Tony Heller

Three events on this week in the evenings:

Dr Tim Ball and Tony Heller (aka “Steve Goddard” who writes RealClimateScience) are visiting Australia!

One:  Canberra, Tuesday evening at Parliament House with Senator Roberts, Tim Ball, Tony Heller.

Two: Melbourne, Wednesday, 9 November 2016, Tim Ball to give the Bob Carter Memorial Lecture

Three: Sydney, Thursday, 10th November, 2016, Five Dock.

Details below for anyone interested. You must RSVP for Canberra, and book for Sydney.

Tim Ball — former Prof of Climate Science, has been in this for years, involved in three lawsuits, even one from Michael Mann for joking that he “should be in the State Pen, not Penn State”.  Tony Heller regularly stirs up trouble against NOAA and NASA in the most irreverent, no-holds-barred, way.

 —  I would love to spend time myself with these remarkable men (tho’ the 4,000km distance will stop me this time). Don’t miss it. — Jo

Wishing Malcolm, Tim and Tony all the best for a very successful week – perhaps drawing attention as much to the politics as the science of ‘climate change’. Indeed, Tim Ball’s book ‘The Deliberate Corruption of Climate Science’ is a terrifying overview of the politics.

“It does raise the question of what’s going to happen at the next [big UN climate meeting] …

when temperatures are likely to be no warmer than they were at the time of the Paris COP [Conference of the Parties],” says Prof Myles Allen, head of the Climate Dynamics Group at Oxford University’s Department of Physics.

The controversy over the fifteen-year so-called global warming “pause”, has left climate scientists bruised and somewhat baffled.”

How scientists plan to avoid another global warming “pause” row

“Scientists need to fight the inevitable misinformation campaign when temperatures fail to rise in orderly fashion”

The ONLY places that experienced that extra warmth were those directly affected by the El Nino

A bit warm splodge was sitting over northern Europe basically all year… Until now.

That warmth has migrated to the Arctic, on its way out of the system.

Northern Europe is now rebounding from that El Nino transient with a vengeance.

“Scientists need to fight the inevitable misinformation campaign when temperatures fail to rise in orderly fashion”

Put another way. Climate “scientists” should feel obligated to take to the streets to highlight the misinformation put out by their climate models.

They don’t for many reasons like:
It would draw more attention to the obvious.
      They’re funded not to.
      They’re compliant eco-political manikins.
They’re too emotionally invested in models.
      They’re just scared.
They know their invalid models stink but could never admit it in public.
Their hope in model forecasting springs eternal.
      They believe in precautionary “science.”
They’re over imbued with a Messiah complex and want to “Save the Planet.”

A Canadian eh ? Dr. Ball good luck .
Senator Roberts deserves a great deal of thanks for not being bullied and intimidated
by promoters of the scary global warming industry .
Science is all about exploration, debate not intimidation to silence .

The fact is climate changes , it’s slowly warming and humans impact every single thing
on earth just by being here . The study of climate science is just beginning not at an end or ” settled ” .

Think about it who’s interests want it to be settled ?

A trillion dollar scare industry to shake people down and transfer power. If the billionaires were really
all that worried why do they jet set and live on waterfront properties while preaching doom ? IT’s a scam
    running out of runway .

The best thing for the world is for USA voters to DRAIN THE SWAMP and TAKE THEIR COUNTRY BACK .

The establishment will do ANYTHING and EVERTHING to try and make sure that does not happen .

At least Australia has some people who can think for themselves .

It is a shame that the word “science” has been so entangled with the political surrounding a religious belief of Climate Change through burning carbon. I acknowledge that Tim Ball concluded this many years ago and is possibly the best exorcist available to rid Australia of this anti-science demon. True science does not need defending. The challenge is to expose the political and religious nonsense for what it without dragging science any lower.

It is truly sad that science is on the back foot here trying to dispel the greenhouse gas nonsense. It highlights how gullible and poorly educated individuals can latch onto nonsense.

I listened to one of Tim’s presentations and he likens the modellers to creating an alternate reality where they are so convinced their models are perfect that they have to adjust the data to fit the models.

I will look forward to video of the Canberra session.

    BoM, 2008: Australian Drought Permanent.

“IT MAY be time to stop describing south-eastern Australia as gripped by drought and instead accept the extreme dry as permanent, one of the nation’s most senior weather experts warned yesterday.

“Perhaps we should call it our new climate,” said the Bureau of Meteorology’s head of climate analysis, David Jones.

    http://www.smh.com.au/news/environment/this-drought-may-never-break/2008/01/03/1198949986473.html

BoM, 2016: Not one of Australia’s main agriculture areas is in short-term drought, a rare event that last occurred in 2001, says Blair Trewin, the Bureau of Meteorology’s senior climatologist.

In September, for the time in years, the Bureau of Meteorology didn’t produce a drought map because it was not needed.

    Speaking of Tim Ball lawsuits….

Tim Ball is not a climate science expert, and this has been admitted in a court of law.

After the Calgary Herald published an op-ed by Ball on April 19, 2006, whom the newspaper identified as the first climatology PhD in Canada and a climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg for 28 years, they published a letter on April 23, 2006 from Dr. Dan Johnson, a professor at the University of Lethbridge, who pointed out that neither of those descriptions is true; that Dr. Ball’s credentials were being seriously overstated. Ball later threatened Johnson and the Herald and ultimately sued for defamation.

In their Statement of Defense filed in Court, the Calgary Herald submitted the following:

    1. “…that the Plaintiff (Ball) never held a reputation in the scientific community as a noted climatologist and authority on global warming.

    2. “The Plaintiff has never published any research in any peer-reviewed scientific journal which addressed the topic of human contributions to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming

    3. “The Plaintiff has published no papers on climatology in academically recognized peer-reviewed scientific journals since his retirement as a Professor in 1996;

    4. “The Plaintiff’s credentials and credibility as an expert on the issue of global warming have been repeatedly disparaged in the media; and

    5. “The Plaintiff is viewed as a paid promoter of the agenda of the oil and gas industry rather than as a practicing scientist.”

    Ball dropped his lawsuit.

Source: The Calgary Herald, Statement of Defense – paragraph 50, Dr Tim Ball v The Calgary Herald, In the Court of the Queen’s Bench of Alberta Judicial District of Calgary, Dec 7, 2006 (http://is.gd/brO4uO).

      Hello David,

Thank you for providing me with the opportunity to show you to be wrong once again. Let me begin with the dropping of the lawsuit. It was dropped because there was no “big oil” money backing Dr. Ball, as many of your cohorts love to scream from their pulpits. It follows then, that if the lawsuit was dropped, none of your 5 talking points were verified ( or you do not understand how courts work ). It is kind of you to acknowledge there is no “big oil’ funding for skeptics.
I would also like to address the 5 talking points. If Dr. Ball and his credentials are not valid ( which is interesting as he has gone through two sets of discovery years ago in the lawsuits against him by two high profile (but poorly regarded ) climate modellers and his alleged lacking credentials was shown to be false. That is two more lawsuits against Dr. Ball than any other skeptic. Seems to blow your contentions out of the water, Mr. Appell. I am afraid you have taken more of my time than I would normally afford you (zero), but I feel it is important that people clearly see where you are coming from.

      Cheers,

          No it’s not a mistake.

And let’s not forget to remember that about 94% of all CO2 is of NATURAL origin ie not man made.
Human origin CO2 is exactly the same chemically as that originating from nature and is naturally sequestered in 2 to 4 years so that after 7 years any batch of human origin CO2 is Sequestered by nature. All disparu.

The unipcccc would have us believe it sits forever in the sky waiting to strike and incinerate mankind.

I will be attending the Parliament House event on Tuesday… looking forward to it.

Once I was an alarmist, then I did some research on this, CO2 IR absorption lines (only the 15 micron line is within – but outside the bilk of- Earth’s radiation into space, black body radiation (15 microns equates a black radiator at – (yes minus) 80 deg C (but remember unlike an emission line a black body radiator has a broad emission across IR wavelengths- hence more energy), and the short distance through the atmosphere the 15 micron radiation is absorbed – 5 metres (the troposhere is 10 000 metres). And of course Climate Gate.

Jo – thank you so much for this blog I am a regular visitor but have only contributed a couple of times. I contribute regular to Don Aitkin’s blog. Sorry to hear you are not attending.

I cannot find the full conference. All I can find is brief snippets of MR trying to defend hid position against a hostile media>
SMH- Malcolm Roberts’ climate change press conference starts bad, ends even worse
Huff – Malcolm Roberts Denies Climate Science, Rod Culleton Compares Self To Muhammad Ali
Australian One Nation call for audit over CSIRO climate claims (actual reporting)
SBS – Climate denier senator wants CSIRO inquiry

If you have a link to the full conference I would be interested.

      10

      • #

        no I don’t know of a transcript.

You can interpret the media as being hostile but actually they had no interest in his message and he should have guessed that this would be the case. The first press conference by a ON senator and it was called during the Culleton nonsense, and he thought the press would listen to his message about climate? In the circumstance it would have been better to do nothing and wait a week or so when the heat would be off. He has the ON press secretary to blame I suppose.

He might have felt pressure given he has his report co-authors in town but the wiser move would have been to go ahead with the road show, hope to bank some public interest and get the message out unhindered by messy stories about foolish senators, and then finish the tour with a PH press conference.

          22

        • #

So do tell Gee Aye, why the media were not interested in his message — is it because:

a/ they don’t understand anything about science and parroting agencies is all they can do (that’s got to be a given)

b/ they don’t care about the Australian climate (it’s not important to get the science right, it’s only about farms and frogs, whatever).

c/ they don’t care if Australian taxpayers waste billions on fruitless efforts to change the weather instead of using the funds on medical research / education / pick-your-choice.
          or
d/ Even if Malcolm were right they couldn’t print that — the editor wouldnt let them, their associates would mock them, and their friends wouldn’t invite them to dinner any more.

          e/ all of the above…

          82

          • #

Do you want me to address your characterisations? Seriously? You could make up a hundred of them with the same lack of effort.

Answer f) none of the above.

The answer is indifference to his message (his message as he sells it, at which he is showing a lack of skill at achieving, not what you want his message to be) and interest in his Senatorial colleague. No need for complicated victim-hood theories such as yours.

            24

            • #

Go right ahead and address them. Show me how journalists have done any kind of cross examination of establishment scientists — do the journo’s serve the people and test the scientists or are they just unpaid advertisers who parrot their press releases…

              83

              • #

Sounds like those journalists are not capable of asking the questions you want them to address so why be the victim of their neglect. Poor you and Malcolm. In that case I’ll go for e) all of the above even where the evidence is lacking and my opinion is supported by the context of the conference and the evidence of what actually happened, rather than fantasies about green leftie press boss bullies.

Now for me to bark some questions to you.

Did Malcolm invite any science journalists to his press conference in Parliament house (not a place such journalists frequent) that he called under the auspices of his political party in his capacity as a senator?

Do you disagree with me that he and his press aid, displayed a lack of nous by holding the conference when they did and that his preparedness for what eventuated demonstrated that he has a lot to learn about holding press conferences in the role of a senator?

                33

              • #

OK, so you have no examples from the entire Australia press contingent of any real investigation. Thanks. We can both agree that science reporters are glorified ad-writers — there to promote the government science industry.

I don’t know who Malcolm invited. I’m not his press secretary.

Of course Malcolm does not have expert PR nous. So here’s a question for you — Do you think it’s more important that our Senators are good at schmoozing and performing in the 24 hour circus of pretend-journalists, or would we rather have Senators who are focused on evidence and outcomes of policy?

                92

              • #

I think it is important that he does a good job. I don’t care if he shmoozes or not but he failed at what he tried at the press conference through incompetence. He failed not the press. Looking forward to some sign that he learned something.

                33

              • #

So if the press succeeded, what did they succeed at?

                50

              • #

I never said the press succeeded at something although once Robert walked out they probably felt pleased with themselves.

When I wrote that “He failed not the press”, of course I meant that with respect to getting his message across, it was though his making, just his, that he did not have a good press conference. He should not have held the conference there and then but his effort once there was quite hopeless – it could have been better (but probably never as good as intended) with that press contingent, and that topic but using a different approach. One thing to do is to get the press on side by first giving them what they wanted about the eligibility of the other senator. Hanson’s statement in parliament that diffused it was later in the day which again suggests that the communications within their group was wanting.
