Another 10:10 parody

Note: There’s gratuitous offensive violence here, all from the original 10:10  eco-snuff movie. I wrote about the deplorable nature of this in  Sick green-psycho-stars want to kill your children.

The first 1 min:18 of this is jolly good fun (watch that well informed class give the teacher a hard time), then, of course, you-know-what-happens. The Ten Ten Classroom Debate.

I know a few people would prefer the parodies were not here. I understand. But sadly this is tribal warfare. Bullies don’t respond to reason, but they do respond to ridicule.

We can’t make them un-do their original noxious nasty shocker (they made it a private video — meaning their “friends” are still enjoying watching it). It’s out there, it’s feeding the empty minds of zealots. Whether we like it or not, we  are compelled to use their own images to limit the damage. When the parodies rate well on YouTube the creators of the originals see their own sick-job out-rated, out-scored, and know that people are laughing at them.

Their sick video gives every no-name bully on their team a cheap thrill. We turn that thrill into a cringe.

Note the really important thing about the parodies is that we don’t use them to threaten the lives of others. We are not blowing up people who disagree with us. Our versions are fundamentally different to theirs. Our parodies show how dangerous they are…

A lot of people don’t read blogs, but they do surf YouTube.

This is better than ANY parody….

George has been calling people deniars for years and has TWO deniars halls of shame. One at the Guardian, one at the Campaign Against Climate Change

Richard Balck talks about 350 and the 10:10 Campaign Global event day……

And forget to mention……….350 dumping 10:10

    http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/10/04/the-1010-splattergate-goes-sploot-a-roundup/

The message from 350.org’s press shop:

We respect 10:10′s previous work to encourage companies, schools, and churches to voluntarily cut their carbon emissions 10%. Upon seeing the video, however, we have informed 10:10 that we can no longer remain partners on 10/10/10 or any other initiative. 350.org maintains an absolute commitment to nonviolence in word and deed.

    Sony dumping 10:10

    Official response from Sony:

“Thank you for your email concerning the video released by the 10:10 climate change campaign group. Sony has supported the 10:10 climate change campaign because we share its objective to reduce carbon emissions. However, we strongly condemn the “No Pressure” video which was conceived, produced and released by 10:10 entirely without the knowledge or involvement of Sony. The company considers the video to be ill-conceived and in extremely bad taste. We also believe the video risks undermining the work of the many thousands of members of the public, schools and universities, local authorities and many businesses, of which Sony is one, who support the long-term aims of the 10:10 movement and who are actively working towards the reduction of carbon emissions.

As a result we have taken the decision to disassociate ourselves from 10:10 at this time.

In our press statement we will be posting tomorrow morning we reaffirm our ongoing commitment to the reduction of global carbon emissions as part of our ‘Road to Zero’ environmental plan.”

I’m sure 350 do not appreciate Richard associating them with the 10;10 campaign anymore..

He could give them a call to check

The video would have been better if it stopped just as her fingers touched the red button (i.e. no blown up kids). Easy mod to make, just shorten it a few seconds.

    Dear Mr Wood

Thank you for your email to the O2 press office.

Along with 100,000 members of the public, leading businesses, schools and universities, local authorities and NHS Trusts, O2 supports the aims of the 10:10 campaign. We acknowledge our responsibility to the environment and are committed to reducing our carbon emissions both as an organisation and in society as a whole. 10:10 is an independent organisation and we don’t ask for editorial control over the content of its campaigns.

    Kind regards

… it is still a depiction of children being blown to bits.

And so those people who get gratification from seeing and mentally being part of such events will still get their gratification … the message is still, “violence is OK, it is regrettable, but necessary, if the cause is righteous”.

The world already has one crusade underway; one that is primarily based on the dichotomy between religion and science. We do not need another one.

Their sick video gives every no-name bully on their team a cheap thrill. We turn that thrill into a cringe.

Jo, with the greatest respect, I think you are wrong in this instance.

From a propaganda point of view, it is the violence that provides the kicker — the punch line — to the original “advert”. It is that, that makes it memorable. It serves the same purpose as the drowning puppy in the Bedtime story “advert”, but is several orders of magnitude worse.

    Steve Koch: #3

The video would have been better if it stopped just as her fingers touched the red button

I think we need to loose the whole “removing people at the press of a button” thingie.

What the parodies need to do is to quickly identify with the original, as the first 1.3 minutes of this one does, and then once people have related to the original story-line, give a complete let-down at the end, such as reducing the teacher to tears (she does wipe under her eye).

This is the essence of humour. It is the unexpected twist at the end — the punch line — the kicker — that people remember. The 1010 crew thought it would be funny because of the “edgy” twist of blowing up people. Parodies can only be funny, and carry an alternate message if they can confuse the “kicker” in the original. This one still contains the original violent kicker, so actually repeats the original violent message.

It runs the risk of reinforcing the message for those people who liked the original, and thought it might be a good idea to get rid of the sceptics in this way.

It’s clear that the comments are largely in support of the views presented in the article. There are a lot of comments there too.

But of course Sony is still on the climate change cut your carbon footprint bandwagon. They know which side of the PC circus is the best for their bottom line.

What will shame the corporate warmers enough to get them to stand back and smell the ugly stink from the climate change pushers? This is what we really need.

I have just read a notice of a man who observed a figure which we call Huyer by an old Czech movie. There is a fat unshaven man at the meeting with employees in the second film-set who is looking around at the others whether it is well opportunistic to join. Then he raised his hand in false involvement and after the Gore test he was checking the situation to confirm he really passed the Gore test. And he successfully did. In all Bolshevik movies there was at least one imperialistic subversive element who intruded in the really involved collective passing all cleansing. He was usually unveiled at the happy end when an iron fist of workers class hits him. The agitprop movie should have a continuation.

The BoM must be working overtime trying to adjust 2010 to be be the warmest year EVER. Here on the Mid North Coast we have had a cool winter and very pleasant spring so far. No early heat waves as in last year.

The news from NZ and the NIWA stuff up (now not the official temp dataset) should be sending bad vibes toward Canberra but no ones reporting it. Canberras decision to ruin agriculture for the sake of a freshwater lake which was once a salt water bay should also create havoc for the Gizzard. Remains to be seen. THe government says 800 jobs lost, the agricultural industry says 23000.

The proponents of AGW and it’s various manifestations ignore the science and the real data that disagrees with their fervent beliefs. Rising electricity prices and food scarcity may be the drivers of change; a change away from the Green religion.

A good parody, it reminds me of the time then-PM Kevin Rudd got nailed by a bunch of school kids – for some reason the kids didn’t know that some questions weren’t supposed to be asked. (They weren’t as tame as the “fearless journos” of the MSM.) I like the way the kids in the parody question the “unprecedented” nature of global warming and it’s inescapable connection to human activity etc.

That said, the clip could have dropped the last 10 seconds without any loss. Or maybe ended with a frustrated comment by the teacher asking them why they had to insist on thinking for themselves?

As Winston Churchill said – :”There is nothing more serious than a joke.” And the original 1010 clip provides a very serious and disturbing insight into the green totalitarian mind set.

    Cheers,

    Speedy.

Original or parody…either way it is still a depiction of children being blown to bits. Enough already.

Talk about (monu)mentally missing the point. The point of this is to emphasise the threatening of children (and anyone who doesn’t “believe”) by a mob of eco-bullies who have no sensible argument. An even more apt 10:10 parody would have the bullies wearing brown shirts.

That in itself makes it’s viewing all the more so insidious.

David (#32), you’re right, I don’t get it. I don’t understand screaming righteous indignation about the video and then promoting parodies of equally disturbing content, unless the disturbing part isn’t the point. I agree with others that a point can still be made minus the exploding kids. Maybe I’m overly sensitive but the imagery is disturbing regardless of the point being made. It reminds me too much of slayings by terrorists who then post the videos on the internet.

Hi there, I made the parody (thanks for the post on it Jo, and to the others who highlighted it on their blogs) and while I think there are strong points about not repeating the blowing up of children the point of parody is to mock the original work, and omitting a part – perhaps the most important part – would diminish the effect of the parody.

No one wants to see violence against people – particularly children – but a lot of the fuss, I think, was because of the use of violence against those who simply did not agree with 10:10 or wish to participate in the 10:10 scheme. Exploding people were just an expression of the mindset and the children were just first to be seen blown up; they also blew up adults (also parodied on my YouTube channel; touting for larger view figures on the others here). It’s the mindset of 10:10 that is being parodied here.

It’s interesting to note that the YouTube inform me the video ‘They Thought it was Funny?’ ‘may include content that is owned or administered’ by FOX News Network. For those who don’t want to watch any more children blown up I simply added a laugh track to the original 10:10 video.

I celebrated 10/10/10 by running 11km instead of my usual 10km on a Sunday morning, thereby putting 10% more CO2 into the atmosphere. When I raised that issue at a running site the response was that CO2 emitted by humans and animals “doesn’t count” because its origin is not from a fossil fuel. Well I’m confused. Has this been debated anywhere?

Anyway, good luck to all readers of JoNova who are running in the Melbourne Marathon as I write.

And g’day to the 60,020,000 residents of the UK who are showing indifference rather than apathy to the 10:10 concept.

Good on yer’ Ian @ #35. The not being of fossil fuel origin bit, just shows the whole AGW thing up as being a religion of convenience – with initiatives such as this, for all their well meaning, being little more than a fashion statement.

I’ll be celebrating by driving 350 km to see an Airshow, which is about 10 X 10 X 10 more CO2 than I’d normally emit on a Sunday, but I did cut the hedge with hand shears yesterday .
