In Australia Climate obedience must be 100% (no matter what the evidence is)

Stating the bleeding obvious about climate science earns headlines

Tony Abbott merely states what no real scientist could argue with. Things are not quite as settled in climate science as people say. For this tiny deviation from the permitted line he is isolated and depicted in a headline as “questioning science” when he’s really just questioning propaganda lines.

The editors of both AAP and The Australian could have chosen a different headline: Abbott declares “we only have one planet”. But in headline-world, which is often the only line people will read, Abbott is made out to be saying something risky. Imagine, I am Spartacus, if every single conservative politician said “of course — Climate science isn’t perfect.” But almost none of them have the balls.

Abbott questions climate change science

AUSTRALIAN ASSOCIATED PRESS, The Australian

Tony Abbott has questioned the “so-called settled” science about climate change, a month after dropping his view that Australia should pull out of the Paris climate agreement.
skeptical scientists

The former prime minister insisted he was a realist when asked about his position on climate change during his election campaign launch in Manly on Friday.

“The so-called settled science is not quite as settled as people say, and that’s my position,” he told reporters.

“Nevertheless we have only got one planet; we should do what we reasonably can to rest lightly upon it.”

Despite this questioning, Mr Abbott said he does believe climate change happens and that mankind makes a contribution.

“We should do what we reasonably can to reduce emissions,” he said.

“What we shouldn’t do though, is turn our economy upside down in what turns out to be a futile green gesture.”

It’s hard to believe with statements so banal and ordinary are worth a mention, let alone a headline. But such is the paralyzing grip of fashion and religion in Australia.

The climate science tally of failure:

The IPCC’s top scientists can’t predict the climate on a local, regional, or continental scale, 98% of Climate Models cannot explain why global warming slowed for years, models get the core assumptions wrong – the hot spot is still missing, (that’s the only fingerprint they said mattered, right up until they couldn’t find it). They can’t explain the pause, the cause or the long term historic climate movements either. Measurements of satellites, cloud cover changes, 3,000 ocean buoys6,000 boreholes, a thousand tide gauges, and 28 million weather balloons looking at temperature or humidity can’t find the warming that the models predict. In the oceans, the warming isn’t statistically significantsea-levels started rising too early, aren’t rising fast enough, aren’t accelerating, nor are warming anywhere near as much as they predicted. Antarctica was supposed to be warming faster than almost anywhere but they were totally wrong. The vast Southern Ocean is cooling not warming. The only part of Antarctica that’s warming sits on top of a volcano chain they prefer not to tell you about.

Some scientists are behaving badly: hiding data, declines, history, adjustments and methodsThousands of other scientists are protesting all over the internet. Tony Abbott is merely saying what most engineers and geologists, and half of the worlds meteorologists, and climate scientists would say.

Climate Scientists pushing their Warming Barrow.

I have been protesting against a Climate Scientist who has been publishing a series of alarmist Articles in My Local newspaper.

I think that the paper has been publishing a “story”. to illustrate the Warmist Alarm about rising CO2 levels.

I have had no success so, far.

So Dr Ailie Gallant doesn’t have any temperature data for Heidelberg prior to 1980, is that it? Whatever it is certainly makes a travesty of the acknowledgement that data is missing for 1987-1989 and 2004.

The Article did not link well.

I wanted people to read it in the original.

Open the link, which opens on the first page, then scroll with the mouse wheel or use the arrow on the right to page three. Then click on “Highest temps for OZ” on top right to read the article full page.

As proof of (manmade?) global warming, the alarmists appear to have a well thought out methodology. (a) Go to a region on the earth where it’s hot, (b) find a location somewhere in the hot region where the temperature is near or above any recorded temperature for the general area, and (c) use the temperature at that location to tout the “hottest second/minute/hour/day/week/month (you get the idea) EVAH” as proof that manmade global warming is happening. What surprises me is that the alarmists haven’t used a similar technique to prove that man is causing sea levels to rise. Specifically, (a) wait for a windy day on the ocean, (b) over the windy region of the ocean, pick thousands of locations, (c) at each location monitor the wave height above mean sea level as a function of time, (d) search that wave-height-above-mean-seal-level data for the largest value, and (d) based on the largest value declare proof of (manmade?) sea level rise.

If readers of this blog want to berate me for giving the alarmists an heretofore “unthought of way” of proving sea level rise, have at it. I gave the issue of providing the alarmists with more ammunition some thought; but I concluded that not even the Kool-Aid drinking subset of alarmists would actually take my idea seriously. I hope I’m right.

Cleansing of “scientifically impure thoughts” sort of has echoes of the Mental Hygiene movement, which is appears to be a branch of eugenics.

        https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4579550/

        “Abstract

“The National Association for Mental Health adopted the ‘brand name’ MIND as part of its transformation into a campaigning pressure group at the turn of the 1970s. This article examines the historical antecedents to key statements made by the organisation at this time regarding the relationship of mental health with, what was then called, ‘mental handicap’.

“The National Association for Mental Health is placed within the historical context of the movement for mental hygiene. The article traces how the movement theorised mental health as critically related to intellect and emotionality.

“The movement relegated people deemed ‘mentally deficient’ from therapeutic policies based on family relationships believed to promote mental health. However, a late 1950’s experiment known as the Brooklands Study subverted this discrimination. This was paradoxical since it built on mental hygienist theorising.

“Theorisations of the relationship between intellect, emotion and mental health are still potentially discriminatory.

I don’t want you to feel alone. A week or so ago my county supervisor sent out her regular email that includes a list of acomplishments. Now keep in mind that she is someone I would vote for again if term limits didn’t prevent her from running. Anyway, she was proud of the elimination of pollution in the form of internal combustion engine exhaust. She mentioned climate change. So I sent her email saying nothing wrong with eliminating pollution but I called to her attention that CO2 isn’t pollution and I added the usual arguments you’ll find Jo presenting right here.

I was civil about it and said these are things to think about, the failed predictions and some others to make my case. I haven’t heard a word back from her since. I expect my name is mud with her right now because I challenged what the couny’s experts say about climate change. And that’s the problem. She isn’t science literate to any great extent and the experts are — guess who gets believed.

The previous post on the money processing done in the name of The Environment was brilliant.

The importance implementation of due legal process in the USA over the BioChar thing is a start but the punishment didn’t seem adequate.

Perhaps Australia can look to having politicians who override or blatantly ignore the words of Electrical Engineers and go ahead demolishing generators and endorsing the endless transfer of our tax resources to intermittent renewables “startups”, clearly identified in court as wrongdoers.

They should then be asked to justify the behaviour that contradicts science, engineering and economics.

Restoration of the billions misdirected is essential to perception of law and order in Australia.

There’s nothing like a couple 20 year sentences to discourage others who might seek to derail our nation and economy.

My hope is that the panel that Trump has charged with sorting out this gerbil warming thingy will expose a lot of the lies and false assumptions that have been made.
The world is spending $$$billions of dollars based on computer modelling. How the hell can you use computer modelling when the weather is in constant flux?

Abbott is right when he says that… “the so-called settled science is not quite as settled as people say”. Wouldn’t it be nice for some other politicians to stand with Abbott!
If politicians would speak their mind more freely we could have open and honest discussions about this subject and many others. The problem is that once you voice any doubt you are labelled a heretic. On other taboo subjects you are labelled with an…..ism problem.

The world is being run by twitter and the MSM at the moment. Heaven help us.

Trump may not normaly waste time,

He does on occasions let issues run on and on. The Wall is one example. Leaving Jeff Sessions as AG was another. Also the Mueller enquiry.

May be it is because of pushback from his own white house staff. Maybe he sees advantage in letting the problems fester so that public anger has time to grow.

Renewable energy is not a crisis issue in the USA just yet, the way it is here in SE Australia. The EPA has largely been reigned in so he may have other priorities.

I think Trump understands the realities of politics, you can’t win every fight. So pick fights you can win and then keep the opposition off balance with his unique brand of brash derision and put-down.

The man has built a business empire equaled by no one and he knows when to wait and when to go ahead. And he’s been more than a ittle preoccupied with Mueller’s witch hunt.

And I don’t known what he’s doing but that’s what his time in office so far tells me he’s likely to be doing.

The Democrats and the media are frantic for some new ammunition. AND 8 criminal indictments have been given to Attorney General Barr – from a Democrat House of Representatives cotrolled by Democrats. When the truth begins to expose your backside it’s time to either run or dig a deeper hole and crawl in. Either way you’re eventually in trouble.

It’s not only Abbot who says the science isn’t settled but the green-tards never mention any of their own who also make mention of the doubts:

      Stephen Schneider

So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we might have.

          Evening,
I know the punters are never/rarely wrong on Aussie elections, but this one hopefully will be the first.
Let’s not forget the 52% “Leave Vote” that literally came from left-field.

Has anyone ever stopped to notice that even when the shooter in a tragedy is discovered to be a leftie, the leftist media still insist on lieing and saying that he’s from the extreme right? No valid explanation how CO2, essential for all life, heats the surface of the world. To repeat myself…

#Trees, bamboo, wheat fields, pond scum, just suck it up, strip the air above of CO2 in a matter of days. See E.M. Smith, ‘Get Wood.’ If CO2 gets below 220pm, plants die. Famine and domino effect on homo-sapien ensues.

#Political Cli-Sci: carbon atom the means to a new world order of energy control. IPCC policy, UNEP directed, ‘We’re on a Mission from Guv. IPCC official, Ottmar Edenhoffer: ‘The next world climate summit in Cancun is actually and economy summit during which the distribution of the world’s resources will be negotiated.’ (14/11/11.)

#The cli-sci models don’t correlate with observations. Oh mann!!

#The science: Troposphere Hot Signature is missing in action. See Dr David Evans, ‘The Missing Hotspot.’

#Warming feedback can’t be demonstrated… Effects of clouds? They don’t know clouds at all.

#Bureau of Meteorology: adjusting the temp record to salvage the AGW theory. Darwin, oops!

      #CO2 relative to other gasses: just a teeny-teeny part of atmosphere, nitrogen 78%, oxygen 21%, CO2 0.038%.

#Likely has a slightly cooling effect: See Link, pp 5/6 below…only a small %increase in N2 and O2 is needed to raise the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere by about 3k, almost double the amount of Argon is needed to achieve a similar rise in temperature but more than 26 times current levels of CO2 are required to generate a similar rise in temperature.

“Mr Abbott said he does believe climate change happens and that mankind makes a contribution.”

UHI that feeds through into the calculated surface data, despite the fact that urban areas are only I small amount of the land surface.
Urban data is smeared over huge areas where it just isn’t valid to do so.

Plus LOTS of data fabrication and mal-adjustment.

That’s about the only PROVABLE contribution of mankind to so-called “climate change”.

Bill, I’m more optimistic than that.

More than half the people I talk to over a week tend to the view that the media are pushing an untruth on climate change/global warming; that so-called scientists – especially those at universities – are holding the party line because their jobs and comfortable life-styles depend on not rocking the boat.

Trust the people. They know that if it’s brown, smells and sticks to your boots its probably crap.

          Phil

Tony Abbott has joined the lukewarm faction for reasons of political expediency. This is prudent because half the electorate is brainwashed into thinking carbon dioxide (a tiny trace gas) is causing catastrophic global warming.

Its practically impossible to change people’s mindset on this issue before the election, so I imagine Morrison has told his troops to become small targets by avoiding any conversation on climate change. Apart from the usual reassuring stuff like we’ll meet our Paris Agreement in a canter.

Just through Coin-cidence ‘What’s Up With That’ have a post which explains this phenomenon.

    The human trait for ‘hypersociability’

We are programmed to accept stuff as GOSPEL ( Which actually is an excellent example in it’s own right )

We are programmed to believe !

We are NOT programmed to think for ourselves.

    https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/04/12/why-we-may-never-be-able-to-change-minds-on-the-climate-issue/

The BIG LIE depends for it’s capacity to work on this character trait which most humans do all the time.

And I suggest a corollary to this : Most new discoveries and insights are made by individuals who are ‘asocial’ “social isolates” simply because for these individual the approval of the herd doesn’t matter.

It is time to dust off your moldy edition of Eric Hoffer’s “True Believer”…the one buried in a box with the other college textbooks you couldn’t resell. We are dealing with a cult.

We are daing with a cult that has been adapted for social leverage by progressives, whose unwavering vision is to take control of society and level everything in favor of an enlightened dictatorship by them.

Most such have been nationalism enhanced by ‘border science’; a xenophobia and myth of racial superiority. These are not rare, but most have been small, kooky, and perhaps most importantly, not enabled by the age of social media.

Of you are over 60, you remember when the kooks were limited to mimeo machines in the garage, megaphones on the commons, and the odd interview on public access radio.

Those that gained traction usually scored one wealthy, and obviously ‘touched’ benefactor, and could gain a bully pulpit radio or TV voice.

We sometimes write these movements off as ‘hero worship’. A Bolivarian Revolution is described as a freedom movement, or a peoples revolution. But a cult commandeered for leverage by the left always works out the same.

The real true believers will endure a lot without changing their minds; opposition is seen as persecution which makes them stronger.
The ones that die are terminated by either force or ridicule. Some members are reprogrammed and repatriated.

I wonder if OZ will resolve it’s conflict with the lights on…or off. A blackout and failed restart might finally expose the folly.
At great expense. But the greens seem hell bent on getting there. And the energy of a cult, based on the absolute focus and 100% effort of the true believers, is hard to resist. At some point before the crisis, ordinary folks simply throw up their hands, “you can’t reason with these people!!”, and go back to their lives. Which are shortly disrupted in usually awful ways.

Spot on Richard. I’m not quite over 60 but it is uncomfortably close….

The trouble for us average non “progressives” is that their game is long term. Those of us that carry on working for a legitimate wage don’t have time to notice that little by precious little they have stolen what is dear. We must start to notice.

I voted for Abbott back then.

It was Abbott’s reneging which caused me to seek alternatives via preferences. (Jonova was excellent source for preferencing your vote to count)

Abbott still ‘believes’ in a carbon-constrained economy, so his flip-flop call to stay in the UN Paris agreement is unsurprising:

Nov 16, 2016, the Bolt Report
TA, 6.51: “The Abbott govt was prepared to commit to a 26-28% reduction in emissions.”
    AB: “Weren’t you wrong.”
TA: “And, I did that Andrew, because I am convinced that we can do that in ways that don’t damage our economy.”
    https://www.whooshkaa.com/episode/?id=89817

“Tony Abbott is merely saying what most engineers and geologists, and half of the worlds meteorologists, and climate scientists would say.”

    Perhaps he is.

But, he has no balls when it comes to the important call on failed doomsday global warming.

This is not about science, or the flimsy layer of it that “won’t damage the economy’.

Abbott knows that like the rest of us.

It shows the growth of the scam when Tony Abbott no longer says Climate Change is crap. It is. However to keep his seat he has to modify that to say that it is not settled science. It shows how the education of Australians has progressed.

As for engineers and geologists, meteorologists and climate scientists, you could add physicists. It is child’s play to prove that the CO2 increase is not man made. What other argument for man made Global Warming is there? And what is Climate Change if not Global Warming? It is all crap posing as science, mad up stuff by innumerate science ignorant opportunists like Al Gore and Tim Flannery.

This also shows how taking a compromising position to either appeal to the undecided, stall for time or improve ones image can backfire in the long game.

Where seldom the brash will call out the wrongdoers and fight them openly with the flaws of their claims the political survivor will always have an escape plan for saving face along with public and political image, I consider the climate change lukewarmer approach to be this and not in a negative view but one that appreciates that good plans and intentions can fail when the opponents are severely underestimated.

While personally some of the most admired people have scientifically trailed this approach the opposition will never see it that way, the complete lack of scientific appreciation, facts or outcomes will always be way down in priority to the political objective, the time to be brash about taking on the nations usurpers is now and if they need an ally or advice President Trump would oblige.

The GetUp back candidate standing against Tony Abbott is campaigning by referring to him as out of touch with climate change issues. To add to that smear he is out of touch with people because he opposed same sex marriage.

The NSW State Election result for Manly that is part of Abbott’s electorate resulted in a comfortable win for the Liberal candidate and sitting MLA however the Greens candidate ran second ahead of Labor which indicates the younger population on the northern beaches I assume. So Abbott MP must tread carefully.

On the other hand at the Sky debate at the Freshwater Hotel where about 100 people applied to be in the audience when the Greens candidate, apparently an attractive younger woman who is articulate, when she gave her final address and started with climate change there was a very loud boo response. The same response from the audience at the start when told that the GetUp Gal was a no show.

I understand that her minders were concerned that she would not perform well enough after the first debate where she was out of her depth. But not a good look, a candidate (apologies to cooks) who can’t stand the heat should not be in the kitchen.

Also Tony Abbott has been the member for many years, and a former cabinet minister, opposition leader and prime minister until deposed after two years. Shame Liberals shame.

But he is by all accounts an excellent local member, works hard in his electorate, does volunteer community work such as bushfire fighting, surf lifesaving, charity event participant, he and his wife patrons of the Many Womens Refuge and much more. And GetUp have in recent times lost their stealth fighter cloak of secrecy and have been publicly exposed many times via the media. Voters now know that GetUp’s Gal is backed by Union Labor (former ALP senior staffer campaign manager, Greens (Tim Flannery an advisor), various merchant bankers and other business people financially involved in renewables industry and no doubt electric vehicles industry, including Turnbull & Son.
