based on unreliable information:
The Facts: In July 2014, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced they were bringing fraud charges against four individuals involved with the company Natural Blue Resources Inc. Although Paul Pelosi, Jr. did work for that company, he was not one of the individuals charged with securities fraud by the SEC, who didn’t even mention Pelosi Jr.’s name when they first announced the charges…
Subsequent SEC filings listed Paul Pelosi, Jr. as President and Board member of Natural Blue from 24 August 2009 to 10 January 2010. So Nancy Pelosi’s son was involved with a company that was charged with securities fraud years later, he was never personally charged with a crime…

Why do you think that the Troposphere is showing less warming than the surface? After all that is what is being compared here. The 2 have completely different mechanisms for heat transport, and different capacities for heat storage.

Secondly you would expect a difference between a temp measurement in the troposphere as it is higher up, you know like mountains.

‘While the effect of solar variability on the oceans is important, the effect on the atmosphere is even bigger probably leading to more important consequences.

‘But we have to rephrase your last phrase. During cooling times Niños become more frequent, more heat is extracted from the subsurface Equatorial Pacific and moved outside the planet. This manifests as warming at the surface (where thermometers are) as the heat flux is increased.’

And since the OLR data aligns with no divergence to the troposphere temperature..

***note the “prank”. however, what was most telling was the failure of the audience or AOC to react when the individual was delivering her “rant”:

4 Oct: Breitbart: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Proposes ‘Zero-Carbon Airplanes’
    by Joel B. Pollak
“And, frankly, for everyone who says a Green New Deal is going to ground planes, I guarantee you, climate change — which threatens storms, turbulence, airplane groundings, and airport closures — will ground airplanes far sooner and far worse than any sort of climate legislation ever would if we made, for example, scientific investments in zero-carbon airplanes and flights and things like that, which, I believe, at some point, you know, hopefully we’ll be able to create that kind of technology. But it takes thinking like this to do it. So, thank you.”…

Ocasio-Cortez’s suggestion (via the Washington Free Beacon) came at the same town hall meeting at which she was urged by a prankster to adopt a new campaign slogan, “Eat the Babies,” to convey the urgency of climate change, which could end the world in the near future.

***The prank took in many observers — including Ocasio-Cortez herself — partly because the proposal resembles some of the more creative ideas that the representative has proposed to deal with the problem of climate change…
(A fringe group, LaRouche PAC, later claimed credit for the “eat the babies” prank.)

4 Oct: Gizmodo: Video About Eating Babies for Climate Change at AOC Town Hall Was Staged by Pro-Trump Group
      by Matt Novak
LaRouche PAC, a far-right group that supports Donald Trump, has taken credit for trolling Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during a town hall meeting yesterday…
Many people clearly thought she was mentally disturbed, but LaRouche PAC, a fringe organization that believes climate change is a hoax, was behind the stunt, according to the group’s Twitter account (LINK)…
      https://gizmodo.com/viral-video-about-eating-babies-at-aoc-town-hall-was-st-1838767680?IR=T

Wikipedia: LaRouche was a presidential candidate in every election from 1976 through 2004, running once for his own U.S. Labor Party and seven times for the Democratic Party nomination.
As a Quaker, he was a conscientious objector (CO) during World War II and joined a Civilian Public Service camp…
He discussed Marxism in the CO camp, and while traveling home on the SS General Bradley in 1946, he met Don Merrill, a fellow soldier, also from Lynn, who converted him to Trotskyism…
In 1967 LaRouche began teaching classes on Marx’s dialectical materialism at New York City’s Free School, and attracted a group of students from Columbia University and the City College of New York, recommending that they read Das Kapital, as well as Hegel, Kant, and Leibniz. During the 1968 Columbia University protests, he organized his supporters under the name National Caucus of Labor Committees (NCLC). The aim of the NCLC was to win control of the Students for a Democratic Society branch—the university’s main activist group—and build a political alliance between students, local residents, organized labor, and the Columbia faculty…

5 Oct: Gizmodo: The American Attack On Science Has Reached A ‘Crisis Point,’ Damning Report Shows
    by Yessenia Funes
New York University’s Brennan Centre for Justice published (LINK) the 72-page report Friday, offering proposals for how the government can better safeguard federal scientific research and democracy itself, which is feeling fragile at the moment. Two main problems are threatening democracy: The politicisation of science and failing to appoint senior government officials.

All this is especially relevant under Trump, who denies climate science and has appointed individuals to high-ranking positions who do the same…

To help prevent U.S. democracy — and the integrity of science — from falling apart further, the report authors recommend reducing the flow of money in politics. This proposal stands out because it’s in line with a growing rally cry from the progressive left, especially from Democratic presidential candidates like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders…READ ALL

4 Oct: Reuters: ‘Never give up,’ Swedish teen tells Iowa climate activists after U.N. summit ‘failure’
Reporting by Adam Devall in Iowa City and Maria Caspani in New York; Writing by Maria Caspani; Editing by Scott Malone, Bill Berkrot and David Gregorio
“As we all know, the UN Climate Action Summit was a failure,” the 16-year-old Swede told a cheering crowd just off the campus of the University of Iowa. “No matter what, we need to continue,” Thunberg told an adoring crowd that welcomed her with chants of “Greta, Greta.”
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered at the rally to listen to the Swedish activist. Some held signs with slogans such as “If you breathe the air you should care” and “Science not silence.”…
“She is the face of climate change,” said Lena Kosinski, a 21-year-old student at the University of Iowa. “It’s nice to have not only a young person, but a female leading the change.”…

Activists at the rally renewed calls for the University of Iowa to cease operations of its coal-burning plant. Iowa City Mayor Jim Throgmorton said pressure from the young activists had been instrumental in speeding up efforts toward a local action plan to tackle climate change.
A polarizing figure in the climate change debate, Thunberg is venerated by many peers and ridiculed by some critics. She is the odds on favorite to win the Nobel Peace Prize this month, though her aggressive style may turn off some on the Nobel committee…

With events such as extreme weather, thawing permafrost and sea-level rise unfolding much faster than expected, scientists say the urgency of the climate crisis has intensified since the signing of the Paris accord in 2015…
U.S. President Donald Trump intends to pull the United States out of the international deal that aims to reduce carbon emissions. Under terms of the pact, that cannot formally happen before Nov. 4, 2020.

4 Oct: White House: U.S. Unemployment Rate Falls to 50-Year Low
Since the President’s election, the economy has added over 6.4 million jobs—more than the population of Maryland. Steady job growth in combination with sustained year-over-year wage increases are not only positive signs for the economy: They also improve workers’ quality of life and incentivize previously left-behind Americans to join the labor force.

The household survey finds that the unemployment rate fell to 3.5 percent in September, marking the 19th consecutive month at or below 4 percent unemployment. The unemployment rate is the lowest it has been since May 1969—over 50 years ago. All Americans are benefiting from the labor market’s continued improvement. The lowest unemployment rates on record were matched or set in September 2019 for African Americans, Hispanics, and people with disabilities…

4 Oct: CNBC: Here’s why Trump’s poll numbers are defying the impeachment mess
A very large number of Americans don’t have high levels of trust and respect for the government, and they’re generally OK with Trump being the junkyard dog who digs it all out, writes Jake Novak.

But through all of this, Trump’s approval rating is at its highest level of the year according to the Hill-HarrisX survey, and the other major polls taken since this Ukraine phone call whistleblower story emerged show few changes from the last surveys taken before the news broke.
    How is this possible?
Anyone still asking that question simply hasn’t come to terms with why Donald Trump won the 2016 election in the first place. In short, Trump was elected to be the ultimate disruptor and to play that disruptive role as much as possible. “Drain the swamp” wasn’t just a campaign slogan, but a visceral feeling against establishment Washington in every way…

Donald Trump is different. He plays by different rules and is judged by different rules. As long as his opponents play by the old rules, he’s likely to survive this scandal and the 2020 re-election battle.

4 Oct: The Hill: Women who vandalized Dakota Access pipeline charged on 9 counts
    by John Bowden
Two women have been charged by the Justice Department with attempting to damage the controversial Dakota Access pipeline in Iowa after attacking the oil pipeline with torches in 2017.
A press release (LINK) Wednesday from the Justice Department announced nine charges each against Jessica Rae Reznicek and Ruby Katherine Montoya, including four counts of malicious use of fire, four counts of use of fire in the commission of a felony, and one count of conspiracy to damage an energy facility.
The two women admitted to attempting to damage the pipeline and nearby construction machinery at a news conference in 2017 shortly after their arrest, though they did not face charges at the time…

If the women are convicted, some counts in the indictment carry mandatory minimum sentences of 10 years in prison, with the sentence jumping to 20 years for subsequent convictions.
A spokeswoman for Energy Transfer Partners, one of the companies involved with the pipeline, told the Times that the women’s protest had crossed a line…

Hong Kong anyone?

Extinction Rebellion Wellington spokesperson Dr Sea Rotmann said the New Zealand branch would disrupt Wellington traffic with a street party and expected arrests… The event is open to the public, with a ‘family-friendly space’ for people to take part without risking arrest”. Off the topic, some amazing news from a study of rubbish washed ashore in the Atlantic ocean.

    75% is mostly Chinese
    Mostly drink bottles
    90% dated last year

So here we sit in the part of the Southern and Pacific oceans with only 2% of the world’s population and no evidence of a problem and being forced to give up plastic straws and disposable, rapidly degrading plastic shopping bags.

Why? All this virtue signalling has to stop. And we now have the world’s highest electricity prices. Why? 90% is still from coal despite the $6Billion a year stolen from our electricity bills and the total collapse of manufacturing, smelting, refining. Next they will go after farmers.

Meanwhile the BOM is fudging and omitting temperatures to prove that we should be made to suffer more to save China from overheating?

What? Australia suffered terribly in the Federation drought long before the motor car and now we are paying again to please the bankers EU and UN. Even China gets carbon money.

Perhaps the Chinese could stop dumping their garbage in the Atlantic first? Or consider it’s our garbage? Then perhaps we could stop dumping our garbage in Asia? But then again our Green electricity is so expensive we cannot afford to recycle plastic.

Medieval self flagellation Madness. Called ecology. All supported by Climate Scientology, Greta’s Grim fairy tale.

In Roy Spencer’s global anomaly map (above) for September’s 0.61˚C alleged crisis, apart from Sweden and Russia being colder than average, both China and India suffered no warming whatsoever, ie. no change; situation normal, all fudged up? Same for our little shaky isles way down in the lower-right southern ocean – no change. What’s our contribution to world plastics/pollution/propaganda? 0.17%.

Who would’ve thought so many would fall for Scientology in this day and age…

What is obvious is the trolls, warmists etc.. don’t want to debate in any meaningful discourse that represents the open nature of the scientific method, for whatever their motives are for being here its definitely not one of seeking true knowledge but to provoke and elicit the type of responses you’d see in YouTube comments made by the immature or intellectually challenged.

Yonnie the increased Greenist trolling is mostly a response to Ken Stewart’s
Posts about the BOM’s weather station stuff ups.

The BOM uses it’s network of 700+ land based weather stations to underpin it’s claims about global warming.
And then Ken comes along and does a check of their stations to see if they meet the BOM’s own guidelines for generating accurate temperature readings.

So far just under 400 checked ( with 300 to go ) and the number of FAILS = 120+
And almost all of these have been non compliant for many years. And the Non Compliances ignored by BOM.

        Big BOM WOOPS !

The temperature data generated by this BOM weather station network is thus NOT accurate and tainted by incompetence.

Nothing can be done by BOM about those stations and their inaccurate historic data. But I suspect that BOM has maybe quietly ‘appointed’ a couple of lower order hacks onto JoNova, to distract the readers here with long winded nonsense.

Sky Australia is a toxic mess, apart from a few progs in the evening. about an hour ago, they had one of their “reporters” interviewing RMIT’s ***Joe Siracusa about Trump impeachment. clearly, this guy was gung ho about the possibility; only disappointed the Dems didn’t go for it after the Mueller Report laid out – according to him – 9 roads to impeachment.

    Joe and company:

20 Sept: Guardian: ‘We declare our support for Extinction Rebellion’: an open letter from Australia’s academics
Leading academics from around the country say it is their moral duty to rebel to ‘defend life itself’
The science is clear, the facts are incontrovertible. We are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction, with about 200 species becoming extinct each day. This includes many species of insects, some of which are essential to our food systems. Many people around the world have already died or been displaced from the effects of a rapidly warming climate. July 2019 was the Earth’s hottest on record. Arctic peat is burning and ice is melting at rates far beyond even the most radical scientific predictions. The Amazon is burning at an alarming rate. All are creating devastating feedback loops, releasing more CO2 and reducing the Earth’s heat reflecting capacities.

Humans cannot continue to violate the fundamental laws of nature or ignore the basic science with impunity. As oceans rise and temperatures soar, ecosystems will continue to collapse. As resources diminish, social unrest and civilisation collapse are likely. The most marginalised and vulnerable in society will be hit first and hit hardest. And If we continue on our current path, the future of our own species is bleak…

Australia’s current climate policies and practices are dire. Rather than making the urgent structural changes necessary for a sustainable and just transition toward zero emissions, the Australian government is continuing to prop up and expand coal and other CO2-emitting industries…
In addition, we call on all Australian universities and other major institutions to immediately divest funds from all fossil fuel and other industries which are contributing to the climate crisis, and to redirect investments urgently toward the renewable energy sector and other climate enhancing technologies.
We also recognise the crucial role First Nations people in Australia and across the globe, have played for tens of thousands of years, and continue to play, in maintaining species, and caring for the land, water and air. We therefore declare our support for the urgent establishment of a treaty with First Nation Australians, to recognise Indigenous sovereignty and to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to continue protecting what they have already cared for, for so long.

I did a quick sample of these 250 academics.

Of 20 random names checked, not one was a scientist or engineer of any description

Social, humanities, law, diplomacy.. and other NON-sciences.

Just gullible activists who wouldn’t have a clue about climate except what they have been brain-washed with.

I suspect they’re not looking for converts, Bill in Oz.

They’re looking for their Get-Up pay cheques.

When Fitz provides his evidence that supports the hypothesis that man-made CO2 is the prime driver of global warming and it will lead to catastrophe, I’ll accept he has something useful to say.

When Fitz provides the refutation to the IPCC’s view that “In climate research and modelling, we should recognize that we are dealing with a coupled non-linear chaotic system, and therefore that the long-term prediction of future climate states is not possible.” (IPCC. TAR Working Group 1. Chapter 14: Advancing Our Understanding, Section 14.2.2.2. Page 771 and Page 774), I’ll accept that he has something of value to add.

Bill – sigh – typically nobody gets converted on these forums. I don’t want to convert you – you can only inform yourself if you wish to. But one can only expose some of the silly rationale. See look at your framing “Go back to BoM” – just seething with little conspiracy theories aren’t you. So you’re saying that it’s OK for your fellow travellers to dump all manner of abuse on us – years of it – publically proclaim silly ideas and not be up for a debate. At some point you could go a discussion and we can stop the heckle put-downs.

ALmsot conversely, and in the real world, society is getting more stupid and uninformed on climate change every day. So Jo’s blog is great at exposing much of the establishment silliness and asking hard questions. Extinction Rebellion for example – what a bunch of twits.

But I can’t understand why sceptics don’t do their own rolled gold Aussie climate change temperature analysis. Almost like you’re afraid to.

“you can only inform yourself if you wish to”

Yet you remains stubbornly and belligerently UN-INFORMED

“society is getting more stupid and uninformed on climate change every day”

Yes you can see them turning to people like Greta, other know-nothing Hollywood stars.

As you are showing, those parts of society that you come from have become extremely and gullibly STUPID.

      Australian climate analysis..

Warmer in the late 1890’s, proven by measurements

No warming except by Urban heat effects and shoddy surface stations and mal-adjustments., proven by looking at places that aren’t corrupted by those urban effect

No warming in Australia since at least 1996

Not much real change to analysis , is there Vishy.

“At some point you could go a discussion”

Stop pretending to yourself that you are doing anything but childish trolling.

      You are only fooling yourself.

No warming eh? – one problem – you haven’t told us why your pinup, the author of UAH, Roy Spencer, has said this conclusion is wrong.

“The UAH tropospheric temperatures and BOM surface temperatures in Australia are correlated, with similar variability (0.70 correlation).
Accounting for anomalous rainfall conditions increases the correlation to 0.80. The Tsfc trends have a slightly greater warming trend than the tropospheric temperatures, but the reasons for this are unclear. ” says Roy.

Roy has great sceptical credentials but he is not a fool. So AndyG55 here’s how this works – you make a assertion, I show you with references why your point of view is wrong, and your answer is lalalalah I’m not listening.

So talk to Roy and report back!

BTW Greta is irrelevant – if you’re revved up about that get a life. It’s just noise on the vine.

No need to refute – is true. But your IPCC cited papers are not trying to produce a future weather forecast – that would be stupid.
But I think you’ve confused an initial conditions simulation problem with a boundary condition problem. However, the chaos is not unbounded (no runaway greenhouse) and one can sample the uncertainty with ensembles. I suggest you have not understood what you’ve read.

    FakeNewsMSM gets into the action:

4 Oct: CBS: Earth just experienced its hottest September ever recorded
    by Sophie Lewis
Last month was 1.02 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the average September from 1981-2010 and about 1.2 degrees Fahrenheit above the preindustrial level, according to data released Friday by the Copernicus Climate Change Service, an organization that tracks global temperatures.
According to AFP, the organization is treating the two months as joint record-holders because the difference is negligible…

According to CBS News climate and weather contributor Jeff Berardelli, heat waves are more directly linked to climate change than any other weather phenomenon, because hot air masses “pool” extra warming, exacerbating the expansion and intensity of heat waves. “There is no doubt in the scientific community that heatwaves will continue to get worse in the future due to human-caused climate change,” Berardelli said…

4 Oct: Uni of Vermont: Talking with Michael Mann
Famed scientist to speak on climate change denial in the age of Trump
    by Joshua E. Brown
With the election of Donald Trump, denial of climate change has reached the highest level of U.S. government. “We’ve returned to the madhouse,” says pioneering climate scientist Michael Mann, Professor of Atmospheric Science at Penn State.
Mann will speak at the University of Vermont on Thursday, October 10, to address what this policy of denial means for today’s politics and the future. His talk will be held at Ira Allen Chapel, 4:30-5:30pm. The event is free and open to the public…

MANN: “And the youth climate movement is a positive development. We’re seeing powerful activism on the part of children and college students who recognize that they must become part of the discussion about policies that will determine what sort of world they will soon live in. So younger folks have seized the narrative and re-centered the larger public conversation where it needs to be: not just about science or politics or economics—but about our ethical obligation to not leave behind a degraded planet for future generations.”…READ ON

Michael Mann’s lecture is part of the Dan and Carole Burack President’s Distinguished Lecture series at the University of Vermont and is sponsored by the Department of Geology, with support from the Gund Institute for Environment, the Environmental Program, the Consulting Archeology Program, the Geography Department, and the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences.

5 Oct: MSN: REVEALED: How workers can SUE climate change protesters if they make them late for work – as Extinction Rebellion greenies vow to bring Australia to a standstill for a WEEK from Monday
by Stephen Johnson and Alison Bevege For Daily Mail
Workers could sue climate change protesters if they are late for work or suffer financially as a result of streets being blocked, legal experts say…
Employment lawyer Joydeep Hor said individual workers could ‘theoretically’ sue protesters for interrupting trade.
‘They would have to establish there has been some kind of interference with contractual relations or something like that,’ the founder and managing principal of People + Culture Strategies told Daily Mail Australia on Saturday.
‘It’s not unusual for employers to take action against unions and protesters when there are strikes.’

Queensland Law Society president Bill Potts said individual workers and companies could sue specific protesters, provided they could quantify the loss and prove there were no ways to mitigate it.
‘If someone causes a loss or a harm to somebody else, then they can be effectively sued for it,’ Mr Potts, a criminal law firm founder, told Daily Mail Australia.
‘In Queensland, we’ve had a number of people who have effectively caused significant delay and the question then is, “Can they be sued?” and the answer is yes in theory but in practice there are significant hurdles to overcome.
‘You actually have to show and quantify the amount of loss or damage you have actually suffered.’

Environmental protesters face being sued too if they interfere with emergency services and put people’s lives at risk…
Queensland Police have prepared for mass arrests of Extinction Rebellion protesters seeking to disrupt Brisbane’s city centre next week.
Acting Chief Superintendent Tony Fleming said police would use force if necessary.
‘If that is what is necessary to open up the city then that is what we will do,’ he told reporters on Friday…

The protest group is running training workshops for activists to prepare for the mass week of protests starting on October 7.
More than 8,100 people have registered on Facebook as ‘guests’ of the ‘International Rebellion Week’…

                00

              • #
                Vishnu

Troll – that’s a bit harsh. Trolls don’t normally argue with evidence – they simply rev and cause chaos. Debating someone with very different opinions isn’t necessarily involving trolling. Trolls just scream at you like AndyG does. And give some discretion – e.g. evidence for change in extreme events is overstated (IPCC indirectly says so too), Greta is just silly, Extinction Rebellion are science-free twits, 4th gen nuclear is understated and the AGW story isn’t without some issues. But bradly I would argue it stacks up.

On forecasts – well you know what a weather forecast is – a statement about hot, wet, dry out to 10 days now with quite reasonable accuracy out to 3 days. After that time chaos nibbles away and all skill is lost.

Projections are not forecasts = nobody is suggesting that we can predict 10 November 2040 weather. Silly. What climate change models do is predict the band of climate you could expect under changing solar, greenhouse, aerosol pollution, sea ice and land use change conditions. From that band of climate statistics on number of hot days, cold days, heatwaves, cold air incursions, cyclone speeds, cyclone trajectories, drought frequency, extreme rainfall is calculated. They are broad statements about future
climate from given scenarios like how humanity will if at all try to limit greenhouse gas growth in the atmosphere. They are NOT forecasts.

Weather is said to be an “initial conditions” problem – to start the model running with the right temperature and pressure observations.
Climate change is “boundary condition” problem – what goal posts can future weather ping pong between.

Consider perhaps you are hydrologist and about to build a 100 year lifetime dam. Are you going to assume with everything science knows that your historical probability of extreme events calculations is right? Are you going to ignore any modelling on extreme events?
