Climate Change remains Malcolm Turnbulls Kryptonite

As long as “climate change” is on the agenda in Western politics it will keep tearing the right-conservative side of politics apart. Because it is built on a mistake, the only stability for the right (and eventually the left) will be resolute skepticism. Truth will out in the end. Til then, the right side hobbles along with the exception of a few like Abbott, then moreso, Trump. Trump is the only politician to laugh at the snake oil salesmen and he won the most powerful democratic battle on Earth. When will other non-leftie politicans get the message?

Here in Australia the issue is so toxic that the only kind of carbon tax we can have is the secret, mislabeled kind. The climate issue is so toxic it has gone underground.

The legacy media keep telling us “the science” is all one way so they are baffled that so many in politics don’t get it. What the media hide from themselves is that skeptical scientists vastly outnumber and outrank the believers, and that most of the public doesn’t buy the message either (see these climate polls). If politicans truly represented the public on this, over half would be skeptical.

Australian Financial Review: “More than half of federal Liberal MPs ‘don’t trust’ climate science: think tank

John Roskam, the executive director of the Melbourne-based Institute of Public Affairs, said he hadn’t conducted a formal count but found most Liberal politicians shared his doubts about what many experts say is the greatest global threat to mankind.

“More than 50 per cent are solid sceptics and more than 50 per cent feel they need to be seen to do something,” he said in an interview. “The science is not settled.”

Journalist Aaron Patrick drops the usual line in about “climate scientists” as the gospel:

The overwhelming majority of climate change scientists accept the atmosphere is warming and humans are responsible.

What he probably has no idea of, is how that small sub branch of science has failed utterly to convince any other branch of it’s central thesis. Surely if climate scientists were right, the first people to recognise that would be meteorologists, followed by engineers, geologists, chemists, etc.

The fact is (and any genuine reporter would find this out easily) almost half  of meteorologists — fergoodnesssake — are skeptics, survey after survey shows that two-thirds of geoscientists and engineers are skeptics, and most readers of skeptical blogs (who chose to respond to surveys and list their qualifications in  comments^) have hard science degrees. Of the twelve astronauts who ever walked on the moon, three are outspoken skeptics (Harrison Schmidt, Buzz Aldrin, and Charles Duke). Not to mention that some skeptics have Nobel prizes (the real kind in Physics, not “Peace”). If we had to name a list of skeptics versus believers, the skeptics number 31,000, yet there is no list of named scientists who believe that comes close — let alone a list of 300,000 which would imply some truth to the statement that the science is settled, and the world’s scientists agree.

The one sided reporting leaves us open to these kinds of myths — as if a large part of conservative politics disagrees with “science”:

But many right-wing politicians, commentators and voters aren’t convinced the scientists are correct, or suspect the consequences of global warming are being exaggerated for ideological or economic reasons. Some Liberals unenthusiastically support climate change policies in the hope scientific opinion will shift in future years, Mr Roskam said.

 Top marks to Peta Credlin

The Coalition backbench is “deeply sceptical about climate theology,” the former chief of staff to Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Peta Credlin, wrote in the Daily Telegraph last week.

“Make no mistake, even his strongest supporters in Cabinet understand that climate change remains Malcolm Turnbull’s kryptonite,” Ms Credlin wrote.

Nick Cater is brilliant, when asked what his think tanks climate position was he said “Should we have one?”

And as the electricity crisis continues in Australia, more and more voters are going to support those who are ‘sceptical’ indeed downright hostile to the AGW mob.
As they realise they are going to lose office and the perks expect more Liberals to appear as sceptics in public.

It’s going to be incredibly difficult to do anything about renewable energy in Australia now. Even now as the energy shortfall becomes evident, instead of fingers being pointed towards wind and solar, the public anger is being successfully redirected towards government for failed privatisation efforts and inability to sufficiently enable enough gas for gas-fired power stations. This is with the tacit approval of Turnbull and his supporters and a deliberate strategy on the part of the Greens and Labor.

Tom, agree with your point about public anger being redirected. However, Turnbull’s support has hardly been “tacit”.

Because 80% of Australians have been severely brainwashed we need to take over the propaganda arms of government, the ABC and SBS, then we will conduct a debriefing exercise.

This of course is way down the track, but in the short term mass disobedience is probably our only option. Intelligent people vote informally.

In the U.S. (and likely Australia) it’s the Education Establishment that is the main propaganda arm of the government. The MSM are only the echo chamber to keep the sheeple from backsliding after graduation.

Hmmm…this seems pure nonsense, but brilliantly clever – blaming consumers for wanting reliability – how dare they…..

Looks like a push to convince consumers they really should have 3rd world electircity…

        http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-07-18/australian-gold-plated-power-grid/8721566

I laughed out loud at this ( no mention of the cancer of lack-of-stability-causing renewables places on a grid…)

“The system causes blackouts despite excess capacity

        The international comparisons are staggering.

The total value of the entire electricity network in the US, a country of 320 million people, is $US100 billion, while the value of Australia’s network is not far short — $100 billion or $US75 billion.”

“The complete lack of long-term policy certainty for investors has led to a shortage of excess energy generation and, therefore, blackouts.

It has also been responsible for surging electricity prices which have encouraged disillusioned consumers to search for alternatives, including the push towards solar energy, batteries and self sufficiency.”

Yes, lack of stability due to renewables will do that to you…..

        Pants on fire…..

Channelling Julia. Their “Gold Plating” is really their “renewables”.

As for valuation. In ALP/Greens economics, if two teams of two men are sent out to dig two identical holes, the first team gets stuck into the job and finishes in a day while the second bludges and takes a week, when the invoices come back to the management, they say: “Look, the value of this second hole is five times the value of the first. Next time we want a hole dug, hire that team”.

When the money grubbers see this, they say: “Look, this second hole is a gold mine! Let’s mine it for all we can get out of it”.

And that is how the valuation of our network gets comparable to the US.

Whatever problems we have with Turnbull, he is still a better option than Bill Shorten for PM of Australia. With Shorten, it is party policy to have 50% renewables in power supply. This will transform all of Australia to be like South Australia with high electricity prices, poor reliability and even black-outs. How will you like that? We’re caught between a rock and a hard place.

I find it hard to agree. If Turnbull should win, then I would expect 50% RET to be on the agenda quite quickly. Turnbull and Photios have been playing a long game, with both of them, and quite a few others, having financial skin in the game. Turnbull’s son is into renewables as well. At least with Shorten you know what you are getting.

Peter, your “Turnbull better than Shorten” no matter what, line of argument is what the left-wing liberals are relying on. They’re boiling the frogs slowly. Starting with a simmer, it’ll end in a boiling cauldron of disaster if they succeed.

          Hopefully they won’t succeed.

My own view is that the liberals are gone. Turnbull is history.

Australia is under-going a major political adjustment. We are currently only in the early stages. It may take a few election cycles before we see the full manifestation of the re-balancing.

A new conservatism is a growing force. That’s to be expected. It’s a natural human reaction to a swing that’s gone too far one way. Political history is replete with examples.

Turnbull is destroying the liberal party. He will annihilate it if he is not removed. He is a lefty. He is a crony-capitalist. A socialist. And a greenie. A spender. A man of poor judgement.

The Liberal parliamentarians chucked Tony Abbott off the bus when they thought that they would lose office under him. What happens when they realise they are not just going to lose office under Turnbull but lose it for the rest of their political life? Hysterical panic. I very much doubt they will turn back to Abbott, partly because I think he doesn’t want the job again and partly because of the Casandra effect i.e. resentment against those who have offered good advice and have been proved correct.
At the moment Turnbull and others are trying to get natural gas available and use that for lower emissions. It will be more costly than coal fired but more reliable than renewables. Their problem is that a large number of them cannot grasp that renewables won’t work with any cheaper constant generation method, so they will pander to a belief that the public wants renewables. As the cost rises and blackouts increase the public is going to understand that it is renewables that cause the problem and vote for those who promise cheaper more reliable electricity. The Liberals will become a minor and unimportant party much like the DLP.

My point is that the general public may not know about forcing effects, heat at the bottom of the ocean etc. but they will look at their rising electricity bills and will want action. Shorten may well get in thanks to incompetence from the Liberals but he will suffer the same fate.
The current Liberal ‘policy’ is to spend money on non-problems because that is Labor policy. As the public realise that it is their money, they aren’t going to be in favour of anyone claiming he can throw more money faster down the gurgler. It may take a few years for that message to sink in, esp. as the politicians are quite good at meaningless waffle, but in the end the plain truth will win. Any drop in temperatures across most of Austalia in the next few years is going to speed up the collapse of AGW.

UN’s Agenda 2030 : Goal 5) Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

Translation: Criminalize Christianity, marginalize heterosexuality, demonize males and promote the LGBT agenda everywhere. The real goal is never “equality” but rather the marginalization and shaming of anyone who expresses any male characteristics whatsoever. The ultimate goal is to feminize society, creating widespread acceptance of “gentle obedience” along with the self-weakening ideas of communal property and “sharing” everything. Because only male energy has the strength to rise up against oppression and fight for human rights, the suppression of male energy is key to keeping the population in a state of eternal acquiescence. http://www.naturalnews.com

No doubt about it, Turnbull and the “Black Hand” faction members took advantage of the Abbott led Coalition defeat of Gillard Labor in 2010 (they were forced into a minority alliance government) and then in 2013 defeated Rudd Labor in a landslide victory. Accordingly there were many new MPs in Parliament on the Coalition side, notably Liberal Party. The Coalition victories came despite not good published poll results.

The Black Hand took advantage of the substantial majority and new inexperienced MPs to replace Abbott with Turnbull as they had been working towards since 2009 via anonymous undermining tactics. They convinced enough of the new MPs that to secure their seats in 2016 they needed a new leader.

PM Turnbull led the Coalition close to defeat in 2016 and the government was saved by one National Party seat gain.

It was also saved by the outrageous Daniel Andrews in Victoria, a new Union appointed Premier who declared war on Country Victoria through the CFA. The Coalition did not lose a single seat in Victoria, which was remarkable and nothing to do with Malcolm who came here once and stood on a tram in a pin stripe suit, a man of the people. That was his campaign. When you consider the disaster that is Weatherill’s SA government and the turmoil in Queensland, every thing will change. Only 12% of the workforce are in Unions but perhaps 40% of public servants.

The biggest prize though is electricity. Whoever promises to end the endless taxes on electricity and the non taxes like the RET will sweep to victory. TdeF it has long been discussed that governments, particularly the federal government, have revenue problems. Of course they also have spending problems that need to be dealt with too. I suspect that PM Turnbull has more devious plans in mind to raise revenue by stealth. Apparently he once invited former Treasurer Costello for dinner and to stay overnight at his Sydney home and after dinner Turnbull produced his blueprint for the future and presented it to Costello. It included ways to increase the tax base.

My point being the stealth carbon tax introduced soon after Turnbull became PM and now levied against fossil fuel power station businesses to force the owners into a “commercial decision” to close them down sooner than otherwise might have been the long term plan.

Recently the media reported that a new tax on motor vehicles was being considered and Christopher Pyne responded with a denial. I suspect that the leaked information was not presented accurately by the media and the new tax is not new and will be the stealth carbon tax extended to cover petrol and diesel fuels.

Recently the media reported that a new tax on motor vehicles…

Doubtless a “recommendation” by their UN Globocult masters who have already announced the vision diktat of fossil fuel free cities, designed to eventually force and impose e-vehicles and destroy independent mobility. I wonder how that will go down in NZ where public transport borders on the pathetic. Possibly the NZ government will impose further ETS type charges on fuel.

The Globocult goal, to force as many as possible toward community ownership and the hire of electric vehicles or the use of public transport. Volvo’s recently irrational move in the e-vehicle direction can really only be driven by top-down political directive rather than any bottom-up market demand.

That is Bernadi’s whole and timely idea. Turnbull just read Menzies epitaph and that of Menzies’ Liberals. The Pretender has claimed his throne but without a shred of conservative thinking. Turnbull’s New Liberals are the US Liberals, not Menzies’ conservative Liberals. At least we will no longer have to explain to Americans why a conservative PM calls himself a Liberal and detests Trump and the Republicans.

With the departure of the baby boomers, including most of the cabinet, there may be a new party like the Australian Conservatives. However they will be voting for another 20 years, so there is a huge base.

At 47 Bernadi is young enough. He has presence and confidence and charisma. Once the rush to the Australian conservatives becomes a flood, whole sections of the Liberals will defect including much of the apparatus. In Victoria, Kroger is busy fighting the McCormack foundation for control of the historic Liberal $70Million cash cow while the place is falling apart. The older McCormack directors are interested in funding real conservatives like Bob Day’s Family First and withholding millions from Kroger and Zimmerman and Turnbull’s Liberals. If they switched to Bernadi as they can, it would be game over. Much depends on the Trust documents and while Turnbulls poses as Menzies successor, they may decide otherwise. As Malcolm’s Liberals are indistinguishable from Labor, it should be an easy decision but one which will end up in the Supreme Court.

If they did, the ultimate defection would be Abbott and he would take his electorate with him and half the Liberal party and more importantly the party apparatus. Malcolm and his new Liberals would fade into memory, stripped of a system they did not earn. Malcolm will never see his $1.75million again.

This is getting more and more likely. Even if Abbott was offered a cabinet post tomorrow, it would be to silence him and he would refuse. Besides, Turnbull, Bishop, Morrison, Pyne, Brandis and more have shown how little respect they had for the rules of Menzies party. In Malcolm’s new Liberals, it’s all about Malcolm and his clones. A bit Star Wars. Next will be the return of the Jedi.

While Turnbull is probably still dreaming of a deal with the Greens, it will never happen. They nearly made it last time with real Labor and a lot of the Greens are really Labor, just as so many of the UK Independence party were really Labor.

Yes, May and pollsters thought so. She called a very early election based on their predictions of a massive landslide and they were completely wrong and turned a comfortable working majority into a marginal government for no reason at all!
Far from a Tories landslide, the UKIP party vote vanished and Labor grew dramatically. Thus my conclusion.

While everyone blames May, I would blame the polls as in the US. These tiny samples are just not enough and nearly cost the Tories government. Now they are ahead but far from a mandate, Scotland and Northern Island and Corbyn can threaten every move.

Polls have been so wrong in the last few elections, but still journalists believe them. Or at least 97% do on Climate Change. Personally I would not trust polls. They were wrong about Howard, Abbott, May, Trump, Clinton, Corbyn, so many.

I hope your predictions are accurate TdeF, I have no doubts whatsoever that the Turnbull fake Liberal Party is doomed to failure, it’s a matter of how much longer the ducting tape will hold.

It is way past time for a new conservative party to offer the real alternative government and policies to union controlled Labor and Greens.

Tony Abbott led the Coalition to victory against Gillard Labor in 2010 and Rudd Labor in 2013 but he was severely handicapped by the traitors within the Liberal Party who plotted against his leadership from 2009 to 2015 when they succeeded in replacing him. But he was also under attack from international socialism and the UN based climate change politicians and fellow travellers. As Christopher Monckton warned Australians, to watch PM Abbott’s back.

Unfortunately too many Australians are politically naive and even apathetic, but the numbers waking up are encouraging.

You are quite correct, Grahame, but it is all a bit deeper and more sinister than that. Pyne’s drunken bragging about the Black Hand (the extreme left wing of the Liberal Party) now being in the “winner’s corner”, gives the truth to what Lord Moncton warned us about before Tony Abbott and the then Canadian Prime Minister were deposed. The Black Hand were very aware that Turnbull could not win the election in 2013 and allowed Tony to do so, in a landslide. Then Turnbull and his team set about undercutting Tony, as Labor did with Rudd, for the same reason. The rest is history; Turnbull got the winners guernsey and set about turning the Liberal Party into the Turnbull/Socialist Party. And here we are.

          Is that for me?
Seriously the Liberal Party is split into roughly 3 sections. There are the Conservatives like Abbott, the liberals, for want of a better term, who look to do the same as the Labor middle would do, and the ‘undecided’. The latter are the battleground as all they are concerned with is their own survival. That is the mob that Turnbull swung behind his bid, and equally the mob that he needs to keep onside. This mob think that adopting Labor policies is the way back to office, so they will hew to the ridiculous idea that renewables in a mixed system will reduce emissions. Sadly they are wrong but the public won’t recognise that until too late.
I see no way out of the coming depression until both MT and BS are exposed as fakes. Only after that will there be a new Political Landscape where the division between the public interest and the vapid waffling of the Socialists is obvious. Unfortunately Australia will be the poorer for the next few years and will need many years to recover. I won’t be there to see it but I think that Australia has something to ofer to the world rather than slavish acceptance of the third rate intellectual garbage now prevalent in the Universities and the media.

Not so sure. History is full of Gores, who profit so incredibly. The Beatles swami in rags died with an estate of 2Billion pound. Now that’s a lot. Some people search though their lives for something which will attract people and money. The Rev Jim Jones started with Communism. So did most of the Greens. Science Fiction writer L.Ron Hubbard as well. Then he decided the way to get rich was to start a religion, so scientology with General Xenu, dictator of the Galactic Confederacy, thetans, volcanoes, DC8 space ships. It all ends up with wanting a lot of money.

So I really do not believe Gore believes it. I believe he is passionate about it. There is a different, more prosaic explanation than faith or even idiocy from a science incompetent type whose degree thesis was on the impact of Television in Richard Nixon’s campaign. Carbon Dioxide, the evil that has made so many rich has now made Gore rich and very famous. What more could an essayist want?

A politician told me he gets 50 letters about the danger of CO2 for every skeptic letter. This is in a conservative area! If you were him you would keep a low profile on the topic. The commenters on this blog are aiming at the wrong people. How about legal action such as “failing the duty of care” to a senior publicly funded scientist. I prefer the analogy of King James VI of Scotland (and later King James I of England) and his obsession with witchcraft.
King Henry IV of France, a contemporary, called him the “wisest fool in Christendom”, as King James was regarded an “intellectual”.
Superstitious from an early age, King James brought the medieval fear and superstition of witchcraft from Denmark to Scotland.
He wrote a book called “Demonology” circa 1590 which was widely regarded as the definitive work on identification and conviction of witches. At a time of widespread illiteracy in Europe, strange concoctions of make-believe and fantasy spread by word of mouth.
I think that it is this same propensity for theological belief in pure fantasy and nonsense that has been used by con artists like Gore and Mann as a route to wealth.
We have reached a stage at which most folk are completely aware that AGW is a farce, but are afraid to admit it. The herd instinct is strong in the human psyche, and has been used repeatedly in history to advance evil causes. The weapons are mass media dissemination of misinformation and disinformation.

          Frank,

You are mildly humorous, especially when compared to bovines, who have no sense of humour at all.

I know that they probably didn’t teach logic, at whatever seminary you attended, but the onus is on those pushing the fear of “Armageddon and the end of days”, to provide repeatable proof, or independently confirmed observations, to prove their point.

How many people are there, in the western world, who identify with actually being a practicing climate scientist, and actually receive their remuneration for “discoveries”, and “repeatable observations”, in that discipline?

What percentage would that be, compared to all scientists and academics practicing in the physical sciences, in the western world? (I leave the eastern scientists out of this, because I know that the answer would be zero percent).

What I am describing here, is the reality. We do not have to “prove” the negative, that there is no man-made influence in climate change, because there are obviously solid particulates in the atmosphere that might not be there, but for us. What you and the self absorbed climate scientists have to do, is to provide repeatable proof that we are having a meaningful and permanent change on the climate, but do so by presenting physical facts, and demonstrating repeatable experiment or observations.

          Good luck.

RW: Even ‘true believers ‘ in AGW will hesitate to take up your challenge. Even Frank who obviously has little knowledge of real Science would not dare take you up. The plain fact is that “Climate Change” is a failed hypothesis with no evidence to base itself on. There are already 2, possibly 3 alternative theories that explain the temperature response and changes of the last 3,000 years which “Climate Science” spectacularly fails to do.
No, Frank and other trolls will confine themselves to remarks boosting their belief that they know better. When the evidence of Global Cooling becomes unavoidable they will try and blame it on CO2. They won’t like the derisive laughter directed at them and will probably never admit they were wrong. Fortunately our gullible politicians will be wary of their manipulation in future and they wil lapse into irrelevance.

Actually, when you look at it Will, the phase “global average temperature” has no meaning at all. For one thing, it is time dependent, because all of the readings required to calculate the “average” must be taken at the same relative time in every location, over a 24 hour period.

Average, is only applicable to linear measurements.

The “seen to be doing something” lukewarmers are not reasonable. Reason lies in vigorous opposition to climate alarmism and to the globalist agenda mongers who promote it.

Important to distinguish between lukewarmers and moderates. Lukewarmers keep the climate scam going for longer while inflicting a slower, more compact class of white elephant on our economies. The ruin they bring is more gradual but more sure than that brought on by old style climate preachers and hucksters like Gore. You can see the hilarity of the Port Kembla Wave Generator or the 2010 drought predictions of David Jones. An RET as permitted/tolerated by so called conservatives and skeptics is a slow working cancer you don’t see. In short, lukewarmers are not an alternative to the climatariat, they are its future.

A moderate is something else. When it comes to the climatariat I am myself something of a fence-sitter and moderate. I believe we should wipe their ghastly superstition from the face of the earth; however we should spare their lives and we should under no circumstances salt their fields after burning their crops and driving off their cattle. The very idea that Carbon dioxide is a pollutant is absolute nonsense. Only three things are required for powering this planet, carbon dioxide, water and sunlight and one of them is a pollutant? This is the fundamental absurdity behind the push against ‘fossil fuels’. All of our lives, our quality of life, our advances in quality of life can be put down to Carbon Dioxide and now it is evil. It would be easier to argue that water is evil.

Our only hope in Australia is that the Liberal party tosses out the effete pretender Turnbull and adopts a no carbon tax platform. Everyone would vote for this. The massive increase in the cost of electricity and total loss of security is due entirely to government taxes. They are hidden deep in your electricity bills. Penn and teller (on U Tube) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi3erdgVVTw did a piece where they went to a Greenie (hippie) gathering and asked the attendees to sign a petition to ban di-hydrogen oxide. RET? what’s that? here’s our real problem and all sensible people will rush off to get solar and batteries and ABC says we should spare a thought for the poor Aussies who can’t afford to go this route:

18 Jul: ABC: Power prices: Australia has a gold-plated electricity grid that consumers can’t afford
    By business reporter Phillip Lasker
The system causes blackouts despite excess capacity
    The international comparisons are staggering.
The total value of the entire US electricity network, a country of 320 million people, is $US100 billion, while the value of Australia’s network is not far short — $100 billion or $US75 billion.
“Australia’s gold-plated system is ten times more reliable than it needs to be,” said (Public Interest Advocacy Centre’s Craig) Memery…

Households have also been short changed by the well-documented war in Canberra over renewable energy and coal.
The complete lack of long-term policy certainty for investors has led to a shortage of excess energy generation and, therefore, blackouts.
It has also been responsible for surging electricity prices which have encouraged disillusioned consumers to search for alternatives, including the push towards solar energy, batteries and self sufficiency…

(Bruce Mountain, director of CME): “The only way to mitigate it and to manage it is to revalue down the network assets to recognise their economic value is much lower than it was before these alternatives existed.”
Without this action, there is a risk many consumers will disconnect from the grid, leaving fewer households — namely those who can’t afford to disconnect — footing the bill for Australia’s gold-plated, high-cost network…
“It will take up to 15 years for the established players to respond by writing-down the value of their assets, which should deliver lower prices.”

Consumers will not be waiting around for that long if they can escape. Spare a thought for those low income households who will be left behind, trapped into supporting a Rolls Royce network.

      MOROCCO
O hell, what have we here?
A carrion death, within whose empty eye
There is a written scroll. I’ll read the writing.

      (reads)
“All that glisters is not gold—
Often have you heard that told.
Many a man his life hath sold
      But my outside to behold.
      Gilded tombs do worms enfold.
Had you been as wise as bold,
Young in limbs, in judgment old,
Your answer had not been inscrolled.
Fare you well. Your suit is cold—
      Cold, indeed, and labor lost.”

Then, farewell, heat, and welcome, frost!
Portia, adieu. I have too grieved a heart
To take a tedious leave. Thus losers part.

Politicians who are afraid of how the MSM media will define them do not realize that the world has changed. People take what the MSM say with a pinch of salt. If this was not so, then Trump and Brexit could not have happened. But they did. That’s the real world, not the make believe world the MSM has constructed.

In a similar vein the consensus science on climate no longer has credibility. GISS, NOAA, NASA, BOM, MET, and so forth are not considered authoritative anymore. They have lied, adjusted, manipulated data, pal reviewed, and generally have cried wolf for too long now. The make believe world they constructed did not change reality.

I have said this many times before but we really need to have a Nuremberg style trial for all those complicit in the attempted or actual destruction of Western Civilisation by false claims of “global warming”, it being one of the two methods being used to bring this about. The other, as we all know, is the deliberate importation into civilised countries of some of the world’s most uneducated, unassimilable and violent people.

I am reasonably sure that our PM has followed the path of climate change for acceptance and standing. It doesn’t matter what is true or what many people are now suffering, image is everything to him. Why would he and his have to worry about power price rises, especially the huge salary plus personal wealth. Why would our fake news media and leftist, Marxist, communists worry, it is plain as any history book on the last century that is it their intention to bring the general population down to serfdom and poverty. As I have said in the past, I am a climate atheist, for several reasons; one, that I have studied this for over 10 years from every angle and the trail always is the big money trail for the true believers. Two, the disdain for any other point of view, I always thought scientists were people who questioned everything, now we have collusion, lies, coverups and a blunt refusal to debate any real facts and evidence. Three, multi generational observations of.country people who can far more accurately predict weather that the BOM. Four, have studied a comprehensive weather history of the world of the last 2000 years and saw savage extremes of heat and cold, floods and droughts, the solar and volcanic influences and so the list goes. First goal of bureaucracy: self-preservation
Translated, it means inserting yourself into people’s lives so you become unsackable.

I think it is very difficult to implement a proper energy policy federally when all the states are run by AGW disciples. Australian citizens have seen destruction of living standards by green zealots with white elephant desalination plants and increasingly unreliable and expensive electricity failing to doom the current ruling State Labor governments. Part of me thinks if people are so gullible to continue to elect such economic saboteurs they deserve what they get, but part of me despairs at what is happening. As the implications of the global warming myth are staring politicians in the face they seem to be doubling down on their position as if there is now a completion by both sides of government to increase their commitments to the AGW cult to the most fervent levels possible. It’s similar to the USA where States such as California are ready to secede in terms of energy policy. Whether it’s here or in the US unless the people vote out democratically these vandals the damage that they inflict will be difficult to fix. At least in the US Trump represents real hope and clear opposition to the lunacy of the States. In Australia until the Libs replace the head honcho the States remain the main influences over energy policy and our lifestyles will be permanently affected.

Agreed, but the massive carbon taxes are Federal and the Federal government is looking at more, say the mooted tax on new cars which will add $5000 to every new car. That was only last week!

The swamp in Canberra is full of Green zealots who frame legislation and believe you can tax Australians more and more. They are the ones driving this legislation designed increasingly to be hidden from the consumers. The latest one only became news when car dealers received letters announcing it. Only then did the government deny it.

These are taxes paid after you pay your income taxes, so they are far more punitive on low income families who are otherwise exempt. By far the worst is the RET which does not even go into General Revenue, so it is a money grab from overseas facilitated, aided and abetted by our public servants. Even the politicians seem wilfully ignorant of how it works. It is not just the ABC which is 60% Green, it is the whole of Canberra.

Volvo of Sweden now Chinese owned recently announced they will stop producing vehicles equipped with conventional power, instead they will offer pure electric or hybrid petrol generator models.

The decision was based on the soon to come into effect EU Standard on fuel consumption which Volvo believe cannot be achieved with conventional technology.

No doubt the news about a tax on vehicles here is related to the EU Standard … as I posted above, I suspect the stealth carbon tax will be applied to transportation based fossil fuels.

The overwhelming majority of climate change scientists accept the atmosphere is warming and humans are responsible …

Climate Change™ scientists by definition believe that.
The IPCC attribute ‘almost certainly’ only half the warming since ~1950 (~0.3C) to humans.
Even if that guess were true it doesn’t imply any necessary policy prescriptions.
And even if it were necessary to implement energy policy changes, so-called renewables — dead-end technologies — would not be the answer.

Why would they deny the key to their jobs, their incomes, their careers? After thirty years of IPCLimateChange, there are thousands of tame scientists who fight to prove Climate Change is real, even if the average resident of this planet cannot see any change.

Most outrageously, without any scientific explanation at all, the IPCC advocates have adopted an idea that while the world is not warming, the weather is getting worse. Now how is that justified? How does CO2 make weather worse? It is nonsense science. Even Al Gore and Tim Flannery have no explanation for this. They just say it is true. CO2 causes more bushfires, floods and droughts.
      All at the same time?

In fact when in South Australia they had a run of clear, crisp, windless winter days it was labelled a ‘wind drought’. Again the cause? Climate Change. So CO2 makes things happen and not happen, heat and cold, wind and no wind, floods and drought. There is no sense of the absurdity of this theme, no embarassment at the lack of any logic or explanation. Climate Change, the gift which keeps on giving. There is no weather even it cannot explain, even the lack of weather!

Since solid evidence and actual science has had little impact upon the green blob’s effort to stop the industrial and technological revolution, I propose using Theosophy to prove their claims are not valid.

It once was the case that the explanation for everything was that a god or demon did it. Now a rising level of CO2 in the atmosphere explains everything and that man’s use of fossil fuel is causing the rise.

This is the green blob saying those of us who use fossil fuels are gods or demons. If so, shouldn’t we be able make them go away and stop bothering us simply by wishing it?

Clearly, we are a very feeble gods or demons. We have been wishing the green blob would go away for several decades. Yet, they are still with us like a biblical pestilence spoiling the land.

Therefor an increase in CO2 level is equally feeble changing the climate. The rising level of CO2 is irrelevant in its effect on the climate.

Australia has to decide whether the climate change “story” is real or not. If it’s real then they should vote for Shorten as his policies are better suited to “fixing” the “problem”. If not then they should vote for neither major party. It’s that simple. In reality a vote for either major party is a vote for the destruction of our nation for multiple reasons. The only difference between the two is the speed at which we reach destruction. If anyone really thinks the LNP can be saved by a new leader, forget it. It’s now a dead party with too many self-interested hypocrites and brain dead politicians. To renew the party would require a leader of Menzies proportion if not much greater. I thought that Josh Frydenberg did an admirable job last night of explaining the Libs’ policy on energy on the Sky News Richo program. Richo made sure to cut him off at the most salient points, but not before Josh got his somewhat censured message across. With a resurrected Tony Abbott as PM, ministers like Frydenberg and Peter Dutton could perform wonders, unrestricted by climate and migration dogma.

With the help of Andrew Hastie, Craig Kelly, and General Jim Molan if he is selected, the Libs would have a chance with conservative voters.

Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening so the only option is to vote for conservative strength in the Senate with Cory’s Australian Conservatives, Pauline’s One Nation, and David Lleyonhelm’s quirky Liberal Democrats.

18 Jul: UK Times: Emily Gosden: Electric car chargers could be switched off remotely at peak times
Electric car chargers could be switched off remotely or turned down by energy companies if owners refuse to use them at off-peak times.

UK Power Networks, which delivers electricity to 18 million people in London, the southeast and the east of England, is calling for the right to remotely control vehicle charging as a “last resort” to prevent power cuts.
Forecasts suggest that electric vehicles could increase peak demand far beyond the level that existing power stations can generate and cable networks can transmit…

        Graeme No.3 –

I take your point; however, I wanted to see what UKPN’s Suleman Alli had to say, to see if he backed up Gosden’s claims. found this bit elsewhere:

Excerpt: Suleman Alli, director of safety and strategy at UK Power Networks, said he hoped that pricing tariffs would persuade people to charge cars at off-peak times only, but that the company needed the powers to intervene if they did not. “One of our key roles is to keep the lights on,” he said. “If we start to see uncoordinated or uncontrolled charging, that may jeopardise the network security and safety. We need to be able to step in and manage it.” Last week National Grid estimated that unmanaged electric car charging could add 18 gigawatts to peak demand by 2050, equivalent to the power output of six big new nuclear plants similar to Hinkley Point C. Smart charging could reduce this extra demand to six gigawatts, it said.

    problems with renewables:

17 Jul: Nature: Balancing Europe’s wind-power output through spatial deployment informed by weather regimes
As wind and solar power provide a growing share of Europe’s electricity, understanding and accommodating their variability on multiple timescales remains a critical problem. On weekly timescales, variability is related to long-lasting weather conditions, called weather regimes, which can cause lulls with a loss of wind power across neighbouring countries.

Here we show that weather regimes provide a meteorological explanation for multi-day fluctuations in Europe’s wind power and can help guide new deployment pathways that minimize this variability. Mean generation during different regimes currently ranges from 22 GW to 44 GW and is expected to triple by 2030 with current planning strategies.

However, balancing future wind capacity across regions with contrasting inter-regime behaviour—specifically deploying in the Balkans instead of the North Sea — would almost eliminate these output variations, maintain mean generation, and increase fleet-wide minimum output. Solar photovoltaics could balance low-wind regimes locally, but only by expanding current capacity tenfold.

New deployment strategies based on an understanding of continent-scale wind patterns and pan-European collaboration could enable a high share of wind energy whilst minimizing the negative impacts of output variability…

    no problems with renewables:

18 Jul: Reuters: Timothy Gardner: Wind, solar do not harm power grid reliability-draft U.S. study
The growth of renewable power, including wind and solar, has not harmed the reliability of the U.S. electricity grid, according to a draft U.S. Department of Energy study, echoing the findings of grid operators across the country.

The conclusion of the draft, dated July and viewed by Reuters, could ease fears in the renewable energy industry that the widely anticipated study would be used by President Donald Trump’s administration to form policies supporting coal plants at the expense of wind and solar.
“Numerous technical studies for most regions of the nation indicate that significantly higher levels of renewable energy can be integrated without any compromise of system reliability,” the draft says.

It added that growth of renewables could require the building of more transmission lines, advanced planning, and more flexibility to balance generation and meet demand.
***But it said that baseload power – coal and nuclear power – “is not as necessary as it used to be” given advances in grid technology…

Renewables and natural gas have displaced a slew of coal and nuclear plants in recent years, due to lower prices, environmental regulations and government subsidies. The draft said this is “not yet a problem for grid reliability and resilience – but further study is needed,” to determine ***how much of this “baseload” power can be lost while still ensuring reliability…

Officials at four grid operators, serving about 133 million customers, agreed renewables do not harm energy security or reliability…READ ON

18 Jul: Nature: Climate scientists flock to France’s call
President said ‘Make Our Planet Great Again’ — and researchers signed up.
    by Declan Butler
Hundreds of climate scientists, including many from the United States, have applied to work in France under a €60-million (US$69-million) scheme set up by the country’s president, Emmanuel Macron, after his US counterpart Donald Trump rejected the Paris accord on global warming. And Germany has announced that it will set up a similar programme to lure researchers.

Macron launched his ‘Make Our Planet Great Again’ initiative on 8 June, seeking to entice researchers in other countries to France with offers of 4-year grants worth up to €1.5 million. Six weeks on, the programme has been flooded with applicants, says Anne Peyroche, a biologist and the chief research officer of the CNRS, France’s national basic-research agency.

“Applications continue to come in every hour,” she says. Most applied for relatively short sabbaticals in France, but the 154 scientists attracted by longer-term stays of four years or more are of most interest to the initiative’s organizers, Peyroche says. France is also headhunting some top climate scientists individually, she adds. The scheme will shortlist as many as 80 scientists by mid-September, with 50 or so winners to be announced around the end of November.

One applicant is Ashley Ballantyne, a bioclimatologist at the University of Montana in Missoula. His proposal involves laying the foundation for a global integrated carbon-observing network, combining satellite and atmospheric data to seek insights into how ecosystems respond to climate change. “There are very few funding opportunities in the United States that promote research on carbon–climate interactions at the global scale, so the fact this programme was looking for visionary thinking was appealing,” he says…

The French offer is a “very attractive proposition for many scientists in the US”, says Kim Cobb, a palaeoclimatologist at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. US climate science is under pressure, she adds: scientists are waiting to hear whether Congress will approve Trump’s proposed drastic cuts to the field. Cobb says that, were she not a tenured scientist working in an exceptional research environment, she would be “jumping at the opportunity” to work in France…READ ON

Enticing foreign workers with offers of long-term, revenue-negative, cost-generating employment worth up to €1.5 million? That’s as ingenious as waging adventurist wars, making colossal arms sales, then deliberately swamping Europe with military age African males (but calling them Syrians and children, because who checks anyway?).

As a French leader of brilliance Macron is going to be ranked with Charles the Mad, Charles X…and Francois Hollande.

They should start recycling these Bildervos appointees rather than constantly training new ones. There’d be Emmanuel Turnbull, Malcolm Macron, Angela Baird, Tony Merkel, Barack Blair, Hillary Poroshenko, Chelsea Poroshenko…

18 Jul: Washington Times: Valerie Richardson: Macron climate pitch to Trump earning skepticism
Still, Myron Ebell of the Trump environmental transition team said he wouldn’t advise anyone to hold their breath waiting for the White House to re-enter the nonbinding pact…
Benny Peiser, director of the climate change-skeptical Global Warming Policy Forum in London, said Mr. Macron’s claim “has been both overhyped and misinterpreted by the news media.”
“In reality, it would appear that President Trump may have swayed Macron to change his position on the UN climate deal,” said Mr. Peiser in an email…

“In short, my assessment is that President Macron may be preparing the ground for giving up the EU’s rejectionist position about the Paris agreement,” said Mr. Peiser. “After all, this, I believe, is the only likely option to bring back the U.S. administration to the negotiating table — and even this scenario looks more like a utopian dream at the present time.”…

Climate Depot’s Marc Morano said that there will never be a reason for the Trump administration to rejoin as long as the premise remains that “only a U.N. central planning agreement can save humanity.”

“President Trump can use his negotiation charm to dangle the prospect of a renegotiated deal, but it is very clear that the U.S. is out and will stay out under his presidency,” Mr. Morano said in an email.

Climate Progress editor Joe Romm was also a skeptic, at least when it came to any chance of Mr. Trump re-entering the pact…

***”clearly recognised” by Bloomberg, Ross Garnaut and Giles!

19 Jul: RenewEconomy: Giles Parkinson: Base-cost renewables: When wind and solar finally kill coal
It is now ***clearly recognised, away from the imaginary world of the fossil fuel lobby, that the cheapest form of new generation in Australia – and most other places in the world – is wind and solar, and certainly not coal and gas (or nuclear)…
Recently, Bloomberg New Energy Finance predicted that the cost of new wind and solar would soon beat the cost of refurbished coal plants…
Now BNEF predicts that solar will beat the cost of existing, fully depreciated and unrefurbished coal plants by 2032. And wind will follow soon after.

BNEF’s senior analyst in Australia Kobad Bhavnagri: “At that point it will be cheaper to build solar than it is to shovel coal into fully depreciated coal-fired power station.
“That is going to be a critical changing point in energy economics. It is one that was previously unthinkable, it was on no one’s horizon.”

And this is a prediction that will affect not just Australia. It will occur in just about every country in the world, including in China, also in the 2030s, with a stunning impact in energy markets across the globe.
The result of this, Bhavnagri says, will be a shift from the concept of “baseload” to a new concept that BNEF describes as “base-cost renewables.”…
“We are heading towards a completely different operating paradigm one,” Bhavnagri says…

This will have significant benefits to Australia, because as Ross Garnaut has predicted, Australia’s excellent wind and solar resources will mean that it will regain its position as the country with the cheapest cost of energy, which will be a plus for its manufacturing.
“Australia will match China and India in having the lowest cost renewables,” Bhavnagri says. “Australia will again become a focus for heavy industry and energy intensive industry…

Making energy ratings a factor in mortgage offers could let people borrow up to £11,500 more, says Lenders group
Homebuyers could take out bigger mortgages if the energy ratings of properties were factored into the lending criteria of banks and building societies, government-funded research has found…

However, if the A-G rating of the EPC was part of the calculation it would allow people to borrow £4,000 more in many cases and up to £11,500 in extreme ones, according to analysis by the Nationwide Building Society, Arup and building groups…

    wouldn’t you know…

19 Jul: Guardian: Michael Slezak: Third-hottest June puts 2017 on track to make hat-trick of hottest years
June 2017 was beaten only by June in 2015 and 2016, leaving experts with little hope for limiting warming to 1.5C or even 2C
Last month was the third-hottest June on record globally, temperature data SUGGEST, confirming 2017 will almost certainly make a hat-trick of annual climate records, with 2015, 2016 and 2017 being the three hottest years since records began…

The figures also cement estimations that warming is now at levels not seen for 115,000 years, and leave some experts with little hope for limiting warming to 1.5C or even 2C…
The data line up closely with Nasa figures released last week, which are calculated slightly differently, finding the month was the fourth-hottest on record – with June 1998 also being warmer in their data set…

Last year, Michael Mann from Pennsylvania State University published a paper showing the then-record temperatures in 2014 would have had less than a one in a million chance of occurring naturally.
“We have a follow-up article that we’ve submitted showing that the likelihood of three consecutive record-breaking years such as we saw in 2015-2017 was similarly unlikely,” he told the Guardian over email. “In short, we can only explain the onslaught of record warm years by accounting for human-caused warming of the planet.”…

Andy Pitman from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia said the onslaught of very rapid warming in the past few years is likely a result of the climate system “catching up” after a period of relative slow warming caused by natural variability – the so-called “hiatus”.
“I do not think the recent anomalies change anything from a science perspective,” he said. “The Earth is warming at about the long-term rates that were expected and predicted [by models].”…
“It would be a good idea to cut greenhouse gas emissions rather faster than we are.”

A new CLIMATE-SCIENCE PARADIGM is here! A recently published study by Nikolov and Zeller (2017) exposes a deep misconception about the nature of the so-called “Natural Greenhouse Effect” with fundamental implication for current climate theory and climate model projections. For the fist time in 190 years, we now have a solid empirical evidence that “greenhouse gases” do NOT control planetary climates including Earth’s climate. CO2 is innocent!

      Curious George

Ned, I applaud your attempt to create an alternative theory. As an ex-physicist, I wonder why you calculate an ill-defined “Global mean annual near-surface temperature” – probably because that’s what alarmists always raise panic about. Also, why you use as an input an even more imaginary “the planet’s mean surface temperature in the absence of an atmosphere”. This again follows the logic of an alarmist’s scaremongering. My basic objection is that while a “mean temperature” is a useful mathematical construct, is has no direct physical meaning, and a limited biological meaning. You are reactive, not pro-active.

      10

      • #
        Ned Nikolov

        Dear George,

The mean global surface temperature of a planet is NOT a meaningless construct! Since temperature is linearly related to the kinetic energy of a gaseous system (according to the Gas Law), the average near-surface temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy contained in the lower troposphere of a planet. Because kinetic energy drives the climate system, the average temperature is an accurate marker of the “power” of the climate system.

As for the Tna temperature used in our analysis, it must be understood that one needs a reference, against which to assess the thermal effect of a planetary atmosphere. If you want the evaluate a planet’s Atmospheric Thermal Effect (ATE) currently known as the strength of the Greenhouse effect, you need to know the planet’s temperature without an atmosphere. Otherwise, you can’t quantify ATE, can you?
