Sorry if I'm a bit late to this article, you might have already gone through it. But it is pretty convenient - IPCC chief modeler says we have to wait 20 years before we might see the atmosphere warm again. Plenty enough time for the cultural revolutionaries to do their worst I suppose.

Re : 14

Makes perfect sense to me, but what I need to know is can you cook?

~ I'm just kidding

You'll be happy to know Van Jones, President O's green climate czar, slinked out of town in dead of night over the weekend.

Is 'slinked' a word? How about 'slunked'?
Slanked?

oh whatever. He's out.

Tel:
I think the "Land clearing" link to the reef is that here in Oz we have pretty serious erosion problems, and when land is cleared and our dammned thin top soil washes away, it often ends up "fertilizing" the reef, which doesn't help the reef.

I'm more concerned about how quickly the rest of the news media latched on to this obvious fabrication. It seems that vetting science has gone the way of vetting czars. The dumbing down of the world is proceeding as planned!

At least it looks like Van Jones is on the way out. This guy makes Jeremiah Jones seem moderate. Even Willy Brown considered this guy a lunatic and watched in amazement how he wrapped the greenie movement around his Communist agenda. It's beyond belief that a guy like this would end up as a key adviser for implementing cap and tax. Isn't the intent of requiring cabinet positions to be approved by Congress there to prevent people like this from obtaining power?

The article appearing in Science contradicted a previous study that showed the Arctic has been cooling for the last 1500 years.

I thought the hysteria had cooled; it seems to be getting worse by the day

The most recent claim of the disinformation campaign is that 1998-2008 has been the warmest period in the Arctic for the last 2000 years. The claim is that the little ice age was the start of global cooling that the industrial revolution has reversed. This was reported in the Sept 4 issue of Science magazine and has already been repeated in almost every newspaper in the world over the last few days. It's based on the usual assemblage of indirect and inaccurate measurements and of course neglects the Medieval warm period.

It seems that even if this was the case, it's a whole lot more beneficial than harmful. After all, a kilometer wall of ice bearing down on Manhattan (as occurred during previous ice ages) would be a lot more inconvenient than a little bit of warming.

I've been seeing a bunch of articles about the Great Barrier Reef lately and what I've noticed is that newspaper reporters feel no concern about tapping out articles containing strange logical discontinuities and leaps of faith.

I am told that the main threats to the reef are:

* Climate change
* Ocean acidification
* Fertilizer runoff from inland farms
* Illegal fishing
* Introduced species

In response to this, we are introducing tough new laws to stop... ummm... land clearing. Why land clearing? I'm sure those illegal fishermen are shivering in their rubber boots merely thinking about this new crackdown on land clearing.

No doubt the introduced species are taking one look at all that uncleared land and packing up and going home. They were hoping for a nice condo on the coast and now clearly they aren't going to get one.

I can imagine that under some circumstances, there may be justification to prevent land clearing. However, none of the supposed treats to the reef represent these circumstances. Apparently we have reached the stage where any arbitrary natural disaster can be used to justify any arbitrary regulation in response. Welcome to stupidland.
