Pied Piper 2018: Australian students skip school for mass protest

By David Evans

The BBC in Sydney reports:

Thousands of Australian school students have urged greater action on climate change in protests across the country.

The students skipped school on Friday to highlight what they say are inadequate climate policies by the Australian government.

On Monday, Australian PM Scott Morrison rebuked their plans for “activism” during school hours and insisted his government was tackling climate change. …

The idea started with Milou Albrect and Harriet O’Shea Carre, both 14, in the state of Victoria. … Milou said: “We want our government to acknowledge publicly that climate change is a crisis. Stop digging coal, stop making new coal mines, switch to renewable energy.” …

Jean Hinchcliffe, 14, saw the idea to protest grow in Victoria and decided to start one in her home city, Sydney. … “Everyone, all young people, we can see that climate change is a real issue and we’re completely sick of politicians’ inaction.

Like with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, what would change their minds? How can we convince them they have been misled?

When eventually the carbon dioxide theory is proved to be quite wrong, what will this generation think? Will they ever trust the government again, as they sit in their rented apartments with zero heating and pray for the Sun to come out and warm them?

Would any of the protestors know of this: Here is a recent graph with the only reliable temperature data we have — from satellites. Satellites cover almost the entire planet, they do not rely on thermometers in artificially warming locations, and past readings are not adjusted so as to exaggerate recent warming.

UAH 1979 - 2018
The actual trend warming is 0.13 degrees per decade for the last 40 years. The climate models, from 1979 (when they first “went public” in the Charney Report) until today, predict that our rising carbon dioxide should cause a warming trend of about 0.30 degrees per decade. Indeed, the oldest firm prediction of the IPCC is from 1990, and was for 0.30 degrees per decade — at least 0.20 and at most 0.50 degrees per decade. Something is wrong, isn’t it?

What if the temperature rise of the last three centuries (the coldest time for centuries was about 1680 and the trend has been up since then) was due to indirect solar forces, and is now pooping out and going into reverse?

Who is responsible for brainwashing these kids?

The children are making the most of the period when they know everything. This can peak around the age of 18 years. After that one hopes that they start to develop their brains a little bit and realise they know virtually nothing. It’s called ‘growing up’.

Interestingly no one in government tried to meet with the student organisers and discuss where they gleaned their information from, or put forward alternative views. Still as you say Annie, teenagers know everything. I can confirm that while a teenager, I made life long decisions that where right and not open to discussion. Now in my mid seventies I still have the odd pang of regret about my unequivocally correct choices at the time.

OriginalSteve, at least when my buddies and I wagged school we had a great reason – we went surfing. Best education ever, ie. survival skills in the ocean and getting caned for it the next day… character building. The news of the kiddies’ protest made it all the way across the Tassie… gave me a good chuckle (in a sad sort of way). Meanwhile, SNOW on the way for the Southern Alps this week, the first week of summer (according to the calendar but I’m waiting for the solstice). According to my impeccable scientific observations – my diary – it will then have snowed (at least once, if not more) every single month of this year, 2018. Twelve months of snowfalls… obvious proof that we’ve finally cooked the planet and it’s so hot it doesn’t snow anymore!

Postscript: If it snows on Christmas Day, my theory of nonsense will be vindicated. If it doesn’t, who cares, it’s summer!

The multiple ‘adjustments’, seeming outright fraud perpetrated by GISS/NASA and the NOAA to cool the past and warm the present, systematically and indisputably highlighted in an excellent presentation by Tony Heller, Is The Global Temperature Record Credible?

The current generation of mindless pubescent teenagers who bizarrely march in lock-step with the establishment rather than push back against it could find themselves dealing with another ice age as the sun enters a Grand Solar Minimum. They would appear to be the least well equipped eco-muppets in human history, and likely an unwitting evolutionary dead-end.

In this video I make a detailed examination of the quality of the global temperature record, which all of climate science is dependent on. It is a long video, with lots of important historical information.

Sambar, I tell my wife that in my next life instead of waiting till she is 24 to marry her I will track her down when she is sixteen, before she gets so set in her ways.

Back to the serious. In all of the reports of the school kids’ strike that I saw, girls were interviewed. No boys.

        Does this mean that
        1. Only girls were on strike?
        2. Only girls were capable of comment? or
        3. Journalists sought only girls for comment?

In a week when much fuss was made about the big girls, it’s curious.

Girls seem more interested in the environment, could be the “nurturing priority directive”, that seems to be buried deep in their DNA….

Doesnt mean what they are doing is right or sensible ( in this case ), its likely its driven by their concern about future generations….

The context of the “We can do it!” poster is completely lost on them also, the American World War II wartime poster produced by J. Howard Miller in 1943 for Westinghouse Electric as an inspirational image to boost worker morale was needed for the very real threat of global war that knocked on the United States doorstep in 1941.

To use this image for the worshipping of a failed hypothesis promoted by globalists with the same politics the Allies fought so hard against making great sacrifices is both sad and disgraceful, I hope their teachers (term used very loosely) are prepared to accept the consequences of instilling such ideology in young minds and are willing to say nice words at the funerals of innocence easily led!

I suspect a lot of them don’t even know which direction is north, south, east, west, up, down, left, or right. there is a chance they know the difference between front and back. That difference is hard to miss. Though it is likely that some are confused about it.

They are a collection of children who don’t know enough to plan the next decade of their lives. Yet they believe they know the path the entire population of the earth must take for the next 100 years. Either that or it is empty bravado and virtue signaling to hide the fact they don’t really know anything worth knowing and are afraid someone will discover that fact.

How has it come to pass that children think that they know everything?

Are we, their parents, to blame for encouraging our little tikes? In olden days children were to be seen but not heard. Now their every utterance is exclaimed over!

None the less I think that these children are being used,

      293

Yes they are. Communists often exploit children to drive societal change. Why should the current batch of Communists in the education system and govt be any different?

Mao used children to drive his agenda, Hitler used kids as snitches/Hitler Youth, and Lenin openly used schools as State indoctrination centres.

Millennials in the U.S. have a new word just coming into their vocabulary — adulting. There are books on the subject. We used to call this growing up, but we were doing it starting around age 13. The millennials get interested in it around age 25. That’s about the time the parents can’t take it any more and throw them out of the house. We have had several instances around the U.S. now where millennials have gone to court to make the parents allow them to stay instead of adulting up. It hasn’t gone well for them so far and has produced a lot of ridicule. Sorry snowflakes.

Out West we have a phrase we use for our troubled snowflakes. We say, “it’s time to cowboy up.” Or cowgirl. It’s based on what bathroom they use, although there is some confusion about that among millennials.

In Australia our governments try hard to prevent kids from “adulting”. (Yes, that is new to me, and to my Apple spell checker, too, which after updating my OS I have to find out again how to disable it.)

This is a left wing policy, for the purposes of 1. protecting the jobs of seniors from competition, and 2. brainwashing our young adults.

Despite all their efforts and the expenditure of ever rising billions of dollars on “education”, our performance is as James reports above.

Conservative politicians have to date lacked the courage to address the problem.

We see the fresh-faced kids, we are given names, ages and comments. We see BBC and Guardian stamped on the media coverage.

It’s so obviously a stunt organised and coordinated by adults with the kids as props. In the unlikely event that a child has been allowed to harbour let alone express any doubts, we won’t get to see or hear that kid. It would be as likely as the Catholic Weekly interviewing outspoken atheists of Fourth Year at my boarding school in 1962.

We know it’s a script, the kids could easily skip the demo, go off to Luna Park or the zoo and just let the Beeb and Guardian show stock footage (of which they have mountains). It’s that predictable and pointless.

The sad thing is, even the Guardian wasn’t always this abysmal. Being a non-right conservative, I don’t spend time at Breitbart or Fox, but I’d have to say that the Beeb, Guardian etc have hit a much lower bottom…and they’re still scraping.

As for the organising “org”, it’s like I said on the previous thread: there are people who fear their individuality so much that they are only comfortable with fronts, stunts, collusion and misdirection. They find welcoming hive-homes in Common Purpose, GetUp!, Open Society, Sustainable Development and the like.

The best defense against the new collectivism is to hear many free opinions expressed by free individuals without coercion or collusion. I can be good at that. The enemy – and collectivism is still the grand enemy – is much better at the other.

I would also add to that to even understand it.
Lets start. The clothes they wear, the transport to the rally, the I phones to communicate with their fellow protestors, the houses they live in, the food they eat, the medicines when sick, holiday transport, pop music, heating in winter, cooling in summer, swimming pools, toilet facilities. The list is endless. The laughing little snowflakes think changing enery sources wont affect their life styles. The all knowing certainty of youthful exuberance. Like the dog standing on the white line watching the car approach at 100 kph, not a clue that it will end in disaster.

The kiddies have been sadly duped. Christiana Figueres let the real cat out of the bag, here:

At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.

“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,” she said.

In any case, we oldies have heard all this doom and gloom stuff before from no less than Al Gore, way back in 1989,
        thanks to our Jo!

        The Al Gore Alarm-o-rama

Al Gore has been threatening us with environmental apocalypse for more than a quarter-century. Why should we believe him this time?

Just as a drug addict needs increasing doses to produce the same effect, our global appetite for the earth’s abundance grows each year.

and insisted on drawing parallels with World War II

In 1939, as clouds of war gathered over Europe, many refused to recognize what was about to happen.

Then, as now, Gore libeled humanity wholesale. We were self-indulgent, complacent, delusional vandals. And he was our saviour. If the entire world would just stop in its tracks and take the advice of this senator from Tennessee, all would be well.

Please note that the components of Gore’s planet-saving 1989 “agenda” were not suggestions to be discussed and debated. In his wisdom, the great man had already determined what actions “must” be taken:

The 1990’s are the decade of decision. Profound changes are required. We must create a new global compact for sustainable development…

and so on and so on.

What this illustrates, dear kiddies, is that the study of history can save you from all manner of shysters filling your heads with rubbish.

As we have seen from the local trolls, the whole AGW thing and “climate change™” is purely a matter of BLIND BELIEF.

No matter the fact of the only warming coming from ocean events, release of stored solar energy (ENSO energy came from the Sun, indirectly, but NOT via CO2)

No matter the total lack of any measured evidence of CO2 warming.

No matter that they cannot list anything that has change with the climate in the last 40 year, that can be scientifically proven to have been caused by human anything.

    Just pure WILFULLY-BLIND BELIEF.

It was a meat breed sheep in the Camden saleyards, and it was more a scur than a horn, but instead of having two as usual, it had one in the centre of its head.

While on unusual visions. My wife and three of her sisters went to Uluru a year or two back. There she saw a Rainbow Serpent. Sadly her phone photos didn’t do it justice, but its head and front end were brilliant orange, merging to glossy gunmetal blue for the next half of its length, then back to orange for the tail.

A bit of research says it was a yellow faced whip snake. It was about three quarters of a metre long.

All my life I have heard of the rainbow serpent, and thought it a myth. But this little bloke fits the bill. I have never seen one, and imagine that this one might have been of unusually bright colouring, else there would be plenty of photos published.

I am not so sure it revolves around their leisure.

Most would have been driven to school in an air-conditioned car – I walked; my mother did not have a car licence.
Most would have been in an air-conditioned class rooms – I opened the windows in ours.
Most would have some sort of air-conditioning in their house – I opened the windows in ours.
Most carry a mobile phone – I made a primitive morse code key to silently communicate with a neighbour at night rather than yelling over the fence.
Most would have researched for their last project using Google using one of the many electronic media they have to access the web – I spent time in the library tediously searching through book indexes.

Electricity is so integrated into modern life in the developed world that it is taken for granted. It is only when the young have responsibility for earning to pay for their energy that they begin to appreciate its real value.

Climate change is real. The majority of people in the developed world live in a completely artificial climate most of the time where the temperature is not permitted to go outside the range 17 to 25C.

Engineers in Scotland have recently expressed concern that the country has an elevated, and increasing, risk of grid collapse combined with multiple days for recovery. Something like that eventuating will challenge the misplaced confidence in intermittents.

Global Warming is predominantly a failure of temperature homeginisation to accurately account for urban heat. Take out urban heat and resulting temperature rise at most places on Earth have been warmer in the last 100 years than now.

Distance about 1.5km. Seemed longer when I was 7yo. I think the main reason kids get dropped off these days is the perceived risk of kidnapping or some form of assault. Friends who lived further away rode bikes from about age 10 as that was usually faster than waiting for the school bus run.

In city living the likely reason distance is greater is more to do with choice of schooling than the distance to the nearest school. If they are not in one of their parents’ air-conditioned cars they will be in an air-conditioned bus or train. All forms of transport depend on carbon based fuels for their energy even the human powered versions.

In late July 2017 the subtropical ridge lost its intensity and I ran around the blogosphere waving my hands and laughing, having just observed climate change. Naturally I was ignored.

Anyway, everything is finally slotting into place and a scientific paradigm shift appears inevitable.

How did the modellers get it so wrong.

‘Here we show that the STR is projected to strengthen and move pole-ward under global warming, contributing to reduced rainfall in the cool season in south-east Australia. This result is largely consistent among 35 models examined, and CMIP5 shows a greater increase in intensity relative to position than CMIP3 did.’

You may also be interested in this from Indrani Roy (College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences, University of Exeter, Exeter, United Kingdom)

And the final paragraph says —

This study indicates that water vapor being the most important GHG has major contributions for an observed abrupt rise in global temperature during that period. Overall the analysis suggests a change in CP ENSO and associated water vapor feedback plays a very important role in regulating global temperature behavior since 1976 that also includes ‘Hiatus’ period. It identified the signal of natural origin is different to that from CO2 led anthropogenic linear influence. Interestingly, models suggest a failure to detect such signals, which provides explanations for the long-standing puzzle of global warming hiatus.

It also discussed mechanisms how an anomaly in the north Atlantic can modulate CP ENSO features. Inciting extratropical atmospheric Rossby wave, NAO has the potential to influence the AL. It has a modulating effect on CP ENSO via the pathway of the atmospheric and oceanic bridge.

Disruption of ISM-ENSO teleconnection during the later decades of last century can also be explained from that angle. As positive NAO phase and Eurasian snow cover show dominance during that period, their possibility to influence the ISM by modulating the regional N-S Hadley circulation has overshadowed the known teleconnection generated due to E-W Walker circulation from ENSO. It is consistent with the finding that during that period when ISM-ENSO known anti-correlation became weakened, the connection between the temperature of West Eurasia, NAO and ISM turned stronger. It explains why ISM-ENSO teleconnection reverted back again in the recent period.

Remember the change of +0.5 in 40 years was supposed in 1988 to be +0.5 in 10 years, 4x as much. So it didn’t happen.

Even then there is no reason to fit a straight line! A parabola would be as easily justified assuming it was a cycle and not a direct result of monotonic CO2.

What is worrying really is the assumption that this is a simple linear function. Prof Weiss’ graph shows the peak of a parabola/cycle at 2010 and rapid decay after 2020 and he has a full justification based on the well established De Vries cycle and the PDO. According to the fit which covers data for 2500 years, we will soon see a drop of 1.5C!

So I would suggest the someone is building in the CO2 monotonic growth even in drawing straight lines like this. If you zoom out to millienial time scales as Prof. Wiess has done at 8.42, it is all very clear. There is nothing unusual going on. It is all perfectly on track and all due to the sun.

Apart from these two cycles, there is no other unexplained global warming requiring a CO2 explanation. Rather the known science is that warming of the oceans stuffed with 98% of all CO2 increases aerial CO2. Why would anyone believe the reverse? Or is that a silly question for the Globalist UN?

He can’t even tell us in what way climate has changed in the last 40 years that can be scientifically put down to human influence.

Perhaps he can’t think of any other cause. Wait! I likely should have stopped with “He can’t think.” Perhaps it is worse: he refuses to think.

It could be even worse. He might think like he thinks the next person is thinking who does the same thing. It is an endless circle of zeros ending in a zero to begin again with another zero. All adding up to – wait for it – a zero!

Think of all the CO2 exhaled by everyone going around in endless empty circles. Quite a “carbon” footprint to accomplish absolutely nothing worthwhile except false virtue signaling. Meanwhile the climate changes as it has since there was a climate on earth. The climate will keep changing long after man becomes extinct. All without noticing or caring that man lived on earth for a geologically minuscule period of time.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_861us8D9M

Of course, the media now is far more centralised and corporatised, with much greater penetration into people’s lives. If another general cooling does start soon, or even the about-due decline of Holocene conditions, they’ll just stuff the last decade down the memory hole. And it’ll work. That’s the advantage of being corporatised and centralised!

I’m not convinced by predictions of imminent cooling. But when you consider 1) that the previous interglacial reached a higher peak than this one, 2) that we are nowhere near the heat and sea levels achieved early on in this present interglacial, 3) that temps in our geological era only hover around present levels about 20% of the time before reliably declining and 4) that the last little cooling blip around 1700 was a doozie…

I guess it shouldn’t be considered bad manners just to mention global cooling or the name Valentina Zharkova. We promise not to call out the school kiddies.

CT, you don’t get it… just like the seventies, there is no input from human causes that changes weather long term. Nuclear, acid rain, aerosols..take the ozone hole, there has ALWAYS been an ozone hole over the Antarctic, its just the scientists could now measure the atmosphere accurately enough to detect what is present everywhere. Like sentient nematodes living in the littoral zone..a life span of six hours, marvelling at what we call the tide. Some will spend an entire life knowing either high or low tide, some the ebb or flow…until RECORDED HISTORY shows ALL the data will the nematodes ever learn our/their atmosphere/tide is cyclic. Then comes the why it is cyclic. Early guesses will tell them that their bit of beach/rockpool is drying out or flooding, just right or disaster because their “Prediction” fits. It will take generations to record. Until then, everything is hypothesis.

Otherwise, we will just keep banning CFCs/HCFCs/CO2/C2H4…Nn…till we have nothing left to ban with no impact on what we do not understand.

That global cooling scare of the 1970’s, silly when you see it proponents, Club of Rome,Ehrlich,Holdren, crying global warming in the 1990’s. Deja vu all ovah again. Stephen Schneider even wrote a book about it:

“The dramatic importance of climate changes to the world’s future has been dangerously underestimated by many, often because we have been lulled by modern technology into thinking we have conquered nature. This well-written book points out in clear language that the climatic threat could be as awesome as any we might face, and that massive world-wide actions to hedge against that threat deserve immediate consideration.”

Nit-picking, TdeF, but a cyclic climate implies a periodic model such as a combination of sinusoidal functions. A parabola has only a single peak or trough. It would be interesting to take a set of long term temperature or precipitation observations for a sample of sites and perform a Fourier analysis to determine if they can be represented as a sum of a few simple periodic cycles.

      62

      • #
        TdeF

Yes, quite aware ax2+bx+c but it is a step away from sinusoidal which is impossible to infer from 40 years. My point is that there is no justification for a straight line either, with its implications. As you suggest correctly a Fourier analysis is appropriate on a lot of data and that is precisely what Prof Weiss has done! Please look at the video and enjoy. Yes, there are only two cycles required for a very good fit, even over 2500 years.

Somehow if that occurred it would be dubbed an extreme weather event induced by man made climate change, which was masking the underlying warming trend. They would then be able to kick the can down the road another couple of decades and the circus would continue.

I’m not entirely ignorant of science EG; it is not just the political side of it that interests me. My subjects were physics, pure maths and applied maths at ‘A’level in England in the early 60’s, with a promised place to read physics at Imperial College, which I lost owing to serious illness during my exams. I went to the local technical college (now a Blair-type university!) in an endeavour to improve things but was so bored by the slowness of other students and weighed down by depression that I completely lost my impetus to continue my studies. I haven’t ceased to be interested in all manner of science since however and life in general.

This originated in our African ancestors through the division of labour, hunting and gathering, and for 150,000 years women have been dependent on each other for safety from beastly men.

Never mind the sampling of a few years of decades just gone, a tiny slice of a tiny slice. Talk about a lame stunt.

The second most important thing we need to know about is the period of the last few million years, when humans started to pop up about the place.

The most important thing we need to know about is the epoch of the last twelve or so thousand years, when complex settlements and civilisations popped up. In an time of constant chatter and speculation about climate, that’s a lot to ignore. As I’ve said before, it’s not the elephant in the room. It’s the brontosaurus in the Volkswagen. And despite never ceasing corporate media bombardment and the ever-mounting productions of Publish or Perish academia, that very cramped brontosaurus will continue to be ignored.

Australia emits about 1% of human CO2 emissions. If you listen to the alarmists, we need to remove this 1% to save the barrier reef, end world poverty, save the world from catastrophic warming, sea level rise, severe storms etc, etc. The 70% from China and the developing world is referred to by alamists as the good CO2, which is why you never see protesters outside the Chinese embassy, despite their 30% annual contribution. Ironically, China is taught at schools as a model CC citizen and western countries as the bad guys. Ok, you were not very clear on that, however I might point of that it is 1.2% of 3% or 0.012 x 0.03 or 0.00036 (0.036%) of all CO2 emissions +/- about 12%. Human emissions are totally lost in the noise and error of natural emissions and Australia’s emissions more so. How can we “know” human emissions are significant if natural emissions have a 12% error margin?

We don’t even have a handle on the variability of natural emissions.

              Junk science.

in ANYWAy Andy? you know that absolutes never win arguments? Of course urban build up, land clearing etc have changed the climate in some way with plenty of solid empirical evidence, even if it is a a small local scale.

A simple example with published papers to back up. Large buildings change the wind direction around them. On a local scale, since that is a consistent and measurable change and not just weather/variability, it is climate change.

So please don’t treat your fellow science literates with such contempt as to use absolute arguements.

Not a good question, releasing a bunch of C14 in 1945 invariably altered the environment. The issue is not whether we change climates obviously we can, UHI micro climates, greenhouses, nuclear winter if we ever have a nuke war. The issue is how much the global climate changes in response, to which the correct answer is “we have no idea” except that we can say it’s not currently perceptible (nuke war excluded) and its totally overwhelmed by natural forces.

    Your graph is completely dodgy.

I am looking at AR1 right now (p336) and 4 things it contains prove your graph is a very poor concoction:
1/ The IPCC graph temperature projection starts at “0” at 1990
2/ The IPCC graph shows *no* slope prior to 1990/below “0”
3/ The IPCC graph clearly shows a projection of less than 1.4 degrees rise from 2000 to 2100 – 1.4 divided by 10 decades is less than HALF the rate “0.3 per decade” which you label on your graph
4/ The IPCC graph shows a projection of under 0.6 degrees warming by 2020, but *your* dodgy graph shows it as 0.8.

Finally – UAH – this is a series of *inferred* measurements of temperature using modelling.

Here is what part of the Wikipedia article says about it:
“In 1998 the UAH data showed a cooling of 0.05 K per decade (at 3.5 km – mid to low troposphere). Wentz & Schabel at RSS in their 1998 paper showed this (along with other discrepancies) was due to the orbital decay of the NOAA satellites.[6] Once the orbital changes had been allowed for the data showed a 0.07 K per decade increase in temperature at this level of the atmosphere.”

In other words, the UAH modelling has been 100% wrong before when the UAH people – for some reason – left out of their modelling the changing orbital distance between the instruments and the Earth. People who make such a bizarrely obvious mistake once should probably be expected to be finding other mistakes to make.

No, RSS uses modelling to bring the slope up, ie to create a false warming impression. The previous version didn’t add that modeled data and it was embarrassing, because it proved that the models were BS. UAH still has integrity and should be the go to source.

      173

      • #

Google joannenova and RSS UAH to find this page where I explain just how much better UAH is.

Five reasons UAH is different to RSS

UAH agrees with millions of calibrated weather balloons. RSS agrees with junk adjusted surface data.
UAH uses satellites that aren’t affected by diurnal drift to estimate the errors of those that are. RSS starts with model estimates instead.
Two satellites get opposing results (NOAA-14 and 15). The UAH team remove the one they think is wrong. RSS keeps both.
Diurnal drift created artificial warming in the RSS set prior to 2002, and artificial cooling after that. The new version of RSS keeps the warming error before 2002, but not the cooling error.
UAH uses three channels. RSS is still using the old one channel method Roy Spencer and John Christy developed.

p336 does not exist in the First Assessment Report!

This is from description for Table 5.1 page 156:

These are based on three high resolution equilibrium studies which are considered to give the the most reliable regional patterns but scaling the simulated values to correspond to a global mean warming of 1.8°C the warming at 2030 assuming the IPCC “best guess” sensitivity of 2.5 °C and allowing for the thermal inertia of the oceans. The range of values arises from the use of three different models. For a sensitivity of 1.5 °C, the values below should be reduced by 30%, for a sensitivity of 4.5 °C they should be increased by 50%

So we have 11 years to see how well their best guess of 1.8C works out.

Even when you quote fairy tales you should at least attempt to be accurate; rather than make up your own yarn.

The IPCCs most recent fairy tale heralds disaster for a 1.5C rise by 2100. Note how the scam gets spun – “Its worse than we thought but we have more time to act”. This will go on forever while gullible people are silly enough to believe it.

If you believe USA Meteorologist David Dilley then we have just reached a tipping point – the end of ~ a 230 year “Global Warming Cycle”. There are ~ 60 multi decadel cycles within this ~ 230 Year Cycle, ie ~ 30 years of warming then 30 years of cooling but the overall trend is warming over the ~ 230 year period. Dilley has the next “Global Cooling Cycle” starting now (2019). The “IPCC” and “Paris Agreement” just won’t want to know how long the next “Global Cooling Cycle” is predicted to last for by Dilley (~ 130 years). It will in due course render their documentation not worth the paper its written on. Understandably Dilley totally rejects the impact of CO2 as a driver of Earths Global Temp. Clearly the dominant player is Solar and other non-anthropogenic influences. Cool comfort awaits the “Warmists” – credibility to be shot to pieces. Even brain washed 14 year old school children will reject their “Warmist Ideology” next decade – unless they still believe in myths like Santa, the Tooth Fairy & AGW.

That’s exactly what Prof Weiss predicted. The well known 230 year De Vries solar cycle plus the 60 year AMO/PDO. An induced oceanic oscillation. The next minimum will be in 2070. No explanation is really needed. Existing known cycles fitting the facts perfectly without any contribution from CO2.

The scam has only a few years to run. Watch them then blame the cooling on CO2.

Dean’s been at it a long time:

2007: Mount Alexander Sustainability Group: An Inconvenient Truth
        FILM NIGHT BREAKS RECORDS
On Thursday the 23rd of November over 300 people packed the historic Theatre Royal cinema in Castlemaine for a private screening of the Climate Change movie “An Inconvenient Truth”. “It is the biggest crowd we have had at a film screening” said David Stretch, proprietor of the Theatre Royal.

***Project Coordinator for the Mount Alexander Sustainability Group, ***Dean Bridgfoot, was very pleased with the evening; “this is the most pressing issue of our time, and it is obvious that people want to know more and want action”.

The crowd consisted of a wide cross section of the Mount Alexander community including business people, farmers, orchardists, school children, health and social workers and the elderly. Dean said, “We invited as broad a cross section of people as we could, as climate change affects us all. One patron told me she had never seen such a broad mix of people at one event in Castlemaine, and that was important”.
Dean went on to add that the film night was just the beginning, the next step was action. “We have to act soon to prevent climate change further damaging our water supplies, farms, businesses and environment, and the Sustainability Group will be working with as many people as we can. We have some great programs that will help people reduce their greenhouse pollution and we know that the creativity and ingenuity of this community will do their bit in finding other ways of cutting greenhouse pollution”…

The film night was sponsored by the Mount Alexander Sustainability Group in partnership with Coliban Water, Origin Energy, Department of Sustainability and Environment, Mount Alexander Shire Council, North Central Catchment Management Authority, Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance and local businesswomen Belinda Gross.

It is instructive to look at Michael Mann’s hockey stick graph in this context. Even as late as 2009 Scientific American was stating that his novel mathematical extrapolation was valid. The Guardian as late as 2010.

It showed a future climb of +0.7C to Y2000. I would guess we should now, 20 years later be at least 2-3C warmer, but no one says sorry for making it all up. With 40 years of hindsight, rapid and substantial cooling and warming theories were both nonsense. However the intense research has concluded that the major cycles of 250 and 60 years mean a rapid drop in temperate soon, to a minimum in 2070. It shows the value of made up data in science. Zero. The cost however can be measured in trillions of dollars.

This is all a part of progressive programs like the USs CommonCore primary education. Old dead and buried socialist Karl Marx and his Communist Manifesto (~1840s) along with old dead and buried socialist Saul Alinsky (US) and his Rules for Radicals (1971) and How to Create a Socialist State, all predicted events like this, without Nostradamus. Channeling Marx, Linen, Stalin, Mao, Ho, Castro, …and their minions and sheeple. Are we ready for the USSA ??? I’m NOT. It’s time to [Snip].

    We keep discussing the man-made global warming hoax but we tend to forget what has been admitted;

    2/10/2015
Economic Systems: The alarmists keep telling us their concern about global warming is all about man’s stewardship of the environment. But we know that’s not true. A United Nations official has now confirmed this.

Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added: “This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”

The only economic model in the last 150 years that has ever worked at all is capitalism. The evidence is prima facie: From a feudal order that lasted a thousand years, produced zero growth and kept workdays long and lifespans short, the countries that have embraced free-market capitalism have enjoyed a system in which output has increased 70-fold, work days have been halved and lifespans doubled.

Figueres is perhaps the perfect person for the job of transforming “the economic development model” because she’s really never seen it work. “If you look at Ms. Figueres’ Wikipedia page,” notes Cato economist Dan Mitchell: Making the world look at their right hand while they choke developed economies with their left.

Have the government build a small town, that people can go spend 10 days at. A 100% green village.
I suspect it would be wildly popular for young people to go in groups.

Besure that their is ONLY green electric so that their wifi shuts off. Don’t allow any cell towers to
connect either when green electric is off.

Make sure that cooking is also not fossil fuel dependant.

Also have them bike in Up-hill say 12 miles to start. Make sure that water is generally pumped by hand to
save on the electric since they will find out when it runs out.

Set up a huge bank of lead acid batteries of varying ages so the probability of a battery failure is high
and they have to figure out which one it is and replace it as well.

Have a warm brightly light house and rec. area just outside of the perimeter of the Green Village where they
have to punch their ID card that post up on big board that they gave up on Green and decided to enjoy life.

The other Leader board of course would have the kids who used the least Green Energy and didn’t give up, but also how much
they really actually had to pay for that energy, vs the kids who ‘went next door’ and enjoyed life.

And as an incentive, you can have a pot of money in their cost that gets refunded to them if they don’t use it all
EVEN if they ‘go coal’. Not only would the coal people be warm, have the internet and warm showers, they would get a bonus
refund at the end! But it would pretty much be assured that the bonus pot would be gone in 10 days if they tried to go Green on electric.

The whining kids could backfire on the left, much the same as similar experiences during the US elections when Trump eventually won. The jury is still out though as to the sentiment of the general population. I’m not yet convinced either way. We will have to wait for the great litmus test of the next federal election to determine if the people are aware and react like our US counterparts in the US when they elected Trump as President, or there are still too many who are asleep, gullible or simply don’t give a damn. Of course we don’t have a Trump to reflect the exact same scenario as the US experience. The best we can hope for is for a massive rejection of both major parties with the ACP and ON at least in control of the Senate and the same holding the balance of power in the lower house. If neither happens we are definitely doomed. As for the LNP I sincerely hope it disappears from the political scene so it can be replaced. It’s no longer salvageable – too many career politicians who are biased to the left. As I hinted though, perhaps Australians have fallen in love with the left and the nation is destined to become a socialist state, so the next federal election will be a very significant litmus test.

The students skipped school on Friday to highlight what they say are inadequate climate policies by the Australian government.

I have a question for those students and I’ll ask it even though I think the protest was organized at a higher level than student.

Question for protesting students: If you know so much why are your parents and the taxpayers of Australia spending so much money to educate you in those classes you so easily skip for “good” cause? Could it be that you don’t know even half what you think you do?

Australia should close those schools and let you find out the hard way that you’re as ignorant as the nearest fencepost. The money could be used to pave roads or repair sidewalks and I’ll bet that any hospital in Oz could put that money to better use than you are.

The kids dont know any better..the brain dead car owning..fossil fuel powered home owning adults that were there helping them are the problem.
I noticed dick smith pretending he wants to run for politics..he wanted the real cost of renewables to be disucssed..I thought how odd. This is the same guy that purchased an electric car to save the planet. And then had to have it spelt out to him that fossil fuel was used to power it at his home.So..Mr Deep thinker then went and bought a load of panels.
If you asked him how many years it would take for both to be “carbon neutral” he would look puzzled..then dick blew his cover and said he wanted some form of polling to find out what kids want..who cares what they want Dick..

Another homework assignment for those brainwashed students.
The Paris climate agreement aims to restrict global warming to within 2℃ above ‘pre-industrial levels’ (or more recently to 1.5℃). Why use such a poor baseline? Temperature measurements in pre-industrial times are now regarded as archaic. Why not use the current temperature as a baseline?
Surely it can’t be that reporting an increase of just 0.5℃ to 15.5℃ can be presented as “catastrophic’? Or are we already living in catastrophic times compared to the utopia of 1750 or 1850 temperatures?
And please explain how people are able to live comfortably in places like Moscow with an average temperature of 6℃, and in Singapore with an average temperature of 26℃.

Off topic, but don’t miss out on the pre-Christmas wholesale electricity sale on today only from AEMO.
In SA, you will be paid $1000/MWhr to take electricity as the wind is blowing and delivering 1200 MW while demand is just 500 MW. But come this evening, demand rises to 1200 MW and prices will be back to the normal $100/MWhr.
And in Vic, lunchtime electricity is available for just $8.95/MWhr. (not available to NSW/Qld buyers).

Southern Australia needs some warmer weather so the air-con demand picks up; maybe by next week!

SA is in the mid stages of demand collapse. It is cheaper to make your own than buying it from the grid so more people are making their own. When the wind does blow there is all that grid scale generation with nothing to do; prices collapse. But the gas turbines are needed to keep the grid stable so must be paid special rates outside the energy market for that stabilising service. That can be overcome by installing more batteries and a few synchronous condensers. The down side of course is it all costs more. That leads to higher power prices and more people are encouraged to make their own. SA network is a dead duck economically. The fundamentals are (a) wind and solar have negative benefit of scale due to the high transmission costs (b) diversity is a fairy tale that exists in the mind of hopium afflicted grid consultants.

        ——-

Hmm, you need some pretty nasty chemicals to get a decent energy density

        A fairly benign system … 20 Ton in a 20′ shipping container:
will do 300kW for 1 hour or, 100kW for 5 hours
probably hold a up a 10 storey city building for an hour or 2 depending on the season and what you wanna keep running

Friday’s peak demand in Vic … 5000 MW
from 3pm to about midnite the average is about 4500 to 5000MW
        something like 40 GWh

I think that works out to something like 65000 batteries, I mean shipping containers

        …wonder what one costs

Who is responsible for brainwashing these kids? Part 2:

GetUp…and the media (the “big” MSM wouldn’t make the mistake of mentioning a GetUp connection, though):

30 Nov: The Brag: Jean Hinchliffe on encouraging students to walk out of school
    by Alasdair Belling
For many school students, Friday morning is a time that involves making lunch, checking that all homework is done and counting down until 3 pm when the weekend strikes. But for Fort Street High School student Jean Hinchliffe, it involves ***slotting in calls from journalists about her involvement in the upcoming #ClimateStrike all before she heads off to school…

***Jean, the organiser for the Sydney event, isn’t a stranger to activism, having already dipped her toe in the water for GETUP in the past…
“I got involved with some calling for the ‘Yes’ campaign, mainly calling people who would likely vote ‘yes’ and getting them to guarantee that they would actually vote,” She says. “From there I’ve done a lot of activism, so for younger people, it’s a lot easier than they expect, but a lot of younger people feel like it’s [activism] just for adults.”…

It doesn’t matter what your age is if you want to get involved. Jean stresses that when it comes to taking a stand, she feels “confident because everyone who participates in activism is so encouraging. Getup gets quite a bit of hate from 60-year-old men saying that we’ve been brainwashed, but I actually find that really funny.”…

***“It’s difficult to tell when I got into caring about climate change…through primary school, I remember learning about it and hearing about it from then.” reflects Jean…

“I haven’t had any trouble, most teachers have been really supportive,” says Jean. “However, I was chatting with a girl who’s organising the Perth event and her teachers said that she would be suspended if she took part in the strike…
“Shortly afterwards they said that because it was a good leadership opportunity, she could take part, but not tell any friends or promote it at all. Adults assume kids are only doing it to take the day off, but to be honest, that’s not what it is at all- we all really do care about these issues.”…

Jean runs thing at her school!

29 Nov: Junkee: Meet The Kids Who Are Skipping Schools Australia-Wide To Call For Climate Action
    by Sam Langford
When I called Jean Hinchliffe at the time we’d agreed on for an interview, she was in class at Fort Street High School in Sydney. In the background, I could hear a teacher querying Jean as she stood up and said ***“sorry, I’ve got to do an interview,” and left the classroom…

The events are inspired by and organised by the students themselves, with some help from organisations like the ***Australian Youth Climate Coalition…

Once Jean made it out of her classroom, she told me that she first got involved after a friend sent her a text telling her about a strike planned for Melbourne. “I was really excited by it and thought it was a really excellent initiative, so I immediately sent an email and said I’ll organise a Sydney one,” she said…
“It was a lot of work,” she said. “But I personally see climate change as the biggest threat to my future, and that is really scary.”…

Eleven-year-old Lucie Atkin Bolton, who is school captain of Forest Lodge Primary School in NSW and will be speaking at the Sydney rally tomorrow, summed up that fear very quickly when I asked her about it.
“I feel lots of fear,” she said simply. “It is killing our planet. Soon, there could be no such thing as Antarctica. The Great Barrier Reef could be black and white before we know it. There could be no such thing as polar bears. There are islands disappearing. It sounds like I’m being dramatic, but with the rate we’re going, it could definitely happen.”…

And make no mistake, ***these kids know what they want. As Lucie told me, “the biggest thing I’d like to see is definitely one hundred percent renewable energy. Things like solar panels, wind energy, hydroelectricity, wave energy.”
“Obviously I’m not the one that made this up, but something I thought was a very good idea for Australia is solar panel farms. We have so much space in Australia which is desert — it’s really sunny, with so much space, and it’s absolutely perfect for solar panel farms.”

“And obviously, we have to think about the Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders who own the land, but we could always negotiate with them,” she went on. “They could get some of the profits. Really, I think it’s stupid that no one has really brought it up in Parliament or thought about it. It’s such a simple, easy idea — I just explained it, and it works perfectly, so why can’t the politicians do it?”

The Environment Committee is a student body that was formed in late 2007 by Paul Pagani, a teacher at the school. The Committee currently has over 20 members ranging from Years 7 to 11, and is led by a President. The Environment Committee works in partnership with other schools in the local area, such as Petersham Public School and Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. In a nod towards the school’s heritage, the Committee worked closely with the Observatory Hill Environmental Educational Centre, including the planning of EcoTour 2010.

The Committee’s past and present projects include running a Recycling Program run with the assistance of Visy Industries, installing two Water Tanks (each having a 2000L capacity), installing 6 1.5 kW Solar Panels, regenerating plants with indigenous natives along Andreas Street, controlling a worm farm and running the annual Earth Hour. Future projects include a vegetable patch, a herb garden new water bottle refill stations and further recycling of aluminium and plastic…

So the next step will be to move the voting age to 5. Properly instructed by their teachers and they by their Unions, there is nothing a nation guided by 5 year olds and even teenagers cannot do to remove the conservatives and install a truly democratic system. An end to rich educated types like doctors. Everyone will live in a workers’ paradise guided by primary school teachers like former VIctorian Premiers Joan Kirner and Steve Bracks. Steve taught swimming to primary school children. Current Premier Daniel Andrews is also a Wiliamstown boy who cut out the job business and went straight into politics.

Then all the countries of the world will have overthrown the ruling classes, the oppressors and replaced them with the ruling classes of the United Nations and EU, Washington, Canberra, Brussells who can be trusted because no one has been elected. Unlike politicians, they cannot lie because they have made no promises. They cannot steal because they have it all, the elite.

Of course that is why Canberra is totally wind powered and just earned a cool $34million in their budget from the electricity bills of other Australians in LGC certificates which they exchange for your cash. Their last move once they have real power is to remove the offensive term public servants and replace it with a less servile tag, public masters. You have to love the swamp. Or else.

Down here because of the space taken, apologies mods if its too long.

Kevin Donnelly, The Daily Telegraph November 30, 2018

It beggars belief that children as young as 8, 10 and 11 are now climate change experts and are striking to protest against the Commonwealth government’s supposed failure to stop man-made global warming. Instead of being in class learning about what constitutes evidence-based research and that the science is far from settled, students are calling on the government to stop the Adani coal mine and go to 100 per cent renewable energy — represented by unreliable and costly wind and solar power.

That students have been indoctrinated by teachers to mimic deep green alarmism should not surprise.

Since schools embraced Al Gore’s fake science about the impending disaster caused by global warming in 2006 students have been given a steady diet of propaganda.

That the national curriculum mandates sustainability and the environment as one of the three cross-curriculum priorities further explains why students are so biased and uniformed.

One student wrote about the strike: “In school, we have seen the raw truth of climate change; videos of our dead and dying Great Barrier Reef, increasingly shocking statistics, forecasts of a worrying future.”

Another student aged 10 argues: “Australia must take action on climate change now before more species become extinct”, while another is terrified that “whole islands will disappear”.

The reality is that education is no longer objective and impartial.

Politically correct activists are happy to argue teachers have every right to inflict their personal political viewpoints on students.

And the Australian Education Union also endorses classroom political activism, best illustrated by its call at the start of the 2003 war against Iraq where it urged teachers to “take action in your workplace and community” and to “Support students who take an anti-war stance”.

Dr Kevin Donnelly is the author of How Political Correctness Is Destroying Education.

2 Dec: NDTV: AFP: At G20 Meet, Trump Reiterates Decision To Withdraw From Paris Climate Agreement
A final communique adopted at the G20 Summit said the “United States reiterates its decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement”.
A final communique adopted after all-night haggling in the summit in Argentina said all other G20 members agreed to implement the “irreversible” Paris Agreement on climate change, while respecting different paces of economic development.

***But it said the “United States reiterates its decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement,” mirroring the divergence seen last year when Trump shocked the global community by bucking the consensus at his first G20…

The statement also omitted pledges by the G20 to fight protectionism and uphold multilateral trading rules, which used to be a mainstay of the world’s leading economies pre-Trump.
Instead, it merely recognized the “contribution” of the “multilateral trading system,” and added that it was “falling short” in goals of growth and job creation…

Trump’s determination to plow on with his “America First” agenda stands in contrast to the alliance-building presidency of George Bush, whose death Friday triggered a rare show of unity from G20 leaders…
But in a rhetorical olive branch to Trump, Xi pledged at the G20 to do more to open up China’s economy.

The statement finalized after the two-day summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, calls for reforming the World Trade Organization but does not mention protectionism because the U.S. resisted those discussions, according to The Associated Press.
The statement also says that 19 leaders reaffirmed their commitment to fighting climate change through the Paris agreement, with Trump being the sole holdout.
    The agreement is nonbinding…

even if one doesn’t agree with everything Bierre has to say, at least this piece is INFORMATIVE:

30 Nov: Sputnik: Yellow Vests: No Coincidence Macron, Merkel and May are in Dire Straits – Journo
    by Ekaterina Blinova
The ‘yellow vest’ upheaval has exposed longstanding problems in France’s economy, Christine Bierre, French journalist and chief editor of Nouvelle Solidarité, has told Sputnik, adding that to heal these wounds, the French need to get rid of Brussels’ diktat and take back control of their financial system.
The ‘yellow vests’ protests are continuing to gain momentum in France, with about two thirds of the French supporting the unrest, according to the latest OpinionWay poll…

‘Over a year, diesel prices have increased by 23 per cent and those of gasoline, by 15 per cent. These hikes [in prices] hit those who live in rural areas and who need energy not only for their cars, but for tractors if they are farmers, boats if they are fishermen, trucks for transporters, fuel for construction workers and for heating’, the journalist said…

‘Concretely, expenses for energy have gone from 12 per cent per household in the 1960’s, to 30 per cent in 2018’, Bierre stressed. ‘For a couple with two kids using a diesel car and fuel to heat, taxes increased last year by 600 euros; the price of diesel for tractors went from 50 cents a litre to 87 cents, so a farmer using 20,000 litres per year, will pay 7,400 euros more in taxes on energy’…

‘Along with the energy price increases on international spot markets, the real culprit behind the huge rise in energy prices is the tax on energy products, TICPE (Taxe Intérieure de Consommation sur les Produits Energétiques), created in 2000, and used by the state to heavily improve its tax revenues’, she elaborated.
Bierre explained that today this tax ‘represents 57 per cent of the price of diesel and more than 60 per cent of the price of gasoline, mainly because since 2014, the TICPE includes a tax to finance the costs of the energy transition.’

‘This is a progressive tax that grows every year according to a supposed price of carbon per ton of CO2, which is to reach 100 euros in 2030!’ the journalist remarked. ‘In 2015 it was at 14.5 euros, in 2017 — 22 euros in 2017, in 2018 — 44.6 euros and so on.’

She stressed that Macron’s predecessors relied heavily on the taxation of their population to finance their programmes and lately the energy transition, but the incumbent French president ‘is, no doubt, the most outrageous.’…

‘The “yellow vests”… have rejected the participation of all political forces as such, and kicked out far right and far left elements attempting to infiltrate them’, she highlighted, adding that the movement had emerged spontaneously protesting against the austerity policies which originate from the 2008 financial crisis and earlier economic strategy…

According to Bierre, these protests ‘have the potential of a revolutionary movement.’
‘Will the government resist all the pressure, due to the lack of organizational structures and experience [of the protesters]? Perhaps; but it has definitely become the first serious call to bring an end to the arrogance of the Paris elites of the post-De Gaulle era’, she said…

The journalist believes that it is no coincidence that the leaders of major European powers — Germany, France and the UK — are currently facing economic and political difficulties triggering speculations about their possible resignations or early departures.
‘In fact Europe is suffering from the refusal of the Western world to deal with the consequences of the 2008 financial crisis, and with the inequalities created by the financial globalization of the last 30 years’, she opined. ‘Like in the US, in Europe, the middle classes became impoverished during this process, and the poor became even poorer.’

The situation is complicated by the diktat of Brussels, she underscored, adding that EU member-states’ financial systems are being controlled by the European Central Bank, which exerts its supranational authority on the nations.
‘The situation in Europe is worsened by the fact that by adopting the EU supranational treaty, all nations gave up their sovereignty (LINK) in all matters and today are like bodies with no heads! As we see in the case of Italy, a non-elected EU Commission is trying to rule over a duly elected Italian government, to forbid them from carrying a policy of investment to create jobs’, Bierre said…

    Seeking a cure
So, what steps should be taken by the government to fix the current situation?….(BIERRE’s SOLUTIONS NOT NECESSARILY THE RIGHT ONES. DITCH PARIS NOT AMONG THEM)

Think about what started the problem – the govt.

If the protests turn violent, they will declare the yellow vest protestors as “domestic terrorists”, then its on……

1 Dec: Breitbart: Macron on the Brink: Water Cannon, Tear Gas, and Stun Grenades as ‘Yellow Jackets’ Storm Security Cordons
    by Jack Montgomery
Riot police have deployed water cannon, tear gas, and stun grenades against protesters on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, France, as the “Yellow Jackets” stage their third major rally against President Emmanuel Macron’s “green” tax hikes on fuel.

The clashes on the famous avenue leading to Napoleon Bonaparte’s iconic Arc de Triomphe come as Macron is in Argentina for the G20, threatening to disrupt a planned trade deal between the European Union and South America’s Mercosur bloc over a disagreement with Brazil’s new president Jair Bolsonaro — dubbed the “Trump of the Tropics” — over a disagreement on climate change…

UPDATE via the Associated Press, 3:35 p.m. (local)
Dutch police have closed off the parliamentary complex in The Hague after about 100 yellow jacket protesters gathered outside.
As the fuel price protest that began in France last month spread to another country, Dutch demonstrators on Saturday gathered outside the historic parliamentary buildings to protest government policies.

After the demonstrators initially refused police efforts to move them to a nearby park, officers blocked the archway leading into the parliament.
As some of the protesters melted away, police on horseback and in vans later shepherded the remaining yellow jackets away from Parliament.
Dutch media reported that two protesters were detained by police in The Hague and that another protest leader was detained in the southern city of Maastricht. Police in The Hague did not immediately return a call seeking confirmation.

30 Nov: Voice of Europe: Yellow Vest protests spread to the Netherlands: Protests announced in at least two cities
The mostly working class protesters from France, have already seen their protests spread to Belgium’s Flanders and Wallonia.
But now the Dutch have announced protests and people will hit the streets in the city’s of Nijmegen and Den Haag (The Hague), the Post Online reports.
It’s not clear how big the protests will be as in Nijmegen 23 people are said to have joined the movement. Its organiser Danny Cornelissen expects around one hundred people and registered a demonstration at the municipality.
For The Hague, the city of the Dutch Parliament, it’s probably a different story. Their Facebook account has seen a massive growth in just a few days.
Its members want the referendum back and are against the UN Migration Pact. They also want lower taxes and more subsidised housing.
The yellow vests in the Netherlands also protest against higher price rates and increasing poverty and see the protests as a way to “show society that the working class have trouble to pay their bills”, the groups say on Facebook.
In The Hague, between 1,000 and 5,000 protesters are expected, according to organiser Jody Proef. The marches in Nijmegen and The Hague will start at 11 am.
On Friday protests in Brussels got completely out of hand as several police vehicles were set alight and streets were ransacked…

1 Dec: Voice of Europe: Macron is a disaster: Approval rating drops to new low of 23%
    By Laura Cat
President Emanuel Macron seems to be taking the lead balloon approach to popularity. His approval rating has been in free-fall and has dropped another (-3) to a shockingly new low of 23 per cent in Viavoice’s 29 November poll.
In fact, as a favour to Mr. Macron, I will share the only number of his that is on the incline, his DISAPPROVAL rating is skyrocketing to 69 per cent!…
With the Yellow Vest movement in full swing, in fact, inspiring similar movements in other European countries, one has to wonder what it is that Macron is not seeing.

The only numbers increasing are Yellow Vest numbers, working-class protesters fighting back against the elites in government, the movement originating in France protesting Macron’s rise in fuel tax and calling for his resignation, but swiftly spreading to Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
Perhaps it wasn’t his best decision to, at the centennial Remembrance Day celebration – the day to remember those who lay down their lives for their nation, the ultimate nationalists – to state that ‘nationalism’ is treason…

news.com.au headlines that “Trump goes rogue on Climate”.

Really? China outputs more than the whole of Europe and America together and no one says anything and China agrees with Paris? That’s because they are posing as victims of ‘historic CO2’.

The reporting is all about ganging up on America for the cash, nothing more. What is odd is that news.com.au openly pushes such an intransigent anti Trump agenda. Politics for children. Anti Abbott too as the reporter said yesterday that it was time for Abbott to leave. That’s not reporting.

In the same childish commentary it’s also clear that when Turnbull and friends plotted against King, Nelson and Abbott it was fully justified but removing genius Prime Minister Turnbull was high treason by the ‘extreme right’.

Scott Morrison signs the Paris Accord. A fifth column act w/out the approval of the Nation’s people. Government from afar by non-elected swill. There’s a Quadrant Magazine article by a Professor of Law at Queensland University, James Allan, ‘The Problem of Creeping International Legal Rule,’ September 2016,* that explores the ways in which two kinds of International Law exert undemocratic influence on domestic law.(* Should be available online but Google tells me ‘No,’)

The first is by way of ambiguously phrased UN International Treaties that play an increasingly large and influential role in determining judicial outcomes compared to less ambiguous, domestic regulations, international treaties which have been formulated without any citizen input. The second type of international law, known as customary law, is a non-treaty sort of international law that can flow on from treaties and have influence on local judicial decision making although it has never been agreed to by any accountable legislators. Who gets to make these decisions are publicists, legal academics who have no democratic warrant whatsoever, and as James Allan points out, as a group ‘may well have political and moral views that diverge from those of the general public.’ And James Allan notes, regarding the election of this group of people into the International Court of Justice, many of them from non-democracies, a great deal of horse trading takes place, a method of selecting International Court judges that Allan describes as ‘opaque,’ The article is a detailed description of ways, via International Law, that a nation’s voters are overwhelmingly locked out when it comes to resolving debatable social policies.

It would seem the question is not whether ScoMo is a cretin, but rather what manner of cretin he is.

Of all the vital topics he could have brought up with Theresa May, he instead chose to revive the controversy over the Oz embassy move to Jerusalem. I don’t know whether this is his hyper-religious zeal talking or merely his political incompetence. I’m no fan of kowtowing to the likes of Indonesia or Malaysia, but nor is there a need to pull the tiger’s tail for absolutely no reason. Like, maybe talk trade with Tess, Scott. If Brexit actually happens despite May’s best efforts to thwart it, trade with Britain will be a big deal.

Meanwhile he makes a big show of re-committing to Paris and conducts trade negotiations with the sharks from the EU as if it had a long term future while it falls apart in front of our eyes. This monkey needs a handler.

Anyone who imagines that the Liberal Party can be revived with its present incumbents is having themselves on. Abbott will not be PM again at the head of the Libs. They are history. The best outcome is if the true conservatives split from the Libs and form a loose coalition of Pauline, Cory, plus the Libs that have been/are soon to be disendorsed, plus a few others like Andrew Hastie and Angus Taylor who will find it increasingly awkward to stay amongst the Leftist rabble. It may be that the senate is all they can hold, but that’s good enough for the next Labor term. They can torpedo the worst of Labor’s excesses from the Upper House.

Jim Molan is waiting for ScoMo to bump him up the senate ticket into a winnable position, just as Craig Kelly is expecting a reversal of fortune via prime ministerial decree. Good luck with that Jim and Craig. As if a bumbler like ScoMo could seriously challenge the back-room power of a snake like Photios and branch-stacking by the Liberal Far Left aided and abetted by GetUp (at least in Abbott’s electorate). If Photios gives ground now it will only be because he has a bigger counteracting strategy in mind. Watch that space.

30 Nov: GWPF: Britain’s Deadly Energy Madness: Excess Winter Deaths In England And Wales Highest Since 1976
There were 50,100 excess deaths in England and Wales last winter, when there was a prolonged spell of extreme cold, making it the highest number since 1976, figures have shown. Many more people are going to bed early to keep warm and using candles to save on electricity. People struggling to heat their homes are also spending their days in heated spaces such as libraries, cafes or even A&E to avoid the cold…

no mention of electricity prices; “spells” of very cold weather, says BBC, while ONS suggests longer
      period of cold!

30 Nov: BBC: Excess winter deaths highest since 1970s, says ONS
There were around 50,100 excess winter deaths in England and Wales in 2017-18 – the highest since the winter of 1975-76, figures from the Office for National Statistics show.
The increase is thought to be down to the flu, the ineffectiveness of the flu vaccine in older people and spells of very cold weather last winter…
The ONS said the increases could also be explained partly by colder weather and lower temperatures, compared with the five-year average, in December, February and March…

      from comments:
Mark: Whatever happened to global warming?

Another daft comment. You do realise it is called climate change. Global warming changes the climate leading to extreme climate events. Winters can still be extremely cold with global warming…

1 Dec: Deutsche Welle: COP24: Africans expect real action on climate change
Daniel Pelz; Abu-Bakarr Jalloh contributed to this article
If climate change and global warning continue unabated, then Africa’s future does not look bright. Experts warn that participants at the COP24 conference in Poland have to deliver on previous pledges.
“We are the most vulnerable, we are the least responsible but we will suffer the most,” Seyni Nafo, spokesman of the African delegation at the World Climate Conference summed up in an interview with DW…
For James Murombedzi, a climate expert with the UN Economic Commission for Africa, this is the most important climate conference so far…

Funds to adapt to climate change
High on the agenda of the African delegation is also a second pledge made in Paris, namely that poor countries would receive financial help to enable them to adapt to climate change. Starting in 2020 rich industrial nations are expected to pay an annual amount of 100 billion US dollars. Here, too, no concrete commitments have been made. For negotiator Seyni Nafo, it is vital to ensure that the funds agreed are made available.

***For some experts, the sum of 100 billion dollars is not enough…
There is no guarantee of success for COP24.

***Fighting climate change means changing the way economic systems function and changing the lifestyle of entire societies, particularly where consumer behavior and mobility are concerned, says Murombedzi. “Especially in the highly developed countries, there appears to be not enough political will to take on necessary costs.”…ETC

1 Dec: France24: AFP: Brazil’s Bolsonaro blasts govt environmental agencies
Brazil’s incoming…president, Jair Bolsonaro, took a swipe on Saturday at the government’s environmental monitoring agencies, warning he would not allow them to impose “fines all over the place.”
“The party is over,” said Bolsonaro…
“I will no longer allow Ibama and ICMBio to be handing out fines all over the place,” he said, referring to Brazil’s main government environmental protection bureaus.

“I want to defend the environment, but not in a Shiite way, as is taking place now,” he said. He used the word “Shiite” as a synonym for radical and inflexible…

A … climate change skeptic, Bolsonaro has threatened to withdraw Brazil from the 2015 Paris Agreement to curb global warming…
On Saturday he said that he took part in the recent government decision to withdraw Brazil’s offer to host the COP25 UN climate conference next year, officially due to “budget constraints.”..

What bothers me is that if today’s schoolkids are being taught the warmist viewpoint only, when it comes to examinations, would they fail if they had done other reading for themselves or had parents who were knowledgeably not of the warmist opinion and in that exam gave a good solid argument to the contrary of that that they had been taught?

It always makes me smile when I see things like this, especially when hosted by such a high profile ‘drawcard’ as this is that each one of them knows hand on heart that the future for coal fired power is a long one. Each of the ‘leaders’ of the States, and the Country, and all their Energy Ministers have been advised ….. in no uncertain terms that they just cannot do without the huge power delivery capabilities that only coal fired power provides.

They just ‘say’ what they perceive the public wants to hear, and what gets them votes, to make them appear as they support these renewables of choice, wind and solar power.

When coal fired power regularly delivers 70 to 75% of all the required power, averaging 17000MW of 24000MW, and with absolutely NOTHING else capable of doing just that, these people are just ‘fiddling’ at the edges.

Pity help the first politician of any ilk who is the one finally forced to come out and admit that, and the whole deck of cards just collapses.

Some people say that the only solution is a grid failure of huge proportions, but also trust me on this, that will NEVER be allowed to happen. There will be selective brown outs and power rationing, but those coal fired Units will just soldier on. Those same politicians who speak like puppets with someone else’s hand up their back pulling the levers, and making it look like their mouth is moving, lay down the law behind the scenes and stipulate that the power must be kept on at all costs.

ALL of these people KNOW this, and things like this are just group gee ups so that the money keeps flowing in their direction.

      Tony.

LINK: The Australian: Four-year-olds play pre-school politics on refugees
    https://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/education/fouryearolds-play-preschool-politics-on-refugees/news-story/df3465760fdef333d1c4e198b4e2c86e

A Melbourne preschool has decided that children are never too young to embrace political advocacy, incorporating a recent Kids Off Nauru campaign into a lesson on refugee rights.
Brunswick Kindergarten, in the city’s inner north, broached the contentious topic by hosting a #BlueForNauru Day in which its children, aged four and five, were encouraged to dress in blue — signifying sadness, according to the campaign — to learn about the plight of children in offshore detention.
Teacher Catherine Sundbye wrote about the session in the preschool’s parent newsletter, detailing some of the student’s responses to the question: “What would you say to the politicians who won’t let the refugees in?”…

The Kids Off Nauru campaign — an initiative of World Vision Australia whose ambassadors include former Human Rights Commissioner Gillian Triggs, previous Australian of the Year Simon McKeon and ACTU president Michele O’Neil — had called for Australians to “go blue” in the lead-up to Universal Children’s Day on November 20 “in solidarity with the children and families our nation has trapped on Nauru”…
Ms Sundbye learnt about #BlueForNauru through a primary school and said she broached the idea of introducing the concept at the kindergarten with parents first…

1 Dec: Brazil’s Populist Minister Slams Climate Alarmism as ‘Marxist Ideology’
    by Thomas D. Williams PH.D
According to Araújo (Bolsonaro’s choice for Foreign Minister), the Workers’ Party (PT), which governed Brazil for 13 years under Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff, turned the country’s foreign policy into a tool to spread Marxist ideology, and the mission of the new administration is to dismantle that apparatus…

Among the Marxist elements pushed by the PT, Araújo cited climatic alarmism, knee-jerk third-worldism, adherence to abortionist policies in international forums, and the destruction of the identity of peoples through mass immigration…
“To cure a disease it is not enough to say that we detest it; it is necessary to know its causes and manifestations, its strategies and its disguises,” the minister said…

In an earlier blogpost (LINK), the future minister went into greater depth regarding his understanding of the aims of the climate change lobby.
“This dogma has served to justify increasing the regulatory power of states over the economy and the power of international institutions over national states and their populations,” Araújo wrote in mid-October, “as well as to stifle economic growth in democratic capitalist countries and foster China’s growth.”
Araújo, who is a vocal supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump, said that China is the enemy of the West and that the globalist movement wants to transfer the economic power of the West to that country…

Araújo has said the environmental cause, which originally was concerned with the “conservation of nature and the responsible use of resources,” was hijacked by the left as a way to manipulate nations and peoples.

Good Willie Soon article. It takes another astrophysicist! To slam AGW theory..of course.
    https://www.iceagenow.info/dr-willie-soon-versus-the-climate-apocalypse/
“Almost anyone who follows climate change discussions knows who astrophysicist Dr. Willie Soon is, and how passionately devoted he is to sound, honest, reproducible science,”says Paul Driessen.
“As Dr. Soon has frequently explained, computerized climate models do not add up to, demonstrate or prove a real theory of climate. The models repeatedly predicted a continuous increase in planetary temperatures, locked to a continuous increase in CO2. But instead, temperature has remained steady over the last two decades, while CO2 climbed even faster than before. And that’s just the tip of the proverbial icebergs … that are also supposed to prove humans and fossil fuels are warming the planet and melting the Arctic.”

      Check icecap.us too,

Obama-era deep-state bureaucrats have issued a dubious climate report that warns of imminent devastation from global warming. The report presents discredited assertions from environmental activist groups as “evidence” to support its findings, as well as predictions of temperature change and extreme weather events that have already been contradicted by real-world data.

A former Obama administration official with ties to a liberal advocacy group funded by Democratic megadonors George Soros and Tom Steyer helped prepare the Fourth National Climate Assessment, whose dire predictions have since been attacked as overblown. ”

      Icecap Note:

California has had no downtrend in annual precipitation since 1895.

      ..

It’s tragic issues with wildfires the last two years are the result of radical governmental and environmental policies/inaction. ”

Possibly some fires suspicious? Why not start an environmental catastrophe to get public opinion to climate change blame.

    In comments Brad Keyes letter

    “Dear Sir,

I may not believe in the science, but I’ll defend to the death the right of semi-educated teenagers to skip Maths, History and Science in order to raise much-needed awareness of their opinions about adiabatic lapse rates, black-body radiation physics, proxy validity in paleoclimate reconstructions, and the myriad other domains of knowledge required for forming a scientifically-literate position on global warming.

More power to them. If I were young and naïve enough to mistake an IPCC report for a scientific paper, I’d also feel an ethical responsibility to decry government inaction on behalf of the planet I was about to inherit.

If the PM wants to blame someone, he should confine his criticism to the education system. It’s an open secret that teachers of everything from English to Religious Studies use An Inconvenient Truth as an electronic babysitter. Teaching is the hardest and most underappreciated profession in the world, but if you’re struggling to come up with a lesson plan, how about devoting a couple of hours to critical thinking and skepticism?

    Yours faithfully,”

Defining low pressure systems as ‘cyclones’ is ‘good for business’ in the climate scam, but of course it backfires on them. The stats dont add up to there being more cyclones than average.

Here is the thing, and I’ve mentioned this before and so have many here on this blog-

regarding tropical cyclones and global warming – most predictions are for fewer cyclones of stronger intensity.

What you are describing is that the BOM is listing more cyclones by listing weak depressions as cyclones. So, according to you, the BOM is working AGAINST the mainstream global warming predictions.

a bit of reality and a lot of Reuters’ spin:

2 Dec: US News & World Report: France’s Macron Learns the Hard Way: Green Taxes Carry Political Risks
by Bate Felix, Reuters; Additional reporting by Michel Rose
Rioters torched cars and buildings in central Paris on Saturday following two weeks of protests caused partly by higher fuel taxes which Macron says are needed to fight climate change. Some protesters called for him to resign.
Macron’s plight illustrates a conundrum: How do political leaders’ introduce policies that will do long-term good for the environment without inflicting extra costs on voters that may damage their chances of re-election?…

“Clearly, countries where inequalities are the highest are the ones where these kinds of push-backs are mostly likely,” Francois Gemenne, a specialist in environmental geopolitics at SciencesPo university in Paris, said of the political risks.
Naming Italy, the United States and Britain as countries where environmental moves could risk a voter backlash, he said: “I guess it’s one of the reasons why populist leaders tend to be very skeptical about climate change and environmental measures.”…

The protests in France have inspired a similar movement in neighboring Belgium, where protesters took to the streets on Friday.
There have also been small-scale protests in Canada over Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s plan to impose a federal carbon tax on provinces unwilling to combat climate change…

Another challenge facing leaders is over how they use the proceeds from policies intended to help the environment: Should money raised from carbon taxes be used directly to combat climate change, or to plug holes in national accounts?…

In Canada, addressing the question of how governments use the money raised from carbon taxes, Trudeau’s government has promised to return the money collected from the provinces directly to taxpayers.
But in France most of the revenue generated will be used to tackle the national budget deficit, increasing anger at Macron, who left-wing opponents call the “president of the rich”…
Of the 34 billion euros ($38.71 billion) the French government will raise on fuel taxes in 2018, a sum of only 7.2 billion euros is earmarked for environmental measures…

Gemenne said the protests in France were unlikely to go away soon, and may emerge in other countries as they take more determined action on emissions.
The danger, he said, was inaction, or acting too late to prevent global warming. At the same time, politicians need to be able to show they were acting fairly and equitably.

just heard something on Sky about some story in the papers tomorrow that is favourable to “renewables”. don’t know what it is, but there is this exciting news!!!

2 Dec: RenewEconomy: Milestone – Australia renewables output hits 9GW for first time
    by Giles Parkinson
This graph above, courtesy of Dylan McConnell from the Climate and Energy College in Melbourne, and sourced from their OpenNem data feed, shows that the level of renewables was above 9,000 megawatts (nine gigawatts) for the first time on Saturday.

This occurred ***at midday, when the share of renewables in the NEM hit 39.7 per cent. Even without hydro, the contribution of large scale wind, large scale solar, and rooftop solar nearly beat 9GW for the first time, and on Sunday it did…

Another milestone was reached in Victoria, where also for the first times, according to McConnell, the state’s demand was met 50 per cent by renewables…
Its total share of generation at the time was around 40 per cent, but that’s because brown coal didn’t change its output – so the excess capacity was exported…

Regarding your graph of the IPCC FAR temperature projections versus UAH, I wondered if the third assessment report had fared any better. I drew my own projection ranges starting from the year the projection was published and going up according to the min, mean, and max rates of increase that they estimated. They are both extrapolated 17 years into the future because 17 years has elapsed since the 2001 report. The net change in the min/mean/max for the TAR is given in faint text so you can see how much the actual differed.

    https://i.imgur.com/JBM0bhS.png

(Title and source attribution is https://imgur.com/a/7CapIKt )

The actuals were below the lowest range of the FAR, but were within the min/max range predicted by the TAR. That is obviously because the uncertainty range was so large on their prediction and also because they reduced their predicted mean warming rate in 2001 compared to the FAR.

Their 17 year forecast performance by their own standards scrapes in with a pass mark although with actuals being 2/3 of what was predicted it was still too high.

There is NO EVIDENCE that of warming by atmospheric CO2…..

Even you should KNOW that by now, but it doesn’t seem to bother you.

All energy comes from the Sun, therefore the very slight but beneficial warming from the COLDEST period in 10,000 years , is almost CERTAINLY to do with the increased solar activity.

You have NOTHING as always, because you KNOW NOTHING.

      Your comment is baseless, IKN.

What changes have occurred in the climate in the last 40 years that can be SCIENTIFICALLY attributed to human activity??? (apart from data adjustment)

Just been looking at the ABS website to try and get some context.

ABS tells me that the 0-14 age group is 18.8% of total population.

Now the really young are not going to be allowed out, but we are also going to have the 15 to 17 year olds who are still technically school age.

Let us play loose with the numbers and say 10% of the population is of the correct ‘school age’ bracket.

Now, let us take out half just because they are not allowed to attend, or physically cannot due to distance. Again playing fast and loose but let us say 5% of the population are school kids who were able to attend.

Now, population of Melbourne is apparently 4.8million. Not sure in my rough and ready research where Melbourne formally ends, so let us say 3 million were in range of the Melbourne protest. (Note, this may be double dipping as I have already randomly removed some of the kids under that ‘physically cannot due to distance’ bit earlier).

Anyway, let us assume we have 5% of 3million, which, if my fingers and toes are correct, works out to 150,000 school kids protesting in Melbourne alone.

Did anyone count 150,000 school kids at the Melbourne protests?

    Anyone?

As to your question, I can’t see any obvious way of rationally convincing alarmist adults/children that they need to dig deeper into the vexed issue of “climate change”. It has morphed into the secular religion of our age.

Take a look at the comments on New Daily today, like this one:

    Neil Barker
The climate denying climate trolls are much like cockroaches; they are everywhere but too afraid to show themselves in public, they are reviled by normal caring people who care for a clean environment, they scurry away into dark corners when you turn the light on, and their behavior is thoroughly predictable. They are part of life, and their anonymous appearance on social media is just what one would expect. We just have to get used to it.
