Rio: The Political freeloaders hide — but is it their failure or their plans they don’t want you to see?

I wrote yesterday about the unprecedented way the UN was locking out anyone at Rio that was not part of an official government delegation. More than ever before, the UN is not even pretending to to serve the people of the world. Even the facade is gone. The rules have changed since Monckton, Watts Up and the internet spoiled the party at Durban.

All the heroic NGO’s have been blocked from the negotiations (as well as those evil free market libertarians). They are only there for the theatrics. The real action goes on behind closed doors, in what Monckton calls a “concrete bunker”.

Lord Monckton Reports From Rio, via SPPI

The global coming together is not united. It’s separate conferences for the VIP’s and the riff-raff now. There’s a tent city darkly called “The People’s Congress” — which used to be near the main plenary sessions hall, but has been moved miles away. (Who needs “The People?”).

“Then the non-government organizations have been “corralled in the filthy, soulless, crumbling Rio Centro conference center, where hundreds of armed, sharp-suited UN goons kept them determinedly away.”

“Thirdly, to symbolize the total separation of the governing class from the governed that will become the norm as the UN takes power, the governmental delegates, traveling in a thousand-strong fleet of gas-guzzling, carbon-emitting limousines escorted by secret police on Harley-clone motorcycles, have been kept in near-total isolation from the non-government organizations and from the mere people.”

“If somebody hides something, it is because somebody has something to hide.”

Monckton explains why the UN is so afraid of the draft text leaking

The journalists are allowed in apparently, possibly because there is no danger of them reporting what is actually going on. (After all, environmental journalists are on a good junket too.)

So why the obsessive secrecy? Why are the national negotiators kept away from the non-government organizations that have always had access to them until now? Why are the updated negotiating texts not made available? One reason stands out. The UN knows perfectly well that if the people knew what was being inserted into the generally anodyne negotiating text they would not stand for it.

An example. Last year, at the Durban climate conference, I obtained a copy of the negotiating text, summarized it, and posted up the summary at WattsUpWithThat. A couple of days later WordPress, which hosts half a million blog postings every day, got in touch to say that that posting had attracted more hits than any other that day. Why were people so interested? Because not one of the thousands of journalists in Durban had bothered to report what was actually in the negotiating text.

My report revealed that the climate conference was proposing to grant Mother Earth the right to sue any Western nation in a new International Climate Court, and to cut CO2 concentration by half, extinguishing most plant and animal species on Earth. The disastrous publicity arising from these revelations led the UN to abandon fully half of the Durban negotiating text within 24 hours of my revealing its contents.

The UN was determined not to suffer this humiliation again. So it has ensured that the pre-conference draft contains so little of interest that even Greenpeace has condemned the UN for not going far enough. Instead, all the really damaging material has been kept secret. No doubt it will be inserted into the text during the negotiations. It will then be presented as a fait accompli after the usual all-night session, and the world’s media will dutifully congratulate the negotiators on a job well done.

A senior UN official to whom I spoke said that the organization had now become so corrupt that a number of sexual and financial scandals had occurred at the headquarters building in New York. The UN, he said, was hushing them up by not reporting them to the police authorities in New York as protocol demanded. He said that the revelation of the contents of the updated Durban negotiating texts had led to a major rethink within the UN, which had decided to set up the elaborate pantomime that I have described, preventing any but a carefully-selected few from getting alongside the negotiators.

“Transparency?” he snorted. “Not under Ban Ki-Moon. Everything is now hidden – and the UN has a great deal to hide. But don’t quote my name – these people are vindictive.”

As I said at a press conference here, the UN has outlived its usefulness and should now be brought to an end. Everything it does could be better done, at far less political and financial cost, by individual nations cutting out the predatory UN middlemen.

The UN has had its day. Time to abolish it, in an act symbolic of the freedom and democracy that we, the people, intend to keep for ourselves whether the dictators-in-waiting and their fawning lickspittles in the mainstream news media like it or not.

I like reading Monckton. His optimism and cheerfulness as he faces down such wicked corruption is refreshing…. and he is not just a pretty phrase either, he is also very effective.

He is right about the UN being past its useby date. Time to stop funding it.

I not only like reading LM but I like him too; actually I think what he is doing is Herculean and without his efforts the anti-AGW effort would be much less.

In contrast we have our PM being feted by Ban Ki-Moon. She really has a lot to answer for.

Monckton’s inimitable commentaries are all that makes the continued existence of these shindigs in any way worthwhile.

This new tactic of secrecy by the organisers highlights just how effective he has been at exposing their shenanigans previously.

His ability to take the brickbats and perform under fire are what sets him apart though.

Well the two previous incarnations of the UN were utter failures and and were disbanded and I totally agree that this incarnation has well and truly reached its use by date, thank you Lord Monckton for all the work you do to expose this gigantic scam.

As long as UN is more UNEP that UN, it means that radical environmentalists are in control of UN.
The NGO’s are there vis UNEP and national environmental agencies.
Non democratic radicals out to radicalize the World?
Close down UNEP or in worst case UN.
Close down national environmental agencies too.

Another aspect, will they be using all available gray literature?

Or as I fear only gray literature paid for or made by the radical environmental NGO’s like WWF or Greenpeace?(For a global socialist future)

Wasn’t it at the first Rio bun-fight 20 years ago that the UN pulled the trick of insisting that the NGOs be included in the process, to give it a veneer of inclusiveness and consultation?
I’m sure that was the start of the whole fake-charities NGO lobbying thing.
    Full circle then.

    00

    • #

Not quite. The ‘important’ NGOs (WWF Greenpeace) are still in the thick of it. Their negotiators represent many of the smaller nations such as Maldives, Tuvalu etc.

So this tactic by the UN is NOT to cut out the multi-national NGOs, but to cut-out the likes of CFACT Heartland and other sceptical organizations.

Rest assured, WWF and Greenpeace are busy helping write these UN resolutions.

Pre-Rio 1992 there were many reports of street kids getting rounded up and disappeared so the place would look clean for the visitors. There were so many of these reports that one suspects credibility.
Are you trying to say now that they should have rounded uo bodies like Greenpeace and WWF and disappeared them instead?
There’s a certain logic there. In a non-violent way, since nobosy has told me that ‘disappearing’ is painful.

Hmmm, not sure about “If somebody hides something, it is because somebody has something to hide”. Isn’t that the reason used to justify the reading of all our texts and emails?

    00

    • #

Charlie, good point. Let’s fine tune that statement. If it’s private information then the default position is that it’s private. We’re not hiding something. It was never someone elses’ information to see.
But if it’s taxpayer funded then it’s public information. The default is transparency. We paid those people to go there. They are making deals about our money, our rights, and our blood sweat and tears. In environmental negotiations (not national security) there is no reason to hide it unless you want to deceive someone.

Perhaps those with connections could organize a UN-reform week. That would entail a full telling of the UN from start to present, and future Most people don’t know how insidious it is. There is more than enough in the US that want to get rid of it (including me), but I believe to get a ‘concensus’ the attempt should be of reform and chopping the legs off. It’s easier to say “we should keep the UN in order to better intimate diplomacy, including resolving disputes; but we need to get rid of the scumbags, criminals, and inefficiency”.

With our elections in 4 and half months, this would be something for ‘sustainable’ momentum. That movie U.N. Me just came out or soon will, the info from this farcical meeting soon to follow, and I’m certain more missteps, all would provide more of a baseline. The entertainment (news) media in the US loves a good embezzlement case, or crime (especially sexual, right DSK?), combined with the level of officials involved. Plus it will lead to further stories of power and/or corruption, it becomes perpetual and they’ll have stories for months. Obama sycophants and the White House will like it as it takes the focus off them. It’s perfect.

Just a thought; hope it occurs.

Thanks for the update, Jo, as well as the recent post about Agenda 21. These commies are like covert zombies.

The Agenda 21 piece prompted me to do some research on it, ICLEI and Jeb Brugmann. ICLEI is the really scary part of all this. This guy has been pushing a (surreptitious socialist) agenda at the city level since the 80s, the UNers hooked up with him around 90. Through ICLEI, he is quietly and cleverly implementing the goals of Agenda 21 at the municipal level all around the world, what he call “The Global City”, thousands upon thousands of cities. Most of the cities here in California, certainly. Here in San Diego, I looked up just one powerpoint presentation given by the city manager regarding the planning process in anticipation of rising sea level on various city functions/locations. It included projections, of course, over the next 50 and 100 years. The whole thing was produced by ICLEI!! It has its tentacles reaching throughout the “global city” bureaucracies. I urge folks around the world to to find out what is going on in this regard in your locale, investigate, get involved in the process and let your voice be heard on the matter. Maybe it’s too late. But with the current CAGW disarray, perhaps now is the ideal time to begin the pushback.

Just google iclei.org and/or Jeb Bruggman and go from there. Though it’s never quite spelled out, it’s clear that “sustainability” is intended to ultimately REPLACE capitalism and private property.

Don’t forget the children. Agenda 21 has been smuggled into the classrooms of schools, colleges and universities around the world – government-funded propaganda in the classroom. The UN always intended to focus it’s ‘sustainability’ manifesto primarily on the young, considering older generations ‘lost’ (i.e. hostile) to the doctrine and therefore not worth concentrating on. But, just like all successful political/cultural revolutions, by focusing on the young the UN felt sure they could indoctrinate entire generations in plain sight, with nobody the wiser – as long as a compliant, uncritical media failed to ask any difficult questions.

It was a lesson learned from ‘The European Project’ over decades. Whilst we can all now see the EU exposed as the dogmatic socialist empire-building exercise it always was, for years the EU’s real intentions hid under the radar, whilst Eurocrats constructed their new socialist utopia by stealth, maintaining that a federal Europe was never their ultimate goal. They carefully targeted the young, cunningly framing their ‘inclusive’ rhetoric to appeal to students; to young impressionable minds. ‘The European Project’ was always intended to find it’s foundations amongst the young – hearts and minds, people, hearts and minds.

George Orwell wrote 1984 as a warning to future generations. The UN and the EU mistook it for an instruction manual.

Why is Julia so silent concerning the “LAW of the SEA” treaty considering it is such an important topic at Rio? Keep in mind the new Marine Parks encompassing Australia’s territorial land mass as the conference will be assessing “how well the multiple goals and objectives of previous international efforts have been met”.

I refer to the UN’s “Blueprint for Ocean and Coastal Sustainability”.

……. ii] Aim of the report

The aim of the report is to provide context for Rio+20 discussions through analysis of current challenges in ocean and coastal management around the world, assessment of how well the multiple goals and objectives of previous international efforts have been met, and building on recent dialogue and inputs including the meeting of the UN Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea [UNICPOLOS] and the Secretary Generals report on Oceans and the Law of the Sea……

Rio+20: Looking Towards the Ocean Future We Want

Posted on June 22, 2012 by C. Ryan Ono, Global Ocean Forum Secretariat
Hello from Rio! We would like to report on the oceans outcomes of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20 Conference), where governments, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations worked together and individually to promote the oceans agenda.

The Rio+20 Conference is about to draw to a close, and the outcome document is soon to be adopted. Thanks to the many delegates and governments, and sustained pressure and support of the oceans community, there are 20 paragraphs in a dedicated section on oceans and seas, and an additional three paragraphs on small island developing States (SIDS) in the outcome document, which stressed the critical role the oceans play in all three pillars of sustainable development, and “commit[ed] to protect, and restore, the health, productivity and resilience of oceans and marine ecosystems, and to maintain their biodiversity, enabling their conservation and sustainable use for present and future generations.”

‘(10) Ensure that economic activities and institutions at all levels promote human development in an equitable and sustainable manner.’

This is one of the Principles in the Charter of ICLEI. None of them actually encourage the concept of economic growth. The following outlines the lobbying/buffering efforts Of the International Council (‘Association’) on behalf of its ‘members’ at the city level in regard to State and National governments:

    ‘Charter 1.6 – Representation Mandate
The Association shall serve as an international representative for its members and program participants by providing advocacy before national and international governments, agencies and organizations and multilateral bodies to increase their understanding and support for local sustainable development and environmental protection activities. Through such advocacy, the Association will work to achieve an effective division of responsibilities and resources for sustainable development and environmental protection between the various spheres of government.’

While ICLEI’s intent would seem to weaken state/national opposition in regard to city-level goings-on, another Principal assures us that there is “nothing to see here — move on”:

‘(13) Strengthen democratic institutions at all levels, and provide transparency and accountability in governance, inclusive participation in decision making, and access to justice.’

    Charter 2.3 – Obtaining Membership
Membership may be requested by submitting an application, through which process the Charter is explicitly accepted, and paying an annual dues fee. The Global Executive Committee reviews applications and accepts or rejects the application according to criteria specified in the By-Laws. Membership becomes effective with acceptance in writing by the Association and receipt of the first annual (12-month period) dues fee.

The direct link to the article on the SPPI Blog still works.

There’s a Rio+20-related report by Fread Pearce published by the Nude Socialist.

Climate panel adopts controversial ‘grey’ evidence
Climate scientists are likely to face charges of putting politics before science, following two decisions by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

At a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, earlier this month, the IPCC decided for the first time to impose strict geographical quotas on the elected officials that make up its bureau. There will also be a push to increase the representation of women among its authors.

It had also voted at a meeting in Kampala in November 2011 to increase the role in those assessments of “grey literature”: publications not subject to peer review. Using such material in the last assessment is what led to the “glaciergate” scandal in 2010, when the report was found to have vastly overestimated the rate at which Himalayan glaciers are losing ice.

    Jo,

    Hugely off o/t.

I’m in the middle of nsw and connect through a two-way satellite (bigpond) and using windows 7 and I can’t now pick up your site using my normal browsing habits. However, if I use a VPN (hide my ass – free), like I am now, then I can view your site.

I also have wireless broad-band (through – bigpond 7.2 gateway) connected and it has no problems with your site using normal browsing habits and using the same windows 7 platform.

The question is: why is the two-way satellite (normal browsing) blocked, yet using a VPN the two-way satellite lets me through ?????????????????????

I have absolutely no problems viewing your site using normal browsing habits, in other words just as normal and without the use of a VPN.

To allow idiots like Hasbeen to post unchecked does nothing to bolster the sites credibility. I hurried here to post the link only to find you are ahead of me in posting the story (though with a more Brenchley perspective).

Only one week to go and my carbon tax government propaganda pack from last year is still in its original wrapping, waiting to be sent back to Greg Combet on the 30th. He said “bad laws have to be broken.” We must do as Ivan says, da?

If Julia “Eileen Left” Gillard’s Top 1000 erm 500 erm 243 derdiest polluders could just tell the CCA, CEC, and ATO where to stick their carbon bill, what could the government possibly do about it? I mean, we do outnumber them 100 to 1. The power stations give us civilisation. They’ve got our back, so we should watch theirs.

Hey ClimateGate FOIA Mole, you’re leaving it a bit late to unlock the All.7z aren’t you? The Rio conference should make great timing for releasing the password, and Australia could use a bit of help, hint hint.

Marc Morano says that “Australians should be rebelling in the streets”. In my travels around the railway tracks I have noticed railway holding yards built like prisons. The fences are razor wired, internally there are multiple speakers, camera’s and lights. They sure don’t look like they are built for a train to park in overnight and the rail lines are covered with brown rust. So they are just waiting for the appropriate time to be used. The government is ready and waiting for a public reaction in my opinion.

And what about the “Green” Jesus overlooking Rio? They’re getting very cocky.

The UN has become a process. A vastly expensive and unwieldy process that has become so divorced from real world problems that the best it can come up with is:- A process to identify worthy new ‘Sustainable Development’ goals. Nothing too useful or contentious mind you, just something that would fit nicely in its comfort zone and continuing to justify its existence.

Has it become a Process looking for a Problem ? Though a problem that won’t tax or disturb the Process too much. When the next cosy junket, anyone ?

Somewhere in the not so distant past, here on this site if memory serves, this idea was briefly discussed. The idea being that various entities, organizations or “processes” if you like, have served their purpose and now continue to exist only to sustain themselves.

Not remembering who it was who stated it I think their comment was along the lines of “any organization that is created to solve a problem begins immediately shifting their focus from that of the problem to that of their survival” or something along those lines.

Many here in the US contend that the EPA had long since served its purpose in that many of the problems it was created to address have been addressed. Now we are left with a large government entity with all of the hungry mouths it feeds, i.e. the employees, needing to continually “discover” new problems to justify the continued taxpayer funded feeding of those hungry mouths.

Why would one expect the UN to be any different? While you may call it a process another may call it an organization and still another may refer to the UN as an entity, regardless of the label we place upon it the core issue is that of whether or not it still serves any purpose. As long as their is money and power to be had those who are a part of the UN, or who seek to be for that money and/or power, will fight for its continued existence. The form of that fight, as one would expect, will be the continued “discovery” of problems for which it finds itself as the “most suited” to solve.

Whether or not those problems are real in the scope of their goals is irrelevant, what matters is that they can convince the world those problems are real and that the world needs them to address those problems.

That is the “advertised” goal. The real goal is and has been for decades, maintaining their own existence, maintaining the funding, and retaining any powers they currently have while expanding those powers wherever possible.

One could easily argue that the UN’s goal of “sustainable development” really addresses their desire to sustain their own growth and development. A goal that is more easily accomplished if independent nations are subjugated to the UN’s desires with the further development of those nations being hindered if not completely halted by the UN.

You make a very valid point. Only none governmental entities could pull off this trick of surviving long past their ‘use by’ date. Any business trying the same trick would fail instantly. The access to money without the responsibility to really produce for its gain is the root of the problem.

Also I suspect there is a form of mutual ‘problem generation’ going on, nothing better to preserve financial existence than a problem which is global, caused by everybody and requires money from everybody to make it go away – or at least cause the problem to mutate into another global problem which everybody has caused – and on goes the money go round…

The er, analysts have decided that the UN is the problem…why the Rio thingie was such a washout.

Anyone with a brain might think, well the reason nothing is happening on the political front is because nothing is happening on the climate front…

I feel this desire to hit these 50,000 climateers with a bundled up roll of peer reviewed science papers to try to beat some sense into them but I fear even that wouldn’t have an effect. Collectively dumb as a box of rocks.

I have no problem with the UN being an agency for genuine benefit to humanity. as it was originally intended.

UNESCO, UNICEF.. they started out genuinely trying to help.

Unfortunately, it has got above itself and the people at the tiop have become corrupted with the possibiility of world political power.

A pity really, because now they are becoming the antithesis of all they could have been.

The nice thing, and it’s an admission of sorts, is that Rio+20 is so irrelevant, the politicians haven’t even bother to turn up. They’ve just sent some apparatchiks instead.

Politically, sending delegates is very useful. For instance, Bush Snr sent delegates to Kyoto with, I suspect, instructions to accept any proposals, no matter how ludicrous, which they did. The more ludicrous, the better. Everyone at Kyoto was happy at America signing up.

3 months later, ratification was refused by congress on a vote of 92 to 3, from memory. Everyone in congress was happy.

Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it?

Kyoto was the UNFCCC COP3 Conference in 1997 with Clinton as President and Al Gore as his VP.

Like everyone, the US signed up their original signature for the Protocol.

When it came to that all important second signature, Al Gore presented it to the U.S. Senate and they rejected it 95 – 0.

You do put it so much better Robert. Is a Process in search of a Purpose, purportedly to serve , really just looking for a Purpose to Serve its own continued existence.

I am reminded of Joanne’s brilliant IPCC sketch.

    Jo,

Blackmail and implied or underlying threats usually is how the power brokers try to get what they are trying to achieve.
Before many countries tried being the “hero” by big donations that would be note worthy. But tough economic times have limited the UN’s abilities.

I’m flabbergasted that it’s taken this long for public statements about UN corruption to show up here. Wasn’t it obvious? News of aid workers going to Africa to help people but raping the children instead was enough for me. The fact that there is no way to hold the UN accountable for its actions is enough for me. The fact that they put North Korea in as head of their so called “human rights” operation is enough for me. They have infiltrated our governments. How much more do we need?

They are an out of control criminal enterprise bent on taking over the world by subversion, by literally ruining whole economies and starving people to death. The evidence points to exactly this conclusion. And while at it they want to enrich themselves with the spoils of their war against us (war is not too strong a term).

Why can’t we acknowledge that there isn’t a thing worth saving about the UN? They’re trying to enslave us. We have to find ways to bite them back – and bite hard.

“Chapter 27: Strengthening the Role of Non-Governmental Organizations – Partners for Sustainable Development

    Introduction
Over the last decades, the importance of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in global governance has increased tremendously. Today, the UN and its agencies have grown dependent on NGOs to implement UN resolutions and goals, in a mutually beneficial relationship.”

Source: Review of implementation of Agenda 21 and the Rio Principles
    http://www.un.org/esa/dsd/dsd_sd21st/21_pdf/Study_1_Agenda_21.pdf

So it appears that the united NATIONS thinks that Non-Governmental-Organizations (like the UN, Greenpeace, WWF, Tides, etc) are important to Global Governance. Your vote is unimportant, only your donations to ‘Charity’ and funding of the ‘United NATIONS’.

People, you should read the UN Agenda 21 plan, it is quite an eye-opener. They really want and they really believe the UN and the NGOs should have domain over national elected governments. Read it for yourself.

This is real ‘Big Brother’ type stuff. They are not kidding.

“UN and its agencies have grown dependent on NGOs to implement UN resolutions”

    “NGOs to implement UN resolutions”

And you thought it was the United NATIONS, silly you.

Non Government Organisations (NGO) are slipping beneath the radar and people need to recognise these minority groups and counter their minority influence over government.

We need to get out of the UN. Not just stop funding. Governments around the world need to turn their backs on this organization and let it die an appropriate death. There should be no resurrection either – I wouldn’t trust it to be any different under any banner or behind any mask.

    The international agenda revealed by

a.) Climategate emails and documents in late November 2009, and
b.) Responses by leaders of nations, the news media, and scientific organizations

Will not be abandoned, but may sink out-of-sight again !

It is a much greater danger than global warming – a tyrannical, one-world government that evolved after 1945 by repeatedly distorting information on energy (E) stored as mass (m) in the cores of atoms, stars and galaxies.

    http://omanuel.wordpress.com/about/#comment-142

A one-world government, like that described in the UN’s Agenda 21 [1], might be acceptable, if that government were controlled by the people.

Perhaps that was the original intent, . . . to protect world leaders and society from possible destruction by “nuclear fires.”

But society has advanced since 1945 toward a government that distorts information to control people, like the one George Orwell described in a novel written in 1948 and entitled “1984″ [2].

The battle to restore contact with “reality” in modern science will be as formidable as historic battles against the forces of darkness, described in the

a.) Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 1) on the field of Kurukshetra
b.) Bible (1 Samuel, Chapter 17) in the Kingdom of Judah

    Thanks, JoNova, for your efforts.
