Global Warming — it’s just another joke

UPDATE BELOW:See also  the Shut Up Choir’s new song — self satire at work

Armstrong and Miller mock the Global Warming thought police as they tell us to ignore our lying eyes, and give us glossy printed pamphlets telling us what we are allowed to think.

The formerly fashionable theory of man-made catastrophe is becoming the regular butt of jokes. Bear in mind that half of the comedic team of Miller and Armstrong is known as an eco-activist (that would be Ben), and the skit isn’t necessarily poking fun at the science but at the militant marketing, and over-the-top dogma.

Possibly even funnier (in a tragic kind of way) are the comments from pro-man-made global warming fans. They think it’s funny too.

Parody is an artform too advanced…

I love this. I think the joke is more on the idiots who think a few cold winters and a bit of rain disproves global warming.

The sketch is clearly mocking ppl who confuse climate and weather, with an extra dig at the intimations of conspiracy and tyranny used to mask the lack of data that would support an argument.

Laugh til you cry. They don’t realize that a government that jails the people they don’t like for speaking “outside permitted lines” could just as soon jail them for some other spurious transgression. A tyranny is a tyranny. These fans of are the same ones who laughed at the 10:10 marketing disaster.

Thanks to Colin for suggesting it.

Update: Continuing on the theme of people silencing free speech, here comes The Hate Choir

More Useful Idiots who think they help the planet by reducing a science debate to a “shut up” campaign.

Tim Flannery is at it again creating maps of which suburbs will be inundated due to sea level rise.

    http://www.smh.com.au/environment/water-issues/rising-sea-levels-will-swamp-parts-of-sydney-20101215-18yak.html

There are 3 maps for each region, 50cm, 80cm and 110cm sea level rise!!! last time I checked we were heading for a 100mm rise.

    Re. the sea level maps…

“Every day, decisions are being made about where to build new houses and other infrastructure on the coast. … We also have to address the challenge of managing impacts to our existing development – for example where past decision-making did not address climate change risks, but where areas may be vulnerable to flooding as sea levels rise. Government roles in planning and setting benchmarks will therefore be central to risk management and in managing the large number of public good assets in the coastal zone.” [http://www.ozcoasts.org.au/climate/sd_fqa.jsp]

However, clicking on a map to see a particular area has this: “Note: These maps are a communication tool only and are not suitable for decision-making.”

    Seems like contradictory statements.

    Not only Flannery!

    http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/features/maps-show-southeast-queensland-climate-change-flooding/story-e6freowx-1225971661224

“CLIMATE change will ravage parts of the southeast as sea level rises wash away homes in inner-city Brisbane and the Gold Coast, new modelling shows.
Maps released by the Federal Government today show the havoc that will be caused by sea level rises over the next 90 years.

The lowest scenario, a 0.5m rise, is considered unavoidable by 2100 and will lead to inundation in suburbs including Albion, Mango Hill and Northgate along with bayside and beachside homes.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change puts the high level risk at a 1.1m rise and under that scenario, homes in Newstead, New Farm, Bardon, East Brisbane and Capalaba would be under water.

Bayside suburbs would be decimated and Gold Coast suburbs including Robina, Carrara, Southport would be affected along with vast swathes of canal suburbs and waterfront real estate.

The mid-range rise – 0.8m – will also leave homeowners in many suburbs with wet feet and is calculated based on the predicted effect from current global emissions.” And more.

    Plus extra amazement at

Wow, cognitive dissonance resonating. Just amazing. I suggest this person watch it again and listen to where the laugh-track is put in. The people aren’t laughing when he “confuses” climate and weather, the laughter comes in when he is penalized for speaking by a government run amok. This is a government that people like said commenter helped influence with their lack of critical thinking skills.

Looking more and more like the world of Evey and V with comments like that. That would be a world with nothing but group-think and accepted denigration of those who think differently.

As the carbon/AGW thing dies down, it will be seen to have been far more expensive, corrupt and scandalous than, say, the millenium bug or ozone scares (or the cooling scare of the seventies). There will be accusations and prosecutions.

My feeling is that it won’t be skeptics making scapegoats, but retreating alarmists. A bit like reformed smokers and drinkers being the worst wowsers. Skeptics have been laughing their heads off at the blatancy of Gore, Flannery, Pachauri etc for years. An ex-alarmist is more likely to bang on about how they were betrayed and deceived. (“I feel so violated!”)

We’re already seeing this with so-called “moderates” like the shifty and stupendously wordy Judith Curry, who conceals her sly careerist nature under mounds of earnest, impenetrable prose.

If celebrities and entertainers are now starting to giggle about “aspects” of AGW, they’re also arranging a tippy-toe retreat for themselves.

The only ex-warmist I’d trust is the one who, instead of talking about being betrayed and lied to, says straight out: “I was wrong. Me. There was plenty of skepticism and informed debate out there, and I chose to ignore it. Me.”

I’m not saying that one shouldn’t lock up flagrant warmist crooks if you can prove a legal case. But scapegoating when so many millions have been complicit will not be justified. It’s akin to prosecuting tobacco companies when the entire human race has known for centuries about the destructive effects of smoking.

    janama:

Even the low-end prediction of 50cm by 2100 means a rise of 18mm/year, every year, starting now. Considering that going by satellite data (which some are questioning), the last 4 years has been 1mm/year, there’s a lot of catching up to do. Even with the average for the last 18 years of 3mm/year, sea level rise needs increase six-fold, and stay that way for 90 years, or be much, much, much worse in later years.

One has to wonder whether they even consider current trends (since we’re told AGW is supposed to be in full swing right now) when building their models.

I found it very fanny. Nevertheless, Jo tells us the creators are activists. She might take it strange. But to me it is a very familiar phenomenon. The more realistic stream of a movement splits from the die hard core in a certain form of Perestroika.

I just picked upthat ridiculous story as well in the SMH:
    http://www.smh.com.au/environment/climate-change/rising-sea-levels-will-swamp-parts-of-sydney-20101215-18yak.html

    The maps are here:
    http://www.ozcoasts.org.au/climate/Map_main.jsp

Here’s the Disclaimer when you fire up the mapping tool:

    Disclaimer
These images have been developed to help communicate the risks of sea-level rise.

The images are not provided as professional advice, and should not be relied upon for site-specific decision-making or for making financial or any other commitments.

For decision-making purposes, appropriate independent professional advice should be obtained relevant to the particular circumstances.

Images of three inundation levels have been prepared for each area using sea-level rise values of 50cm, 80cm and 110cm. These inundation levels are relevant for the 2100 time period (low, medium and high scenarios based on IPCC projections and more recent science).

The sea-level rise values have been combined with a nominal highest astronomical tide (HAT) value for the region to give the inundation extent shown in each image. The HAT values for the region are based on tidal planes supplied by the National Tidal Centre for the nearest port(s).

The images use a ‘bucket fill’ method to determine the extent of inundation and should be considered as approximate only.

The actual impacts may vary as this model does not take account of existing sea walls, storm surge, erosion or other local factors.

The model does not include the dynamic response of unconsolidated shorelines (eg. sand, mud and shell) or the increase in tidal flows in coastal waterways that will result from different coastal configurations in some locations. Nor does the model take account of the effects of catchment flooding from coincident extreme rainfall events.

The images have been developed using a high resolution digital elevation model (DEM) that shows how water will flow over the land. The DEM has been hydrologically conditioned and enforced to represent a natural ground surface model.

All the talk about sea-rises and mitigations….take a look at the lift-out magaizine in the West Australian today (16th dec). The article on page 20 ” seawall cements visions for future” was interesting, in how Korea is presumably non-AGWers. Korea has just EXPANDED their land/mass by pushing the sea back using a cirlce of concrete walls -mainly to house a port on the doorstep of china.

But no doubtthe AGW camp ( perhaps Combet) will use this as ‘evidence’ that the science is settled and actions are being taken around the world, yet it was on the drawing baords as far back as the 70’s (wan;t this about the global cooling scare campaign time)?. If Korea is smart, they should ask the UN for some of the climate-change-comabatitive $$$. why not? They’ve included a 40MW wind farm and a 400MW, a 300MW, and a fuel cell technology park to follow.

With alternative energy sources all the rage, thisn sort of infrastructure investment seems to be a far better way to spend taspayers money than the Australian government has in recnt years; with cash-handouts, pinkbatts, solar subsidies, cash for clunkers, misplaced education revolution, etc. etc. and now NBN Co broadband (its been has revealed the rollout has placed halogens inside house – a fire would release toxoc chorine gas!!).

Way to go Korea…if only there Nth/Sth boarder can stabilise, it could be a economic boon for their peoples.

    bulldust –
surely the media should be called to account for all the alarmist rubbish they printed yesterday!

16 Dec: ABC: Ashlynne McGhee: Council rejects rising sea level forecast
The Gold Coast City Council in south-east Queensland says new Federal Government maps that show the likely effects of sea level rises are inaccurate…
Councillor Peter Young says the Federal Government’s climate change data is flawed.
“I would hope that this is worse than the worst scenario … fundamentally, they’re working with data that … at a very high level, doesn’t have the accuracy that we are working with locally,” he said.
“They’re using all sorts of assumptions that aren’t necessarily accurate in the local conditions.”
Cr Young says council will be releasing more accurate maps early next year.
“I’m concerned that people might take these maps as being really accurate – they’re clearly not,” he said.
“I’d encourage people to give consideration to the disclaimer that precedes the maps – it basically says, ‘don’t rely on these’.”

It is quite clear that these FRAUDESTERS are publishing maps of some inner Brisbane City suburbs and prime coastal real estate which will supposedly be flooded so as to devalue these properties.

I say bring on more of this sea level rise talk. I want a beachfront property but it’s too expensive right now for me. Once people panic we can buy up and do quite well out of it.

I understand manbearpig is doing just that.

Just don’t spend any any of my taxes, I want my capital gains to go to a good cause.

MadJak @ 26: this should be a dream (rare) opportunity. Just contract to buy the cheap land just above (elevation) the beach property you really want. Then get the e-mail addresses of the rich people on the real beach. Send them a constant supply of links to warmist websites all the while you subtly hint that you have wisely bought the “future beach property” above them. in a month drop a hint that you might be interested in their “under water” property. Then offer to trade them for your “prime future beach front land.

Lest there be any doubt that the Sea Green Singers’ are goofy watermelons, here are excerpts from two of their other epic works.

    Climate for Peace
    Verse 2
    The climate can change
    for better or worse,
    can mean life or death,
    be blessing or curse;
    and now we must learn
    from nature’s own laws
    that we are at risk
    and we are the cause.

    Asylum is a human right
    Verse 3
Holding centres are a crime, Close them all down x2
Oh, oh they must go, End the suffering, end the woe
Now’s the time to stop this crime – and
Let the people go – yes, Let the people go.

So, I’m just thinking about these countries “stealing” space from the oceans. Dubai, Israel and Holland are always the three that spring to my mind immediately, but there are many around the world engaging in this practice. Here in WA, we have our own city (Mandurah) built on the ocean around canals. Surely the evil people who are employing ingenuity should be stopped. I mean, can they prove that THEY are not causing global warming climate change?

Or perhaps the local governments that provide snow plows should be reprimanded. How evil is it to mess with nature by moving all that snow around? Mother Nature spent considerable energy putting that snow and ice in a certain place. Who are we to move it? Think of the emissions we would save by not clearing the roads!

There are so many brilliant human inventions and innovations we should outlaw immediately. Maybe a “Top 100 People in History That Screwed Up the Planet” list would be in order?

(TIC, of course. Anybody got any photos of those windmills or solar panels frozen over?)

    Cheers,
    Janet

FYI from the Seagreen Singers website. If I’m not mistaken it seems to consist of a load of self-righteous middle class left-wing Guardian-reading do-gooders.

Imagine being able to sing your heart out – for things you believe in. Imagine singing in solidarity with people trying to change the world. Imagine a choir you don’t have to audition for – you just need to share the passion of singing for causes you care about. Well, here we are – the Oxford Sea Green Singers!

The Seagreen Singers are a community singing group based in Oxford. We sing songs to change the world. The group was formed after a class arranged by the Oxford Workers’ Education Association (WEA), and it’s been going for about 10 years.

We sing at events supporting peace and social justice around Oxfordshire. We’ve sung “alternative” carols for the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. We’ve run workshops at Campsfield Detention Centre to meet refugees and cheer the inmates and sung outside in support of the campaign to get it closed. We’ve performed at Fair Trade and Green Fairs, we’ve marched on demonstrations, we’ve supported environment and allotment open days.

The group is named after the colour of the ribbons worn by the Levellers, a radical movement in Cromwell’s Model Army. The Levellers believed in equality for all, justice, and human rights – things that inspire us, centuries later. We try to be true to the spirit of the Levellers – steadfastness in the face of oppression, determination to live by their principles.

Erm, no. This is standard BBC climate porn – it’s just being ironic, which seems to have been a bit lost in translation.

You are viewing this video in entirely the wrong light and making inferences based of that interpretation with regards a change in attitudes at the BBC with cannot be justified bases on the their output. The BBC world service has basically become 24 hour “Songs of Praise” for the Green religion, and this video reflects their default position – not mocking climate science, but mocking the skeptics.

The skit is of the Brechtian (read communist) school – “show that you are showing” – the man presents himself to the camera with his best village idiot routine – he is intimating to the audience, “look, this man is an idiot”.

The canned laughter, which indicates to the audience when they should be laughing, is laughing AT this “idiot” who says “whatever happen to global warming, eh?” and can’t see past the end of his own garden.

Note the sarcasm dripping from the voice over – look at this “idiot” who can’t tell the difference between weather and climate – the distain of the intonation infers that anyone who cannot look beyond their own garden is parochical, xenophobic, maybe even dangerously right wing!

Cut to them reading a government a issue book – not a pamphlet – this is serious, well researched data – data you can depend on – there are graphs and everything.

The village idiot is cured! He drops out of character, the suspension of disbelief is broken and he give an imperceptible nod to camera, implying that now is the point at which the viewer should consider the “moral”.

And the “moral”: That the viewer is FAR to smart to identify themselves with the “idiot”; they should smugly congratulate themselves for being neither parochial nor xenophobic, and of course for believing in climate change – becuase after all, anyone that doesn’t believe in climate change is a parochial xenophobe – aren’t they?

“… all wear green,” said a soft but very distinct voice, beginning in the middle of a sentence, “and Delta Children wear khaki. Oh no, I don’t want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They’re too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly colour. I’m so glad I’m a Beta.”

The mind control of the video is truly orwellian in its craftsmenship – so subtle it could be the whispering of the decanting chamber in a Huxlean hatchery and conditioning center. The “comedy” simply provides the diversion through which the message to can pass into the brain entirely unchallenged.
